Welcome to Academy City. The time is afternoon, the weather is drowsy and the date is August 16.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error and you are tired. You didn’t have much sleep last night. Sparky wasn’t feeling good last night, probably related to Level 6 Shift, so you felt the need to trade sleep with trying to cheer her up. You also pledged some help to her cause she as well, regardless of whatever came. It wasn’t a legally binding contract mind but you liked to think yourself a man of your word. It was also why you were now suffering from sleep deprivation. To make matters worse you were aching all over from that fight in the arcade earlier.

Some punk had been harassing an acquaintance of yours, a certain Toshino Kyouko, and she, in a fit of petty vengeance most likely, had directed them at you. In Kaoru’s own words, “your attitude isn’t conductive to peaceful conflict resolution.” She wasn’t wrong, given the fresh cut on the left side of your forehead. It was shallow but it throbbed as the rest of your body did. Your doctor had said you should take thing easy but here you were, picking fights and getting hurt again. At least you were walking away from this one.

“Are you sure you’ll be alright?” Kaoru asked.

Oh right, you were also patrolling the streets of the seventh with her because Aneue had punished you for sleeping, chastely, with Asuka. Still you were damn tired and Kaoru was kind enough to let you go earlier if it meant some sleep.

“Yeah, I’ll tough it out,” you replied, “I might need some coffee though.”

“As you say then, let us at least take a break.”

Kaoru was still mindful of your lethargy and led you to a nearby café acquiring some masala chai for herself and a piping hot black brew for you. It was disgustingly bitter but it did inject some much needed wakefulness if nothing else. That didn’t mean you were operating at 100% but it was better than collapsing.

“I am most curious,” Kaoru started, “What kind of activity would have kept you up so late last night?”

“Huh? Oh nothing, was just wandering the streets, met Toshino, met Sparky, talked a bit with both and I woke up on a bench this morning,” you replied.

“I see,” she sipped her drink, “While I have been recently been acquainted with Toshino-san, may I know who Sparky is?”

“Sparky’s just Sparky,” you answered clearly struggling, “I mean she’s an electromaster and the name just kinda stuck.”

“Would this electromaster be Misaka Mikoto by any chance?”

“Yeah, I think that’s her name.”

“The Tokiwadai Dorm Supervisor’s request aside, I would like to enquire further on the topic of Toshino-san,” she put her drink down, “She called you a loan shark if I recall.”

“Oh, she just owes me a bit of a money is all, thinks that meeting me once a day qualifies me as loan shark,” you brushed it off.

“I can imagine that. However you don’t see anything odd or off with her lately do you?”

“If you meant that spear or blue aura she has then yes, other than that, no, not really.”

“I see so she is related to my world,” Kaoru concluded.

She quickly gulped down her drink at that and got up.

“While I am tempted to investigate her, there is also the matter related to Misaka-san that needs to be addressed,” she started, “Who do you think we should pursue first?”

We kind of sort of don't want her to look into her. You know due to the entire "Paying for a illegal pit fight that she knows about."

Before you gave your answer you realised that you basically gave out free answers to Kaoru without really meaning to. She took advantage of your sleepiness to sneak in a few questions that you would have answered vaguely. Then again Kaoru was a friend so there was probably nothing wrong with that. Not to mention that the blue mana aura was definitely related to magic and Kaoru was the only person you knew who could help, being a magician and all. You’d just have to be more careful next time around someone else, probably letting Kaoru do the talking and all that.

“I think we should look for Sparky first,” you suggested, “Aneue will have my hide if I don’t.”

She probably wouldn’t but why take that chance?

“Besides Toshino isn’t really going anywhere,” you continued, “I gave her a week so we’ll see each other again eventually.”

“Very well, I trust that she will not be too cooperative after this morning anyway,” Kaoru said, “I shall ask Uiharu to make some discreet inquiries.”

It would take a few minutes so in the mean time you and Kaoru strolled about the district, often stopping to help random a passerby for some reason or another. There wasn’t much in the way of fighting either. By the time lunch rolled around Uiharu had found your missing electromaster. She was spotted acquiring some clothes with cash at one of the malls, not there was anything wrong with clothes shopping you thought. Kaoru however thought otherwise as the both of you legged it as fast as you could. She had apparently worn the clothes out the store, foregoing her uniform altogether. Strange, you’ve never actually seen Asuka in her casual clothing before, or any Lady of Tokiwadai for that matter. Kaoru chimed in with a citation of one of Tokiwadai’s rules saying that the students must be in uniform at all times when not in the privacy of their own dorm rooms.

