A weave of violet entombs your form, condemning you to dream, the golden mask watches as if without a care. The threads tighten, your muffled screams are heard by no one. The last sight that passes beneath your eyes are the wisps of purple energy accompanying the threads.

The darkness brings only the sound of your beating heart, blood rushing through your form. A young boy sits on a hospital bed, his blank eyes staring at the wall as if it were a window, as if longing for a sight. Your hand. No, hers. Slides over the stained white sheets, grasping the boy's hand.

He turns. The closed eyes opening. Grey eyes, a ring of yellow, flecks of gold. A smile crossing his face. His hand slowly brushing against her features. His lips pressing those softer and red, upon her face. Arousal becomes your blood, lust your skin, desire your mind, as she, no you, take him. Perceptions becoming warped as the bedsheets twist and turn.

Breathless, sweat sheens covering them, You, like a sheet covers a bed. His fingers slowly trace your lips. His eyes close for a moment. Warmth floods over you, each pair of hands slowly sliding, combining. His eyes open.

The scent of copper fills the air. Blood drips from his eyes. Their forms twisted, pierced, bloodied. Dead. Bonds of paternity, maternity, broken. The bond of the sibling remaining alone. Holding him in her arms, your arms. His eyes closed once more, opening as he smiled at you. His hand brushing against your cheek.

Blood rises from the ground, an expression of melancholy, but acceptance shows upon her face. Slowly it rose, the tide splashing upon knees, thighs, lower back, until finally at her waist. She could not float, but he would. She wished him to, which is why he could leave this place. With a final kiss, he began to float. Away from her. His atrophied muscles tried to grip her, but he had not the strength for one so young.

Drowning in her own ideals, she was the picture of calm. You however, were not. The air in your lungs filled with blood. The dream ends, as you futilely attempt to scream your last into the ocean of blood.

Ripping the coat off of your body, you scramble out of the bed. Wait, this isn't a bed. Tumbling onto the tiled floor, gasping, not only for breath, but out of surprise. You quickly put out your hands, stopping your head-ward descent into the floor. With a small sigh, you spin out of the....wait, what was it?

Looking at where you were sleeping, it seemed to be a combination of three chairs. Which are now all on the floor thanks to you. Looking around, you can see your friend, dressed in her shirt and tie. And she was accompanied by a man who was far too well dressed to be in a casual environment, you could envisage him being in a celebrity party, or one with royalty and nobles.

Along with that, you could see a series of doors, and a few signs as well.

>Right one of the chairs, and wait.

You pat down your body, attempting to remove some of the dirt you gained from last night. It doesn't do much help. Deep breath, in, out. You take a step forwards towards the couple. They don't seem to be arguing, at least, not on the surface as you approach.

The man talking to her towered above your new friend, his features were ever so slightly feminine, bordering on androgyny. Without even looking in your direction, he drew his hand from his chin, it trailed along his neck for a moment, darting towards his waist. That was a big gun.

Then it was pointed at you. It was a Revolver. A big. Customized. Revolver. Pointing directly at your head. The conversation stopped, his partner's jaw dropped at his actions. You opened your mouth for a moment to attempt to talk. "Stop" His voice, filled to the brim with authority and arrogance "Don't talk, don't even let me look at you."

Swallowing, you stayed quiet.

"As I was saying, she is dangerous and cannot be controlled yet Adrian." His voice seemed filled with venom "Which was why you were supposed to drop it elsewhere. As in, not directly in the middle of our base."

Your friend, Adrian, it appeared to be, gritted her teeth "We were attacked just before we left, we had no idea if we had more peo...things, in pursuit of us."

He smiled, as if he were talking to a child "Regardless, for disobeying orders, and getting those assigned with you killed, your pay will be quartered, and your contract erased." He seemed to remember something, as he rolled his eyes "Oh and, while you're still here, you can escort her" He shook his gun at you "To see the interviewer."

Turning, facing away from you as much as possible, he left. Adrian was left scowling at the floor, merely from her face you could see she was close to tears. Breathing in, and then out, she faced you. The face of steel was clearly equipped, the frustration, sadness, erased under it. "Sorry about that, he wasn't aware of what happened."

