Previous thread:
>>24317175

You take your little turnip idol up front immediately, and only have to wait through two other students before you show it to Petrov. He takes it from you and looks it over slowly, running his finger tips over the glowing motes of spectral flame. "Decent craftsmanship," he says. "Needlessly stylized. Accounted and adjusted for spirit/material synchronicity. Utterly failed to bind the spirit; applied alternate methods to emulate binding."

He gives you a long, hard stare. "You won't fail," he finally say simply, handing you back the idol. "Now, get this out of my classroom before it leaves residue or attracts pests."

You walk over towards the door. Liz is already done - she bound a minor fire spirit into an American-style Jack-o-lantern, you expect just for fun. Hera's hanging around in the hallway chatting with Sam. Lin is still working on her project, as is Pierre.

What do you do now?
>>
>"Now, get this out of my classroom before it leaves residue or attracts pests."
Oh cool...

We ain't taking that shit back to the tower. Ask Liz if she knows what he meant by 'pests'.
>>
>>24323006
Go home and talk to the ghost dryad.
>>
>>24323040
And text dad if she doesn't.

About as good as we could expect.

Given that he mentioned residue and pests we shouldn't take it back with us.

Leave the classroom, say hi to Sam and Hera, tell them who we bound and see if they want to say anything to her as we plan on saying 'hi' anyways.
>>
>>24323006
Don't take it back with us. Talk to it now and then ask Liz to banish it.
>>
>>24323040
You know, like ants and flies that love rotting vegetation.
>>
>>24323006
Find somewhere private to talk to the Dryad's ghost, we did promise.
>>
>>24323110
Or spirit things that feed on improperly bound ghosts.
>>
>>24323006
Join Liz and Sam, try and communicate with the Dryad. Ask her name first, if we ask anything.
>>
>>24323067
this they may want to talk to her and she them.
>>
>>24323006
Hmm, probably should try talking to our summoned spirit if we know enough enchantment to get it done.

Also, since I just got here and am curious, did we have enough class time to make a ghost summoning drain focus before making the first ghost catching attempt?
>>
>>24323006
Find a spot with Hera and Sam, and have a chat.
>>
>>24323221
Probably if we had only done a quick job of carving the thing.
>>
>>24323221
Oh, also since I skipped all the poster chatter while catching up, we aren't planning to cram ghost dryad's spirit into ice dryad or anything like that, right? Just no sure why we picked her.
>>
>>24323263
to talk to her and she is a plant spirit so an easy target.
>>
>>24323123
Could be, Im just saying. We could always have dad teleport out to look at it.
>>
>>24323284
Gotcha, cool beans.
>>
>>24323263
We're not going to do anything to her, we mostly picked her out of sympathy.

I just realized. We didn't bind her, only summoned her. She is in no way attached to the radish and doesn't have to leave when it rots.

We may have just accidentally created a ghost babysitter/ghost mom.
>>
>>24323291
I for one don't care right now. I want to send her back once we finish talking with her. We may promise to let her meat her daughters next Halloween when they are older.

With a little luck she will approve of us raising and protecting her children. If not she may want us to send number 3 to her grandmother.
>>
>>24323346
I'd rather just let her go back to the other side.
>>
>>24323006
Since the mind drill rebuilds memories from broken pieces couldn't we technically use it on her?
>>
>>24323374
And if she doesn't want to go?
>>
>>24323284
Hmm, just thinking out loud here. What would happen if we bound her into a wood shell, used enchantment to build her a relatively robust mind and ran the mind drill on her to regen her memory (maybe repress those last few minutes though). I know resurrection is supposed to be very difficult and a long, laborious process, but this might be a decent long term project if we want to plan contingencies in case of Max's death.
>>
>>24323346
we Liz and Sam can banish her back to her afterlife after we talk if all goes well she will let us do it willingly.

I don't want a repeat of that fucking "revive the dryad as a zombie" thing.

I don't want to bring up the harem to our Daughters biological mom.
I want her to know her children are all safe(ish) and loved. and that we hope she is in peace. Then ask if she has any special requests and wants to talk to them next year when they are all old enough to understand.

Then we send her back to her rest on the other side having eased her pain of fiery death.

Just caught up with this quest, fun stuff.

