You are Shee Hyul, rebel and psychic. Your world is ruled by inhuman creatures and this has gone on far too long, it’s time to fight back.

Alright, if that’s how the feral little thing wants to play it, you lay your rifle down at your feet and wait for just the right mome- here she comes!

As she dives down on you, you step to the side and grab her, pinning her immobile to the roof under your weight.

At least, that was the plan.

It worked right up until the pin her bit; she kicked out at you at the last moment.

[HP 5/11]

Everything is fuzzy.

Why are you lying on your back?
Why does your chest hurt?
What happened?

It all comes rushing back, you must have blacked out when she hit you, damn she hits harder than Dev.

You’re lying on a partially caved in shack roof, there’s broken spars of wood and dented tin around you. You struggle but it’ll take a moment to get out, a moment you don’t have.

She’s crawling towards you on all fours slowly, as if wary of you, or just curious...no, not curious, hungry.

As she crawls in your direction her mouth opens wide, fangs visible.

You can see your rifle a good six metres away.

What do you do?

>>
Ok, so she’s really strong, you found out you can’t wrestle with her. How about toughness? A good smack to the side of the head will knock her out. You hope.

She crawls towards you slowly and you wait patiently, playing dead. As she’s crouched over you, sniffing you cautiously you move, hitting her in the side of the head as hard as you can. She’s rocked back by the blow but doesn’t appear hurt, more annoyed.

Her return swipe at your face has you seeing stars for a few moments.

[HP 3/11]

You manage to not black out as she grabs your arm in her hand, try as you might you can’t get free from her inhumanly strong grip.

Still, you have one hand free, and she is close enough to grab or punch. On the other hand, you think you have a broken rib, and she shrugged off your punch like it was nothing.

I highly doubt he is that physically strong, also, having two vampires duke it out in the streets in Duster Town would have been unhealthy for all involved. Not to mention, if she is really that superior, it would have gotten him killed too.
>>
>>36897533
>You know, the physically powerful vampire with high endurance and regenerative abilities.
You keep saying these things we have absolutely no proof of being true.
We only know vampires are somewhat stronger. We have no idea how much, and how much it differs from vampire to vampire.
For all we know he might be more of a whimp then we are.
And all the reasons for why we didn't want to bring him along still apply.
>>
This isn’t working....

You gather your strength and visualise yourself next to your gun, you’re not half-way through someones roof, you’re next to the rifle Ash bought you, you’re not dying here today dammit! You are next to your gun!

With a lurch you are lying next to your gun, the girl six metres away jumps up in fright, giving you plenty of time to grab your gun and get to your feet.

You bring it around and point it at her head. She doesn’t seem scared, more curious, once again she starts to crawl slowly towards you.

“I don’t want to hurt you girl” you say “please, I just want to talk, say something.” She doesn’t say anything, just crawls towards you like a kitten wanting a toy.

At this range you can’t miss, and its painfully obvious you can’t hurt her with your fists, but maybe a bullet will hurt her. Or maybe you should leave and catch her later, when you have allies with you.

They're still stronger and tougher than any mortal.
>>
“Sorry kid” you say as you gently squeeze the trigger, the rifle kicking against your shoulder.

The bullets tears through her wing and she screams in pain, flapping it and scattering droplets of blood everywhere.

She backs away from you, eyes full of fear, and then sprints for the edge of the rooftop and leaps into the air, only her bleeding wing won’t support her and she hits the ground, hard.

The dusters are wisely staying in their shacks for now.

She scrambles to all fours and races off into the night, damn she’s fast.

You’re wounded, and she seems almost invulnerable, leaving it here might be a good idea.

On the other hand, she’s a wounded animal, if left alone she might attack someone else.

The Gouger is the killer look for. The gouger always kills. The only confirmed attack from her didn't get killed.
Then we found a victim of the gouger, that had only its blood drained from the side that was still accesible after he had been killed, clearly showing she didn't kill him and only fed from that corpse after the gouger had killed it.

Vampires drain to feed, not to kill. He survived because a vampire bite doesn't usually kill it's victims. That doesn't mean she isn't completely feral at all.

You’re not letting her go that easily, you take aim at her leg as she scampers away and shoot again, the rifle slamming back into your shoulder, a familiar pain.

Your shots tears through her leg and she screams again, tumbling to the dusty floor in a tangle of limbs. She’s quickly up and making a slower escape on three limbs. You prepare to fire again and she scoots around a corner, dammit you can’t lose sight of her, she could escape!

She’s out of your line of sight, from what you can see from here you think she’s running into a dead end, maybe. But even if she is, she might be able to climb up walls or find a small gap to squeeze through, she’s not gone yet.

It depends entirely on how feral vampires work in-universe. It might be irreversible. Sometimes humans turning feral can't be reversed, I can't recall why. I also doubt our ability to fix her, assuming it's even possible, without something horrible happening.

You run across the rooftops, cursing the pain in your side with every breath until you’re standing a rooftop, looking down on her.

She’s at the end of the alley, looking for a way through, scratching at the walls like an animal. Then she turns to look up at you and growls, it might be cute, if she wasn’t so dangerous.

She stays where she is, her growl getting louder and then a burst of white light knocks you backwards, you stumble back.

