[Fate Points: 3]
_

You are Victor Kane, Sentinel Cadet, Savant, and Aspiring Special Forces Team Leader. After walking fellow Cadet and Savant, Ivy Ravel, back to her dorm, you went to find your mentor, Major Bartholomew Cyril. After asking at Administration, and being given a message for the Major by a strange woman, you found him at the Training Fields. While talking to him, you asked his advice for building a Special Forces Team, not realizing that you would have gotten Ivy in trouble.
Thankfully, a quick bluff and some help from Geist resolved that issue. Following up on the Major’s Advice, you meet up with your best friend, Darius Hammerworth, who joins your Squad as soon as you ask. You then evaluate Katrina Leighton, the premier Stealth Specialist of your year. Turns out she’s a massive bitch. Making your way to the Library, you approached the Head Librarian, Lucien, for access to the Archives.

"I need access to the Student Records.” You say. “I'm putting together a team and I can't waste time interviewing every student on campus."

Lucien arches one of his white eyebrows. “You are aware that you don’t have the clearance to access that information, correct?”

You nod. “That’s why Major Cyril cleared me.”

“Truly? Let me check.” He turns to his desk and pulls an older Pokegear out of the mass of books.

Flipping it open, he presses a few buttons and tilts his head. “Indeed, you have been given access. Follow me.” And he walks back between the shelves.

You and Darius exchange glances before following after Lucien. The shelves are generally organized very neatly, aside from the small area around the LIbrarian’s desk, and form corridors that wrap around the room. Ahead of you, you see Lucien step into a stairwell and you speed up so as to not lose him.

“He’s awfully fast for a bookworm.” Darius grumbles from your right.

Stepping into the stairwell, you see the Librarian exit on the landing below you. Rushing down the stairs and the door brings you to the Library’s Computer lab. The machines are arranged in rows and Lucien stands at one near the front of the room, his back to you and typing something into it.

>>
>>37998593

“I’ve logged you into the Archives.” He says without looking up. “Log Out when you’re done. We don’t want anyone else stumbling on sensitive information after all.”

He turns to face you. “Will that be all?”

>Response?
>Action with the Computer?
>>
>>37998638
"Ah, thank you, Lucien."

Begin trying to file through them by what type they're bonded with (I would assume that the Sentinels would document this), and try to find any particularly outstanding cadets.

Start searching with: Wind, Insect, Ghost. (Are these the correct in-universe terms?)
>>
>>37998678

Yes, they are, although the names can vary from person to person and region to region.
>>
>>37998593
>>37998678
this seems good
>>
>>37998638

“Ah, thank you Lucien.” You say, approaching the computer.

Lucien shrugs dismissively. “I aim to please. Goodbye Victor, Darius.” And he walks out the door.

You lean your bow and quiver on the desk and place your sword next to them. Behind you Darius carefully stands his maul up on its square head and sits down heavily in a rolling chair leaning back and putting his arms behind his head. You pull up a chair of your own to the PC and bring up the Archives page. Entering “Student Records, 2033” brings up the full record of students in your year. Clicking on one profile at random shows you grades, course selections, disciplinary tracks, and Pokemon bonded.

First things first, you run a search for a few types, namely Wind, Insect and Ghost. It immediately brings up about half the total class, all under Wind and Insect. You know of two Trainers with Ghost Pokemon but you and Ivy don’t show up on the list at all.

You’re going to need to narrow this down.

Uh... is there a system for, uhm, awards or merits or whatever? If there is, sort it by that. If not, try to sort by grades, I guess.
>>
>>37999406
can we sort by gpa or grade averyage or something? if so do that
>>
>>37999406
I'll go with this.
>>37999475
>>
>>37999406
Search for people within those parameters who have high grades and, hopefully, a good disiplinary report
>>
>>37999406
Look up those with awards or merits in stealth, survival, and lore.
>>
>>37999406
Search using awards and merit like >>37999475
say, and analyze said people's bond.
>>
Man i got so hyped, turns out i got 2 threads to read before i get back here, see ya'll in a bit
>>
>>37999869
I started reading this yesterday, pretty damn good.
>>
I hope we end up with another ghost. That could be our squads gimmick. Extreme recon potential and the ability to appear unarmed are too good to pass up. I'd also like another psychic. Some one from a long line that would actually be a really powerful psychic on there own. It would really help to be able to read minds without a pokemon out.
>>
>>37999884
I would like to find a dragon first or a fire type.
>>
>>37999933
Yeah we probably need fire more then any redundancy I mentioned but, I think a dragon type might be like winning the lottery. Still i think I devoted psychic would be really worth while even if two of us have the type coverage.
>>
>>37999996
if we can get a charmander egg and a charizardite x ring we'll have fire, flying and dragon covered.
>>
>>38000016
Good point, then again, the chance of finding one is really low.
>>
>>38000101
If we get enough money we can buy one from a starter breeder. But yeah finding one in the wild would be hard, we'd need to stake on charizard island or something.
>>
>>37999882
Its probably my favourite quest, almost up to date

