/tg/ - Traditional Games

You are the princess Calista of Dammerund, the Crown Princess to the throne of that island kingdom. You are betrothed to Arleth, the child of the Countess of Ricton. He is a rather handsome boy, and you think altogether appropriate for a lady such as yourself, and though he is more slender and sickly than some of your other would-be suitors, you fully expect him to grow into an admirable man.

Your hobbies include the science of history, household administration, and urban exploration. You have frequently found your way out of the palace proper, disguising yourself as a commoner and learning about their way of life. For how harsh a life it is, it is rather interesting: the haggling in the marketplaces, the hustle and bustle of busy streets, the artisans and the guards and all the rest. An intriguing place.

It is this particular hobby of yours that (partially) resulted in your current plight. You wished to see how the peasants lived, so you snuck away from the castle proper. The end result of that misadventure is that you were kidnapped by a dragon, and are currently in a rather tall, abandoned tower, presumably built by some ancestor or other of the royal family.

The dragon's ferocious claws are the size of your head, its reptilian skull the size of your torso, its body larger and longer than any warhorse's. A hiss of smoke leaves its mouth as it snores, and its forked tongue slips out for a moment, licking a nostril. Its leathery wings seem almost to breathe with it as it rests on the floor nearby you, blocking most of the door with its massive, serpentine body.

It has instructed you, quite pointedly, to simply wait for your ransom to be paid.

>Sneak around it, you can just tiptoe through the door.
>See if there's any way out through the window.
>Wait patiently, as it ordered.

Seek to engage the dragon in conversation. Surely the wait must be as boring for it as it is for you? And if peasants are somewhat intriguing, dragons must surely be vastly more so.

Perhaps this may not lead to escape, but it can hardly hurt.

Diebreaker:
1 - sneak out the window
2 - talk to the dragon
>>
You quietly tiptoe over to the window, the truffles of the peasant dress you selected catching on a root for a moment. There's an audible tear, and you cast a worried look at the dragon. Its eyes, fortunately, remain shut, and it does not appear to stir. You breathe, quietly, and its claw comes up... to scratch at its own scalp, before returning to its previous position.

Your fingers gingerly find their places on the windowsill, and you lean forward, glancing out and over it, looking for anything to grab on the outside of the building, any purchase. It seems unbearably smooth, however, the stone and mortar oddly well-maintained. Is this a more recently abandoned tower, perhaps? You glance downward, considering simply leaping out, but one look reassures you of how poorly thought out an idea that is. It is perhaps thirty strides down to the ground, and that is rather more strides that you would care to fall.

You catch sight of a figure in the distance, and your eyes squint at it. A man on horseback, the glint of his armor visible from this distance. You can't make out his livery, other than the red. The Countess of Ricton's colors are red and orange... could she perhaps have sent some messenger, to pay the ransom for her son's fiancée?

You're interrupted from such thoughts by the cold feel of dragon claw on your shoulder. You freeze, instantly, your breath catching in your throat.

"Princess, princess," comes the dragon's slithering voice, "surely you aren't considering leaping from this height?" There's a hiss, more like a steaming pot than a snake. "I'd hope you realize I could catch you quickly, were you to flee on foot." The single flap of its leathery wings is almost a roar of noise in your ears.

It hasn't seen the armored man, at least.

>[Lie] No, I was just looking. There's hardly anything else to do, after all.
>Well... yes, but I decided against it.
>Look! Some man! Surely he's here to pay my ransom. Leave me be.

You force a laugh, the sort you use when some lord tells a rather unpleasant joke and you aren't allowed to simply say as much. "No, of course not, oh noble dragon," you say, your words syrupy. "I was simply looking. There's hardly anything else to do, after all." With a feigned grace and calm, you gesture across the empty room.

"Hmm..." hums the dragon, the throaty noise rough and vaguely threatening. After staring at your face for an agonizingly long few seconds, it seems to accept your words. "Perhaps. Still, little Calista," it says, one claw hooking into your dress and guiding you along, back to the makeshift bed, "I would prefer it if my prey did not fly to its death."

"Oh, of course, sir dragon," you say, with a little bow.

"My name is Kamdon. Not dragon."

"Yes, sir Kamdon."

It snorts, and the heated air of its breath makes you flinch at the unexpected warmth. "I am no knight, girl," it says. Again, its tongue lashes out across the air, before slipping back within its mouth. "Simply Kamdon will do." Now that you are quite far from the window, you can only hope the rider does not do anything stupid, and perhaps this will all be over soon.

"Monster!" Comes a cry from down below, and you pause, closing your eyes. Kamdon snaps to the window, poking its massive head out of it, its relatively thin and long neck stretching out. At this angle, if you had a sword, you could surely hack it clean off. Alas. "I have come to save my lady love!"

