You change back in your old outfit and fake off that form-fitting, leather-and-bone horror the Deathlord handed you. You don't really want to come back from your meeting with the Tyrant looking like she just converted you to the Dark Side or anything like that.

Especially considering that you've got big trouble to handle, and you're not too sure HOW.

The Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water, also known as the Silver Prince.

You never had the chance to deal directly with the Silver Prince, but you've known that he's been spying on Tianna and trying to find the location of the Titan for a while now.

And now, thirty ships are heading towards Tianna under the War Flag of Oblivion, and will be here in five days.

He's certainly still after the Titan, but it looks like his main objective now is to take down the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine. Either as a rival, or as a traitor to their dark masters.

On one side, five days is a laughably short time to get ready for anything.

But on the other, many preparations have already been done beforehand, in case Tyrant ended up attacking you. And what would work against one undead army, could work against another. Mostly.

Your coffers are overflowing with the treasure you looted and pillaged from the Lintha, and you have the full support of a considerable number of Exalted, gods and spirits, on top of the mortal population of Tianna.

You just have to decide how to use your resources.

You glance at the distant hilltop darkened by the evil Essence seeping from the Dark Omen, Tyrant's airship. She's gathering her army and preparing to move close to Pearl. Your pet project, your future manse and holy city.

You're still not too sure that that was a smart decision.

Speaker for the Dead, Tyrant's Moonshadow-caste Deathknight, who you picked as a... liaison, of sorts, is caressing the thick neck of the undead monstrosity that flew you here, up to the gates of Tianna City.

"Will that thing... Are you going to just leave it here?" You ask her. The soldiers and farmers you scared by landing the ornithopter here are still keeping a rather large safety distance from the monster. You can't blame them.

"Don't worry." She grins, clearly amused. "It won't eat anyone unless I tell him to." She looks up to the fortified walls of the city, bristling with worried-looking soldiers. You see the thick metallic barrel of an essence cannon peeking from the battlements, trained on the ornithopter. "So, did you just need a lift up to here, or...?"

>Yeah. You can head back to the Dark Omen. Thanks for the help.
>No, I need you to stay and speak for your mistress. You can leave the ornithopter here.
>No, I need you to stay and speak for your mistress. You can send the ornithopter back

>Who are we?
Maka, an exiled noble Exalted as a Zenith-caste Solar. She was in the western city of Tianna as a guest of queen Amata, an old friend. Abyssals are targeting the city for conquest, Lintha pirates have infiltrated it with spies and agents, and the Realm is probably planning to get rid of you.
But things are also looking up. You have gathered a lot of allies and friends, have a powerful Manse under construction, and are unifying Tianna in a great nation under your overwhelming charisma.
You just discovered the reason everyone seems to be so interested in Tianna: an enormous magical fortress lies buried underground, a relic of the First Age with enough firepower to destroy anything...

>Solar? Zenith? I don't know Exalted...
This quest is as newbie-friendly as possible, and I want it to work as a newbie's intro to Exalted. If you have ANY question, ask in thread. For the setting, google "1d4chan exalted".

>Archive?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Solar%20Quest

>System?
Dicepool-like system. When performing an action, everyone rolls 1d10 when posting. the first X rolls are considered, where X is equal to attribute + ability. Yes, this means that the more people are posting, the stronger Maka is, up to a limit of her attribute + ability.

>XP?
Attributes cost [current score x5] xp. Abilities cost [current score x3] xp, except Zenith costing [(current score x3) -1]. Charms cost 10 xp, except for Zenith-based charms (related to charisma and physical/mental fortitude) which cost 8 xp. At the end of every "session" (thread) you will be presented with a list of possible acquisitions.

"No, I need you to stay and speak for your mistress." You shake your head, giving one last glance at the magical weapon pointed at the undead flyer. "You can leave the ornithopter here."

You hope.

You head through the gates and up Main Street, and the soldiers and citizens of the city crowd around you as you pass. Many suspicious glances are directed at Speaker, but no one says or does anything in merit.

The city certainly seems ready to sustain a siege. Soldiers are everywhere, especially on the walls. Barrels of water and of salt are at every street corner. Windows are closed, and several civilians are armed - normally not that brilliant of an idea as they could get in the way of the actual, trained soldiers, but the presence of Exalted in the city means they have a better chance of being directed well and to accomplish something useful in the chaos of a battle.

It's impressive how tactics and strategies change completely from what common sense would suggest, once you factor in the Champions of the Gods.

You half-expected Amata to rush down from the castle and head to meet you, since at this point she probably knows you're here. Heck, she can probably see you from the castle's windows.

But it's more likely that she doesn't want to meet you in the middle of a crowd on the street.

The soldiers guarding the castle gates keep the crowd out as you, Speaker and a handful of other guards push through and enter.

If the city seemed ready for a siege, the castle is even more so, with piles of supplies stacked out of the way, in corners and unused rooms, and soldiers, officers, bureaucrats and civil servants of all sorts busily running up and down the corridors.

