Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you relaxed with a book before getting arrested by Border Control.

Dizziness overwhelms you as the transport lurches into motion, carrying you upwards. An oppressive force weighs down on you due to the rapid ascent, your body thrown forward until the chain connecting you to the bench snaps taut. It's a dreadfully uncomfortable position, especially with your arms locked behind your back. It feels like your shoulders may come out of their sockets. Fortunately the transport's ascent gradually slows and you're able to slide back into a more comfortable position, even if every twist or turn throws you around the compartment like some sort of lanky ragdoll.

Darzi breaks the seemingly cavernous silence that had pervaded the compartment. “So, what are we going to do? Are we just going to let them arrest us, throw us in jail? Sit out our sentences like good little prisoners?” You shake your head, a useless gesture considering you can't even see Darzi it's so dark. “No, we'll-” Skull Kid interrupts sharply. “Quiet, man! They've got monitoring instruments back here. Everything you say can and will be used against you.” Darzi sighs loudly. “So what would you have us do, discuss the weather?” Before Skull Kid can retort a fist bangs loudly against the metal wall separating this compartment from what you assume is the driver's cab. A narrow viewport slides open and you catch a glimpse of a masked face, the man's helmet obscuring all but his beady little eyes. “Quiet, convicts! You'll speak when spoken to!”

(1/2 or 3)
>>
The viewport slams shut and you scowl. Via the brooches, you reach out to Darzi and Fulvia. {We can communicate via the brooches, even if we will have to phase Skull Kid out of the discussion. Fulvia, where are you?} She responds after a brief delay. {They have placed me inside some sort of binding metallic harness with magnetic cuffs. I believe I am riding in a vehicle several feet behind your own. It would be a simple matter to escape, should you require my aid.} Well, that's good to know you suppose. You're not sure what exactly 'magnetic' means though. {No, we're fine. Listen, right now they're taking us to the Tower. We wanted to go there anyway, so for now I am content with a free ride to our destination.} Darzi's voice enters your thoughts. {What about when we get there? How will we escape?} You consider that for a moment before responding. {We will need to play it by ear, but I am not worried. I doubt there is a place in this reality capable of containing a vatis determined to escape.}

That conversation concluded, you reach out to Chrys and Profectus. {Are you two safely away?} Profectus is the first to respond, his thoughts rapid and panicked. {I think 'safely' is too strong a word for our situation at the moment, Mik!} Chrys elaborates. {I have commandeered a transport and am currently attempting to puzzle out its controls. Though there were several minor collisions with the surrounding buildings we are now proceeding towards the Tower. I intend to land somewhere near the dividing wall and abandon this vehicle before using the sewers to escape detection. We will awaiting your signal beneath the Tower when you are ready to make your escape.}
(2/3)
>>
Well... damn. You're not even sure how to respond to that. How did she manage to steal a vehicle after leaping out the window? You were several hundred stories above the surface...

Tell them to cause some sort of catastrophe in the city, large enough to get most of the po-leese out of the Tower. That way we'll have an easier time escaping and getting to the top to check out that vys blob.
>>
>>33867205

>Coordinate with Fulvia and Darzi, concoct some sort of cover story or plan an escape. (Write-in)
Let's get a cover story together first of all.
I think the density of vys around the tower is higher right? We may be able to meditate if we're put in a holding facility, but we shouldn't risk it if they want to take our cloak away. In any case, Fulvia has been gathering power for days, she should be able to easily break us out of basically anywhere. Just get a nice story going, then we can report any changes to the others.
>>
Pretty sure Ricky could break the manacle if we shoved our hands into the cloak.
>>
>>33867303
>messing with something that's probably been siphoning this world's vys for years
No, thank you.
We should just get home, we know where the entrance to this place is now, we could come back whenever we wanted.
We need to take care of our daughteru too.
>>
>>33867325
What should our cover story be? From the last thread we're accused of:
>violation of a permanent expulsion, human trafficking, illegally entering the City, failing to register as mutants, associating with political dissidents, illegal purchase of goods and/or services, and the murder of Elliot Rodgers.”
>>
>>33867337
I'm pretty sure he could just void magic bullshit it off of us
>>
>>33867373
>Elliot Rodgers
Vincent Myers now, that was my fuck up.
>>
>>33867205

