“Dinner” with Captain Rosmalen turned out to be more entertaining than you could have hoped. After slaying the would-be Grey Knight assassin, you ended up in rather high spirits. Partly because you had a new skull and fresh blood to dine on. Rosmalen fainting on top of it all was just a bonus. Controlling him, and thus the Grand Cruiser Faithful Inferno, should be trivial. Key word being “should.”

With that potential problem nipped in the bud, you’re left with a multitude of questions. If the Grey Knight(s) were this “clever,” did the remaining two really die? Did word of your exploits make it out of the system? Where did you go from here? What would you do with Ysai Ydumee? Could the Rogue Trader be a better Brass Herald than Proditus? Why did he end up siding with you over the Imperium? What IS Chicken Scaloppine, and does it go with Blood Wine?

Welcome to Khornette Quest.

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. I like to think I do Chaos and 40k in general justice though. The key thing at the end of the day is to have fun, whatever that means in this instance.

All rolls will go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for, each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

You may burn (i.e. gone forever) 10 infamy to completely reroll a check (i.e. three new 1d100). If you have above 10 infamy, you are allowed a single additional 1d100 roll for any check during a session.

If you have any questions/etc, now’s the time. Otherwise, I’ll push the first update in about 10 minutes.

Excessive meta goes to QTG. Blatant Samefaggotry will be ignored.

By the time Lucius comes back around, Ignitrix has waved away the illusion she was weaving. Lucius seems torn between whether to ogle Acerea, to eye you, or to faint again. Finally, he decides to cast his gaze in your direction while clutching his forehead with a nervous smile.

“So it seems your radiance is akin to a fire: marvelous to look at… but painful up close."

Your hand holding the wine glass pauses halfway to your mouth. “You have no idea. And you never will.”

“Oh stop tormenting the mortal and have some of this chicken,” Ignitrix chips in as she practically tears into the dish in front of her. “It’s surprisingly good. But then again, I DID specifically arrange for this very bird to be brought on board and cooked JUST the way I like it...”

Acerea takes a bite then cups the side of her face. “My, it IS good, Cinder. Maybe we should do this ‘eating’ thing more often…”

You sigh before slicing yourself a bit of the meat. It’s not the most amazing thing in the Warp, but it is rather tasty. “Isn’t this where Iggy says something about how we’re all daemons and don’t need to?”

“Iggy” coughs and glares at you. “No. If you’re going to using a nickname, at least use ‘Sofh.’”

“Nah, I like ‘Iggy’ better.”

“I hate you.”

“No you don’t.”

She puffs up again before burying herself in her meal. Yep, it was good to be you.

The Rogue Trader remained quiet throughout this back and forth. It’s good that he knows better than to interrupt, but you needed to know where his loyalties lie.

“So, Captain Rosmalen…”

“To you, my dear, I am simply Lucius.”

Okay maybe he DOESN’T know better. “No. You’re basically on borrowed time at the moment until I understand why you were working with a Grey Knight and why you decided to side with us.” You punctuate the remark with a low, warning growl. This causes the Rogue Trader’s face to assume a new level of paleness.

“W-Well the former was because three of them showed up out of the blue and took my Navigator hostage,” he stammers. “The later is because, well…” He just stares at you pointedly. This mortal.

“Three?” you ask, looking over at Ignitrix. Despite being absorbed with her chicken, she takes the hint.

“There was only the one here, I’m sure of it.”

“So then where are the other two?”

Lucius pipes up. “They said something about visiting one of Ydumee’s moons. I think there’s an astropath station there.”

So there were still two Grey Knights in the wild then. And they’re probably trying to get a word of warning and a call for aid out of the system. What to do…

>>

We check on the number on the left, but get degrees of success from the number on the right. And yes, they did change. Whether that was last session or not, I do not remember.
>>
>>34960844
>>34960885
mind explaining to the retards among us?
>>
>>34960903
I just did. We try and roll underneath the number in the Characteristics category. If we do, we get the degrees of success based on the effective characteristic category.(one degree of success for every 10 beneath the test)
>>
>>34960970
mind giving me a practical example? I'm not seeing how it would work in practise
>>
>>34960903
Dark Heresy/Black Crusade changed how the d100 rolls are handled.
You have to roll under a Characteristic with Modifier for a Check, but now you roll under the tens value, and your potential Degrees of Success are determined by the ones value.
>>
>>34961030
Let's say we want to roll a strength test.
I roll a d100.

