You find an unoccupied seat and withdraw the Ritual Book of Surya from your cloak. You'd read more of the Metal Codex, but you get the feeling that you won't gain much from further reading until you improve upon your understanding of Metal magic. Granted, you're basing this assumption mostly on the fact that the hallucinatory face of a god you've never heard of told you to improve and then the book slammed shut. To you that doesn't invite further study.

You crack open the book carefully and begin to leaf through the aged, yellow pages. Eventually you reach the page you previously bookmarked and begin to read further on the Fire magic technique the author referred to as 'Air Burst'. It hinges upon very, very rapidly heating a relatively small area such that the air in that area expands in volume with enough force to hurt those near-by, if not due to the force of the 'wave' then due to the heat of the air washing over them.

The author recommends, for best results, that the caster do his best to keep the heated air compressed by whatever means available, the author recommends manipulate but non-magical means like metal sheets ought to work as well. This, the author states, will result in the most damaging burst.
>(6/16 Chapters Read)

While interesting, your attention is not wholly focused on the ink crawling its way across the pages. You reach out to Chrys via the connection afforded to you by the brooches, and once you hear the quiet whisper of her thoughts at the back of your mind you 'speak' as best you're able. {Is that man bothering you, Chrys?}

Her response comes after only a moment's delay. {Only slightly. He has been doing this for several days now, attempting to converse with me. Initially he was quite polite, but I believe he may be motivated not by curiosity, but rather some sort of perversion or deviance. I have no interest in speaking further with him, but he is nothing if not persistent.}

You consider your response briefly. {Why not simply send him away? You ought to be more than strong enough to best him in a fight, should it come to that.}

You can sense that you've made her uncomfortable, and when she responds the reason why becomes evidence. {I have attempted to inflict mild physical pain to deter his advances in the past. He seemed to enjoy such actions. I do not want him to derive any further pleasure from my actions, so I merely ignore him.}

Well... that's odd, but not entirely unheard of. You know for a fact that brothels make a fortune catering to such whims. Even high class establishments with a clientele mostly consisting of nobles and wealthy merchants. It's never particularly been to your taste, personally, but you're not one to judge. Still, she may have simply misinterpreted the situation, or perhaps you're misunderstanding her. Maybe she just meant he found it funny. Then again, you can't really imagine anyone finding a slap from Chrys funny. More than likely, they'd be busy worrying about a dislocated jaw, or some other such injury.

>Interfere on Chrys' behalf to get rid of the man.
>She seems to have it handled well enough, just focus on your reading.

Has anyone ever translated the Greek stuff DreamSurya said in thread two? The other people in the Fort also spoke Greek, but their stuff is probably less interesting.

“Γεια σου; καμήλα πόρνη;”
He slaps you in the back of the head, sending you falling forward. The ground gives way and you tumble through blackness. As Surya grows ever more distant, his voice booms forth once more in that strange tongue.
“Μιλάτε νότιο; Γιατί κοιμάσαι σε ένα παλιό φρούριο;”

Yeah, it has been translated some time.
And if that one anon that said so multiple times is here: Surya did NOT call us a camel fucker, we incorporated the voice from reality into our dream.

Considering that the ancestors of our race walked from the elven lands to the desert, that means the continents were probably one originally. I'm also lead to believe that the continents were separate by the time of the Rhynians, since the Rhynians called it like "the provinces" or something.

So either natural tectonic motion, rising sea levels, or some great calamity split the continent in two.

I think that was because the Rhynians came from namek which is another planet as far as we know. Or in one of those huge continents in the west.

Why would you even say something like that?
SK literally told us there are tales of "visitors" who brought Rhynian to namek and knew magic, who came through the portals they built and were trading partners.
The Rhynians built the portals to Namek a long time ago, and Namek is on a different planet (I think the one closer to our sun) that the Rhynians communicated with through for instance the observatory lazer show we stumbled upon during our meeting with Prof and Fulvia.
Mortia literally told us the Rhynians came to Namek thousands of years ago from Mundus.

