You awaken after a good night’s rest, finding that Riolu is already awake. After getting dressed and heading downstairs, you have breakfast with your family. Riolu was capable of sniffing out what he wanted from the selection available. He seemed to have a preference for meat, eggs, and leafy greens, which you make note of. Maybe later you can spend some time figuring out his diet in more detail.

“So Ceil,” your father starts, “I’ve got some good news. I managed to find a shipment for you to oversee. It’s headed for the Terminus mines, just outside of Anistar. It’s leaving tomorrow, but I think it’s a good fit. Just make sure to take care of any other business you have today.”

Where did you want to head first today?

You decide to head over to Jean's place right away, eager to get equipped. After you finish gathering up your things, you head over to his family's workshop. On your way over, you notice that the crowds are much thinner than yesterday, although that could be due to the time of day.

Soon you arrive at your destination, finding Jean inside double checking inventory.

"Hey Ceil," Jean smiles, "wasn't expecting you to get here this early. You're lucky my family prides ourselves on swift work. Just wait here and I'll get your glaive for you."

Jean heads into the back room, returning in a few moments with crimson weapon in hand. He hands it to you, and you immediately note that it's much lighter than you were expecting. A few practice swings confirm that you'll have no trouble using it.

"Thanks again," you say, "This should come in handy."

"Just don't go getting killed now," Jean replies.

A carving knife. Always useful.

Deciding to head over to Lisa's, you begin heading through town. You somewhat regret not having the time to see her yesterday, but you did get all of your supplies done.

Lisa's place is a fairly sprawling building on the east side of town, mostly made of wood. From what you recall, most of it is used for storing the materials they use for their business.

Heading inside, you find Lisa sweeping the floor. She looks up from her work and a smile grows on her face.

"Ceil!" she exclaims as she heads over to you, "You're finally back from you trip! How did it go? See anything neat?"

You begin to respond, however it seems Lisa's attention is now entirely focused on your bag, where Riolu is riding.

"Oh my goodness!" she begins, "You finally got a monster, and it's super cute as well."

Riolu seems to be enjoying the attention given to him, although that's not to unusual for Lisa.

"Yeah, a lot of stuff happened," you interrupt, "I wanted to stop by before I leave tomorrow."

"Leaving?" she asks, "Where are you going this time?"

"It's part of continuing my training," you continue, "I'm supposed to see the land, and to do that I'm going to oversee one of my father's shipments."

"I see," Lisa comments, "I suppose I won't be seeing you for a while then. Anyway, is there anything you still need? Some supplies maybe? I could see what we have in stock."

What will you do?

"Lisa, I was wondering if you might want to accompany me on my journey?" you inquire.

"I, what?" she stammers, "Isn't that a bit sudden? I mean you said you're leaving tomorrow right?"

"Sorry," you apologize, "I guess that was a bit-"

"No," she interrupts, "I mean, yes I'll go. I should ask my parents first though, and I'll need to get my things together."

She heads off into another room mumbling to herself about all the preparations she needs to do. You make certain to leave her a note specifying where to meet tomorrow.

Deciding that you have taken care of everything you need, you start heading home. You arrive around lunchtime, which seems to be meat and potatoes. You notice that Riolu doesn't care for potatoes very much.

"So dad, there was something I wanted to talk to you about," you start, "I invited Lisa to accompany the shipment with me."

Your father pauses as he gives you an inquisitive look from across the table.

"Why did you want to invite her, exactly?" he inquires.

"Well, I was worried about getting attacked by flying monsters," you assert, "And she is the best archer I know."

"That's a relief," he replies, "Glad you're thinking about this sort of thing."

Riolu busies himself with exploring the area before you resolve what you want to train him on. You head over to a tree near the edge of the property, Riolu following at your heels.

"Alright Riolu," you shout, "Give that tree what you got!"

Riolu approaches the tree carefully, he stops in front of it, looking back at you inquisitively. You throw a few jabs at the air, then point at the tree. After understanding your meaning, Riolu takes a stance before slowly circling his target.

You watch as he quickly strikes the tree using the back of his arm, leaping back after completing the strike. He continues the move several times. He seems to prefer using the hard plates on the back of his arms to increase the force of the strikes.