"Arleth?" You whisper, fear overtaking you. Arleth can hardly be expected to defeat a dragon, given his physical condition. Before any more can be said, Kamdon's back legs are perched on the windowsill, digging into the stone, and it leaps forward, a gravelly mix tossed off in its wake.

>Try to find a place to hide. If Kamdon kills Arleth, you'll need to be well out of its sight.

You rush to the window, the claw marks in the brick and mortar giving you brief pause. You shout out, loud as you can, as Kamdon swoops through the air towards Arleth, who sits astride his horse, a fine lance in one hand, a large shield in the other, the insignia of Ricton a banner on his horse's side. "Don't do this, Arleth! He'll kill you!"

You can hardly see any reaction from Arleth, given the distance, but you think his head turns to one side, glancing up at you. Kamdon's wings beat large in the air, obscuring your view, as the dragon circles Arleth, making a mockery of his equipment. A few seconds later, you hear the dragon make a strangled noise of pain, and it swoops down at Arleth, battering him off his warhorse, which sets to running. You see a block of wood or somesuch hit the ground - a crossbow, perhaps?

Kamdon's maw seems set on Arleth's head, and he valiantly struggles against his attacker, trying to reach for his sword, you think. A moment later, he's pinned, the dragon's mighty front claws holding either arm to the side. With a tear, the dragon yanks away from the body, and you see the silvery glint of Arleth's helmet in its jaws. Arleth's pale head is still attached to his body, his lovely blonde hair visible even at this distance.

The creature and Arleth sound as though they're conversing... you spot Arleth's horse a few strides away from the tower itself.

_____NERD_____
>>
You shout down at Kamdon, loud as you can, praying to the gods that it hears you and listens. "Please, Kamdon! Spare his life! He's my fiancé! If you spare him, you can ask for a larger ransom!" Your heart catches in your chest as you stare down at the scene, your eyes straining to make out any detail even as your vision starts to blur with the tears forming in the lower corners of your eyes.

Finally, you hear a sound of metal deforming, and you're stock still and motionless as the dragon flies back up, Arleth held between his massive lower claws like an eagle's fresh prey. You skitter to one side, and he simply tosses Arleth in through the window, with little concern for your beloved's safety or comfort. Arleth, for his part, clatters in his armor for a second or so before coming to a stop. He groans, at least, meaning he's alive, and you rush to his side.

Pale, smooth skin, the sort a lady might envy more than admire, and lovely blonde hair, trimmed but still something you could run your fingers through for hours (and, in the past, you have). He's almost caked in a thin sheen of sweat, and there are lines of dark red, here and there, where skin was scraped away in the process of losing his helmet. Nothing fatal or too threatening, but it does mar an otherwise beautiful face. He coughs, and it becomes another coughing fit.

"Idiot," Kamdon says, its voice irritable, still perched on the window sill, its wings largely occluding the light from outside. "I don't understand why knights think they can best dragons." Its long, neck twists towards its chest, and you notice a shaft of wood sticking out of it just as its teeth set in round it. Kamdon rips the arrow out, and there's not but a light dribble of blood as it does so.

That's a pretty dumb plan. What if he just doesn't tell anyone he killed us, and when they come with the ransom he just takes it?

Nah man. Way smarter plan right here:
Have sex with Arleth

It's ingenious. We know dragons are grossed out by humans, so two humans fucking will disgust him enough to drive him out of the room. Then, when he's no longer watching us we can escape.
>>
Trick the dragon into becoming a sodomite... you can into genius?
>>
You ignore the dragon's words. Its brutish demeanor is hardly worthy of commenting upon, after all. Instead, you carefully examine Arleth, your fingers drifting along his throat briefly, feeling at his neck to ensure his pulse is steady. It's elevated - hardly a surprise, given he was just fighting a dragon - but there's nothing to worrisome beyond that. He's breathing steadily, and you can see no signs of any substantial wounds.

Your fingers work at the nuts holding his plate armor in place, intent on pulling it off to ensure there's no blood pooling with it, but after you do so, you see that the dragon's deformed it enough that it is impossible to remove it. Instead, you manage to part it a half-inch or so, and no blood leaks out. You roll your fiancé on his back, then slip your hand in under his breastplate, feeling around for any signs of damage.

Arleth gives a stifled giggle as your fingers run along his belly, and you give him a look, your eyes narrowing. He gives you a sheepish smile, his coughs apparently having subsided, though his breath is still steady. "I'm well, Calista," he says, and the metal of his gauntlet is surprising warm as it caresses your cheek. You suppose it must be from the dragon. "Don't worry."

The dragon snorts, a loud and deep thing, and the room heats up perceptibly, the warmth of its breath affecting all the air within it. "What a dull little play," it says. Its wings swing out, and there's an audible shift in wind in the process, the darkness of the room growing greater, the only visible thing being its bright, round eyes. "This is so bothersome." It coughs a brief flicker of fire out, and then speaks again. "If you do not return with your 'lady love,'" it says, the words dripping with derision, "what will your families do?" Its eyes flick back and over the two of you.