You stand, bookmarking your page with a strip of cloth and slipping the Ritual Book into your cloak. You consider, as you're closing the distance between yourself and Chrys' table, just what the appropriate response would be to this man's intrusion. Violence hardly seems necessary, the man's not done anything overly offensive. However, you want to make it clear that he's not welcome. You could tell him to kindly go sodomize himself, you could even tell him in a flashy and overly elaborate manner, but while funny that would just be a little too crass.

In the end, you decide to at least attempt to handle this politely. Where polite in this context really means passive aggressive. As you approach the table at which Chrys and the monk sit, you clap your hands together loudly. “Ah! Chrys, there you are! You know, I've been looking for you since this morning. Listen, there's been this-” You pause, glancing towards the man as if you've only just noticed him.

He's young, perhaps not much older than you. Lean, but well muscled, and dark skinned even by your people's standards. Shorter than most, though. Overall not bad looking, you've little idea why he'd be resorting to hitting on foreign women when he ought to be more than capable of attracting a Samjan woman. Your suspicious glare doesn't seem to phase him in the slightest, he merely offers a friendly wave.

You clear your throat, having taken a brief pause. “Excuse me, sir. I need to discuss business with my friend here. If you'd be so kind as to excuse us, I would be most appreciative.” You're careful to keep your tone just on the balance between sincere and condescending.

You're not sure if the man willfully ignores you or simply doesn't notice. Regardless, his reply is less than you'd hoped for. “That's fine, more than fine! Feel free to discuss whatever you wish, my friend. I'll not tell a soul. Act like I'm not even here!”

(1/2)
>>
>>36331856
He said on his twitter he was expecting a phone call.
>>
You don't bother to hide your annoyance when you respond. “No, I really think it would be better if you left. You must understand the task my party is contracted to do are quite confidential. Delving ancient ruins is a dangerous, and competitive business and nobody is happy to find that the artifact they desired has been pilfered by a rival. It shouldn't take long, you can even wait at another table if you like.”

The man seems reluctant, but gives in. He stands and bows low to you and even lower to Chrys. “Very well, when you're finished I'll be just over-” He pauses, glancing around the library. “-there.” As he says this, he gestures to the seat you occupied not moments before.

You wave him off dismissively while taking a seat across from Chrys. You've accomplished your task well enough, but he'll likely grow suspicious that you merely wanted to get rid of him should you not appear to be discussing something important.

Once he's out of earshot, Chrys leans forward and whispers conspiratorially. “Just what is it you wished to speak about? Is it about my husband? If so, this really isn't the best place to discuss that sort of thing. It would be better to plot murder in one of our quarters, away from the public.”

You wave a hand dismissively. You lean forward and switch to Rhynian, speaking quietly. “No no, it's not about that. Actually I was just using that as an excuse to get rid of the guy, but now that you've mentioned it I do want to ask what you think the party's next heading should be. Our destination after leaving the temple. We need to retrieve an artifact from the Pa'vala that would restore my sanity fully. We also need to go north and steal a gem from an Elven warlord. Then there is Elaudia to explore, we need to retrieve a recipe from its depths at some point.”

She looks at you oddly for a moment. “A recipe? What is anyone baking in Elaudia? It was my understanding that only beast and savages roamed the area.”

You shake your head. “No, an industrial recipe. I guess technique might be the better word. It's for Hayes back in Anthus, something about Elaudian Steel.” You shrug. “To be honest, he didn't give many details. He just said it was on the other side of the jungle. Said we'd find it eventually. You know how Hayes is though, the man's absolutely mad.”

She nods somberly, then cocks her head to the side while thinking over the party's prospects. “I would propose that we sail from El-Amin to Anthus or Chiron. Both ports would offer us safe travel to Elven lands, and if I recall correctly Sadik recommended we ask around Chiron to get to the Isle of Elda where the gem was being kept. Granted, it might have moved since then. For all we know the warlord keeps it with him at all times.” She clears her throat softly. “You will also be able to make it to my village in one or two day's travel from either of those locations. Regardless, I see no reason to delay any further. We've been here for quite some time, and it seems as though all pressing business has been attended to. It is time to move on.”

