You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

The sun is already starting to rise when the SUV pulls into the office. Your idols, all dirty, tired, and scratched up, slowly pile out of the vehicle.

"I hope you had a nice trip!" NEMO says cheerfully to deaf ears.

"I just wanna go back to sleep..." Cole groans.

"KZ, are you gonna be okay?" Rochelle says worriedly to her Cyber Hound, which was picked up a bit of limp due to damage it sustained from the earlier battle.

"DIAGNOSTICS REPORT THAT DAMAGE IS MINOR." K-Zwolf rumbles. "MASTER HAS NO NEED TO WORRY."

"One more criminal brought to JUSTICE!" Julie grins, not look tired at all despite having a few minor bruises and scratches. "Totally worth getting up early for."

"I don't know if straight up killing a guy is justice, even if he was a cyborg..." Melissa frowns.

"Nonsense! Capital punishment is always a viable sentence!"

"Anyways, girls." You cough to interrupt them. "Good job, all of you. You all have the rest of the day off. I'll inform the others that you don't need to come to practice today."

The girls all cheer, though it's a bit subdued due to their fatigue and they quickly begin shirking off their gear.

Meanwhile, you've got a lot to do.

Order K-Zwolf to Falynn for repairs, then take the killer's body to the workshop. We won't need to be there for it, but it isn't getting any fresher.

You decide to have the Idol Killer's body taken to the workshop to get it analyzed. As you idols leave, you grab a cart and carefully but unceremoniously dump the body right on top if it. You then push the cart to the workshop nearby, while K-Zwolf limps behind you, no doubt seeking repairs as well.

However, you don't see Falynn at the workshop. Then again, the hour was pretty early, so you figure that she was still asleep. Well, you knew a thing or two about augmetics, considering you had a few augmetic parts yourself...

Falynn opens the door with a yawn. She is at least moderately dressed, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. She rubs the sleep out of her eyes and looks up at you.

"Producer? What's up with the early start?"

"Sorry about waking you up so early." You say. "But I got a surprise for you downstairs. Think of it as an early Christmas present."

"Oh? What kind of present?" Falynn raises an eyebrow.

"A slightly intact combat cyborg."

You don't even finish the sentence as Falynn is already out the door. You just smile and shake your head before making your way back down to the workshop. Somehow, Falynn had already changed into her regular work clothes and was ogling the Idol Killer's cyborg body.

"Holy SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT. It's a Cyberdyne C-100 combat shell! That's top of the line shit! Well, top of the line a few years ago, but it's still something!"

"I'm glad you like it." You laugh. "Have you had a chance to look at K-Zwolf, too?"

"Oh yeah, he's got quite a bit of damage." Falynn nods. "I'm guessing he took a hit from this guy here? Not only are his leg servos damaged, but the blow knocked a lot things loss internally, not to mention I need to replace a lot of the armor, too. Not too hard, but it'll take time."

"Man, who caused all this damage?" Falynn asks.

"Melissa."

"Ah. Damn, she was pretty rough with this guy." Falynn sighs. "At least she opened him up for me."

Falynn continues to dig through the cyborg's chest, pulling out random components and muttering to herself.

"Man, torso and internals are a complete wreck. It's probably only good for scrap at this point." Falynn sighs, and then blinks. "Wait.... oh, OH!"

"What's up?"

"His brain case is still active!" Falynn smiles. "Should've figured .Milspec braincases are designed to operate independently from the body. But... with all this damage extracting it might be tricky. I might wreck the thing if something goes wrong..."

>STAR POWER USED
>You have 2 points remaining.

"Aw yeah!" Falynn grins. "Looks like I got something!"

"Like?" You ask.

"Well, there was a lot of leftover synthetic muscle I managed to pull out of the limbs. High grade milspec stuff. We can probably slap it onto Melissa or K-Zwolf if you want. But this... THIS thing is the crown jewel!"

>TYPHOON SUBMUNITION DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM
>A specialized launcher system that can fire small but powerful bomblets in a 360 degree arc of fire, causing widespread damage.