>(1/2)
>>
"I... I don't know," Arleth stammers out.

"Bothersome." The dragon shakes its head, and then pushes off the windowsill again, this time in reverse, swooping away. The light floods in, making you blink. As the dragon leaves, a large gout of flame spears out of its open mouth towards Arleth's warhorse and immolates it, killing it in a few miserable seconds.

Arleth speaks, his voice a whisper, clearly to you. "Nothing," he says. "They think this is an opportunity to be rid of us both," he adds.

"What?" You ask. You look Arleth up and down, worried. You knew that, perhaps, Arleth's family might wish to be rid of their sickly firstborn, but he was affianced to the future Queen... surely not.

Arleth explains the politics surrounding it, and your shoulders slump. Your younger brother has apparently taken your father's fancy without your notice, and the King apparently would like to be rid of you, quietly. Arleth was told to go rescue you, "as a proper man would for his beloved," and though he knew it a fool's errand, he went out regardless, duty and love overpowering such a meager concern as death.

>Try to escape while the dragon is busy with whatever it's doing.

You let us take the throne, and you then own the palace coffers. We still own everything else, and we will still need to spend that coin every here and there. This plan relies on the treasury room being isolated and having really thin walls. To my knowledge, they were either put in or near the center of the castle, or had thick walls.

>>
Your hand runs through your hair, and you sit down on the makeshift bed, trying and failing to think of a way out of this. There's little chance it would leave you here if you had much hope of escaping in the time allotted to you. And, indeed, in the span of a bowel movement, the dragon swoops back onto the windowsill, its wings snapping up to its spine as it crawls through the hole.

Its tongue licks out, this time flickering over its eye, and it glances over the two of you, apparently detecting your distress. "What is the problem?" Its voice is a tad irritated, and steam seems to leak out of its mouth, a long hiss that makes the whole room heat up. When neither of you speak up, the dragon growls. "I don't like it when I'm deceived," it says.

You're the one to answer, your legs pressed up against your chest, your chin on your knees. "There's no ransom coming. My family thinks that they'd be better off with one fewer child, and the Countess of Ricton resolved much the same as regards Arleth." Arleth looks at you, astonished, annoyed, that you would say that. You keep going, barreling forward in the hopes that it will help. It can hardly hurt, after all. "I will help you get my brother," you offer, pleading. "He's the heir if I die, so they're much more likely to pay."

Kamdon looks at you and Arleth suspiciously, its tail flailing to one side, making a sound like a whip cracking as it snaps. "If you seek to play me, girl..."

"No, no, Kamdon, I assure you," you say, hurriedly, as much as you can. "It is the truth."

Kamdon stares at Arleth, moving so close to him that even *you* can feel his breath, on your calves and thighs, while the fresh sweat on Arleth's face shows it's worse for him. "Are you," it says, a claw coming down on Arleth's chest, "truly the heir of Ricton?" Arleth nods, rapidly. "If you are not, I will let you go free," it tempts, the claw slowly gliding up his chest, running along his throat gingerly, not piercing the skin.

Big. Meaty. Claws.
>>
"I-" Arleth swallows, "I am." He sounds almost proud, defiant as he says it.

"Fetch the boy, then," it says, turning to you, heat rolling over you alongside its breath. "If you do not return within three days time with your younger brother in tow, then this one," it taps your affianced's neck, making both of you flinch, "dies. Yes?" You nod quickly, and it jerks its head at the door.

You don't require any more than that, and you scramble down the stairs. The situation is at least, minutely, improved now. Not terribly, though, given that you must become either a traitor to kin or let your beloved fiancé die.

How to go about fetching your younger brother? He's thirteen, still smaller than you, gawky and with an awkward look to his whole body. You'll have to bring him to Kamdon, or at least, get him out of the castle and have someone give word to Kamdon...

Surely, our mingling among the peasantry has given us some idea of where the shadier of them congregate. We're the heiress, we have money; all that has to be done is to arrange a kidnapping and send a courier to the dragon. We'll pay the dragon's ransom but have our brother 'tragically' die before he can be saved.

Bam. We get our fiance and no more threats to our position. Bonus, we can justify sending a hunting party to slay the dragon and steal his horde way down the road when we're queen.

As you rush home, your mind runs through potential lies, strategies, means of getting your brother out, of rescuing Arleth, of all the rest. Finally, you set on one lie, and make your mental preparations. Arleth is dead, while you barely escaped with your life. You will have to cry to sell it, and you will have to cry an awful lot.