A young girl rises out of the alleyway, her wounds healed and her wings working. She’s dressed in some sort of silver archaic armour and holding a flaming sword. Above her head blazes a halo, shining like a star.

You feel a very strong desire to kneel.

“What on Teratiums name are doing?” demands the young angel “Why are you shooting at me I didn’t do anything to you....”

Her voice trails off and her eyes roll back into her head and she falls to the ground. You inch forwards and you see the young feral vampire girl you fought lying in the alley unmoving. You wait but she doesn’t do anything.

You very carefully lower yourself to the ground and approach, ready to teleport or shoot if she does anything. She does nothing.

Finally she stirs, her eyelids fluttering and then she wakes up, looking around her, her wounds are healed, she spots you, and you raise your gun out of reflex.

She looks at you, her forehead wrinkling in confusion “Why are you pointing a gun at me?” she asks, and then looks around “Where is this?” she looks at you “Who are you?”

Around you, you can hear doors opening, oh sure now the dusters come out.

You’re not sure this is a conversation you want to have out here.

>>
“I’ll explain” you say to the young girl “But not here, we need to get you someplace safe.”

She just stares at you for a moment and then nods slowly. She screws up her face in concentration and you feel a buzzing in your skull. The wings on her back aren’t there anymore, no wait they are, you can still see a faint outline if you stare hard enough.

“I’m Shee” you say.

“Lirael” she responds.

You lead her out of the alleyway and towards the curious crowd that is gathering. They look at you, and Lirael, her injuries are healed but she’s still stained with blood, and you look obviously injured.

“I was hunting the Gouger” you tell the crowd “it got away but I saved this kid.”

Your explanation seems to satisfy the crowd and you get congratulations and pats on the back, though some cast fearful looks at the rooftops and go indoors as the two of you walk away, you hand on Liraels shoulder. No one seems to comment on her having wings.

As you leave she asks “What’s a *Gouger*? And please stop staring at my wings, you’re making it harder to hide them.” She doesn’t seem bothered about following a stranger.

“When we’re safe” you say. You have a strong headache building up and by the time you’re back at your shack the adrenaline has worn off, your ribs and head hurt like hell and you really, really need a little pick me up.

You sit down on your pallet, Lirael takes the only chair, more of an overturned crate really

You explain about how you found her, and what the Gouger is.

“Sorry for shooting you” you apologise.

“That’s ok” she says with a smile “I don’t remember it, and it looked like you needed to anyway.”

“Yeah maybe” you agree, your head still pounding “Anyway, what’s the last thing you remember?”
>>
Lirael cocks her head to one side and looks thoughtful. “My parents and I were on a ship” she recounts “A starship, we travel a lot, some pirates attacked and when they said some rude things to mummy, daddy pulled them to bits.” Her face takes on a look of fear “But there was one of them, the hunters with the pirates, and he did something and we all fell asleep. When I woke up I was in a metal cage, and the bars were...funny, I couldn’t bend them and just touching them hurt. I was taken to someone, a King Ordain I think and I was kept in a cage for days, they wouldn’t feed me and” she sniffs, starting to cry a little “I woke up in an alley, Shee I don’t like it here, I want my mummy, what happened to my daddy?” she looks up at you, her face screwed up and red, tears pouring out of her eyes.

Are there any animals in the Duster Towns, strays and such? Or just outside town?
>>
You push down your own discomforts and open your arms to the kid “C’mere” you say, she eagerly rushes into your arms and you hug her, gritting your teeth at the pain in your ribs.

“It’s alright, it’s ok” You murmur to her for several minutes and rock her until the tears die down.

When she’s calmed down a bit you talk to her quietly, still holding her close “I don’t know what happened to your parents Lirael, but I’m going to help you find them, ok”

“K” she says in a small voice. As you wonder how exactly you’re going to do that, Lirael shifts in your grip and you feel her teeth graze your neck. A familiar thrill races through you, before you remember where you are, and what’s happening.

“Woah, woah!” you say, struggling “Stop that!”

Lirael pulls back and looks you in the face “What?” she says, confused “You like being bitten, you’re hurt and I’m hungry, oh wait,” she nods at the floor where you stash is hidden “Do you want some of the silver powder instead for the pain?”

“What?” you say confused “Are you, are you reading my mind?”

Lirael cocks her head at you “Mummy said if we got separated, I should only listen to people I *know* I can trust. I know I can trust you” she says with confidence.

Ash would turn her in for the massive bounty on her, maybe wait til we can convince him otherwise?

I'm not sure he would intantly do that. I don't think he is that much of an asshole.
My concern is more that the line we are using is explicitly not safe, and they are probably looking for her.
More than that, we don't know how safe Ashs mind is up in the Hive.

“Please don’t read my mind Lirael” you say “It’s rude.”

Lirael looks conflicted “I know you don’t like it” she says “But Mummy said to be sure.”

“And do you think you can trust me?” you ask, your vision is going a little grey and right now thinking of anything but a drug or bite fix is getting difficult

“Yes” says Lirael slowly “I think I can.” And just like that your headache begins to fade.

“Your head is a mess” says Lirael “You should see someone about that.”

