Once you finally pull yourself from the clinging mess that left in your delving tub, you open your eyes from the darkness.

There’s no one here to greet you, as usual. The other tubs have all been put away, leaving yours to stand alone with only the early light of dawn to watch over it.

The safety and ease of which you delve into the other realms has long been taken for granted by you and your apprentices. Your gained experience and knowledge of delving has surely helped in your continued endeavors, but strangely enough it feels as if the other realms have become more receptive to your traffic.

Odd thing to wonder about alone in this room of singular purpose. The sharp metallic aroma and dull haze of oppressive smoke more than reminds you of that purpose.

You’re more than used to it, but you decide to take your ruminations elsewhere.

A bath, first and foremost after delving, is eagerly received.

The warm water peeling off all the dried blood from your skin, rebirthing you for this world, separating that life walking among bizarre monstrosities, and this peaceful life of study and leisure.

Haha, imagining what could have been of your life seems to have given you new perspective on what your life currently is. The two close, yet so far, so far.

Ugh, this introspection serves little purpose other than robbing you of precious time to sleep.

You hastily pull yourself from the tub, and return to your room.

The journal is the next to last stop before bed, and allows you to return your wandering mind to more pressing matters. Your writing as of late has left you with a singular impression.

The stakes seem to be getting higher.

No longer are you dealing with simple other-realm merchants, but now you’re practically bumping elbows with almost all the leaders of the inner realms.

That reminds you, you should have a chat with one that lives nearby. Tomorrow.

For now, the final thing before sleep.

The warmth of dark cloak only makes your bed beckon all the more.

“Control is yours.”

Whose voice tells you this, you can only wonder. No indication of gender, no information at all of who or what the speaker may be, only the words are conveyed to you.

These words are not without purpose. They’ve guided you to heights of power you’ve reached thus far, and with any luck will continue to do so.

Knowledge itself is power, so time gain new knowledge. But in what area?

That shameful attempt at teleportation surges to the front of your mind. If you could just figure out what you’re doing wrong, then it will be just another skill to conquer like the rest.

Immediately visions of your repeated failures crystallize. Each failure leading to frustration, each added frustration taking you further away from your goal. The forcefulness of your being makes it almost impossible for you to imagine yourself another perspective. Sure you can step into another’s shoes when it serves you to do so, but you will never anything less than what you can be.

This is something that cannot be forced, the sheer fact that you managed to teleport at all is miraculous, so the cloak implants the thoughts necessary for you to improve your teleportation. Almost as if reading from a manual, but it will improve your landing, and allow you teleport about a several yards in whichever way you can see.

Much more useful than it was before, but it’s a bitter pill to swallow knowing that you will never become better naturally so long as you are who you are.

Your bed is well received in order to escape such unpleasant thoughts, even with the bothersome lump that inconsiderately takes up the exact center…

The mercy of a dreamless sleep carries you into the morning.

“I’m going alone this time.” You inform Izu about your plan to visit Matthias and Aya.

He politely swallows his food before speaking. “Aww man…” His demoralized face heavy with thought. “It’s important then?”

Izu asks while probably already knowing the answer. It seems like he knows your thoughts far more than you’ll ever know his.

“This time, yes.” You respond honestly.

He pokes at his food. “Okay. I’ll practice my pyromancy until you come back.”

How in the world he’ll manage to do that, you can only wonder.

Marissa saunters into the room and immediately sets her eyes upon the young boy. “What’s wrong?” She sits next to him and wraps him with one of her arms.

“You smell weird.” The boy tries to wrest himself free from her grasp. He suddenly stops. “…Are you flying?”

You immediately stand up to see the chair under Marissa hovering a few inches off the ground. It falls heavily back to the ground as soon as she realizes.

“Wow, Izu! Hugging you makes me stronger.” She wraps more of her body around the poor boy.

He can almost no longer be seen.

You catch her eyes and she eases off the boy. “We’ll speak of this when I get back.” You inform her seriously.

She nods casually, and returns her attention to Izu.

“No wait!” The boy calls after you. “I changed my mind, take me with!”

Sky blue fence this time…

You stroll up to the door and give the standard frenzied banging to let Matthias know it’s you.

The fact that you can hear him groan from outside, brings a small grin to your face.

He opens the door and stares at you for a moment.