The time is now lunch, the weather is sunny, and the date remains unchanged.

Now that you thought about it. Paying with cash didn’t leave much of a trail as opposed to a debit card or through mobile. If you were right paranoid you’d use money cards, but it didn’t look like Sparky had any. She probably gave the last of them to you. Now you were right curious as to what she was up to and so was Kaoru. Tucking her Judgement armband away, Kaoru led the way as the both of you tried to tail as discreetly as possible. You kept a respectable distance whilst you faked harmless chatter with Kaoru.

If Sparky was wise to your scheme, she wasn’t showing it, or even confronting you about it. She was however giving you the right roundabout though, wandering through different parts of the city and often climbing buildings with her Ability for better vantage points. You weren’t able to follow her there but at least Uiharu had her on cameras. You’re not quite sure whether this kind of surveillance on her was a gross breach of privacy or not but it was either her or Aneue, the latter won every single time.

Academy City was also littered with phone booths that often doubled as public internet access terminals. It was here that Sparky seemed to pull out a sheaf of papers before jacking her handheld computer in to and focusing all her attention to the screen. Such was her concentration that you swore she was sweating in there. Uiharu was having trouble finding out what she was up to however given the kind of load the connection was under.

You knocked on the glass of her booth. Sparky didn’t react. You knocked harder and she gave a start as her Ability inadvertently roasted the electronics, spewing smoke and sparks. She practically jumped out, coughing through the smoke as security robots approached. Kaoru waved them off as you helped Sparky up.

“Torikov, what’d you do that for?” she asked.

“Aneue, that is, your Dorm Supervisor told me to come find you,” you answered.

“Crap, she found out didn’t she?” you nodded, “Right well it was going to happen sooner or later. Was that all?”

“No, may I enquire as to what you were doing Misaka-san?” Kaoru interjected.

A small shake of your head and Sparky caught the message though Kaoru did not miss the gesture.

“Just some data-mining, research for my summer project and all that,” she half-lied to the Judgement officer.

“That doesn’t mean you had to break one of your school rules to do so,” Kaoru sighed.

“Hahaha, my bad, I don’t want to admit it but it feels like I’m cheating using my ability like this so I guess I don’t want to be in uniform when I do.”

If Kaoru wanted to say something more she was interrupted with a call from Uiharu. A fire had broken out somewhere else in the district and Judgement officers were being called to manage civilians.

“I apologise but I am needed elsewhere, Torikov-san can you please ensure Misaka-san makes it back to her dormitories?” she asked.

“Sure thing,” you gave her a thumbs-up.

With Kaoru gone, Sparky bopped you on the head with the hat.

“Damn you, I was almost done with my hacks,” she complained, “Now I’m going to have to hit the last six on foot. Thanks a lot.”

“Oh,” the dots connected, “oops.”

“Yeah, oops,” she grabbed you by the hand, “Right I need to find a place to change and then we’ll go back.”

The time is now mid-afternoon, the weather is still sunny, and the date remains unchanged.

“Look, I’ll make it up to you,” you suddenly said, “How does lunch sound?”

Both you and Sparky’s stomach gurgled in agreement.

“Yeah sounds good,” she admitted sheepishly.

“It’s on me,” you added.

You quickly lead her to a familiar coffee house. The both of you were hungry so you weren’t paying much attention to what you ordered. You did both however opt for the same soft drink.

“Man you look terrible Torikov,” she exaggeratedly sniffed the air to make her point.

“That’s what sleeping on a bench all night and not showering does,” you shrugged.

“You stayed out all night?”

“Well I was had to report to Aneue in the morning and she made me patrol with Kaoru,” you yawned despite yourself, “I didn’t have time to go home for a shower just yet.”

“Whoa that’s rough,” she commiserated with you, “You really didn’t have to buy me lunch.”

“Yeah, you’re right,” you seemingly agreed, “Lunch does seem a bit too little for ruining your thing. How about I helped you clean up?”

“What?”

“I mean you were going to hit up the what, last six facilities? I’m offering to help you,” you said simply.

“You,” she was incredulous, “Do you know what you’re saying?”

“Eh, wouldn’t be the first time I broke in to a lab,” you brushed it off.

“I can do all of that on my own,” she huffed.

“I can’t,” you said, “That’s why I have friends, friends who can help me. I can be that friend that’ll help you, but only if you let me. Besides I’m already involved, looking up all that stuff for you.”

That last bit was a lie but she didn’t need to know that.

“Besides, it looked like Nunotaba was going to do something so I’m probably going to help you indirectly anyway.”

“Fine,” she gave up, “But I’ll call you when I really need you.”