“I’ll get right on that” you say “After we get you something to drink. I think Gabbin still has some goats.”

“Animals?” says Lirael, screwing up her face “yuck.”

“Well if you’re not that thirsty...” you say

Lirael sighs “Ok” she says “Where are they?”

You sometimes buy milk from old man Gabbin and he lets the two of you into his goatshed for a few credits to *let the little girl pet the goats*. If he’s curious about her wanting to see goats this late at night, he doesn’t say anything.

Once you’re done you head home.

“Animals are tasteless” complains Lirael

Ok, time for life’s harsher lessons “Lirael” you say “Given a choice between tasteless and hungry, which do you prefer?”

“Tasteless” she grumbles “But why can’t I just feed on you?”

“Because” you say as you lead her back to your shack “I’m hurt, and other reasons too.”

“You miss Ash” says Lirael once you’re both in the safety of your shack “Do you love him?”

“No more talking” you say as you grab a pinch of dust, lie back on your pallet and inhale, ohhh yes...best painkiller ever.

As you drift away you hear Lirael saying “Good night Shee.”
---
>>
The next morning you walk up in your shack with a tiny winged girl hugging you. What?

Then you remember everything. You gently untangle her arms from you and stand up, wincing at your still tender side, still at least a night sleep did you some good.

[HP 4/11]

You’re really not in a fit state for the mission tonight though, and someone needs to look after the snoring little darling.

Probably right. But I will be mad if we lose our job.
>>
>>36899797
Probably better we tell one of our Allies though, people who are actually easily reachable for us, we need someone who can look after her at some point, and we can't send her up into the Hive for that.
>>
>>36899797
What he >>36899820 said.
Although I have to say, realistically speaking, at some point in the future we will most likely have to tell him to avoid jealousy episodes.
>>
>>36899820
He's our oldest friend and a vampire. He'd probably be the most helpful.
>>
>>36899797
>>36899866
Most helpful, or potentially most harmful. He is a member of the species that put a giant bounty on these angel vampires. So even if he's on our side telling him might not end up the best for us.
>>
>>36899886
Jesus fuck you nazi, just because he's a vampire doesn't mean he shares the ideas and everything else of his entire fucking race
>>
>>36899886
>He is a member of the species that put a giant bounty on these angel vampires
What. How does that make him the biggest risk for knowing?
>>
>>36899886
Helping her at all might not end up the best for us. What happens the next time she goes feral? She almost killed us once already. Ash might be able to help her control herself.
>>
>>36899866
No he wouldn't, because he is up in the Hive far away from us for pretty much all the time.
No matter how helpful he would like to be, the circumstances simply limit his helpfullness in this matter.
We can't send her into the Hive for Ash to look after, nor can we call him down here to help us with her. The majority of time, our Duster allies will be what we have.
Additionally, while he personally might be trustworthy, he is sorrounded by mind-readers and a lot closer to the fey.
He might not willingly sell us out, but he is also more vulnerable to unwillingly doing so.

I mean, we might be able to use his advice on dealing with Loli vampires at some point, but physical aid, will probably not be possible for him.
>>
>>36899921
For that he would have to be around. Which is something we simply can not reliably arrange.
>>
>>36899951
He's not locked in that ivory tower. I think all we'd have to do is ask and he'd find a way to help.

But I'm clearly in the minoritu so, whatever.
>>
>>36899994
Him coming over here often would draw attention, plus he's a vampire which would cause bad things for us if he got found out. At least with the girl we can say we found her and she's helping us hunt the gouger.
>>
You fire off a quick text to Ash

-I’m fine, couldn’t find the Gouger though-

He doesn’t respond, maybe he’s still mad at you, or maybe he hasn’t woken up yet.

You slip out whilst Lirael is sleeping and ask a friend to tell work that you’re not well, and then you return to your shack, and simply look at Lirael as she sleeps you mind whirling, trying to figure out what to do.

Eventually Lirael stirs, looks around blearily and spots you, you feel a familiar pressure building behind your eyes.

“Lirael” you say in a warning tone “quit it.”

“Sorry” she says, looking embarrassed “I forgot.”

“Try and remember” you say.

“What’s for breakfast?” asks Lirael, yeah vampires still need to eat, and small as she is, the goats should be enough for her need for blood, for now at least.

You take her with you to the local breakfast shelter, to anyone you ask you just say she’s your cousin, Lirael doesn’t contradict you. She really doesn’t like porridge though, and complains a lot, not eating much of it at all. Well, when she gets hungry, she’ll learn.

She also manages to get on your nerves by greeting completes strangers by their first names, you manage to brush it off as you telling her all about your friends and neighbours. Apparently she only decided to stay out of your head, not other peoples.

You head back to your shack to rest, you’re still not feeling well, Lirael follows but quickly gets bored, and starts examining all of your possessions.

Then there’s a knock at the door.

“It’s Charun” says a voice, it does sound like him. “Heard you weren’t well, came to see you.”

He probably wants to see if you’re fit for the convoy mission tonight.
>>
>>36899994
>He's not locked in that ivory tower.
He kinda is though.
Both insofar that his coming down here can attract attention, and that he is at risk being down in Duster Town.
We should not put all our eggs in one basket, it would be prudent for us to build relationships and trust with our allies in Dust Town, because they are close at hand.

