/tg/ - Traditional Games

Memories flicker like fantastic phantasms. Like a shattered mirror, each shard showing a different visage. Then they fall, fall, fall.

Reaching outward. Grasping. Trying to hold on to these moments in time, unwilling to let them slip away like water through a sieve.

You wake up on a moonlit beach. Waves lap at your ankles. Everything is sore, but the sort of soreness and bone-deep weariness as when waking from a nap. You wipe caked-on sand from your face and shake it out of your hair.

You stand up, salt-crusted trousers creaking with the motion. It truly is a beautiful night. An indigo sky melts into a wine-dark sea at the horizon. A strange vapor drifts into your nose. Foul, but not altogether unfamiliar.

The sky behind you is bathed in yellow fire. It reminds you of winter nights in a far-off land. A crown on a metropolis. Buildings larger than you could ever imagine buildings being. Everything pulsing with myriad sparks of life.

You set out towards it, knowing no better and think about the difficulty of the journey to come.

My familiarity with this animu comes from a fanfic where the dudes from Call Of Duty infiltrate the city and proceed to open up a can of tacticool Whup-Ass. The fic is sadly dead, but the idea always gave me warm fuzzies.

You trudge onward. Bare feet dig into sand, then dirt, then this strange rocklike substance. On further inspection, you see that it must have been constructed by an architect's hand. It's so precise and yet casual. As if such an occurrence were not worth mentioning. Looking back, you can see how a human touch has turned this beach into something built for human purposes. Artificial. A brave new world.

You remain on the path, remaining observant for sharp shards and waste that you know ought to be present on streets. Such an instant understanding makes you feel comfortable. Like a thick coat in blizzard.

Blazing will-o-the-wisps flare in every edifice. You marvel. It seems familiar, but somehow distinct. Torches without fire. This truly is a city of light. Large, stinking contraption trundle past on painted roads.

You stand in awe. You can't remember why you feel that you ought to be impressed (a somewhat troubling notion), but gladly gape. Like a barbarian in the palace of a civilized land.

“You look lost, kid,” a woman says.

You turn around and spy a tall, raven-haired beauty in a sultry dress leaning on you. Her face is flushed red and her breath smells of liquor.

“Maybe you need someone to show you around town.”

It doesn't feel like seduction. Just genuine generosity from a stranger. You can appreciate that in your heart of hearts.

You smile and let her drag you along into this maze of blazing multicolored light. No cathedral could compare. You let your impromptu guide drunkenly ramble for some time.

“By the way, you can call me Kazehana.”

“That's a pretty name,” you say.

“You flatterer,” she says. Smirking and chuckling.

All in good fun. She drags you into a bar and grabs orders herself a bottle of some liquor called 'sake.' The lights are dim. Some slow music, smooth as molasses but grimy as the underbelly of a city, winds its way through the air. Wailing chords from an instrument you've never heard. Aromatic smoke clings to the place like a shroud. Men and women sitting on stools. Some are playing and toasting. Others, wrapped up in dark jackets, smoke while waiting for their next drink.

“Hey kid,” says the bartender, a gruff older man with a waxed moustache, “You got an ID.”

“Come on now, whip it out,” says Kazehana, “It should be in your pants.”

You stick your hands in your pockets and find nothing. You shrug. You don't know what they want or why you can't have a drink.

Several minutes later, you find yourself squatting outside the establishment.

“So kid, how old are you?”

You can't recall. Thinking about it hurts.

“Do you have a name, kiddo?”

You remember something. Perhaps it was just a sign. You doubt it's even your name, but that isn't something you remember either.

“I don't know,” you say, “I can't remember. It's been a whirlwind of new things.”

She flickers between skepticism and warmth. You continue squatting, exhausted by sensory overload.

“Well, I don't want to keep calling you a kid.”

You raise an eyebrow, daring her to come up with some pithy nickname. She clutches at her head, groaning about how she's too drunk to be clever. Too cute.

“Alright, Kiddo it is. Do you have somewhere to get back to, Kiddo?”

“No. I'm new here,” you say.

A cocky smile comes unbidden to your lips. So this is the next great adventure?

She sighs, “Well, I'll just take you home with me Kiddo. Then we can sober up and figure this out.”

“If I can get something stiff in me, that would be just fantastic.”

“Well maybe,” she says, “But the landlady is a real demon.”

She shudders to recall. Just as you go to follow her, you turn back.

You look back and see a dark figure on a distant roof. Distance? Perhaps five-hundred paces. Then, like a specter it disappears. No, that's not right. That person jumped onto a building, climbing swiftly up the rails and ladders. Once upon the roof, the figure veritably glides through the air until coming to rest on a new building. Distance: three-hundred paces, give or take.

There's something different here. Like the difference between a burning candle and burning alcohol. One burns an entirely different hue.

You instincts tell you to pursue. To become the hunter. You're already calculating a path through this urban jungle.

An energy you did not previously possess burns through your veins. Readied like a tightly coiled spring. It would feel so good.

But that's wrong. You know nothing. Why, then, plunge into the darkness?

“There's someone back there,” you say to Kazehana.

She turns back, on an edge. A certain erectness of posture. The measured way she sweeps her head over the area. You recognize these instincts and habits. But the presence, that rogue in the night, is gone.

“It's nothing, Kiddo,” she says while she hails one of those strange vehicles. The door opens, and she ushers you inside onto padded seats. The interior is cool. But how?

