You huddle up on the upper catwalk of the engine room, overlooking the circle of five Blue Suns troopers surrounding the bundle of six or so crewman, their M-15 Vindicator battle rifles primed and ready.

"Think Janod's right?" one says. A batarian from his voice.

"ECM jamming doesn't just happen," another says, a human this time. "Probably a boarding party on the way. Why not execute the hostages and bail?"

"Still haven't found what we're paid for," a different batarian says. "Besides, every time we kill a hostage our profit margins drop. Worth more alive, remember?"

"Where Cain go? If he doesn't get back from patrolling the hull I swear...," a human says, and you clutch the pistol grip of your Crusader shotgun. If he comes up here looking for either of the men you've killed, you're in trouble...

"Yeah?" one suddenly says, talking into his helmet. "They're here still. No, why? Shit...we'll be right there!"

"What?" a turian asks.

"Boarders on the starboard side. They're having a firefight with second squad. You, you, and you come with me, you two stay here!" he orders, leaving you with only two security guards instead of five as three of them hustle out of the room towards the distraction Breach Team is setting up."

You exhale a sigh of relief. Time to work.

You collapse your shotgun back onto your hip plate and then draw your sword as slowly as you can.

Then you rapidly stand up, place one foot off the rail and vault into a somersault, just as one Blue Sun sees you and aims a rifle at where you WERE when you Warp Step, lightening your body to briefly increase your speed and agility in a flash of blue light, ending up BEHIND him as you swing your monosword just before he can bring his shields up, removing his turian head from his shoulders in a spray of blood!

The other, a batarian, turns and begins to aim his battle rifle and brings up his shields, as you spin and increase the mass of your sword several times over, amplifying the weight and momentum of your Biotic Slash by several times what you can normally swing!

The impact force tears down his shields and hits him just at his midsection where there's gaps in the armor, bisecting him in a spray of gore as his torso THUNKS loudly to the hull!

"Oh God! Oh God!" one of the hostages says, recoiling in terror, the others having similar reactions.

"Hey, hey, hey!" you say, holding your hand up and stepping forward, pressing the side of your helmet, causing the faceplate to rise up and show your expression and species.

It helps when trying to calm people down; your N7 Armor may be highly functional, but that opaque one-way face plate is awfully intomidating from the outside.

"I'm not with them, I'm part of a rescue team," you say, flicking your sword hard enough to remove the blood from it and sheathing it behind your back as you speak. "The other three just left because my backup is on the other end of the ship."

One of the crewman, a human with dusky skin and a black beard speaks up. "Are...you Alliance?"

You shake your head. "No, we're too close to the Terminus Systems here. I'm security from an Elanus Risk Control Services Special Response Unit."

A salarian, looks like an engineer, speaks next. "But we aren't contracted out with ERCS. Why help us?"

"Because you were in trouble and you needed it," you say simply. "And because these slaving Blue Suns bastards got whatever's coming to them."

As I said; this is an alternate timeline, and while most of the canon characters exist, if they show up they won't be the way you remember them, and the ones that show will most often not be primary characters.

Mordin has been mentioned in passing as part of Logan's backstor for instance.
>>
>>37105873

"Do any of you have any clue why they would hijack the ship?" you ask, checking for injuries.

A human speaks up. "Because they're damn mercenary pirates, that's why! They want to grab out cargo and sell us to batarian slavers and the Citadel never helps us because we're human!"

You try not to roll your eyes.
The "woe is me, we aren't the center of our own personal universe anymore" attitude Earth-born humans have a lot is really grating to you.

The salarian seems to think so too. "Oh shut up Ren, we're too near the Terminus Systems for the Council to help anyway. Sir, I think I have an idea what they might be after, but it's just a guess."

"Yeah?"

"We're a shipping company freighter; we haul cargo for a fee based on mass displacement in our hold," he explains. "Most of our stuff on this run is fairly basic, but at least one of the crates is an unknown. It's not on the cargo manifest and the captain kept telling us to ignore it. It's probable that he was paid under the table to keep it quiet from C-Sec when we left the Citadel. Since we're headed to Illium pretty much anything we could have for sale is totally legal there."
>>
>>37106255

"Sholtan, the Captain TOLD you to shut up about it!" the same human says.

"The Captain can kiss my cloaca Ren! We've made the Illuim run before on this route with no problems but NOW we get hijacked the time we start smuggling? I don't buy it!" he says simply.

He fiddles with his omnitool. "Here, the crate number in the main hold. I don't know the combination to the lock but you look like that kinda thing isn't much of a problem most days."