You’re the first to speak from this stare down. “What?”

“I’m just wondering whether or not I should let you in.” He cautiously responds.

You push past him and make your way inside. “I have something to discuss with…”

Well, now that you think about it, Aya would have very good reason for not wanting Matthias to know that she's royalty, and it certainly seems that she has no intention of letting him know. Or maybe she can't? Then again, Matthias not knowing might come back to bite one or both of them in the future.

“I have something to discuss with Aya.” You firmly state.

Matthias is immediately taken aback, you’ve never had more than a casual chat with her before, albeit the talking was a bit one-sided. So it’s very strange indeed for you to come all this way just for her.

You sigh and continue. “What we talked about last has left me with some concerns. I have some…questions to ask Aya, between women.”

Lying usually comes easy to you, but when it comes to telling a lie directly to Matthias’s dumb face, it leaves an unpleasant feeling in your chest.

He catches onto your meaning and nods. “I see. I’ll just walk in with you so she’s not startled.”

You laugh lightly. “It’s nothing so serious. She just might not feel like sharing some things in front of you.”

Only half a lie that time.

He chuckles nervously. “You’re probably right.” He immediately leads you toward the kitchen.

The fact that he trusts you implicitly makes the knot in your chest feel tighter.

Past the lavender painted living room, and right to where Aya is trying to make sense of a rather large recipe book.

Upon you entering, she immediately looks up and seeing that it’s you, gives you an amiable smile and wave.

What a quaint and charming life she’s living her with Matthias. How could she so easily leave everything else behind, to go to living as a princess of an entire realm to spending her days a little more than a human housewife?

“I-uh, I have to use the restroom. Excuse me.” He stumbles over himself as he hurries out of the room.

Smooth…

Aya eagerly shows you a flaky cake recipe to pass the time.

Well, this is slightly harder than you had anticipated. Where to even begin?

“Princess…” You state simply.

[1/2]
>>
>>40138200

You were never one for beating around the bush...

Her eyes widen in fear, the recipe book drops back to the table with a heavy thud.

There it is, confirmation.

You lean forward and speak with a hushed voice. “I haven’t told Matthias anything, but you’re going to answer some questions first.”

First and foremost.

“Is there something holding you back from speaking?” You quietly ask.

She nods immediately, then makes a hand gesture for writing, and then shakes her head firmly.

A seal on most of her communication, probably in an attempt to get her to return home. She even had to put up with Matthias scolding her for not learning how to write…

You point to her throat. “Do you think your father did that to you?”

Again, she nods without any hesitation.

Now you know who created it, but do you have enough information to break the seal? You’ve never considered what happens if you failed to overcome a seal. Should you risk it for this? If not, then you’re likely not going to get the full story from her.

Definitely at least the potential to speak and write.
Probably not sign language, as she pantomimed writing to us just now.
Probably not powers, as that would endanger her life and she's demonstrated impressive stuff for us, plus she'd need them to get home.
Aside from those I can't think of anything else they'd want to seal.
>>

Her ability to express herself.

That's why she spammed fireballs anywhere: her ability to defend herself and fight was used as a loophole to communicate.

The ability to defend and fight. Because you need to practice those abilities. Is there a reason you're trying to make me out to be wrong, or do you honestly not understand how this was abused for loopholes?
>>
>>40138811
> Is there a reason you're trying to make me out to be wrong
Because I think you're wrong? It's obvious she can express herself, so your theory of her ability to express herself being sealed is incorrect.
>>
>>40138869
When asked a question, she mainly answers in yes and nos, implying that she has difficulty volunteering information. She can hide behind others because that counts as "defending herself from possible dangers". She can teach because that counts under "raising her and her allies' ability to defend herself".

Okay, maybe "expressing" is the wrong word to use, but more "conveying meaning". Happy?
>>
>>40139149
Not really, she just conveyed information about her seal earlier this thread with that pantomime of writing. Under your theory this doesn't count as any benefit to her, as it only gives us an advantage in breaking her seal, and therefore should not be possible.
>>
>>40138516

Since it was her father who placed the seal on her in the first place, it was likely done to get her to return home as quickly as possible.

Meaning that, the seal is keep her from being free of her father.

But, something’s not quite adding up.

