The Quest So Far:
A man named Bright Noah joins Zeon (For Reasons Yet Unexplored), and is promoted to Captain of the Musai class cruiser ‘Longfellow’ for his actions during the One Week Battle / Battle of Loum. Promoted by none other than Lord Dozle Zabi, and sent to find a rumored Experimental EFF Mobile Suit under development in Side 7, Major Bright Noah and Major Char Aznable split up, Bright taking the faster ship ‘Siegfried’ through the Loum Shoal Field, as Char takes his Musai Kai ‘Flamel’ around Side 6.
In Loum, Bright’s Zaku patrol is ambushed by the Midnight Insertion Team. Ambush failed and their ship critically wounded, Captain Brutus Sharp of the EFF Salamis ‘Nero’ surrenders to Bright, leading the Pezun technical Sergeant Christine Ask to find partial plans for the RX-78NT-1 hidden in the depths of the ‘Nero’s communications console.
The plans are sent to Lord Dozle Zabi via the Research and Development Asteroid of Pezun. President Clinton Sherk of the Riah Republic finds himself requesting military protection from Dozle’s Space Attack Force, as the discovery of the RX-78NT-1 on Riah soil upsets the fragile balance of peace between Riah and the EFF.
Major Char Aznable is ordered in to provide emergency military support to Raih, and requested to hold fast against superior numbers as the Pezun Defense Envelope is moved to protect Riah.

Quest runs from 10am, PST, until 2pm PST OR until interest peters out / I need to sleep.

The system:
See Image or the Pastebin for a detailed ruleset. pastebin.com/e3q4q0MP
That'll tell you more than you wanted to know.

Basic rules still apply (Grey Box): Roll d20: Highest dice roll out of the first three rolls is used for the Dice Check (DC), while all three rolls are averaged to determine other internal factors, if applicable. Natural 20’s and Critical Failures (1) supersede all other rolls made.

Roll d100: d100’s are used for different factors, the most applicable of which will be listed at the call for the roll. High is always better.

Rolling for Time: When asked to roll for time, the first roll response will be used, with additional rolls used as necessary. This is the only time low rolls are desired.

NewType powers, since they are plot breaking, will be based on a point system.
For every natural 20 you roll, you'll get .5 NTP. If you roll an 11 on a d20, it will be worth .25 of a NTP. Double rolls on a D100 will also garner .25 NTP.

You can exchange 1 NTP for an automatic critical success / plot breaking idea. You can also exchange 1 NTP to reduce an opposing main character's plot armor by 1/4 or 1/2 on any actions you take against them - the amount reduced will be situational, and depend on what you're planning on doing.

NTP Tally:

Bright Noah has 7 NTP!
Char Aznable has 13.5 NTP!
Amuro Ray has 2.5 NTP!

>I swear, You guys need to either use these NTP's or I'm going to need to put a cap on it / make Natural 1's count as -.5.

>LAST TIME, ON BRIGHT QUEST:

> [X] Take the Shot
Alpha Strike [18 +9 = 27 –Hit]

Clenching his teeth, Char committed himself to the shot, lining up every targeting reticule on the MA on a single spot just above the engine nacelles on the top armor plate – a small section just a bit thinner than the rest, if his memory held true.

The solution secured tone rang in his ears as Char hit the button marked ‘Alpha St.’

Twin lasers spat yellow fury into the night, as the blue glare of the Mega Particle Gun flared once, twice, and a third time, punching through the armor plating leaving gaping wounds that a stream of eight missiles tore through, detonating inside the engine compartment. A giant gout of blue green flame erupted from the rear of the ship as Char banked away to avoid AA fire from the clustered Salamis cruisers, his rear camera capturing the lights of the Magellan fading out from edge to center until not even the comm. towers blinked.

He snapped to the left, attempting to follow the PAC’s trajectory out of Field Q, and found them dodging shots from three Saberfish and a Ball unit. A quick shot from a laser emitter scattered them and the two allied ships raced for home.