After understanding how he's attacking, you think you see some room for improvement. You approach the tree, and signal Riolu to watch what you do. You strike lightly at the tree with the back of your arm, before whirling around quickly to hit it with the other. You then signal Riolu to try. At first he has some trouble rotating on the spot while still hitting, although he seems to be making progress.

Eventually though, it gets to be time for dinner, and you stop your training for now.
>>
>>31525447
After dinner, you go over some of the details of the ship manifest for tomorrow, and then you head off to bed for the night.

The next morning, you wake up rather early to a strange thwacking noise coming from outside. Looking around the room, you don't see Riolu anywhere, so you rush to the window. Down near the tree you can see Riolu, who seems to have woken up earlier than you once again. He stands a fair distance of the tree, and you observe as he dashes towards it rather quickly, before doing a slight leap at the end and spinning, using the extra momentum to power his strikes.

You head downstairs and outside, which causes Riolu to rush over towards you. Despite how much better he seems to have gotten overnight, he doesn't seem that tired. The tree has seen better days though, as you notice many patches of bark have been broken off.

After eating breakfast, getting dressed, gathering your gear, and saying goodbye to your folks, you head over to the docks, where you see Lisa, who seems to have even more supplies than you do.

"Good morning Ceil!" she calls out as you approach, "Are you excited for the trip? It took me hours to convince my parents to let me go."

"My father seemed okay with it," you comment, "I guess he thought it was a good idea."

The two of you head aboard the ship. Some of the crew are still moving crates, although you manage to ask one where the captain is. He directs you to the front of the ship, where a tall man in a coat seems to be giving a meal to a tall yellow monster with crystal orbs on its head and tail.

"Good morning to you," the man bellows, "I suppose you'd be Ceil, Robert's boy?"

"Indeed I am," you reply.

"And this lass is with you?" he smirks as he notices Lisa.

"Yes," she says, "We're friends. He asked me to come with him."

"Well, I regret to inform the two of you," he continues, "That we only prepared one room. I didn't hear about your guest until this morning."

"I don't suppose you could get another bunk?" you question.

"Well, if that's the case, the only thing I could probably get," he concludes, "would be some of the spare hammocks we keep below decks. They aren't very comfortable, but we keep them around in case we need more sleeping room."

"Perfect," you quickly reply, "Can I get one for me and my Riolu?"

"I'll have someone take care of it once all the cargo is loaded up," he nods, "Just try not to need a bed before then."

He departs, and you're left standing near the bow with Lisa.

"Well, I'm glad we got that sorted out," you comment.

"You're taking the hammock," Lisa commands, "Since this was your idea."

"So Lisa," you start, "What made you decide to come along on this trip?"

"Well," she smiles, "I don't know if it was any one thing. I haven't ever traveled by ship before though. Although that's because my families so busy all of the time. Usually if I'm not watching the store, I'm either hunting in the forest or tending to our land sharks."

"I still can't believe your family managed to get a half dozen of those monster," you jest, "And all you do with them is use their unlimited supply of teeth as arrowheads."

"Very funny Ceil," she smirks, "But your father buys more of them than anyone else in town. From what I heard from the sailors, there's two crates worth on this very ship."

"Yeah," you explain, "The fort over there is always trying to keep a good stockpile of weapons and supplies. Some of the stuff is military goods for the fort, but a bulk of the shipment are the glowing crystals from the glittering caves. It makes lighting the mines a lot easier."

"I'm starting to wonder how much trouble you actually expected," Lisa comments, "It doesn't seem very dangerous, especially with the fort nearby."

"Well, from what I recall," you reply, "There are some pretty dangerous monsters in that region. Like dragons who can eat entire mountains."

"There's no point trying to scare me Ceil," she smiles, "I'm going to have a nice relaxing trip and you can't stop me."

She moves over to the railing to look out over the sea. You're about to join her, when you notice the movement of crates onto the ship has stopped, and you seem to be leaving port. The sails unfurl overhead, and the ship begins to move away from the shore.

You decide to look around the ship to see if any of the crew needs assistance. You immediately discard the option of helping out with the rigging, as you would probably only get in the way.

Towards the bow of the ship, you notice a few sailors keeping an eye on the tall yellow monster you saw earlier. As you get further from shore, you notice the monster launch the occasional lightning shock towards the water. You've heard that such creatures are often used to prevent aquatic monsters from attacking the ship.

