You are Gertrude Pool, Sophomore Class President and new commander of Lafayette Girls Academy’s revived Tankery Team.

Here it comes.

West meets East.

First world meets Second World.

Rocky Balboa meets Ivan Drago.

Lafayette Girls Academy versus Pravda High School.

Kitten sits behind you as, dressing you up as you sit at the end of the cot. She cranes her arms around you, buttoning up your blouse as you stare at the other end of the tent. Just one of those things. Kitten hums a bit, resting her chin o your shoulder. The chill of the cold weather makes you shiver a bit, and those goosebumps on your arms and legs are either from that or the fact that you’re nervous.

You say, “Feeling confident, Kitten?”

“You’re the Captain of this ship,” says Kitten. “I was confident the moment you asked me to do Tankery with you.”

You smile, leaning back a bit. Kitten giggles, kicking her legs up around you.

Kitten says, “Um… Trudy, listen.” She sighs. “I want to say-“

Nancy pokes her head into the tent, smiling. “We’re all ready when you are, Gertrude!”

Quick question guys, it's been bothering me since last thread.

Do wielded spare tracks and road wheels attached to the armor of tanks actually help in it's protection or was that more for peace of mind?
>>
>>32483296

...I also bring despair.

I ballparked and crunched numbers for upgrades that we can do for our tanks and included some future possible upgrades that we will likely be looking at.

FYI, with our current level of funding, we have 4 weeks left before the finals and without deducting Stu. Co. expenses and possible travelling costs, our tentative future budget is 140k.

Also maybe get more tokens from other loyalty quests.

Also we're going to shore leave perfect time to find sponsorships, and we did ask Lisa and nancy to make us a stance on why tankery is not a bloodsport

You nod. “Give us a minute, Nancy.” Nancy nods, then exits. You lean to the side, smiling at Kitten. “What did you want to say?”

“Oh, uh…” Kitten looks to side, fingering at her hair a bit. “Just… do your best and good luck?”

You quirk your brow. “Is that it?”

“What do you mean that’s it?” Kitten pouts, playfully punching you on the shoulder. “Is my word not important to you?”

You laugh. “No, no! Ha! Just… is that really it?”

“Well…” She sighs, crossing her arms. “Eh, fuck it. It can wait later.” She kisses you on the cheek. “Just go out there and win, alright?”

You tug on her cheek. Nerd. “Yeah, yeah. No need to tell me twice.”

Once you’re fully dressed out, you put on your gloves, zip up your jacket, grab your binoculars and your helmet, and you both walk out. All of your crews are settling together, chatting quietly, some silently praying. Others making last minute adjustments to their tanks.

Samantha walks up to you. “Hey, Gertrude!” She points to your tank, which is now proudly bearing an M2 Browning .50 Caliber machine gun on the turret.

You blink. “Wow. How the heck did you get that through customs?”

“We’re girls,” says Samantha. “The TSA will let anything through customs these days if you’re cute enough.”

“Thanks,” you say. You pat Samantha on the shoulder. She nods, then goes to rejoin her team.

>>
>>32483722
But Charlotte's in the rear, so Farsight or Load Trace and Fire will be better for either detection or to distract the enemy long enough to flee or push them back.

We're taking the high ground, blitz should be for the Ace crew, who is meeting them head on
>>
>>32483728
It's getting so hot in here my ammo's about to cook off!
>>
>>32483651
>>32483764
If we're taking the high ground might as well do Blitz.

I think Farsight or Load Trace and Fire will suit Charlotte more
>>
>>32483764

The Tiger 2 is also taking the long way around.

It's going to be a long range duel as our heavies slowly close the distance so I don't see how an ability that gets them to dive into their ranks will be that useful.

We'll get better usage out of that with us and the lights.

Whats more, yes, we're assaulting the plateau. Which you will notice is very open ground with possible sniping positions for Pravda tanks very close by from their starting ground.

Using lockdown and locking our Elite tank in a middle of a wide open area is asking for us to be shot and killed. Speed and manuvuering will be our defence in the assault.

We're still leaving Luciano to defend the corner and our starting ground right>

Lockdown's good for their tank since the panther can then lay down loads of fire, making them think twice about assaulting the corner or killing a good number of them.
>>
>>32483942
But it will make her tank stop to a halt leaving her a target, she's the flag

If we're leaving them behind in defence, they're not moving much in the first place.