Good luck with your depression man, we are all gonna make it. It is said that most writers, poets and musicians made their master pieces thanks too their depression.
>>
>>38000890
I mean a psychic squad mate. Presumably they would have psychic pokemon but, I think an actual psychic person would be great to have. It seems to me having pokemon out is like having a weapon drawn so we couldn't really use their abilities in polite company like a person could. It might really help if we could get psychic abilities on our scout.
>>
>>38001204
Psy trainers get psy abilities in time. Meaning both Victor and Lily will be psys.
>>
>>38001204
Both Victor and Ivy have psychic and ghost pokemon, isn't that enough considering that having ghost pokemon is rare?
>>
>>38001204
I could see them being useful then, yeah. I dunno, let's see how things play out with our current search, and then see how to go about further recruiting.

Anyways, were we to get a dragon, what dragon would you guys want? Though, I suppose, for our foreseeable future, our only option is really Dratini...
>>
>>38001341
Dratini. Maybe a Bagon considering that salamance is probably the fastest dragon.
Or a charmander to get a dragon charizard.
>>
>>38001286
Who's Lily?
>>
>>38001371
The other savant girl im sleepy and mixing up names it seems.
>>
>>38001370
I dunno, I think that if we get a Charizard, it should be to cover at least Fire, without really giving any thought to mega-evolutions at the moment, especially since we don't really have an idea how they work.
>>
>>38001421
char would also cover flying
>>
>>38001286
We'll get them in our lifetime because we are savants but, sleepless said the power accumulates through generations. We'll be an ok psychic in a few decades. I'm wanting us to get a Sabrina equivalent.

>>38001291
Yeah ghost might be way too redundant but, we are looking for scout/recon right know. As far as I know they are by far the best for that position. If we find another scout I'll forget ghost completely.
>>
>>38001440
Sabrina is someone who is a gifted trainer from a very old line of trainers. I'd imagine she's akin to noblity in this world. I doubt we'll get anyone close to her level at this school.
>>
>>38001438
And so would Dragonite, another hypothetical addition to our team.
>>
>>38001440
Isn't scout better for dark types rather than ghost?
>>
>>38001440
Do we know if timeskips are planned?
>>
>>38001483
it is but dark type users are like their mons, assholes usually.
>>
>>38001465
>>38001440
Yeah, Sabrina (and other gym leaders, sans brock because he apparently just became a Gym Leader) are all pretty major players in the world. They (iirc, it may have just been their families in general as well) were essentially warlords, controlling large territories and vying for power before being united by the League.
>>
>>38001471
A Heracross would cover a bug and fighting slot.

>>38001526
Yeah, it's doubtful we'll find anyone like that here. Maybe someone who could become that strong one day but not off the bat.
>>
>>38001518
Who knows.
>>38001548
Heracross has double weakness to flying and a big weakness against dragons.
It does has the megahorn ability though.
>>
>>38001548
I'm honestly a bit hesitant as to giving a slot to a bug type on our team... first, I'd like to know what benefits they convey, and then we can decide on something, like perhaps fire/fighting, to fill that slot, while we get whatever dragon type we want, but at this point I'm assuming it'll be dragon/flying.
>>
Guys planning for pokes isnt gonna work i dont think, we arent really gonna have a choice. Similarly to how we got haunter its probable that we are just gonna get whatever we run into next.
>>
>>38001585
Right now i'm just look for type coverage. of course this could all be moot.

>>38001609
most dragons mons that won't type double up on us are dragon flying, so it'd be a safe bet.
>>
>>38001483
Maybe the question is, is Katrina the typical dark type and if so do we actually want to work with one?

