You and your friends have just finished detailing the events surrounding what you saw, explaining it to the king fully. Occasionally, the king sent his Espeon to fetch more books concerning Yveltal, in order to gain a better understanding of what was occurring. He had also sent for some servants to bring refreshments and more chairs for you and your friends.

“So it seems that Yveltal was awoken when his cocoon was discovered,” the king summarizes, “Which means I think we’ve finally discovered what the Vallough forces were after. They must have sent forces there in order to awaken it.”

“But why would they do that?” Lisa asks, “Yveltal pretty much kills everything near it right?”

“Perhaps they thought they could control it, or maybe defeat it after it decimated our country first,” he muses, “I doubt either would have worked, but whatever their plan was, we still have a problem.”
“Right,” you agree, “We need to stop that thing before it destroys everything.”
“Easier said than done,” the king sighs, his brow furrowing in thought, “Likely, we’ll need another monster to match its strength, though finding one will be difficult. I assume you already asked Jirachi?”

“Yes,” you nod, “Though she didn’t seem to feel capable of stopping it.”

“Well then, we’ll need to look for an alternative,” he says, standing, “Lumi will stay here and help you research. In the meantime, I must go direct my forces to minimize the damage.”

The king departs a few moments later, leaving you and your friends alone in his study.

You decide to get reading, looking up any details you can find on legendary monsters with the strength to stand up to Yveltal.

Most of the stories and tales you come across tell about many pairs or groups of legends, and how they normally exist in balance with one another.

For Yveltal, his counterpart is Xerneas, a being that exudes life-force. It is said to sleep in a white tree, and the books also seem to imply that awakening it would be easy now that Yveltal is free.

The only problem is that you're not sure this would fix your problem. The two are equal in strength, and the oldest story involving the two speaks of a long drawn out war caused by the two clashing in battle. While it might help, it wouldn't be enough to win.

Looking further, you find mention of other legends, the ruler of spring, the lord of winter, even a mention of two different beings that control time. While the tales are numerous, facts are scarce, and you don't have any guarantee that any of them would make the situation better.

You glance over at Lisa, who seems to be having as much luck as you. You also notice that the king hasn't returned yet either.

You decide to look up a bit more information on Xerneas as well as two of the others.

From what you find on Xerneas, it seems to be Yveltal's counterpart in every way. Where Yveltal spreads death and disaster, Xerneas restores life and heals the sick, even recorded as bringing the death back to life. The only details on the location of the white tree in which it rests are that it is in a secluded grove, and that it is likely on the opposite side of the region, which would mean it lies to the west.

As for the other two others, you find less details. One is known as the Wanderer of Time, a small looking creature, rumored to be able to more forward or backward in time freely, though it mostly uses its power to protect forests and plant life. It seems like it would be interested in helping, though finding it would be quite tricky. The other is the Ruler of time, a great beast of steel said to govern the flow of time itself. Details of its location are conflicting and scare. One source claims it resides in the heavens, while another claims it has an ornate palace that can be found only in a specific moment of time. Either way, it is also described as rather aloof and judgmental. Unless Yveltal began disrupting time somehow, you don't think it would want to intervene.

"Any luck?" you ask Lisa, who jumps slightly at the sudden question.

"Not really," she sighs, "There are a lot of stories here, but I'm not sure where we'd be able to find any of them, let alone convincing them to help us."

"Well, we have Jirachi with us," you say, "Maybe she could talk to them and get them to lend a hand."

"That might work," Lisa nods, "We'd still need to find them though, and make sure it wasn't something too dangerous."

Before you have the chance to respond, the door to the study opens once more and the king enters, "Well, I've sent orders for the troops to evacuate anyone from the eastern mountains. "Well, we managed to find some details on Yveltal's counterpart, Xerneas," you begin, "It should have enough power to match it, although not enough to win. That's why I also looked up some information on another legend that might be willing to help."

He nods as you explain the two in more detail, going over the tomes and stories.

"Well researched," the king replies as you finish, "So I suppose our only problem now would be finding these two."

"I think Jirachi might be able to help with that," you say, "She could sense Yveltal from pretty far away, so maybe she can find the others as well."

Jirachi floats over to you upon mentioning her, twirling about in the air.

"Jirachi," you ask, "Can you help us find any of these legends? Or any others that might be nearby to help?"