"Okay, all of you stay here and lock the doors behind you; there's going to be firefights going on and I don't want any of you hurt," you say, taking out your shotgun and again and moving towards the door.

"Sure, we can do that," Sholtan says. "Thanks for the help."

"Don't mention it," you say as the engine room door locks from the other side.

You begin stalking the narrow hallway, following the schematics in your helmet, and after a tense minute of checking corners and watching your back you hear gunfire just head.

"This is Infil-1, sitrep!" you say into your comms.

"I've downed two on my infiltration, no major engagements yet," Aeson responds.

"This is Breach Team! Still in combat, the ship has mechs!" you hear over gunfire, which does NOT match the gunfire sounds from up ahead, so who's shooting at who?

You move up and see a side room with the three Blue Suns mercs around it, except two are dead and there's three Loki mechs scrapped a around them. You're about to take a shot when the Sun rounds the corner to take some shots at whoever's in the room and gets his head blown off for his trouble!

You carefully stalk up to the door and you hear a voice speak out from the room.

"If you're still hungry for more, I have plenty of rounds left you!"

"I'm not with the Blue Suns!" you say in response. "I'm with a rescue team from Elanus Risk Control Services!"

"Oh yeah? Bullshit! I was hired as extra security on this ship and I know for a fact we don't contract out with ECRS!" the male voice says.

"I'm guessing you got away when your guards left for some reason?" you ask confidently.

"Kheelah...that explains it. Alright, come out slow!" he says.

"I'm Jack Logan, ERCS Special Response Unit," you introduce.

It's a Quarian in a red enviro-suit with a Vindicator rifle, likely appropriated from his captors before the fight started.

"Kal'Reegar, Migrant Fleet Marines," he responds, a small light showing up on the "mouth" of his suit.
>>
>>37106744
We just found a new party member. Yaaaay.
>>
>>37106744

"So you're not Blue Suns, or at least not wearing their uniform. What's ECRS doing out here?" he asks, not lowering his rifle as your hands stay up.

"We hear the distress signal and sent in a rescue team when we saw the ship docked with an illegal armed vessel. It's mostly just coincidence," you admit.

"Oh yeah?"

"Yeah. My turn; what's a Quarian doing working as hired security?"

"Migrant Fleet trains it's marines damned well. I was finding work where I could. Turns out these guys needed a technical expert who could handle a rifle, and I was it."

"On your Pilgrimage?"

He looks a little surprised, in body language anyway.

"You know about the Pilgrimage?"

"Yeah, I knew a Quarian on one years back."

"Hm....alright," he says, lowering his rifle. "I'll buy it for now. Somehow I'm guessing these Blue Suns guys aren't bright enough to know about it."

"You're probably right; mercenaries and slavers aren't exactly known for their cultural sensitivity," you say with a nod. "So what happened on here anyway?"

"Before or after the attack? Either way it's a real short story. I was performing my duties, routine maintinence checks and all that when the ship got hit with these merc bastards," he says, gesturing at a corpse with his rifle.

"The security was actually doing pretty well holding them off until sonehow they got to the main computer in the bridge and turned the damn mechs on us. Stupid to use more mechs for security then you have warm bodies. Machines aren't reliable."

You can imagine where that attitude comes from at least. Plus he's right.

"Do you know about the unmarked cargo crate?" you ask.

"That damn thing? I knew that was trouble when I first spotted it, nobody what the hell was IN it. I asked the security chief about it and he said 'medical transplant organs'. Bullshit; scanned it for life and bio signs to see if we were shipping people on the sly, and there was nothing alive in there."

"Look, I need to get to the bridge to lock down the ship," you say, pulling your shotgun back out.

"I'm with you then; I'm still on company payroll as a freelancer and that means pulling the Anubis ass out of the fire is my problem too. It'd be easier if we tagged along, seeing as I'll head that way anyway."

"One, Breach," the Breach Team leader responds. "Are you sure that's a good idea? He doesn't know proper hierarchy and chain of command here,"

"Tell the guy on the other end of that line he should worry about protocol and COC when he can make sure his encryption on the comms he's using is worth a crap. I'm already tapped into your communications link without even needing access. The Suns' too," Reegar says, his voice coming in clear over the commlink.

You smile.
The "point-and-shoot man" just hacked into two separate communications channels in less then a minute. Clearly he's smarter then he claims to be.