>>38001548
>>38001526
>>38001465

True we won't find a Sabrina but, we won't even be competent for a long time maybe not even in the scope of the quest if we are light on timeskips. Finding some who we can even use now would be good.
>>
>>38001682
Thing is psys are very useful to everyone, i can't see too many that'd be willing to risk life and limb as a sentinel. I guess looking is ok though.
>>
A few things:

Mega Evolutions are highly rare, sparsely documented events. When one occurs it is because the Pokemon in question is reacting to some form of incredible danger to themselves or their Trainer. Most Mega Evolutions perish when fighting these threats although there are supposed documentations of a Y Variant Charizard somewhere in Orre.

Savants will gain abilities from their Pokemon, shortening what would take generations to a few years.

Time skips are on the table but they are contextual and require quite a bit of input from players.

The current Gym Leaders are not all descendants of the original Warlords. The First Champion united the regions over a thousand years ago and the Gym Leaders have switched around a lot since then. Janine's family, for example, has controlled the Fushcia City-State ever since it was founded.
>>
>>38001766
I have a question that has been bothering me.
What kind of special ability do you get if you bond with normal type pokemon?
>>
>>38001646
To be honest, I don't believe Sleepless would outright cock block us like that, especially when he's told us we can buy Pokemon from breeders. Considering the backstory for Geist, I believe Sleepless actually had him planned from the start.
>>
>>38001766

Er, for that last one, I meant that Fuchsia was the exception. A real example would be Lieutenant Surge, who took the title of Vermillion's Gym leader a few years ago.

>>38001823

Normal Pokemon are unique in that they can form bonds with any kind of Trainer. They enhance the Trainer's other abilities but not to the same degree as actually having a Pokemon of that type would bring.

>>38001828

I still can't believe you guys ran into him that fast.
>>
>>38001909
So a normal Pokemon is like a joker?
>>
>>38001942

If we're playing Rummy.
>>
>>38001909
I just realized all our current mons have mega forms. How many can we have out at a time?
>>
>>38001988

As the so-called "Mega-evolutions" aren't very well understood, you're going to have to find that out on your own.
>>
>>38001988
Did you read the post about Mega-Evolutions?
>>
>>38002022
I meant pokemon out at a time.

>>38002036
Yes i did. Depending on how many Pokemon we can have out at a time we might be getting 4 mega running at once. Considering any large threat would more or less cause the same response in all of them.
>>
>>38002084

The limit would be six as there are no restrictions in actual Battles.

In sport battles and Tournaments, the rules generally vary. Single and Double battles are generally how it goes.
>>
>>38002156
All right then. Thank you. My curiosity is satiated.

[Fucking Finally]

>>37999406

You narrow down that search by arranging them by highest grades of the year. The list rearranges itself. The first file on the List is one Keith Thompson. You’ve heard of this guy. He’s popular, plenty of friends, and girlfriends if rumors are true. A real Golden Boy. However, while he’s received good marks in pretty much all of his classes, the file notes that he’s specializing in Combat, Pokemon Training and Law. He’s shooting for Justicar assignments, so he’s not what you need.

Clicking back out, you rearrange the list by highest grades in Stealth/Survival specialities while excluding those below Exceptional. The list narrows down to three entries.

And, would you look at that, Katrina Leighton is at the top of the list. You decide to take a look in her file. Consistent high marks in Combat and Survival with a note that she’s an exceptional Stealth study. However, she has less than average marks in the rest of her classes. Her preferred weapons are a ninjato and several kunai throwing knives.

Under her Pokemon, you see that she has a Greninja named Akatsuki and a Mandibuzz named Flay. Her disciplinary track notes a large number of fights and other infractions. A note added to the bottom says that she’s been diagnosed with “Anti-Social Personality Disorder.” Well, that explains a lot.

You exit her file and move on to the next one. The name on this file is Ryan Blackburn. Opening it brings up a picture of a pale young man with green eyes and swept back brown hair. His features are a little sharp and his mouth is set in a grim line. Looking at his scores, you note that he’s done exceptionally in Survival and Combat and Tactics and moderately well in other topics.

A note under his grades reads “Cadet Blackburn possesses a keen perceptive ability, increased spatial awareness and heightened kinesthesia, all of which are considered to be at peak human level. As his favored weapon is the bow, this makes him an incredible marksman.”

He is also proficient with saxe knives. His disciplinary record is spotless. His Pokemon team consists of a Braviary, Pidegeot and Emolga.

