You’re walking out of the last class for the day when Rowan gets a text message from Cassandra saying something came up at work and that she won’t be able to pick you guys up from school until an hour from now.

You stand by Rowan as she goes through a moment of indecision. “Should we just wait here then?”

“Why are you asking me?” you say.

“Well I don’t know. I usually rollerblade to school and back.”

You laugh at her naiveté. “There’s more than one way to get around town,” you say.

Rowan cracks the knuckles on her good hand. “What do you suggest, then?”

While you would like to go wander around the town and see what there is to do, you know it wouldn’t be very fun dragging Rowan around in a foot brace and a cast.

>You’ve got money. There’s a bus. Let’s go.
>You’ve got a zillion friends. Cash in some of your pity tokens and filch a ride off one of them.
>I was just making a point. I’m fine waiting around here.

I wish I could into paint so I could add a pair of geeky glasses to that. Even if Sierra does use contacts.
>>
>>32281621

“You’re acting like public transportation isn’t a thing,” you say, leading the way to the front of the school.

“I usually don’t take the bus unless I’m planning a trip,” says Rowan, following after you. “I don’t know which ones go where.”

“Well then you ask somebody, duh,” you tell her. “Say, where’s Isaac? Seems like he’d be all over picking up his cripple daughter from school.”

“Dad must be busy. He does more than fight demons, you know. Well I guess you don’t know, but he does a whole lot of stuff besides staking vampires.”

You stop in your tracks and look at her for a second. “Does he actually stake vampires?”

Rowan rolls her eyes, and pushes you to continue walking. You’re nearly at the exit when you see some people you don’t like. Beatrice and a couple of her soccer goons are hanging out by the front doors.
>>
>>32281656
Rowan swears, and pulls you back around the corner before they notice your approach. “Dammit, Trixy is the last person I want to see today,” she says, scowling. She peeks out from behind the corner. “What are they doing? Ugh, maybe it’s an ambush. It wouldn’t be the first time.”

You can’t help but chuckle at Rowan’s silly problems. She can beat somebody half to death a baton, but a couple of soccer nerds bully her at school?

>Fine, whatever. Let’s find a different way out.
>Let’s just walk by. They can’t do anything to you, you’re in a fucking school.
>You know what? It’s time you stood up for yourself. Go over there and tell them they can go screw themselves.

We're Gavrill without the stitches.
>>
A lot of different solutions go through your mind to the current issue, but you keep coming back to the fact that nobody in real life is actually afraid of soccer players. We’re walking out the front door,” you say.

Rowan begins to protest. “But – “

“But shut up,” you say. “We’re walking by. They can’t do anything. You could throw any of them through the wall. And besides, we’re in a fucking highschool, not on the street, they couldn’t make anything happen even if they wanted to.” This situation makes you indignant. (+2 Stress: 9/100)

You lead the way, walking with Rowan toward the door.

“Look who it is,” one of them says, tapping Beatrice on the shoulder. She looks over and smiles at the sight of Rowan. There are four of them total. They start fanning out before you.

“Just keep walking,” you growl to Rowan.

“Hi Rowan,” says Beatrice, giving a bright smile. “I heard about what happened with your arm – sorry to hear it. Just wanted to wish you well.”

However, she is in your way when she says this. You kind of take the lead, and, when you get to the point where the team captain expects you to stop, you keep going as if she’s not there, and kind of push by her as if you haven’t acknowledged her presence. Beatrice doesn’t make it easy, though. She stands pretty firmly rooted in a ploy to get you to stop, but you push her a lot harder than she was expecting and get her off balance.
>>
>>32282019

You and Rowan take advantage of the gap in their line and walk by toward the exit. You feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end – they couldn’t have taken that well. (+2 Stress: 11/100)

“Excuse me,” says Beatrice, her mock politeness masking simmering anger. “I don’t think we’ve been properly introduced.” You hear her walk up behind you – a hand grabs your arm and spins you around, putting you face to face with Beatrice. She wears an evil smile. “I’m Beatrice. What’s your name?” She doesn’t release her vice grip on your arm.

You clench your teeth. You don’t like her hand on you. (+7 Stress: 18/100)

Rowan is immediately right behind you. “Don’t touch her,” she says forcefully.