Char dove sharply to avoid incoming fire from the S3's he had scared away from the retreating Publics, pulling back up into something resembling a 'Split S' maneuver. As the fighters shadowed his tail, he threw their aim off even further by using the MA's arms for AMBAC control, flailing wildly as he reoriented around the arm joints, bringing the Mega Particle Gun to bear on his pursuers. The smaller planes peeled off as the MPG fired, only to be caught in the crossfire of three black and white Zaku II's.

One of the suits casually reached out and grabbed a dorsal fin, using the Bigro's momentum to pull the Zaku out of a Ball's line of fire. "Don't worry none about these small fries," the pilot said jovially. "We've got you covered!"

"Copy that, Tri Stars," Char returned. "Focusing on the Salamis."

The Zaku spotted a purple S1 being chased by a small group of Feddie S3's and released, providing AA fire with its 120 mm machine gun as the MA pulled around for another go at the big fish.

This was easier said than done now that the EFF fighters had identified the MA as a threat and were rapidly responding. Various fighter and Ball elements peeled off from their pursuit of previous targets and re-oriented on him. Char spun the MA into a tight spiral, throwing the arms out as his erratic flight took him close to another group of white and blue S3’s. The MA’s appendages tore through the thin metal plating of several fighters, systems stating none the worse for wear due to the rough treatment as he angled in for a pass on the nearest Salamis. Yellow lances of coherent light spat forth, piercing the thinly armored missile launcher on the port side of the cruiser. His rear camera caught the secondary explosions as the launcher’s munitions exploded from the sudden exposure to heat, and Char lifted the MA up and rolled over the enemy cruiser as the two S3’s tailing him peppered the hull with Vulcan fire.

A green MS-06R1 cut between the MA and its pursuers, 120mm machine gun tearing one of the S3’s apart in a spray of flames. Char pushed the engines of the MA to their limits, and fired the MPG at the bow of the next Salamis in line before rolling under the ship and firing his lasers down the line of its belly, the remaining S3 dogging him relentlessly.
>>
>>24900963
I think we're all just wanting to save NTP for the capture and reverse engineering of the V Project. That's where we'll want to break the plot the most.
>>
>>24900998

Char hit the rear attitude thrusters as he cut the engine, bringing the arms up and around. The shift in momentum caused the body of the MA to spin upside down as the tail exchanged position with the nose, which snapped open to fire the MPG again.

Time seemed to slow as Char swept the Mono-Eye over the plane that had pursued him up until this point. There was a brief, crystalline moment of perfect clarity as the cockpit of the S3 came into the focus on his screen, the opaque reflection of the sun off the pilot’s cockpit abating as it fell into the Bigro’s shadow. The helmet was unadorned, save for a wing symbol over the ears and ‘S. Burning’ stenciled on the side.

The moment broke, the plane screaming past his drifting fuselage as Char opened fire on the engine of the Salamis, the particle weapon ripping deep into the Nacelle before he hit the thrust once more to escape the rapidly expanding fireball.

>MEANWHILE, DUE TO SO MANY 1'S.

Aina Sahalin was less than pleased. No sooner had she and her brother, Ginias, managed to settle in at Pezun when this whole thing with Riah came up. The order had been for all combat capable personnel to muster, and so she had suited up – much to Guineas’ annoyance, as he had to remain behind.

It had started off a little rough, being towed onto the battlefield by a Mobile Armor at nearly half a gravity, listening to the Black Tri Stars boast and bluster about some kind of attack they’d be launching at the enemy. It had gotten worse upon entering Riah’s area of control and spotting a second Fed attack group coming in to flank the engagement.

And as their small force of R1’s clashed with the Feddie fighters, this asshole in the orange Ball unit had come from fucking nowhere and hogtied her Zaku with his wench cable.

Naturally, she had attempted to use her heathawk to escape. This had the undesired result of overloading both the wench and the Ball unit’s reactor, if the rampant sparks and electrical charge zipping through the cable was any indication. Of course, the Ball pilot chose this moment to shoot her Zaku’s face off.