"Maka!"

Amata rushes out of a door - you remember it being the dinner room re-purposed as the castle's room. "You're alright!" She runs up to you, distressed, and flies in your arms. "Oh, I was so worried! What happened? How did it go?"

>Explain the situation with Tyrant at the best of your ability. Take your time doing so.

"I'm alright. It's a bit hard to explain, but Tyrant is not our enemy, and will fight the Silver Prince with us. You can trust me on this." You whisper, stroking her hair.

Still hanging on to you, she shoots a fiercely suspicious glare sideways at Speaker, who seems quite nonchalant. "And who's this?"

"I", begins Speaker with a grandiose gesture, "am Speaker for the Dead, Deathknight of the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine. Pleased to meet you, Dragon-blooded."

Of course she knows Amata's name, she just made a point of underlining her nature as a "lesser" Exalted. Amata's sullen look worsens.

"...Do you really trust these sort of undead clowns, Maka?"

"We're on the same boat now. The Silver Prince is coming for her as much as us."

"Yeah." She gently lets go of you, and grabs your hand, pulling you towards the war room. "Or at least this is what they're saying."

"Are you calling my mistress a liar?" Speaker follows you with long steps and a sliver of ice in her voice.

Amata doesn't respond. The war room's doors swing open.

Everyone is inside. Amata sure did a great job of gathering everyone who matters in Tianna in the same room in preparation for your arrival.

Amid the cheers that greet your return you spot Mikahil and Five Tails, Samiel and Irene, Zaan and Talon (who seems to have recovered completely and greets you with a nod of his massive head), Valeriana (amid a stack of books and papers) and her assistant Leah, and Zareen all decked out in the stuff you found in the Titan.

Your three captains, Alexei, Iohannes Quint and Rubel Sareni are sitting to one side of the large round table, Iscariah of the Black Talons on the other, still clad in her power armor as well, now all decorated in a rather barbarian fashion with furs and hanging talismans.

You also spot Roan Denzik, Amata's contact with the Denzik trading corporation, clearly feeling ill at ease being surrounded by all these absurdly powerful creatures.

The absence of Admiral Hazaakaa doesn't escape your notice. You have to wonder if you'll ever see him again.

The gods and spirits are also missing, but that doesn't surprise you. What does surprise you is seeing Pyre Spark sitting at the table like everyone else. Looks like Amata decided to call her despite her own past decision that it would be politically unsavvy to make such a religiously loaded decision.

Karas isn't here. You have to wonder what happened to him.

However, you don't have time to even think about it. Above all other noise in the room, Tia's scream of "MAKAAAAAAAAAAAAAA~" literally shatters a wine-filled glass on the table (causing a predictable mess) as she leaps a dozen meters across the room, over the table, headbutting you like a battering ram on a fortress gate and sending you both down for the count.

(cont.)
>>
"Tia." You cough out.

"Maka! I've missed you so much!"

"It's been half a hour, Tia." You sigh, trying to stand back up in the general laughter and chuckles from all around the room.

"Yeah, but we were on a mission. I was nervous and didn't want to do something wrong so I didn't do anything."

And now she clearly wanted to do everything, you realize as you feel her becoming way too happy.

"Tia." Amata coughs. "Don't do anything improper to Maka. We have a very important meeting to take care of first."

Meanwhile Tia does look like she wouldn't really mind picking you up, slamming you down in the middle of the table, and do all sort of unspeakable things to your body in front of everyone assembled.

>Let her. She's been patient, she deserves a reward.

The idea tempts you sorely. You do need to kick back and relax. Tyrant was a particularly harrowing example of performance anxiety.

But...

Well, Amata has gone through the trouble of calling everyone here. You can't well ask them to wait until Tia is done with you. It could take days.

Or until you are done with Tia. It could take weeks.

Under several embarrassed/disapproving gazes, you whisper to Tia: "Later. I promise."

Tia makes THE SADDEST FACE EVER OH GOD and lets you stand up, keeping hold of your hand however, gently squeezing it from time to time.

You sit down at the table, with her on your right and Amata on your left. Speaker just stands behind you, still half-smirking from the scene.

"I'm sure you all know what's going on." You begin.

"More or less." Mikahil mumbles. "Thirty ships from the Silver Prince, heading here."

"And supposedly the Tyrant will be on our side." Amata groans.

Some chatter ensues across the table.

"I don't trust Tyrant. But I trust Maka, and if Maka tells me to trust Tyrant, that's good enough for me."

Mumbles of general consent follow, interrupted when Speaker bows to the assembly.

"I am Speaker for the Dead." She introduces herself grandiosely. "Here to liaise between you lot and my mistress."

Valeriana immediately raises a hand, like a schoolgirl with a question for her teacher.

"Yes?"

"Is it true that Skullstone has the capability to produce Swift Midday Brilliance-class first-age warships?"

"Yes."

Now Irene's hand rises.