And thats part of the reason why we left a number of veteran tankers under them, so they'll be able to judge the situation and use themselves as shields if they need to.

“How about a song? Something patriotic perhaps?” you say.

Lisa says, “Put something on the radio, Kitten.”

Kitten nods. “Sure, sure.” She adjusts a dial and finds something.

Lisa asks, “Who’s playing this shit?”

“Jimi Hendrix,” says Kitten. “But really, Naval Studies Liberty is blasting it over their comms. I was trying to find something else, but I think this will do.”

You nod. “It will.” You pull up your phone and decide on some last minute cramming.

You’ve managed to work out a flaw in Ace’s tactics at least. She’s not keen on defensive tactics, or slow things at all. Probably why Ooarai beat her, cresting hills is a bit of her Achilles’ hell so to speak.

You arrive at the meet up point. All that’s there are some bleachers with some Australians and other kinds of folks waiting to view the match on the big screen.

You hop off, your Officers backing you up as you go to meet Katyusha and Nonna.

Katyusha smirks. “Well, well, American. Ready to be stomped by the might of our armor?”

Katyusha fumes, puffing her scarlet cheeks out and pouting at you.

“Right,” says the judges. “Let us get a move on.”

You talk to Charlotte over the radio. “Charlotte. Everything alright?”

“Yeah, yeah… just a bit nervous as all,” says Charlotte over the radio. “My damn leg won’t stop shaking.”

You hate it when it does that.

“Just keep your heads, and we’ll make it through it, alright? I’ve got confidence in you guys. You’ve made it this far. Don’t let it be for nothing.”

“Alright, thanks Gertrude. We won’t let you down.”

“Righto,” you say.

You look up to the sky to see the flare. It explodes in the air. You yell. “Alright! Let’s get this thing going!”

You check over the match rosters and the maps again. Pravda has foregone the medium tank approach and gone with a heap of assault guns, mostly the SU variety of the 152 and the 76mm neighborhood. That probably means they’re playing the defensive game, as the 152s are the only things capable of actually putting the King Tiger down reliably at range with the sheer weight of HE.

“Alright, report, anybody see anything?”

“Nothing yet!” says Kate. “This snow is making it a bit difficult on the eyes.”

“Same,” yells Janek. “We’ll take the lead and climb the hill! Barkas will be right behind us and relieve us when it’s clear!”

“Y-Y-Yeah!” says Barkas.

“Are you cold, Barkas?” you ask.

“NO! I’M JUST PEACHY YES I’M FUCKING COLD HOLY SHIT!” yells Barkas.

You arrive at the point where your tanks are to split up. You’re taking Anna, Barkas, Janek, and Barbera up the hill. Kate will take Marina, Samantha, Dales, and Dory down the left.

“This is Keegan, we’re moving into position now.”

Well...

Katyusha has a ton of Casemates. A significant number are capable of taking on the Aces (kinda). They have probably been told to hit the King Tiger at the expense of everything else.

What I'M hoping is they have twitchy trigger fingers and they shoot the Stupa because it looks remotely German.
>>
>>32486171
Reasonable, but you should have faith in Kate's ability to spot an ambush before they spot her. THat's how she pretty much stopped Chi-Ha-Tan cold, after all.
>>
>>32486171
The Stupa and the Tiger II look nothing alike, either by silhouette or I think even size?

Also Aces have Farsight which should allow them to see any hidden tanks in front of them.

We have to worry about securing their flank
>>
>>32486208
If you can see them they can see you. In Chi Ha's case, they would have known that they couldn't pen the Tiger at distance and should hold their fire. I'm not sure the 152mm care because even HE will have effect.

>>32486209
They're both German so I'm hoping the Russian gunners shoot faster than they think.

Oh yes, we need to secure the flank. I'm not saying we all out assault the enemy, I'm saying send the Stupa out as bait.

“Hold up!” Janek yells. “I see tanks! Looks like two SU-76s and a T-34!”

You unbutton and take a look out with your binoculars. Already on the crest of the hill and hulling themselves down into a snowdrift are the SU-76s and a T-34. They depress their guns and start firing on you. Snow flies everywhere, blinding you.