Let's say the result is 21.

So as we see, my roll came in below 42, meaning I have succeeded. Now we look at the number of degrees of success to see how well I succeeded.
If we didn't have unnatural strength we would only have beat the score by 20 (42-22), meaning 2 degrees of success. Since we do have unnatural strength, we would have beaten it by 60 (82-22), for a whopping 6 degrees of success.

If I instead rolled a 50 on a d100, I would not have succeeded on the test in the first place, as it is above 42.
>>
>>34960450

You decide to push that worry aside for the moment. Even if the Knights still had the Inferno’s Navigator, at least you knew where they were hiding. Plus a little infamy via Astropath choir wailing never hurt anyone. Well except the psykers involved. But that’s not your problem.

“I’ll deal with them in due time,” you say as you remember to take a sip of the Grey Knight’s blood. “I’m a bit concerned with your motives though, Captain. Because if you’re after me as a sort of reward…”

“Well, I would be lying if I said it wasn’t on my mind.” He winks. “But no, I have several reasons besides that.”

“Such as…?”

“I’d like my Navigator back for one. Space Marines have a habit of taking my toys away. I also have my eyes on several Space Hulks, ripe for the plundering.”

Ignitrix rolls her eyes in conjunction with you. “So it’s about profit then?” she asks. “Why am I not surprised…”

Lucius seems insulted. “It’s ALWAYS about profit. Even if that profit is a certain Inquisitor’s…”

You cut him off with a raised hand. “No. Continue.”

“Well it’s no secret that a Space Hulk is a dangerous place. Who better to help me strip it bare than the person I want to strip…”

Another growl causes him to eep and switch tact. “A-And of course, war is ALWAYS profitable! You can charge triple, quadruple, even more than that for supplies if you just happen to be in the right place at the right time.”

“So what you’re saying is, you want to hire me, us?”

“My dear Cinder, I’d follow you into the depths of hell itself if it meant I could but gaze at your…”

This. Mortal.

But at least that’s one more question answered. Plus you might now have a lead on a new destination whenever you’re done here.

Ignoring the rest of Lucius’ drivel, you look over at Ignitrix. “I don’t suppose we could just portal the Navigator out?”

She stops eating and visibly gives it some thought. “Normally I’d say no due to the amount of Warp protection devices an Astropathic Relay has. But this chicken’s put me in a good mood. I can do a little timeline manipulation such that the wards are nothing more than a child’s scribblings.”

“That’s… surprisingly useful. What about the Grey Knights though?”

“Eh. No real way to tell what they’re doing, or have done, from here. I’m good, but I’m not that good. The Materium is slightly annoying like that.”

You mull that over another sip of Blood Wine. Using Ignitrix wouldn’t be as glorious as slaying the Knights in person but it would let you get on to bigger and better things. Plus you’re pretty sure blowing a moon out of orbit still means you get to claim the skulls of anyone on it for Khorne.

In my head I imagine that more combat-oriented Greater Daemons have their combat forms and their casual forms, it's just Khornate Daemons are ALL COMBAT ALL THE TIME.

So in my head, Casual would be the same, except stronger, taller, better in every way, but COMBAT form...well....I feel silly for saying it but Fem-Diablo is the best mental image I have.

Ignitrix sets her silverware down and goes blank-eyed once again. While she’s away, you take the opportunity to chat with Acerea.

“So where do you think we should go?”

She tilts her head to the side and places a finger upon her chin. “My, it’s been awhile since someone’s asked me for my opinion directly. Let’s see… I suppose I’ve always wanted to toy around with some Tyranids. They would be lovely specimens for Lazerus as well. But if you want something more ‘realistic,’ I’m fine with exploring a Space Hulk.”