(1/2)
>>
Huh, she really wants you to kill her husband. You're actually feeling a little pressured here, the way she keeps bringing it up. That aside, you had intended on going south to retrieve the artifact before you went north to retrieve the gem or east to retrieve the recipe. You suppose that, with your new ring, there's little reason to prioritize the artifact over anything else. You're still not sure you like the idea of letting the Entity fester in your head.

Writin'.
>>
>>36332755
That'd actually be my preferred plan, but because of /tg/'s peoplecollecting tendencies that's not really an option anymore.
Maybe we can just drop in to our Master before leaving for the Deep Desert? I wanna get rid of the Entity before anything else, thogh I'm honestly a bit afraid of the artifact after leaving Varvar's notes on it.
>>
>>36332620
>Make small talk, ask what she's reading and if she's found any books she'd like to buy.

We go to El-Amin, visit our master and our family, head for the artifact to get rid of that fucking entity, kill Chrys's husband, and finally go get the recipe.
Fuck the gem, the reward is shit.
>>
>>36332834
It was kinda though that we could do multiple of these.
>>
>>36332845
Anon, we'll never see Sadik again if we don't get the gem. Why do you think he didn't show up on the road to the Temple after we got back to this dimension?
>>
>>36332842
There's no way we're going into The Deep Desert without first being Water GM.
>>
>>36332845
I agree, FUCK the gem, Eulidean steel recipe is way better. If only the jungle wasn't ruhrohShraggy/spooky... We'll need mental metal magic before goig there.
And we'll need it for our magic armor.
>>
>Airship
>Self crafted Enchanted Armor (With Wings and other cool shit) (preferably dragon themed)

What else is there we need?
>>
>>36332873
I'm sure we'll come across him, he probably cast mark on us so he knows we're not gunning for the gem. He has other people on the job anyway, I doubt he cares too much.
>>
>>36332845
You say that but what do we gain from hayes knowing the recipe?
Once he gets it, doesn't mean he will be able to use it any time soon.
I still do agree getting the artifact should be a priority.
>>36332873
we have no way of running into him even if we wanted. But I guess we don't really have any reason to yet anyhow.
>>36332755
Best thing we could do, debut seige there.
It would be nice to look over the contract, see about how money is split, talk about creating a franchise.
We don't want to make one then, find out he still gets 50% of the profit. while our family basically gets their cut solely from our cut.
>>
>>36332927
Literally nothing else. The dragon armor is the peak of life as we know it. Anything else we could ever want, like a base of operations, will be ours as a direct consequence of the armor.
>>
>>36332939
That's why we learn it our self. We're already gonna be Gud at Metal magic. Should making Blacksmithing non too hard.
>>
>>36332939
If we give Hayes the recipe we get a magic compass.

We can't really debut Siege when we don't even know if it's finished and we're nowhere near Demetrius.
>>
>>36332927
Fuck, the fact that this is actually possible makes my dick so hard right now. I can imagine Mik just showing up on his giant airship for his unbanishment.
>>
Actually that is a very correct observation...and we do want to see Sadik again...for sure
>>
>>36332971
We learn the recipe ourselves, work out a contract with Hayes that we get a cut of all his profits, and get the compass.
>>
>>36332872
You could, but neither of the second and third place options seemed to have nearly as much support, so I didn't want to just include them on a whim.

Anyway, back to writin'!
>>

>>

Don't waste our time.
>>
>>36332971
The hand book isn't finished.
We can buy a plot of land, have a coliseum built and introduce seige with our master/family.
who wouldn't want to see us/help vs our master. Then once we leave have our brother take care of things we can leave 2000 silver. should cover the first few matches of paying mages. Then people betting/entrance fee, our family should be rolling in money soon enough. And all thanks to us.
Family should appreciate us more
sister should be less of a cunt.
We make money
Our family gains more sway in the kingdom
being rich is nice.