As I said before, at some point, we most likely will have to tell him, but that should be under the safest possible circumstances and as much as we can tell without endangering us, him and Lirael.
>>
>>36899994
He's not locked in a tower, but we literally just told him we don't want him to come to dust town because of the problems it would cause. Now that we've found an 'illegal' vampire we just change our mind and expect him to be there whenever we need him?
I'm not sure about you, but that would make me annoyed if I was in Ash's shoes.
>>
Lirael looks towards the door, then her face drains of colour and she hides behind you, holding you tight “Noooooo” she whimpers “nononononono, Shee he’s bad, he’s sooo bad!” She’s obviously terrified.

Are you sure it’s Charun at the door?

“Edgewater Spring is how far?” you ask through the door, using a challenge code Charun taught you a few weeks back

There’s a pause then he answers “Only thirteen clicks past Watchover Point, but you really should take the low road, is now a good time, can I come in?”

He’s given the correct response, and even asked if you’re in danger

Lirael shakes her head furiously.

“I’ll be out in a moment” you yell. To Lirael you say “hide somewhere”. She looks around frantically at your tiny shack and then hides under your blanket. You roll your eyes, great, if Charun sees the lump he’ll just think you had a boyfriend stay the night.

You check your comlink, there’s a reply from Ash

-Glad to hear you’re ok. Just text me if you need something, if I’m not weak to help you that is- Ash still sounds mad.

You go out to meet Charun, closing the door behind you.

“You ok?” He asks

“Yeah” you say “Just not 100%.”

Charun doesn’t look happy “I need you fit for tonight” he whispers angrily “What happened?”

“Went hunting the Gouger” you say “Got a little beat up.”

“Dammit Shee!” says Charun in a harsh whisper “I told you to rest.”

“I’ll be fine” you insist “I can still shoot, just put me somewhere away from the fighting, I’ll be there.”

Charun snorts “Ok, if that’s how you want to do it” he says “You’re the best shot anyway, but for today, rest!” He stalks off. That’s not a bad idea actually.

But as for Lirael...you mull it over as you go back into your shack, Lirael is still buried under the covers, shaking.

What to do with Lirael whilst you’re away that evening?

Toughness might be alright, I think a 1/2 chance to nullify attacks, 1/2 area damage and being able to move freely without provoking AoO might be better. Also phasing.

>>36901028
I still exist, I just don't usually adopt the name because newfriends that didn't play PoJ might get mad at me.
>>
How old are we again?
>>
>>36901059
17.
>>
>>36901059
17

>>36901046
He figured getting some more HP might be good anyway, you can never dodge everything and a HP padding of 5 for 4XP seems like a good deal to me. Didn't pay attention to the Skill rankings sry, I always go with a d20 mindset.
>>
>>36901095
It would definitely be a boon. Really, it depends on if we get the 5 HP added to our current HP, or our maximum HP, and, if added to maximum, whether we'll be fully healed by tonight or not.

>>36900938
Answer above concerns, please.
>>
>>36900746
>She’ll stay somewhere else (where?)
I guess leaving her with Ash is the best option, he is not only a vampire but also is he a rich vampire. He will know how to treat her.
>Ask her what she saw in Charuns head
I kind of trust Charuns he might be our father
>>
>>36901157
>I guess leaving her with Ash is the best option
Its by far the worst option because it means bringing her up into the Hive. And thats the last place she should be.
And considering he is mad at us right now, springing a illegal vampire on him out of nowhere is a pretty huge dick move.
>>
>>36901135
Current and max hp but no full healing.

On phone and will confirm in next thread.

Pallie
>>
>>36901135
The benefit Toughness has over Blink is that we can take Toughness and Negotiator. Its a bit gamey to get Negotiator when having a fellowship of 8, but there it is.
We might actually go better with Commander, but I don't think I get people convinced to rely more on their allies anymore after their less then stellar performance sofar.
>>
>>36901180
>Its by far the worst option because it means bringing her up into the Hive.
We can have Ash dick around outside the hive in a car or something anon
>>
>>36901261
>anymore after their less then stellar performance sofar.
You mean in the prologue chargen which was confirmed by Pally DM fiat-ing them into useless sods?
>>
>>36901290
....Ok, lets leave aside what a really stupid request that is, and how it not at all adresses the problem of springing a illegal vampire on him.
"Outside the Hive" means, in Dust Town. People would also wonder what he is doing there. And he got a life too you know? He has to go to his university or hwatever he goes to.
We can't ask of him to suddenly put his life on hold for someone he hasn't seen in three years. I doubt he is desperate enough to play along with that kind of shit.
>>
>>36901332
Yeah those guys.
Not sure how many people realise that, so they kind of got a mark against them in that regard.
I'd be happy if we would from now on work together with them more and actually use and rely on our allies for once in this quest. That'd be really great.
I just don't think people will.
>>
>>36901352
The mission is going to take at max half a day, it's not going to be that serious
>>
>>36901258
>>36901135
Could we get back to talking about the relevant things, like our survivial?
This answer makes Toughness a attractive purchase for us right now, and I would like to get more opinions on getting Negotiator or Commander, despite the obvious gameyness of the choice.
>>
>>36901431
Probably the later half of the day, where his freinds will wonder what the hell he is doing. Especially that Quinn guy we got explicitly told is keen on finding ways to fuck with people.
And there is still the problem of dragging him into our conspiracy against the rulers of this planet.
>>
>>36901258
In that case, definitely Toughness over Blink.