A few points I wanted to make

Alchemy:
Alchemy is your primary, you could be doing a LOT more alchemy per day if you stop burning your energy on it. Using your energy means you get a penalty to all other work until it recovers (-1 and -1 temp focus limit and -1 perm focus limit).
1. You should make yourself literally 100 permanent foci of mitigating strain of foci creation. (each one can be used to craft the next one immediately). That would let you to effectively craft foci non stop without any strain. (as they will recharge faster then you use them). For that project arrange 100 copies of each temp foci (up to your max of 4), use perm foci to only mitigate strain, use each perm foci as soon as you craft it to craft the next one. You already have 2 so it allows 2 mistakes without disrupting your project. If you eventually make a 3rd mistake pause and finish the next day. This would only be a few hours of actual work.
2. Having 100 strain mitigation foci for creating foci, you could craft permanent foci (regular AND reducing strain) for everything else you want to do with alchemy in the future on the fly. It would be on the fly because you would use just the 1 strain mitigation foci per attempt. Yes it would be only the 4 rolls each, but you would have so many strain mitigation it wont matter if you have some failures. Heck you might even get a +1 or 2 from general purpose temp foci made in alchemy lab without going on scavenger hunt (keep huge containers each full of thousands of condoms, small gold pellets, a massive dispenser jug full of your semen (in a freezer), and a pen and paper to write/draw when necessary)
>>
>>24324315
Oh, wow. That's actually pretty spiffy.
>>
>>24324315
Haha! Got it.
>>
>>24324297
when we get to that part this is what we say.

We can also say they we gave Sam an Hera 1 each so that if something bad happens to any one of us the others would likely still be safe

>>24324315
neat
>>
>>24324325
We already have enough foci creation strain mitigation foci to craft non stop
>>
>>24324325
WE can only use two permanent foci per thing.
>>
Optimizing living alchemy:
1. Take advantage of group sessions in lotus sanctum. You get a ridiculous amount of stacking modifiers (bells, incense, om wave, carl leading, etc... IIRC it was +6 vs the +2 you manage at home).
2. If at home, grab a recharging plate for your cell phone so it doesn't run out on you halfway. Consider getting something permanent (like a sound elemental)
3. Make a super long incense stick so it doesn't run out as fast and get someone who doesn't sleep (like your dad) to replace it as needed.
4. Focus and Calm enhancement reduce the time it takes to perform any other living alchemy on yourself. You should limit any other enhancement to X-1 where X is your current focus and calm scores.
5. Upgrade memory so you can focus on your studies better.
6. A permanent vulnerability to alchemy is bad... but what about making an item that, while worn, gives a vulnerability to alchemy?
>>
"You're at the Scholomance," you tell her, waiting for a reaction. She just stares at you blankly. "It's Halloween." More blank stares. "You're a ghost."

"A... Ghost...?" she asks, looking down at herself. Slowly, burn scars start covering her body, a few stab wounds, lacerations, blackened flesh flaking off like a roasted pepper. "I'm... Dead..."

"Yes," you say. "You are. I summoned you for a few reasons. The first was the pass that project, but now I want to talk to you. I saw you a few times while you were alive, but I never got to talk to you. My name is Max."

"Max...?" she says slowly. "I'm... I'm... She Walks the Path with Sunlight in her Hair..." She spits out that last line in a long chain, like it was just one word to her. "Why... Am... I... Here...?"

You think she's only processing bits and pieces of what you're saying. You might need to condense what you want to say into short segments.

What do you say now?
>>
>>24324325
Actually the magic number is 4 sets for continuous crafting as each focus takes an hour to make ignoring resource collection and each focus takes 3-4 hours to charge.

>>
>>24324369
"I saved your daughters. They're safe."
>>
>>24324369
"Because I wanted to talk to you."

"What do you remember?"

It occurs to me that even if we aren't planning to seek revenge (which we probably shouldn't...) it would still be worth knowing if she remembers the faces of the Dextra who murdered her.
>>
>>24324364
No, only have 2 total.
>>24324365
No, you can you a number of temp foci equal to your skill score and a number of perm foci equal to skill score.
Having a skill score of 4 in alchemy we can use 4 temp + 4 perm foci on any alchemy attempt.
However, if attempting alchemy to craft a magical item, the secondary school matters since you use the lower of the two skills. Some things are alchemy/alchemy giving you are score of 4. Others are alchemy/sorcery (score of 1) or alchemcy conjuration (score of 2) or alchemy/enchantment
>>
>>24324402

>>
>>24324377
ah ok. Thanks for clarification.
So, getting 4 sets of both +skill and -strain would be good then. Such that you are maxed out on perms for focus crafting whenever crafting a focus.
>>
>>24324414
we have 2 drain at home IIRC not 1 so we have a minimal drain set for one person.
Our boost set is lacking though.
>>
>>24324402