Nature magic
>>

Probably some normal nature meditations, I don't know why anons want to waste money on it, I understood with our enchanted Metal Codex, but not for a simple book.
>>
>>36333074
Yeah and we'd have to rent it out.
Think long term, also fuck kadir. I don't want him getting any more money outside of taxes.
It's an interesting concept, bound to be an audience for it.
Also building to coliseum should be to crazy. We've two vatis in earth.
Can have Fulvia gathering vys now. And she could likely do it all at once.
Or we could pay like 500-750 silver and pay a GM in earth, to do it in a few minutes.
>>
>>36333145
always good to learn some tricks, some one may not think of that the book contains.

heck having Mortia train with us, we basicly can't fail. We should have Profectus get to expert in fire, he would likely do insane amount of damage.
>>
>>36333187
Fulvia doesn't know Earth magic.
Also this is a stupid idea, just use the colosseum already built like normal people and have small demonstrations in town to hype it up.
>>
>>36333176
>>36333172
>>36333145
The brief flip through you gave it before checking it out seemed to indicate that it was some sort of medical text, lots of illustrations of muscle tissue and explanations of how shit works.
>>
>>36333187
Or we could make it a collective earth meditation, just like what we did at the beach. I like the idea of it, time permitted. Though technically unbanished I'm not sure we'd want to strut our stuff around or near El-Amin in all honesty.
>>
>>36333145
Nature magic, it was second place behind metal book, last time we were here.
>>36333220
We should have him learn earth as well, since his arm is both earth and fire.

man, we've done it on massive scales before.
with other people.
It can be a tabletop thing. But it also can be a game on a massive scale.
remember when we met var var, after our show? Almost passing out because we did it on a massive scale.

>>

>>

>>
>>36333338
It might help with the GM meditation for water too
>>
>>36333370
Ya, I thought everyone agreed it was breddy gud and we should get it.
>>
>>36333326
>It can be a tabletop thing. But it also can be a game on a massive scale.
>remember when we met var var, after our show? Almost passing out because we did it on a massive scale.
Yea.

But it's not like we'll be able to stop people from emulating us, and we still need to make money. So what we do is we print out rule books and mass produce them. Books are also quite expensive here due to copying by hand. Then we host Tournaments a couple times a year drawing in thousands to compete and even more to watch.

Come to think of it it may EVENTUALLY require us to have our own stadium but for now our family can rent out a local one.
>>
>>36333370
Knowing anatomy does, but I think just reading about it without studying it ourselves is more likely to give healing than combat.
I'm the anon who wanted anatomy to get a tehnique where we mess with people's inside nonlethally.
>>
>>36333338
Depend on how we attack. Only works for specific Water magics.

So anybody thinking a dual GM Water/Fire meditation by burning ourself alive for a week straight?
>>
>>36333396
We're already good enough with healing, and we rarely get into melee combat, I say we ditch the book.
>>
>>36333443
That's not a dual meditation, but yes, Self-immolation is our best option in mx opinion, and I've been saying this for weeks.
But not now, not with our dragon baby so young and party so vulnerable.
>>
>>36333443
>So anybody thinking a dual GM Water/Fire meditation by burning ourself alive for a week straight?
Possible but probably dangerous as hell

Soma has Mik ever heard of anyone gaining GM in two elements at once?

What kind of bonuses would that give us? Probably some real awesome shit considering that GM meditations vary by risk and method so doing two at once could be pretty cool.
>>
>>36333407
im not gona fight people on this.
just saying it'd be good to do this.

Also we should talk to master or our brother, on how to get rid of two chest's full of opium. That could be the start up money and add to our family's coffers easily.
Is opium illegal?
>>
>>36333484
He confirmed we can't do both at once, please at least read the threads, I'm sure we've talked about it.
>>
>>36333481
The original plan we to have other peopel burn us.

