You are Christopher Phillips, previously just another teenage nerd living in a small English town, and a lot of things have changed in your life since you died.

Things are now starting to settle down, at least from the previous height of “horrible monsters from outside reality are going to kill us all”. Ajani and Gloria are rescued, the aforementioned horrible monsters are banished, and Isabella is back - you’ve just finished giving her a recap of the events of the last few hours. Even as you’re telling the tale, it seems hard to believe, but Isabella just nods along until you get to the end.

“I feel like I’ve been running a marathon or something. After-effects of whatever happened to me, I guess. You’re pretty sure the current panic is all over, right?”

“Pretty sure. The town should be safe - I guess we can start un-evacuating people.”

“Hmm. I’d rather leave it for a few days, or at least until tomorrow. Both because it looks more credible, and because I could really use some sleep.” She stretches again and yawns. “Ping me tomorrow morning and we’ll work out what to do about that.”

“Ping you?”

“Send me a telepathic message or a mind-speaking or whatever you want to call it. Ping me. You know what I mean. Anyway, later. Uh... later, boss,” she adds, seeing your raised eyebrow.

“That’ll do. See you later.”

The big problem may have been dealt with, but there’s no rest for the wicked. What do you need to sort out now?

[]Cassandra is still prowling around out there, drinking blood and leaving awkward-to-explain corpses and ghosts all over. She needs putting in her place. Or possibly putting in an urn.
[]Avril is the most important thing to focus on. She defied you directly. You can’t let that stand.
[]You promised Ajani and Gloria a victory party. Should you get started on organising that now?
[]Wasn’t there something else that you’re forgetting? Something else you meant to do... [Custom]

We need to solidify our friendship/relationship with Masami. Right now, though, we can go with Isabella and Charm her father so that he does better at the stock market.

Cassandra will have to wait a bit until Isabella is rested. We may want to put her under our control; if not, then she needs to be put down.

((I guess I'll start writing. Hopefully more people will show up later. If you're lurking and feel embarrassed to just post an 'I agree with X' - post it anyway. Everything helps.))
>>

Actually, this seems like an excellent opportunity.

"Isabella, wait up!"

She turns, confused. "You need me for something? Are you sure it can't wait til tomorrow?"

"Other way round, actually. You remember you told me about your dad's troubles with his company?"

"Yeeees?" she replies, curiously but cautiously.

"I might be able to help him out a little."

Isabella stares at you. "No offence, Chris, but what the fuck do you know about the stock market?"

"Oh, nothing. I didn't mean giving him stock tips. I just figured I'd cheat. Give him some magical boosts. Blessing of luck, or - not luck, but control over money or something, I don't know. I'll figure something out. I've got pretty powerful magic to throw around now." You grin at the confused look on Isabella's face, which slowly turns thoughtful.

"I was trying something like that before, before the whole demon thing, just trying to get the attention of any powers I could bargain with. I guess this is sort of the same deal, just... bigger?"

"Bigger is right. You've held up your side of the bargain pretty well so far - time for me to do my part. Did your father evacuate somewhere?"

She shakes her head. "He was helping me sort out the evacuation, and... well, I couldn't tell him what was actually going on, he doesn't even know anything about magic, but he could tell *something* was fishy, and he knew we were giving fake reasons for evacuating everyone. He and Mother were staying put for now, to manage and coordinate things. You'll have to come up to my place."

"At least it'll be in better circumstances this time."

"True," Isabella pauses and grins. "Of course, they could have been very good circumstances indeed, if you'd been a bit more amenable. Might have saved us all a bit of trouble."

You give a non-committal grunt in reply and gather your things.

Isabella’s mansion is much as you remember it, albeit a lot less lively without hedonistic partygoers draped over every piece of furniture. The soft couches and high-backed chairs take on a more dignified air, and with normal household lighting instead of multicoloured disco lights you can see a variety of pieces of framed artwork on the walls.

Isabella’s mother and father are having their evening meal when you drop by, in a large and well-apportioned dining room that looks disturbingly empty with just the two of them. Isabella curtseys and introduces you as ‘Christopher, a close friend of mine who was helping me out with something earlier’. Her parents exchange knowing glances and give you their best totally insincere smiles and greetings. You would, of course, be welcome to stay for supper if it weren’t for the cook not having been notified in advance that you were coming. Perhaps next time. Such a shame.

Not staying for supper doesn’t impede you much, since it’s the work of a moment to take hold of a thread of destiny and wrap it carefully around your metaphorical finger, and the work of another moment to join it to Isabella’s father. There’s no visible change - his eyes don’t glaze over, he doesn’t suddenly perk up and start spouting stock tips - but you can sense the paths of the future shifting and bending, just a little bit, just tilting slightly more in one direction than in another. Hopefully it’ll be enough.

You give Isabella a slight, subtle nod, and she un-tenses so obviously that you’re not entirely sure how her parents don’t notice - or whether they did, and are just pretending otherwise. Either way, you make some feeble, hasty excuses and hurry off. Isabella follows you to the front door and gives you a quick, wordless hug before you leave. Her hair smells lovely - focus. Focus. The sun is long set, and you head for home and a familiar bed.