>Coordinate with Fulvia and Darzi, concoct some sort of cover story or plan an escape. (Write-in)

No reason not to let them process us for now. We can break out when they aren't paying attention to us. With the cape, Ricky can get rid of our cuffs whenever we want.
>>
>>33867325
>I think the density of vys around the tower is higher right?
Actually there's none. It was explained last thread when we mediated.
>>
>>33867373
I'm pretty sure
>violation of permanent expulsion
>human trafficking
>the murder
Are all Skull Kid's problem, not ours. We should only really have to worry about
>Illegally entering the City
>Failing to register as mutants
>Associating with political dissidents
>Illegal purchase of goods and/or services
>>
>>33867373
First two and last ones are for SK only, he can come up with something for himself.
We are not mutants, we didn't know SK was a political dissident, we don't know what he means by illegal purchase of goods/services, and we were told this is the way to get inside the city.
Don't say more than required, the less info they have the less they can dig around.
Although I doubt this place's legal system is very fair, unfortunately.
>>
>>33867406
That's assuming they don't strip us of everything valuable and send us off to dig trenches or something.
>>
>>33867438
Dystopian future cities aren't really known for their fair and impartial legal systems.
>>
>>33867412
>The only sign of vys in the entire town you can see is a bright glowing globe at the very top of the tower, from which a narrow stream of vys extends towards the forest, towards that miniature sun at the center of the forest.
From the last thread, just so we have it on hand.
>>
>>33867412
There was none in the hotel, but it was stated earlier that all ambient vys seemed to be drifting towards the tower.
>>
>>33867461

And if they try to strip us, we kill them then. No reason not to try to be a little subtle for once.
>>
>>33867488
Not towards the tower towards the forest
>>
>>33867373
Say as little as possible while we await our "legal counsel".
I really hope we can end this with us going into the forest to clear out some muties as a work release program of some sort.
A you survive you get to go free type of thing.
>>
>>33867489
Hmm, I guess we could leech them, on the off chance that we get some vys out of it, and it's subtle enough for them not to be able to prove we are even able to do something like that.
Depends, really, on what is cheaper: leech, poison, or some water master magic for groups of enemies.
>>
>the more insane we are the better we see the weird monster things
>people that go insane are known for going on a rampage
>they could see them
>all of them
I'm not sure insanity is a bad thing
>>
>>33867542
Maybe we could get lucky and be banished, although I doubt SK is going to get off that easily.
>>
>>33867547
They don't have enough vys for us to leech even a single point.
>>
So it looks like you're going to try and concoct some sort of cover story with Darzi and Fulvia, and you're going to weaken your manacles so that you can quickly escape if need be. I'll start writing but feel free to continue discussion, I'll take it into account while I write.
>>
Threadly reminder that this gif will SOON be a reality.
SOON.
>>
>>33867597

Why would we spend Vys to weaken our manacles when Ricky can remove them instantly whenever we want?
>>
>Can we meditate while on spice?
>You can, it's probably the safer use of the drug.
Time to show that little shit of a daughter whats what
>>
>>33867586
hence
>on the off chance that we get some vys out of it
But it would probably at least knock them out, if not kill them.
Hopefully we're not dealing with people who can live without vys.
>>
>>33867635
Dude no, don't endanger her. If we're going to use the spice for fire, it's gonna be while doing the crazy shit in that book we found, not letting her peer into our drugged up. megalomaniac heart.

As for reaching out of the cloak, do you want one of the multiple times he's helped us drag stuff into it, the time he broke the girls arm, or some other time? As for breaking stuff, he's shown plenty of strength and the ability to destroy things on multiple occasions. I don't see destroying the manacles as being any more difficult then lifting those crates, or what he did to that girls arm, do you?