>>38002395

The next person on the list is one Joseph Bryant. He’s a tanned guy with long, spiky, red hair and reddish eyes. He’s proficient in Survival and Combat, just like the other two on the list, but also apparently gifted with Pokemon Training. His favored weapon is a heavy handaxe. He has two female Pyroar and a Talonflame. A note at the bottom reads that he is apparently extremely resistant to heat and has displayed some pyrokinetic abilities. Wow, you wouldn’t have pegged this guy as the sneaky kind.

That’s all of the supposed Stealth specialists.

>>38002430
Well we could interview both Ryan and Joseph, but I'm initially leaning towards Ryan.
>>
>>38002430
Well we wanted fire and I really like the idea of stealth demolitions expert. Lets mark down Joseph for an interview and keep searching for a fifth. What are we looking for in a fifth?
>>
>>38002514
Same he'd be a good scout/stealth person from the looks of it. But let's interview them both first.
>>
>>38002430
Interview Ryan, he is the one that fits best for the spot apart from Katrina.
Try to confront Katrina about her issue one last time, no sarcasm, one to one conversation.
>>
>>38002430
Set up an interview with Ryan and Joseph, yeah. I think our last member was supposed to be a... shit. Anyone remember?
>>
>>38002430
Damn both Joseph and Ryan seem so cool i dont know who i want.
I'd say interview both if possible see about their personalities.
Its either hawkeye or stealth demolitions expert, both have merits but im leaning towards Joseph for his skills.
>Although that means our next recruits gonna need to be some kind of ranged expert to even it out.
>>
>>38002579
DEmo/fortification i think.
>>
>>38002579
survivalist? For foraging, supplies, and living on the road/hunt?
>>
>>38002567
No thanks. I don't want have to be constantly reading her bitching throughout the quest.
>>
>>38002580
Aren't we really good with a bow? As far as I know we are all ready Hawkeye. Also Joseph has displayed pyrokinetic abilities so presumably he is ranged too.
>>
>>38002626
As for now, she is probably the most capable of the three in this area. I would like to get her know better apart from her bitchiness, just dropping her like that left a bad after taste.
It's more like a real conversation eye to eye and private. She might have a problem.
>>
>>38002602
No, we're looking for Recon at the moment.

That said, Joseph would make for an amazing recon. Our last member was supposed to be stealth, but... I assume recon covers that just as well.

Shit, interview them both, and if we can, take them both. I think JoJo would serve well as a second Vanguard like I'd proposed.
>>
>>38002660
We're decent with a bow, not Hawkeye. Also fire is flashy as fuck.
>>
>>38002660
We don't have hawkeye vision, he can pin point anything, we are a jack of all trades, he is a specialist.
Fire doesn't work with scout. It doesn't fit.
>>
>>38002668
Well, that's her problem. We have other options that aren't massive pains in the ass.
>>
>>38002675
Don't we need a survivalist/forager for out of city living on extended missions?
>>
>>38002720
Probably, I just want one last reunion rather than just cutting all relationship with her, not about let her into our team, but more as an external support if we need her.
>>
>>38002623
>>38002733

Pretty sure that Ryan and Joseph are both good at that.

We were looking for Stealth/Recon and these guys cover that. Ryan seems to be better at the Stealth and Recon part while Joseph is proficient with those but has some added firepower. Literally.

We should look for an Engineer or something. Some kind of Specialist maybe.
>>
>>38002759
I would rather have Ryan though.
>>
>>38002759
Yes, engineer would be a really good call.

>>38002754
She was nothing but an asshole to us, i dont care what happens to her tbh.

Also i've decided Ryans my choice.
>>
>>38002759
We also need some who knows all the regions the laws so we can do our job right.
>>
>>38002759
>>38002781
Well, there's not much reason as to why w couldn't, potentially, have Joseph, Ryan, and a tech spec. It's only six squad members, seven if you include Cyril.
>>
>>38002754
She's a bitchy murderhobo and she'd rather work alone anyway. She can just go do her own thing as far as I'm concerned.
>>
>>38002825
Squad is supposed to be 4-5 people with survival and stealth filled we still need law and tech slots dealt with.
>>
>>38002846
>>38002804
I'm this guy
>>38002781
>>38002705

I want Ryan in the team, but I want to solve the bad terms between us and Katrina.
>>
>>38002918
Why? We're not going to have any dealings with her soon. It's not like she's our friend or anything.
>>
>>38002759
I'd really prefer Joseph. I assume we are going to want to have some one with fire on our team period so having him frees up our next choice while also giving us demolitions. Just as personal preference Ryan seems kind of boring. He sounds like the most vanilla scout possible .
>>
So we have:
Viktor
>Squad leader, all round fighter and sevant

