You are the PRODUCER, a former soldier hired to manage a group of teenage girls on their rise to stardom, assuming they don't get killed in the process!

After a few weeks, you feel that you're starting to get into the hang of things after adjusting to your new profession. So far, it's just been a rigorous regimen of training for your girls, in both the idol and combat arts. You're somewhat worried about having to get newer idols to catch up to them, but Jenner assured you that as the company and it's fame grew, talented idols would be coming to YOU for employment rather than the other way around.

Well, baby steps first.

Looking at your schedule, you know that you'll have to get around to fulfilling Delta City Mall's job request soon. Apparently their delinquent problem has been steadily growing worse, with reports of people getting harassed after hours. However, you're still concerned a bit about the fact that your girls are still unproven in combat. You really wanted to get a little more training in.

In addition, Jenner had informed you that a message came in from the Boss' buddy, and he's willing to trade something for all the surplus M4s you collected.

That's not even beginning to mention the fact that you don't even have songs or dance routines set up yet.

>Let's take the girls out to kick some delinquent ass.

>Greets, Producer. I've heard some things about you from our mutual acquaintance.

>I must thank you for delivering these vintage M4s to me, and am willing to let you select one item from the following list.

>PS: If you happen to come across any more antique firearms, please send them my way, and you will be rewarded accordingly.

CYBER-HOUND Mk3
The latest in intelligent battlefield companions, the Cyber Hound is a multirole, quadruped robot capable of a wide range of tasks from recon, hazardous material disposal, combat, and more! Also comes equipped with an onboard AI to improve combat effectiveness.

SMART LINK SYSTEM
The Smart Link System is a cheaper, more convenient alternative to augmetics when it comes to more effective use of firearms. This head mounted system boasts an advanced onboard processor and holographic HUD projector allow the user to fire the weapon from any angle and position with negligible drop in accuracy.

KINETIC STRIKE MODULE (SMALL)
A device that fits over the user's forearm, the Kinetic Strike Module uses proprietary railgun technology to propel a tungsten carbide piston at hypersonic speeds. Initially designed for demolition work, the Kinetic Strike Module has also become a favored piece of equipment for police departments and militaries all over the world for its destructive capability.

>>
So who should we pair Bladewolf up with?
>>
>>29615850
>CYBER-HOUND Mk3
Because recon and an extra combat-capable unit is a great thing to have, if we appropriately dress it up it can be an animal mascot for the idol group, and it sounds like a Smart Link is something that would be easier to acquire than a cyber-hound.
>>
>>29615975
Cole, since she can power him up.plus she needs a pet to get her approval up.
>>
>>29615975

Rochelle or Rin, Rochelle is the most tactically capable, while Rin is the most vulnerable out of all the idols, so a robot bodyguard can do her some good.

Plus her saying good doggie to Blade Wolf tickles me.
>>
>>29615960
For human targets, I prefer to pulp bones and cause massive trauma with a gun. More wieldly and possessed of greater ammunition.

Anyways, I get the feeling a lot of people are voting for the cyber-hound because of Metal Gear Rising, which is okay, because they, in an albeit indirect pay, pay homage to the God of Reconnaissance, who watches over us with a stealth UAV.

There's always the Liberty Prime standby.

Also, from those early threads, just one thing: Cole probably does not have power over electromagnetic fields so much as she has the power to manipulate them. The first is "I am the god of electromagnetics" and could do as you say, while the second would disallow the crazy shit like letting atoms fly apart, because the individual EM fields are far too tiny to perceive, and in aggregate, they are enormously powerful.

You decide to arrange for one last weapons range exercise, at least to review what the girls learned. Most of your early sessions were spent rigorously teaching the girls gun safety, as well as how to assemble, disassemble, and clean their weapons. They actually did not spend all that much time on shooting, speaking relatively.

"Hello, sir." Rochelle salutes you as she walks in.

"Yo, Producer!" Julie waves cheerfully.