Your parents and your little sister are sitting in the living room when you get in. Confusion and fear battle across their faces. Right. You knew you were forgetting something.

Your parents look helplessly at you, waiting for some sort of explanation for all the bizarre events of the last day or so. What do you want to do?
>>
>>33133111
We can't just tell them that we're undead or that we're now in the permanent employ of the manifestation of control and domination.

Maybe a little white lie is in order.
That Coriander was working for one of the higher ups that Jason, the drug dealer, worked for.
That our actions against Jason at the dance didn't go unnoticed.
That we were able to get rid of him for a while by leveraging the influence of some connections we've made recently.
And that involving the police wouldnt be too good, both because we don't want attention to come to us, and there's no evidence.
>>
>>33131464
Sorry, I must've missed the tweet or just didn't click it or something.

>>33133111
What exactly kind of explanation are we talking about? There was a fuckoff huge hiatus and I'm not sure what happened over the "last day or so".

((This is good, but working with so few posts is really causing me to struggle. I think the thread may need to close early soon. Writing, anyway.))

Welp, her hair smells nice. I'm convinced.

>Stick dick in Isabella.

Now that Avril and Jill don't want anything with Chris anymore, I don't see why not. We could even go after Louie again.

There's the problem that it will increase the appetite of our Darkest Self, and we can't ignore its hungers.
>>
>>33135007
Nah, Darkest Self isn't a big deal as long as we don't go full retard again.
>>
>>33135007
>>33135159
Plus we get XP from having sex, and with Avril and Jill gone, we're kinda short on that at the moment.
>>
>>33135213
>>33135007
Uh, no, did you forget that this time around when the Darkest Self's appetite for sex came around, that it nearly took us over in the middle of school, with no rolls to try to resist it?
>>
>>33135007

Darkest Self is not a real problem anymore.

Supporting Hasp + Jason thing.

Voting we take Avril next; let's end this once and for all.
>>
>>33135357
Before we take on Avril we need to know if our juice pool has been filled back up or not.
We'll look pretty goddamned stupid if we go to fight her and none of our higher powers work.
>>
>>33135357
I'm against going after Avril. We've got bigger problems than her, and getting her won't help with them.
In fact, they'll probably just make things worse.

>>33135326
>citation
First, the Monsterhearts game setting. We are a ghoul, and when we have sex with someone, we develop a hunger specifically for them; the more people we have sex with, the more hungers we have to sate, and they're all on separate timers.
Also, session 27, we needed to satiate the hungers before we lost control.
>>
>>33134953
>Jill
We really need to see what the fuck is up with her and her vanishing act and slowly repair things with Avril because it would be fucking retarded for those two threads to singlehandedly gut this quests of all its character interaction and the development between Chris and the girls.

50~ threads down the drain...

I'd have been here in the thread earlier but you kind of started at 5AM my time OP...
>>
>>33135357
>Voting we take Avril next; let's end this once and for all.
I wouldn't say a 'once and for all' attitude is what we want with dealing with Avril.

Hell I'd be happy with slow progress to stabilize things and start our way to repairing that bridge.
>>
>>33136071
>if we go to fight her
I'd rather not 'fight' her, but instead use our powers to gain an 'in' with her and start repairing/creating a new relationship there.
>>
>>33137388
That's you, me, and the other guy versus the ones who can't forgive Avril for what she did, even though we've done worse, as evidenced by Jill not coming back.
>>
>>33137444
Oh I'm having a damn hard time forgiving what she did and don't think I will, not for a long time, but I don't want to take the sledgehammer approach and ruin things.

>Jill not coming back.
She really needs to sort her shit out and come the fuck back because we just got done saving the universe and really could have used her help but she had to go and randomly be off-screen since forever ago.
>>
>>33137557
>we just got done saving the universe
Just this small piece of Creation; if the Excrutians had tried anything bigger, then one of the Bosses (Dagon, Yig, Cthulhu, Nodens) would have come down and told them to fuck off.
And she's gone because she found out that her boyfriend is a rapist fuck who raped her lover.
Not to mention, with her powers as they are now, she wouldn't have been of much use against Coriander anyway.
>>
>>33137623
>And she's gone because she found out that her boyfriend is a rapist fuck who raped her lover.
seems pretty fucking hollow for 40 odd threads to just be rendered meaningless and one of the main characters just walk off-screen like that especially after everything chris and the girls have been through together and the kind of DRAMA that OP and monsterhearts is so fond of
>>
>>33137623
>Not to mention, with her powers as they are now, she wouldn't have been of much use against Coriander anyway.
No but she would have helped, been another set of eyes and hands to distract him.

But instead she's just gone *poof*.
>>
>>33137708
>seems pretty fucking hollow
What, it'd be better if she forgave Chris for keeping this a secret from her all this time and only told her because he had to otherwise Avril would have blown the secret herself?

>>33137738
>been another set of eyes and hands to distract him.
Don't you mean another person that could have been targeted and gotten themselves killed?

