You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

It turns out that some more trouble brewed over in Marconetti after you and the others returned, and Marius found himself caught right in the middle of it. Though Celestino managed to settle that particular incident himself, it seems that it was also the main reason behind the borders being closed.

At least Citrine and her husband were able to get back before then.

>Congratulations, you are now a timid LLAMA!
>Llamas are strong and hardy... but also rather skittish.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while llamas may be majestic, they still don't count as people.

While the others go about checking out whatever it is that interests them, you resume looking at Marius's sketchbook. Turning away from the picture of the traitorous guard captain, you go back to the drawing hat Marius had meant to show you from the start.

"Huh," you mumble as you take a look at the sketch. "What's this supposed to be? It looks kind of abstract."

It's a sketch of what looks like flowers... or are they snowflakes? Their "petals" are drifting off, increasing in shape and darkening the more they move away from the flowers.

Or at least that's what you THINK is going on here.

"Oh yeah..." Marius says, leaning in to see the picture. "That one was inspired by your duel."
"It was?" you ask.
"Yup," he nods. "The way you shattered the outer shell of the other guy's Sealed King to reveal the true blade underneath... that sword's name means something along the lines of 'blue snow flower' so that's where I got the idea to have flowers there..."
"And the dark petals?"
"That was to signify your own sword's shattering, once the ice melted it reminded me of scattered flower petals in the same..."

Suddenly he realizes just what it is that he's brought up.

"...dammit, I'm sorry," Marius says, covering his face with a hand. "I really don't consider what might be offensive when I draw, and that's particularly what got you caught up in that duel to start with," he mumbles.

"Still though," Marius sighs. "Citrine told me about your sword, and it..."
"About that," you say, smiling as a certain idea comes to mind. But first, a certain someone should probably be here to bear witness as well. "Hey Citrine!" you call out.
"Huh?" Citrine cuts a conversation with Melanie to turn to you. "What is it?"
"come over here for a minute, I have something to show you!"
"Umm, okay?"

As Citrine walks over to where you and Marius are, Nicolette and Melanie follow her.

"Marius didn't show you something weird, did he?" Citrine asks. glaring at her husband.
"No, that's not it," you shake your head. "I just thought that you might want to see this too."

With both people present, you unfasten the scabbard from your belt and hold it up so that the others can see it properly.

"Huh?" Citrine blinks a few times. "Isn't that..."
"Yup!" you say as you fully remove it from the scabbard. "Look familiar?"
"Wh- But how-" Citrine gasps. "It was in pieces before but now it's totally fixed! Did you go to a blacksmith!?"
"...this doesn't look like a repair job, though..." Marius says as he leans in close to the blade's edge.

"Nope," you shake your head. "Sylvie had an idea to use an experimental bracelet that I had in order to fix it, and then the castle archmage actually did it himself."
"Whoa, really?"
"Reinhold, that's great!" Citrine says, approaching like she's about to hug you only to stop mid-approach because you're kind of holding a deadly weapon.

At least she's being more careful than usual.

"I know you're happy to have it back in one piece," Citrine says with a warm smile. "It meant a lot to you, after all..."
"Yup," you nod. "and now -someone-," you turn to Marius, "doesn't have to feel guilty about it anymore.

I stopped reading at the end of the Marconetti arc, but judging from the thread descriptions, literally NOTHING important has happened in like four months. NOTHING.

The pacing used to be okay (even during the aforementioned arc, where events took like 10 - 20 threads to resolve but at least things were happening), but this is becoming like the unholy child of DBZ and like, Questionable Content or something as far as pacing goes.

While the the others watch on in confusion, you concentrate on your sword and try to will it to do a certain thing...

"Huh?" Citrine backs away from you. "Reinhold, what's it doing?"
"I don't know much about swords, but that doesn't seem normal," Marius says with a concerned expression.

While Melanie giggles at the others' reaction to what you're attempting, you resume your work...

"...uh," Nicolette stares at the sword's new shape. "What the hell?"

You were TRYING to make a flower pattern in the blade, but the best you could manage is a single crude flower-ish thing on its center. It looks kind of the kind of thing you'd see from a five-year-old... clearly this isn't the type of art that you're suited to.

"Crap," you grumble as you put the sword back to normal and sheath it. "So much for showing off."

Dejected about your failed attempt to brag, you refasten the scabbard to its resting place on your belt... and are immediately accosted by Citrine.

"OH MY GOD REINHOLD THAT WAS AMAZING YOU SWORD'S LIKE MAGIC NOW I'M SO JEALOUS!!!" Citrine stammers, her eyes speaking with wonder.
"Uh, thanks?" you reply, laughing nervously as your pregnant sister grabs you by the shoulders and rocks you back and forth.
"Th... that was definitely something..." Marius says, smiling in a similar to another glasses-wearing person you know. "How exactly did you do that, anyways?"
"It reacts to my thoughts. But I guess it's a lot less responsive in sword form after all..."
"Er, would you mind letting me try it out? If it responds to the wielder's thoughts, I can only imagine the types of sculptures that I could-"
"Sorry, I can't," you shake your head.

