You tune out the yelling coming from downstairs, and focus on rubbing Reeber’s head. He enjoys the attention, and becomes an inanimate object capable only of drooling.

“Sorry I ruined everything,” you say. “I do that.”

Rowan comes into your room and sits down with her back against your bed. “No you don’t,” she says. “You helped us get rid of Meckor. You ended half his lieutenants. You’re like… a hero or something.” She looks downcast after she says that.

You feel a coppery flavor weakly emanating from Rowan. It’s not really something you physically taste, but… you’re pretty sure you’re actually sensing something here. Then again you were talking to yourself like, just a few hours ago and you didn’t realize it, so maybe you’re not the best authority on the matter right now.

But Ro’s words have a hollow ring to them. She knows what you did. You find it hard to speak. “This isn’t the first time.”

Rowan looks up at you.
>>
>>33512642
You steel yourself, and continue. “I used to have a friend like you. And I hurt her. I uh… don’t think she got better,” you say. “I mean, I could be the best person around but I’m always… I’m always going to do stuff like this. I don’t want to, but sometimes I just can’t control myself. I can’t….” you choke on your words, and hunch closer over Reeber, using him for support. “Maybe what your grampa said about people like me was right.”

As you speak, Rowan seems to wilt. That weird, inexplicable copperiness becomes more distinct.

“Me being here,” you continue, “the same thing’s going to happen again, and the more stuff I start to do, the worse it’ll be when I lose it. Isaac should have just finished me off.” (-1 Sanity: 71/100)

There’s a knock at the door, and you look over. Isaac leans in the doorway. “Ro, honey, would you give us a minute?”

Rowan looks up at her dad, then back to you. She stands and walks out, head hung low.
>>
>>33512647
Isaac steps in and closes the door behind him. He takes a second to examine your floor and find a clear path from where he stands to your bed. He walks over and sits down at the far end.

The copperiness is still there, though now it’s coming from Isaac. It’s mingled with a bunch of other weird tastes that you can’t quite place. There’s a hard, bitter edge of something, along with a cool, smooth tone. They all run together and confuse you.

“Do you really mean what you said?” Isaac asks, looking at the closed door. “Would you really rather I just… ended, back there?”

You don’t answer immediately. It’s not an easy question to answer.

>*I just.... ended it

Also, your crazed rage has left some remnant of unholy power inside of you. You are now stronger.

Max HP: 27
Max PP: 27

You have gained the following abilities:
>Terrorizing Glare: Make eye contact with a target, filling it briefly with horrific, all-consuming fear.
>Empathetic: You can feel the emotions of those around you. Your heightened senses can also detect magical energies.

Choose two new abilities.

-Infernus-
Red Quickening
>While in battle, tasting fresh blood sends you into a frenzy, making you faster, stronger, and more violent than before. (Gain bonus to damage and physical checks for one round after imbibing blood)
Bloodletting
>You reflexively know where to hit to cause the most bleeding possible. (Melee attacks cause damage over time at a rate of 1d3 per round on top of any other wounds or status effects inflicted, if left untreated.)
Blood Curse
>You cause the blood of your target to become unstable, greatly weakening it. (Target takes increased damage, loses any buffs and suffers penalties to healing)
>>
>>33512882

-Verwelken-
Voice of One Thousand Teeth
>You can push shadows farther than they like, and cause them to bristle. Turn a space of shadow into a cloud of cutting darkness. (4 PP, area effect, effective against unarmored targets)
Whisper of Lightlessness
>Sometimes, you can hear the shadows speaking to you. They tell you what they’ve seen, if only you listen.
Invisibility
>You can disappear from sight for a short period of time. (Now 5 PP/Second, was 6 PP/Second)

-Belphegoran-
Stain of Sin
>Corrupting a weapon (or claws) changes damage type to corrupting for the next attack. (Very effective against physical armor)
Soul Drinker
>Rip power from a target opponent at touch, and add it to your own. (Drain: 10 PP, Cost: 3 PP)
Inflict Pain
>Ignite an opponent’s senses with a crippling overload of pain. (High cost, powerful debuff)
Spell Eater
>Parry incoming magic and absorb it, negating its effects and gaining a part of its energies. (Arcane defense, Cost: ~ varies on spell being countered)
>>
>>33512662
>>I’m just… I’m scared, Isaac.

selected abilities may change depending on the answer, I don't want our Belphegoran options to close up, we should try to balance our powers somewhat

Oversight.