So,
>Toughness +1 (1, 16 HP) -4 XP
>Negotiator +1 (1) -2 XP

Does that seem alright to everyone?

My internet died for a bit there.

>>36901442
Negotiator is just more versatile than Commander; it governs a far wider selection of situations.
>>
>>36901514
>Negotiator is just more versatile than Commander; it governs a far wider selection of situations.
I know, I would just prefer commander is being slightly more in line with our characters behavior sofar. She hasn't really shown herself to be much of a Negotiator, so that feels kinda weird to me to purchase.
>>
>>36901514
I'm in agreement

>>36901533
Crunch doesn't equal character.

And how many times did we try and talk to Vampire girl? What did we try and negotiate with Ashley? Come on anon

We're hardly a commander either, nearly nothing we've done has been giving people orders
>>
>>36901514
I'm okay with it, despite my concerns.

>>36901613
>Crunch doesn't equal character.
It should be the mechanical underpinning of the existing character though.
And we did not succesfully negotiate with the vampire girl, nor with Ashley.
Our telling Rainiya to attack was closer to sucessfull commanding than we ever got to sucessful negotiating.
>>
>>36901514
I would prefer deception, actually.
>>
>>36901514

Let's save the Negotiatior's XP for something else.
>>
>>36901640
>>36901514
Okay scratch that, I'm still okay with Toughness, obviously. But
>>36901667
>deception
Sounds pretty good for us. We will have to lie our ass of quite a bit in this quest.
And lying will probably be more often in situations that we can't afford to fail then negotiating will be, even if negotiating applies to more situations, it still relies on the person being willing to be negotiated with, while lying doesn't.
>>
>>36901640
You can be a negotiator and not be successful asshat.
>>
>>36901751
Why are you so agressive?
Calm down kid.

And no, if you never sucessfully negotiate, specialising in negotiating is a bit weird.
>>
>>36901514
Sure, that sounds great AA
>>
>>36901781
No, it's not?

It'd be weirder if we chose deception considering we haven't been lying at all throughout the quest.

Not to mention, what happens when you fail a lot? You tend to improve, which is exactly what's happening here.
>>
>>36901514
its cool i can work with that
>>
>>36901802
>, what happens when you fail a lot? You tend to improve
What? No?
You don't improve by failing a lot.
You improve if you keep trying and then you start succeeding more and more.
You don't get better just because you kept failing.
>>
>>36901826
>You improve if you keep trying
Exactly!
And we've kept trying, and now we're seeing returns. Easy to grasp huh?
>>
>>36901861
There is a difference between "you start getting less completly shit" and choosing a specilisation.
The return we should be seeing would be an improved Fellowship score.
>>
Okay, lets stop pretending this makes any kind of character development sense. Because it doesn't.
The important question is, which will we need more in situations where we can't afford to fail. Really can't afford it. And Deception fits that bill a lot better.
>>
>>36901903
It's an improvement, I don't see the fucking difference here. I don't see what you're whining about either, since everything else you want to vote for doesn't make shit all sense with your logic either.
>>
>>36901667
>>36901746
I can't really think of many situations where we've lied, either.

Negotiator covers general diplomacy, not just negotiation.

Deception requires a believable lie or deceit, not always an available option, and I don't see any situation where a lie would work on someone unwilling to negotiate at all.

I consider situations like that talk with Ash about why he couldn't help us to be situations I really don't want to fail.

>>36901781
We aren't really specializing, it's just one rank.
>>
>>36901957
No, it doesn't? Even AA thinks it doesn't.
Why the fuck do you have such an anti-negotiator boner?
>>
>>36901987
>I can't really think of many situations where we've lied, either.
No, the point was, if we already take something that doesn't really fit our characters behavior very well, we might as well use whats most mechanically useful.
And Deception would cover such cases as being interrogated by our friendly police state security, who would not respond to diplomacy very well, but we can attempt to lie to them.
The situation to Ash, is unfortunate, but not a danger to our survival.
>>
>>36902033
But negotiator is more mechanically useful, and fits our character.
>>
>>36901987
>and I don't see any situation where a lie would work on someone unwilling to negotiate at all
If someone who isn't willing to negotiate asks us a question we don't want to answer truthfully.
Someone can be willing to talk, without being willing to be convinced by any argument.
>>
>>36902033
I think the entire fact we can teleport and shoot gud prevents us from being arrested. Mind displaying any other situations where lying could help?