Memories of last night flooded through your head, some of them still disjointed to the point of being to piece them back together. With a small shake of your head, you look back at Adrian. The warm smile you saw helped you relax a little. "Come now, since you came with us you should see Chun Guo, he'll want to talk to you about what happened."

Turning, she gestures towards the corridor for you to follow her.

Look at it this way: you're a new QM starting a new quest in a popular property going up against established QM's that have two or three quests under their belt--most established in popular properties--, and have dedicated fanbases.

It'll take awhile, man. Ride it out, execute the plot well, and eventually the participants will come. Of course, this says nothing of the guys who only catch up on the shenanigans once they get archived.

""Contract erased," huh? That's not some sort of euphemism for "shot in the back and buried in a field," right?" You ask, breaking the silence in the hall.

She lets out a little giggle "I doubt they would get any more recruits with that sort of policy" Adrian turned, walking backwards in the hall "It just means I'm only getting the pay for the last mission, I was on a short contract anyway, but it was the extended service that would get me the real money." With a sigh Adrian spun on her heel, facing forwards again.

"Now I get maybe around a tenth of the total money, less if he wasn't bluffing with that quartered...." Your vision is broken, like a pebble hitting a pond, you could see beneath the surface of the water. The young boy with grey eyes. A hand filled with coins and paper. A drain. The "water" settled, as you stumbled, clutching your head.

Adrian caught you "Are you alright?" Concern in her voice, not placed in you. Your breathing was irregular, chest rising and falling erratically. But it soon passes, looking back at up her with a nod.

After another minute or so of walking, the plain, clean, white walls were interrupted by a grey door frame. "I'll be outside, good luck." With a gesture from Adrian, you enter. A man sat on the other side of a desk, old, chinese, with one of those stereotypical chinese master beards, like noodles they drooped off of his face.

"Do you know why you are here?" He asked, as you took a seat.

"No." You answer quite simply, somewhere inside you, wanted to deny that yesterday was simply a dream. A hallucination. An out of body experience. To joke about it. To make fun of it. To not know the gravity of the situation. But you couldn't run from it forever "No, I don't."

"You're here because the greatest thread known to mankind has it's eye on you." His noodle beard shifted around as he talked, distracting you a little "More than that, of the several strikes around the globe tonight, the town you lived in featured the heaviest alien activity, the most elite forces, the largest ship."

He slid a file across the table. A dossier. On you. "This makes you a person humanity has to keep more than an eye on, it could make you anything from our next savior, to an important war asset."

The dossier in front of you had several pictures of you. Short black hair, blue eyes, sun-kissed flesh, athletic/gymnastic build. The first few signs of puberty emerging from your body.

A short history on yourself. Russia, where you were born. Your parents, an older man from China, graying hair and a stocky build. Your mother, tall, blond, athletic like you. Striking blue eyes, a trait that was passed onto you. Detailing your transfer to England, your future in the best schools in the world. Your academic prowess, even the junkyard, all of it was detailed.

It raised the hairs on your back to know they could have this much information on you, in such a little time.

"Unlike several other organizations, we will not press you into service, we will not make you fight on the front lines. If you are to join us, we will keep you safe, and away from our enemies." He looks away a little "If you wish to decline, then we will drop you off where you want it. We can't promise we will leave you alone, we don't know what will happen if the...Extraterrestrial threat gets their hands on you."

We shall use our powers to take over EXALT and be the best defenders of our peoples... X-Com need not apply.

Also, I don't recall EXALT deciding that their soldiers needed to have all their limbs amputated so they could be turned into Mechs... Seriously, most of the soldiers of X-com would be totally screwed if they left the organisation.... And I don't recall the procedure being voluntary, seeing as though you ordered the troops to undergo the various augmentations and surgeries...

MECs can also be recruited from gravely injured troops and have a set of prostheses designed to help them have normal lives. Besides, they end up becoming giant fucking robots that can punch their way through tanks. What's a few limbs in exchange for that?
>>
>>35615923

ethics and how the normal civilians will react to them once they end their military career... do you think that a company will readily hire an ex-special forces veteran with four nano-based artificial limbs? Someone who could literally kill everyone who worked there with little effort? Someone who has killed numerous humans and aliens (if that information isn't so heavily covered up/classified)...

not to mention, would X-com just let them leave with the super-advanced alien based augmentations?