Her uncle described her as rebellious girl who often did whatever she wanted. This timid creature in front of you doesn’t seem to be quite the same. But she wasn’t timid at all times, she could express herself through her flames, her pyromancy was an unintended loophole.

She certainly became angry in your little demonstration, so there’s something more being sealed here...

What better way to stop a rebellious daughter than to seal her courage away?

That would also explain the unfortunate accidents she has with her sometimes uncontrolled flames.

You’d pat yourself on the back if you weren’t preoccupied at the moment.

You smile calmly. “I’m confident that I can break that seal off of you, Aya. I don’t honestly know the consequences of what would happen if I fail, but I don’t think I will. Do you want me to try?”

She firmly grabs hold of one of your hands, and then firmly nods her consent, almost begging you to proceed.

There’s a clear vision in your mind of everything that’s being sealed away from this poor girl, and clear reason why.

It thinks it can torment your friends, and even worse, it thinks it can keep you from getting what you want, but that’s where it’s wrong. Now it ends…

>>40139307

Well, it isn’t as obvious as unsealing a door, so you nod for Aya to try to speak.

She opens her mouth awkwardly. “Aa, auuh.” She surprises herself with her sounds, and continues to struggle like this for a few minutes before finally gaining the confidence to speak a single word. “Matthias.” She whispers to herself in a quiet and pleasant voice.

The two of you jump from your seats in joy, for different reason, of course.

Aya wraps you in a tight hug. “Thank you, Sophia.”

You allow her to bask in her happiness for a few more moments before speaking up. “There’s still more questions I want to ask you.”

She nervously looks around for Matthias first, and then turns to you with a composed smile. “Of course. It’s the least I could do.”

The both of you sit back down.

You start with the most glaring question in your own mind. “Why are you here? An inner-realm princess far from home, and living with a human of all things.”

She thinks for a moment and gives a poised answer. “I’m here because I want to be. My father dictated my life to even what I was allowed to wear.” She turns her glance toward the window. “But other than if I acted properly for our positions, he cared little for me.”

Awfully high and mighty for someone that wasn’t meant to be king in the first place.

She turns back to you with a mischievous smile. “So I ran away whenever I could, as long as I could…This last time is when I met him.” She revels in nostalgia for a moment before continuing. “A handsome man wandering alone, scared.”

Heh, it was one of his first delves, so you can just imagine Matthias’s fear.

“I approached him. He must have thought me cute, because he put on this suave attitude and asked me my name. I tried to answer, but I suddenly couldn’t speak anymore, and I was more afraid than I had ever had been in my entire life.” Her eyes begin to redden. “I tried to scream, but I couldn’t. I panicked more, even began hurting myself…But that’s when he held me. Grabbed me so tight I could hear his heartbeat.”

You can see her fighting back a smile, even with tears in her eyes. “I think I get it. But why didn’t you try to get help earlier?”

[1/2]
>>
>>40140687

“Honestly? I was scared. Scared of meeting new people, scared of telling anyone where I was from, and most of all scared of losing this beautiful thing I had gained.” She shakes her head. “But, as time went on, I became a little less scared. So that when you came up to me today, I knew it was time.”

“You knew it was time. Does that mean you intend to tell Matthias about all of this?” You ask.

This questions quiets her for a long time. She seems to be considering the consequences of what would happen if she told the truth.

“I don’t know. I want to, but…it would just bring him more trouble.” She looks down bitterly.

You sigh heavily. “That’s between the two of you, I suppose. But I don’t enjoy deceiving him at all, keep that in mind.”

“I will. It’s just, oh I just don’t know how I can ever repay you.” She tries to regain her composure.

“Well, what’s customary for this sort of thing?” You ask, curiously.

“I’m not sure. I always got whatever I wanted by just asking…” She stops suddenly.

Footsteps.

Matthias walks into the room hesitantly a few moments later. “I hope I wasn’t interrupting anything, I must have caught something…”

“Matthias…” Aya stands in such a hurry that her chair tips to the ground.

He doesn’t say anything for quite some time, only staring at Aya, as if trying to ascertain if what he just heard was just his imagination. “Aya? That wasn’t you, righ-“

Aya runs across the room and wraps herself around his waist. “I-I-I…” Her sobs barely let her speak, she wails into his stomach.

Matthias is absolutely flabbergasted. “How?” He starts to choke up.

Well, aren’t you the third-wheel right now?