Ivy
>Medic, also sevant, dont know much about fighting abilities but as a sevant her pokemon skillz may pay the billz

Darius
>Peak physican condition like holy shit this dudes ripped, will play the vanguard

Thats the only people solidified right? Also what do fate points do again? i see we have 3
>>
>>38002960
Simply because it left a bad aftertaste. And because she could change someday.
I would rather her come to us later due to her realizing something that just leaving her to die alone, she has a problem.
>>
>>38002971
Darius has a blaziken anon.
>>
>>38002991
Yeah, those 3 are confirmed.
>>

Also, in a separate post, what do you search for next? There are Type Specialists, Engineers, and other kinds of Cadets as well.

Fate Points can be spent to automatically pass a roll with flying colors. They can be earned by particularly good bits of roleplay or character development.
>>

While an impressive idea, Ditto is restricted to Pokemon in a local vicinity. It actually forms a pseudo-bond with that Pokemon and reforms itself based on that bond. You wouldn't actually get much from it beyond an overall boost to your abilities. Nothing type specific.

“Well,“ you mutter. “Might as well interview them both.”

A slow rumbling starts behind you and you look back. Darius has fallen asleep in his chair and is snoring quite loudly.

Rolling your eyes, you return to the computer. With your search for a competent Scout probably finished, you decide to look for an Engineer. Engineers are invaluable in the field, capable of performing repairs on equipment as well as operating any advanced technology.

You search for Cadets with an Engineering or Science specialization and then narrow it down to the top students. The Engineering field is already pretty small, and now it’s down to only two Cadets.

The first one is Katherine Clarke. The woman pictured is tall, fit, with pale skin, reddish-brown hair and blue eyes. She’s definitely attractive, and has a great figure. Looking at her scores, you see that she’s a great Engineer, practically acing the course, and has been working on various side projects to help improve Sentinel Field Operations. Engineering is what she’s put the majority of her focus on, but she is apparently still a competent Combatant, preferring to use a heavy mace. She’s actually taken to creating a customized club of sorts that integrates various tools and discharges electrical energy in attacks.

>>38006584

A few of her personal projects include a long range electrical gun, some form of advanced body armor, something called a Exoskeletal Enhancement Suit, and a few variant Pokeballs. Unsurprisingly, she has primarily Electric Pokemon in her party; a Magneton and Ampharos.

The second file belongs to a one Lyn Strom. Amber eyes, blonde hair, an almost delicate face, and a cheery smile. She’s cute. Looking at her scores, you note that she’s really quite good at Tactics and Battle Theory with Science and Technology coming behind those. It appears that she is exceptionally intelligent, managing to specialize not just as an Engineer but as a Strategist as well. Her Combat scores are also quite high, which is unexpected considering her preferred weapons are a heavy combat knife and a spool of wire. You scroll down and learn why.

“Cadet Strom possesses extremely fine electrokinesis.” You mutter.

Apparently, she boosts her nerve signals in combat and transmits electricity down the wires to control them. It’s an extremely remarkable and unorthodox fighting method.

It makes sense that the Pokemon bonded with her are a Jolteon and Luxray.

They both have their advantages.

>Actions?
>>
>>38006628
Let's try to recruit Lyn strom
>>
>>38006628
Oh god, why you do dis.

Lyn Strom because she's cuter
>>
>>38006628
Set up a interview time for Lyn Storm after the other interview is done.
>>
>>38006628
I think Lyn would be the better choice but still interview both
>>
>>38006628
Personally, I like Katherine more.

But I'm a sucker for short hair and tomboys. We want more of a techy person, and she fills that niche better.
>>
>>38006628
Interview both. Lyn seems more complete, but Katherine actually made really good gadgets, a fucking exoskeleton, I would go for Katherine, less cuter, but an actual engineer.
>>
>>38006628
I don't see why we can't interview both. I'm leaning towards Katherine though. Those side projects of hers look pretty damn interesting. Plus Victor is already the team sstrategist. Recruiting Lyn would be a bit redundant.
>>
>>38006628
Lyn has some unique assets to bring to the group, but i feel like if we're going to have an engineer, they should be the top engineer we can find. Katherine seems to be ahead technology-wise, so my vote's for her.
>>
>>38006628
It seems to me that Katherine's skillset requires a base of some kind. If she's going to be making gadgets, it'd probably be better to leave her at HQ. She'll do more good here.