"Hmm..." Jirachi mumbles, levitating the books in front of it, skimming through the pages, "Recognize some. Let me see where they are."

Jirachi floats up above the table, a soft glow emanating from it. A few moments later, a map appears on the table, and Jirachi opens her eyes.

"The Lord of Winter is sleeping way over there," she starts, pointing off the north-east edge of the map, "The Prince of the Sea and the Queen of the Oceans are close, but they can't go on land easy. Diamond Princess is undergound here," she smiles, pointing near the western mountains, before moving a bit further to the east, near where you and Lisa traveled, "and Xerneas is sleeping near here. Also can sense the Ruler of Spring, the Sword of the Waters, and the Emperor of the Sky but they're moving fast right now."

"What about Celebi?" you ask.

"Not here. Not now," she frowns, "Could call her if we had one of her flutes."

"What can you tell us about the Diamond Princess and the Sword of Waters?" you ask, curious about the others she mentioned.

"Diamond Princess is nice. Diance. Really friendly. Doesn't like fighting much. She lives over here with her friends. Except way deep down," Jirachi says, moving low to the floor for emphasis, before coming back up and gesturing towards the southern part of the map, "Sword of Waters is over near here. Keldeo likes helping people, but finding him might be hard since he's so fast."

Well, if you could wake up Xerneas, find Keldeo, and get to Diance, you'd have 3 on your side. Now if only you had Celebi's flute.

Wait a second.

"Jirachi, does Celebi's flute look anything like this?" you ask, pulling out the silver flute from your pouch, placing it onto the table. Jirachi lifts it up and examines it, pausing for a moment before giggling and smiling.

"Yep. It's one! It's a Time Flue!" Jirachi nods, flipping over in the air, "Just need to play it in a forest!"

"It seems you're full of surprises," the king laughs, "I believe we have enough to go on now, though we'll have to move quickly. I won't be able to accompany you, as I'll need to stay here to coordinate the evacuation and my forces. I should be able to secure you a ride to wherever you need, though."

"That should help," you reply, considering where you should go first.

"We'll head to the forest to get Xerneas first," you say, "So how are we getting there?"

"If you'll follow me," the king says, moving for the door. You all stand to follow him, heading through the castle. You've only seen the study until now, though the rest of it is very ornate. Many intricate columns, paintings, and tapestries line the walls. You'd appreciate the sight more, but you've got other things to worry about now.

Eventually, you're lead to a rather large balcony, where a number of large bird monsters with saddles seem to be perched.

"We use these monsters when we need to deliver messages more quickly," the king explains, "Nothing is faster in the air, and they're quite capable of carrying people as well. Although I think your friend there might be a bit too large." He glances to Shelgon, and indeed you have trouble picturing the heavy dragon being born aloft even by these large birds.

The king gets the stable hands to start preparing the birds for your departure, while the three of you wait nearby.

You turn towards Lisa and Jenna, giving a slight chuckle, "Well, did you imagine that you'd be involved with this kind of adventure when we left? Kind of exciting isn't it?"

"I guess," Lisa says, "I don't know if exciting is the word I'd use for trying to take down a monster that causes death though."

"Guess we shouldn't be surprised by now," you smile, "Just another day in the life of Ceil, Aura User and Legendary Hunter, eh?"

Lisa grins while struggling to stifle her laughter, "You never change, do you Ceil?" she asks, moving in close and giving you a hug, "Of course, I wouldn't have it any other way."

You return her embrace, holding onto her for a moment before breaking off.

"What's the matter Jenna?" you ask, "You seem sort of quiet."

Jenna stiffens as you call out to her, slowly turning to face you, "I'm fine...really!" she replies, though the nervousness is clear in her voice.

"Come on," you say, kneeling down and placing a hand on her shoulder, "Whatever's wrong, you can tell me."

"It's just," she sighs, hugging Jirachi in her arms, "I'm worried I'm gonna get in the way again, and that this time...that thing's really scary. What if you guys get hurt because of me?"

You consider how to reply. On one hand, this was rather dangerous and it might be better to have her be somewhere safe, but you're not sure if that wouldn't just make her worry more.

"Don't blame yourself for what's happened. You were scared," you begin, "And everybody gets scared sometimes. You're smart and know how to take care of yourself, and that's why I'm glad to have you with us no matter what."

"Ceil..." she says replies, though you continue.