“Agh!” you hold up your arm. “Lisa! Evasive action! Everyone spread out!”

The formation loosens up a bit as the guns suppress you.

“This is Kate! We’ve run into Ivan!” You look down to see Kate’s wing get bombarded by 152mm Howitzers. You bring up your binoculars again. Over ten tanks down there. All five SU-152s behind three T-34/85s, an IS-2, and a KV-2.

Tell the others to get to cover or make some. We still have that snapshot ability right? Of the tanks in front of us, the big problem is the T34 which has the 85mm gun. Blast it off then push through to the top before swinging down and flanking.

Hellcat might want to get behind us though.

> While I'm usually the aggressive guy, are you sure this is a good idea? We're outnumbered and assaulting a defensive position.

We're not outnumbered on the hill, and we really don't have much of a choice if we want to secure the hill and give Kate support.

“Ramirez! Smoke round! Quickly!”

Ramirez takes a smoke round out of the ready rack and shoves it into the breach.

“Nancy! Attack ground ahead of us!” The 76mm fires, splashing up snow and dispersing smoke. The Russian guns go silent as they lose sight of you. “Alright! Engines, full power! CHAAAARGE!”

Your group screams as they rush up the hill, firing away. The smoke covers their advance as they close to point blank range.

> MOBILITY KILL: TIGER II (HENSCHEL) “Hobbes” (ELITE)

“Ah come on!” yells Kate.

The SU-152s renew their barrage. The hill explodes with snow and dirt as you all reverse back into cover on the hill.

You keep an eye out. Where is their flag tank? You turn around and oh shit it’s right there right behind you all it’s aiming at the Panther. Your turret is turned towards the SU-152s and there’s no way you can pivot turn in time (not like the Sherman can pivot turn anyway.)

Any tank that can get a shot into it before it gets away, open fire. Try to hit the tracks if gun cannot pen the armour to hold it in place for the other tanks. Surround the Panther to cover it as it turns to engage the T-34.

“LISA! REVERSE! NOW NOW!” You scream. “CHARLOTTE! MOVE NOW!”

The Panther moves forward as the Sherman starts reversing behind its engine block. The T-34 fires and the shot connects not with the Panther but with the engine block of your Sherman. You all bounce around in the interior bumping into things as smoke fills the compartment.

You hear shots explode and boom outside your Sherman. All of you are quiet as you hear the clatter of tracks, the smashing of snow, and the roar of engines. You can hear the intense chatter over the radio.

By default, Charlotte is in command now.

“That Flag is too fast! We can’t get a shot!” yells Cathy. Her radio is interrupted by a huge blast of static.

I guess their loader was REALLY fucking determined.

This really says something about the morale of the teams, though. They fell apart damn quick when Trude and Kate were taken out. We should work more on individual initiative for when the next time this happens.

In other news, any thoughts on the next officer? We didn't get to see any of Sam's chops, since she got taken out so early, and Anne got taken down during the clusterfuck and she didn't really get a chance to perform.

That thing tore through us like none other. I wanted to Focus Shot on it when we gained control of the hill, but the Button plan was so much better.

The big mistake we made was assuming that all of the routes to the hill were secure, and assuming that the flag tank on its own wasn't a threat. Boy, did it prove us wrong: it pretty much nearly won the match.

You grab Charlotte from behind, laughing. “YOU WON! YOU FUCKING WON!” You laugh as your crews start piling on her as she stands in the Panther’s turret hatch. The other members of Team Last-Chancers cheer in glee.

At lunch, everyone chatters excitedly. You’ve all been sent to a Hotel paid by the ITL to rest and recuperate.

“Right, right!” says Janek. “I know I got taken out like the first five minutes but I want to say something. To Charlotte. For saving this match and clutching it from the jaws of defeat!” She gives a quick salute. “We salute you.”

“Here, here!” everyone says, raising their glasses. Charlotte blushes, glancing around happily as Maya shakes her shoulder, laughing.

You and your crew sit at your own table, everyone eats their fill. That match did last a long while after all. You look to see Katyusha, sitting on Nonna’s shoulders as she walks up to you. Katyusha looks down on you, pouting a bit.

Suspense isn't always necessary: there wasn't any real suspense during the Chi-Ha-Tan fight. It was a legitimate tactical blunder that they were able to take advantage of.