"Hey." Cole grumbles.

"Well girls. We all know why we're here." You say, pointing down the room to several paper targets. "I think it's time to for some firing exercises. I'll help you now, but in the future I expect you all to be coming down here to practice yourself. I've already taught you all the technique, so all you need is to practice it."

You then walk over the selection of weapons.

"Okay, we'll just be starting with the basics and practicing with pistols." You say, pulling out a handgun from the rack. They were the one weapon you WEREN'T short on. However, these were basic 9mm pistols. Accurate and large ammo capacity, but they lacked the stopping power heavier pistols had.

"Okay, Rochelle, you're up first." You say. You figure she had the most experience with this sort of thing so it was best to start off with a good impression.

Rochelle nods and puts in earplugs, picks up the pistol. slides in the magazine, and takes aim.

No, we need to make it more extreme.

Sometimes you may be in a situation where it might be a bad idea to use it, or it just might be raining. Also our enemies might become smart and find ways around your electricity. Either way, I need you to be able to defend yourself at all times.

is this based on /tg/'s dice algorithm as a whole or just what's been rolled in the threads?

Based on Java's math.random() method. I've heard rumors that /tg/'s dice system stilts towards crits, but I've never seen any confirmation that that is indeed the case, and not just people thinking "oh, we get crits all the time" without actually doing the statistical tests to figure that out.
>>
>>29617537
Hmm, maybe
>>
>>29617304
"Well, Cole, the fact of the matter is that there will be situations where your lightning wouldn't be idea to use, or you won't be able to use it at all." You frown. "What happens if you got wet? Or are in a place with a lot of metal that will ground your shots? Knowing how to use a gun will be mighty useful then."

"Alright, fine." Cole sighs as she stands up and picks up the pistol. You know she hadn't been paying full attention in the previous sessions because you're still pointing out little things like her not making sure the safety is on and practicing proper trigger discipline.

"Such a pain..." Cole sighs.

>Roll 1d20
>>
>>29617570
The common claim is that /tg/ dice use either a time or postnumber based seed in such a way that rolls made in rapid succession tend to be close together and often trend towards high or low.

To my knowledge no one has actually looked at a large sample of rolls statistically to see whether it's just confirmation bias.

the number seed is based off of post time, so it likes to clump results together more than a true random # generator, so if you get a crit, you get more crits or at least #s closer to crits

Depends on what part of the post time is pulled. If it's taken out of the microseconds part of the post time, it's highly unlikely that one will see any clumping. In any case, that distribution should still be approximately valid.

Unsurprisingly, Cole's shooting is pretty sloppy, with most of her shots not even being near the center or having any consistent grouping. However, at least all of her bullets managed to the hit the target, which was something.

"Well.... you need some work, Cole, but good job." You say.

"Yeah, well, I'm still more comfortable with my natural skills." Cole rolls her eyes, unconvinced.

Jenner then pokes her head head though the door.

"Producer, your package is here."

Package? You don't remember ordering any-

Oh.

Damn, that guy works fast.

"Come on girls, I'm gonna show you something." You say. You also call Rin to meet you in the armory.

"What's this all about, Producer?" Rin asks as she meets you in the armory, still wearing a simple shirt and shorts. She had obviously been in the middle of practice.

"Oh, I just wanted to show you all the newest member of the team." You say as you crack open the newly arrived crate.

"Ohmygod it's an actual Cyber Hound!" Rochelle squeals.

"Nice!" Julie bends down to inspect the robot. "I remember seeing these on TV! Chasing down perps like a boss!"

"I guess it's... kinda cute?" Rin shrugs.

"Just a dumb tin can with legs." Cole grumps.

Laughing, you bend down and pick up the control pad that was wired to the Cyber Hound and hit the activation key. You've worked with them before, but they were treated as equipment, so nobody was allowed to personally own them.

You touch another key and the Cyber Hound's eyes snap open and begin to glow and it stands up on all fours with a whirr of electronic motors and servos before standing still again.