“Tyranids, huh? Dare I even ask why?”

“They’re simply ADORABLE!”

“Uh huh…” you sigh while looking over at Ignitrix. She’s returned to here and now and is currently fabricating a portal in the fabric of reality. “I suppose it’s something to consider though.”

With a popping noise, the tear opens. Ignitrix reaches a clawed hand through, rummages around for a bit, then removes a rather disheveled looking Navigator. A few bolter shells from what you assume are the Grey Knights whizz by but she’s unfazed.

“Here you are, Captain Rosmalen. One Navigator free of charge,” Ignitrix says. “And for my next trick…” She conjures up a massive ball of fire in her hand and chucks it through the portal. The sound of a massive blast emanates from it, then silence. “Toasted Grey Knight. Though I can’t say it’ll be as good as the chicken. Speaking of, my plate seems to be empty…”

As Lucius scrambles to order his servants to bring her seconds, the Navigator stares wide-eyed at the scene. He ends up crumpling on the spot due to shock, but seems to be otherwise unharmed. You’d give Iggy a head pat later.

Producing your vox unit, you ring up Proditus. “I have a mission for you and Small-Horn. No, you can’t worm your way out of it. Either of you. There’s an Astropathic Relay Station on one of the moons. Go there, strip it bare, then set it to broadcast some gibberish until it stops working. Maybe even throw in a message or two about a malfunction so any previous messages are ignored.”

“As you wish, Mistress…”

When the vox clicks to symbolize his disconnect, Lucius exhales rather loudly. “Oh how I wish to one day also have the privilege of calling you Mistress…”

“Iggy, Acerea, we’re leaving. As for you Captain Rosmalen…” You point a single claw, sparking with warp energy, at him.”You will wait for my instructions as to our next destination. No, we don’t need an escort back to our shuttle. Iggy remembers the way.”

“But my chicken!”

“What are you a mortal?”

“I used to be!”

“Oh… right… Wrap it up then or something.”

It doesn’t take long for the three of you to get back to your shuttle and on your way back to the Raptor. On the way, you chat further with your daemon cohorts about your next destination…

He's referring for their love of butchering themselves for the hell of it, often becoming cyborgs in the process.

>>34964342

He forgot to mention that they are more primitive and actually less intelligent than the orks, but are fucking deadly in spite of that.

I mean, god damn, their premiere close combat weapon besides simple blades and claws are Rad Axes, and THOSE are basically power weapons that leak nuclear radiation in the immediate vicinity.

Oh yeah, some of their more cybernetic guys end up taking psykers hostages, and then turning their psyker-brainmeats into cyborg parts and then fusing them to themselves and that basically makes low-tier daemons shit themselves in terror.

Rak'Gols, one of the few truly original 40k species, are basically rocks fall everyone dies wrapped in a package that makes you underestimate them, mainly the fact that their technology is fucking laughably primitive in comparison to even the FUCKING ORKS.

“So,” you begin, “would you agree that our biggest problem at the moment is having to rely on this antiquated Imperium technology?”

“Among other things,” replies Ignitrix. “Such as the fact you’re still not fully in the Materium yet. And that we have all of two ships in our little troop.”

“You would agree then that our best course of action is to head to a Warp Storm? Perhaps the most infamous of them all?”

Acerea giggles. “You want to go try and loot an old Eldar world? My, someone’s bold.”

You grin. “Bold is what I do.”

The feathered daemon shakes her head. “If it didn’t kill… three birds with one stone, I’d be against it. But it DOES seem like a good course of action. How do you plan to sell the Rogue Trader on it though?”

“To be honest, I figured it’d be a good test of his loyalty and drive. Either the lure of pre-fall, priceless treasures will be enough to keep him from panicking about the Chaos around him, or Acerea can go on one of her corruption sprees.” The plaguebearer beams at that. “Regardless, the Inferno is coming with us.”