Seeing nothing above deck you can help with, you head below, wandering around until you find a man with a large stack of books and papers attempting to open a doorway, with little success.

"Let me help you with that," you say as you open the door, allowing the man inside. You watch him set down the stack on a desk before he turns to face you.

"Thanks for the help," he sighs, "It's always a hassle to get that thing open. Where are my manners though? I'm Alex, the navigator and bookkeeper. on this ship. Right now I need to file these shipping manifests, and after that I'll have to go down to the larder and make sure the food supply is all accounted for."

"I could help you with those files," you suggest, "I can understand all the numbers just fine."

"You would?" he replies, "That would certainly be most helpful, ah. It seems you have me at a disadvantage."

"My name is Ceil," you say, "Let's get started shall we?"

He nods and hands you a portion of the stack, while he mutters something about your name being familiar. The two of you work quickly though, sorting through all the files, making sure everything had it's price noted and was accounted for. During the time you notice Riolu leave the room several times, most likely exploring the ship due to boredom. However, after an hour, you've completed your task.

"You certainly are good at this," Alex comments, "Although I can't say I've seen you around before Ceil."

After saying your name, a look of realization seems to cross the mans face, as though he just realized who he was speaking to.

"I just remembered where I had heard that name before," he sighs, "You must forgive me for forcing you to help me with my work."

"Don't worry about it," you smirk, "I was the one who insisted on helping in the first place."

"I suppose that's true," he mumbles, "Anyway, 'm going to go count the larder and take inventory there. You've done more than enough for me today, so feel free to do something else."

Before you can interject, he hurries off, leaving you in his office. You consider what to do next.

You decide to head with Riolu to a corner of the ship above decks. You haven't had a good chance to meditate since you got back from your trip, and it seemed like a good way to spend some time.

You close your eyes, reaching out to observe your surrounds with Aura. You immediately sense a very strong and vast presence below you, which seems to constantly swirl and move. Recognizing this as the ocean, you continue to focus in other directions. The next aura you take note of is a very energetic one near the front of the ship. It seems to flicker somewhat like a candle, although the movement feels less soft. Continuing to focus, you begin to notice the occasional sailor moving nearby. You don't get many details from them, and most of the ones you see aren't very far.

After a while, you notice one presence in particular come into focus. It draws closer and closer until it almost completely dominates your vision. You're not quite sure what's going on.

"Ceil," a familiar voice calls, "Why are you sleeping while sitting like that?"

Your eyes snap open to find Lisa staring you in the face, and you spring back in surprise. Lisa has a confused look on her face, and Riolu seems to still be meditating.

"I was meditating with Riolu," you explain, "It's part of the training I did. Would you like to join?"

"Sure," she agreed, "It sounds interesting."

You proceed to give her a general explanation of aura, and how meditating increases your awareness of it. She nods along, occasionally asking questions. After a bit, you all begin meditating.

You once again reach out with your senses. You note the ocean once again first, although this time you also take note of Lisa, due to her proximity. Focusing outward again, you try to sense something else, although you're a bit distracted when Lisa switches her legs around. After a moment she becomes still again, so you once again allow yourself to focus. You realize now that the bright aura towards the front of the ship is definitely the lightning monster you saw earlier, although it seems to become less distinct occasionally, probably when the creature is shooting lighting. You try and see if you can recognize what it's shooting at, but Lisa once again repositions herself. Moving on from there, you start focusing on the crew that passes by, mainly trying to see if you can identify facial features. You continue for a while, but you notice that Lisa hasn't moved in a while. You didn't notice her leave, so perhaps she finally managed to concentrate? Glancing towards her aura, you notice it seems a bit more subdued than normal. It would probably be more active if she was focusing, so that can only mean one thing.

You open your eyes and look to your right, finding that Lisa seems to have fallen asleep onto your shoulder.

Smiling to yourself, you adjust your shoulder slightly to make sure she doesn't fall over. Then, you resume your meditation.

