Our Previous Episode:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/25742875/

Your codename, your only name, is Delta Phoenix. You were a ghost of the Terran Dominion until the recent fall of Korhal and death of Emperor Mengsk gave you back your free will. Now, on the fringes of Dominion space, you have gone rogue.

After finishing your last mission and killing Councilman Migar on Umoja, you escaped with Dominion Dissidents and defected Umojan security forces on a Hercules-class transport, as well as your fellow rogue dominion marine, Corporal Jacob Henderson.

Your first stop was a Dominion research station in orbit over Jungle World XTYU003, a remnant of the Brood Wars, where you accidentally activated a rogue A.I. You stopped the menace, and began mining operations. Planetside you met a Protoss Dark Templar, who gave you a cryptic message that you would meet again.

Your current primary objective is to travel to the defunct Gorgon-Class Battlecruiser Hydron, in orbit over a zerg-occupied urban world: Jestos. In order to do this, you have to increase your military operations.

Your marines and Corporal Henderson are planetside on the urban world of Tarento, recruiting anti-Dominion civilians to join your crew. You were attempting to steal schematics for the CMC-660 and perdition flamethrower from the Diablos Locos pirate gang, on an orbiting abandoned defense platform.

After you acquired the schematics you attempted to escape by breaching the hull of the orbital platform. You destroyed three firebats trying to incinerate you, and the resulting explosion rocketed you into space. The blast caused you to lose conciousness as you saw the rescue dropship en route.

You begin to regain conciousness...

>"Come on! You're going to be late to school, sweetie!"
>"I don't want to go, mum. The other kids make fun of me."
>"Everybody has to go to school, just don't listen to them."
>"But they think I'm weird!"

A sharp pain brings you out of that memory. You don't know if it was yours or if you were reading the mind of the woman in front of you while unconcious. She's obviously not one of yours. Red hair hangs long down one side of her face, the other side shaven down. Old-Earth runes for the number 13 are tattooed into one cheek. She has CMC gauntlets over her hands but otherwise appears to be in civilian clothes. You feel your lower lip bleeding and can see blood on her right hand CMC gauntlet.

>"Hoooola senorita. I hear you caused us quite a problem, yeah? You just thought you could walk in here and start shooting?"

It appears that you've been captured by the Diablos Locos prior to extraction. Your Cirus suit has been removed, and you are currently tied to piping overhead via chains. Fortunately your implants remain intact and you appear relative unharmed. Internal clocks read that you have been unconcious for 1 hour, 24 minutes, 17 seconds. It is likely that your crew knows you have been captured and will mount a rescue operation. Casualties can be expected if Corporal Henderson did not manage to recruit additional marines.

>"What's the matter, corazon? You don't like to talk? That's okay. I know how to get what I want. And right now, I want to know who you are, and why you were here, yeah?"

She rubs one CMC gauntlet over the other in what is likely meant to be an intimidating gesture. Although a crude form of interrogation, you know full well that a CMC can easily break your bones and lower your combat effectiveness. You need to stall for time or attempt to escape.

>Use psionics, attempt to gain emotional leverage over your interrogator.
>Lie about purpose, tell her Dominion sent you, give false information.
>Attempt escape. Use free legs to snap her neck.

>Registering Consensus.

You delve into her mind. Recent memories, then farther back. Her motives, her reason for joining this mercenary outfit, her family.

As you delve in you realize that you would've been executed outright, except for the fact that one of the gangsters you killed - you clearly recall it as the one you knifed on the ground - was romantically involved with her. She specifically requested this interrogation.

Your telepathy also reveals that while you are alone in this room with her, there are two armed guards outside of this room, where your equipment is located.

You decide to focus on her motivations. She had a stim addiction and stole from her parents, who disowned her when they found out. She sought refuge with the Diablos Locos, using her training as a Dominion pilot.

You sense that she is not very fond of the gang, and simply joined them alongside her lover who had fed her addiction for so long.

You speak first.
>"Wait, you don't have to do this, Mia."
>"How - How do you know my name!?"

Your interrogator is angered by this, approaching closer.

>"I'm a ghost. I know everything about you. I know why you did it."
>"Did what?! I didn't do anything!"