"Are those thirty ships-"

"Yes."

Irene raises her hand again. Speaker sighs.

"What do I need to do to get my hands on one?" She grins with delight.

Someone mentioned this before, but Tianna is actually in a pretty good place to defend itself from a naval attack, being located at the end of an inland passage it would force a naval fleet to come in from one direction and it would limit how many could come at once.

On the other hand these are First Age warships, I'm worried about them being able to actually fly and ignore that chokehold.

We had a navy barely fending off lintha pirates before. Now we're short one DB admiral. Even with two eclipses, whom may not have invested into Sail, a straight fight against a 30 strong war fleet with who knows how many Exalts is not a winning proposition.

"The Swift Midday Brilliance ships are generally twenty-six meters long. Crew is fifteen, plus twenty-five passengers..."

"...Or two warstriders."

She shuts up.

"Maximum speed is 44 knots, under own power. Regardless of wind. Hull is made from an organic, self-healing metal, comparable in sturdiness to tempered steel. Each ship can have up to four essence discharge weapons mounted in swiveling platforms with overlapping arcs of fire."

Mikahil is white as a sheet.

"If they try and sail the ships in the harbor, they're dead. I don't care if they're made out of wood or copper or steel or goddamn jade." Samiel boasts. "With the spirits controlling the waters around the island, we can keep them in low tides. The access to the bay would be narrow enough that they have to sail in one, two at a time, if they don't want to run aground."

"Turkey shoot." Mikahil mumbles.

"On the other hand, they could hit the ground anywhere in Tianna and unload anywhere between... Zareen does the math. "750 soldiers, assuming they keep the crews on board. That doesn't sound like TOO MUCH."

"750 soldiers or up to sixty warstriders." mumbles Irene.

"I doubt they'll have more than a few of them." Speaker says dismissively. "The Prince's strategic doctrine is about naval power, not land power."

"But if I could only carry 750 soldiers, I'd make damn sure they're the best of the best." Amata notes. Everyone agrees and nods.

"What about Pearl's defenses?" you ask Valeriana, but you already know the answer.

"A wooden palisade, and an untrained volunteer citizen militia formed by off-duty construction site workers. Armed with shovels and pickaxes. Plus a Fair Folk."

It's not a celebration, but a ceremony that consecrates the manse.

You've had this idea in mind for a while. Even if it's pretty stupid.

"Valeriana?" You call the Twilight.

"Yes?"

"Can we finish the Manse in one week?"

Stunned silence follows. Conversations around the table die out.

"...I'm sorry?" She shakes her head, like she's trying to force herself to wake up from a bad dream.

"Can we finish the Manse in one week?" You repeat, unfazed, putting up an impassible face.

"You're-" She pauses, and stares at you.

She cracks a smile, like she's thinking "Oh, oooh, okay, I get it, very funny Maka."

...And then her smile slowly dies down as she sees you keep a serious expression, like she's thinking "Oh. Oh you're actually serious."

"...You're asking me if we can complete in seven days a construction job that should, by all rights, take us about a couple of years."

"...Yes." You nod. "Yes, that is exactly what I am asking you."

"That's the... that's the most insane thing I've ever heard." She stands up. "Are you alright, Maka?"

"I'm perfectly fine, Valeriana. Can you answer my question now?" You try and keep calm.

She glances sideways, in turn, at Irene, Mikahil, and Zaan. They all look right back at her, dead silent as well. Then Amata. Talon, Pyre Spark. Roan Denzik.

"Finishing the Manse in a week?"

"Yes." You nod.

"That's bullshit."

"I know." You nod. "Can we do it?"

She looks at the others again.

"We have a plan."

You make yourself more comfortable on your chair. Looks like they've been talking in your absence. "Go on."

"Well. Less like a plan. Let's call it an idea. A concept."

"A theory, actually." suggests Zaan.

"More like an experiment." Amata sighs with a glance at Irene.

"Haphazard guess?" Talon doesn't sound too convinced.

"Miracle." Is Pyre's suggestion.

"Too optimistic." Mikahil shoots her down. "I liked the first term."

"Plan?" Valeriana asks.

"Bullshit." He replies.

You groan. "I'm still waiting."

Everyone else in the weird, mismatched group looks up at Valeriana, Zaan and Amata, who seem like the ringleaders of the entire idea.

"It's very long and difficult to explain." Starts Zaan. "And if it doesn't work, which is not unlikely, we'll have lost the time and chance to either normally fortify or properly evacuate Pearl. So it's do or die."

"And it has a small chance of blowing up the western side of Tianna island, anyway." Valeriana adds.

Hey, Exaltedfag? When you get a chance - it doesn't need to be in this thread, but eventually - can we get a map of Tianna including the layout of the leylines between the manses/demesnes? Those will need to be fortified at some point, to keep people from diverting their flow to our manses through bombings, and we might be able to build a mass transit system between manses using the leylines themselves to power them.
>>
Rolled 1 (1d10)

>>38486899
See, this is something I love about Exalted. As soon as magically-capable people get involved, civilian populations turn into standing armies, and leylines replace rivers as sources of transit and wellsprings of settlement. It's a setting that actually rolls with the sociopolitical implications of its magic's effect on the setting, instead of the medieval homeostasis of generic fantasy settings.