“I’m sure your friend can speak for herself,” says Trixy, tightening her grip on you. (+2 Stress: 20/100)

You’ve been watching the situation unfold this whole time as if you were some kind of very angry spectator. Beatrice’s whole attitude and appearance makes you mad. Her cocky smile, her long blonde hair carefully pulled back into a pony tail, her powerful facial structure. The skinny jeans and expensive shirt. You don’t like any of it, but what gets you the most is the shimmering light of mirth in her dark eyes.

When Beatrice tightens her grip, your body moves almost without you thinking about it.

You jerk your seized arm backwards, yanking Beatrice toward you and putting her off balance. You have a moment to delight in the girl’s expression of utter shock before you bring over your other hand, knock Beatrice’s hand off of you with a judicial application of force, grab her by the wrist, and pull back, pulling her across herself and spinning her about so that her back is to you. You let go of her then put all your weight into a shove, right in the small of her back.

The force takes Beatrice almost off her feet and throws her onto the ground, flat on her stomach. She sprawls out for a second, and awkwardly rolls over on to her back as her goons rush to her aid. Her fall took the wind out of her, and she coughs in an attempt to draw more breath.

“Enough said,” you say, looking down at her pathetic state. You turn to Rowan and jerk your head toward the door. “Let’s go.”

You walk off some distance.
>>
>>32283230

“I can’t believe she grabbed you like that,” says Rowan, anger in her voice as you go through the doors. “We should report her or something.”

“I don’t know. I was the one that knocked her on her ass, and she’s got more character references than I do.”

Your acute hearing picks up a single word spat out by Beatrice before you leave. “Bitch.”

“Sounds like somebody ain’t happy,” you say, sniggering to yourself. (-4 Stress: 14/100)

You make your way to the bus stop. There’s a mob of students present, and asking around it isn’t too difficult to find the number you need to take to get back to Rowan’s house. While you wait, you can’t help shaking the feeling that somebody’s watching you. It puts you on edge, but you can’t figure out where it’s coming from. (+1 Stress: 15/100)

Thankfully, your number comes without too much wait, and you and Rowan get on along with a herd of students. A guys clear out of a pair of seats for you and Rowan. Having a handicapped companion does have its benefits, you suppose.

Something catches your eye as you sit down by the window. A guy walking a whole bunch of dogs right by the bus stop. The way he moves is familiar. Now you remember, it’s the same guy you saw the night you killed the Stygian, when you were bumbling around practically blind looking for that dead guy’s car. But wasn’t that in a completely different part of town?

>Pull yo hood up, Sierra.
>>
You tap Rowan on the shoulder and point out the window. “You ever seen that guy before?” you ask.

Rowan leans over to look out the window. “A couple times, why?”

Oh. Maybe he does just get around. “I don’t know. I saw him a couple days ago, he was there when I… uh. Woke up,” you say, mindful of the numerous students packed onboard. “It was kind of far away from here. It’s weird to see him again.”

The bus lurches into motion.

“So?” Rowan asks.

“Well I got this weird feeling today that somebody was watching me, and then just a couple minutes ago, and then he shows up.”

“You think he’s following you?” Rowan asks, completely serious.

“Maybe?” you say. “You know what, never mind. Maybe I’m just stressed out or something.”

Rowan seems okay dropping the subject. You pull your hood up, somehow feeling less conspicuous that way. It's all psychological. (-2 Stress: 13/100) The bus steadily empties out the further from the school you get. Twenty minutes or so later, you turn onto the right street and start coming up on your stop. If you weren’t already paranoid and keeping an eye out for anything else weird, you would have easily missed it. You’re a half block away from the stop when you see it.
>>
>>32283625
Coming up on a small intersecting street, you see dog walker with all of his dogs walking up a storm toward the road you’re on. Same dogs. Same knee-cut jeans. Same white tank top. Same mullet and the same gut. While the bus route going to Rowan’s house is circuitous, it’s not that meandering. (+5 Stress: 18/100)

“Hey, Ro,” you say, keeping your tone even.

“Yes?”

“How far is your house from the stop?”

“About a ten minute walk. Why?”

>Your house has like, a magic electric fence around it, right?

Because she's a bitter ex girlfriend. Sierra's clearly hetero, but I'm betting Rowan is maximum /u/.

But honestly? She sees Rowan as her meal ticket. She wanted to ride Rowan's athleticism to a full-ride sports scholarship. From her selfish, entitled perspective, Rowan is screwing her out of tens of thousands of dollars worth of scholarships for no good reason.

In short, she thinks Rowan's a heartless bitch who's fucking her over for literally no good reason, and is just constantly trying to make up (shittily) and get her back on the team.