Her stance changes from anger to fear. Despite the immediate comfort this brings you, you realize you are still very much in danger.

>"I don't know if they would forgive you, they don't seem the type. But I would. It's not too late to leave this place. You can join me. I can use a pilot like you."
>"Yeah? Like I can trust you, after you killed the only person who mattered to me!?"

You dig deeper, looking for your next move. Recently her boyfriend had become more abusive, his own addiction and rising rank within the organization had caused him to become more violent.

>"He wasn't the man you knew. That man was gone. He was just a parasite, he was just using you. You deserve better. I am sorry I killed him, but I did you a favor."
>"You- You! I can't - "

You can't tell if she's angry with you or herself. Tears start to form as she holds her gauntlets at her side.

>"I can't go back to the Dominion, either."
>"I'm not Dominion. I've gone rogue. I am free. You can be, too."

She seems to be considering your proposal.

>She has lowered her guard. Kill her silently.
>Continue to attempt to have her join your crew.
>Lie to her, have her escort you out of the base under the pretense of joining your crew, then kill her.

Note: There is a 74% likelihood she will attempt to reconnect with the Diablos Locos if her morale is low, should she join your crew.

We'll have to ween her off the stim addiction, but I imagine a ghost is more than capable of giving a horrific story of similar wrongs being done to them.

we could use her. And a period in the resoc tube could cure her of that addiction.

will Resoc deal with the withdrawal problems? We should still try to snag some stims on the way out just to be sure we have them available to help her break the addiction if needed.

>"You can have a better life, Mia. You can get away from all this. I know you don't want to stay here. I spent my entire life doing terrible things for the Dominion, but now I'm free."

She looks at you, her face changing from sadness to determination.

>"Wait here."

You're not sure what you're waiting for, and hope you didn't make the wrong decision. She steps out of the room. You hear brief talking, then loud snaps. She walks back into the room, your Cirus suit in one hand, C-10 rifle in the other.

>"We don't have very long. We'll have to make it to the raider's bay, there are ships there."
>"I need to do one thing, first."

You bring up your communication transponder on your HUD, and hail the ship.

>"Dark Phoenix to Hercules."
>"Well there you are, boss! Me an' Valero were juuuust about to go blow up a whole mess o' Banditos lookin' fer you. Did you make it out?"
>"I am en route. I will signal you once I have acquired a vessel and can dock with the Hercules. I have one additional recruit with me."
>"A new friend! I'll put out the fancy China then, boss."

Between your stealth suit and Mia's element of surprise, you have no trouble dispatching anything between you and the landing bay. You have several ship options available.

>1 Valkyrie. 4-person capacity. Air-To-Air missles.

You missed your last stint in a Valkyrie, and have no intention of leaving any possible assets go to waste.

>"Mia, take one of the Wraiths. I'm taking the Frigate."

She heads off, you recognize the wraith from her memory, it was hers originally. She takes off out of the bay first. You turn around as soon as you're clear and blast the remaining ships apart. Although it's a tiny fraction of the gang's overall fleet, you feel better in doing so.

You return the Hercules, now with 2 more ships at your disposal, and an experienced wraith pilot.

Also, drop ship. We can't do everything alone and an armed boat to shuttle in troops will be useful, lest we lose our ground team to stupid shit one day.

Valkyrie is only useful now and the wraith can't cloak.

Gotta wonder why the Valkyrie is so small though, it's a frigate right? I would at least expect a crew in the double digits.

>>25765293
I think by allowing her to retrieve her own ship we managed to stave off a morale problem... but put her in resoc for her addiction anyway.

Lets begin training some firebats and a couple more marines while Delta Phoenix goes on that assassination mission.
>>
>>25765254

While I agree to the pilot's flaws, she is also Dominion-trained and boasts some level of experience from that.

And beggars can't be choosers. We lack a pilot and just stole two craft with her help, we didn't blow up her family completing our last mission, and we can put her flaws to use for us.

She very well could end up being turned into our most loyal follower.

>>25765324
>trian firebats
Just cross train all of our marines. We only have so many people, fuck specialization.