"Wow." You whistle. "That sounds pretty powerful. Wonder why he didn't use that."

"Probably because he didn't have the ammo." Falynn shrugs. "The type of ammunition this thing uses is nonstandard and pretty hard to get, but I'm sure Marc can get it for us."

"So what can we do with it?"

"One of two things." Falynn raises two fingers. "One, I can turn it into a new module for K-Zwolf, with obvious results. Two, I can convert it into a backpack system for use by any of our combat idols. They can use it for full area saturation, or they would even be able to deploy it as a defense system. However, it's gonna be pretty heavy and they wouldn't be able to carry as much ammo as K-Zwolf could."

"How many uses?"

"Probably one or two for a person. K-Zwolf could carry enough for four uses."

"Hmmmm..."

Unless the mission is specifically planned to have one of the girls jump in the middle of a room and explode the everything, it would be more useful as a self defense weapon for a girl on her lonesome (i.e., a sniper).

Guys, regarding the intel we get from the guy's head, I propose we share the intel with both Zenith and Horizon.

Zenith because they played a part in the killing, they have every right to it during the joint op.

"I'll be taking the brain over to Himawari then." You say.

"Yeah, you go do that!" Falynn says without turning around as she continues her grisly work.

You gently pick up the brain case. It's much, much heavier than you thought it would be. You gently set it down on a cart and start pushing it over to the data center. On the way, you key our comm to call up Jenner.

"Producer, I suppose the mission went well?"

"Yeah, we got the bastard." You confirm. "How are things going on your end?"

"Well enough. Rin and Niko are already in warmup. Rin's grandfather is also here with us. It'll be the first time he gets to see his granddaughter in a live show."

"You sure he's not just there to steal more womens' underwear?" You laugh.

"Don't worry. I have him under very VERY close watch." Jenner grumbles. "Morgan and Sparky are running a perimeter check, and they haven't found anything out of the ordinary. I believe this will be an uneventful performance."

"I hope so." You say as you arrive at the data center. "Anyways, I gotta go. See you!"

You cut comms and approach the door, but before you can even knock, it slides open to reveal Himawari. Thankfully dressed. Of course she'd be awake.

"Morning, Producer." Himawari says and looks at your cargo. "I see we stealing people's brains now?"

"Just this particular one." You say. "Can you pull anything from it?"

"Hmmmm, it looks to be a Cyberdyne Mark 5 brain case. It's going to be tough to crack. They use some high level encryptions to protect brain activity. If I don't do it right, it might lock me out, or worse, destroy the brain. Depends what setting they put it on, really."

"Is there a, well, less risky option?" You ask.

"I guess we can try talking to him." You say.

"Oh, well then that's simple, then." Himawari grabs a cable and plugs it into the back of the brain case. "With this, we'll be able to interact with him. All he can do is see our inputs and reply to them. Just remember, he'll still be conscious and have full mental faculties while in this state, so you'll have to to treat it as talking to an actual person."

"I got it." You nod. "Hit it."

Himawari hits a key, and the main screen turns into a text prompt.

"All right, let's start things off simple." You speak to the computer as it transcribes your words into text. "What's your name?"

>MY NAME IS CAPTAIN GATO BRENNER.

Huh, simple enough.

"All right, I know you're military. What's your unit? What did you do?"

CAPTAIN GATO BRENNER. US ARMY. ID NUMBER 4591841.

"Why were you going around killing idols?" You ask.

CAPTAIN GATO BRENNER. US ARMY. ID NUMBER 4591841.

"Were you working alone? Working under orders?"

CAPTAIN GATO BRENNER. US ARMY. ID NUMBER 4591841.

That repeating line didn't really surprise you. It was the textbook response to interrogation. It seems that whoever this Gato guy was, he was definitely military. You see Himawari do a quick search on his name. It pulls up a basic file. A little TOO basic. You've been on enough secret ops to know when an operative's record had been thoroughly scrubbed. Whatever this guy had been up to in his military career, somebody didn't want anybody else to know. However, it was another potential lead you could use.