You begin subverting the links that bind your manacles together using Earth magic. You take it slow, careful not to overdo it and actually break the links. You simply want to make it a simple task to escape, without making it obvious that you've done anything. With your mind half-occupied focusing on that you contact Darzi and Fulvia. {We need to think of a story, something to explain away our being here and dismiss our crimes. I don't think we have to worry about a few of the charges, like violation of a permanent expulsion, human trafficking, or the murder. The rest though are definitely our problems.}

You hear Darzi's voice in the back of your mind. {What would you suggest? That we were merely lost and just so happened to wander into the city?} You nod your head before remembering that she can't see you. {Essentially. Deny, deny deny. We aren't mutants, which is true. We're not. We didn't know Skull Kid was a political dissident. We don't know what they mean by illegal purchase of goods. We were told that this was the only way to get into the city. Just keep denying any sort of knowledgeable violation of the law. Hopefully they'll provide us with some sort of legal expert, like our people do.}
(1/2)
>>
Fulvia responds. {I would not be so certain that will work. Recall that recordings of us in the Conclave exist. Association with political dissidents may refer not to Skull Kid, but to our time in the Conclave.} You curse under your breath. {I'd forgotten about that.} Darzi cuts in here. {Perhaps we could pin the blame for that on Skull Kid? We could say that we're visitors from a different city and that the first person we met was Skull Kid. He claimed to be a guide and led us to the Conclave, but we insisted on going to the City. He marched us through the sewers to make us think the City a backwards, disgusting place.}

>Darzi's plan is good, it will mean selling Skull Kid down the river but maybe you'll be able to free him before you leave.
>You don't want to screw over Skull Kid like that, he's been good to you ever since you arrived. You'll go with your plan of denying any sort of wrongdoing.

{I couldn't do that to Skull Kid. He's been nothing but good to us ever since we arrived in this twisted abomination of a dimension.} You hear Darzi sigh on the other side of the compartment. {I know, but somehow I just can't bring myself to trust in this city's legal system. It doesn't seem like the sort of place you'd find fair and unbiased treatment.} You can't help but smile wryly. {Neither is El-Amin. I shed light on the Shahzada's wastefulness and was banished for the trouble I caused.} Darzi doesn't respond after that, you're not sure if she's angry or simply contemplative. Regardless you lean back against the metal wall of the compartment and wait for the vehicle to stop.

There is a brief sensation of weightlessness as the transport begins its descent, followed by a jolt as it touches down. The ever present hum that had pervaded the air subsides slowly and you think you hear doors opening and slamming shut. You hear footsteps, and then a muffled beep. The doors swing wide to reveal an expansive courtyard, though the view is blocked by a man in rather official looking garb. He wears a white cape of some sort and his face is obscured by a mask, three glowing lenses where his eyes ought to be. A tank protrudes from the back of his neck, its purpose a mystery to you. Judging by how elaborate his uniform is you'd take him to be an officer of some sort.

“You are to be taken in for processing and then kept in a holding cell. Clothing and personal items will be confiscated and returned to you should you be released. You will be supplied with a standardized uniform for the duration of your stay within the Council Tower.” He rattles off, his voice crackly and shot through with static. He proceeds to unlock Darzi and Skull Kid from the bench, two identically dressed guards pulling them from the transport. You are the last to be unlocked, and the speaker personally drags you from the vehicle.

You are not, as you'd expected, on ground level. In fact you can't even see the ground, and yet the tower seems to stretch up and up, climbing ever higher until it vanishes into the clouds above. Unfortunately you've no time to gawk, you're shoved roughly towards a double door at the end of this little landing pad. It occurs to you that once you're inside the tower it will be quite difficult to get out again, and they intend to take away your cloak. Then again, what are you going to do? Jump off the ledge?

A brief sense of panic overwhelms you. They're going to take away your cloak? Ever worldly possession you own resides in that cloak. You hadn't quite realized it, but the damn thing has very nearly become a part of you ever since you got it. You glance around the courtyard for some method of escape, some way out. Guards stand on the walls, looking out over the city. You note large arrays of gun barrels and machinery pointed skyward, you think those may be some sort of weapons. The guards at your back had pistols and some sort of clubs on their hips but none of their weapons are drawn. You suppose you could always jump off the ledge, but there are an awful lot of obstacles between you and the ground. Not to mention more of those weird groupings of gun barrels.