>>33512961

You roll for it. It's not a passive. You don't necessarily need to declare you're going to use it, but you'll have a better chance of it being successful if you're anticipating the spell in question.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by
>gaining a part of its energies
?

Is that meaning that it recoups some of the PP cost by using the spell's energy? Does it mean that if someone shoots lightning at us, our next attack might deal a bit of lightning damage? Some other thing?
>>
>>33513003
>It's not that risky. It comes back, for christ's sake.
Depends on our current sanity. It would be a bad idea right now.
>>
>>33513043
Not even him, but we can choose when to use the thing. Obviously we wouldn't use it willy nilly if we're already suffering from a chunk of San being gone. Wait until shit gets better and then talk to the shadows.
>>
>>33512897
Soul drinker
Spell eater
>>
>>33513037

You recouperate some of the PP cost. But if you don't have enough PP to begin with, you can't counter the spell at all.

Your success at using Spell Eater also determines how much of the spell's energy is returned to you as PP. For example, you might do a bad job at countering a spell and not regain any PP.
>>
>>33512897
Stain of Sin I really want to get a shotgun and use that thing with this. Sneaking up on a burly lookin' thing and blowin its head off with a corrupted shotgun sounds awesome

Because obviously we're going to choose to use it at low sanity.

Think a little dude, it's an active.
>>

It's a verwelken power we can use without darkness. And it probably opens the way to better invis. And it looks like the PP/sec is going down as a we get stronger too.
>>
Rolled 3 + 5

>>33513091
If something happens while we're on low sanity, then it'd probably be better to have something besides WoL so as to not risk it, it has less of an immediate potential return because we'd be avoiding using it.
Also, I have a horrible inkling in the back of my mind that if we're low enough on sanity we might use WoL unintentionally if we have it. please tell me I'm being stupid, Languid.

>>33513051
You actually think anon will be able to resist using it at all times?
>>
>>33513309
They're doing a pretty damn good job of resisting buying it, so yeah. I think that if we ever find ourself in a situation where every single other available power is so bad that we pick WoL, then people probably won't vote to use it much.
>>
>>33513309
With everyone pissing themselves about a skill costing san it will probably be a fight to get anon to use it ever.
>>
>>33513320
Languid's been trying to show that minor san loss isn't he end of the world, but people aren't going to believe him unless he starts posting "MINOR SAN LOSS ISN'T A BIG DEAL AND IS MORE THAN WORTH IT IN MANY SITUATIONS!!" all the time.
>>
>>33513294
>So, how much Stress does Inflict Pain cause Sierra to go up when she uses it?
Could be wrong, I'd think that successful use of Inflict Pain might refund a few stress points.
>>
Tallying it up, so far we are at:

Soul Drinker: 13
Stain of Sin: 8
Inflict Pain: 7
Spell Eater: 6
Whisper of Lightlessness: 5
Bloodletting: 2
Blood Curse: 2
Red Quickening: 1
Voice of One Thousand Teeth: 1

The thing here is that Spell Eater is anti-caster, but we already pretty much picked the anti-caster option with Soul Drinker.

And it's not like casters are giving us the real problems anyway. It's the armored brick shithouses that are giving us problems. Inflict Pain and Stain of Sin are both good for armor. IP makes it harder for them to hurt us but doesn't let us actually hurt them while SoS makes it easier for us to hurt them while not stopping them from hurting us.

“I’m just… I’m scared. I’m really scared, Isaac,” you say. “I don’t… I don’t want to die, but how’s it supposed to be fair if me living means other people don’t?”

“It’s not fair,” says Isaac, simply. “Life’s not fair. But this… everything that’s happened recently with you, these things are because of decisions I made.”

You shake your head. “Don’t give me that crap,” you say. “I made the call to go in there without you being around. I’m the one who got in over their head.”