"But, I can't ask you to come along if you don't feel like you're up to it. While I'd be happy to have you come along, this is probably going to be the most dangerous thing we've ever done. It's your decision, but you need to make it for yourself, not because you're worried about messing up or getting us hurt."

"Okay Ceil," she nods, "Can you give me a minute to think about it?"

"Take all the time you need," you reply, not wanting to pressure her.

Leaving Jenna alone to think, you head over to check on your monsters.

'Hello Ceil,' Lucario says as you approach, 'Are we leaving now?'

"Not just yet," you reply, still getting used to the idea of Riolu talking, "I wanted to check on how you were all doing."

'Still a bit tired, but that won't stop us,' Lucario boasts, a fire in his eyes, 'Shelgon is upset since he can't come though. You know how much he likes flying.'

"Yeah, but I don't think those birds can carry him," you sigh, wishing you had bought one of those strange transport fruits earlier. You glance over to Shelgon, and even you can see the anger clear in his eyes. He's growling softly, glaring at the birds across the balcony.

"How about you offer to spar with him?" you suggest, "Help him let out some anger."

'Sure,' Lucario grins, 'I could use the exercise anyway.'

He heads over to Shelgon, barking something at him in explanation. Shelgon growls in response, but then the two of them start to square off.

You decide to head over to the king to ask if he has any of those strange fruits you saw. Surely he would have at least one right?

"Excuse me, your majesty?" you say politely, unsure of the best way to approach.

"Yes? What is it?" he responds, turning to face you. He was behaving much more professionally now, "Ah, I see your monsters are practicing. A fine display."

You turn to see that Lucario and Shelgon are going at it quite heavily. Lucario is making good advantage of his speed, while Shelgon tries to blast him with fire and bash him with his shell, to little success.

"Indeed," you nod, "Shelgon was a bit disgruntled about not being able to accompany us on our quest, and I was wondering if you had any suggestions. I recall seeing a mysterious fruit capable of trapping a monster inside for transport, though I do not know if you would possess one."

"Sadly, I do not," the king replies, reaching down to pet his Espeon, "I personally found the thought of placing my monsters in such a tiny object distasteful, though with the current turn of events I am starting to see how that sort of thing could be quite useful. I am afraid you'll have to make due for now."

"Thank you, your majesty," you sigh. You suppose it was a bit too much to hope for. You recall that Lady Shabonneau had one, though she's with Thomas right now, which doesn't help you transport Shelgon.

You continue watching the match, Shelgon struggling to keep up with Lucario. You notice that he seems to be getting faster, reacting ever quicker to his foe. Lucario struggles to maintain his distance, hammering strikes into the armored shell.

As this continues, you soon spot a hairline fracture forming in Shelgon's hide, the thick plates splitting and cracking. Still though, he moves forward, claws swiping as he advances further and further. You spot people moving out of the way of the pair as they fight, Lucario on the defensive.

You start moving forward to intervene, this was getting dangerous. Lucario had been pushed almost all the way to the edge of the balcony, and Shelgon wasn't letting up.

Shelgon reels back to let out another gout of flame, though it seems different this time, and a few moments later you see why. Rather than fire, a bright beam of orange energy fires out of his mouth, narrowly missing Lucario and blasting apart the nearby flagstone. You spot the cracks of his shell glowing slightly as well. Pausing for a moment to catch his breath after the display, he then rushes forward towards Lucario, who nimbly leaps overhead. However, his momentum carries him further, crashing through another of the stones near the edge and sending him over.

You cry out in shock, not expecting him to do something so reckless though, however in the seconds after you see a bright glow shining from over the side, and a thunderous roar follows moments later. You wait and watch as a massive blue form carried on blood red wings soars up, and several gasps of shock and alarm fill the area. You spot a few guards raise their spears on instinct as the beast starts turning circles in the sky.

"A Salamence?" Lisa almost screams, "What is a Salamence doing here of all places?"

'It's Shelgon.' Lucario states plainly, eyes closed, 'Shelgon transformed into that.'

"What?" Lisa asks, eyes wide with shock, "But..."

"Salamence is a terrifying monster," the king interjects, "Though all those who have tamed them did so when they were fully grown. No one new quite what they originated from, until now, it seems."

If we don't immediately run up, happily yell that he can fly now and hug the shit out of him, I will be sad.