>just tell me the short version

We have 4 days. It's probably not enough but there is a chance it is
>>
"Give me the short version." You ask.

Zaan stands up from his chair. "...There's a sorcery spell that can erect a Manse in a short time."

"How short?" It's not going to be so easy, right?

"For our Demesne? Normally it would be irrelevant, since neither of us is powerful enough to cap such a big and unconventional Demesne. But, in theory, five weeks."

Figures.

"So, the plan - or however you want to call it - is to combine your spells together?" You ask, and then glance at Valeriana. "...Wait, I thought you said you didn't know Sorcery."

"I don't." She confirms. "Yet."

This is sounding worse and worse the more you learn about it.

"The idea is to combine this spell, other two or three, the use of summoned Elementals and summoned Demons, plus mortal and Exalted workforce, and jury-rigging Tianna's essence-discharge weaponry to be used in construction work, plus Irene's Armor of the Earth Dragon's earth-moving powers, plus all the blessings we can force Dancing Smoke and Yaraon to give us." Zaan explains in one single run-on sentence. "Mash everything together and hope that we can find a way to somehow get a Manse out of it."

A collective groan rises from the table.

>That's bullshit. Let's just fortify the place, it's more reasonable.

"That's the most insane, nonsensical, desperate thing I've ever heard of." You inform them.

Mumbles from the crowd.

"The problem is." Irene tries to explain. "I don't know anything about sorcery."

"And I have no idea what you're even talking about." Roan Denzik meekly whispers. "But I can organize shipments of raw materials here and little else, I guess."

"Alright, It's okay if each of you works to one specific bit of the project as long as someone coordinates everyone." You nod. "You know, to make sure we don't end up with a hideous monstrosity of a manse. Speaking of which, do we have a finished blueprint?"

"No." Valeriana sighs. "Still have to finish it. We don't have time to just wait for it, we'll have to start by building the parts that I have designed, and while they come together I'll go on designing it bit by bit, moving up the tower."

Unlikely.

The Deathlords lost all access to Sorcery but gained full access to Necromancy, and they tend not to bother teaching Sorcery to their Deathknights, since they can access at best Celestial Circle, which means it's a dead end compared to pursuing Necromancy too.

The undead might be helpful, as long as they don't taint our consecration or get destroyed by it. Remember, undead in this setting actually are unholy beings, not merely negative energy-animated constructs.

We've only seen Zaan use Terrestrial Circle, so having access to Celestial Circle is nothing to sneeze at. We also have a couple Exalts who have said that they're going to learn Sorcery. Tyrant might remember some powerful First Age spells that she can't cast but could teach.

"I'll be perfectly honest. I don't really care what each of you thinks about Tyrant. You're free to not trust her. Heck, I'm not even one hundred percent sure I trust her myself. But I think- no, rather, I have decided she deserves a chance. And she will have one. She will have the option to help us build Pearl. The first manse - and city - consecrated to the Unconquered Sun since the First Age." You take in a deep breath. "And, hopefully, one with a better fate, and a better future in store for her."

You turn to Valeriana, Zaan and Amata. "I believe she can help you a lot, if you let her. Will you give her a chance?"

Social + Zenith = 5 3 5 3 1 4 3 2 1 8 = 1 success

>>
>>38487751
Because everything turned out fine, so our frustration doesn't exceed our laziness. We should still be informed either way. How else do we know when it's charm-using time and when we're just giving an unrolled statement?

I, for example, thought we were just putting an idea on the table, rather than trying to make a convincing argument.

A not-insignificant amount of strife could be avoided if you'd simply put denotation like [Social Roll] or [Combat Roll] next to actions which require rolls and therefore benefit from dice charms.

Otherwise we're just making guesses as to when charms are even appropriate, and that's been a shitstorm-spawning problem even when things have gone right.

Man, your head hurts. You really can't wait to be finally able to relax a minute. Especially considering that there's going to be a terribly busy week ahead of you.

"...Fine, don't listen to me. Listen to her." You turn to Speaker for the Dead, standing behind you. "It's your turn."

[TALKING TO THE HEART]
[ESSENCE 5/6]

She sighs like a teenager that's just been forced by her mom to tidy her room.

"For what my word's worth to you people... My mistress REALLY has no ill intention. She's confused, and worried, and scared. She's tired of the Neverborn and looking for a new direction in life. Unlife. However you want to call it. Maka offered one to her."

She pauses for effect, letting her eyes wander around the table.

"Honestly? You all should feel HONORED and HUMBLED to have the chance of working with the Tyrant of the Doomsday Machine. And you better BE. Because she's taking everything she is, everything she built, and thousands of years of commitment, and putting all of that in your hands. And that's more dedication and more trust than ANY of you will ever give her."

