You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and a lot of things have changed in your life since you died.

You were sitting at home, in your now-empty house, taking a bit of a breather. All the chaos of the past weekend was really making you appreciate how nice it is to have a little bit of time without anything going wrong, without any threats or violence or people trying to kill you, without anything to worry about. And then there was a knock on the door.

A knock on the door is not ordinarily a reason for worry and panic. But, well, you’ve made quite a few enemies, all things considered. And you’re not expecting anyone.

... Oh, wait. You are expecting someone. But if it’s Masami, she must have rushed out the door the moment she got your text and run all the way here. She’s got a remarkable amount of energy for a tiny Japanese girl, but that’s still quite impressive.

You swing the door open with a ready smile. “Come on in, sit down, we’ll - oh. Uh. Hi.”

Jill steps carefully past you, the door pushing itself closed. There’s a shaky but fixed smile on her face.

You follow her into the lounge, still trying to gather your thoughts. Jill sits down on the sofa, folding her hands in her lap and nervously twiddling her fingers. Part of your brain calmly flicks over her outfit - conservative and sensible but still showing curves, flattering colours, trace amounts of makeup, hair done neatly. Wants to appear beautiful without giving off sexual signals. Insecure about physical appearance. Eyes slightly red and puffy. Fidgeting. Nervous, upset. Vulnerable to emotional manipulation - okay, that’s enough, that’s more than enough. The more human parts of your brain toss a bag over that part’s head and shove it into the cellar, for now at least. And Jill is talking, quietly but slowly, tripping over many of her words.

“I j-just th-thought that we should talk. About stuff. You could - I mean, we could - I mean - I mean, it wasn’t your fault, right? There was magic or demons or, or something? I’ve known you for years. You’re a good guy. I just can’t understand why - so it can’t have been your fault.”

“Jill, look, I -“

“No, no, it’s okay, I should be apologising to you, jumping to conclusions about my friend. Friends don’t - friends don’t do bad things to each other.” She clutches her hands tightly against each other.

“Look, um, this isn’t the best - “ You glance at the door.

“If I could just stay a little while? Miranda’s vanished and my mother...“ She glances away. “I don’t have anywhere else to go. Just empty houses.”

What do you want to do?

Let her stay, thank her for atleast giving us another chance.

"Of course, Jill. The rest of my family is out of town for a week, and I'm sure that they wouldn't mind. I'll fix up a room for you. But to let you know, Masami is coming over in a bit to watch some of her anime DVD's.
"And thank you, Jill, for giving me another chance."

It was partly our fault; we did make that choice. It's also our darkest instincts made manifest due to our condition. I think it's important that we own up to it, and tell Jill that we have been doing everything we can to keep that part of ourselves contained, now that we know how dangerous it can be, and to make it up to Avril, even though she knocked us out to take the throne (which we would have given to her if she had just asked).

Not being truthful about it runs the risk of Jill going Carrie if our falsehood is found out.

"Ok, look, Jill, I can -"

"Please, Chris. I'm sorry I was mad at you, I - I'm sorry that I d-didn't -"

"Jill, be quiet a moment. You can stay, alright? There's - oof." Jill leaps from her seat and wraps her arms around you, squeezing tight. If you still needed to breath, she'd probably be squeezing the oxygen out of your lungs. As it is, it's still pretty uncomfortable. You gently reach back and prise her arms off you.

"Okay, look, my family is out of town for a week, so there are some spare rooms here. I'm sure they'd understand. But Masami is supposed to be coming over in a little while to watch some DVDs, okay, so if you could maybe just go upstairs or something?"

"Are you sure I can't stay down here? I haven't seen Masami since, um..." Jill blushes, but smiles. "It would be nice to hang around with her again. Like old times. Almost."

"Well, maybe, if -"

You're interrupted by another knock on the door, and then a creaking sound as it swings open. Masami's voice wafts through from the hall.

"Chris? Is everything okay? The door wasn't locked and - oh, there you are." She pokes her head around the doorframe, smiling. "And Jill too! Hey! It's good to see you again. I brought some shows you might like, actually."