“Fair enough.”

The time is now before dawn, the weather is cool, and the date is now August 17.

It was expected that you’d wake up so early after going to sleep so early. Well, at least you felt better rested and your aches had gone down. Lazily flipping the lights with your Ability, you almost fell out of bed when you noticed a small cupcake with a postcard stuck in it. Picking it up you cleared your eyes and read the note.

“Call me when you have time,
“Bisous,
“Toulour
“P.S. You are within our grasp XDXD”

Looks like THIEF had come to collect on that favour you owed them for the information of Project Radio Noise and Level 6 Shift. Well you could call Toulour now, but then you’d have to meet up with him later. That is if you were feeling lazy and wanted to just stay at home today. Your room was a general mess at the moment. Papers and books lay strewn about and you should probably clean out your gun again. Then again, if you went out jogging and generally getting back in to shape you could probably find a payphone on the way somewhere. To your knowledge you didn’t quite have anything to do today. Aneue hadn’t bugged you over the phone either so you were free, that or she was still asleep.

You decided it was a bit early for some exercise. The aching was still annoying so you’d let it settle down some before doing something strenuous. Stepping over the pieces of paper lying about the floor, you floated the cupcake in to the fridge before settling down to finally finish NEWTON.

The applied physics textbook was mostly done at that point and you were simply going through some of the older sections you weren’t quite sure about. You also broke out some paper and pencils to try your hand at the mathematics. Most of your answers were wrong but you shrugged, it wasn’t exactly a thing that came naturally to you and it looked like it was actually university level. Still you think you had a good handle on physics now. All that was left was to experiment with your Ability a bit then you were sure you’d finally be classified as Level 3 come the next System Scan. Moving up meant a bigger benefits, of which included the pay. You’d also be considered one of the elite then.

By the time you had finished with the book you’d noticed that the sun had come up. You decided to have breakfast outside. You could even get some exercise done while you were at it. That was how you spent your morning, working to improve yourself, mentally and physically.

The time is now afternoon, the weather is warm, and the date remains unchanged.

Now that you were outside you could probably use a payphone to see what Toulour wanted. There was also the matter regarding Toshino that Kaoru seemed to want to square away but it couldn’t be that important right? Besides you had work hours to complete and summer crept ever so closer to a close.

It was time to see what Toulour had for you. You did wonder why he chose payphones over disposable cell phones though.

“Afternoon I hope you’re free today,” Toulour greeted.

“I got the note, what did you want?”

“Well we didn’t exactly find a job for as you were found for a job,” he shuffled some papers in the background, “It seems our mutual acquaintance Nunotaba had something lined up and she specifically asked for you. Seeing as you already worked together it I didn’t see a reason to refuse so here we are. Anyway, consider this an official job, THIEF-sanctioned, pope-blessed and all that sort of business. Our rules apply and you know you can’t refuse right?”

“Right.”

Well you were on the money when you told Sparky that Nunotaba was lining up to do something about the Level 6 Shift and this looked like it was it. Either that or she was going to direct a live-action adaptation of Fowl Gods.

“So what are my instructions? Assets?” you asked.

“Just mosey on over to her place to get more info, she’ll handle payment and acquisition of whatever assets you may need from us. My advice for this job? She’s being real ambitious so try and keep things simple eh? I think that’s it for now, so if you have any questions don’t hesitate to give me a call and ask.”

“I don’t have to give you a cut or anything right?”

“Oh no, she already paid the commission fee. What you make for yourself you keep,” he cheerfully answered, “Any more questions?”

“No, nothing really, though I can’t really imagine you getting supplies in place so fast though.”

“You worry about your job and I’ll worry about mine alright?” Toulour hung up.

Your next order of business, before heading over to Nunotaba’s place was to call up your crew to meet up there. The only one who wouldn’t know where that was would be Asuka and thus you had an excuse to steal her away from the clutches of Aneue. Of course that was the plan. Instead she didn’t pick up her phone, several times. You were hoping that she hadn’t found another fighting ring to spend her time in so you were forced to actually ask her dorm supervisor. It was strange that she was apparently waiting for you at the gate. Hopefully nothing bad was going to happen.

“Torikov, right on time,” she exclaimed and grabbed you.

She was leading you to her office.

“Wait is this about Asuka?” you were confused.

“That and more,” her smile was quite scary, “I always thought that corporal punishment wasn’t very effective.”

“Not sure where you’re going with this Aneue,” you said.

“Oh you shall see,” Aneue’s grin widened, “I’ve always wanted to try out new methods of discipline and I think this one will be quite effective.”