You concentrate once again, noticing the same auras you have before, although a thought occurs to you. You notice the lightning monster from across the ship, while you only notice the crew while they're nearby. It's likely that more powerful auras can be sensed from a greater distance. You wonder just what the range is on your ability to sense auras. However, since the only thing nearby is the ocean, that means you'll probably only sense aquatic monsters. Focusing, you trail your senses downward into the massive sea. You don't notice anything for a long while, although abruptly you feel a presence cross deep below you. Whatever it is has a similar aura to the ocean itself, although whatever it is seems very angry to you. It's also fairly large, which causes you to reel back your senses as quickly as possible. You're not sure quite what that thing was, or if it could tell you were looking at it, but you don't want to take any chances.

You're suddenly aware of movement on your shoulder, and you watch with your aura as Lisa seems to awaken from her slumber. You sense her aura ping with embarrassment as she shifts away from you. She looks back to you, and embarrassment gives way to relief as she notices you haven't reacted at all. She's probably not aware that you can see her right now.

Now seems like a good time to stop meditating. You feel as though you've exhausted your supply of things to focus on.

Blinking your eyes open, Lisa gasps in surprise.

"Hey Ceil," she stammers, "That meditation stuff sure is great. I'm not sure if it's my thing though."

"Yeah, I suppose it's not for everyone," you remark. Looking around, it seems to be around evening. You must have been meditating for longer than you thought. You stand up, stretching your legs, using the opportunity to glance over the railing behind you. Thankfully, you don't spy any horrific monsters coming up from the depths to consume your ship, so whatever you saw probably isn't going to kill you.

"Well, since it's getting a bit late, do you want to head to the galley?" you inquire, "We could get some food and check out our cabin afterwards."

"Sure, that sounds good to me," Lisa replies, thankful that you apparently don't suspect she was sleeping.

Heading down to the kitchen, you find that you missed the scheduled dinnertime for most of the ship's crew. However, due to your status, they were planning on preparing your meal separately anyway. The meat is mostly dried and salted, however the rest of the meal is more palatable. Riolu focuses mostly on the meat once again, while Lisa crumbs some bread for her Pidgey.

By the time you finish eating, the sun has set, and you head to the cabin. There is a sizable bunk in the room, though you'd certainly be hard pressed to fit two people in it. The crew also finished setting up your hammocks. You also note a desk in the room, as well as a stand that seems to have been set up for Lisa's Pidgey.

"Well, I don't know about you," you yawn, "But I'm going to turn in for the night."

"I might stay up for a bit, since," Lisa begins before pausing, "Then again, it is pretty late, so I should probably get some sleep now."

You decide to give Riolu the top hammock, as Lisa takes the bed, and with that you end your first day on the open ocean.

------------------------------------

After a week of travel, you've almost arrived at your destination. You've spent much of the time meditating with Riolu, and you've managed to expand your sensitivity to Auras a fair amount. Now you can usually spot sailors from halfway across the ship, as long as there isn't too much in the way. During the time, the sailors managed to fish up an oyster, which you found Riolu completely loved. Other than that, it's been a fairly typical voyage.

However, around noon, you hear shouting whilst in the middle of your meditation. Looking about, you soon find out what's causing all of the commotion.

On the horizon, a ship seems to rapidly be sailing towards yours, and judging be the yells and their flag, it could only be one thing.

Pirates.

----------------------------

I'm going to call it here for a night. Thank you for sticking with me through this. If you have any comments or suggestions on what I could do better, I'd love to hear them.

well, your quest is pretty slow, but i like it.
and yay, we're going to see some action next thread
>>
>>31529677
Like the other anon said the quest is a little slow paced but it is quite enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the confrontation with the pirates. I expect it will be interesting to get a look at some combat.

Thanks. I'll try to speed things up in the future. Hopefully the next part goes a bit more smoothly.
>>
>>31529677
slow-going, but the content is good. This is more episodic, I suppose.

btw if you are the one archiving you might want to add the Medievalmon tag to it next time so people can locate the threads on suptg easier.
>>
>>31529853
I'll keep that in mind for the future.

ETA for next thread?
>>
>>31530037
I want to try to run it either Friday or Saturday, depending on what my schedule looks like. Failing that, I will try to make sure I have threads Wednesday regardless.

I'll make sure to post to twitter a bit ahead of time for when threads are.

ha, I love it.

I wonder if the pirates have any combat trained monsters