Skull Kid and Darzi are handcuffed and they haven't weakened their manacles like you have. Fulvia is being wheeled off of a separate transport in some sort of coffin-like containment cage, she appears totally immobilized though she said she could easily escape should you only give the word... What are you to do if you succeed though? Break into the tower? Hijack a transport? That seems out of the question, the one you flew in on is already coasting skyward. In the end, you decide that to attempt escape would likely spell your death.

You're ushered through a pair of double doors into the Tower itself, where you find yourself standing in some sort of strange corridor. A metallic arm sits idle, attached to a rail on the ceiling with the arm itself extended towards the wall, where a series of boxes lie embedded. Some of them have a glowing triangle on them, where as others don't. You're unsure what that might mean but if you had to hazard a guess it indicates that a box is either empty or full.

Wonder what Chryssa wrote in her journal, maybe we'll never know.
>Dear diary, today Mik decided to not be crazy.
>He's dead now, isn't it ironic?
>We bitched at him for being crazy and he was right all along.
>>
As you step inside the doors slam shut behind your group, Fulvia must be destined for a separate facility. Your guard leads you to an odd machine with a single opening at what would be roughly waist height for a human, though it is only mid-thigh for you. He presses a button and briefly the sound of whirring machinery fills the space before a package of drab white clothing slides forth. Your guard removes your handcuffs, clipping them to his belt. “Remove any clothing and personal affects then change into this uniform.”

You take the bag and step over to a small metal table, ever under the vigilant eye of your guard. Reluctantly you remove your cloak and the rest of your clothing, you don't wear any jewelry or other such adornment. However as you pull on the drab white uniform a thought occurs to you. It would probably be a simple task to hide an object on your person and smuggle it into the prison...

You reach into your cloak and slip the compact sword out, slipping it into your pants. It's a tad undignified but it's not like you have any other convenient hiding spots. This uniform doesn't have pockets. Next you grab your brooch and clip it to the inside of your sleeve, where ideally it will go unnoticed. Finally you reach into your cloak a final time and grab hold of the handle of your Shockwave Sword. The flood of vys as you drain it immediately settles your nerves. With your reserves of magic power replenished, you feel more in control. Safer.
>Vys Pool: (15/29)

Your guard is growing suspicious, so you decide not to push your luck. You fold your clothes neatly and stack them atop one another. The guard nods and takes your clothing, inserting them into the opening of that strange machine. You watch all of your worldly belongings recede into that glowing receptacle, only for them to pop out a few moments later in a shiny, clear package no larger than your fist. How did the manage that? The guard picks up the ball and places it into a small tube on the back of the mechanical arm, which springs into life as soon as he does so. It rolls along the rails and then sinks a few feet before extending the arm towards one of the small panels in the wall. The panel opens up and the arm ejects your belongings inside before retracting, the panel sealing behind it. The little triangle that some of the other panels are marked with lights up.

You make careful note of the row where your party's stuff is being kept. Darzi and Skull Kid's own belongings were placed into storage containers adjacent your own. Darzi, you note, appears to be incredibly uncomfortable. Even though the uniforms you were given seem large enough to accommodate your frame they fail to conceal her burn scars. She has folded her hands together and refuses to stop fidgeting, her eyes cast towards the floor. The complete flip in personality is shocking, and a little disconcerting.

Your party is ushered towards the opposite end of the room, where a series of metal prongs stand framing each doorway. You're pushed through one set, and after a brief pause there is a light, airy ding. The door opens and you walk through, into a small antechamber. As the doors slam shut you hear the grinding of machinery and the room itself seems to move, you nearly lose your footing as it slams into place. A masculine voice filters into the room from an unknown source as a pair of unseen doors slide open in front of you, revealing a long hallway. “Proceed towards the elevators. The High Admiral wishes to speak with you.”