It turns out not to be that difficult, really. All you have to do is imagine that Arleth really *did* die, and the tears flow freely, dribbling down your face, joining with snot, as you mournfully explain how he valiantly fought off the dragon so that you could escape, managing to get away while the dragon was distracted by him. You describe the terrible squeals as metal crunched beneath the dragon's claws, the way it licked at his limp, lifeless body, and weep inconsolably at every turn in your story. You don't say anything that says he's for-sure dead (since, after all, he is alive and you'll hopefully be seeing him soon), but you certainly give the impression he is.

No one doubts you for a second.

It's hard to get your brother to come along for a riding trip, though. Harder than you would have thought. You find your potential co-conspirator, though, a girl working in the stables that your little brother Tanat clearly fancies. It's just a matter of finding the right motivator to convince her to help you...

All that really has to happen is that we make her want him dead, too.

Maybe find some other girl he's been slipping it to and make her jealous or some shit.
>>
>>40581939
Give her the chance to improve her station and rise from stable girl to our personal companion/retinue/hand-maiden/what-have-you. She'll certainly accept, and we don't have to reveal our plan to her, in case things go wrong. Then go for a ride with her and invite brother along to join us. He'll clearly come along for the chance to seduce her. Let dragon have them both.

Everything is tied up nicely.

You approach the girl - Ilona - one evening, getting her talking about horses, smiling and listening to her as she babbles on senselessly, probing her when she gets quiet or uncertain that you really want to listen to some stable girl chatter about horses. After nearly an hour of such nonsense, you smile and speak up. "Ilona," you say, interrupting her discussion of different breeds, and she is instantly silent. "You're such a lovely young girl, and I'm in such a bad place right now. Talking to you has really made me feel better. I'd like to ask you - would you be willing to be my personal handmaiden?"

She stutters, her eyes wide, as she responds. "Y-you, you really mean that?" You nod, a simple smile on your face. "Th-then I'd, I'd be honored, m-m'lady," she says, bowing her head. You smile even more broadly, at that.

"I was planning on taking a ride tomorrow, to clear my head." And because tomorrow is the third day and you can't delay any longer. "Would you like to come with me?" Again, she nods, giving you effusive thanks for your generosity. You let slip to Tanat that you're going on a ride with Ilona, and he almost stumbles over himself trying to convince you to let him come along. You play at being uncertain, but finally you "relent," allowing him along.

Kamdon does his part quite admirably, swooping down on your little trio and tearing Tanat from his horse's back, giving you only a brief glance before flying back towards his tower.

You scream. You give a scream that could curdle milk, a scream that is louder and more piercing than any you've ever given before, so much so that it hurts you a little to listen to, and you turn your horse around, rushing back towards the castle with the fierceness and fear that makes Ilona follow shortly after you, casting only the briefest glance over her shoulder.

She doesn't suspect a thing, and she backs up your story to the letter. The new ransom is something like three times the one posted for you, but this one gets paid. You wish you could say that you were surprised, but based on what Arleth told you, you're really not. Arleth and Tanat are allowed free, Kamdon flying away with his new bounty, leaving to parts unknown, a richer dragon than he once was.

Your marriage to Arleth is scheduled for only a month from now, and you couldn't be more excited about it. Occasionally you think you catch a sort of irritation from your father, regarding your escape from Kamdon's clutches, but he doesn't seem to be taking any action on that note.

>FIVE YEARS LATER

The Queen of Dammerund is not an easy crown to wear, certainly not at your age and your current state of development. You're pregnant with your fourth child, who is due within the coming month. You smile at that thought, rubbing your pregnant belly, your thoughts drifting to your handsome, courageous, wonderful husband, Arleth. You had to shield him from the truth about your father's death, of course. It was no mere accident that saw him fall down one of the castle's greatest towers, but a carefully planned act of sabotage that cost him his footing at the most crucial moment.

Some might call you a kinslayer. Some might say that you'll be sent to the Eight Hells for killing your own father. But it is no less than he deserved, and it's not a sin if they try you first. The gods will be your judges; no mortal man will ever know your secret, you've made certain of that.

Your youngest, a bright little girl with her father's eyes and cheekbones, happily buzzes up to you, making you grab her and lift her up, despite your pregnant belly. She giggles as you tickle her, and you catch sight of her father, dressed in the elegant honor uniform of the Dammerund army, as befits a Knight of his station. He smiles when your eyes meet, and he comes close, pushing little Yana away, giving her orders to "go bother Ilona," before kissing you, deeply and fully on the lips, his hands gliding across your body in an enticing way. He pulls your hands up into his, smiling at you, his eyes never leaving yours. "I love you, Calista."

"I love you too, Arleth," you whisper back, a smile still on your lips. The sickness that plagued him in his younger years has left him, and his arms are strong and powerful, easily enough to lift you off the ground and lay you out on your bed.

You have never found anything that is so pleasurable as making love to the man you love. It is sweeter, even, than revenge, and you can have it every day.