Between being unable to see, the consoles exploding left and right from the external electrical interference, and the unwholesome idea of a micro-nuke going off in the immediate future, it was time to abandon ship.

Seemed the feddie had the same idea, as she spotted him clambering out of his unit as she cleared the Zaku’s cockpit with her flight pack. The explosion of her Zaku was annoyingly bright.

Surviving on a battlefield without an MS is tricky. One’s best bet is to hole up somewhere relatively safe and keep one’s head down until rescue crews arrived. Somewhere… like the wreck of that Magellan the MA had blown up earlier.

As she redirected her path to take her closer to the ruined ship the Feddie pilot tumbled, unnoticed, after her.

[Feddie Morale: 8 out of 100. Squad Broken!]

>EARLIER

Kareem Councilman had followed the Major’s orders and set himself up with a long view of the fight. And again, once a Cracker was in the grey Zudah’s hand, the strange notice of ‘Advanced Dumbfire Munitions BATC: ONLINE’ popped back up.

He took a moment to discover what it was.

His screens changed from the traditional monitor view to one overlaid with a grid pattern. The Salamis’ were overlaid with small white rectangles, with flags marked ‘Info LOCK’, while the various S3’s and Ball units were overlaid with yellow, flagged ‘POSSIBLE’, and red, flagged ‘WARNING’.

The computer appeared to be calculating ranges and trajectory based on reflected light readings. Considering what Kareem knew of Minovsky particle effects, he wondered how accurate these figures might be in a high density area. He eyeballed the Magellan cruiser Major Aznable had just destroyed, and estimated the settings he would input into the Cracker grenade, were he to target the battleship.

The numbers were nearly identical, the computer’s own settings for timing and secondary warhead settings within a fair margin of error. He set his sights on the rear most of the Salamis line, and set to work.

Four cracker grenades later, and the ship peeled off, bleeding atmosphere and firing widely at the unknown assailant that had wounded it terribly – top MPC gone, comm. tower destroyed, damage done to the rear armor compartment over the Minovsky reactor.

Kareem changed locations, meeting up with a Public Assault Craft carrying a box of Cracker grenades, and lined up the next Salamis. It, too, peeled away to lick its wounds.

The three remaining Salamis began backing off, firing three flares - two red and one white, for retreat.

His job finished, Kareem flipped the computer back into standard mode, grabbed a hold of the PAC, and fell asleep on the ride back to the Falmel.

Char was dancing with that Burning fellow again. He wasn’t certain how he knoew, but the pressure and the pilot’s skill were the same. He skirted under Zaku’s and through enemy formations in an effort to shake the man off his tail, when the signal flares lit the night.

It took a long, grudging moment, but the Feddie S3 finally relented, cutting his engines and using his attitude jets to reorient upwards, before rocketing off in a tight spiral and joining a pair of retreating balls.

Char sighed a breath of relief as he tapped the rear armor readout, which estimated only 63% integrity remaining. The bastard was good.

One of the black and white Zaku’s floated up to where he had cut the MA’s engines to watch the retreat. “You okay in there buddy?” came a jovial voice, different than the one earlier. “You took some hard G’s there.”

“It’s Major Aznable, Tri Star. And I’m fine, thank you.”

“Well, Ho–Lee Shit,” the Tri Star replied. “We done had ourselves a bonafide Ace up in here. Orders, Major, Red Comet, Sir?”

Char found himself glaring at the Zaku. The fake Texas colony accent was really pissing him off.

Sitrep on what forces are lightly damaged, heavily damaged, and outright destroyed. Need a force estimate. Our Bigro is shot to hell, but we have enough for one more furball if it comes to it.

If the Tri-Stars are not damaged, send them to help secure or reinforce the siege on the Feds points of control in the colony. A bit of morale boost for the militia would be really beneficial right about now.