That level of transhumanism is such a grey area, it is highly unlikely that the soldier in question will ever adapt to living a 'normal' life...

But; this is all philosophical ranting... this is a light hearted game.... I should probably stop thinking so much on such obscure and irrelevant matters....

tldr; There is no Good or Bad, only Gray-scale...

I agree with this anon

but realistically, you would find both approaches. the anti military faggots with their "boohoo military bad, disable vets bad, what if they flip out?" and then you would have the patriots. The vets will obviously get jobs with the latter.

although IIRC xcom pays its field ops very very well. so they are rich anyways.

"I accept." You state confidently "And I would also like to help the effort, for humanity." You had no doubts, this was what you wanted to do. Maybe for revenge, for those that had died, maybe for your parents. To get them back, or to avenge them.

The man on the other side of the room remained emotionless "That is good." He seemed to mull something over as you brought up another issue "I don't have any real training though." You pause for a moment, remembering Adrian "Could you also assign Adrian to me? She was a good body guard, and performed well with saving me."

"Your request will be....considered" He stated, sliding the dossier back over to himself, making a note upon it "Until then, my associate, Zhang, is waiting for you outside. He will be your caretaker for now, he is under orders to keep interaction with you to be....minimal, however."

Nodding, you draw your chair back and exit the room. Outside you see Adrian, tapping away on an old Nokia phone, facing away from, who you assume, to be the "Zhang" you were told of. He had short grey hair. Scars decorating his face, one from the tip of his eye brow, striking downwards, just below the bags beneath his eyes, it seems scars didn't help if you didn't get enough sleep on that issue.

Another became apparent as he turned towards you. It was carved in the upper side of his cheek, curving downwards, to his mouth, before cruelly diving downwards. That was a scar made intentionally.

"You must be my contact." A confident statement "I am to take care of you for now, I did not expect to be playing babysitter." Doubt crossing his face, as he stared into yours "We are not assigned to be anywhere, so for the most part I will simply follow you."

Adrian seemed a little pre-occupied on her phone at the moment, but Zhang was ordered to keep contact with you minimal.

You approach Adrian, she doesn't seem to realize you had left yet, caught up in her phone. Tapping her on the shoulder, she flinches ever so slightly, her back tensing. Scooting away a little, before turning to you. Opening her mouth, Adrian almost speaks, but catches herself, taking a small breath, she tries again "Yes? What can I do for you?"

"I've joined the compa-" You pause, you weren't actually sure of what you had joined, a bit of an oversight in hindsight "I've joined, I put in a good word for you too." You say with a smile. It's reciprocated, a warm smile, one that met her eyes.

"But, I think I might need some firearms training, and a tour of the place." Adrian considers your words, before gesturing to the left of the hallway

"We don't have a dedicated firing range here, it's likely we ar- You are, going to move again soon anyway." Adrian's smile withered as she spoke "But I think we're both in need of some food, right?" You nod, you hadn't eaten for almost a day and a bit now.

Soon, you're in the mess hall, eating through your food, as Adrian fills you in on the man in the coat. "I didn't meet the man until yesterday, he came in and took control of the base, apparently he's higher in the spectrum than Chun Guo. All I've heard is his first name, Gannon, and it's enough to set anyone who already knows it on edge."

Considering how he treated you, it's no surprise. You felt as if he was actually going to shoot you if you had spoken out. "You should avoid him until we know why he's so hostile." Her phone buzzes again "Sorry, I think I'm going to have to put the tour on hold, not like there's much else to go to aside from the toilet now..." Fishing the phone out of her pocket, she moves her long legs from out of the bench, answering the call.

You finish up the rest of the food as best as you can, the cooks here, if there were any at all, were not very good. You could have done better with a quarter of a kitchen.

She returns a few seconds later "Sorry, I'm going to have to go and meet my brother in the hospital, there's some trouble apparently..." Adrian's face showed she distraught, no matter how she attempted to hide it behind her cold iron mask.

"Could I come with you? I haven't been restricted to the base so it should be fine." Adrian considers it for a moment, before shrugging her shoulders and nodding.

"Alright, but Zhang's giving up his car for it, his is better than mine by far." Zhang grumbles in response, before fishing out his keys and thrusting them towards Adrian "And you're driving, that's what babysitters do right?" Adrian smiled like the sun.