If we DO get more volunteers, they get cross trained too, lest we get stuck with firebats in the open field, or not enough fire in a corridor.

We can afford to produce the extra suits easily in the short term.

We may wish to hunt for a goliath pilot or two as well. Fast movign, armored vehicles woudl make for good backup if one of our solo missions on a planet goes wrong, and goliaths make for good base security as well with their mix of armamaments.

Just use the pilots to run SCVS or guard the dropship until we can build walkers.
>>
>>25765358
This. I don't want our trained pilot freaking out on a mission because of withdrawal.
>>
>>25765359

And that's still rather small, the modern Arleigh Burke class holds about 275 people, though obviously things would be different because of different requirements and techbase.
>>
>>25765397
Well what exactly will our army's focus be? Since we're a ghost we need professionals who can shore up our weaknesses and enchance our strengths. How about a flight of reapers?
>>
>>25765377
since we have new people and are in a semi-public place we should do a big morale thing, before we go off to horrible places unknown. spend some credits buying premium food or somesuch, let them have a party. keep ourselves out of it, 'captains distance' lets the men think we are inviceable.

also, tell mia to not inform anyone we are a girl let them see us a a ghost only.
>>
Your first priority is Mia's addiction. Your marines, Henderson, Valero, and Jenkins, meet you onboard your barracks, in orbit over the planet.

>"What, are you going to train me to be a marine now, too? I don't do boarding actions."
>"Not quite. We don't exactly have access to stim-packs, and I can't have you do something... dangerous."

Mia doesn't object verbally, but you can read her thoughts. She resents you, thinks you're judgmental, and slightly regrets her decision.

You have cured her addiction, but she has taken a hit to her morale.

We should take what we can find, frankly. That being said, sustainability is also important. IE, no point at all in shit we can't produce and won't be using, and we shouldnt' even be buildign an "army" yet.

We're building a boarding team and crew to man a single ship and a couple of escorts, and need to focus on versatility, so shit like say, siege tanks? Right out. The goliath gets my vote for being a reliable vehicle that cna engage any target, firebtas help with our immediate goal, marines are versatile as shit, ect.

So, some points
-we can always attempt to use stealth
-reactors only have so much power
-we may need to be extracted
Therefore, speed is important in our forces. Get in and get out. Next time we get caught, ti may be a marine stimmed out the ass and unable to be influenced in full armor "interrogating" us. fuck waiting.

-We only have so many people, this isn't the rts
So, again: speed. We cannot stick around and lose men.
versatile. If it can do two things, we want it. We want to get our men proficient in numerous things when feaasible. Similar things, mind you.

Marines=firebats.
Junkie bitch should learn to fly the valkryie.

As for the future, we have four ships now, two arme,d and are looking at a gorgon.

Let's try for more and more air-space dominance. No gettign stuck in on the ground if we can avoid it, be roving mercs with a capable enough fleet to fight off pursuit. Keep moving so we don't get hunted down, kill what catches us, use armed dropships or modified valkryies so we can launch FAST raids and strikes, either as the entire mission, or to insert reinforcements if we fight a real pitched battle for some godawful reason.

And also for evac, because FUCK dying to death.

we also need ships to ensure we don't get stranded by a handful of wraiths one day.
So yeah, get reapers, if they fit the parameter of "be fast and useful" or "fulfills short term goals at reasonable cost"

So, we seem to be fairly mixed on what we want to do.

Some want to head for that battlecruiser immediately.

I love this, but I'm worried that we'll only have a single chance to get in and recover that ship before zerg overwhelm us. If we don't have enough resources to repair it to flight status and GTFO, we might lose it for good.

That said, I think this needs to be our primary objective in the near future.
How do we ensure we're ready to get in there, clear it of any zerg or other hostiles, are -certain- we have the resources to repair the ship, and get out of there all in a single go?

The alternative would be a stealth mission to recon the battlecruiser and find out what we'll need, but I don't see the resources we'd likely need for that sort of mission.

I suggested going to mine more resources from the volcanic planet for such an occasion.