Ignitrix shrugs. “I guess I’ll go research the proper rituals to stabilize your presence here. That and which worlds haven’t been plundered yet. I doubt the databases on either ship will be of much use though. We may have to stop by a Craftworld or something similar along the way. They’d know for sure.”

Killing Eldar? You could do that. They’d be more of a challenge than the best the Imperium had to offer for sure. “It’s a long journey either way. We’re bound to run into something I’m sure. Unless you plan on keeping us in-Warp the entire way.”

“Nah. The Navigator over there wouldn’t be able to keep up with me. Best to stick to the normal ‘drop out every week or so to check locations’ standard operating procedure.”

“Does that mean we don’t need my little tree anymore? Should I move him?”

“That’d be best, yes.”

“Alright then~”

The venerations from those in the medbay has made you rather curious as to what exactly is going on in the Pits. From the injuries you saw, you know they’re operating in true Khorne fashion. Or at least they’re sufficiently brutal to weed out the weaklings. What you don’t know is why you’re involved in the combatant’s mythos. Even though the Raptor is small in comparison to the Inferno, it’s large enough of a vessel that very few even know of your existence. Those that do are largely in your direct employ. So why…

Pondering what could be ahead of you, you wander towards the upper decks where the pits are located. By the time you reach the deck below you’re already able to pick up the cheers of a crowd. To your amusement, you eventually come upon two lines heading into two archways. The first is for spectators, the second for combatants. Both seem to be offering the mortals a chance at a reward if the signage is any indiciation. The former takes the form of betting and Throne Gelts. The latter, however, is more complicated. There’s Gelt involved here as well, but just observing the would-be combatants tells you they’re not here for that. If you had to guess, they’re here for the Glory of what comes with surviving fifty rounds in the arena. Of the many prizes listed, it’s the only one that offers a clue as to how you’re involved.

The prize board simply states:

“50 ROUND SURVIVAL = HER APPROVAL”

If Acerea was here, you’re pretty sure she’d have a choice remark of the “my my” variety.

So far, no one’s noticed you. Or, rather, you’ve done a rather good job of masking your presence in the back corridors and shadows. Not entirely intentional, of course, but enough that you might be able to sneak into the arena should you so wish.

Like "You're on my personal bodyguard team" approval.
All of these guys and girls have been relatively ignored by us, approval in any way is good, it doesn't have to be sexual ALL the time.

>>34966573

>>
>>34966573

>>34966659
Not even Small-Horn has that. Come to think of it, only Acerea, Ignitrix, Lazerus, Wormbag, and Silent have Cinder's approval as "not failures"
>>
>>34966692
>it doesn't have to be sexual
Despite the " I hadn't thoght they meant that, actually, but he probably did.
But Cinder doesn't want a bodyguard team, whats the point of warriors that keep the fighting away from her ? If anything they can serve as Cohorts to make sure the enemies get herded to her.
>>
>>34966723
I think there's three levels of approval here.

Failures - Everyone in the arena right now,

Approved - People like the RT, will tolerate to have around and use to her own will

Approved MK.2 - People we have near us most of the time

Since when ? Last I remember he did anything was letting himself be captured and be used as shield against us ? When did we give him our approval and for what ?

Especially not Small-Horn.

But yeah thats kind of my point, Cinders approval should require more than slapping around some apes.

>>
So Iggy is a Lady because she was a girl in her humanity. What reasons could Cinder and Acerea have for being women? Maybe Isha could have something to do with Acerea, and Cinder might be a bride for one of Khorne's champions.
>>
>>34966822
That list is just nonsense. Either they have our approval or not.
The Rt doesn't have our approval just because he shat himself in fear of Cinder more then he did of the Grey Knight. He is useful nothing more.
The other stuff is our allies, which is only Ignitrix and Acarea.

>>34966467

You step into the main corridor and clear your throat. Those in close proximity to you practically leap out of the way once they realize the source of the noise. The rest you clear with a few words. “Her approval? Hmph. I suppose it is high time I showed up after all.”