Isaac gives you a hard look. “And I’m the one who put you in the position where you had to make calls like that,” he says. “Working with the marshal – it gives my family some way to use their abilities in a positive way. When I met you, I suppose a part of me thought it would do the same for you. I rationalized that the only difference between us was that I had someone steer me along one path, while you didn’t.”

You stare at Reeber’s unmoving form.

“But we’re not the same. My children and I – we thrive in extremes. The harder you push a Seraph, the harder they fight. The stronger they become. You’re not a Seraph, Sierra. You’re a good person, and God knows your powerful, but your strengths are different than ours, as are your limitations.”

“Limitation is a kind of clinical way of looking at it,” you say lowly. Murdering people isn’t some charming idiosyncrasy. You can’t deal with it. You shouldn’t be able to deal with it.
>>
>>33513820
>Every time you use that ability, you remember all the people you massacred
You're just pulling that out of your ass.
>>
>>33513845
dont we already have a passive power leech
>>
>>33513848

“The only times you’ve lost control have been in… abnormal situations,” says Isaac. “Two of them are because of you being involved with my work as marshal, and with your responsibilities as a deputy marshal.”

“Well you can’t fire me,” you say flatly, without real enthusiasm. “I quit.”

Isaac smiles, though it doesn’t reach his eyes. “You helped stop the greatest threat this city’s known for some time,” he says. “People died, but there’s no counting how many more you’ve saved. And it’s enough. I’ll handle everything from here. For you… you just need to spend some time learning to control the things you can do. To come to terms with who you are.”

You look questioningly at him.
>>
>>33513866

Some real life comes into his smile in response. “Listen. You have the potential to make things better than they are now. It might seem like you already failed, but give it time. You’re still young,” he says quietly. “One day you’ll be stronger, and you’ll be able to do things I can’t even imagine.” There’s a faint light in his eyes as he speaks. “A hundred Meckors will see you and never crawl out from under their rocks, because they’ll know they’d have to deal with you,” he says. “That day is a long ways from now, though. Until then, let people like me worry about things like them.”

That's... a whole lot of stuff he said right there.

honestly the only way i see invisibility being useful if its a prereq for a better type of stealth

what you described is a gimmick that spends an entire power pool for not even close to winning a fight... unless we're fighting mortal mooks where we don't need such things anyway
>>
>>33514066
>5 seconds to run up on the target
I still do not see it being used for 5pp/second. You are risking the whole reserve with no gain. If for some reason we fail at biting/stabbing, get detected or trip and fall; we just wasted our entire reserves. If other abilities fail we lose some PP and keep fighting and try another way.

Yeah all this. Verwelken really needs a decent stealth option of some sort. It's silly how the demonbane talk about Verwelken in hushed tones and how "you never see them coming" and so on when there's nothing like that in the power set.

The shadow stuff is only good in dark areas, otherwise it costs too much and random shadows for no reason are obvious as fuck anyway. And invisibility is just a split second thing.
>>
>>33513885
More mourning. She feels like shit. Mope around in bed petting Reeber. until too hungry to stay.
>>
>>33514296
It ain't never gonna get bought. At least not unless leveling up more causes the cost to decrease.
>>
If it was 2-3PP/second invis would see a lot of good use. We could use 1-3 seconds of invisibility through out fights. It would even become a huge part of our way of fighting. Right now, it just is worth it.
>>
>>33514328
I know. Invisibility is useless and I'm in no way advocating taking it.

What I'm saying is that Verwelken needs a decent stealth option of some sort.
>>
I vote we spend time with the Moriah and her family soon. Since they're demons, and seem to live with humans just fine, they can probably be something of a model for us. Also they might know more about demons than Isaac and specifically what our malfunction is.

>>33514346

They're demon wizards from what Isaac told us. Old man Crowther probably knows all kinds of weird shit.
>>
You take a second to formulate your thoughts into words. “How are you so sure?” you ask, genuinely curious. “How do you know everything’s going to turn out okay?” Isaac speaks with such resolve that there’s no doubt that he knows.

“Because He led me to you,” he answers. “And because I believe you’re doing your best. In the end, it’s always enough.”

“But… I haven’t done anything. I’ve only like, screwed up, over and over,” you say, confused. “I don’t deserve it. I haven’t earned it.”