If it was Willaim Adams, maybe but we had the high ground. It was only one tank, and the KV-2 had fired twice which it had not done before.

>>
>>32489937
I second this
>>
>>32489903
At the point we were at we actually had Pravda on the ropes. We were matched in numbers, had elevation advantage, and were forcing them into a withdrawal while we were bringing heavier guns on line. It was only when we sacrificed ourselves and Kate was put down that everything went to hell. I'm more surprised their flag had lasted as long as it did.

>>32489974
If we left the Panther behind, it could have crept behind us while we were focused on the main force and fired onto Charlotte from up on high. Unlikely, but we had completely missed the alternate route and only spotted it because of the use of Intuition, so plausible.

A lot of what I'm saying is conjecture, so take it with as much salt as you want. My point is that I think we did a good job, and while we did make a mistake I don't think German was ever intending for us to blow the match because of it.

You stand up, smiling and offering your hand. “Hell of a match you put on, Katy. Can’t wait for the inevitable rematch.”

Katyusha grunts. “Nonna.” Nonna places Katyusha down on the ground. “I must admit, you did well, for an American.” She shakes your hand. “If we do have a rematch in the future, rest assured that we will not go quietly.”

“Wouldn’t have it any other way,” you say.

Katyusha smiles. “Go on, win the tournament. Pravda will be watching. Katyusha, will be watching!”

With that, Katyusha and Nonna bow to you, and then turn to leave.

Nancy says, “Such grace in defeat!”

Well I just got back from wherever and wow that was almost a disaster.

I think most of what we did here was right, although History team should have been moved forward once we realized almost the entire team was there. I was there for that so I should have said something.

In addition, we didn't need to chase an enemy on the retreat. We had the high ground and from there they have nowhere to hide. Should have consolidated our position than keep attacking.

We wanted to get them while they were still in the open, and we hadn't realized that there was still a way for them to get on the hill. Not having History go tank hunting was a screw up on our part, though.

How so? if we had waited and regrouped it would had given them time to reset their defenses.

Also German, I think next time we have a match, you should send us the google map link to where it is, so we can properly look at it.
>>
>>32490550
I don't think the map was a problem at all. It had everything we needed to make a strategy, and German is using the same map we are so we're not at a tactical disadvantage.
>>
>>32490550
Sure but we would have the high ground. Then we can just laugh at them all day while popping in and out of cover and blatting them one by one. Or alternatively, use our height to find the Flag tank and blat that.

No Schteel! As much as I love looking over the map for every last detail, I also prefer this sort of map detail because I don't sperg out like crazy over the minutiae.

You smile, wrapping your arm around her and rubbing cheeks with her. “Don’t be so modest, Charlotte! It was! We won because of you. Don’t let it go to your head, yeah, but don’t discount it entirely. Don’t be that guy.”

Charlotte blushes a little, smiling. “Eh… thanks, Gertrude.”

Abigail says, “It’s delightful, really, though! We’re moving onto the next match!” A bird flies onto Abigail’s shoulder and roosts. Abigail continues nonchalantly with, “You know, I say that-“

“Abigail,” says Elouise. “There’s a fucking bird on your shoulder.”

Abigail blinks, turning to the bird. “Oh, him. He comes and goes.”

Charlotte says, “Anyway, thanks, Gertrude. Really, we’d like to thank you for the opportunity.”

“Don’t mention it,” you say. “Just keep doing what you’re doing and don’t give up.”

No. But I think we better clarify our argument.

I'm saying rather than pursue our opponents or even shoot them while they retreat, we instead consolidate our position. Fix the Tiger 2, bring everyone up onto the hill including the Stug then use our position up there to win. Even if they fortify down, we still have the high ground and we'll win anyway even if it becomes a war of attrition.

Everyone cheers, clapping. “Yeah, yeah. Settle, settle. We need to address a couple of things though. First and foremost, we need to elect a new officer. I’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts.”

Samantha raises her hand. “I’d like to nominate myself!”

Samantha whistles. “Tough crowd.”

Fairless says, “I’ll support Samantha I suppose. She’s been here longer than most of us and I do think she’d make a fine officer.”

Cathy nods. “Same! I’ll vouch for her.”

“Anyone else?” you ask.

Charlotte says, “I’ll support Cathy being an Officer.”