"Right. First, Masami, could you go actually close and lock the front door?."

"Already did. Must have just not caught properly the first time." She walks into the lounge, carrying a plastic carrier bag full of DVD boxes, and settles down on the sofa, directly across from the TV.

"So, uh..." Masami pauses, looking back and forth between you and Jill. "Am I watching anime today, or something else?"

Jill blushes bright red from ear to ear, and you sigh, picking up Masami's bag and rifling through it.

[]Action! Adventure! Maybe a touch of giant robots.
[]Something sweet and romantic.
[]Now how did that get in there? Masami, you naughty girl.
[]Something classic with an epic story.

Something to get our minds off of things and so we can just relax as friends. It'll help Jill settle down, and the more friendship we have with Masami, the better.

"So hey, this looks good. Lots of action, giant robots battling it out, big robot lion on the cover, probably stuff exploding. Nice simple fun, right?"

Masami smiles, getting up to put the DVD into the player. "Sounds good to me." Jill looks a bit more sceptical, but she takes a seat on one end of the sofa, and you quickly end up with a girl leaning on you on either side as the opening credits roll.

The episodes seem quite short, but you're still aware that running through the entire series would take a couple of days, and that's not really the point in any case. It's just nice to kick back, relax with some friends, and watch giant robots beating each other up. The first story arc, 7 episodes or so, lasts a couple of hours, and by the time it's done you're ready to sit around with some delivered pizza and just chat and laugh and speculate about what you've been watching and what might happen next. After all the craziness of the last couple of days, it's refreshing to do something semi-normal.

Is there anything you want to do or say while you're sitting around chatting with Masami and Jill? You need to get on with sorting out the party eventually, but not for a little while.
>>
>>33434282
Talk to Masami about Louie, if she's still seeing him.
Talk to Jill, ask if she's feeling better now.
Planning the small party might be a good normal-ish thing to talk about.

We never did actually explain that it was - for lack of a more coherent IC terminology - an accident, but it's kinda mega-awkward to talk about with Masami here.

Maybe talk about Masami's thing, if it's not too awkward? We did get confirmation from the Man that she should be able to just ask and get out of it, if she wants to.

I'd like to ask Masami if she is jealous of Louie...and if she feels like, you know. Having another show.

The thought of these two make me have lewd thoughts. Damnit.

Tell them about the party, I guess?

O-oh, too late...

"So, Jill, how are you feeling? Did the pizza do you some good?"

She smiles - it's still a little shaky, but it seems genuine. "I think so, yeah. It was really good. And I think this did me some good, too, just... being reminded that I have friends. People who care about me." Her thin, sad smile is heartbreaking, and you try to shift the conversation to safer ground.

"By the way, I'm having a bit of a party tonight, just to celebrate... well, everything turning out okay after the wild couple of days we just had. You're both invited, of course, assuming you want to come?"

Jill smiles and hugs you, which is probably a yes. Masami looks you up and down for a second, considering.

"Okay, I'll come. Who else have you invited so far?"

"Not many people so far - I'm still working out who I need to invite. Ajani and Gloria. You two. That's it so far. Uh... how well are you and Louie doing, Masami? He seems like a pretty fun guy."

"We're doing pretty good. We went swimming yesterday while everything was going down, just dived deep down to the bottom of the pool and let it all wash over the surface far above us. It was calming, you know? And as for fun..." Masami gives you a sly grin. "Well, you remember, don't you? He can be very fun indeed if you give him a chance. Maybe we'll get another chance like that soon. What do you think?"

"I'll think about it, Masami. How are things going for you, with... certain other things? It seems like Louie calms you down sometimes."

She nods slowly. "Yeah, maybe. I've been more worried about other things lately. It hasn't felt quite so pressing. But it's not gone away. I don't suppose it'll ever go away."

"I wouldn't be so sure on that. I heard some things recently... but that's a conversation for later. Let's get this tidied up and we can get started on sorting that party out. It's going to be awesome."

Hmmm. Between revisions I seem to have taken out all the other hints. Sorry. I'm just going to go ahead and say it's Zoids, then. You can't be expected to figure that out just from 'robot lion'.))