“Everyone deserves a second chance,” Isaac tells you. Then he stands up, slowly. “You look tired. Get some rest. I’ll send Harvey up with some food if you’re hungry.”

“I don’t think I can eat anything for a while,” you say remembering the taste of blood on your tongue. You lie back down and sink into your pillows. You’re vaguely aware of Isaac leaving before you sink into a dreamless sleep.

---

It’s night.

Stress: 15/100
Sanity: 71/100
Bloodlust: Subdued
HP: 18/27
PP: 2/27

You limp up to the Crowther’s door and go to knock. It swings open before you get the chance, revealing Mr. Crowther standing before you. “Ah Sierra. Come in, there is a matter I would discuss with you.” He sounds almost enthusiastic, if emotion was something he was capable of showing.
>>
Though you’re no longer a deputy marshal, the Magister has requested an audience with you. It’s been several hours since you woke up in your bed, and you still feel like crap. Isaac said you could refuse if you liked, but you decided against it. He still doesn’t know they’re demons – that’s they’re business, you guess.

Anyway, the way Isaac wrote up his report used Meckor as a scapegoat for your rampage, so Crowther may or may not really be in the loop as to what happened. But knowing him, he probably is. Sometimes it seems like he knows everything.

You look back and see Cass in the van looking over at you. Rowan’s with her. You weren’t sure if you wanted anybody with you in this meeting or not, though Ro volunteered herself to come along before you could say anything to the contrary.

>Motion Rowan to join you.
>It’s probably better if you keep the demon stuff between the demons. Unless this is like, not about demon stuff? Whatever, wave Cass and Ro off, they probably have stuff to do.

Didn't this last incident happen mostly because Sierra went and rushed off to a place by herself?

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong about things, but would she really wanna go somewhere by herself right now? I mean, yeah, it's the Crowther's house, but still.
Also it could be a chance to try to make Moriah less hostile towards Ro.
>>
>>33514911
I just like conflict!
>>
>>33514892
Dunno, but that makes the most sense. If so, that brings our amount of Belph powers from 3 to 7. Out of curiosity, I counted how many powers we had from each type. Here's the results.

Infernus: 10
Verwelken: 5
Belphegoran: 7 (if Empathetic is Belph)
Mix: 9
>>
>>33515077
Infernus has a bit of an advantage on account of most of the physical feature things counting for Infernus.

Pretty sure the coppery was a Bloodlust meter thing. Y'know, cause blood is coppery. We were smelling the blood inside of Isaac and Rowan.

That's what I was thinking but the more miserable Rowan got, the stronger the smell.

Or maybe we smell WEAKNESS!

I guess we're gonna wanna git gudder at guns. Anything that's tanky enough to require using SoS on is going to be something we really don't want to be getting into melee combat with.
>>
>My children and I – we thrive in extremes. The harder you push a Seraph, the harder they fight. The stronger they become.
Are you using us to make you and your family more powerfull Isaac?
I feel bad for the guys that'll come to take over the world in a few years if he's doing that, though it works both way the harder the fight the stronger and madder we become.
>>
>>33515128
Might be landmaster+belph because of sensing magic, as I mentioned.
>>
>>33515463
yeah, it could be, but i dont see any reason for something like that since it already fits belph perfectly
>>
>>33515463
Gaining Terrorizing Gaze and Empathetic was specifically mentioned to be the result of "unholy energy staying after the rampage", which makes it far more likely to be oure Belph than LM at all.
>>
You wave to Cass to take off, and turn your attention back to Mr. Crowther as you walk through the door and into his big, weird and kind of cool house.

He closes the door behind you.

You feel an odd cadence coming from Crowther. It’s kind of an energetic, lemony twang, like Sprite or something. You don’t get it. You’ve been getting weird vibes from everybody since you woke up, and you feel too scrambled to figure it out.

“So what’s this about?” you ask, half joking, and half suspicious. “Gargoyles snatch the Constitution? Liberty Bell gone missing?”

“Thankfully not,” says Mr. Crowther. He turns and looks down on you. “And it’s not about your incident, either. The fewer that know of it, the better. Come.” He turns and walks off toward the study. Or parlor. You don’t know your Victorian era room names very well.