>>
>>24324486

Librarian? Dryad talk. Lotus sanctum? Dryad talk. Sam or Hera? Dryad talk.
>>
>>24324504

>>
>>24324486
We don't talk about the PETS or Dad outside the tower. Get it straight.
>>
>>24324471
yes I do not know if secondary casters can use strain foci as well though. I know they only allow half their skill in extra boos foci though.
>>
So, what's the consensus on where to go with this?
>>
>>24324721
Talk to her and let her know she has some daughters continuing in her place. Short and simple.
>>
>>24324377
Are you sure the actual alchemy takes an hour?
IIRC it took 1 hour to collect appropriate temp foci and then minutes to cast.
Class assignments also had Max performing multiple castings within a single hour.

>>24324526
Yes. never mention of lunch, breakfast, or dad outside of tower.
The library and lotus sanctum are both better warded then our tower and nether is unlikely to blab.
But yea, dryads are not exactly a secret... however there is no reason to not minimize who knows, and especially minimize the knowledge of emotional attachment we have to her.
Most people would consider us having a dryad as a mere "oh they want to not worry about poison food, lucky them"... but if they find out how emotional attached you are then the dryad becomes a target the same way dane used the lover of his 5th circle enemy from society of archmagi.

There is really no point in blabbing on it to her, not unless we permanently bind her spirit inside the tower. Something we can still do by simply dismissing her, going home to have brunch, and then doing a group perma bind. And I am not sure that is going to be healthy or useful.
>>
>>24324721

I find it fairly probable that with our future modified mind drill to work on current-incarnation memories we could probably fix up the damaged souls of people who died traumatic deaths.

And if we can bind ghosts to bodies they can control like with spirits (see Gaviscon), then we can functionally resurrect someone without going through the messy and apparently really dangerous hassle of actual resurrection. It is surely not the same thing as being properly alive, but it gives you the ability to experience and influence the real world again. Even if we were just trying to show off for a shitty class project, we've accidentally given ourselves a chance to take this person and let them sort-of live again. Maybe we should do everything we can to achieve that. We are, after all, indirectly responsible for her death in the first place; she was killed in a retaliation for something our father did, which he could only do because we released him from his cell and then wouldn't give him the common courtesy of a handjob.

With the help of other conjurers to stabilise the summoning and our emotional manipulation abilities, we could keep her calm and painless while we actually try to achieve this goal. I don't know about everyone else but it's what I'd do in the situation.

I love how things like using sorcery to completely silence a gun or make cool things is too much effort for too little reward, but people are gung-ho to embark on the much harder mind-drill repair the ghost dryad.

>>
>>24324907
I would consider that later but for one the mind drill aspect is nowhere near ready.
We wold need a lot of preparation to pull this off.
And we can dismiss her after talking and bring her back when everything else is ready.
In the meantime she and us are both safer with her peacefully in the afterlife.
Our calm spell makes her rest peaceful.
>>
>>24325009
Guns roll body and cause no strain.
>>
>>24324907
If you must do that, then dismiss her now. Do the research properly, and summon her later on to start the repair.
Telling her anything now is just an unnecessary security risk that can get you or your family killed. She can always be told whatever when such a thing is done.

She is not going to be any less dead a year from now and this could be done much more professionally when you are actually prepared.

>>24325009
True. Also magic guns are detectable and give away your position. And with body alchemy are rendered obsolete.

"I found your seeds," you tell her slowly. "Your daughters are safe."

"My... Seeds...?" she asks, looking slowly down her body. The flesh around her pelvis and belly slowly starts cracking and flaying open, leaving her entire abdomen empty and bare. She starts looking up at you, the empty confusion touched with slight shock, slight horror. "My... Babies...? Where... Are... My... Babies...?"

She looks like she's about to start screaming again.

Magic causes strain.
Magic is unreliable.
Magic demands foci and wards can effectively nullify it.

An M1911 alchemised to be made out of the hardest, toughest materials we could dream up and firing ludicrously dense rounds from amazingly overpressure cartridges requires a lot of prep time, but it could punch holes in reinforced walls (let alone vaguely augmented flesh) and unless everything created with alchemy constantly reeks of magic, it wouldn't even be detectable.

This has nothing to do with the HoP

Silencing a gun with sorcery would take one success. Its the same spell we used to power the collar.

>Also magic guns are detectable and give away your position.

Not detectable when fired. Detectable when carried. They give away your position.

Remember during early threads when the armory in the crumbling tower was first found this was discussed. Even an untrained firsty can tell if a weapon is enchanted or not at a glance.