“Cause either Mr. Dogwalker coincidentally walked his dogs here at twenty miles an hour,” you say, “or he’s following us – walking dogs at twenty fucking miles an hour. He was back on that last street.”

Rowan computes this new bit of information. “This isn’t good,” says Rowan, rubbernecking to try and peer out the window behind the bus. She pulled out her cellphone and hit a button. “I’m calling dad.”

You take a deep breath. “Okay, well you call your dad, and be ready to book it when we get off,” you say, preemptively getting your arms through your backpack.

You hear Rowan begin explaining the situation to Isaac when the bus pulls over and the doors pop open. You and Ro scramble out, ahead of everyone else. Ro points you in the right direction, and you both hustle off. Ro has an okay hustle even with her gimp leg, but you doubt she would be able to do any real running.

You’re in a pretty upscale residential area, with multi-storied apartment buildings on either side of the street. There are little side streets that split off from the main one, as well as an occasional shadowy alley. There are a few people in sight, as it’s a nice day outside – cool and sunny – but pedestrians are few and far between. This kind of stuff isn't supposed to happen in daylight.
>>
>>32287777
HE LIVES
>>
>>32287777

“We just got off the bus and we’re going home,” Ro says, still on the phone. You hear Isaac’s voice from the other end. “Here’s Sierra.” She hands the phone over to you.

“So that’s Rowan’s guardian angel or something, right?” you ask, pressing the phone to your head so you can hear over the sound of your footfalls.

“No,” says Isaac, speaking quickly. “Whatever you do, don’t let him catch up to you, and don’t try to fight him. Neither of you are in any condition to try it – I think they’re trying to get at you while you’re weak. If you can get to the house, you’ll be safe. I’m coming as fast as I can, keep moving.” He hangs up.

You look behind you. The dog jogger guy looks like he’s pretty far off, but he’s coming in your direction with four medium sized dogs. You don’t like the look of that one bit. (+3 Stress: 16/100)

>What do you do?
>>
>>32287771

>>

I'd suggest sprinting but I doubt Rowan can with her casts.

If dog guy picks up speed Sierra might need to carry Rowan.
>>
>>32287786

But it wasn't the languid that we knew and loved that emerged back from that seething darkness.
>>
>>32287801

>>
>>32287801

>>
>>32287826

>>32287840

>>
>>32287801
Scoop up ro and book it, chance are we can move faster carrying her than we can alongside her.
>>
>>32287801
Find some other dogs, then make them panic with our negative emotion abilities. Hopefully they'll go after the jogger's dogs.

Assuming they're not hellhounds or something...
>>
>>32287801

How far do we have to go, and how fast is everything moving? Given he seemed to get here freakishly fast, we probably don't want to turn this into a running race but rather want to string out what is presumably a fake normal pace long enough for us to stay comfortably ahead until we get home.
>>
>>32287801
Wait for an attack and savage the dogs with our poison teeth
>>
>>32287856

>>
>>32287858

>>32287801

We can definitely take some weight off her bad leg though.
>>
>>32287849
>>32287858
>Time to princess carry it. And fast. Like fucking maximum speed goddamnit run fuck we need more legs!

Also, guys, if things go south, should we use shadow powers to save ourselves and Rowan?
>>
>>32287870

Well it's a ten minute walk, but presumably shorter hustle and a much shorter run.

Rowan isn't in crutches, she's just got one of those foot brace things.
>>
>>32287890
It does, just not that way. Yet.

We still don't even have horns. If our demonic bling is tied to powers we gain then I hope they come in with our regeneration stuff, given that horns are associated with vitality (and, uh, fertility but whatever). Horns are cool as fuck.
>>
>>32287801
What about just finding a cafe or somewhere public with lots of people to sit down while we wait for Isaac?
If there's none nearby we might as well let Rowan lean on us and try to keep up the pace as best we can.
>>
>>32287801
Throw an arm around her so she can hop and keep up.
Does sense weakness tell us anything about how strong this guy is?
>>32287943
I seriously question the usefullness of shadow powers in broad daylight.
>>
>>32287801
Time to run. Take her arm, take some weight of of her bum leg. If it comes down to it, we will give her some cover while she gets back to her house.
>>
>>32287985
Languid did mention shady alleys so I was hoping that would be enough shadow. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, though.
>>
>>32287990
If we break out into a run, then dog-guy will almost certainly catch up with us seeing as how he seems to have gotten here abnormally fast. Even if we were both at full health I wouldn't bank on outrunning him.