This is their moment. You make for the front door as subtly as you can, not before you catch a single sentence from Aya.

“I love you.”

~

You watch as Izu shows you a new trick he invented with his pyromancy.

The boy proceeds to pull out one of your blood tablets, and then place it into a cup of water.

“Wait, wait!” He says, knowing already that you were going to protest to such a waste.

The fluid in the cup immediately becomes dark red and viscous. Izu then proceeds to channel wispy flames into the cup, and finally after a few minutes, the contents of the cup have lightened to a dark yellow.

His flames are certainly the most bizarre use of pyromancy you’ve ever seen. Are they even flames to begin with?

You sigh. “I suppose you should be praised for advancing your abilities, but I can’t approve of you wasting the blood tablets we use for delving.”

“But I already replaced them, I try to keep up with what the three of you use, but it’s hard.” The boy looks away from you.

“Wait. You’re the one who’s been keeping up the stocks?” You lean in close to him. “Have Ellie and Marissa been helping you at all?”

He shakes his head.

Those two dirty shirks, lumping all the work on the boy, and then proceeding to fawn over him like nothing.

You pat Izu’s shoulder to reassure him. “Ask next time before you use my stuff. Now run along for a bit, I have to have a discussion with my other two apprentices.”

His brilliant green eyes beam up at you. “Will do!” He dumps the contents of the cup outside, and then runs off upstairs, and you can hear him enter your room.

He’s going to touch your stuff again…

You hear someone walk behind you and turn to see who it is. “Ellie.” You utter, coldly.

She jumps slightly from the sheer emotion in your voice. “…Yes?”

You continue. “Go get Marissa, we’re going to have a debriefing and a discussion on chores…”

~

>>
>>40141991

You settle in your chair and stare at your two apprentices across from you. One nervously looks away from you, the other has to repeatedly keep her side of the couch from floating off the ground.

You point toward Ellie. “You’re first.”

She starts barely a fraction of a second after you finish speaking. “Delved to the badlands, absolutely nothing to find there, didn’t even think about looking for any flesh tunnels.”

You cock an eyebrow and then turn. “Marissa.”

The couch falls to the ground once again. “Went to the marshes and sought out the slug we met long ago.” She shakes her head. “He wasn’t there anymore.”

Uneventful as usual.

You pull a strand of hair out of your face. “While on the matter of delving, I’m sure you two have been feeding the leech as per usual, right?”

Ellie visibly shrinks, but Marissa is first to speak up. “She and I made an agreement. She's permitted to borrow any clothes from my collection so long as she covers my feedings.”

You turn your attention back to Ellie. “Is this true?”

“I thought I could handle it, but then I started getting woozy all the time, and then the weird dreams came again. There was no freaking way I could keep up, so I took a break.” She hurries to continue. “But, but, I promise to catch up what I owe.”

You sigh heavily.

What a mess, and you haven’t even addressed why Marissa keeps taking off from the ground.

But first Ellie. She was let off with a slap on the wrist last time, so you’re not about to go so easy this time around.

“You’re not delving until you feed what you owe. Consider yourself lucky that I don’t set you to go collect dead rats.” You state firmly.

She wants to protest, but the knowledge that she could have it worse keeps her silent.

“They’re planning on burning that place down soon. Too many parents lodge complaints about their kids playing near it.” Marissa falls back to the ground yet again.

You already see about a dozen ways that burning that place down could go wrong. Whatever, onto the more important thing.

You adjust yourself in your seat. “Care to share why you’re floating, Marissa?”

“I wish I knew. It just happened like my tail, but it’s not nearly as cute.” She responds with yet another thud to the ground.

You surmise that her form is manifesting itself even more, and there’s little you can do about that unless you wish to outright seal her power. A solution you’d rather not use unless it’s absolutely necessary, Marissa has her many uses.

“Keep it under wraps as usual.” You continue.” I don’t suppose you have any new information on Sayuline?”

[1/2]
>>
>>40142833

“Actually…” She leans forward. “She’s been spotted at the guild late at night, but only for a few moments at a time. She’s being very careful, which is concerning. She’s even been staying away from her usual boys.” She settles back. “Why she would lurking around this area when Ali is on mission to find her is puzzling…”

“Any theories?” You ask.