I'm talking trying to get GM in Fire and Water at the same time..

And if we're just doing Water i support the Frostbite plan
>>

>>
>>36333493
I'm not fighting just brainstorming.
>>
>>36333484
probably not the best idea, to do two at once. especially with our insanity meter so high.

But guys we should hit GM with some manner of manipulation not healing.
But if we are going to go the healing route, I say we go hydra. Basicaly being immune from any and all poisons. May even help to reduce how radioactive shit effects us.
>>
>>36333526
>>
>>36333526

>>
>>36333514

>>
>>36333514
The original plan wasn't to have others burn us. I'm the anon who came up with the whole idea. Others only got involved when people wanted to make it a group meditation.
I'm also the anon whocame uo with Frostbite, but that'd take longer, so it depends on when and where we do things.
Here's also the option of lava baths, if you're feeling partiularly suicidal, I must have been drunk when suggesting that.
>>
>>36333542
I strongly disagree with everything in this post.

Tho i do support some manner of Water manipulation but a mix is best.

“I'll keep your advice in mind, Chrys. I'll need to speak with the others at some point in the near future to get their opinions as well.” You might end up following her advice, you might not. Only time will tell. “Anyway, I've noticed you've been reading quite a bit since we got here. Has anything in particular caught your interest? Anything you might want to buy? I'm sure you've got enough money to afford whatever it is you want, after the haul we got from the last ruin. Just ask and I can dole you out some of your money to buy whatever it is you'd like.”

She purses her lips for a moment, contemplative. Eventually she reaches into her pack, which she'd previously discarded next to her chair, and withdraws three thick tomes. She lays each one, as well as the book she's currently reading, out in front of her. “I've mostly been reading up on Earth magic. I have been trying to spread out my time across all four to finish them all as quickly as possible, but I believe I have attempted to do too much with too little time. Plus, many of the books seem to cover similar material...”

She pushes two books forward, placing them on a shelf behind her. “These two books are likely the most useful tomes regarding Earth magic I've found. This one-” She points to a thick, leather-bound book with a stone symbol embedded in the center. “-relates to simpler applications. Things like manipulating stone and eroding surfaces.” She gestures next to the other tome, a book bound with undecorated wooden slats. “This one is focused on the more complex uses of Earth magic. I'm not sure you knew, but it serves to interrupt the prying eyes of Nature vatis, and prevent Metal vatis from guarding their minds against mental influences. It can also be used to erode one's sanity.”

You had no idea Earth magic could be used like that. In fact, you always thought it was something of a useless Magic for everything save building great works with impossible architecture. Considering your already delicate sanity, you can't help but feel a little scared of Earth magic now. Especially considering you're employed by a very, very powerful Earth vatis in the form of Sadik.

“Anyway, I believe I would like to purchase these two. I do not think I will need any more than three hundred gold to do so.”

You reach into your cloak and extract a canvas sack filled with coins. With some difficulty, and the ardent complaint of your already sore limbs, you hoist the sack onto the table. Chrys plucks it up with seemingly no difficulty. “I thank you, if you'll excuse me this should only take a moment.” With that, she stands and leaves you to your own devices, making her way towards the librarian at his desk with the sack of gold in one hand and the books in the other.

One idea I have for meditation will be, to reduce the heat around our carriage and camels.
Should help our camels get farther/our party members not be dying in the heat(not that it's much of an issue)
But it will let us control heat. And not just fire.
We already know how to make things colder via water. We just have to apply that knowledge to fire, to turn down the heat.
So when we want to we can make a blanket that doesn;t have flames. Just a normal looking blanket that feels like it's on fire.(because it's that hot - the visible flames)
Would be cool to just throw that at some unsuspecting enemy.

You get up, and begin to look through the various shelves of the library for anything that catches your interest. You don't find anything spectacular, at first. The section you're browsing seems mostly devoted to histories, fictional narratives, and other such idle flights of fancy. You do find one novel of interest, titled 'The Fall: A Hiacian Perspective'. Flipping it open, it seems to relate to the fall of the Rhynian Empire from the viewpoint of a Hiacian soldier. It's fairly short, but might offer something of interesting.