You follow behind him. You’ve got a bad headache, and you feel mostly like crap. “So what is it about then? All you’re saying is what it’s not about.”

“It’s about Meckor’s death,” he says simply. He walks into the room where you were playing games the other night, but when you follow, you find it full of conflicting vibes and mingling not-tastes and flavor stuffs. It kind of throws you for a loop before you recognize the sources.

Waldric’s here. He’s got a bunch of bandages on him, and he looks like he’d rather be lying down. His long hair is mussed, and he wears a partially buttoned dress shirt and pajama pants with slippers. The clothes don’t quite fit him, though he pulls them off well – probably Mr. Crowther’s stuff. He has dark bruises and cuts all over his body, and one of his eyes is dark and swollen. (Waldric: 4/22 HP)

A skull-faced Hellion with long dark hair, a red pentagram inscribed in her forehead, and long, curved horns sits by Waldric on the lounge chair. She’s clad in loose, dark clothing that looks artsy and expensive. She has an arm around his waist, and Waldric has his arms draped over the back of the chair. He runs his fingers across her scalp in tired, slow motions. It takes you a second to recognize the Hellion as Maviel, Moriah’s sister. A miasma of… something burns off of her like an invisible cloud. (Maviel: 10/10 HP; ?/? ??)

Moriah sits by her brother on the couch. Wolfgang and her both have their human glamors in place. Wolfgang wears a vest and slacks, and has a suitcoat draped over the back of the char. Moriah, meanwhile, wears a dark blue sweater with stars stitched into it and a flowy black skirt.

Mr. Crowther waves you to sit by Moriah, while he takes a seat in an antique leather chair.
>>
>>33515629

“Looking sharp there, Sierra,” says Waldric, his voice choked. He finishes his quip with a pained cough.

You just threw on a hoodie over your PJs and kicked on your Jordans before you came over. Between that and your numerous bruises and cuts, you’re not much to write home about.

“Don’t exert yourself,” says Maviel, pressing a skeletal hand to his chest in a restraining motion. Her voice has a croaking, watery quality to it when she speaks. She then turns her attention to you. “I’m glad you’re all right,” she says to you. You can’t read her expression, but you feel a kind of warm, deep kind of impression from her. “I heard about what happened. You’re a lucky girl to have survived.”

“Heh. Lucky,” you say flatly. You don’t feel lucky.

“You’re hurt,” says Moriah, turning to look at you, her brow knit with concern. “I apologize for father’s behavior. I told him not to summon you until you might have had a chance to rest, but he insisted.”

“It is a rather pressing concern,” says Mr. Crowther, his tone impassive.

“Well, first thing’s first,” you say, suppressing a yawn, “you mind if I like, drop out of full human mode? Because I’m whipped, and it’s kind of uncomfortable.”

Mr. Crowther nods once.

You kick off your shoes, which you didn’t even bother tying, and sink back into the couch. All of your muscles are sore, and breathing hurts slightly from Meckor’s trying to strangle you. You drop the glamors on your tail and horns, and allow the rest of your body to shift into its regular form. You feel a weight lifted from your chest. (-3 Stress: 12/100)

“By the way, Wally, I’m glad you’re like. Not dead and stuff,” you say.

Waldric gives a feeble smile. “Thanks to you. I didn’t mean to lead you into a trap but… if you didn’t show up when you did, I wouldn’t be here. At least, that’s what I’ve had told me.”

Maviel swats him on the arm. “You’re far too paranoid. This isn’t hell. Not everyone’s trying to kill you all the time.”

Waldric closes his eyes for a moment. “Of course. Or so you say,” he says wryly.

Maviel shakes her head, then looks back at you. “You really do look like you’re about to explode,” she says, surprised.

Wolfgang smirks, and then leans forward and looks at your clawed feet. “Why didn’t you use those in your costume last night? Afraid of stepping on somebody’s toes?”

“Eh. Something like that,” you say. You don’t know if you want Wolfgang to know that the clawed feet thing is a new development right now.

The flavor you can only interpret as Sprite continues emanating from Mr. Crowther. “Hey, I guess you’re a demon and stuff so you’d know, but why exactly do you taste like Sprite? Like. I’ve been having these weird kinds of vibes from everybody and I think it’s getting worse,” you say.