Salamence lets out another roar of triumph as he soars down, landing on the balcony with a heavy thud. You watch as the stable hands struggle to keep their birds calm as he causes the balcony to shake somewhat.

"Nicely done Salamence," you call out, "Now you can fly all you want!"

Salamence lets out a low rumble, in a much better mood than before. He tentatively lets out a few gouts of flame as well, getting used to his new size.

With one less worry, you continue your preparations to take off...

And that's where I'm gonna call it for now. Thanks for playing!

I'll be around for any questions or comments as well.

Well WE promised to make it strong and that one day it could fly. We're good on our word. So Salamence wanna teach those birds how to fly in style?

Anyway Medi was he really close to evoing before this or did you through us a gimme? Also how are our odds if we can get Xerneas and Celebei to help?

Okay, that post number deserves it.

-------

After Salamence lands, you head over to him, wrapping one of your arms around his heavy, trunk-like legs. He cranes his neck towards you, butting you gently with his head. At least you assume he's trying to be gentle, he doesn't seem to know his own strength yet.

Still, you're proud of him, and nothing can change that.

Excellent thread Medi! So excited that we have a Salamance!
>>39101045
Medi mentioned in a previous thread that Shelgon was really close to evolving (which was why I voted for sparring).
>>
>>39101045
Salamence is still new to the flying thing. They'll probably be teaching him more.

He was already really close though. I would have done it after the Druddigon or Hydreigon, but narrow caves aren't exactly the best place for that.

Getting Xerneas to held is all but garunteed. Celebi is fairly certain as well. The rest are more questionable.

ok cool thanks for running!

Thanks for running Medi, I always have fun with this.

So, on a scale of 1 to Oh Shit, how paniced were the guards when SUDDENLY SALAMENCE? What will our parents think?
>>
>>39101316
Probably around an 8. Tame Salamence are rare, but not unheard of. It's wild ones that are the most dangerous, which since there wasn't anyone riding it, made them assume it was wild.

Your parents will probably be happy for you. Unless you try to make them pay for its meals. A Salamence requires a lot of food.
>>
>>39101411
So does this mean it'll only let Ciel/Jenna/Lisa ride it, or because it's "tame" it'll be more open to random ridealongs.
Are all the Bagon in the Bagon nest Jelious?
>>
>>39101464
Most tame Salamence usually only accept people they are acclimated and accustomed to, usually whoever tamed them and that person's closest friends or family.

Since your Salamence was raised from a Bagon however, he'd be more open to giving rides to others, if a bit disgruntled about it.

And yes, the Bagon would be very jealous if they ever found out.
>>
>>39101501
Neat. makes me dividing about telling people what Salamence evolves from. Like I totally wouldn't want the nest to be over hunted, or people dying from pissing off a ton of dragons.
But I'd also like for the dreams of all the random Bagon to be fulfilled and them to fly too.

>Unless you try to make them pay for its meals. A Salamence requires a lot of food.
One of the rewards we ask for when we save the kingdom is "Never have to pay to feed Salamence for the rest of our lives."
>>
>>39101559
It'd take a pretty dedicated effort to spread the message around anyway. Even if the people present decided to blab about it, a lot of people don't even know what Bagon are, let alone the existence of that cave.

Besides, Salamence aren't exactly the end-all of strong things. While people might certainly want one, there are easier and safer alternatives.

>>39101574
He's going to need to eat about one head of cattle each day, or at least the equivalent. He could subsist off less, but even then that is still a lot of food.

Fortunately, Salamence are pretty adept hunters, so having him feed himself is fairly cost effective.

>Salamence aren't exactly the end-all of strong things
They're pretty up there though. Tyrannitar, Metagross, and Dragonite are all probably much more Elusive.
The one Hydragon we saw nearly murdered us.

Though appearantly Gabite are fairly common, it'd probably be easier to capture and raise a Gabite?
>>
>>39101783
Well, most people only ever have one or two monsters, but there also isn't an extreme demand for the strongest ones. Even the military would prefer something less temperamental in larger numbers.

Gible and Gabite are much more common and easier to raise. Lisa's family has quite a few Gible, though they mostly just use them for their teeth. It's easier to catch one, but raising a Garchomp is usually not seen as worth it due to how finicky they are.

You should totally write like a setting background. I love reading about the setting stuff like this just as much as participating in threads.

Or maybe an Ask.Fm