Zhang's car was sleek. Black. And most importantly, it had the best engine you've ever seen. Well, you didn't exactly see it, but simply from the sound of the car starting up, you knew this car was absolute gold. But then the old Chinese fart decided to drive slow, not using the engine to it's fullest potential. With a dejected sigh, you decided to talk about firearms with Adrian in the back. Although you hadn't experienced much use of a firearm, simply talking with her made you feel a little more confident in using them.

The car began to slow, as you detailed how extensive the modification's of Gannon's revolver were. The talk came to a stop as Adrian's attention wandered out of the door, quickly followed by Adrian herself. Even before the car had stopped fully, Adrian opened the door, planting her feet on the ground. her clothing wasn't changed from yesterday, still covered in grime, sweat and dirt.

Jumping out alongside her, you quickly followed her. Adrian started a quick walking pace, before Zhang could even get out of the car, his grunts of frustration quickly fading into the distance. Entering the white sterile walls of the hospital, Adrian almost seems to forget about you, rushing quickly to the front desk. With a sigh, the receptionist managed to answer without Adrian saying a word "Room 47, as always Adrian" the old woman's nasally tone irritating you from just hearing it "Not sure why you're even here, nothing's even changed."

Well maybe we can have X-COM land in ours, with legos.

I thought we were just having discussion on the game, noted.

"What?" Adrian seemed a little confused "The doctors said there was a change over the phone, what happened?"

The crone smiled "Guess there was a bit of a mix up girl."

Adrian bit back a harsh response, her red lips marred by white teeth. Turning, she marched away, not back out of the hospital though. Towards Room 47.

You quickly followed, the Crone giving you a foul look as you do so. Walking along the hall, Adrian breaks from her fast pace into a small jog, her face hidden from you, but you could feel the fear, almost desperation, simply through her body. She turned a corner, sharply, eliminating your observations. Turning it, you found that you couldn't see her, vanished, gone, disappeared.

Your eyes wandered in seeking a possibility, the patient rooms on the left read 46...47..48... Wait, 47!

Opening the door slowly, you could see Adrian kneeling next to the white bed. A window covering the bed with light, the young boy, barely older than a child, sitting on the bed. His calm voice speaking out "Adrian, it's alright" his hand patting her on the hand, slowly stroking her blond hair "Nothing went wrong, I'm fine."

Maybe we can get some sort of diagnostic on him like we do with engines.
>>
>>35618557
Why don't you ask?
>>
>>35618586
I'm not sure if that's acceptable bedside conversation.
>>
>>35618586
Better to word it.. that you saw them.. in your dreams. They were.. doing.. things.. there was blood.
>>
>>35618594
What, you've never tactlessly asked a person you've just met if they've fucked their sibling? It's just a normal conversation opener, man.

Alright well it's almost 5AM now, and I can feel my writing turning stale and shit as I speak.
Thread #4 will be tomorrow, maybe a bit earlier so I don't suffer from I-can't-write syndrome.

>>35618425
I'll be taking this result for next thread.

By the way, if players can come to a consensus, you guys can name the FeMC.
If not, I'll name her properly next thread.

We should totally use our psychic abilities. We help/heal that little shit she's ours. It's pretty obvious.

quick some on think of a Chinese last name and a Russian first name.

Anyway Thanks for running dude.
>>
>>35618819
Or.. we use the ability to slowly supplant the feelings she has for her brother and re-direct them towards us.

We a psychic nigga. She fucks her brother.
>>
>>35618935
I Don't think they want to fuck. I think she has a protective streak a mile wide for the kid and loves him dearly. We slowly add our character into that with our psi jujuu.

Or.. we try to fix the kid.

>>35618866

I have laughed and I am apparently the one who advocates no fun.

Say "You?! Wait what." Whisper to Adrian that you saw this guy in a dream.

Here is a question, is what we are seeing actually happening? The nurse said that his condition hasn't changed, which suggests that he is in some kind of coma... Adrian is kneeling at his bedside, not embracing him, suggesting that he isn't sat up...

Could we be seeing an astral projection of his spirit?
Is there more going on here than first impressions give?
Is this all baseless wild speculation?

Do people even read this quest?