Are we actually an n7 slayer? Current level/abilities?
>>
>>37108470
Without the trolling dickhead ceral killer part.
>>37108604
Because that was equipment, not a biotic power. Unless you mean Disruptor Pulse, in which case it just hasn't been used yet.
>>37108632
Since I'm running it based on fluff rather then pure gameplay technically he has potential access to all types of Biotic powers, it's just that he has more proficiency with Kinetic Fields and Telekinesis then Spatial Disruption.
>>
>>37108632
I think that's where he brought the palm gun from.

Do we actually have one of those?
>>
>>37108692
Can we spec into phase disruptor next opportunity we get?
>>
>>37108720
Once again; this is closer to the fluff then the gameplay.

In gameplay many characters are significantly differently capable then they are in the fluff for balance and mechanical limitation reasons, especially Biotics in general.

Example; Liara threatens to crush the bones of someone in dialogue with her Biotics, but in gameplay there's actually no way to do that. You can toss people, throw people, damage people with warp, but not "crush him with your mind until he fits into a thimble" as she puts it.

In one of the books when Wrex (a particularly powerful biotic) shows up he actually uses his powers to severely damage a Mako tank by compressing it's mass, effectively totaling it, which of course he can't do in gameplay.
>>
>>37108084

Your trip to the cargo hold is uneventful, but tense as you methodically stalk the hallways.

Finally the cargo room doors open, and you're in a twenty-meter high 500-meter long room filled with cargo crates. Off in the distance you can hear gunfire.

"Two, One. Sitrep?"

"On the far side of the cargo hold, hitting and running! Could use some backup Logan!" he says in between shots over the comm.

"Wilco! On our way!"

"You take topside?" you question, and he nods. He is the one with a battle rifle after all.

He climbs up topside and clicks his omnitool, and on his body glowing orange tech armor appears around him, and you both stalk forward.

Immediately you see him laying down volleys of burst fire at targets up ahead, and around a corner of a crate a Blue Sun appears and plant a warp-boosted slug from your Crusader into his upper torso just as Reegar's Vindicator brings down his shields!

You stalk forward as his backup rounds the corner, blasting another one down with a pair of heavy shots that collapse his shields and torso alike before you plant a single round into the head of a LOKI mech walking beside him, blowing it apart!

CHA-CHAK!

You rack the slide and a glowing-hot thermal clip ejects as you round the corner and begin blasting off shots at a group Reegar has covered, killing one more as he drops two, keeping them too low to move!"

"Frag out!" Reegar says, tossing a grenade into the huddled low group of Blue Suns, and you both turn as an explosion blasts apart their cover and everything else around them!

CHA-CHAK!

You and Reegar keep stalking forward, keeping your opposition forced to divide between attacking you and Reegar or Aeson!

You listen into their com chatter!

"We're holding the team at the starboard but there's some other group tearing us to pieces in the cargo hold! We're loosing people faster then reinforce them!" says one voice.

"Then send mechs, we can't let the larger party get any farther!" comes a response.

"The mechs aren't helping, and we need more of them just to keep the main group tied down, the stupid things can't shoot for shit!" he protests.

"How many are we talking about, we're facing down six or seven in the breach!"

"There MUST be that many guys in the cargo hold, we're loosing patrols there faster then I can track!"

You rack the slide of your shotgun again and the last thermal clip for it ejects out, and you duck behind a small crate, saying "Swapping!" into your comm, prompting Reegar to lay down covering fire as you draw your sword!

"Out! Reloading!" Reegar says as you rise up and Charge the enemy positions, BLASTING into them with your biotic force and then slamming your Nova into the ground to blast them back and recharge your barriers!

You immediately begin going to work with your sword, cutting out the throat of one in front of you and dodging the shot of another just as Reegar puts him down from above and behind you!

You move close to one covered in tech armor and position your body to push aside his shotgun as it discharges past you, and you Biotic Slash, your blade glowing purple-blue as it shears through shields and armor, taking off his head!

You turn, and as one of your fallen foes gets up you kick his leg out from under him just as a burst of assault rifle fire from the opposite direction nails him, prompting Aeson to join you as he sneaks out from behind a crate opposite to you and Reegar, as you sheathe your sword!

He goes back to back with you as you draw your pistol and start firing, and Reegar hops down from his perch after seeing his isolation position and joins you both as you stand in the open area and each cover and angle with massdriver rounds!

After a twenty second eternity you Mozambique Drill a final turian soldier and then suddenly everything is silent, your barrels smoking and each of you pointed in one direction.