Achieving current consensus. Please vote:

>Assign Carol and Dave to Valkyrie duty.
>Assign Red to Marine Duty. (Will require additional CMC, -50 minerals.)
>Construct CMC-660's with Perdition Flamethrowers, but do not train additional marines to pilot the firebats. (-100 Minerals, -25 Gas per firebat suit. We do not yet have a tech lab.)
>Assign Marines to Stimpack Smuggling mission (+10,000 credits.)
>Assign Delta Phoenix to Assassination mission (+15,000 credits.)

Recommendation: We have many idle civilians. Conserving them is a supply strain for no reason.

Note: We lack proper supplies. We can construct a supply depot on the platform (potentially we can sell it to local gangs or salvage it after we leave the system.), we can purchase supplies planetside, we can allow morale to drop for now.

Perhaps back to where we were, it was safe enough.

After THAT, we need to start findign specialists- namely, ex dominion or even UED ships crews and technicians so we can crew the fucker.

Otherwise, we'll fix it and be limping around in a working but defenseless battle cruiser. Hello, pirates. And Dominion, because they'd love a free cruiser. When we go, it MUST be in one fell fucking swoop. Grab it, , get the guns up and everything running all at once, jump out.

My employers the Black Moon Consortium, thank you for accepting this contract and wish you the best of luck. Your target, Helena Snow, must be eliminated. She is the sector leader of the Rosemary's Angels.

They are a mercenary group operating out of New Jamesson's financial district. They are a professional mercenary outfit, so while these are their financial offices, you can still expect a very secure guard force.

Sensors will be located at the lobby entry and most floors. Anti-aircraft emplacements are located on the roof. There are no connecting towers to other offices.

This cannot be traced back to my employers. If you fail, you are on your own. If you succeed we will have additional contracts available.

Good luck.

>Schematics uploaded, determining points of entry...

>Enter through front door, pose as civilian. You will have no equipment for the mission. (Low risk, able to get up multiple floors without security clearance)

The Black Moon Consortium is a smuggling operation. They mostly rely on mercenaries for defense. They typically smuggle illicit substances, small arms, and alien artifacts.

The Rosemary's Angel's are a mercenary outfit specializing in infantry operations. They are typically armed with CMCs, Bayonet-Affixed C-14s, and have a technological advantage. Intel indicates that they have a Banshee operating nearby.

>>25765979

I wonder if it is possible to have 'civilians' be sort of 'minute men'? train them as SCV pilots, but give them some level of marine training as well? In the long-term, it may well be possible to have reserve SCVs and CMC suits to have them choose their deployment option at the start of each mission.

We need to get in and strip a location of minerals/gas? to the SCVs!
We need some extra firepower to augment our marines? armor up and provide supporting fire!
>>

I was asking if we could snipe the sensor network from the building, but I imagine we can't after that response.

Hmm... do we have enough intel on the building to know if we could kill/incapacitate a civilian and set them up to have an 'accident' that involves some sort of car/transport plowing into that security office?

You decide to eliminate the security center on your way up, making your job easier - should you succeed. The elevator takes you straight to the checkpoint. On the way up, you stop at a random floor, and have to stealth next to a scientist. Then an engineer. They both leave first, heading for the checkpoint to the rest of the building. You step out and evaluate your situation. It won't be long before they pick you up on sensors.

I agree on the grenade. EMPing any sensors in the area may be worth it if it means that our location will be compromised, it'll let us Stealth and change cover for a better firing angle if they don't know where we are or if we moved.

In addition we have night vision, if it's practical to take out some lights that'd be good.

If we can imitate the voice of civilians once we've started we can pretend that we have a hostage once we're behind cover, that can buy us some breathing room.

You're taken into what is clearly an interrogation room. The marines set you in a single steel chair behind a steel table. There is a mirror to one side, no doubt it's a 1-way mirror. They remove your equipment- your helmet, grenades, sidearm, wrist-mounted computer and blade are all gone. You only have a Cirus suit that can't even stealth you.

The marines leave you. Minutes pass. Tens of minutes. You try to move your broken fingers, but the pain immediately stops you.

Eventually the door to the room opens, a woman in a hostile environment suit lined with psionic dampeners steps through, escorted by 2 marines. You sense it immediately. She's also psionic.