"AWAITING ORDERS." It buzzes.

"So, do any of you want it?" You ask. Cyber Hounds tended to work best with dedicated partners, considering behavior-wise, the designers tried to have them mimic real dogs as close as possible.

"I'd like to request the responsibility of caring and maintaining it, sir!" Rochelle says, barely able to contain her enthusiasm.

"I'd like it as well." Julie grins. "We could like, totally be partners and fight crime together!"

"Eh, I don't need a dog, especially a robot one, to look after me." Cole shakes her head.

"Erm, maybe?" Rin shrugs.

You check the control pad again and see an option you've never seen before. Must be a new feature for the Mk3.

>Welcome, new user, to the Cyber Hound mk3 startup guide!

It's doesn't have to be boobplate, just fashionable. I was just using it as a reference. But even a stylized, less effective power armor is still a really useful asset. And we can switch out to the practical suit on non-stage performance missions.

"AFFIRMATIVE. THIS UNIT IS NOW DESIGNATED K-ZWOLF." The Cyber Hound rumbles.

"Sweet!" Rochelle grins as she knees in front of K-Zwolf. "Can you sit and roll over? Shake hands?"

"I AM PROGRAMMED WITH ALL BASIC COMMANDS."

"Gotta do something about that voice, though. Can't you lower the volume?" Rochelle frowns.

"I HAVE FIVE HUNDRED DIFFERENT VOICES PRE-PROGRAMMED."

"Sweet."

As Rochelle bonds with her new companion, you see that there's more stuff inside the crate and you reach down, pulling out another manual.

>The Cyber Hound mk3 has a modular construction, so you can adapt it for any kind of use! Included this package are the HEAVY SUPPORT, CLOSE COMBAT, CLOSE PROTECTION, and RECONNAISSANCE modification kits!

Huh, that's interesting.

The installation of the Reconnaissance pack is fairly easy, and soon enough K-Zwolf has a much sleeker look. In addition, its tail has an optic at the end and has additional acoustic and motion sensors packed into it. Not to mention the top of the line optic camouflage. Not exactly well armed, but you know from experience that Cyber Hounds had a very vicious bite.

"Okay girls, I think we're ready for our first mission!" You say. "Let's get your gear and we'll move out as soon as we're ready!"

"Wait, sir?" Rochelle raises her hand. "How exactly are we going to deal with these bandits?"

"We're just going to rough them up. Scare them a bit." You assure her. "Lethal force will only be a last resort."

"Aw, that's no fun." Cole groans.

"Hey, it's more fun that way." Julie grins and cracks her knuckles. "Usually a wrongdoer learns the errors of his ways after a beating or two."

"Okay, Jenner will be driving you to the mall. I'll keep an eye on you from the office. Rochelle, you've got tactical command, alright?"

"Yes sir!"

"Great, the girl scout is in charge." Cole rolls her eyes.

"This 'Girl Scout' is going to make sure you don't get yourself killed." Rochelle retorts.

"Whatever."

Well, this was already off to a great start.

"Focus, girls. This is the real thing. I need you all to be on your A-game."

With that, the girls suit up and pile into the van. Meanwhile, you head back to your office and boot up the Harbinger CIC system. Immediately, several screens flicker to life and you can see four viewpoints. One from each of the girls and one from K-Zwolf. You also see a display for their vital signs as well. Pretty nifty stuff.

The trip is rather uneventful, with the girls just talking about the best ways to beat up a guy. Rochelle of course advocates taking him down with the minimum amount of effort, while Julie and Cole were a bit more... sadistic in their tastes.

(cont)
>>
>>29620727
Recon is easy.

1. Park around corner from mall, or go to mall early and hide inside
2. Deploy stealth mutt
3. INTELLIGENCE!

It's literally that simple.
>>
>>29620766

Finally, the van reaches the mall. At this hour, it's already well past closing, and the area is darkened, with most of the lighting turned off since it wasn't in use. In the gloom, you could see the silhouettes of various figures.