You pull back the slide on your pistol, ejecting the glowing hot cartridge as Reegar and Aeson tap out their own from their rifles.

"Aeson Favius. Nice to meet you," Aeson says after a pause.

"Kal'Reegar vos Nara. Likewise."

"Looks like we're clear," you say, but you stay wary and begin looking for spare thermal clips for your shotgun amongst the dead.

"Nice shooting Marine," Aeson compliments with a nod.

"You too. You guys actually ERCS? You certainly don't fight like rent-a-cops," he says, surprised at your competency.

"Special Response Units have a much higher degree of training then a normal security contractor," you explain, though in this case it's true only because you guys are the ONLY SRU team out here....

Because he's basically an orc for his universe but also walking proof that krogan are only the orcs of the ME setting because they ALLOW themselves to be pidgeonholed as such, and he is fully planning on dragging his people to glory and civilization even if he has to do it with them kicking and screaming the whole time.
>Mordin
Because he's a hugely complex character; aged but active, funny yet has some of the most serious and emotionally moving parts of the series revolving around him, a scientist but also a man of faith, a person with enough conviction to help sterilize a species but enough conscience to question the need for it, who's already gone through a great deal of character development in his backstory but actually still goes through yet more in ME2/ME3.

And he can sing.

The hamster already was a prominent guest star in another game, thus he already had all the spotlight needed.

"Kal'Reegar, can you find that crate for us?" you ask the red-suited quarian as you reload your shotgun.

"Sure, it's over this way," he says, pointing his rifle in the direction.

"Lieutenant Logan, are you intact?" Captain Garm's voice says through the comlink.

"Sir, yes Sir. There's a suspicious cargo container onboard that might be the cause of all this fuss," you explain to your CO.

"I see. Exercise caution when opening it. Our area is secured, I'll be there shortly," he responds.

"Roger that Sir," you say, then blink for after a second.

"Wait, how did you get on the SHIP Sir?" you wonder, perplexed.

"With Breach Team, Logan. How else do you think they managed to tie up the majority of the pirate borders?" he asks, as if it were obvious.

"Uuh...copy that Sir. See you momentarily," you say, regaining your composure.

"Your CO sounds a little odd," Reegar says aloud, his turning to you slightly as he walks ahead.

"He's a krogan," you admit.

"Hah! Good one!"

"No, seriously. He's a five century old krogan warlord."

"It's okay, you can just admit he's a bit nuts. There's always one like 'em in any organization, even the Migrant Fleet," he confides.

"Seriously. A krogan. Red skin, gunmetal grey plate on his head, yellow eyes. Probably from Tuchanka."

"This is the one." Reegar says with a nod towards a large black shipping crate with blue lines that is otherwise unmarked. The far end you're on has an automated door with an electronic lock on it.

"Ominous much?" you mutter, and Aeson nods in agreement.

"Reegar, can you open the-" you begin, and he presses his omnitool against the lock and removes it's seal from the door.

"Yeah, that," you say with a nod, bringing up your shotgun and carefully moving closer as the door enters.

It's dark inside, but your helmet illuminates it, as does the light from the cargo bay. It's rows and rows of boxes everywhere.

"Help me out with this," you say to Aeson as Reegar scans them.

"I'm getting....slight eezo reedings from some of this stuff," he notes as you crack open a create.

Inside there's dozens of large metal cannisters about the size of your forearm, one of which you pick up.

You turn it, noticing that the labels, small and unreadable as they are, are in English.
And as you turn it completely over you see a symbol that doesn't need a language to interpret it's meaning.

"Oh shit....," you mutter.
>>
>>37114803

>>

"What?" Aeson says as you look at the cannister then look up at the other boxes inside the rest of the container.

There could be over a THOUSAND of these things in a cargo container this big if that's what every single one of these boxes is filled with.

"What?!" Aeson, says now worried as you put the cannister down and back away.

"There's something toxic in those cannisters," you say.

"Shit! Wait, shouldn't this cargo container be hermetically sealed? We're safe right?" he says, not liking the sound of that.

"It WAS hermetically sealed. We just opened the goddamn thing up..." you say in growing alarm.

Reegar is still calm.
"Look, those cannisters have that warning label on them and look pretty solid, so I don't think we're contaminated yet. I kind of have personal experience with that kind of safety measures," he notes. "You're sure that symbol means 'toxic', not radioactive?"

"Yeah, it's kinda hard to mistake for anything else, you know?" you respond.