After that, instruct El Presidente to issue a surrender order to the Federal forces still fighting to and turn over ANY materials not destroyed unmolested or you we are coming in.

Begin recovery of Zeon pilots and Riah pilots. They are our top priority. Designate a few passenger transports to begin the rounding up of Fed pilots in the area. We nailed a bunch of their capitals, so we'll need the space in order to house that many. Be sure to have them under armed guard, of course.

“How’s your team’s damage?” Char asked.

“Oretega’s a bit scuffed up, but Gaia and I are just fine, minus a few patches of paint,” Mash replied. “Can’t say about the rest of the folks we came in with, as we seem to be missing a few. What’cha need?”

Char motioned with the Bigro’s claw and Mash grabbed hold of a dorsal fin. The MA immediately headed for the Falmel at its best speed, Char issuing orders the entire way. “I want your team to head back to Riah, get some of the Main Line class transports out here to serve as rescue barges. Also notify Riah flight control to get some tugs out here and start rounding up these scrapped hulls. While you’re at it - get a sitrep on the United Steel building. It should be well in hand, but if they need some Zaku’s to sort something out-“

“We’ll sort ‘em. And ifin’ they don’t need us?”

“Return and make your report, then pitch in with the rescue efforts,” Char said.

“Roger wilco, Major,” Mash replied, letting go of the Bigro as it neared the Falmel. Dren was quick to set up a laser comm. link.

“Good to see you back in one piece, sir.”

“It’s good to be in one piece, Dren. What do you have for me?”

Dren scowled down at a secondary monitor. “We’ve got five Zaku’s MIA. K. Slender, B .Huddleston, C. Edwards, E. Banks, and A. Sahalin.”

Char closed his eyes and nodded sharply. “KIA?”

“PFC Rodriguez claims he saw someone escape a Zaku unit that was tied up by a ball, sir. But he believes it exploded shortly thereafter,” Dren replied.

“Level with me, Hugh – how bad is it?”

“Of the nine Zaku’s remaining, two are in need of serious repair. Five have light to moderate damage, most of it from Anti-Air and Vulcan fire. Two of the Tri Star’s machines are pretty much untouched,” Dren said. “Reports are still coming in from the Riah contingent, but it looks pretty bad. Both Jico’s confirmed KIA. One PAC KIA, one moderately damaged, and two with minor damage. Fighter assets are down by one third, and of the remaining sixteen, only four are in fair condition. To be honest, sir, if it weren’t for our Zaku’s providing covering fire for them, they would have been torn to shreds.”

“They were units made out of spare parts and pulled from mothballs, form what I understand. I’m amazed they did so well.”

“They did their jobs perfectly, Major. I just wish we had updated fighters on hand to equip them with, is all.”

“Dren, I want the Komusai’s prepped and ready to begin rescue of our people five minutes ago,” Char ordered. “I’ve ordered the Black Tri Stars to request prisoner barges from Riah, but do ask the Komusai pilot’s to keep tabs on any EFF personnel they come across.”

“I understand, sir.”

Char eyed his damage readout again. “Probably going to need to wait until Pezun arrives before I can get this thing fixed up.”

“Shame. It was a loaner, sir.”

Aina breathed a sigh of relief as she looked over to, and shared a small smile with, the Federation officer. They had shot at each other, argued, and finally agreed to work together until rescue arrived. And now, with the appearance of the black and white Zaku, it appeared that rescue had come.

His name was Shiro Amada. Ensign of the Federal Forces. “I won’t be taken as a Zeon prisoner of war,” he said, stubbornly.

“What about Riah?” She asked. “Would you surrender to them?”

“As if there’s any difference.”

“What do you mean?”

“We were shipped out here because the president of Riah sold our secrets to the Zeon. So, obviously, they’re on your side now, or else they wouldn’t do that,” Shirou stated.

“Well, we were only sent here to defend Riah from EFF aggression, since its neutral territory. The state secret thing, I haven’t heard anything about,” she said. “But I assure you – Riah is still neutral. Or at least was before,” she spread her hand to gesture, encompassing the devastation brought about by the skirmish, “This.”