Moving on, you pass from the fiction section into a portion of the library that seems to be devoted to metamagic. They don't have many scrolls, but you do find one squirreled away in a nook. Unrolling it and glancing over the page, you find that it relates to a meta you're vaguely familiar with. 'Delay', as the name might suggest, delays the effects of a spell until a set amount of time after its been cast. It has the added benefit of removing any sign that the caster has cast a spell. Thus, one could shake hands with a target while secretly casting a Poison spell. The target could die hours after the spell itself was cast. However, the longer one wishes to delay the more costly it is to cast.

You don't really find much else of interest, and instead decide to reach out via the brooches to the rest of your companions to get their input on your next destination. {So, we've been at this Temple for quite a while. It's been a well deserved rest after the last few weeks. I think-}

Profectus interrupts you. {Woah, woah, woah. Mik, you call this a rest? It wasn't even a week ago that you blew up the pirate base and opened a hole in reality. I wouldn't call that restful.}

(1/??)
>>

He is, anon. Mostly. I've only seen three images that made me go "this would probably be more applicable to Life Quest, rather than Banished."
>>
You sigh, more to yourself than anything else. {That hardly effects you guys, in fact I solved that problem almost single-handedly. Just needed a little help from the Varistha to finish things off. Anyway, as I was saying. It's time to set off again We've task to complete and ruins to delve. Hopefully no more dimensions to explore.}

Fulvia speaks. {What exactly do we have left that we must accomplish? Besides retrieving that gem from the Isle of Elda, I can think of no jobs that we have been contracted for.}

Right, you suppose not everyone is up to date. {Besides the gem, we need to retrieve an artifact from the Pa'vala which will banish the Entity from my mind. We also need to reach the other side of the Elaudian jungle and retrieve the recipe for Elaudian Steel. As for the gem itself, for those new to the party we were contracted by a merchant to retrieve a gem from an Elven warlord. We could either steel it, or acquire it by some other means. Doesn't matter so long as we get it.}

Profectus is the first to speak. {I think we ought to head for Elaudia. When I was a soldier, we used to hear all sorts of stories about the wonders the Elaudians possessed. How they controlled the beast of the jungles with magic and used them for their own purposes. How they built vast, towering cities and had ships which could sail beneath the waves. Even entire cities built underwater. I want to steal those treasures for my own.}

Huh, you hadn't heard about the underwater sailing thing, nor the underwater cities. Actually, how would one sail beneath waves? There's no wind underwater. That makes no sense. Maybe Profectus is just making things up to tantalize you.

Fulvia is the next to speak. {I believe restoring your sanity ought to be our most important goal at the moment. Should that Entity drive you mad, you would cause untold damage both to us and your surroundings.}
(2/3)
>>
Darzi's mental tone is hesitant when she speaks. {Personally, I think we should go for the Elaudian Steel recipe. Just think, if we could find out how they produced it in such great quantity we could become the wealthiest men and women to ever walk the planet. Richer than dragons.}

There's a pause which stretches on until it's awkward, and then Skull Kid speaks up. {I don't really feel like it's my place to offer up my opinion, I mean. I'm new to the group, don't really know much about all this. Not even from this dimension really. You guys do whatever, I'll follow along.}

Mortia pitches in only to agree with Skull Kid. With those two abstaining, the votes seem to come out two for getting the Elaudian Steel recipe from the jungle, one for retrieving the gem, and one for heading into the Pa'vala. Of course, this isn't really a democracy. You've got the final say in where the party goes, having assumed the mantle of leadership.

3. Rest of the party heads to Anthus to catch up with Demetrius and get some copies of Siege!
4. While the rest of the party heads to Anthus we head to Khemdi to assassinate Chrys's husband.
2 again. Meet up with the party.
5. Stop by Marqash to rest (If it's not a hostile city).
6. Head for the Pa'vala.
7. Stop by Selepf to rest (If it's not a hostile city).