I get the impression that he's feigning a normal speed for the time being though, which lets us stay ahead of him safely. We can break out into a run if he speeds up to the point that he'd intercept us before home. If this impression is inaccurate, then yeah I guess we need to run.

>>32287985
Yes, did we get a read on this creep?
>>
>>32288085
Is there some sort of Shadow trick we could pull to lose him in the back alleys?
Seems like a decent way to reveal the whole Verwelken thing
>>
>>32288085
>>32288132
Eh, the issue is the dogs. Alleyways tend to be one direction things in surburbia, and our ability to hide from sight is of limited use when he's got a pile of dogs potentially tracking us.
>>
>>32288132
>>32288198
We can trip him up with shadows though.
>>
>>32288224
Oh! That's true.
Maybe some sort of shadow wall blocking an alley? Though if he does move at 20mph that won't keep him for long.
>>
>>32288085
It's a last resort if he seems to be gaining on us, and should probably be accompanied by a desperate "please don't hate me/freak out" if it becomes necessary.
>>32288198
that would be a concern

>>32288132
Shadow powers do seem to be very useful defensively; main reason Verwelken are hated/feared seems to be because you can't see the fuckers to react to them (also the whole widespread insanity thing)

Using your dubious powers to try and protect people is probably one of the more redeeming ways to reveal them.
>>
>>32288132
Upscale neighborhood during the day. Not much in the way of shadows. Worth a shot, if nothing else.
>>
>>32288285
It'd be using the shadowy alleys that were mentioned in the neighborhood description
>>
You see Rowan wincing as she tries to keep up with you. Even wounded and limping, she’s still able to move pretty dang fast, but dog walker’s pace is a lot faster than yours without him even doing anything abnormal. This isn’t going to work out.

“We need more speed,” you say. You get on Rowan’s foot brace side and get under her arm, and help get weight off her leg. You run as one, getting your speed up to something respectable.
Rowan says nothing, and instead focuses on movement.

You think you’re making good time for a while, even with the dog walker slowly gaining on you. Something changes that, though. You hear a shout and rampant barking, and turn around. You see the four German Shepards bursting ahead of the dog walker, who has ‘accidentally’ lost hold on their leashes. They don’t turn to the right or the left, but instead are making a beeline straight toward you.

Fucking dogs. (+3 Stress: 19/100)

Ro turns to look. “Oh crap,” she says.

The only chance you see yourself having is down one of the alleyways. “C’mon, this way,” you say, suddenly changing direction on Ro and pulling her over into the gap between apartment buildings.

“Where are you going?” Rowan asks between breaths.

“Right here,” you say, getting as far as you can down the alley before the fastests of the dogs appears at the other end. It skitters about the edge and comes barreling down after you. You’ve got a few seconds. “Go!” You say, pushing Rowan ahead and turning around to confront the animal. When it gets closer, you see its form waver and snap, then vanish altogether, like one of those little image cards that changes appearance when you look at it from different angles.

In its place is something the likes of which you’ve never seen before in your life – and yet, at the same time, is vaguely… familiar? The German Shepard isn’t a dog at all, but rather a snarling, dog-shaped form of leathery flesh, rolling sinew, and muscle. It has two swooped horns on its head, and a hideously lolling tongue. Tufts of hair and spines stick out from its skin, and its feet are tipped with jagged claws, and its tail is rough and segmented – almost insect like, even. It looks a lot tougher than any dog you’ve ever seen. (Hellhound 11/11 HP)

The surprise of the thing’s alien form almost makes you forget you should be doing something. At the last second, you start condensing all of your fear and anger into a ball, and – the hellhound leaps at you before you can project your negative emotions. Dammit, it’s fast – instinctually, you raise your claws and grab the thing by the head to keep its carving maw away from your face, and abandon your attack. You feel the energy dissipate even as you’re thrown backward onto the asphalt. (-2 PP 11/13, +6 Stress: 30/100)

It’s weight and claws crush down on you – its foreclaws cut through your jacket and dig into your skin, just below your collar bones. The pain gets you – you feel weak. A glorious blaze of light and sound explodes from behind you. “BACK, FIEND!” shouts a sonorous voice. Three bursts of light and thunder slam into the monster on top of you, one after another, and carry it off. You shakily get to your feet as fast as you can, and look back at Rowan. (Rowan: 3/15) She’s glowing white with blazing radiance, and grips a handgun in her off hand. The weapon looks like a five-seven, but it has taken on a golden candor and radiant glory.