Shirou muttered something to himself, before sitting cross-legged on the hull of the Magellan. “Bad intel or not,” he finally grumbled, “I still can’t do it.”

[Dice of Fate – 19]

“Maybe you don’t have too,” She said, pointing at a small moving dot in the blackness. “Grab that piece of glass over there; see if we can get its attention!”

“Right!”

It took some doing, as the broken panel f glass was large enough that it required both of them to angle it towards the white object, but it finally appeared to be getting closer, until- “It’s a Ball!” Shirou said excitedly.

“That’s good for you, isn’t it?”

“What about you?”

Aina smiled tersely. “I have family I need to take care of.”

“Husband?”

“Brother. He’s important,” she hesitated, “To me, that is. And he needs someone to remind him to take his medicine on time.”

There was a sharp beeping sound as the ball pulled up to the Magellan, and Shirou pulled the rather ornate pocket watch Aina had lent him out of his utility pouch – the source of the sound – and offered it back to her. She closed her hands over his and shook her head gently. “To remember me by,” she said. A sudden unmistakable pink glow suffused everything around them, and she offered him another smile. “When we meet again, you can give it back to me then.”

He nodded, and replaced the watch in his pouch. “Thank you, Miss Aina. I hope we do meet again.”

“I’m sure we will, Shirou Amada,” she said, as the young Ensign fired his zip-gun at the ball’s hull, attaching himself with the other five EFF soldiers there. Her last image of him was pulling away with a salute.

His last image of her was her standing there, backlit by the red Mono-eye of a black and white Zaku Unit.

------------

Of the Zaku Pilot’s missing in action, only Aina Sahalin was found.

Three of the eight downed Riah fighter pilots were found alive, much to the relief of their families and loved ones. The co-pilot of Jico assigned to Field Q was found alive, if barely, but would recover.

The Zeon commando team Char had ordered to support Riah Civil Defense Team Bravo had encountered no resistance during their sweep of the United Steel building. They did find a few personnel who thought hiding under their desks, covering their eyes, and wishing the Zeon away was a viable tactic. The four of them were rounded up with the rest of the United Steel personnel.

As for the experimental MS under development… Part of the arm actuator and the head Vulcan unit had been cobbled together to create the ‘gimbaled gantline gun’ Major Aznable had managed to overcome. Most of those parts, and the skeletal beginnings of the suit, would be given to the Pezun techs to pour over in the next few months.

73 - Full 360 Degree Non-Linear Cockpit Tech.
98 - Chobham Armor.
99 - E-Cap Tech for both Rifles and Beam Sabers.

Pre-Generated Loot:

(39) Leg Vernier system
(42) 360-degree "panoramic monitor"
(93) E-cap system blue-print sections are detailed enough to begin limited test production

Your Decision.

Zeon came up with leg verniers on their own iirc, so definitely rolled stuff

what would a nat 100 gotten?

Am back now. Party went well. slightly zoned, but always ready

>>24905049
I'd be willing to spend a NTP to ensure the good rolled loot...

73: Full view cockpit, every surface outside of control panels are screens to see outside.
98: Add-on armor that can be shed on the fly when its use is through.
99:E-cap == battery/ammo packs for beam weaponry. This is a MAJOR JACKPOT.
>>
>>24905163

and then a nat 100 would have mass produced a certain MA unit...
>>
>>24905163
to clarify for the cockpit tech. think of sitting in a sphere and you can see outside ALL AROUND YOU. The only things that block your view are the chair you are in and all the extra stuff attached to the chair that let you pilot.

I had always assumed it would be more efficient to simply pipe the video feed directly into the pilots helmet. No worries about having your cockpit compromised and your 360 degree view spiderweb with cracks and fissures.

Actually, using something like the Oculus Rift would be perfect. But, alas - 1970's era tech, were projectors are top of the line.