Lyn is a qualified Engi and Strategist with some real impressive combat skills. The fact of the matter is, the Sentinels fight and it's best that we have someone who's damn good at that.

Also, Darker than Black.
>>
>>38006799
I voted for kat as well, but just know that having more than one strategist isn't redundant. We aren't always going to have the best solution to every problem, so having people we can rely on to back us up would be invaluable. also, in situations where we may to to split into groups or send an envoy to lead some kind special team, it would be good to have another strategist we can use. Finally, if we are ever incapacitated or split from the group, we can rest easy knowing another Lyn could take over as a more than competent strategist.
>>
>>38006905
Nah you can suck it, Katherine can handle herself and she gives us nice gadgets to use, I doubt that she would give them to us if she wasn't in our team.
>>
>>38006905
These are the kind of questions we can ask when we interview her. We can also glean the nature of Lyn's technological talents. We have plenty of time to interview everyone before the year's over.
>>

This anon makes a good point.

>>38006941

Interviewing them both seems like a good idea.

Well, you’ve done what you came for so it’s probably time to leave.

Although… maybe you can check your file out.

Bringing it up is as easy as searching your name. Opening the file reveals a picture of you, taken a few months ago when they updated your IDs. Your hair hadn’t been long enough to tie into a tail then, but the rest of you looks the same. Intense blue eyes, grim face, scar under right eye. It’s you.

Scrolling down, brings you to your scores. Excellent marks in Combat, Tactics, Battle Theory and Training. It mentions that you took the History electives as well.

Preferred weapons: Hand-and-a-half sword (Leaf Blade Variation), Longbow

Pokemon Team: Wartortle, Metang, Larvitar

A note at the bottom mentions that your father was Captain Matthias Kane, Sentinel Justicar.

A second note says that you’ve been recommended to lead a Special Forces Team with Major Bartholomew Cyril serving as Commanding Officer.

All things that you already knew, aside from the fact your father was a Justicar. You were hoping for some kind of commentary to let you know what your Instructors really thought of you.

Well, you still have Archive access, there’s gotta be something you can find. You type in “Special Forces” and receive an article from ten years ago on a few squads and their locations. Most of them were in the Orange Islands with one on a ship coming back from Unova. No names are mentioned. You’re surprised this came up at all, considering the fact it looks like everything has been scrubbed.

It’s probably a good idea to find out where your candidates are, to make visiting them easier. You find a locator program and type their names in. The program renders a map of the Plateau and highlights several dots throughout the city. Looks like Ryan is in his dorm, Joseph is in the Market district, Katherine is in the Machine Shop near the Research Hub and Lyn is in one of the Hub’s Labs.

You check the time. It’s 1830 on Monday, May 14th, 2033.

I'd say check out Ryan and Katherine first, Joseph sounds interesting but Darius covers our Fire needs for now especially if he bonds with 1-2 more 'mons. Lyn sounds very interesting if nothing else, even if she doesn't make the cut it never hurts to check her out and keep her on stand by for future missions in her area of expertise
>>
>>38008183

Looks like Ryan is the closest. Standing up, you close the window with the Archive page on it. Behind it, an automated news bulletin shows a few messages.

HOENN: SEISMIC ACTIVITY DETECTED SOUTH OF SOOTOPOLIS CITY. CHAMPION STEVEN STEELHEART IS SAID TO BE INVESTIGATING.

ORRE: INCREASED RAIDER ACTIVITY HAS STALLED SETTLEMENT PLANS. CIPHER CORP ISSUES REQUEST FOR MERCENARIES.

You raise an eyebrow. Hoenn’s Champion investigating an earthquake? A call for mercenaries to come to the most dangerous region in the world? What’s going on out there?

You shake your head and log off the computer. Taking a moment to gather your weapons, you sling the bow and quiver onto your back and belt the sword to your waist once more. Darius remains asleep until you flick him on the nose. He wakes up with a start, looking around wildly, hand going to his maul, before seeing you and calming down.

He rubs his nose and grumbles. “Don’t do that.”

“Come on.” You say as you walk to the stairs. “We’ve got four candidates to interview.”

>[Cont.]
>>
>>38009343

Darius stands up, slinging his maul onto his back with one hand and rubbing the sleep from his eyes with the other. “Four?”

“Yep.” You say as you start climbing the stairs.

Darius catches up with you, standing at your right once more. “Who’d you pick?”