>"I won't bother trying to read your mind. Your equipment is clearly Dominion. This is about that shipment, isn't it? Should guard your toys better if you don't want them falling into the... wrong hands."

You wait a few minutes, not wanting to deal with the additional marines, before you stand up, pick up the chair, and hurl it through the window. The legs of the chair pin the marine to the wall and he gurgles in pain. An alarm sounds, likely tied to the window you just broke. You step through the window and snap his neck, then take his P-38 Sidearm.

You make for the medical kit. In a few seconds you've removed the gauss needles and stopped the bleeding. Your fingers remain broken, and will impair your aim for now.

You can't do much of anything without your equipment. You make your way out of the observation room and into the storage lockers. There are dozens. Using the pistol you begin to shoot off locks.

Empty C-14 rifles, pictures of families, used stimpacks, combat boots... You finally find the one with your equipment. You don your helmet, mount your knife, grab your rifle, and activate your stealth reactor just as the marines enter the room and dart right past you.

You make for the penthouse. It seems they made the mistake of taking you to the final security checkpoint. Now that you're past it there are no sensors to read you. You leave no guard alive as you move forward, the CMC suits providing no defense against your rifle and wrist-mounted combat blade. Finally you reach the highest office, your target is nowhere to be found. You are about to signal the Hercules for a scan when suddenly:

>"I like your effort, Boogieman! Shame you didnt' stay put. I could've used someone like you!"

The voice blares over a loudspeaker, you know immediately what you're dealing with. You need to go to the roof. As you turn for the stairs up the office behind you is incinerated by Backlash rockets. Debris sails past you.

You reach the roof, the sky looks clear. And then you see it, a brief shimmer of light just past the edge of the roof.

You race towards the banshee. As you do the target sees you and begins to raise altitude. You make the jump. Time seems to come to a standstill as you move towards the invisible banshee. You crash against the cockpit. Unable to properly see you move your hand around until you find the glass, then punch through.

You take the target by the throat, and can hear her gag as you pull her out of the front of the cockpit by her neck. The banshee buckles, devoid of a pilot, and begins to spin towards the ground. You release your grip on the target, letting her freefall into one of the Banshee's propellers. ghost chunks splatter the side of the building. You slide into the cockpit, take the throttle, and regain control.

Mining locations by order of risk:

>Volcanic World HA002: Old zerg hive world. Nuked out years ago during the Brood Wars. Heavy in minerals, vespene gas, and geothermal energy.

>Desert World JD001: Dominion heavy Mining Operations on planet.

>Jungle World XTYU003: Edge of Protoss space. Ruins on planet. Abandoned weapons research station in orbit.

By the way Adjutant what model is armor? As in are we stuck with pre brood war or after? Also is there any chances we can get a hold of UED plasma throwers so we don't have to worry about our firebats exploding? At least until we get the new heavy variants.

You step out from the Hercules transport. Your ships are docked at a relatively safe port planetside. Dale hasn't been answering hails, so you assume he's drunk with the rest of the civilians. Your suitboard Adjutant suggests Dale was last seen at the spaceport bar, so that's where you're headed.

You enter the bar. It has a bit of rustic charm, in that run-down, piss-poor kind of way. There are several tables, a wooden bar, and the ceiling is standard sheet-metal and beams with a single large, slow-moving fan.

The bartender is currently absent, but one man sits in a dark far corner with a glass of what your sensors pick up to be some combination of dropship fuel and soda.

>"Are you Dale Brunstone?"
>"I am. And you're our resident ghost."

The man looks up to you. His hair is long and unshaven. He squints at you, the right side of his face scarred and his right eye replaced with an optical implant.

>"And you're here because you need marines, I bet. Everyone needs marines."

The man shakes his head, taking another drink from the gooey black liquid that seems to qualify as a drink.

>"And you're here because I've probably killed more Zerg than you can count. I even went toe-to-toe with an Ultralisk once. But a D-8 charge right down his throat."

He looks up at you before finishing.

>"Before that defiler spewed enough acid to melt my entire squad in seconds."