“Oh, stop it you,” says Cathy, giggling.

Samantha says, “Actually. If not me, then totally Cathy.” Everyone nods, agreeing with that.

“Guys, please,” says Cathy. “I uh…”

“All in favor of Cathy?” Janek raises her hand, as does most of the Tankery team. The only one who doesn’t is Cathy herself.

Cathy chuckles nervously. “Oh, wow. Didn’t realize I was that popular, um…”

You nod. “Cathy, welcome aboard!

Everyone nods, clapping in approval.

Cathy smiles nervously. She says, “I won’t let you down!”

With that, everyone gets to packing for the return trip back to LGA. Nancy has already arranged for the tanks to be sent ahead of you back to LGA as well.

Then you remember, it’s Thanksgiving this week. Thursday or Friday. You’ll be seeing the same family again. That’ll be something, finally. Thanksgiving Break the whole week. You pack your things in your bag in the hotel room with your crew.

Fairless knocks on the door. “Hey, Gertrude.”

“What about you?”

“Well, I’ll stick around, but I’ll probably head back up to Pennsylvania for a day or two,” says Fairless. “Visit the family again, see my cousin too.”

You nod. “Cool. Are they nice people?”

“The nicest, bless their hearts,” says Fairless. “A little behind the times, but that’s Georgia for you.”

“… I thought you said-“

“They moved up to Pennsylvania, reverse carpet-baggers if you will,” says Fairless. “But anyway, hope you have yourself a nice Thanksgiving, yeah?”

You nod. “I will,” you say.

Fairless smiles, subtly but it’s there, then she leaves you to finish packing. All the members of your crew are busy lazing about.

“Stop it you!” you flick her on the forehead. “Anyway, did you have something to say to me?”

“Huh?” Kitten blinks.

“You wanted to say something to me before the match, didn’t you?” you say.

“Oh.” Kitten blushes a bit, laughing. “Ahaha… no. No I didn’t.”

I do wonder who our potential final teams could be. We could ask the O's + Pinkerton if they're interested, and we could ask...

... Uh... anyone but the Anime club, I suppose.

You say, “You did, lying bitch cunt don’t lie to me fucking fuck.” Kitten laughs a bit as you disembark from the bus and head into the airport. “Come on, Kitten. I’m getting this sense of déjà vu. You do this quite a bit you know?”

“Yeah, I know,” says Kitten.

“Well, that makes it worse,” you say bluntly as you pass through customs.

Kitten stops you as you stand out of the gates. You motion for the rest of the crew to go in without you. They do, a bit curious.

Kitten looks down at the ground. “Look, I-… I-“ She balls her hands into fists, looking you straight in the eye. “I-…”

You nod. “You…”

“I…” She puffs her cheeks out, obviously trying to get it out. “Look, I’m sorry, I must sound really selfish. But- I mean…” She places her hand on your arm, suddenly finding the ground more interesting. “Just-… I-…”

You say, “Kitten. Just say it. Even if you can’t find good words for it.”

Kitten says, “I don’t want you to go.”

>>
>>32492949

You tilt your head. “Pardon?”

“I-… I don’t want you to just-…” Kitten buries her face into her hand. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I sound so fucking selfish right now.”

You say, “No, no. Just… what?”

Kitten says, “Well, all this business with Tankery and other things. All of it. I just worry about you and me and what’s going on in your future. I mean, you! Holy shit, you! Trudy! I mean- You’re a star student. We just made it to the semi-finals of some great tournament! I mean, think about it. Even if you know what happens, Academyships would be scrambling to snatch you up. Not to mention scholarships and job opportunities.”

She places her hands in her pockets. “And… look at me. I’m just your Radio guy. I don’t even do anything all that important.”

You shake your head. “Nonsense, Kitten.” You tousle her hair a bit, smiling a little. “Honestly.”

“Gertrude, just…” Kitten looks away. “I’m sorry. I’m so selfish, I sound like a total bitch right now. I just- I- I don’t. I mean, you and Bernadette and me and I and you and this and that and I‘ve completely lost control of what I’m saying-”

Laugh, just laugh because we kind suck with our studies.

She worries to much besides we love LGA and wouldn't have worked so hard during the student council incident if we hadn'.