"K-Zwolf. Scout!" Rochelle commands.

"Affirmed. Scouting the area." The robot hound buzzes as it leaps out the back of the van, its optic camo causing it to shimmer into nothingness.

The next fifteen minutes is spent watching K-Zwolf skulk around the mall parking lot as it individually tags every delinquent it can see and marks it on the tactical map. Looking at it, you're estimating about twenty individuals, split up across three different areas around the mall.

Things seem to go well at first. K-Zwolf manages to take down its target swiftly with a powerful tackle, its mass and speed more than enough to knock the delinquent out.

Cole also manages to get a good hit on her target, connecting against his face with a well aimed right hook, causing him to reel back. However, he's not quite down just yet.

Unfortunately, the other delinquents seem far more alert. Rochelle tries to strike her target with her nightstick, but the delinquent is faster hits Rochelle square in the gut with a steel pipe. Her tactical vest seems to absorb most of the impact, but the blow still causes her to fall to her knees, but a followup blow to her back sends her sprawling to the ground.

Meanwhile, Julie is getting teamed up 2 vs 1, with one of the delinquents grappling her from behind with the other using her as a literal punching bag.

"WARNING, FRIENDLY FORCES IN DANGER." K-Zwolf whines. "REQUESTING TARGET PRIORITY."

Meanwhile, Julie tries to get back up but her attacker raises his pipe above his head, reading for the finishing blow. He swings down, until the pipe suddenly stops in midair with a metallic CLANG. The air front of the delinquent them shimmers, revealing K-Zwolf standing protectively over its master.

Cole meanwhile does waste any time and just zaps the delinquent that had been grappling Julie. One bright flash and the guy is down on the ground, thin wisps of smoke rising from his body.

K-Zwolf lunges forward again, this time managing to tackle the delinquent and pin him against the wall. The delinquent screeches and tries to fight K-Zwolf off with his pipe, but the weapon just ineffectually bounces off its armored shell.

Good advantages, good fallbacks. The biggest issue here was the situation was horrible here. Non-lethal? No problem! Rubber bullets at range, night sticks and tasers at melee. Did we have any? No.

Did we do any of this? No.

The delinquent doesn't say a word and just nods rather rapidly.

"Good. Nice to see that some people can understand things just fine." Cole nods before giving the delinquent a non-electrified punch to the gut.

"J-just who the hell are you people?" The delinquent wheezes.

"I believe I'll answer that." Julie says. Rochelle at this point has regained consciousness and is sitting on the pavement trying to recuperate. She whispers something into Julie's ear and Julie nods before walking up to the pinned delinquent and giving him two punches in the gut. "One for me and one for my friend there."

The delinquent coughs and groans.

"Also, my friend would also like to tell you this." Julie leans in so that her mouth is right next to the delinquent's ear and she whispers, "Tunnel Snakes rule."

With that, K-Zwolf lets go of the delinquent and he stumbles away as fast as he can. K-Zwolf then cloaks and tails him. The other delinquents, seeing the state their comrade was in and how he was babbling about how the Tunnel Snakes were a bunch a psychopaths that beat the crap out of him, decide to pack up and leave, scattering into the darkness.

"Huh, I didn't think that would work." You frown. "Anyways, we'll keep a close eye out to see if they come back. You did a good job girls. A bit rough, but we'll sort that out. Get back to the van."

"What about these assholes?" Julie points to the downed delinquents.

"Eh, they'll be fine, I guess." You shrug.

The van ride back is rather quiet. Sure, today was a win, but it was hard earned one. Rochelle still doesn't look to be in good shape, with Julie and K-Zwolf staying close to her. Cole tries to pretend not to care, but from your video feed you can see her occasionally glancing back at them.

Finally, the van returns to the office, and you go down to meet them.