You look back at the canine abomination. Burning red holes have been punched into its front shoulder, head, and back, out of all of which pumps oozing red fluid (Hellhound: 0/11). In your weakened state, the metallic scent of blood fills your nostrils, and the dark crimson almost seems to shimmer seductively at you in the light.

Another two hellhounds appear at the entrance of the alleyway.

The glow about Rowan fades, and she drops to a knee out of fatigue, keeping her pistol raised. “S-Sierra,” she says weakly, “I don’t know if I can do that again.”

The hounds come tearing down the alleyway, their barks sounding ravenous and metallic. Rowan starts pulling the trigger, peppering both creatures with as much lead as is in the magazine. The hounds are wickedly fast. One dodges the bullets meant for it, while the other takes a couple hits – it seems more resilient than any terrestrial creature would be in its situation, and keeps gaping toward you, albeit with a limp. (First Hellhound 5/11 HP)

Its uninjured packmate charges ahead. Another set of clothes ruined by blood and claw marks, you don’t even bother to roll up your sleeves as you draw fire from inside yourself to your claws. The ends of your jacket and shirt sleeves burn away in an instant as you throw a bolt of hellfire into the charging hellhound. The animal yelps in pain and rage, and lunges forward for the kill. (Second Hellhound 4/11 HP)

Rowan is out of ammunition, you’re out of time, and the hellhound’s jaws gape wide.

You throw up your hands as if to block the creature, throwing all of your willpower into making what’s about to happen, not happen. And it doesn’t. The dim lighting of the alley coalesces instantly into an opaque area of impenetrable darkness – not just by sight, but also by force. You can hear claws scraping at the other side of the wall, screeching against the hard shadow like nails on a chalkboard.
>>
>>32290428

It’s hard to keep them at bay – if they threw all their weight against your barrier, it would likely fail – luckily the animals aren’t smart enough to try it. (-9 PP 2/13)

Rowan looks on at the weaving shadows, petrified. “Wha… what am I looking at here, Sierra?”

Maybe it’s the pressure of the situation or your injuries or something but the bitter bloody scent in the air becomes irresistible. “Fuck I need this,” you say. You fall to your knees by the dead hellhound, and using your claws, gouge at the craters in its flesh, bring them up glistening with blood to your mouth, and lap it out of your palms. It’s fucking better than chocolate ice cream in a cherry coke float, and the effect it has on you is somewhere between 5-hour energy and crack cocaine. (+3 HP 7/13 HP) (+5 Stress: 40/100)

You can feel Rowan’s horrified gaze on your back, but you’ve got blood everywhere to cheer yourself up. You feel your power beginning to wane. The shadow wall has maybe a second left in it, unless you want to burn the rest of your power on keeping it up for another couple seconds.

>What happens?

>>

It's not being flippant though.

>probably better to ask forgiveness
The fuck, dude?
>>
“Less talking more running!” you say, pulling yourself away from your bloody bonanza, grabbing Rowan and dragging her with you toward the opposite side of the alley. She goes along in a daze, but keeps her speed up as much as you can.

Rowan’s eyes are wide. “That was –“

You yell, cutting her off. “I’m more mutt than I let on, sorry!” This is no time for fucking drama..

The shadow wall snaps back into the surrounding dim lighting, as if it were never there in the first place. The injured hellhounds are confused for a moment, but at the sight of fleeing prey, yip and give chase once again.

Meanwhile, the last of the four hellhounds has finally caught up (almost), and is hot on the heels of the other two. The last one’s a lot slower, but it’s also a lot fatter and a lot bigger, and its horns are much sharper. (Hellhound Alpha: 14/14 HP)

Rowan’s so fucking slow! Arrgh and that’s your fucking fault, dammit! (+8 Stress: 48/100)

You’re out of the alley, but the shrieking barks let you know the hounds aren’t far behind. You’re covered in blood (again), and you’ve got a bunch of dead weight at your side who can’t do anything.

>Ditch Rowan, you’re both dead if you stay with her!

Basically, this. And later tiers of it would give power reduction, increased regen speed, and even passive regen (I assume Trevon had a VERY powerful version of it that was gifted to him by his higher-up).

It takes us 12 hours to heal 1 point of damage normally. The regen power lets us heal up to 1 point per hour. That would have let us start this fight with full HP.