Now, if Char were to suggest to a certain scientist a certain desire for a certain pair of shades that could play certain video, you might have something.

>>24905308
Try. Again.

Kycillia designed the Zakrello.

Char, One word;

Zogojuash.

That is all...
>>
When exactly in the OWY did the Feds begin outfitting their GMs with beam spray guns?
>>
>>24905503

Or beam weapons in general. Because if we can retrofit Zakus, if their generator is even possible to support beam weapons, then we'd have one hell of an edge when the Feds finally do get the GM up and running.
>>
>>24905503

after they started Mass Producing them...

For now, we still have the advantage, though How much of an advantage depends on Bright's Side 7 Mission...
>>
>>24905536
to put this in perspective for people.

WE ARE PRE-0079 EPISODE 1 in terms of anime timeline. Zeon just acquired an even bigger tech edge with ecap technology giving them feasible handheld beam weaponry. Do the math, given how much time White Base had to get chased around before they could land in Jaburo to offload the tech.
>>
>>24905536

I thought the GM came first then the spray guns were produced. Power requirements and such and such.
>>
>>24905503
It was the basic weapon for Space Combat GMs? So, on rollout?

08th MST has the (G) Gundam's and the GM's using powder-based weapons, I assume it's because they wanted to recapture the Zeon held facilities in one piece, rather than turn the countryside into a Corning wear convention.

Also, even the Gundam isn't capable of firing a beam on it's own without a charged E-Cap. The MS' on board reactor just 'primes' the weapon and creates a minovsky field, the capasitor then provides the energy to excite the particles and create the beam. Zeon had been trying to create a reactor that could do both, where as the Fed's went the external, rechargeable battery route. E-Cap.
>>
>>24905595

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. My knowledge on the actual workings of Gendum-tech BeamSpam was shaky at best.
>>
>>24905632
I was the same way, until I started running this quest. I have to know about it if I'm going to write about it. That said, since most of my research has been via the MAHQ Mecha Musings articles and the Gundam Wiki, if anyone has infortation from the actual, printed tech bibles (Gundam Encyclopedia, for instance) that countermands my information, feel free to bring it up. I want this to be accurate, but not so much so that It's too technical to be fun. I just don't want to be blatantly lying, either.

I just recently learned how the Minovsky Craft system works - and I've been trying to figure THAT one out for years.
>>
>>24905704

Char. Is Professor Minovsky near Chernobyl? Cause I was reading the manga about him and it showed him near Chernobyl working on Gundam...

I was reading earlier about it. Doesn't it create an I-field between it and the ground allowing for it to float in atmosphere?
>>

Yep. It creates a 'sea' of M-Particles contained in a charged I-Field that basically floats the ship's hull off the ground. Given enough power, you can launch yourself back into space with one. Craaaa~zzzyy.

>*Ahem.* Back to the Plot.

-------------

73 - Full 360 Degree Non-Linear Cockpit Tech.
98 - Chobham Armor.
99 - E-Cap Tech for both Rifles and Beam Sabers.

In time, Pezun would find enough data in the compiled blue-prints and technical documents captured in the United Steel facility to completely understand and develop a new non-linear cockpit system that enabled the pilot to see an unobstructed view in 360 degrees, Ablative armor capable of shrugging off a small particle beam attack based off material and compositional analysis of the Chobham sheets found in the facility, and the crown jewel – ultra-compact capacitors designed to link up to a MS held Minovsky particle projection system.

Working closely with the Riah Republic, who desired mobile suits of their own to repel any future assaults from the EFF, Zeon and Riah scientists adapted their well proven (and Riah Citizen Adored) MS-06 pattern Zaku to work with these captured technologies.

The Result was the YMS-106A High Zaku. Or, as the Riah Civil Defense Forces recruitment poster would later claim, ‘Ya Can’t HiJack from a HiZak’!’

The first HiZaku units would begin rolling out from the jointly owned and operated Zeon-Riah United building on Libot Colony, September 20th, 0079.

But that is a story for the future.