She steps back. Mumbling around the table resumes. Seems that, at least, they're willing to give her a chance.

>Speaker, head back and inform Tyrant. We'll meet her in Pearl tomorrow as planned.

"By the way, can any of you tell me where my brother Karas is? I haven't seen him yet." You ask.

The uncomfortable silence that follows really worries you, but it's fortunately immediately broken by Talon.

Talon? You weren't expecting him. Him and Karas must have barely have time to meet while you were away.

"...As soon as Tia came back with the news, he immediately insisted to leave."

"...Leave?!" You're not sure what to think. "Wait. WHAT DO YOU MEAN, LEAVE?!"

Knowing him, he's probably sailing towards the Silver Prince's fleet alone, on a rowboat.

"Well... we've been talking a bit while you were away. He was curious about the... special... relationship between you and Tia, so I told him about Lunar Mates and the general idea behind it. He didn't know much about Lunars, so he had a lot of questions."

"...Go on."

You don't like where this is going.

Zaan and Five Tails start giggling. They KNOW where this is going.

"Actually." You stop him. "Let me guess."

The enormous wolf-man waits.

"He went out to look for "his" Lunar Mate."

"Yes." He admits.

You facepalm.

"Did you explain to him how inane the entire idea is?"

"Didn't have time to."

"What does he know?"

"He knows where a few of our meeting spots are."

You scratch your head. Fumble for words a bit. Think about your brother and how retarded he is.

"...Did he go out there to look for potential allies for our cause, or because he wanted a girlfriend?"

He doesn't answer, and you slam your fist into the table.

"Damnit."

So while we wait I want to throw out an idea I had last night while I was falling asleep.

We want to redeem Tyrant, but a big hurdle is the fact that she's been lobotomized and can't feel emotions anymore. Could we craft her an artifact that would let her fake emotions?

I was thinking something based on a Fair Folk's Graces, you know how Silk doesn't actually have emotions but she's fallen so far into her role that she's become it? I'm hoping for a similar kind of effect to happen to Tyrant
>>
>>38490209

"...alright. The less time we waste on my little brother's idiotic escapades, the better."

A bit of snickering around the table.

"You know what your job is, and you're competent enough to do it. Valeriana, complete that project, then work on sorcery or something. I don't even know how you learn sorcery in the first place. Just do your thing. You know it better than me."

"I'll try and have the design finished by tonight. I'll come and see you later for the last adjustments and the things that you should advise me on."

"Zaan, do all the sorcerous work you can do without Valeriana's help, then coordinate with her."

"Sure thing."

"Samiel, focus on Tianna's defenses. Just make sure we're not caught with our pants down while we focus on Pearl. Most of the Exalted will spend the next week there working, so you'll mostly be in charge. I know you can keep the people here safe."

"I will." He replies, confident.

"Irene. Go crazy with your stuff. I know it means lowering Tianna's artillery defenses. Plan things ahead. I want those weapons back on the battlements in a week. But until then..."

"Not a problem."

"Zareen. You're counterespionage in Tianna. Fivetails. You're in Pearl. We know we have spies of the Silver Prince around. Root them out."

"With pleasure." "Yes."

"Talon. All the help you and the tribes can give us."

"They're not skilled with construction work, but they can serve as a mix of brute manpower, for some alchemical and thaumaturgical issues, and to hunt for fresh food for the crews in Pearl."

"If we can get our hands on even one of those ships we can repay it all and then some." Mikahil grins.

"Pyre?"

"Divine Maka?"

"Hug." You spread your arms, and she flies to you with a squeal of bliss.

I already voted for Amata, but doing this or having her wait until we're done with queeny is good.
>>
You give a quick kiss to Pyre. "Give me a moment." You whisper to her, standing up and walking out of the room with Amata and Tia. Speaker, fortunately, hangs back.

Together, the three of you head to Amata's room.

Once there, predictably, the first thing Tia does is pick you up and toss you on the bed, which squeaks distressingly with your impact.

"Tia! Just a moment!" You scold her.

"But Maka!" She complains. "How long are we going to wait?"

"...Sorry, Tia. But I and Maka have to talk about something very sensitive." Amata tries to be diplomatic.

"If it's about the Titan, she knows now." You explain.

Amata's eyes widen.

"Speaker." You explain.

"Who else knows?"

"No idea." You shrug.

Amata slumps in the bed next to you. "...Sorry for keeping it a secret from you, Tia. I had no choice."

Tia lies down on the other side of you, looking quite uninterested in the conversation, like she's just waiting for you to be done with it.

"...So. The big question." Amata asks eagerly. "What does she need the Titan for?"

Yeah, it's important to tell Amata what her intentions were and what we shifted them to.

A good point. If we REALLY want to be forthright, we could mention how crucial we and our approval were in Tyrant's plans for the Titan.