“What, this is new to you?” asks Waldric, raising an eyebrow. He speaks quietly and carefully, to avoid causing himself undo pain. “I thought you were part Belphegoran.” A splash of sourness comes at you from him.

“Well,” you say. “Yeah? But the fight with Meckor kind of uh. Knocked some stuff loose in me, I think.”

A subtle, earthy sensation wafts off from Maviel. “I heard about something like that happening with a Spiritwalker, once,” she provides, thoughtfully.

Moriah jumps in to explain. “You’re empathetic,” she says, her words punctuated by a bout of that same Sprite-ish lemony flavor that’s coming from her dad. She gives a slight smile. “You can sense the emotions of those around you.”

“Huh,” you say. “So Sprite means….”

“Excitement, as is expressed by Belphegoran scholars,” says Mr. Crowther, in a flat tone.

Huh. Well. That’s new, you think to yourself. “So,” you say. “Why did you call me here, anyway?”

“As you know, the San Fransisco Bay Area has been designated as a fief of Halth,” says Mr. Crowther. “The holder of this fief, Meckor, is dead. By rights of inheritance his holdings pass to his designated heir.”
>>
>>33517364

“The designated heir being Nabuth’shazzar,” says Waldric. “And you killed Nabuth.”

“Which means, in lieu of an heir, the fief is given to the jurisdiction of Meckor’s conclave.” Mr. Crowther knows you don’t understand, so he continues explaining. “His conclave has been reduced in size as of late. Khel died last night in your battle. And of the remainders, two are claiming rights of leadership.”

Waldric gives you a flat look. “One of which is me. The other is Philostrathus,” he says. “The problem with our current situation is that primacy is determined by the majority.”

“So what?” you ask. “There’s nothing here to be king of or whatever. Everybody’s dead.”

Crowther tilts his head a fraction of an inch. “Not quite,” says Crowther. “There is a great deal of influence that comes with the position. And there are many in Halth that would flock to the power and prestige of a new demon lord, wherever the fiefdom may be.”

You snort. “Well sucks to be Philo, then. Nobody gets to be demon lord if nobody votes.”

“Again, not quite,” says Mr. Crowther. “If a new demon lord does not arise, a greater conclave than this one will appoint a new leader. We will be put into much the same situation as we were before, when the new conclave arrives.”

“Although,” Waldric allows, “probably without the full-scale invasion clause that Meckor introduced.”
>>
>>33517386

“So I guess somebody’s gotta pick up the slack on killing Philostrathus then,” you say blandly. That’s not your problem anymore, as far as you’re concerned. Isaac said so, and you’ve had it with snakes anyway.

Waldric laughs, and then starts coughing again as Maviel berates him. “It would be neater that way, but we don’t need to risk waiting for it. There’s actually a third member of the conclave still alive,” he says.

You space out at the news. “Wait just a second,” you say. No way.

Mr. Crowther does not wait a second. “Fortunately, he is opposed to Philostrathus. Unfortunately, he is also opposed to Waldric,” Mr. Crowther explains, narrowing his eyes at you. “He is advocating a… third party… for the lordship.”

The way he says it leaves no doubt in your mind who he’s talking about. “Me?” you squeak out.

“Yeah,” Waldric says with elaborate slowness. “We kind of need you to talk to him about it.”

There’s something in his tone of voice, and the emotional you guess flavor you’re picking off from him that clues you into what’s going on. “You mean. Right now?” you ask. “He’s here?!”

“Oh boy, you can bet your buckets on that one,” Wolfgang says, rolling his eyes. His expression is one of complete exasperation.

And then a huge red demon in an open Hawaiian shirt and a pair of cargo shorts stomps into the room. He has to duck the doorway, and take active precautions against his horns hitting the hanging light fixtures on the ceiling.
>>
>>33517407
>huge red demon

HE LIVES
>>
>>33517407

Most of his exposed skin is charred, swollen, and unnaturally purplish, and you can see bloody footprints from where he’s walked into the room. (Ranthix: 3/52 HP)

“I HEARD CHIT CHAT, IS HER ARRIVAL IMMINENT OR WHAT?” Ranthix shouts, eyes roaming the room. He focuses on you, and then a tidal wave of unidentifiable sensations washes through the room at his entrance, so thick that you can’t even distinguish any of it. You see Waldric twitch in discomfort at the same time you do, as he turns and glares at the demon.