With the way back sealed off, you're left with few options save to follow orders. You walk for several minutes before coming to another pair of doors. They slide open as you approach, revealing a small metallic cell just barely large enough for you to fit inside. There are no controls, but as you step inside the doors close and you feel the elevator lurch into motion. You're relatively certain you're going up.

You hear a voice in the back of your head. {It appears as though the Tower extends several stories underground. We have reached a doorway, incapacitated the guards, and commandeered their uniforms. Our possessions are hidden in a small alcove in the sewers where they will not be found. When you are ready to attempt your escape, contact us.} It's Chrys. A flood of relief washes over you but a thought occurs. They've disguised themselves as two guards, they may be able to infiltrate the tower and sabotage something important.

We honestly need to work on nature.. once we get to master im sure we could read most people's surface thoughts. when we have the dragon staff in hand. basicly makes us a grand master A master level. Doing super crazy shit.
Things like controlling a dragon become possible even at vatis level.. but spending like 6 vys.. with the dragon staff.

You consider your options for a moment. {Remain where you are, for now. I'm being taken to meet the 'High Admiral', whoever that is. Maybe I can bargain for our freedom.} Clearly the Admiral must want you for something specific, or else they would've just locked you away and left you to rot. Then if he doesn't play ball you can always take him hostage, you still have a sword and your magic. Almost instinctively you try to channel vys into your armor's control panel to get an idea of where you are in relation to the top of the tower, but you realize that without your armor you lack that ability. You could attempt to meditate, but only a moment later you feel the elevator start to slow.

The doors open to reveal a well-appointed foyer. Two guards stand waiting for you, both wearing heavier armor than the men you met downstairs with large helmets to obscure their faces instead of mask. They're wielding rifles of some sort, you don't recognize the make but they seem to be assault rifles. The armor itself is covered in little glowing knobs. A thick cape of a material you don't recognize is draped over their back. The one on the left reaches up to his neck and the air is filled briefly with a crackling noise. “We will need to frisk you before you are allowed into the Admiral's quarters.”

You nod, and step out of the elevator, spreading your arms and legs as they direct you to. You look around the room to get a grasp on your surroundings while the guard who spoke gives you a remarkably thorough pat down. You see a door directly in front of you and one on either side. You can't help but wonder whether or not the Admiral has an entire floor to himself, because you don't see else in the room save these two guards. Nor do you hear the sort of ambient noise you'd expect, papers shuffling, people chatting amongst themselves, footsteps. Only a single voice on the other side of the door in front of you, its words too muffled to understand.

The air is filled with that crackling noise once again. “Alright, he's clean.” The guard stands, and then he and his companion escort you to the door. They press a button and it slides open to reveal a small, cluttered office with a somewhat rustic feel compared to what you've seen so far. The floors and walls are still metal, and a large screen on the opposite wall is displaying a video of you erecting a wall of ice in the middle of the road, seemingly from nowhere. Yet the desk is covered in various files and books, and a man sits comfortably watching the screen in a high-backed leather chair. He swivels to face you as you enter and the door slides shut behind you.

The High Admiral is a weary looking man, probably in his early forties, with sloping shoulders and a thick neck. His eyes shine an unsettling shade of red, but other than that you see no obvious signs of augmentation. On his right breast are buttoned a number of badges and medals, apparently the only indication of his rank. He gestures to a seat situated opposite of him at the desk. “Have a seat.” It was more of a command than a request.

You sit down and make yourself comfortable, the Admiral gestures towards the screen. One of the bikers has broken through the wall and two more come flying through the hole he made. One of them goes wide, you recognize him as the club wielding thug that looked to be headed towards Chrys. As a spear of ice forms just above your hand and flies towards the thug a metal wall erects itself directly in front of you, denting as a shotgun blast impacts it. Another blast goes off and puts a hole through Fulvia's chest, knocking her down. The ice spear stabs the club-wielding thug in the eye and he goes soaring off into the air.

The screen goes dark and the Admiral turns towards you. You hadn't noticed it from afar, but the admiral seems to be surrounded in some kind of haze. Like you were looking at him through a fogged up window or something. He ask in a gravely, haggard voice. “Where are you from, son?”