It's a downtime power, and it's SUPER useful. It's not for healing mid-fight.
>>
If we die, does the quest continue in hell?
>>
>>32291719
We also have the PP leech skill, so it's potentially more healing than that.

We could make the soccer goons feel like shit by draining their PP (they don't use it anyway) and then heal with it.

>We also have the PP leech skill, so it's potentially more healing than that.

Yup. Regardless, it's a super fucking nifty downtime ability that we REALLY NEED, since it takes us about a week to heal up from significantly injured if we're not drinking blood at the moment.

It'd be a good idea to show off what we can do as little as possible to the outside world.

>>32291928
>Well more anons voted for it
>I think it even got the most votes
Oh, it definitely did. It was the most supported. It just wasn't the most needed, and it was definitely a worse choice. People were asleep when the vote was cast, and shadow powers were on everyone's mind because we were trying to decide how to come out to the Hallows.

But seriously, it's whatevs. What's done is done. We just need to make sure we pick it up next time.
>>
>>32291912
>>32291954

After today, if we survive that is, I imagine regen will be pretty high on our list of priorities.

But in the shadow graps voters defence, I'm thinking most everyone figured we'd stay out of serious combat for at least a couple of days.
>>
>>32291928
Regen was third highest by a large margin though, so it's basically guaranteed as one of our next powers unless we get some ridiculously OP new options

>>32291954
We have virtually no PP left, and collecting it from those uglies seems incredibly inadvisable. We can not deal with three hellhounds and whatever was handling them. Going for the door is a much safer bet, and we can always throw ourselves between Ro and the dogs if the worst comes to pass and they catch up.
>>
>>32292006
The only way we'd do so is if we had to, and in a situation where the dogs would have to come at us one at a time.
>>
>>32292006
From how Languid worded it, it's almost certain they'll reach us before the door. He's giving us a chance to leg it before Rowan, or put ourselves in their way.

Honestly, we're looking pretty fucked here dude. We don't even know if a door will hold these creatures.
>>
>>32292070
>From how Languid worded it, it's almost certain they'll reach us before the door. He's giving us a chance to leg it before Rowan, or put ourselves in their way.

I'm not really seeing that implication, other than the hard roll.

>Sacrifice self
But her attitude towards Rowan make's it seem like she isn't ready to do the self sacrifice things.

>>

>>
>>32292136

>>
this may not be the most relevant thing to the current situation, but have we asked anyone whether god and satan are actual things yet? I cant recall it happening and it seems like the kind of thing that would pop up.
>>
>>32292196
Nope.

We do know hell exists though.
>>
>>32292155
Running with the cripple in tow is a death sentence to the cripple. Face it dude, this isn't going to be pretty for at least one of us.

If push comes to shove, and this is exactly what that is, would Sierra put herself before Rowan here? Personally, I think not because we kind of owe her one (being the ones that broke her arm and all).
>>
>>32292196
If God exists it's certainly not the Abrahamic God of the Old Testament, since the devil was his servant not opponent.
>>
>>32292225
If Sierra turns and fights what happens?

We die, dogs follow up on Rowan because it's only going to take a few seconds to kill us.

Or we hulkamania, at which point we kill everything, probably also Rowan this time, for her blood.
>>
You run as fast as you can while assisting Rowan. You don’t look right, you don’t look left, you only focus all of your remaining energy on running – you’re sure maybe you were dragging Rowan with you at some point, doing most of the running for both of you. You’re at the stairs that lead up to the open door when you know you’re not going to make it.

You heave Rowan forward with all your strength, then wheel round to face your pursuers without taking the time to watch her keep scrambling toward the door.

The first hellhound leaps at you – you dodge to the side and throw your claws out towards its throat – you grab hold, rip, and pull away – to your satisfaction you hear the creature gargle in its own blood when it barks. If falls to its belly, choking. (First Hellhound: 1/11 HP)

But you don’t have time to revel, because the second one is on you! You step back, dodging its jaws. You can feel its hot, dank breath against the front of your legs. You dance around to the side and try to shimmy by its side so you’re not cornered with your back against the wall, but a rip in your jeans gets caught on one of its spines and you fall flat on your face. (-1 HP 6/13, +5 Stress: 53/100)
>>
>>32292311

The hellhound jerks to the side, ripping free of the entanglement, and rounds on you – frantically, you crawl away from the creature, kicking wildly back at it as it snaps its maw at your feet. The scent of sweat and rotting meat peal off of the creature in waves. You feel a foot make solid contact with its face, and again and again as you kick it, but you don’t think it’s doing anything. (+5 Stress: 58/100)

The hellhound moves forward in a rush and pins you down. You wince and yell in pain as its scythe scything through the skin of your back. (-2 HP 4/13) Feebly, you look up, and see the big hellhound charging you, moving in a lumbering, methodical gait. A hundred, two hundred pounds of teeth, muscle, and bone.