>>29622520
Well, you didn't want to be too hard on the girls, but you knew that you couldn't just give them empty praise either, so you decide for a sort of middle of the road approach.

"You did a good job out there, girls." You say as they exit the van and assemble. "I know the mission didn't exactly turn out as planned, and some of you got a bit roughed up, but that just goes to show that we all need a bit more practice and training. But we'll worry about what went right and wrong later. Rochelle, Julie, you should go to the infirmary and get yourselves checked out. I know the AutoDoc isn't exactly cutting edge, but it should be enough.

"Yes sir." Rochelle salutes weakly as Julie helps her walk. K-Wolf follows close behind.

"And Cole, you did a real good job out there." You say. "If you can apply yourself, you'd be one really scary fighter."

"Yeah, whatever." Cole shrugs, but you see her turn away to try and hide her grin. "I'll be in my room if you need me."

With that, you're alone. Well, not completely alone.

"Jeez, does it get any easier?" You sigh as Jenner exits the van's driver seat.

"Unfortunately, no." Jenner say as she takes position next to you. "A fully trained idol team would've torn those delinquents apart without blinking an eye. You're certainly right. They did do a good job, but they still have a lot to learn."

"I suppose." You sigh. "How's Rin bee doing, by the way?"

"She's progressing pretty well." Jenner responds. "Ushiyama is actually quite impressed with how hard she works, but don't ever tell her he said that."

"I see." You nod.

"Well, we should go get a set list arranged." You say.

"It shouldn't be too hard." Jenner nods. "For a mall performance, you'll just be performing the same song a few times throughout the day. You'll really only need to have one song, but I think you can have up to three max."

"I'll keep that in mind." You say as you enter the studio.

Inside, you see Ushiyama and David in a rather deep discussion. No doubt about work.

"Ah, Producer, how fortuitous." David says as he sees you approach. "We are in quite a bit of a dilemma."

"I think David's songs are far too slow. They're not lively enough!" Ushiyama grunts. "Without a good dance, there would be nothing to catch the audience's eye!"

"As I have said before, I have taken into account our idols' relative experience and determined that we need to use slower songs in order to ease them into the performance." David says adamantly. "They won't be able to keep up if we go too fast."

As much as I hate to interfere with the creative process, David is right. Also, some of our girls got injured today, so we may have to take it slow. Also, I'm brainstorming ideas of a military themed idol group, so dances tailored to combat armor may be necessary in the future.

After Ushiyama leaves, David turns to you, his face still an emotionless mask.

"I must thank you, Producer. However, while I agree with your thinking, I do sympathize with Ushiyama's concerns. If you will allow me, I can make one of the songs slightly more... advanced."

"So... is this what it's going to be like, Jenner?" You sigh. "Little girls beating each other up? I don't think I'll ever get used to that."

"Well, hopefully it won't come to that." Jenner sighs herself. "But idol groups like trying to sabotage one another, and if we ever make it to the big leagues,we'll be making ourselves a target."

"So, if these idol wars are so vicious, how come I haven't heard of idols dying left and right?" You ask.

"Well, usually the fighting idols are the no names, so they won't be missed if they were to suddenly disappear." Jenner shrugs. "But believe it or not, there are 'unwritten' rules to the whole business. One of them is that it's bad form to go out and assassinate an idol. Harass and humiliate them, sure, but you don't go out and kill one unless you're absolutely sure you can get away with it."

"And why's that?" You ask

"Because it's bad for business. Doing that puts a target on yourself. So, normally nobody tries to go for an idol during sanctioned events."

"Sanctioned events?" You blink.

"You know, stuff like concerts. Anything scheduled ahead of time in an official venue is sort of protected, though it doesn't stop other idols from trying to mess you up."

"And what are unsanctioned events?"

(cont)
>>
>>29623360
"Usually stuff like secret or guerrilla concerts. Idol companies take their turf very seriously. You need fans to stay in business, after all. Since these events are unsanctioned, everything becomes no holds barred. Anything goes."