“I can only guess is that she still needs something that’s in the area. Either from the guild, or…maybe from us.” Marissa finishes with a frown.

Ugh, why does Sayuline persist on hanging around where she practically has a death sentence? The fact that she does continue, knowing full well of that, is the most concerning. This needs to be dealt with, but finding her is likely beyond the capabilities of your apprentices.

It disturbs you to say it, but you think you might need to team up with Ali to settle this matter once and for all.

You know that you’ll be working together with Ali, but you can already envision the two of you trying to one up each other in this matter. Although, that might prove to your benefit. Whatever Sayuline has planned will soon unravel as you and Ali put your heads together for this first time in so many years...

You and your apprentice are quite the exquisite spectacle to behold as you step out of your home, embrace the cool air of the afternoon, and make your way to the market.

Why is Izu simultaneously so annoying, endearing and funny?

You're very welcome! It could have potentially made things worse, or physically hurt Aya.
>>40143375
Aya spilled pretty much everything. He knows you helped her, so they're even more amiable to you. But in the end Matthias is still Matthias.
Ellie is fairly bummed, but she knows it's on her.
Your house is a heavy state of disrepair, so he's only finished a sizable fraction of his total work.
Izu is child, and everything he does, he does for you.

Has Ellie or Marissa looked at or studied our tomes?
>>
>>40143314
Thanks for running, Auri!
>>
>>40143493
Can we practice sealing on Marissa as both punishment and for her own good if she can't keep the floating down?
>>
>>40143564
You don't tend to relinquish a tome until your done with it, or busy with another one. So at this point all they have available to them is the necromancy tome, and they'd be more excited if the reagents weren't so unpleasant to gather.
>>40143607
You're very welcome!
>>
>>40143652
Why can't we just purchase animal fat(cooking) again?

Surely they can pay for their own stuff.
>>
>>40143652
So all we need to look at now is intra planar travel yes?

Ellie get any more visions?

>>40143705
they think necromancy is icky.
>>
>>40143643
She can keep her floating inactive, but she needs to actively concentrate on it. In time, she'll get better. Any sealing on her power isn't likely to be received well. Also, she doesn't float herself, but she floats the object she rests on.
>>40143705
Since most of our focus is almost completely on sealing, pyromancy and delving, Sophia doesn't tend to think about Necromancy all that much. But you can make suggestions to your apprentices.
>>40143751
Teleporting still needs work, and intra planar travel, yes. Ellie has indeed been getting visions/dreams, in fact she mentioned it this thread.
>>
>>40143799
Thanks for running. How are we doing all told?
>>
>>40143751
>they think necromancy is icky.
you would too, after watching several rats explode and gathering the gore.

>>40143799
purchasing cooking fat, though, is easy. Plenty of people baste. Plus, we haven't checked if butter(milk fat) counts as animal fat.
>>
>>40143819
You're very welcome! Pretty good in some aspects...
>>40143828
It would produce lesser results depending on the purity, but what you're suggesting would work.
>>
>>40143934
>lesser results depending on the purity
err, rendered fat is 'purer' than raw fatty tissue. European people use lard as sandwich spread, right?

no promises on butter, though. That stuff has plenty of fillers.
>>
>>40143934
What aspects are not so good?
>>
>>40144013
I agree, I guess it all comes down to how much you're willing to pay.
>>40144022
Oh come now, you know I can't you that outright.
>>
>>40144084
Hints would be appreciated.
>>
>>40144099
Dude cmon. Don't metagame.
>>
>>40144143
Up to Auri. I just feel an Arboretum or Miasma coming.
>>
>>40144099
Always pay attention to what's being said, and what's not being said. I will not divulge anymore than that, really.
>>
>>40144184
It doesn't matter what you feel coming, what you're doing is faggotry to the highest degree.
>>
>>40144195
Thanks Auri

>>40144224
Auri gave me what I needed chill the fuck out.
>>
>>40144241
You're very welcome!
>>
Are we evil? Not asking you specifically Auri, just wondering what the other players think.
>>
>>40144348
No? I'd say we're Neutral.
>>
>>40144348
Not really evil, I'd say neutral selfish
>>
>>40144457
>>40144481
Interesting, I was wondering that since we found out were not human. Seems like we're a self-driven species, but I'll keep my opinion open until we make really serious choices
>>
I'll be stepping out now. Until next time!