You feel bad for shattering his dreams like that, but some things just can't be done.

"Crap," Marius sighs. "State secret, right?"
"No," you reply. "...well, it might actually be one now that you mention it... but it only reacts to me."
"Oh. So much for that, I guess."

Suddenly, he slaps you on the shoulder.

"But you've given me a TON of inspiration just now, so that's more than enough!" Marius laughs.

Though a sword is definitely out of the question, Marius would probably be really happy to get his hands on a bracelet like the one that you and Karel have. Sadly, there -is- that whole possibility of this stuff being a state secret. And even on the odd chance that it isn't, it'd still up to Niklaus whether he'd even want Marius to have one.

Still though, it can't hurt to at least ask if he could have one, right? Better keep that to yourself for now, though... No sense in getting Marius's hopes up for naught, after all.

Putting that idea on your mental "to-do" list, you spend the next hour or so getting a proper tour of the atelier courtesy of the Lanzmanns. Marius gives all five of you a full rundown of each and every piece of art in his studio, including when and where he was when he got the inspiration to create each piece.

And then you get to the wall of Citrine pictures... and he proceeds to embarrass his wife thoroughly by rattling off an exact list of the date and place that he drew or painted them.

It's pretty clear that she's still his favorite subject.

>[1/?]
>>
>>34404227

Reinhold and Luciana better outdo them in the sickening sweethearts department once they're married.

Though I'd be afraid that Marie would never want to marry after that.
>>
'Kay so sword showing off is done (for now, until we run into somebody else)

When we're out of the Lanzmann's we need to remember to buy gifts for the ladies as per Big King T's generous bag o' dosh.

-We're getting pastries for Marianne (anyone remember what her favorite thing was?) might be worth checking in on the Wilhelm's to place our big (or personalized) order and then picking it up fresh at the end of the day. Also might want Luci to help us a pick out a book she'll like or get another plushy llama or something

-I think a few people talked about seeing if there was a grimoire shop for Luci, that would certainly cheer her up after seeing the Clemens Daimler sketches

-Melanie said that she wanted to come into town to go looking at clothes and jewelry, so that's kind of straight forward

-Nicolette's being her usual difficult self because she didn't come into town for anything particular and's only here because Meido made her. Maybe she'd like some jewelry or something, maybe she'd just be happy stuffing her face if we let her pick where we eat. I dunno, she's sort of an enigma, a hard to buy for enigma.
>>
>>34404466

Problem with Nico is that we already got her jewelry early in the quest and that it's kind of her girlfriend's role to give away that now. And maybe Meido doesn't have as much money as ourselves, though she could.

Once the atelier tour is finished, Citrine proceeds to show off the actual non-art-related parts of their apartment. And just like you suspected, Citrine's the one who's responsible for decorating the entire place. She did a pretty good job of it, too.

"We're thinking of making this room into the baby's," Citrine says, pointing to an unused guest room," but that's a long way off and we might end up moving before then..."
"This place is too small?" you ask.
"Kind of?" she shrugs. "I dunno, it just feels kind of weird to live in an apartment when we have more than enough to buy a big fancy mansion right now... well not as fancy as Grandma's, but you know what I mean."
"Yeah," you nod.
"And if we get a mansion then we have to worry about hiring help to maintain the grounds and all that and I dunno if I want to have to deal with that."
"I dunno, my Mom takes care of all that stuff and our place is pretty big," Nicolette shrugs.
"Your mother also happens to be one of the most powerful mages in the kingdom," Melanie says, shaking her head in embarrassment.

>>34404521
Yeah, I'm not too sure about jewelry because we might be paying for some if Melanie picks it out anyway and it'd be nice to getting something unique for all of them and because we got it earlier, I wouldn't want it to feel kind of "routine" but I think it's worth considering as an option.

I bet the moment everyone realize Karel is a girl they'll take a good hard look at her and Marianne and go "waaaait a minute".

And then Reinhold has no idea what people are talking about.
>>
The Wilhelm's know what Marianne usually orders but she's pretty bright so she'll be expecting that. What surprise treat should we try and get?
Is a cake shaped like a cute llama too much to ask for?

"Anyone getting hungry?" you ask.
"YES," Nicolette blurts out the second you're done talking.
"Of course you are," Melanie sighs.
"And I suppose you are as well?" Luciana asks.
"Well I wouldn't have said anything if I wasn't hungry in the first place," you shrug.