Although, they're actual sidequests in the sense that you probably shouldn't try to do all of them at once.

You realize we can and will go to the biggest market in El-Amin to buy supplies for the trip to Pa'vala and we will haggle so much it will probably boost our skill up anyway. Not to mention we can choose to take a gold hit for cheap supplies where it won't even dent our savings instead of magic books, some of the most expensive things we could buy.

There's a time and a place for things and the time for taking a gold hit wasn't now.

You think on your options for a moment, before eventually coming to a decision. {I think we'll likely head into the Pa'vala first. I realize it may seem selfish, but I need to put my own sanity first. For once in my life. Of course, it's not like the Pa'vala will just be completely devoid of adventure, there are plenty of ancient ruins to delve and loot to find. After the Pa'vala we'll move on to Elaudia, I think. That way all our most life-threatening task will be handled one after the other.}

When nobody raises any issue with this plan, you sever the connection. With the books you picked out under one arm you make your way towards the librarian's desk, where Chrys is currently haggling with the old man sitting behind the desk. The old man is pale, and sweating profusely. Chrys is speaking to him calmly and quietly, you can't quite pick out what she's said. By the time you get close enough to hear her, she's already counting out coins.

Much to your surprise she ended up only needing sixty gold coins for two books. You're not sure if she got a fantastic deal, or if her books simply weren't all that expensive. The man scoops the cold she set out on the table into a tray, his hands shaking violently all the while. Once done, he turns his attention to you. Chrys does the same, offering you the sack containing the rest of her gold. “You may keep the rest of this for me.”

You reach for it, but Ricky snakes a tentacle out of your cloak and wraps around the top of the sack, jerking it swiftly into your cloak. The old man yelps quietly from behind his desk, and when you turn your attention to him he's staring wide-eyed at you. Whatever Chrys told him must have really put him on edge, because he looks like a wreck. You wouldn't be surprised if his heart was about to give out.
(1/2 or 3)
>>
You hold up your hands placatingly as you step up to lay your books down on his desk. “Relax, relax. I don't mean you any harm. You'll have to excuse my companion, she can be rather forceful from time to time.” He merely nods his head slowly, picking up the two books you picked out as well as the Serpent and the Staff and reading over the first few pages of each briefly. You turn to shoot Chrys a look, but she merely shrugs her shoulders.

After a time the man manages to stammer out a sentence. “T-t-two hun-hundred gold. Two hundred, y-yes.” He's just staring at his desk, refusing to meet your eyes. Gods above, you were curious before but now you're more impressed than anything. This man is presumably a Water vatis of some skill, whatever she told him must have been quite severe.

“How about-” Before you can finish, the old man interrupts. “Fine! Fine, a hundred twenty! Just, just don't let her-” He cuts himself off, shooting Chrys a look. You reach into your cloak and set out twelve neat stacks of ten gold each. You'd shoot for lower, but frankly you feel a little bad for the old man.

Once you've paid the man and he scoops your money into a tray, you pluck up your new books and slide them into your cloak before leaving the library with Chrys. While the two of you walk back towards the section of the temple where your quarters have been relegated, you contact her via the brooches. {So what was all that about?}

Her response is swift. {Nothing, nothing at all. I merely described to him a technique my father taught me to remove the intestines from a guar. With minor alterations, it could be used on a man as well.} That doesn't sound so bad... in fact you could probably heal that. Not that it would be pleasant, but you could.

{Well, anyway. I wanted to ask. Would you rather I leave for Khmedi alone, or with the group? I'm sure you heard my announcement, but after our stop in El-Amin I intend to make my way to Khmedi. I just wasn't sure if you wanted the entire group to know of your desire to see your husband dead.}

When she replies, you get the sense that she's pleased with you. {I would like you to go alone, I believe I mentioned that previously. However, I am glad that you bothered to think of my wishes.}