If we do actually have connections to a special forces colonel or a senator or something, please correct me.

So what are we exactly gonna do with this guy after we're done with him? I remember seeing suggestions of outright killing him, uploading him into a vacuum cleaner, etc.

And heaven forbid, uploading him onto future 4chan so futureanons can mess with his brain....
>>
>>33078783
> foreign governments
Yeaaah, that's the key word here. A foreign government halfway across the world with armies and shit is quite a different animal than an idol/mercenary company in your backyard. Especially an idol/mercenary company looking for very specific information regarding classified black ops missions that they may or may not want anyone knowing about.

It could be harmless and Producer gets off with a slap on the wrist, or it would probably result in some VERY unwanted attention.

"Hmmmmmmm." Himawari narrows her eyes.

"Did you find anything?" You ask.

"I managed to pull a few loose bits out, but that encryption is still keeping me locked out." Himawari sighs. "At least none of the defense mechanisms have triggered yet."

"What have you got?"

"Well..." Himawari hits a key and a jumble of code pops up on the screen You can't make out any of it. They might as well be written in Byzantine as far as you were concerned. However, HImawari seems to be able to read it like a book, judging from how her eyes were darting back and forth rapidly.

"Huh."

"Huh what?"

"This guy..." Himawari frowns. "Whatever he's doing, he thinks he's under orders to do it. He still considers himself to be part of the army."

You glance at his file again. It mentioned that he was already retired.

"So, the two possibilities here are that he's actually working under orders, or he's deluded himself into thinking he is?"

"Seems about right." Himawari nods. "He might have a souped up brain case and body, but he was one of the early gen cyborgs, or was crazy to begin with, well... that could explain things."

"Is that it, then?" You ask.

"Yeah. It's just a partial." Himawari shrugs.

On the other hand, backing off for now and trying to gather information from the military angle COULD, and I repeat, COULD give us information to use to interrogate him. We know that he believes he's under orders, so if we can figure out who used to give him orders, we could use that as ammunition. Hm...

Well, while we wait to see what happens, I'm going to blather about (my assumptions regarding) the system of this game.

So, the stats and skills are all single digits, and the girls that get bonuses in certain events get them in increments of +1. I'm going to assume that whenever we roll the dice, it's d20 + stat + skill + situational modifier, with DCs at 5 (routine, pretty much only roll if you really, really, REALLY suck), 10 (common task that you could possibly mess up but otherwise should be able to perform so long as you're passingly capable), 15 (challenging task), 20 (difficult task), and 25 (nearly impossible task). Judging by the effect of the cracking, I'm going to assume that the DC to crack the brain was 20 (Himawari COULD have a bonus of +8, but I doubt it): it wasn't enough to succeed, but close enough that it wasn't an outright failure and something could be gleaned.

"Let's do it." You say grimly.

"Okay..." Himawari places a headset on you. "It's gonna feel a bit... uncomfortable at first. Just bear with it, okay?"

"What do you mean-"

Suddenly your wince as it feels like somebody dragging their nails across a chalkboard in your head. You feel intense pain for a brief second and you shut your eyes.

When you open again, the data center is gone. Instead, you're in a jungle. Your head turns, but you don't consciously do it. You realize that you're not just seeing the world, you're seeing the world through HIS eyes.

You recognize this place. It was Vietnam. Well, Vietnam II, technically. You look up to the smoky sky and see American drones circling lazily in the air, looking for targets. You knew that the Vietnamese insurgents were hiding out in the jungle to elude the drones. They could only see so far into the foliage, after all.

And you're creeping along. You're alone. This is a solo mission, after all. The Colonel said it was a special job only you were capable of.

You find your target. It's as small village. No more than fifty people here. The Colonel said they're assisting the insurgents, but he has no proof. It was your job to draw them out by any means necessary. Not only were you to draw them out, but you needed to utterly demoralize them, too.