As for job opportunities and scholarships, we still have awhile before thinking on that and they haven't invited her yet, so don't worry about it

You immediately take her in the biggest hug you can muster, surprising her. “Trudy-“

“Ssshhhh…” you say. “It’ll be okay.”

“Trudy…” Kitten buries her face in your shoulder.

“Listen, that’s all in the future,” you say. “We gotta worry about the now, alright? If they want me, maybe I’ll say they’ll have to take you too.” You laugh a little. “But hey, what makes you think I’ll get scholarships, I still suck at French.”

Kitten giggles a bit, you can feel some tears on your shoulder. “Ah… fuck you, you’re better than that.”

“You worry too much,” you say. You turn her around and start marching with her into the plane. “Come on, tough guy. Tell you something, don’t worry about it. It won’t be for some time until we have to worry about college and careers.”

“I hope so,” says Kitten.

You nod. “We’re sixteen. We’re young, we’re full of life!” You smile. “I know so.”

It's not that hard? Mentioning Fairless in a 'pfft, there's no way she'd get between us' way isn't bad at all, though extraneous. The alternate reading of that sentence would, however, have been bad. I.E. 'so how about that threesome huh?'.

Something to think about for next time, we've got one (maybe two) team that reached Elite, should we spend the cash on their tank now or wait?

It was fun and we won, granted we could have cut back on the CP spending but I had full confidence we would have won.
>>
>>32493283
It was adorable, anon.
>>
>>32493340
I think we should wait, the sewing club got elite didn't they?

I'd rather give them a new tank instead of Elite'ing the S35 which would be a fucking waste, hell we could give them a T-34/57 to Elite but for the love of fuck, don't Elite the S35
>>
>>32493386

Good for you then.

It was fucking terrifying.
>>
>>32487162
Poor Anchovy.
>>
>>32493420
I believe Excel anon made a summary of costs a while back up the thread.

The basic gist of it was, 'we cannot afford all this shit'.
>>
>>32493386
I turned up late and missed the match but was fucking amazed that you never once used intuition...
>>
>>32493435
We used it twice. It saved our asses the second time.
>>
>>32493420
We can't afford a new tank, besides we're upgunning the S35 with a six pounder, we're good.
>>
>>32493434
I understand that, and I know we've got more on our list to buy than we have money for.

But fuck me if we Elite the shitty S35, get them a decent tank the Elite won't be a waste of money and effort on.
>>
>>32493420

Ha.

Hahah.

I'm sorry but we need to start halting purchases.

----

In other news, I've come up with a 'bare essentials' table and the price tag is shit too.
>>
>>32493425
German tends to go a bit dramatic, we had four tanks against one no matter how you slice it, it will be overwhelmed.

That being said it was effective suspense
>>
>>32493470
would you shut the fuck up we are up-gunning it and then we are going to elite it so stop
>>
>>32493484
Add two more purchases of whatever you like, we have the girl scouts.
>>
>>32493470
then we lose 20 xp on familiarizing with the tank, and we lose 5cp for reversing morale drop.

We finally have things more or less in order. and we have a good alternative now.

>>
>>32493505

With the cost of the Type Slav, upgunning the S-35 should drop to a non-critical.

It's performed ok, it will continue to perform ok. Hell, they're one of our top scorers today.

I'd say we spend the money, elite their tank and not touch it anymore.
>>
>>32493565
the type slav is the up gunning
>>
>>32493283
>http://pastebin.com/vVNcFRuK

Pleasantly cute.
>>
>>32493522

I'm expecting to have to continue to add stuff to it and I'm totally expecting to have use the tokens. I'd just like to show a clean budget form before we decide which line items to negate for maximum effect.

Like the T-34/85 1944.
>>
>>32493484
>In other news, I've come up with a 'bare essentials' table and the price tag is shit too.
Indeed it is.

>>32493522
Thats essentially an entire new tank for free if we find something worthy of spending those tokens on.

How about we start trawling for more sponsors, we just had a nail-biter of a match, we're the new team, the underdog and we're knocking out the big names.

All of that means a lot of people are watching us, which means a LOT of advertising opportunities for companies willing to splurge on a sponsorship or two for us.

We should look at getting big defense companies interested in sponsoring us, groups like GD/GE and maybe even Raytheon, I'm sure some of their tech goes into the shells and computers our tanks use.