Forestbros 4 lyfe.
>>
>>33873217
we might check out, next time we get a chance.
>>
>>33873197
It would be more the blatant railroading that would piss me off than exploring the forest itself.
>>
>>33873217
We'll check it our when at the water temple while holding her hand
>>
>>33873217
When did we see that chrys had a diary? And did we ask if that was her diary? For all we know she could be writing a book on her life or her adventures.

>yfw chrys' diary is incredibly girly and cute, she's just too embarrassed to show it on the outside
>>
>>33873217
We could ask her to tell us.
>>
>>33873252
If it was in forest the entire time then it isn't railroading it was your fault for not realizing it.
>>
Somebody better archive
>>
>>33873288
>When did we see that chrys had a diary?
after she got corrupted by delirium.
>>
Did anybody archive it yet?
>>
>>33873294
Anyone want to archive this?>>33873252
Ah I understand.
I'm guessing that it'll be something optional that'll net us a cool reward.
>>
>everyone shouting for an archive instead of just archiving it
There you go faggots, it's archived. It's not fucking hard.

>Chryssa sits next to us, our fingers interwoven
>dragon daughteru sleeps peacefully in our lap
>Fulvia brews us our favourite type of tea
>Darzi is training Profectus just outside the window

>>Chryssa sits next to us, our fingers interwoven

>>Fulvia brews us our favourite type of tea

>>
>>33873644
Is there any reason why Soma changed his trip from Somas? I remember being confused when it happened but all the tags since have kept it as Somas.
>>
>>33873673
it was wrong, compared to what it was supposed to be.
Soma is a word for something, but i forgot what.

When we get Das Golems what are we going to make?

I was hoping we'd just make A mount until we find a better one.
>Implying Graseed Bro is dead

Could save us some dosh.

What about Magic or Meele golems which would be more useful?
>>
>>33873809
i can't breath

I want to go golem hunting, before leaving the mine, since it can be of great use for us, since its basically animate+permancy+Vys.

Told ya.

I always liked that the name doubled as a fart joke.

But the Anti Magic cores are filled with nothing but hate and rage
>>
>>33873888
Fulvia, said she can fix them, and have them follow her or us.

>>33873933
;_; I'm sorry
>>
>>33873901
Yeah okay there's just the risk of losing them in combat would rather we have some regular Golems fighting than the expansive special ones also going on an assumption that they'd be hard to modify due to being Anti Magic
>>
>>33873958
they actually would be cheaper than normal golems.
>>
>>33873974
Shit worded that wrong meant as in those Cores would probably be hard to replace

You pause for a few moments to consider how you'd like to answer the admiral. In the end, you decide it unlikely that he will fall for a lie having seen a video of your performance and you're in no position to bargain at the moment. “The city of El-Amin, within the Shahdom of El-Amin, in the lands of Pidjata, on the world of Mundus. I stepped through a portal and found myself here, along with my companions. Ever since then I have been seeking a way back home.”

The High Admiral leans back in his chair, steepling his fingers. “Three years ago a device was found beneath the Tower. A structure embedded in the ground, twenty feet high and covered in indecipherable glowing script. The structure housing this 'gate' had collapsed around it and yet it stood unaffected by the ravages of time. We believe it to be well over a thousand years old.” He reaches towards a glass on the table filled with some sort of amber liquid, plucking it up casually and raising it to his lips. He kicks the glass back and finishes it in one go, setting the empty glass back on the table before continuing his little speech.

“We moved the gate to the top of the tower, into a secure lab where we might study it. For three years we've labored with no success. Its mysteries elude us. Some of the talking heads have been muttering that it's the gateway through which the Visitors first entered our world. Others are saying that it is a tool of the Magi, and ought to be destroyed. Until now I wasn't sure what the hell to think.” He shakes his head. “Here's my proposal. Open the gate and I'll take it as proof that you really are from another world. You and your friends will be free to leave. Refuse and you'll be locked in a prison cell with a life sentence."

>Accept his proposal.
>Haggle. You'll want your stuff back, and you'll want rooms to stay in, and you'll want supplies... (Roll 3d10+2 vs DC 23)