The door to her office opened slowly. In it were two girls, one you recognised as Sparky and the other was Asuka, your girlfriend. You weren’t sure how cleaning her office was any in way shape or form a rigorous punishment. Maybe they got off light though you had to admit, the outfits they were sporting were quite, er, unique.

“K-K-K-Kyril,” Sparky seemed embarrassed.

Asuka however turned with a start and ordered,

“I demand you choke yourself.”

Your last thought before her demands were met was that, Asuka looked even cute when she was embarrassed and even cuter in that maid uniform.

However at this stage of writing you weren’t going to give up now, you needed new material, and fast. This insatiable, rotten lust must be brought to heel, if only for a little while. Looking back at your previous works only made you see the flaws and imperfections in them, flaws that you were here to correct. Your two leads were,

The sightings of an upstanding gentleman would serve as a basis for your story. Surely this would be in your best interests. You must continue your unholy work and this was your chosen subject. Various agents, planted in both places high and low worked tirelessly to feed your rotten machine. Thus when you decided to investigate you had turned up far more than you needed. An upstanding gentleman with long hair, sporting a red coat and a cream scarf, was smoking a cigar in Kyril’s presence. Speculation was that the man was in his late thirties and was a Lord from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. That the two were potential in-laws was ignored. You’d rather work another angle, the corruption angle. After all, what would a man with the means at his disposal do when he needed a way out, a release for his urges so to speak?

Why he would take a poor, unnamed, unimportant orphan off the street of course. It was an act of charity, an act of kindness, to feed him, to clothe him, to teach him. Oh yes did the Lord teach. There were many lessons to be covered, each punctuated with a pointed test. They would be painful, humiliating even, but each served to reinforce the lesson. Obedience in all things, etiquette concerning your superiors and the ever so favoured, sport that men of the Lord’s station often enjoyed. Thrust in such a situation, you could see it going only one of two ways.

Can't have darkness all the time. There needs to be a contrast.

You have never read the average Yaoi. Dear god. You don't want to either.

Well you’ve already bucked the trend with a character being hailed as the new “Hannibal Lector” of the genre. There was only other way to go here, after all the pain and suffering that poor Tori-kun had suffered. However his saviour remained a mystery to you. How were you going to draw something that you could not envision? Oh what’s this, a PM from Whiteknight247? Pictures of an even more elderly gentleman with grey hair and a dashing suit, why yes you think that was the perfect image for his saviour. Thank you very much Whiteknight247-san.

You could see it, a frantic, desperate escape over the moors of Yorkshire, a long way from the dark castle where he spent his days. Tori-kun would collapse only to be rescued by this elderly gentleman on his hunting trip. In gratitude Tori-kun would thank him in the only way he knew how. It would be awkward at first, the very traditional gentleman uncomfortable with such acts. But the sincerity, the desire to please and soon, yes very soon he would indulge. Yes such a loving and tender act between two whose ages vastly differed. Oh what a delight it was. But you had to end it. There must be an ending to this whole sordid trip to old Blighty.

In the end you could not escape the trappings of your genre. No, as your genre was served for rotten ladies with penchant for DARKNESS, you had to play to the audience. Too much of a dalliance could prove disastrous and you were determined to make this volume the final one, remembered in all its glory. Everyone loved a trilogy anyway. Thus it was appropriate that everything should end in tears.

Well for Tori-kun’s case it would be tears of joy, of having found another whom he could trust, whom he could love. His previous life forgotten and it is in that void that you were going to milk tears for all it was worth. It was going to set the stage for the finale. Kami-kun would wallow in depression and seek solace in Sagara. It would be perfect, watching as they pretended the other were Tori-kun whilst both knowing that it was naught but a lie. It drove them to seek answers in places best left undisturbed. Thus came the return of Kyousuke, Kyou in short, the violence which he would inflict would be permanent. Tadakuni was never really a popular character in the first place so you thought it was better to leave him out. Nakazawa however had potential and perhaps the cruellest fate of all. He would pretend to fall in love win a woman just to drown out his sorrow. His marriage would be a sham and his life unfulfilling and until the day he would wonder, where or where did his Tori-kun go?

Now, that you had your manga squared away, the last of your affairs had been set in order. It was time for you yourself to face the fire, to atone and to set the Sisters free. But first, you needed some help, help that went by the name of Tori-kun.

Long con. It will take several days to plan and execute. Are you crazy enough to dive into the DARKNESS? When writefag and /tg/ meet, the story begins.
I’ll stick around for a bit. Don’t feel like going to the gamesday again.