Ranthix ignores him. “AHH!” he yells. “WHY DID NO ONE INFORM ME?!”

“Because you’re supposed to be in bed,” says Maviel. “We talked about this.”
>>
>>33517440
And he wants us to be his boss...
This is awesome
>>
>>33517465
>>33517407
Fucking awesome.

Ranthix, you won me over.
>>
>>33517465

“NEVER AGAIN!” Ranthix proclaims, stomping toward you. He accidentally smashes aside the center table and kneels before you, though him kneeling is still taller than you sitting down.

He looks down at the ground, more humbly than you would have thought him capable of. “THESE HETHENS MUTTER TO THEMSELVES OF POWER, BUT I HAVE ASSURED THAT THIS FIEF, WON THROUGH COMBAT AND BLOOD, AWAITS TO BE CLAIMED BY THE RIGHTFUL HEIR,” he says. Then he looks up, giving you a fiery eye-to-eye look. “THAT’S YOU! YOU’RE THE RIGHTFUL HEIR. THAT IS THE THING WHICH I AM INSINUATING CURRENTLY.”

You can smell burnt blood on him, and despite his resolve, he looks kind of wobbly, like he might fall over any second.

I'd rather not take this, honestly. I want to go clain landwells and maybe go back to hell some time? Maybe go to other worlds? Go fight, solve problems and get stronger? I want Ranthrix as our minion and we can just have him abandon his duties in this court or whatever and come with us.

Basically what I want is to go have adventures and become stronger before we go into business of politicking and ruling.

I think this is the best path to do that. We don't need to sit around ruling, it seems like a mostly honorary title that will give us a claim on local landwells and influence when we get to Hell.

Waldric probably just wants a stable environment to live his life.

The way I see it, claiming the fief will advance the "figure out what's up with the boat dream" plotline. Giving the fief to wally would give us a chance to do landwell-y shit and maybe run around as a landsknecht of his or something.

Yes we can. I very much doubt not picking Waldric will piss off Moriah even remotely.

Waldric is neither competent nor strong. I don't see any point to support him other than the fact that the alternative is snake lady. I guess Papa Crowther could keep Wally on a leash, so he could be the better pick.

>>
>>33518123
Isaac knows. He had suspicions ever since the "she's an Infernus-Belphagoran-Verwelkan" reveal, but he was having a heated "THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!" conversation with Borya and Cas. That sounds like he knows to me.
>>
>>33518218
We are not even in a position to punish Waldo. We may ask Crowther and/or Isaac to punish him but we can not really punish him ourselves. I see no reason to punish. If we want to be sore about walking into a trap we could just say fuck off to him about supporting him and let him deal with his own fight to rule.
>>
>>33518261
I know, I'm saying that we can't punish him or have any real reason like you repeated
>>
So Sierra should act nonchalant about this, Because since we realized that everybody know, she should also have realized it. We are her right?
She should be like "Yeah i could probably take the fief, ruling is in my blood after all."
If nobody knows we can be like "What, you guys haven't realized yet? At least you should have realized it Waldo."
And just smile wide as he realizes.
>>
>>33518261
him not instantly acknowledging our superiority and offering us the rule is TREASON in itself, and of cause leading us into a trap is only much worse, Rantrix did not betray us! Rantrix stayed loyal, while Waldo did not! TREASON

Did you really have to come here in your PJ’s? wouldn’t have been too much effort to like, throw on a pair of jeans or like, brush your hair or something. “Uh. You uh. You threw me out of a window,” you say lamely.

“I KNOW, YOU’RE WELCOME,” Ranthix tells you.

“How are you not dead?” you ask, somewhat overwhelmed by his sheer force of presence. “Meckor like. He trashed you. He didn’t have a scratch on him when I met up with him again. Can you even die? I mean, is that a thing?”