The purrs roars as it goes off. Lights turn into blurring streaks. You don't want to miss one moment of this.

“You're pretty cute when you act like a country bumpkin,” says Kazehana, slightly slurring her speech.

You don't have anything to say to that.

Eventually, it rolls to a stop outside a fenced enclosure. The compound is the most normal building you've seen so far. Some moisture clings to the tiled roof. Humble. Homey. Two words you would not use to describe the beautiful bird at your side.

Getting out, you let Kazehana lean on you as you make your way to the gate. She spends some time fumbling for a key in her purse. The gate unlatches, and you enter. You practically carry her up the stairs despite her childish protests. Eventually, you get her into a room she says is hers.

“C'mon, Kiddo, stay here,” says Kazehana.

“C'mon Kiddo, it'll be fun!” she says, scooting over on her bedroll and patting the empty space.

You drag your feet on the floor before laying down next to her. She at once wraps her arms around you.

“I'm going to hug you and squeeze you and call you Kiddo all night long,” she slurs.

She pulls you close and starts to drool on your shoulder. One hand starts to go under your shirt. She traces random patterns over your trim stomach.

“Ah, Kiddo,” Kazehana whispers into your ear.

She snuggles in closer. Her long, creamy leg is now wrapped around you. For now, you'll just go to sleep. Consequences and libido be damned.

Morning comes. Warmth that creeps inch by inch in marching rows through the blinds. You don't want to leave this comfortable bed. You crane your neck around to see that Kazehana is no longer clinging to you. Her hair and purple dress are disheveled. Her chest slowly rises and falls. She looks so beautiful.

You don't know how she'll react now that she's sobered up. Nor do you want to overstay your welcome.

You prop yourself up on your elbow and wait. You immerse yourself in simplicity of the white walls of the room. It exudes a sense of calm and order in an unordered world. The perfect space for an individual.

You watch motes of dust catch the lights as they float around. Simplicity is good.

“Ah, my head hurts.”

Kazehana is now awake.

“Good morning, Kiddo,” she says, “I was almost expecting to get to sleep a little later than I did. Then again, I don't know what you like.”

What a smirk. You can't help but smile.

“Really now? Go on in detail. I didn't mean to disappoint you.”

She smiles and then tosses the pillow in your face. Then she pins you down.

“Well, it would start something like this.”

There's a polite knock at the door, and Kazehana is kicking you out of the bedroll and making herself more presentable. That was how you were first introduced to the landlady.

Do you plan on making this a quality quest? If so you should. It's decently common for quests to be archived though autists obsessed with bitching about quests sometimes misarchive threads if you draw their ire for whatever asinine reason.

Okay. I just have a kneejerk feeling that archiving my own threads is self-aggrandizing.

Trousers and a shirt, both of which look archaic. The sort of thing one might find at a Rennaisance fair

>What do we look like?
A bit tall (5'9"-5'10") with long, squared-off face. Thick, auburn hair roughly brushed back. Brown eyes.

>Are we buff or strong?
The sort of bearmode that one might find on a rugby player

Do we remember anything at all?
Some things are going to start filtering back, but not yet. The 'Acy' option was a reference to something in my notes that I discarded while planning the quest as it now appears.

You're welcome

>>34711464
Yes, but it's more of an expansion than changing things. The MC and his origins are definitely something different.

Alright this is something i can kinda work with... for now

Thanks for running.
When might you run again. I'm interested in where this might be going.

>For now

In the sense of "I want some more answer later" or "you're treading a thin line between interesting and wank?"
>>
>>34711969
If he's like me it's sort of 'curiosity satisfied enough to keep interest'.
>>
>>34711969
Don't know about him but for me... It's Sekirei so I think the second one always applies. But It's interesting at the moment
>>
>>34711969
Not that anon but i'd say both because every fanfic, quest or not, can very easily go from interesting to retarded and we haven't really seen enough to establish where this'll fall.

Still, you have a decent start and i'm looking forward to the next thread.
>>
>>34712174
I genuinely Sekirei and its characters. I wanted to have fun in the setting.

>>34712221
That's an absolutely understandable sentiment.

Now, I'd like to ask a question to all of you. What do you think I can do better?
>>
>>34712344
First thread so I'm not entirely sure yet. Nothing too terribly egregious stands out at the moment. More threads are required for a larger sample size.
>>
>>34711969
Don't know about that anon but as i've seen your posts in /qtg/, I'm really on the edge about whether or not i should keep looking or prepare for crash but i'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.

>>34712344
Your prose is kind of questionable. A lot of the text sounds like you're just listing things that happen which makes it rather dry to read. Try writing longer and more descriptive sentences.
>>
>>34712539
Fair enough. Things have changed a lot since my initial /qtg/ posts, but what I posted doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

I've done staccato streams of fragments before for a fairly atmospheric result. Thanks for pointing out that they might not work here. I suppose getting it to work is a matter of polish for which I simply lack the time
>>
>>34712637
Fragments tend to work badly in quest because the effect it creates makes somewhat still images when you are supposed to convey what a person sees, hears, smells and feels at the same time.

Using more adjectives when telling what someone is doing can make them more alive. Actually, you may be better off not telling what people are doing but describing it.

Appreciate the advice

I just caught up on this, you've got my interest OP
