'Eh, I can live with the burns, plus, it'll make me intimidate pirates more!' You say with a grin, making Mia shake her head at you.

'You're an idiot, captain, you know that?'

'Aye, I know. But if I wasn't our adventures wouldn't be as fun as they are, would they!?' You reply, still grinning.
---------------------------------------------
As the days pass into weeks, you're slowly getting mobility back in your limbs and face, your arms are numb, and the doc said you mightn't recover feeling in the burned areas, but you still have hope.

You're getting better, luckily you still have functioning eyes, or bounty hunting would be much harder for you! But moving your facial muscles is a task, a task which stretches the skin painfully. The skin on your arms is shiny and taunt, but you can still shoot and aim, thank the gods!

On the dawn of the end of the first week, you feel well enough to go do some target practice. You ask Mia to go down to town to get some paint, and you slowly make your way outside, getting past the doctor while he's distracted.

As you get out of the building, you notice that it's in a clearing surrounded by lush, untamed forest. You make your way out of the clearing, trying to find a good place to do some target practice. Eventually, you find a suitable place. It's nothing special, but it's serviceable.

It's a small clearing, about 20 foot in diameter, surrounded by trees on all sides, mighty oaks, supple yews, and the occasional evergreen.

There's a clear line of sight for about 100 feet going into the forest to one of the mighty oaks, you decide that this'll do nicely.
You make a mental note of where it is and set off back to the hospital.

You find Mia in your room, presumably waiting for you. 'So, captain, where were you?'

'Just scouting out good places for some arms practice,' you reply, sitting down and catching your breath. Man that walk took it out of you!

'Ah, and did you find such a place?' She asks, head tilted to the side studying you.

'Yes I did, a perfect place, actually. It'll even do for you and melee practice.' You respond, chewing the skin on your thumb in thought. 'I think you can attack some trees, if that's to your liking...'

'How gracious of you, oh wise Captain!' Mia bows to you.

As you make your way back to the clearing, with Mia in tow, you strike up a conversation.

'I was wondering,' you begin, talking through your aching side. 'What made you become a marine?'

'Well...' she says, clearly thinking about what she feels comfortable telling you, 'It started when I was a kid. Pirates attacked my village, they killed my father and took away my mother. I was about eight at that time. The village I came from always was attacked by pirates. Well, /pirate/.' she continues through gritted teeth. 'Kebel the Black. That bastard ended up killing everyone I knew. I only survived because my mother was on his ship. That bitch ended up being his wife. The wife of the man that killed her first husband!' she almost yells, clearly in a rage just from the memory.

>Whoa, whoa, Mia. Calm down!
>Let her calm herself down.
>Get the hell out of there before she starts swingin'!

Interfering now would probably just make her angrier, and direct some of that anger at us

You decide to let herself calm down, interfering now probably isn't the best answer, and would definitely get you put on your ass.

She's seething. Beyond anger. Beyond rage. Into something that only resembles sanity.
She loathes pirates.
She loathes the man that killed her father and took her mother away.
She loathes her mother.

After a few minutes, she manages to calm herself down to a state where she can talk to you without wanting to kill you.

'Let's not talk about this anymore.' She says through gritted teeth, clenching her hands at her sides.

You just nod to her, walking on without a word.

As you get to the training clearing, you see everything's exactly how you left it, that is to say untamed.

'Have you got the paint?' you ask Mia gently, not wanting to provoke the rage she felt earlier into coming out again.

'Yeah, I've got it. It's red, if that's alright.' She replies, getting it out of her pack.

'Aye, that'll do nicely.' You say, unslinging your rifle from your shoulder and bringing it to your eye.

'I've got to practice my shooting, you should probably practice your hand-to-hand,' you continue after making sure the rifle hasn't been injured in any way.

'Yes, captain. It never hurts to practice,' she says with a grin. You feel sorry for the tree she chooses.

You make your way over to the tree, picking the paint up off the ground where Mia left it.
Painting a circle on the trunk of a slender tree, you decide to:

>Go as far as it's possible to be whilst still getting a clear shot.
>Go about 50 meters, slacking off's never felt so good!
>Get out your pistols and go as far as their range will take you while still being able to see the tree.
>Get your pistols out and try running shots.
>Slack off completely.

I expect we'll be having to deal with much more melee encounters in the future, being able to flee and attack at the same time is a good idea

'I'm going to go back a ways, going to see how far I have to be to make a clear shot, then improve on it,' you call out to Mia as you walk away. She's already pummeling a thick oak tree. Gods that woman is dedicated!

You count out a hundred meters, then unsling the rifle from your shoulder and take a sight at the red circle. It's a clear shot, you should definitely be able to make it.

You pull the trigger and hear the bullet shoot off toward the target. You take a sight again and see that you've got in the circle, but not as close as you'd like to be to the center.

You walk back another fifty meters, again sighting and taking a shot. It whirls off toward the tree in what seems to be a second. You see that it's again near the center of the circle.

You decide to go a bit further and go 100 meters away from where you were standing.

This should be a challenge.

You're 250 meters away from the tree now, this should prove a challenge!

You take sight for the third time, pull the trigger and hear the familiar sound of the bullet passing through air.

It's on the right on the circle.

'Damn,' you say under your breath.

You take shots of varying distance with varying success. The farthest away you can get from the tree and still make it in the circle is 350 meters, you really think you've improved since you began!
>Congratulations, you're not lv3 Gunman.

At the end of the afternoon, you make it back to the clearing to see that Mia's done a job on the thick oak tree since you last saw her.
By the Gods, it's at least a quarter of the way punched through!
>Mia has risen in level to lv.4 brawler.

'I feel like I've improved from this morning,' Mia's voice echoes your thoughts to a tee, 'I feel stronger and more precise where I strike my blows,' she continues, rubbing her red tinged knuckles.

>Try to get her to open up more on the walk back.