That's why you decided to focus on the girls. Psychologically, they were the best targets to demoralize a community.

The next few days go by so fast. In flashes. You watch the village girls from a distance at first, silently tracking them and memorizing their partners. Your first one was sloppy. You were scared and didn't know what you were doing. You got better after that, so much better. The later ones never had a chance to scream.

The insurgents came out after that. Some wanted to look for you, others wanted to run away. You made sure they didn't.

(cont)
>>
>>33079902

"Good job, soldier." The Colonel would say. He'd pat you on the back. "You'll get a medal for this."

He'd say that every time.

A little while later, you were in a hospital. You couldn't move much, though. They kept you tied down for your safety. You wanted to go back, though. To carry on the mission. The doctors didn't understand. How could they? They're just rear echelon. You left the hospital. You couldn't do any good in there.

The Colonel doesn't talk to you much these days anymore, though, but you know he still wanted you to continue his work. So that's what you do. Different country, same objectives and mission parameters.

Maybe if you did a good job the Colonel would talk to again. Pat you on the back. That felt good.

You just had to keep going.

Maybe the next one.

"Jesus!" You scowl as you pull the headset off, breaking the connection. That shit felt WAY too real.

"Did you find what you were looking for?" Himawari asks.

"Yeah, I guess." You sigh. This Brenner guy, who was a total nut. You're not sure if he was already crazy, or if his insanity was a result of the things he was made to do. In either case, this guy couldn't let go of the past."

"So? What's the verdict?" Himawari asks.

That's funny because I would want to ask the same thing of us if we just off a guy after learning what we just did.
>>
>>33079988
Well, before that, we contact the Major and the Tribunal to confirm with them that we get the idol killer, and we get the hard evidence to prove that.

If no one else has any interests with him, then he will be terminated immediately.

Yeah, I don't think that is the case, I think it's just a guy who went overboard on a mission by the time the war was over, he still thinks he's on that mission.

I think we need to check our head just incase nothing was left over.

Seems too convenient for an operator to randomly end up in a first world country after how many ever decades of wetwork.

"Well, um ,here." Himawari gives you a remote. "It's keyed to the system. Press that button, and it'll basically overload his system and fry everything all at once. Fast and simple."

You carefully pick up the remote and look at it for what seems to be a long time. However, you've killed a lot of people before, and this time would be no different. You press the button, and in an instant, with a crackle of energy, Gato Brenner is no more.

"I'll dispose of the brain." Himawari says quietly.

"Thanks." You sigh, suddenly feeling very tired.

You open up comms to the number the Tribunal had provided to you in the event you found the killer.

"Who is this?" One of the Tribunal members asks.

"This is the Producer of Clover Entertainment, reporting that we have tracked down and eliminated the Idol Killer." You announce.

"Have you, now?" The second Tribunal member chuckles. "Do you have proof, boy? We've already had a few false claims."

"I do. His name was Gato Brenner, and I have his memories on file. Look at them yourself." You say, nodding to Himawari to transmit the memories.

"My my, this all does seem very convincing." The first Tribunal member smiles. "I do believe this man here is telling the truth."

"Of course, it would take time to authenticate." The third Tribunal member adds in."

"I would also like to state that Zenith Entertainment also assist us in the killer, so they deserve some credit as well."

"Duly noted." The second Tribunal member nods. "We will be in touch."

You decide to call up the Captain, and open up the comm channel.

"Hey, Captain."

"Producer." She says curtly.

"So, you mentioned something about laying low at our office temporarily?"

"Ah, yes we did."

"When are you arriving?" You ask.

"I'm already at the front door." She says nonchalantly, as if this were perfectly normal.

"Um... how long have you been waiting outside?"

"Since last night."

"And... you never thought of saying something?" You sigh.

"It seemed rude."

Yep, the Captain would always be the Captain.