Also, since we're telling everything, maybe we could ask Amata who she sold her soul to that she can't talk about it at all?

I've gotten the feeling it's Sidereals, we should ask her about those too. At least I think Maka should know about them now, she heard about them in her First Age flashback
>>
"She wants to use it in the Underworld. Not in Creation."

"That's no excuse to give it to her."

"I talked her out of it." You reassure her.

"Did you really?"

You hesitate. "Honestly, I'm not too sure. I think I bought some time. Gave her some hope. Helped her find a better solution to her problems than blowing them up with the biggest cannon she could find."

"Mh." She mumbles. "Maka."

That tone of voice means business. "Yes?"

"I'm about to ask you a very important question. Even if we're in an emergency, I want you to take your time and think about it. We have to take a decision, and it will be a very important one. One that might shape the future of Tianna and maybe all of Creation."

"...Yes?"

Amata collects her thoughts for a moment. "Do we intend to reactivate the Titan?"

She can't be serious. "...You mean, RIGHT NOW?"

"No. We couldn't do it right now even if we would. I mean in general. We can start stripping the Titan down for materials with which to build not just Pearl, but also better fortifications for Tianna, more weapons, all sorts of things which would come enormously useful for us in the short term."

"But permanently cost us the Titan in the long term?"

"More or less. Depends on how much we take."

"...I've been wondering something. Suppose we, or... suppose someone activated the Titan, and lifted it up. Out of the sea. And suppose everything worked perfectly. What would happen?

"The entire island of Tianna would take to the sky."

"Intact? No damage?" That doesn't sound believable.

"Intact."

"But we did a geological analysis, remember? Most of Tianna is sand and loose soil. It should crumble down in a massive landslide."

"I'm sure by now it must be obvious to you. Someone BUILT Tianna to hide the Titan."

(cont.)
>>
>>38491744
Wait, someone built an island around the most powerful first age fortification to exist and made everyone believe that Island was always there and mostly uninteresting?? that would take CRAZY amounts of manipulation, scheming, essence and favors from different gods, not to say coercion... yeah sounds like the sids

It's gotta be, from Maka's memories we know one of the last living Exalts in the Titan was a Gold Faction Sidereal. He would hie it to make sure it didn't fall into the DB's and the Bronze Factions hands.
>>
"I suspected as much."

"Whoever did that, made sure that the island could be kept attached around the Titan, intact, as camouflage. Technically, the Titan could take off without causing damage to Tianna and Pearl."

"How do you know this?" You ask her.

She stays silent.

"...Who are you working for, Amata? Who did you sell your soul to?"

She stays silent. Her hand closes around yours.

"...Fine."

"...Why was Tyrant so obsessed with you? And how does she know of the Titan?"

I don't mind how much we tell her, but any chance we can make a reference to Sidereals in general to see how she reacts?

Something about agents in heaven or maybe starry-eyed spies or something. Assuming Maka does know about them.
>>
Just want to point out that calling the woman the Tyrant used to be our previous incarnation is a misnomer. We were never her. She's a completely different person who happened to have the same exaltation. Her soul is even still around, not-reincarnated, as a ghost. She's our predecessor, and we are her heir, not anything to do with reincarnation.
>>
>>38492015
That's a fair point. She might not just be kept from telling us, she might also be compelled to tell whoever they are. A late-night Infallible Messenger is all it would take for them to know a Deathlord wants us to pilot a Titan for them.

"...She sees me as her chance to return to the Unconquered Sun and free herself from the Primordial's influence."

"Because you have the Titan?" She asks back. "Or because you're a Zenith?"

"...Both. I think. It's hard to get in her head."

You spend some more time in the bed, staring at the ceiling.

"She said that she doesn't mind putting me in charge of whatever she wants to do with the Titan in the Underworld. To reassure me that she really wants just that."

Amata doesn't reply, but you know that she's listening.

You WANT to tell her more, but...

"So?" She suddenly asks.

"What?"

"What should we do with the Titan?"

"...Would taking it apart compromise the solidity of the island?"

"...Not if we do it properly. But if we disassemble the core parts completely, Dancing Smoke might die."

"What?" You ask her, surprised.

"The volcano is nothing other than the reactor's heat vent."

Of course it is. You saw it too.

That means...

"...So Dancing Smoke is not a volcano goddess at all."

"She might even believe herself to be one, but no. No mere volcano god, not even a very powerful one, has draconic traits. That's something only the most powerful gods or elementals have. She's... I think she's whatever's left of the patron goddess of the Titan itself."

"...So that's why I've never met Tianna's island god."

"Because Tianna isn't a real island. Dancing Smoke would be the closest thing. Or rather..." She sighs. "The being Dancing Smoke used to be, before she lost her power, domain, and memory."

[Session End]
>>
>>38492404
Here's the deal. An Exaltation is an add-on to a persons soul that empowers them. When said person dies, the Exaltation goes to another worthy person. In theory, the God of Exaltation Lytek scrubs the memories off the Exaltation before it goes to a new bearer. In practice, there tends to be baggage attached.