"Okay. I'm picking up faint eezo readings, but not much. Eezo's probably used in the manufacture of....whatever is in those things, but it's not enough to be actively radioactive or anything, so we're good I think."

"What seems to be the problem?" comes the voice of your CO as his heavy footfalls thump up behind you loudly.

His armor is COVERED in purple, red, and yellow gore, and in his left hand is a massive single-edged battle axe that must be used on skycrapers back on Tuchanka to prepare for Megaviolent Krogan Christmas or something.

"Captain," you say with a nod.

"Logan," he says back with an identical one.

"So what do we have here?" he asks, looking at the cannisters.

"Some sort of toxic chemical Sir. It's either Earth-manufactured or made for human use by the biohazard symbol on the side," you explain.

"Hm. Contagious?" he asks, picking up and examining the cannister.

"No, they look sealed. The cargo container was too until we open it. Whatever's in there isn't out yet, so we're safe," you say.

"Good. Let's keep it that way. We've already moving the civilians onto the Firewalker, this craft has been irreparably damaged by the pirate craft's weaponry," he explains, turning and placing the cannister back down into the crate.

"Moving them onto the what now?"

"Our ship. 'Say My Name' was a placeholder originally; the onboard VI asks you that when it turns on and some idiot repeated the phrase back to it and it assumed that was it's official designation," he explains.

"Oh. Yeah, I though that was kinda odd...," you say with a shrug.

"We'll collect a sample of this toxin and keep it in containment in med bay and place a waring beacon on the craft to keep others away. We could examine the material at least and determine it's usage later."

A human man in civilian clothes walks up and points at the Captain.

"You can't just ask me to LEAVE our cargo here! It represents hundreds of thousands of credit profits for our shipping company!" he protests angrily.

"Maybe you'd like to explain why your company is shipping toxic chemicals out of the Citadel on unmarked unregistered crates?" you ask, folding your arms.

He blanches and says nothing, but a voice behind you interrupts you all.

"B....bastards!"

Everyone with guns turns and points them at a half-dead human with four sucking chest wounds.

He's holding one of the cannisters on both ends.

You wonder for less a half-second what the hell he's trying to do; he cannister is titanium, and given the chest wounds and huge blood stain caused when he dragged himself over he's too weak to twist such a tightly sealed object open....then the instant is up and you realize he isn't TRYING to open it.

"NO, WAIT!" you call out as some of the troops open fire, killing him and shreddin the metallic cannister! It's dull silvery grey contents have strains of rich eezo blue in them, and they splash over his left less corpse!

"Helmets on, everyone helmets on!" you say, and thankfully everyone there already was prepared for combat, thus wore their helmets...except for the captain of this ship.

"Oh god, oh god! We have to go!" he says, panicking, grabbing Garm.

"Relax human. It doesn't appear to be an aerosol, we'll be fine as long as we evacuate," he says calmly, pushing him off.

"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE THE PROTOMASS-" he begins, but then suddenly his head bursts as a gunshot rings out!

You all turn back to where used to be the corpse of the Blue Suns soldier.

He's not dead anymore, and there's disturbing not-quite-organic looking veins and pieces sticking out of his body. His eyes are COMPLETELY blue, and they glow even in the half-light of the cargo hold. His rifle is in his hands.

"What the fuck?" is all you can say at the sight. You don't have the slightest clue what you're looking at.

"No life signs," Reegar says suddenly.

"What?" Aeson asks.

"I'm telling you I'm getting no life signs from...whatever the hell that thing is!"

Aeson decides to take that as a "weapons free" order and opens fire, planting severl rounds from his Phaeston into his (it's?) torso, perforating it.

It doesn't seem to notice.

Reegar fires a burst of of fire that blows apart it's shoulder, severing it's left arm and letting the rifle and limb fall to the ground.

It doesn't seem to notice.

You raise your shotgun and fire ONE shot, blowing apart it's heads.

It still doesn't seem to notice.

Finally the moment's shock is over and the whole team begins firing on it, tearing the thing apart....as well as sending bullets into the cargo container where the cannister came from as it falls inside of it.

"Oh FUCK," you whisper as more of the silver and blue-veined goop leaks out and somehow GLOMBS onto his body like some kind of playdough, beginning to rebuilt it's broken parts!

As the body violently seizes up and the stuff seems to put it's body back to together in an increasingly warped form, it's thrashing smashing cannisters apart you remember your first thought; maybe a thousand of them.

"We need to go!" you shout, realizing it's true as the no longer fully humanoid thing begins to dramatically increase in size and mass as more of the goop hits it's body.