The ONLY reason we were able to beat Coriander is because we had both ourselves and The Man manifested, using our powers to make Hasp vulnerable to bullets.
Even then, Jill wouldn't have brought anything more useful to the fight compared to an Uzi.
>>
>>33137801
>What, it'd be better if she forgave Chris for keeping this a secret from her all this time and only told her because he had to otherwise Avril would have blown the secret herself?
No, but we could at least start to deal with all this stupid fucking interrelationship drama instead of just having 2/3rds of the cast walk off-screen to never be seen again.

I still remember (only just) the first threads and catching up on thread #6 IIRC that was the train-wreck, and this honestly feels like an entirely different quest, like it just had the guts ripped from it and is a hollow husk of what it used to be (much like Chris...).

It just feels sad and depressing that something that used to be so good has been utterly ruined by a single thread fucking months ago and OP is somehow determined to let that single event make sure this quest dies a slow and painful pathetic death.
>>
>>33137905
You mean that the players can't just revel in their power anymore and actually have to live with the consequences of their choices.

As for having 2/3rds of the cast walk-off?
You would have preferred if they had stuck around to get killed by the Excrucians?
We needed Avril and Esther for mooks, not for them to try fighting directly. No one except Chris and Isabella being puppet-mastered by the Man could have actually stood a chance against the two.
In fact, most of the people who did the fighting are dead. That's what would have happened if we had brought Jill to this fight.
>>
>>33137905
>complain about interrelationship drama
>in a quest using the game that's all about interrelationship drama
The focus of Monsterhearts is interrelationship drama and having characters in conflict with their darker natures.
That's the whole point of the game.
>>
>>33138055
>You mean that the players can't just revel in their power anymore and actually have to live with the consequences of their choices.
Not at all, but learning some responsibility and control hue shouldn't have to be so painfully stupid and detrimental.

>You would have preferred if they had stuck around to get killed by the Excrucians?
No, I would have preferred if they could have supported our efforts in bringing other allies to the fight.

Also now that we've got somewhat of a level up we could start using our powers on our allies and people like Jill to make them more powerful to help us, but conveniently they ain't around.
>>
>>33138109
Yes it is, I'm not disregarding that.

But there ain't any relationship happenings at all because OP has just removed them all from the quest so we can't even attempt to try and deal with that drama.

Honestly this quest was much better when it was just dealing with the interrelationship drama while at high-school. Now I don't know what the fuck this is, but it does not hold a candle to what it used to be and I'm not seeing OP make any moves towards restoring that fun balance there used to be and make this enjoyable again.
>>
>>33138185
This may not be enjoyable to you, but I am enjoying it, and so is OP.
Maybe you should just leave.
>>
>>33138130
>if they could have supported our efforts in bringing other allies to the fight.
What other allies, and what could they have done except get killed as faceless mooks with no real impact on the real fight?

In fact, that's pretty much what we saw happening in the vision we had.

Getting more allies would have actually hurt us, rather than helped us. Not just because the allies wouldn't have been powerful enough to be of use, but also because Coriander would have turned that planning against us.

>we could start using our powers on our allies and people like Jill to make them more powerful to help us
They don't WANT to help us anymore. Maybe you should address why they should want to be our friends instead of complaining that they're not mindlessly loyal NPC's.
>>
>>33138224
Well I'm holding out hope that things will improve and a good 2/3rds of the quest won't continue to be rendered meaningless.

I'd like to enjoy this like I used to, which is why I try to catch the threads when I can and not troll the crap out of it like some other shitposters.

But this discussion ain't really going anywhere and OP is long gone so I'm gonna let this thread die.
>>
>>33138224
>and so is OP.
Well OP had enough to work with earlier and just up and dropped it, so that might not be the case.
>>
>>33138185
>OP has just removed them all from the quest
There's still Isabella, Masami, Louie, Zack, Esther.
Yes, we lost three relationships that we spent considerable time on, but failure is always a possible consequence.
>>
>>33138307
>They don't WANT to help us anymore. Maybe you should address why they should want to be our friends instead of complaining that they're not mindlessly loyal NPC's.
That's what I want to actually do anon, but there's seemingly very little chances for that.

>Getting more allies would have actually hurt us, rather than helped us.
For some reason I just imagined a shitposter trying to use that as justification for raping Avril, I think that's as good a sign as any that I need some sleep.
>>
>>33138358
>but failure is always a possible consequence.
I totally accept that, but for fucks sake its been long enough that we should start being able to attempt to fix those failures.
>>
>>33138405
>I just imagined a shitposter trying to use that as justification for raping Avril
That makes no sense in the context of what I was saying, especially since Coriander's power is to cause plans to fuck up. The better the plan, the more parts it has, the greater the failure.
That's pretty much what the vision showed, with the Fae fighting Esther's soldiers. If we had gotten more allies, our plan would have failed hard.
>>
>>33138436
>its been long enough that we should start being able to attempt to fix those failures.
It's been less than two months, in-game.
In fact, I don't think its been a month since we raped Avril. That's really not a lot of time.
>>
>>33138465
Totally agreeing with you there, that comment wasn't meant to be serious or make sense.