No matter how you slice it, the words 'inherit' or 'reincarnate' have no place in the process. Dead is dead, and even if you become a ghost, the Exaltation will still fly off and attache to another soul.

Also keep in mind that dismantling the titan is not going to be a purely binary affair. it has various "parts" that you can decide to dismantle or keep independently, such as the structure, the flying system, the essence reactor, the main cannon... and who knows what else, you'd need to explore it better. It might still be full of hidden stuff.

So it won't be "destroy titan yes/no" but rather "how do you want to keep it? as intact as possible? take out the parts it needs to fly? take out the main cannon and dismantle it? dismantle everything but keep the reactor intact?" and so on.
>>
>>38492797
All the Solar Exaltations used to be locked up and when THE BAD GUYS broke open the prison half of the shards got away and became normal Solars, the remaining half got tinkered with and are used to make Abyssals and Infernals in the normal game, Infernals aren't in this quest though.

I'd also like to point out that, in case anyone is wondering, Fists of Iron is a prerequisite for many other Dawn unarmed combat charms, if you choose to develop that aspect of Maka's skills.

Also i accidentally gave you 6 Zenith charms instead of 5. Take out Essence-Gathering Temper.
>>
>>38492572
Let me add on to this, since it confused me for a while even though I'm fairly well acquainted with the setting. Deathlords are the ghosts of First Age Solars. While that may make you think they have Exaltations, all their power actually comes from blessings given to them by the Neverborn. They just use the knowledge they kept from being incredibly powerful Exalts to turn that power towards crafting powerful Charms and such for themselves (and is also why the Silver Prince knows how to build First Age warships). When the Neverborn acquired Solar Exaltations, they were twisted into Abyssals and given to the Deathlords to hand out. As ghosts (though ridiculously powerful ones), Deathlords can't use the Exaltations themselves, as they're designed to attach to living humans and no amount of tinkering can change that.

>>38493048
You'd have to drop the secret on the Titan and got everyone to work on it, in order to get it fixed in time.

It can be done, it would just require breaking your promise to Amata.
>>
>>38493048
I'll take this one. I put a post about some of that: >>38492947
Short answer, she doesn't have two parts of her soul. She's a ghost, and is all that's left of her high soul when she was alive. She's what would be left of Maka if she died, lost her Exaltation (which happens when you die), and went to the Underworld. It's a thing that happens to souls. Some First Age Solars used to visit people who had just died in the Underworld before they went to be reincarnated.

Tyrant isn't Exalted, per se, but is as powerful as an Exalt from the power and blessings given to her by the dead Primordials, the Neverborn. They saw her soul come down after the Usurpation and saw a chance for a powerful minion.
>>
>>38493135
It's not something I want to do honestly, I assume if Smoke is this messed up from the Titan being off then taking it apart would kill her, or just make her lose herself even more.

>>

>>
>>38492932
We can't afford YET ANOTHER essence-costing combat charm. It takes almost our entire pool to power up as it is. If it was a permanent upgrade to Solar Hero Style, maybe, but it's not, and so we can't.

We're reaching the point in your system where essence-costing buffs are worthless to take because, unlike vanilla exalted, we're not regaining essence with every action we take.

And no, Essence-Gathering Temper does not fix that.

I'm not saying this to suggest you need to changing, I'm just saying this to let you know that it's never going to happen, no matter what it unlocks.
>>
>>38493179
I'd also like to know why so much trouble went into covering it up. It could have just been that it was impossible to destroy with the resources left after the Usurpation, but there might have been another objective. Especially if the Gold Faction was behind it.
>>
>>38493214
I am actually working at a general reworking of the system. I wanted to "release" it with the one-year anniversary of the quest, but couldn't finish it in time. It should come into use soon enough though, hopefully. Unfortunately lately I haven't had the spare time to sit down and actually work at it, and i have prioritized running threads over hammering at the new system...

Regis is a given, I want to bless Millian too, but I don't want to force her to do anything she doesn't want to either.

Pyre is a pretty strong contender, we've already trained her up as a Tiger Warrior and she's head priestess of our cult, she would benefit a lot from a blessing.

Oh cool, do you think you can make it in time for the upcoming war?
>>
>>38493135
Maybe we could ask our new Mentor? Kidding mostly. Thanks for raising a good point.
>>

>Maybe we could ask our new Mentor?
Actually not a bad suggestion once we get the chance.
>>

Keep in mind one thing: you can't withdraw Kiss of the Sun, and it only applies to five mortals. If you use it on five mortals, and you want to take it back, the only way is to kill one (or make it die, or wait for it to happen).

...I don't want to sound callous, just pointing out how the charm works.

>>38493425
I hope so.
>>
>>38493391
Pyre and Regis are mandatory to bless, with Millian... I'd like that very much, the rest of the Blessings should be withheld for mortals that are impressive in their own right and/or those that would rally even more people to our cause

Yeah, it's something we can't just hand out to our favorites just because.