Basically it's just an idol group running a surprise concert in another idol group's turf to try and steal fans.
>>
>>29623367
See ya later Merc!

I still think we need to get the girls a bodyguard of some sort. They're too inexperienced to be running around unsupported.
>>
>>29623427
No, we need Jenner to run the command console and we need to be out in the field.
>>
>>29623454
I don't know why we didn't go with guy idols.

Would be way easier to idol-commando with teenage girls as fans.
>>
>>29623454
Does Jenner have the training for that? If so I'm all for it, but from what I can tell she doesn't have any experience leading troops in combat
>>
>>29623474
P-San's running shit from the field, yo, Jenner's manning the console for the larger-picture.

But P-San has augmetic eyes, doesn't he? So he can probably jack into the Harbinger CIC and have it displayed as a HUD while he does his field-management shit.

The inevitable end to guydol management quest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8GD5dPjLZ0
>>
>>29623492
I was expecting the scene from Inglorious Basterds where everyone does, all at once, violently.
>>
>>29623469
Hmm, that's a very interesting loophole. What if we became an combat idol...

>>29623474
>>29623485
We'll be leading from the field, like what we're trained to do. We just need Jenner as mission control, to be our eyes on the field.

>>29623485
Good point, we should be able to network this
>>
>>29623485
I'm not sure if it's possible for us to adequately lead the girls and engage in combat at the same time. There's a reason commanders lead from the rear.
>>
>>29623524
You do realize there's different levels of command.
>>
>>29623524
...but

uh.

They don't?

Officers are logistics and management, not actual battlefield leadership. The people who actually lead people into getting shot by terrorists in Afghanistan are sergeants of all sorts of ranks and stripes.

Combat pilots are officers so they don't quite fit into it, but for ground forces, yeah, it's all sergeants doing the actual work.

Surely you're not so naive, ignorant, or just uneducated that you don't understand that?
>>
>>29623524
Patton lead from the field, Eisenhower from the office. Both are different, but absolutely necessary.

We need to be on the field to be able to intervene at a moment's notice. We need Jenner to be our eyes and ears and keep a cool head.
>>
>>29623534
I do. Having Jenner screaming in our ear while we're trying to engage isn't going to help our situational awareness, and having some punk swipe an iron bar across our face could make it rather tricky to keep making calm and logical command decisions
>>
Just to let you know, it's considered bad form for a Producer to get his hands dirty.
>>
>>29623600
How bad of bad form?

On a scale of killing hookers at a truck stop to interrupting someone's Grammy speech.
>>
>>29623600
We're switching jobs. Jenner is now the main producer. We are now a freelancer security specialist, independent consulting producer. If we happen to be in the area where idols are operating, what a coincidence. Practically speaking, we're doing the same job. Technically, the corporation is no longer liable for the actions of independent freelancers that don't have a moonlighting clause in their contract.
>>
>>29623630
>>29623638
I'm just gonna translate this from GM speak: No, you're not doing this.
>>
>>29623672
Did you lose your tag merc?
>>
>>29623680
Nope, I'm not Merc. But I've known enough GMs to realize that "it would be bad form" means "there is no was in fucking hell I am letting you do this". GMs are polite creatures, but you do not disregard their suggestions
>>
>>29623739
I understand what you are saying, however, one does not get ahead in the idol business by playing by the rules. Creative thinking is an asset.
>>
>>29623779
You're messing with the basic idea of the quest. This is a management sim, not a realm for us to go play commando. Otherwise, why even have combat idols at all?
>>
>>29623779
Now you're just grasping at straws to justify the fact that you want to jerk the direction of the quest into something completely different. It's idol management, and the idols just happen to also fight stuff, its not about us going commando. I'm not sure what about this you aren't getting but it's starting to get annoying.

Easy, slappy mcslapperton.

He's just one of the generic /tg/ powergaming goblins. Don't herniate yourself(elves) getting all worked up about it because someone else has a different opinion.