Because I can't, at all.
>>
>>36902061
No it doesn't fit our character. Our character is a cynical recluse as far as we have her right now.
>>
>>36902064
Which is a tiny, tiny percentage of the time. Where all of our OTHER stats would have failed us, which is why we're dumping most of our experience in those stats and not fellowship
>>
>>36902084
Because running away is not always an option?
Its not about being arrested. You can be asked questions without being arrested, you don't want it to come to the being arrested part.
Everytime we do something and someone asks us what we are doing or if we know something we don't want that person to know Deception is useful.
Like for example when our friendly rebel leader asks us who that little girl is.
Lying to him about her being our cousin will have a lot lower DC then convincing im that the loli vampire is no danger.
>>
>>36902098
>Cynical
Debatable
>Recluse
Seems pretty sociable to me, being a receptionist, perfectly capable of partying, talked with Ashley normally and now remains in regular contact AND tried to talk with the loli throughout the entire thing.
>>
>>36902135
>Debatable
Its literally in the character sheet.
>Morality
>Hope 2
>Cynicism 3
>CYNISM 3!
Seriously, you are just grasping now.
>>
>>36902132
>Lying to him about her being our cousin will have a lot lower DC then convincing im that the loli vampire is no danger.
Instead we could say "It's none of his business" and it falls under Negotiator.

Wooooow. It's like I used my brain or something.
>>
>>36902135
Yeah, thats why we have literally no friends except that guy we used to know three years ago.
The fact that she obviously can talk to people just fine and can be sociable, but obviously doesn't have any close friends, makes "recluse" pretty likely doesn't it?
>>
>>36902174
Yeah sure, making him even more suspicious instead of resolving the question right there would totally help us. Brilliant.
>>
>>36902159
We're also hope 2, seems like we're pretty even to me on that scale.

Besides, the fact she's cynical doesn't mean shit about negotiation

>>36902197
A recluse is a person who lives in voluntary isolation, considering how we work and everything else, no, we're not a recluse.

Yes, sure, we don't have many friends. That doesn't make us a recluse.
>>
>>36902098
You're probably going to gain a point of Hope for your behavior with the vampire girl.

>>36902033
Okay, that's a situation where lying could be better.

I can't really think of many other situations that would work with Deception that wouldn't with Diplomacy.

If they're really a danger to us, lying won't help, they'll just rip apart our mind to find what they want. Which is why Psychic Shield is kinda important.

>>36902132
>Lying to him about her being our cousin will have a lot lower DC
Possibly a higher DC, since he probably knows our family and she doesn't have any family resemblance. I'm also pretty sure he'd be suspicious about why our cousin, who would have come from our Hiver family, is now living with us in dust town.
>>
>>36902233
>That doesn't make us a recluse.
But it clearly makes us a person who doesn't like to seek out other people for socialising.
And therefore a not very social person.
Hence our Fellowship malus.
>>
>>36902220
Yeah, I know right? Because negotiator will bring the DC down to make him not suspicious.
>>
>>36902251
>since he probably knows our family and she doesn't have any family resemblance.
The cousin was an example, because thats what she told the Dusters in the story. I would prefer some sob story about a Hiver co-worker or whatever having gotten killed and their orphaned daugter or some shit. But my point was clear I think.
>>
>>36902269
If we make a sucessfull roll on "Don't bother me about it", that will just make him stop bothering us about it.It will not make him any less suspicious about our unwillingness to answer his question.
>>
>>36902260
Yeah. Now guess what? It seems like we're changing and making friends everywhere, like the loli, Ashley and the rebels!

Wonder if there could be something to show we've advanced along those social lines where we've had to negotiate things.
>>
>>36902315
Except for how we made none of these contacts with negotiating.
>>
>>36902335
Aside from the negotiation with Ashley about the feeding, the negotiation with Ashley about going along with him when he didn't want us to, you know, all of those things Negotiation would apply to.
>>
>>36902355
>Aside from the negotiation with Ashley about the feeding
We didn't negotiate there. And it didn't build our contact to him at all.
We tried to convince him to not be mad, and it actually damaged our relationship.
>>
I don't care about your shitty in character out of character arguments, but look at it this way:

Deception will be infinitely more useful for dealing with hostile forces

Negotiation will be infinitely more useful with neutral and allied forces.

Now, thing is, I thought we got good at gun so we didn't have to talk to our enemies.
>>
>>36902385
Sadly a lot of our enemies outclass us apparently by a huge amount. So Deception would help us a lot there.
Especially up in the Hive we can encounter a lot of people we can't just shoot, but need to deal with verbally, and in many of these cases deception would help us more.
>>
>>36902384
>and it actually damaged our relationship.
Bit of a hyperbole there anon.

>We didn't negotiate there.
We put forward a deal. We wanted to get clean off of drugs then consider getting fed off of by him. He accepted.

Negotiation!
>>
>>36902421
>We put forward a deal.
No, we did not put forward a deal.
We do not need to negotiate his feeding on us.
He asked if we would let him, and we said no, and told him why.
There was no persuasion needed there, because he wouldn't have just bit us if we would have not told him a reason.
>>
>>36902416
Well yeah. That's why we should like, run the fuck away instead of talking to them right?

>Especially up in the Hive
Why the fuck would we be in the hive? I mean, we've only been once, and that didn't even need any fellowship checks
>>
>>36902453
>He asked if we would let him,
No he didn't Anon. Are you actually reading this quest?
>>
>>36902454
>That's why we should like, run the fuck away instead of talking to them right?
Because we can't always just run away. Not everything is a combat encounter.