“I figured we needed a good Scout.” You say, stepping onto the first floor. “Two names popped out besides Katrina’s; Ryan Blackburn and Joseph Bryant.”

Darius tilts his head as the two of you walk to the front door, obviously thinking. “I’ve met Bryant. Good fighter, plays well with others. Not the best at Stealth, but he packs a lot of firepower.” Darius chuckles. ”No pun intended. I’ve never met Blackburn, although I heard people say that he’s an amazing shot with that bow of his. He doesn’t miss unless he wants to.”

You wave goodbye to Lucien while walking out the door. “Exactly. Both of them have particular skillsets we can use. We’re heading to Blackburn’s dorm right now.”

Darius nods as the two of you step out into the evening sunlight. The shadows are longer and there are a few people about. Cadets, Trainees, Instructors, they all stream about, each heading to a separate destination.

>[Cont.]
>>
>>38009358

“What about the other two?” Darius mutters, keeping his voice low. You appreciate his discretion.

“I looked for Engineers.” You reply, walking towards the male dormitories. “Found the two at the top of the class. Katherine Clarke and Lyn Strom.”

Darius raises an eyebrow. “I can understand Strom, she’s a powerhouse.” He pauses, frowning. “No pun intended. But Clarke is… weird. Like, crazy weird. She spends all her time in the Hub. The only times she comes out are for Combat Classes, which she uses as stress relief. Just whales on her partners till they give up.”

Huh, well that’s some critical information. “We’re not interviewing her yet. Lets just start with Blackburn.”

“Hey, I’m following your lead.”

Ryan Blackburn’s dorm is on the negative 1st of your building, meaning that it’s actually above ground. The dorms are some of the only buildings on campus to have multiple above ground stories. You and Darius climb the stairs and stop in front of Ryan’s dorm room. Darius looks at you and makes a “go ahead” motion. Raising your hand, you knock on the door.

>[Cont.]
>>
>>38009374

You hear footsteps approach the door and the sound of a bolt being unlocked. The door opens to reveal a young man wearing a black tanktop and blue jeans. He’s got a lean build, except for his arms and chest, which are corded with muscle. He looks at the two of you with confusion.

“Can I help you?” He asks in a low, soft voice.

nope, Psychic type means he can't. especially since Fighting is weak to Psychic

It is possible to bond with a Pokemon if you only share one typing with it, it's just much harder. You really need to work for it. If the other typing is something your Affinity is opposed to (Water for Fire) it's practically impossible.

>>
Anyone have any other fighting or maybe fire types to add in to this list?
>>
>>38010437

Think of it like this:

You are a Type A trainer.

There is a Pokemon that has Type A and Type B typing.

The Type A that you share allows you to attempt to bond with that Pokemon.

If the Type B is something Type A is weak to, then training that Pokemon will get much, much harder.

If the Type B is weak to Type A, then training the Pokemon gets a little harder.

If the Type B resists the Type A, then training the Pokemon gets a little harder.

If the Type B is neutral with Type A, then the difficulty of training does not change.

Example:

Darius is a Fighting type Trainer with a secondary Fire Affinity.

He can bond with Fighting and Fire Pokemon.

He cannot bond with anything that doesn't have that type.

It is nearly impossible for him to bond with a Water/Fighting Pokemon or a Psychic/Fire Pokemon.

It is a little harder for him to bond with a Grass/Fighting or a Fire/Dark.

Additional Note:

Heracross is Bug/Fighting and Darius is Fighting/Fire. The affinities for Fighting match up but Bug resists Fighting thus providing a +1 to Heracross's resistance to being trained. However, Bug is weak to Fire so the Heracross takes a -1 one as well, canceling out the resistance.

Darius would be able to train the Heracross without too much of a Problem.

The Type weakness means that it fears you and it's harder to gain its trust.

Basically, if the total isn't 0 then it's going to be harder.
>>
>>38010970
Ah, now I get it. On one, he fears us, on the other he doesn't feel power from us, so the mix of the two cancel. Heracross was just that really lucky typing that worked that way.
>>
>>38011013
Croagunk's poison fighting would be another 0 wouldn't it?
>>
>>38011098

Nope, since Poison resists Fighting, it'd be a +1.
>>
>>38011124
Thought it was weak to fire nvm.

You decide to be direct.

“You're Ryan Blackburn right?” You begin.

“Yes.” He responds. “And you are?”