The humans part immediately, leaving you an easy path to either archway. You look between them both, finally deciding upon the spectator side. The moment you do, a cultist in red robes appears from a side passageway.

“Ah, Blood Mistress. I wish you would have told us you were coming. We would have planned fights worthy of view…”

“In other words, puffery,” you interrupt. “If I wanted that I’d pit Small Horn against the Commissar. Now what is it you want? You’re in my way of viewing the fights.”

“That’s just it, Mistress. I’m here to take you to your own personal booth.”

“My what?”

“If you would, just follow me. It affords you a far better range of vision over all the pits and comes with a vox should you so wish to broadcast a message. I daresay those gathered would love to hear a few words.”

Slightly annoyed, you otherwise allow the man to lead on. He leads you up a long, winding flight of stairs to a grand booth that overlooks all eight pits. It has a series of reclining chairs, a throne of sorts, and a small pool of blood which you assume is modelled after your own personal bloodbath. In addition there’s several microphones, one for each pit as well as one that broadcasts to them all. Before you step more than a foot inside two booming voices echo throughout the deck.

“Ladies and Gentlemen. Your benefactor has decided to grace you with her presence.”

“Pwweeze diwekt your attenshion to Madam Cinderr!”

The moment you step into view the crowd erupts into a greater fervor. You hold up a hand, then reach down and pick up the microphone.
>>
>>34967514
DUNNO. SLAANESH IS PROBABLY FAPPING. TZEENTCH IS TEARING HIS PUSSY FACEFEATHERS OUT WITH ALL THE PLANWRECKING CINDER'S CAUSED WHEN HE AND NURGLE ARE RECUPERATING FROM THE FACT THAT THEY HAVE WOMEN OTHER THAN VALKIA AND ISHA IN THEIR PATHETIC LIVES.
>>
>>34967588

“I suppose you want some sort of motivating speech. You’re not going to get one. Instead, I’ll tell you this: Whomever wishes to challenge me shall gain more than "my approval." If they survive for more than two minutes, that is."

If you thought the crowd was in a blood fury before…

Crone Worlds was about on the same level as Hive Fleet.

8-10 depending on how Leeroy you are.

So you know which Crone World is the best to loot. Plus where they actually are. The Imperium doesn't have good notes. Well, the Ordo Xenos does but you didn't have one of those Inquisitors.

All of them plus maybe a cameo or two.

>>34967962

Chaos Sisters like that are silly. Just stick your good female champions in power armor and give them flamers.
>>
>>34968018
>The Imperium doesn't have good notes.
They're in the Eye of a Terror, we can ask our Lady of change to read the damn warp, it's not hard.
A craftworld easily smashes 10 battle barges, we dont have anywhere near that strength, how do you propose we win that out?
>>
>>34967984
Oh, like food and junk, right? We can just warp away a few agri-worlds to a far out system then.

>>
>>34968456
Actually, not pussy-whipped, so mich as blue-balled from how much the Inquisitor was leading her on and making big promises of what could happen later. That Filigree was able to work out some frustration with a power claw on those other daemonette bitches who made fun of her for being a nerd. That part was fun!

We're going to use the cultists as a big distractionary invasion force, while the ships hang back and dodge, and the main party does the important shit that needs doing.

>>34968517
Indeed, but it was more that Quizy was so busy that she couldn't spend time with Filigree like that, but Filigree was a daemonette of curiosity and that surrounded Delessa, so she soul bound herself to Quizy to experience the sheer crazy and revel in the mysteries
>>
>>34968545
Well, yeah. I just want to maximize the damage they can deal for the greater glory of Khorne while they're at it.

Chaos Eldar are a thing, a remnant from the RT days and second edition. Most of them are just some kind of zombies, soulless husks that are somehow still 'alive' and attempting to indulge in their pre-Fall hedonistic tendencies.

There are however a rare few "exceptions" amongst them, utterly corrupted Eldars who somehow managed to keep hold of their souls and pledge themselves wholly to She-Who-Thirsts. They are rated amongst her most vile servants and most powerful champions.