>Why the fuck would we be in the hive?
Because we work there. So we kinda go there ona daily basis.
And we have to go there even more often if we want to do something with Ash.
>>
>>36902483
No, he asked if we wanted him to if you want o be pedantic about it, it doesn't change the fact that we didn't make any deals. Because there was nothing to make a deal about.
Shee will let him feed on here if she wants it, there is nothing to negotiate about. Unless at some point he doesn't want to anymore. Which isn't really something I see any need to talk him out of then.
>>
>>36902486
>Because we can't always just run away.
Well, why the fuck not?

>often if we want to do something with Ash.
Well we're not doing shit with Ash at the moment, and it doesn't look like we will be any time soon either. So, unless we have a mission there, don't see the point myself
>>
>>36902544
>No, he asked if we wanted him to
No, he didn't Anon.
Go and re-read it, see how wrong you are.
>>
>>36902561
>Well, why the fuck not?
Because that would be pretty suspicious. We have to still work in that place, which means we need to be able to move around and talk to people without having to teleport away anytime peope ask us about something we do.
>>
>>36902586
>He says “still, I wish there was something I could do to help.”
After we told him we got addicted to drugs to make up for the bite addiction. What do you thin he was offering there, more drugs?
>>
>>36902600
Well, I don't get it. We don't need to go into the hive aside from to work, so it's pretty much fine unless we have a mission.

And if we have a mission then it's straight into Jail if we're caught, so deception ain't gotta do shit
>>
>>36902633
>We don't need to go into the hive aside from to work
Thats already enough.
And apparently some people want to interact with Ash, and so I don't want to make plans that exclude them.
>>
>>36902628
He means he wishes he could do something to help.

So we negotiated what we wanted from him. Which was to be fed upon when we're clean.

Negotiation!
>>
>>36902653
It's not enough unless we draw suspicion upon ourself. And in which case it will be the SWAT teams hunting us down and shooting on sight, because psychic yo.

And yeah, thing about Ashley though is he can come into the duster place. Like he did, when he brought gun
>>
>>36902654
>So we negotiated what we wanted from him. Which was to be fed upon when we're clean.
We didnt do that at all. Maybe you should be re-reading the quest.
We said we wanted him to bite us, but it would be bad right now so we won't, and we MIGHT let him feed on us if we are clean.
There was nothing about any deals or negotiating in that. Just clear, I don't want this right now, I might want it later. Neither did we ask any promise from hi that he will feed from us, nor did we convince him of anything.
>>
>>36902689
>Like he did, when he brought gun
What? We explicitly went up into the Hive for that.
Did you miss the whole conversation about how he can't go to Dust Town, that was made in-character?
>>
>>36902723
>Negotiation
>obtain or bring about by discussion.
Well, we brought about the fact we may want to be fed upon when we were clean. So we obtained the right to be fed upon after we were clean, in unclear details.
>>
>>36902773
>So we obtained the right to be fed upon after we were clean
No we didn't.
We obtained the right to that six years ago, when our loli self convinced him to feed on us.
>>
>>36902292
>The Gouger took her as a hostage, made me throw away my gun and proceeded to get in a fight with me, the idiot. I managed to fight him off and get my gun, which scared him off, but he gave me a beating in the process. That's why I was so beat up. Her family was killed a while ago and she would've starved to death on the streets; I couldn't save her life just to condemn her to death, so I'm taking care of her for now. Deal with it.

Long write-ins a shiiiiiiiit
>Implying Charun isn't the Gouger

I'm just going to do some behind-the-scenes things so OP will give us bonus XP since apparently the things I do qualify as written works. We'll get both if people want to, they're both useful in this setting as it stands. I guess I just got used to being Sireyi and never having to lie.

If I pass out and we can only get one immediately, I still think we should go with Negotiator, because we probably won't be going into the hive for anything major (definitely not into the higher levels) before the end of the next thread, which is primarily where Deception is useful.

Negotiator is kind of a misnomer, it's actually diplomacy, persuasion and negotiation all balled up into one skill. Maybe have it changed to Diplomat, that feels less narrow. Silver Tongue?
>>
>>36902791
Thats definitly a lie in your greentext though, so I would expect negotiation not to apply to that one.
>>
>>36902739
Yeah, you're right about that. Sorry, transition between the hive and dust town was a little unclear.

Still though, unless we're already under suspicion there's no real problems in the hive at all
>>
>>36902831
Deception could be pretty good to get rid of suspicion, as long as its still just suspicion, like when our employer akss us what made us call in sick, or where we got all these wounds from.
>>
>>36902819
You can negotiate and lie at the same time anon.
>>
>>36902819
I didn't say it was Negotiation, I just got the idea for that lie and felt I should say it for when we do have to explain the girl's presence to Charun. Might lower the DC for us.
>>
>>36902857
We live in the dust place, the average life expectancy is like 18, people are killing each other left right and center, and we had the gouger just running around scot free.