Seriously, appreciating the arts builds up an appetite.

"Well if any of you have an idea of where we can go, I'm paying," you say.
"Eh?" Nicolette stares at you. "You don't have to do that, I can pay for my own food..."
"Nope, it's fine," you shake your head. "I've been given a royal decree to show you all a good time, and so I shall," you say, bowing to her with a flourish.

And once you lift your head, Nicolette smacks you.

"Oh yeah, since you're not from here..." you nod. "Citrine?"
"Hm?" she turns to you. "Sorry, I was too busy watching your friends there playing around..."

Nicolette's rubbing her side, it looks like Melanie elbowed her in retribution for smacking you. Silently, you nod to her in appreciation.

"Do you have any suggestions?" you ask. "I don't exactly get out much, but you and Marius live in the neighborhood so I'm sure you two know somewhere good to eat."
"Umm, I guess so," Citrine shrugs. "You want Marius to draw you up a map?"

"My little brother can be VERY insistent in his niceness," Citrine says, kissing you on the cheek.

You learned it from the best.

"Since it's decided," you say, "where should we go?"
"Uh..." Marius scratches his head and looks around before stopping on Takamaru. "There's a decent Eastern-style restaurant not too far from here, how about that?"

Looks like it's storytime. Hopefully this isn't something that ends with her father about to kill someone.

"Yeah," Nicolette begins. "Me and Sylvie went to a restaurant with her parents, and he ordered a TON of these little fish rice things... they were pretty good."
"Sushi?" Takamaru asks.
"Yeah, that's what it was called!" she snaps her fingers. "So Vincent was packing them away while the rest of us ate less, umm... monster-like."
"I find that hard to believe, considering that you and Sylvie were there," Melanie smirks.
"Yeah, whatever," she sighs. "ANYWAYS, these Eastern guys sitting behind us started cracking jokes in their language and Vincent got right pissed off since he's fluent in it."

What?

"Wait, really?" you ask, surprised to hear that.
"Yeah, him and Thierri and the rest of them went ALL over the place back before we were born," Nicolette nods. "So I guess they were calling him a bear since the fish things were salmon and he's huge... but Vincent fucking HATES bears."

"Of course," Luciana sighs.
"And the restaurant got wrecked and Sylvie's mom had to foot the bill and apologize to the owners and that was the last time I had Eastern food," she shrugs.
"Luckily, Sir Vincent won't be joining us this time around," Melanie sighs.

3. Luciana
4. Reya
5. Sylvie?
6. Nicolette

Nicolette wants to do so after she makes Knight, and Sylvie will join her the minute that happens. That's been the plan since they were tiny little girls.

Reinhold - probably wouldn't mind

With Marius's odd show of approval out of the way, the rest of the walk to the Wilhelms' bakery is rather calm. No weirdoes in the street spouting nonsense, no drunken brawls in the street, just a nice peaceful walk with your friends to buy delicious cakes.

You enter the bakery first, followed by the others... Mr. Wilhelm seems to be really surprised to see this many people enter his store all at once, but then he smiles when he sees just who it is that's come to visit.

"Oh hey, if it isn't mister bodyguard!" he says, waving at you. "Marie's not with you today?"
"It was the plan, but she got caught up with some stuff back home," you say, shaking your head.
"Ah, that's a shame," he sighs. "So what can I do for you and your friends, buddy? The usual order?

With the baby holding the sword while you're at it.

But seriously - stop being so pushy.

Going to have to call it a night nere, guys. MY head's killing me and I need to be up kind of early so this is it.

The next thread will either be Tuesday or Wednesday night, and I'll be running False Dendrite.

And now is question time for a little while.

How much freedom do we have here? Would you override a player choice in the name of good storytelling or let the story follow its course, even if it meant a BAD END?

Cheers. Llamas aren't Marianne's favorite animal, are they? Otherwise it's weird that they aren't Highest Rank.

Whenever one of these threads runs late (which is every time) I feel like my sleep schedule is playing Chicken with archelon. I usually lose. Looks like it's a tie tonight, though.

Limb regeneration is a thing, but has anyone ever tried any alternatives? Fancy magic prosthetics, per se.

How much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Depends on what it is and if the character would realistically do it.

Nope.

They haven't fully figured out how nerves work, so no.
And I don't know why one would attempt to make inferior metal limbs when perfect limb regeneration's already a thing, but that's just me.

I don't got no time for that jibbajabba.

And now I sleep. Thanks for playing!

I'm not talking about Deus Ex/Metal Gear Rising crazy shit, but clunky unfeeling cold metal arms.

Sure there are people trying to make them, but they're pretty much inferior to the geniune article.

I just felt the compulsion to be a smart ass, don't mind me.

Some people would go far to be unfeeling, man.