Hey on the off chance they exalt on their own would that open up a free spot again?
>>
>>38493563
It would.

>>38493383
Ooh, tits. Nice.

>Lightning Speed (permanent, vastly improves your running speed)
Not an honest vote, but I love permanent Charms.

We also still have the option of the Dawn charm that kills armies with our attacks. And probably other charms I'm forgetting.
>>
>>38493549
Pyre is actually someone I'm on the fence about, these 5 will be people we want to go with us everywhere we go, to fights, to Gem, to the underworld and back. So on top of people that are absolutely loyal to our cause I feel like we should be the most important thing in there lives, if we bless Pyre she would either have less time for the cult or less time for us, and we know which she'll choose so we'll need to find another head priest/priestess for our Cult.

I'd strongly encourage letting us regain 1 essence per action, in the same way that 2e gives you essence back for every stunt, and 3e gives you 5 essence back per combat turn. It wouldn't let us spam all of our rad moves non-stop, but it would do a lot to alleviate the very strict limit to the number of combat charms we can even possess, and it would hopefully keep us from being in the super boring realm of 'well, we're out of essence, I guess we have to wait five threads before we can survive being in a fight again.'

The degree to which combat ability is currently based on Twilight charms and the Mental stat due to strict essence restraints and a total lack of essence regen instead of being based primarily around Dawn and Physical is bad.

So, there's my suggestion. Give us essence for doing things. Running dry with no way to recover is boring and awful. The way your system is set up strongly encourages conservative, passive, defensive play instead of active, aggressive radness.

That I think is something we can put off for this upcoming war, it would normally be really useful, but as long as our enemy is a Deathlord we can take out his mooks with Banish the Darkness.

If he has non-dead soldiers we can leave that to our other Exalted friends and focus on where we can hit the hardest.

>>38493531
The Kiss blessing is basically turning them into half castes right?

Does that include life span extender?
>>
>>38493728
Ah, that reminds me of the campaign I played in where the GM ran a custom version of Exalted he had made that removed mote pools. Good times.
>>
>>38493728
To do that, I'd also need to rewrite most charms costing essence to be instant rather than scenelong. Nearly every charm that costs Essence in this system has a duration, which means that once you paid your cost, you have no more expenses, and thus you keep gaining essence that you have nowhere to spend.

>>38493848
Yes.
>>
>>38493135
So step one is asking Amata if we can do it.
>>38493159
The soul she's missing is the feelings one right? Could that explain her not having guilt and stuff?
>>
>>38493728
>essence every action
That would so break the quest if we ever got Adamant Skin Technique
>>
>>38493874
>To do that, I'd also need to rewrite most charms costing essence to be instant rather than scenelong.
Just give them an upkeep cost. (not that anon)

I have a different plan, but I'm still working to smooth it.

Just to tell you that I am aware of the "Essence problem" and working on a fix. Anything else you want me to worry about?
>>
>>38494070
Afraid not (that would make things simple). The low soul that she's missing is the one that animates the body during life. It gets immediately recycled by Creation. She exists as the high soul, a person's personality and identity. She doesn't feel things because the Neverborn did a lot more to her than just give her power.
>>
>>38494070
No, not really.

Her being emotionless doesn't have anything to do with her being a ghost or missing lower soul.
>>
>>38494070
the Low Soul, or P'o, houses the "low feelings", the base instincts. Food, hunger, urge to mate, survival instincts, fight-or-flight impulse, maternal instinct, possession, things like that. The High Soul, or Hun, holds logic, reason, and elaborate emotions like love, appreciation for beauty, desire for entertainment, etc.

Rolled 7 (1d10)

>>38494141
>Just to tell you that I am aware of the "Essence problem" and working on a fix.
Good enough. That is overwhelmingly the biggest problem with the system right now. It's the biggest impediment to play, and seriously unfun any time we need to get into more than one fight per day. The main alternative that I can think of for way, way better essence recovery rates is making way fewer essence-costing charms and way more permanent upgrades to existing charms. I'll withhold any judgement until I get a look at what you've been working on, though.

And the only other thing I'd urge is something like [Social] or [Combat] - or even just [Roll] - on options which will feature rolls, and which therefore benefit from dice-manipulation charms. That's more of a QM-style choice than anything else, but it would really, really help to fix some confusion that's cropped up more than once. It'd smooth out a lot of things, insofar as having to educatedly guess when certain charms are applicable is concerned.

So no, got you. I want to stick the tyrant in charge of a prison/prisoner to see if she can care for someone who is trying to escape but doing that might make me a bad person.
>>38494141
>I have a different plan, but I'm still working to smooth it.
I'll let you work it out then.
I think 4 replys in a row is my record.
>>
>>38494413
I can answer that.

She won't. Might not even bother to pretend.
>>
>>38494486
but it will help her learn to be a better person anon, don't you believe in the power of friendship and love?

No new chara sheet EF?