Pretty sure we're not expected to be as healthy as a person in the Hive
>>
>>36902859
Doesn't change the fact that the core of it, the part that is supposed to answer his question, is a lie. So we would have to roll taking lying into account there, not diplomacy.
>>
>>36902899
Since they employ people from there, it can't be that horrible.
>>
>>36902906
But anon
Lying is diplomacy
>>
>>36902862
I like the write-in as what we say though, but we will probably not get any solid bonus out of using it, but its as good a option as we can get.
>>
>>36902953
OP tends to lower DCs for write-ins that he likes, sometimes even going so far as to not require a roll at all or give a better result than otherwise would've been possible.
>>
>>36902948
In the confines of this system, this isn't mas true as it would otherwise be.
>>
>>36902981
Yeah I know, but that isn't a "solid" bonus, by which I mean a bonus we can know and rely on. Since we don't know how large it will be.
>>
>>36903012
Ah, I see.

Well, hopefully I'll be able to do enough things to get at least 2 XP so we can get both.
>>
>>36903093
If most people, as it looks, prefer not to get Deception, its probably better we save those additional XP for Blink then.
I see not much point in getting both now.
We will just have to avoid awkward questions by being especially obtuse.
>>
>>36903093
Well, we could get more XP by playing out our addiction more.
So we could look out for making write-ins that serve as leading up to our addiction becoming more active due to our constant fang proximity now.
>>
>>36903093
I'm slowly writing a fan work, so there's that too.

Certainly won't be done by tomorrow unless a miracle happens though.
>>
>>36903275
Yeah, looking at how those looked like in the last thread, I would prefer not.
I think if something makes even Pally tell people to keep it in their pants, that should probably not something to be encouraged.
I would like for Pally to include these things more and more though, but I don't see us being able to play that out in a not-creepy fashion by the next thread.
>>
>>36903229
We'll take a vote at the beginning of next thread what to do with however much XP we get.

If it's 5, I expect Blink would take it, less that that, probably going to wind up with Deception and maybe a point of Constitution or something.

>>36903275
Don't get melodramatic or pervy with the write-ins, keep it subtle and not-creepy. If it gets to the point that it makes my skin crawl (not super hard), we'd probably wind up losing XP instead.

>>36903329
A proper side-story? Neat.
>>
>>3690342
What melodramatic or creepy write ins have we had already?

That have actually got votes, I mean.
>>
>>36903421
Why would we take deception and not negotiation again?
>Losing XP
like, draining what we already have?
>>
>>36903524
No, you misundertood him. He intends to take Negotiation now, and if we get enough XP but not enough for Blink, we take also Deception.
>>
>>36903586
Seems like a plan then.
>>
>>36903275
Hmm, actually, wait a second...

Wasn't there a write-in when we were explaining to Ash why he couldn't come that roleplayed our addiction?

I'll have to check with OP and make sure he counted that one.

>>36903460
Some of them felt a bit weird. That one asking Ash to bite us in thread 2 creeped me out a little.

>>36903524
More like getting less XP at the end of the thread varying by the creep factor of the write-ins, assuming any of the creepy ones pass. I'm not even sure if negative roleplaying XP would really be a thing, it was a joke. Mostly.
>>
>>36903460
Tell him we've missed him. And his fangs. And what he did with them.
Oh god please please bite me again Ashley

--
This was apparently.

>>36903704
It was part of our reasoning.
>>
>>36903704
>That one asking Ash to bite us in thread 2 creeped me out a little.
I honestly did not find that one that problematic, but I had assumed our addiction to be more severe than apparently Pally had intended it to be, so the creepyness of that one felt appropriate. Addicts can be pretty out there.
>>
>>36903798
I can understand that line of thought.

>>36903738
Yeah, I found the write-in. I'll attach it to whatever things I wind up doing.
>>
>>36902007
Not the guy you were argueing with, but we've clearly been trying to negotiate in situations where it's not called for. Also, we're in a rebellion with a boyfriend from the wrong ethnic group. We've got a lot of good reasons to want to lie. Negotiate, not so much.
>>
>>36902174
ok seriously, can you stop being a condescending prick? Everyone in this conversation is being polite but you. I'm not even the guy you've been insulting and I think you're an asshat.
>>
>>36902791
I think Negotiator makes more sense from an optimization perspective, but it makes less sense to me as far as creating a coherent character. Shee is a tough street urchin with issues. She just doesn't seem like the type to be able to make people like her, so while it might make sense from a gameplay perspective to get negotiator, deception, or possibly intimidation, make a lot more sense to me as far as building a character that makes sense.
>>
>>36905095
>Shee is a tough street urchin with issues.
We actually aren't a street urchin. We come from the at least middle-class, we only came down to the Dust Towns 3 years ago.
>>
>>36902934
We're a secretary for a deniable assets contractor. They're not exactly above board, I doubt anyone from the dust can get a respectable job in the hive.
>>
>>36905127
Ok, a recent street urchin. But keep in mind 3 years is like 20% of her lifespan, and she probably wasn't forming memories for another 20%. So
>>
>>36905095
It doesn't make any sense with the way we've played the character so far. We've been telling the truth left right and centre.
>>
>>36905885
We are definitly not a honest soul, we just didn't have any situation were lying was really necessary.
And if it was, we lied. Like with Ashleys friends.
Or just didn't say the truth, such as about our rebell work.