You’re dead. You squeeze your eyes shut – you hope it won’t take too long. (+25 Stress: 83/100)

There’s a fleshy ripping sound and a high pitched squeal. The pressure on the claws in your back is suddenly lightened, and the claws rip out suddenly. (-1 HP 5/13) Hot liquid pours down on your back, and the back of your head. You feel a mass of muscle slam to the ground beside you. You open your eyes, and see the face of the hellhound, eyes vacant, its jaw hanging open, and blood pouring from its open mouth.

You push yourself and look to the remaining hellhound, the one you almost killed. Its snarling at the big hellhound, while the latter simply creeps forward with a low, steady growl.
>>
>>32292337

In a flash, it lunges forward, bats its quarry’s head out of the way with a strike of its claws, and seizes it by the neck. It gives a single, hard jerk and you hear a hollow popping noise. The wounded hellhound goes limp, and the alpha drops it from its jaws like a bag of bricks.

In a panic, you right yourself and crawl backward. The surviving hellhound shifts toward your motion, and prowls toward you. It walks all the way up to you and stops. It stares into your eyes, filling you with terror. (+5 Stress: 88/100)

And then it leans forward, licks your face with its hot, greasy tongue – your face stings afterward. Its tongue was so rough you’re sure it’s left scratches.

Then the massive hellhound settles sedately on its haunches, watching you and panting quick, shallow breaths. It seems pretty calm, given the current situation. Its calm is kind of infectious. (-2 Stress: 86/100)

Wait just one fucking minute. There’s some serious fucking déjà vu going on right now. It’s like you know there’s a word that perfectly describes the situation, and you know exactly what you want it to mean, but you can’t quite get a handle on it. You look up into the hellhound’s blood red eyes and see a glint of familiarity almost beyond memory.

And also does she maybe want a dog, because you might have a dog now.
>>
>Wait. Where’s dog walker?
Shit Rowan!
>>
>>32292480
>>32292481
We should really make sure the Walker didn't run ahead and snap up Rowan before indulging ourselves.
>>
>>32292523
Ah, I see what you mean now.
>>
>>32292612
this seems far too likely given our current situation, we need to check on Rowan
>>
>>32292363
>Reeber? Good doggy.

Also yell for Rowan to make sure she's okay
I don;t trust the creepy superfast dogwalker

don't go inside though in case the dog handler needs to be dealt with
>>
>>32292579
>And also does she maybe want a dog, because you might have a dog now.
I like this, but we should save it until Rowan recovers a little. And she might not be in the mood for jokes from a Verwelken
>>
>>32292612
And if we do come across him? We're at 3HP and 2PP. We can just about sneeze at him if we come across him threatening Rowan right now.
>>
>>32292733
you forget, we have apparently aquired a faithful hellbeast
>>
>>32292733
And if we're too late, she's gone. Alternatively he may be right behind Reeber getting ready to stomp our ass. The point is we still haven't accounted for him and taking our sweet time drinking blood, which I'm pretty sure Sierra is still freaked by could get us just as dead.

Healing time is unfortunately not a mid encounter kind of thing.
>>
>>32292733
Sick the dog on him.
>>
>>32292693
What? You don't think she likes dark humor?
>>
>>32292693
...fair points.
>>
>>32292804
>verwelken
>"dark" humor
well played, anon, well played
>>
>>32292794
>>32292800

Walker might have animal control abilities. In fact it'd be odd if he didn't given his control of the hellhounds.
>>
>>32292804
Ohohoho
>>
The real question, are demon dogs inherently bad dogs, or are they kinda just big ass dogs with horns?
>>
Rolled 18

>>32292876
Regardless of the answer, this particular one is willing to kill to protect us, and remains pretty fucking chill even after doing so. That makes him alright either way, in my book.
>>
>>32292876
Are half-demon gang members inherently bad halff-demon gang members, or just kick ass chicks with claws?
>>
>>32292876
Well then you'd have to define what a 'good dog' is?