"Okay, I'm heading down to open the door, then." You say as you get up. After all these years, you're not exactly sure what Captain looked like now, since she was a full body cyborg. It was very possible she didn't change at all, or she was in a completely new body. You wouldn't know until you got a good look at her yourself.

Finally, you arrive at the front door and punch in your security code. The security doors wing open to reveal...

...a small, blue haired girl, who didn't appear to be much older than your idols. You just stand there dumbfounded.

"What's wrong, soldier? Something on my face?" Captain Richards raises an artificial eyebrow.

Sometimes... sometimes things just didn't make sense, especially ever since you became a Producer.

You weren't sure if you wanted to laugh or cry.

Well, actually, there is. It's tiring when the same character appears over. And over. And over again. She was in VMQ. She was in VMQ as her daughter. She was in PJ Quest. Sorry. I like some of the things Merc does, but other things he does is so infuriating.

>>33081261
Ghost In The Shell had very close to full functional cyborg bodies, I believe. Or at least close enough to fool people. That's not exactly proof, but since the Captain is (or was, I guess) based on Major Kusanagi, it's a decent assumption to make.

One more bitchfest before this thread closes, I guess: for the love of god, PLEASE don't make Captain an idol. Sure, it'd be funny, but when it comes to running missions, guess who's going to overshadow everyone else?

Initially she'll be a combat trainer. We already talked about it, asked her to give the girls some pointers while she is here.
>>
>>33081604
I don't mind either way to be honest. Either to help teach our idols or to help out in missions she'll be useful.

again I don't mind
>>
>>33081650
But what does she have that's not already there?

Military background and commando skills? Jenner is ex-military, too, and Rochelle is definitely proving herself the operator.

Out of touch with social norms shenanigans? Cole, Julie, and Melissa have that covered in varying but interesting ways.

Contact network of unusual people and sources? ... Well, she does have that, but that's a Major Kusanagi trait, not a Tarin trait.

Point is, Tarin doesn't bring anything new or interesting to the table. If she does, then she's not Tarin anymore and... well, I would actually appreciate that, because I'm tired of seeing the same character over and over again. If I wanted that I'd just pick three anime at random and go for it.

>>33081710
If you change that "initially" to... well, hell, just remove "initially" entirely and I'll be satisfied. I just don't want her overshadowing the girls.

Fuck. This is making me so mad and it's not even important. Merc does it to me every single time, somehow.

And plus there's already an oversaturation of characters and I'd liked it if we could focus on the ones we have instead of bringing in yet another one.

I guess I can understand that but I like Tarin so it hasn't really bothered me yet with her reappearance.

But she has been mention previously several times already and was a character.

I think the fact that a Tarin image was used you feel more frustrated then if it had been another girl then the fact that another character was introduced.

Either way it been mentioned she was going to be introduced a few threads ago anyway yet brought up now...I think Merc will be fine.

Yeah, I know the Captain was already a character, but initial prospects were pointing at her being a Major Kusanagi expy, who is quite a different character. And you're right that another character being thrown in isn't the problem (well, it's a problem of a different sort: we don't spend enough time on enough of our other idols, as we barely know anything about Melissa, Morgan, and... uh... Japanese gothpunkgirl, and we haven't even TALKED to Sparky outside of the initial interview). And you're right that the Tarin image is frustrating me and is probably just making me jump to conclusions.

But...

>"I'm already at the front door." She says nonchalantly, as if this were perfectly normal.
>"Um... how long have you been waiting outside?"
>"Since last night."
>"And... you never thought of saying something?" You sigh.
>"It seemed rude."

Doesn't inspire much confidence at all, since that's a very, VERY Tarin-like thing for her to do.

True, but they did mention that full bodied cyborg are physically and socially stunted early on in the thread with our song writer.

Frankly I think your overthinking this, besides the initial prospects was that of a competent leader, everything else was speculation by other anons due to fully bodied cyborg

Well I agree with Morgan and Niko of lack of screentime but Sparky is rather new so asking for sudden character interaction is a bit much especially when she was introduced during the whole idol serial killer thing and we were busy with that.