“My name is Victor Kane, this is my friend Darius Hammerworth.” You say, gesturing to your friend who gives Ryan a nod. “I'm gonna cut to the chase, I've been selected to lead a Special Forces Team under the command of Major Cyril and I was hoping you'd be interested in joining.”

Ryan blinks, looking slightly confused. “Wait, you want me to join your Special Forces Team? I don’t even know you.”

“Which is why we came here.” Darius rumbles. “To interview you.”

“Exactly.” You agree. “You are the optimum choice for a Scout and Recon Specialist. But before we started talking serious recruitment I was hoping we could discuss some things, get your opinion on this whole thing.”

Ryan looks confused for a second more before his eyes suddenly harden and his posture shifts. “Come in.” He says, his voice no longer hesitant but firm. “We shouldn’t discuss this in the open.”

You briefly ponder the change that’s come over the guy but you follow him anyways, Darius right behind you. The room you enter is practically immaculate, brightly lit by the open windows on the opposite wall. There’s a bed on the left side of the room and a desk on the right. Several shelves are bolted to the walls and filled with boxes. There are several bows hanging from a weapon rack on the wall, along with several quivers filled with different types of arrows and several large knives.

On the desk lie several kinds of arrows, all in various stages of assembly. You recognize some standard arrowheads as well as some bodkins and broadheads, but some of them are completely alien to you. One of them is a spiraling cone while another seems to incorporate springs inside them.

Your attention is drawn away from the arrows by a flicker of motion out of the corner of your eye. A small furry Pokemon jumps off of one of the shelves above your head and spreads its wings to glide over to Ryan’s head. As it lands and begins chittering rapidly at Ryan, you recognize it from the file you read. It’s an Emolga. But it’s so small compared to normal Emolga.

Ryan sees you looking at the Emolga and nods. “Yeah, Emma is kind of small for an Emolga. They called her a pygmy when I took her in to get checked out.”

He pulls a small pellet out of one of his pockets and hands it to the small Pokemon sitting on his head. It eagerly snatches up the offering and begins nibbling on it.

“So,” Ryan begins as he leans against his desk. “I’m not opposed to joining your team. Special Forces is bound to be more interesting than Scout duties. What did you want to ask me?”

Darius shuts the door and leans on the wall next to it, awaiting your lead.

>Response?

what lead to you joining up here?
Can you work in a team environment full of high stress situations and face possible death or the death of your comrades?
Can we trust you to make the right calls when they are needed?
>>
>>38011424
Well how willing would you be to taking orders? What drives you? What are things you like to do? Honestly there are a lot of questions and group chemistry besides. One prospect already got booted because she couldn't even be civil for a few seconds.
>>
>>38011424
>Emolga
"Well I've read your file and have to say I'm impressed, but honestly I'd rather know you through you instead of a computer screen. What lead you to join the sentinels in the first place, where are you from, your team, and anything else you can think of would be a great help. Also, if you're up to it I'd love to see your skills as well as those of your team either today or tomorrow when you have a chance."
>>
>>38011424
How do you feel about working in a group? Are you okay with high risk work? Can you make choices with minimal information and high ambiguity?
>>
>>38011507
>>38011424
>Emolga is about 14 inches tall
damn, so a pygmy one is about the size of a sugar glider or something? that's adorable
>>
>>38011507

You keep saying team. He isn't part of a team, we're asking him to join us.
>>
>>38011543
team as in his TEAM of pokemon, thought that was obvious
>>
>>38011565

Evidently not.

You're better off saying "Your Pokemon."
>>
>>38011593
whatever, maybe squad or partners would've been better
plus my auto correct keeps trying to change Pokemon to random shit
>>
>>38011606
That's a shit autocorrect son. The one in my browser capitalizes it. The one in my word processor even puts an é in it.

tell me about it

Google Docs keeps glitching out on me. I'm gonna see if it fixes itself.
>>
>>38011507
Telling him that we've read his file may very well color his reactions in ways that we wouldn't want.

People don't know what their files contain: we sure as hell didn't. So he'd think there would be more personal information in there than just his grades.
>>
GAH! Google Drive keeps freezing and I can't write properly.

Sorry guys, but I'm gonna have to call it here. I'll try to run again on Friday.

I'll stick around to answer questions for a bit.
>>
>>38012052
aw hell, is our current line of questioning going to work with Ryan?
>>
>>38012104

It's not going to put him off.

He doesn't have Katrina's level of damage.