Is it an obedient dog? Then by definition, 'Reeber' is a bad dog given he went against the walker's orders.
>>
>>32292913
inherently bad
>>
>>32292913
Not any more evil than a human can be.

So I'm thinking big dog with horns.
>>
You remember the word you were looking for. “Reeber?” you say. Your hands seem to know what to do without you having to think too much about it. You reach up, put your hands under the hellhound’s horns, and rub the monster dog’s head. Its flesh is surprisingly pliable, allowing you to contort your dog’s face into all kinds of weird expressions in the span of a few seconds. The hellhound lets its tongue loll out of its mouth and sits there idly, seeming to enjoy himself.

“Good boy,” you say. You don’t really care that his face is covered in blood, because that’s pretty much your default look anyway. Plus you get the feeling that you missed him a lot without even knowing it. (-25 Stress: 61/100)

But surprise reunions aside, you find the blood covering you and pouring from the freshly slain not-your-hellhounds very attractive right now. “You wanna snack?” you ask Reeber, the fat hellhound you never even knew you had. He just stares stupidly at you. “Well I fucking do.”

You turn and claw open the hellhound that was about to finish you off when Reeber came along. Blood oozes out of it, and you delight yourself in sucking it down. Your dog joins you, tearing off a piece of meat from its side and chewing sloppily. The taste does some to negate everything that hurts. (+4 HP: 7/13) The surge of energy doesn’t shock you as much as it did last time, maybe because you don’t feel as rushed, and maybe because Rowan isn’t watching you. (+2 Stress: 63/100)

A grating voice possessed of great volume interrupts your reprieve. “What sorcery is this?!”

You lift your dripping face from heaven and turn to look at the speaker. It’s the dog walker. He’s on the other side of the road, having just come out of the alleyway. Except, now that’s he’s closer to you, you can kind of see through his fake-look like you could see through the fake appearance of the hellhounds. If you turn your head, he doesn’t look like an out of shape guy with a mullet. He looks like a seven foot tall humanoid without skin to cover his exposed red muscle. He has a pair of tall, curved horns sprouting out of his head, a spined tail, and claws not dissimilar to yours – his legs are oddly jointed and animalistic in appearance. His feel sport claws just like his hands.

The Infernus wears a black tabard woven out of coarse material, and his chiseled, red face is contorted into an expression of absolute rage. “Keil’groth!” he barks at Reeber, gesturing sharply at you. “Aggot!”

Instead of aggoting you, Reeber looks lazily over his shoulder at dogwalker with disinterest, and then looks happily back at you.

“Your spells may have beguiled the creature, hellborn witch,” yells dog walker, getting angrier by the second. He begins striding forward, “but I will have your life in exchange for my hounds!”

You hear a screech of tires, and glance over to see a blue convertible drift around the corner and rocket down the road toward you and dog walker. Dog walker seems too angry to pay attention to his surroundings.

>No you won’t.
>Hows about I have your life in exchange for my hound?
>Dude, you're way metal.
>So do you show your dogs to all the ladies, or just the underage ones?

Stall for time

This. Fuck fighting this guy honestly. Let's see if we can distract him well enough to let whoever is coming get the drop on his cuntass.

Well, he is.

And soon he's going to have crossbow bolts in him.

You have 0/13 PP.

>Operation Stall is a go

>Hows about I have your life in exchange for my hound?

Didn't Isaac mention driving a convertible? I think he did. Let's keep the demon distracted so he's easier to run over.

Why is Languid so based?
>>
>>32293403
Well then, how about we just say.

"Why would I need witchcraft to charm my own dog?"

Reeber, aggot.

What's the HP count on this demon?

Shit yes. Have Reeber aggot the fuck out of that guy.

I think Reeber might be short for Erebus or something.
>>

Dude, he's about to get run down by Isaac, don't sent our bad ass dog in there to get hit too.

>>

Why the urge to tell our enemies exactly what is going on in this situation?

It works in our favour if the walker thinks his beast is bespelled into laziness/inaction than actually loyal to us.

>>32293597
And I'm with this guy, we don't want our new buddy getting caught in the crossfire here.
>>
>>32293680
Might get a clue to who our family is.

Mostly shameful metagaming.
>>
>>32293680
Yeah, if anything we should be making sure we're ready to bring him to heel so he doesn't get aggressive towards Isaac after his dynamic entry
>>
>>32293680
Agreed on both points.
>>
Whoah new thread.