“NO,” he replies abruptly. “ACTUALLY YES IT IS A THING, BUT I CAN NEVER DIE WHEN IN THE SERVICE OF THE SPAWN OF CORITHIS, UNLESS I SUPPOSE I DO DIE FOR REAL, IN WHICH CASE YES, I WOULD BE DEAD,” he explains. “OTHERWISE I AM INVINCIBLE!”

“Right,” you say, kind of confused. “Look man you… like, saved my life and stuff already so thanks. Like, a lot. Really. You can like, go lie down or something. You don’t have to be out here right now.”
>>
So, what the fuck are we arguing about? I tabbed out after I responded to Languid's last post.

it wouldnt be perfect but it would still be better

someone like sierra passively sitting on the fief means less incentive for demons to cause trouble no matter which way you turn it
>>
>>33519101

Ranthix blinks blearily at you. “SO BE IT. BUT I WILL… BE JUST OVER THERE. YES. AT YOUR SERVICE AT ANY TIME,” he says. And then Ranthix rises and walks toward the door. He turns and points a claw at you. “ANY TIME,” he reiterates. And then he walks out the door, sill muttering audibly to himself. “To serve the Imperiate at… an instant’s warning….”

His tail snakes through the doorway after him, and he’s out. The emotional vibes and sensations seem to get way quiet after he’s gone. He’s a kind of one hundred percent demon guy, all the time.

Wolfgang kneels briefly and rights the table Ranthix knocked over.

“So I take it you know about the whole me being the Imperiate’s daughter, then,” you say. You don’t have the energy to make a big deal of it.

“Kind of hard not to hear him raving about it,” Wolfgang says, smirking at you.

“I don’t know what he’s thinking,” you say. Well, you kind of do. He’s thinking you’re something you’re not. “I don’t even know what I’d do with a fief. I don’t even really know what fief means,” you say.

“You wouldn’t really have to do anything,” says Moriah, matter of factly. “You could just delegate. That’s what a lot of demon lords do. It’s more of a title than an actual job.”
>>
>>33519101
>BUT I CAN NEVER DIE WHEN IN THE SERVICE OF THE SPAWN OF CORITHIS
Welp. If they didn't know already, they do now.
>>
>>33519137
I vote we delegate matters of diplomacy and intrigue to Ranthix.
>>
>>33519131

Waldric heaves a sigh. “Titles come with political power and responsibility,” he says. “I know how both are used. Although, I suppose Sierra would make an effective figurehead.” He gives you a kind of annoying wink, probably just to get a rise out of you. “Imagine. The daughter of Corithis, out of nowhere. The courts would be in an uproar.”

“I forbid you from dragging Sierra into your politics,” says Maviel, sitting up away from Waldric.
>>
>>33519131
>“You wouldn’t really have to do anything,” says Moriah, matter of factly. “You could just delegate. That’s what a lot of demon lords do. It’s more of a title than an actual job.”
I want the fief. Give me the fief.
>>
>>33519166

“Of course, no one would be dragged,” says Mr. Crowther. “That would be a decision she would have to make herself,” says Mr. Crowther, regarding you carefully. “Waldric is from a minor family. He lacks clout. Of course, if not in reality, his rule would be respected in word. The noble families do delight in giving their word.”

>Whatever, I’m not doing anything. Last thing I need is attention. You can have the fiefdom or whatever, so long as you don’t kill people or be evil and stuff.
>Well, what exactly are you going to do with a fief anyway, Waldric? I mean, what’s it matter if I help you or not?
>Mr. Crowther, you’re like, smarter than me and I’m pretty sure you’re smarter than Waldric, so why don’t you just take over? You’re already the Magister, it’s pretty much your job anyway, isn’t it?
>What difference would it make if I said I was demon lord versus if somebody else did?
>Basically we're saying that if I do this, hell or Halth or whatever isn't going to send any more demons up here? And I just have to sit here and do nothing.

I'd reaaally like to take over it, and cause uproar in the demon courts but that could also bring more trouble into our doorstep and that'd be extra shit.

also MUH FIEF

Also,

All of Ranbro's dialogue makes my sides teleport to Halth

Omg i just thought of something, once we get the fief (if we get it), we can start enforcing underworld tax if its not already in place, like tax the bloods, crips and other criminal organisations, for operating in the area of San Francisco

dis gunna be gud