The man narrows his eyes at you, perhaps not realizing you had a clear view of each memory as he relived them. You have no doubt that the man before you is a skilled anti-zerg combatant, and you have no doubt he'll be avoiding the front lines short or a full invasive Resoc.

Awaiting orders.
>...
>>
>>25769962
While resoc would probably get rid of your PTSD, I think you'd probably perform better at training any new recruits. Maybe provide group security while the away team is on duty. Or is there a job you wanted in particular?
>>

>>
>>25769962
Let him know that he will be mentally preparing the squad for touch down on the Zerg planet. Pointers, tips, facts that marines should know about taking down Zerg. Then give him the option to serve the group in a greater fashion of his choice.
>>
>>25769962
First order up a drink, and sit down with Dale.
Let him relax a bit about propositioning him to be a Marine.

Tell him that you have come here about his time as a Marine, and that his expertise is valued. After that tell him that while another body on the frontlines would be great, he'd be better as an instructor.
>>
Whatever we do, don't drink in front of our people.
>>
>>25769962
As much as having his expertise would be nice, if he's retired now, he's retired. There is absolutely no sense forcing him out of retirment only to have him go batshit later on...

However, a scan of his brain for as many anti-zerg strategies would be incredibly handy.
>>
>>25769962
I could probably get you into resoc, the fear, the hate, all gone, along with stuff that makes you, you. But I personally dislike that option. Instead how about this. THese men and women I am training do not know squat about fighting zerg and resoc training only goes so far. I want you to help me prepare them. Make it so they stand a chance. We are going to face the zerg sooner or later and I don't want to lose anyone if I can help it.
>>

This is good
>>
>>25770005
>"While resoc would probably get rid of your PTSD, I think you'd probably perform better at training any new recruits. Maybe provide group security while the away team is on duty. Or is there a job you wanted in particular?"

The man listens, before shaking his head.

>"I ain't trainin' new soldiers to line up nice and pretty before they die. The only security I'll provide is for myself."

The ex-marine pats the revolver holstered at his side.

>"I didn't want a job with you. I wanted out. Dominion boys came to resoc me when Korhal fell an' I broke their noses good as anyone. You try an' do it, I'll put a -bullet- in your nose."

You try to reason with him, albeit you feel it may be a pointless endeavor.

>"You won't be taking lives. You'll be saving them. These men and women will be marines regardless, your experience could mean the difference between them coming home in a CMC or in a box."

You watch him patiently. He thinks quietly, flashbacks of dying marines, men ripped apart from zerglings, hydralisks spewing their spines into screaming men - kids really. The regret of not keeping them alive fills your mind. You know he's made his choice well before he speaks.

>"Alright. I'll do what I can."

The Banshee, Wraith, and Dropship will be docked with the Hercules. The Valkyrie will initiate it's own jump. Once the location is secure, the command center and barracks will jump in behind us.

We are jumping into Dominion space. It is likely that a Dominion Patrol will detect us on sensors. We will need to eliminate this patrol before they radio the Dominion to our arrival.

>"Mia, cripple the ship. All marines, begin boarding actions."

You head for the dropship bay from the bridge of the Hercules. Corporal Henderson is once again armed with dual Gauss rifles and chewing vehemently on a cigar.

>"What's the word, boss? We gonna steal us a Dominion battlecruiser, right?"
>"Cargo Transport, Corporal."
>"Piracy!? And here I was thinkin' we'd be Robin-Hood forever."

By the time the cargo ship is in visual range of your dropship you can see the disabled communications tower and engines. Scans indicate it is a resource hauler. Tons of minerals and Vespene. More than you might even be able to haul with the dropship. You will need to bring the Hercules in to collect all of the resources. You hail the ship.

>"Attention crew of the D.S.S. Junkworthy. This is the commander of the boarding forces. We are only interested in your cargo and not your lives. Stand down and prepare to be boarded."

The dropship brings itself alongside the ship's bridge. The autowelders cut your way in. The firebats step out first, then the marines, then the medics, then yourself.

There are several Dominion security guards onboard. They have taken cover behind the bridge's consoles. Although you are outnumbered, they do not have combat suits and are armed with combat shotguns. So far no one has fired, but everyone has weapons raised.