However, there might be "anti detection" enchantments you can place on the gun to mitigate it. It would certainly be viable weapon if so.

Guys, drop the mind drill thing. First off, it's way too far underdeveloped to bother talking about, and second off, we're talking to a literal fucking spirit. There is no mind to this being. You cannot fix the mind of a soul, because the soul and mind are separate.

Also, you're all completely distracted from the actual quest events and helping nobody.

this but say

It repairs the soul and mind since memories are attached to both, I believe. And even if it doesnt, the point is that people were theorizing another use of the mind-drill that we dont even have the capacity to make yet, not saying to drop everything and fix the dead dryad. It was a future plan and much better than anything Snapple has proposed, regardless of whether or not it was even all that good. Hell, most of them were saying to use the dryad as a guinea pig so we would know what to do if Max died.
>>
>>24325168
Every suggestion *I* have for improving firearms relies solely on making them out of different stuff and taking advantage of our extreme strength. Unless all transmuted materials are considered enchanted, it would be undetectable.

Hey, great point. I concede then and change my vote in support of such a gun then.

>>24325225
The point they are making is not to use the mind drill on this dead soul. The idea they have is to resurrect her and then use the mind drill on the drooling brainless vegetable that results. Dad said the mind of a successful resurrection is irreversibly in tatters. The mind drill is based on the process via which Lin successfully resurrects, and is able to recover memories that are literally gone, thus removing the "irreversible".
It is possible that with heavy research this could be used to devise a viable resurrection method that can be used on anyone.

This would be a great thing for max to work on but it would take years of work and is not at all viable anytime soon. In the meanwhile revealing anything to this broken ghost is a security risk.
>>
"They're safe," you tell her slowly. "Completely safe. I'm their grovemother." You decide to leave out that Sam, Hera, and the Librarian collectively have half of them. You don't want to overload the ghost with details. "They're safe and loved. I'm taking care of them."

Uh... Considering firearms draw on our best stat and would benefit from about half our augments, in addition to being handy, cheap, and having far more uses available than spells since it doesn't incur drain, I really don't see where you're going with this. In the average combat situation, a gun that we can fire reasonably well with is far more effective than betting on ending it with one of our three or four spell attempts.

Not /yet/

The mundane rifle gave +2 to body rolls.

Get more augs and you're right.

2. Did you have any other living relatives? (could be potential allies, could also be potential enemies if they scry for the seeds).
3. DO NOT introduce her to any of the daughters yet. None are ready for this yet and its a huge security risk.
>>
If we can stabilise the summoning, and get her bound to something, we apparently have the enchantment mojo required to influence what's left of her mind and keep her calm, we should do that and then devote some of our time to making that mind drill, because seriously the mind drill is awesome. Hell, unless I remember wrongly, our father is going to be done with the wards soon, and if that is the case then he will shortly have a lot more free time to faff about with, some of which he could use researching this himself. Lin would probably be interested in inventing new applications for the drill too, and she doesn't even place a great deal of value on her time or even her life because she knows she's going to get a new one later anyway. It wouldn't be a solo project and it's worth doing.

We should definitely shop to Dad the possibility of the modified mind drill solving the resurrection problem, regardless of whether or not you chumps decide it's "worth" trying to fix the dryad.

Guys, it's been explicitly stated that the mind drill restores the mind based on what the soul knows.

The mind perceives events, and those events are recorded onto the soul. The soul remembers even when the mind does not. The mind drill copies the memories from the soul, and puts them back onto the mind.

Using the mind drill on a ghost is pointless.

Assuming the bullet shield actually obeys basic physical principles in that it applies force to incoming projectiles to change their trajectory, there will be limits to the amount of force it can apply and we can make weapons that counteract that by firing projectiles that are much denser and at much higher velocity

>>24325465
>>24325467
We can make guns to take advantage of our strength augmentation in that we can make extremely powerful guns that would be completely unusable for a normal human because of their weight and recoil but are manageable for a superhuman like us. These better guns would have advantages that make them more effective against the magical defences employed against firearms. Moreover, they'd be unexpected. In a world where paranoia reigns and people constantly walk around with magical protections against the attack vectors they expect to be used against them, the best way to win is by coming up with solutions that are completely unexpected so our enemies are not adequately prepared. The common wisdom is that guns are shit-tier against magic. I don't believe that's actually true - just that nobody who wanted to use guns has been creative enough yet.

People are accurately pointing out that firearms don't take advantage of superhuman strength in the way that archaic muscle-powered weaponry does. I also once mentioned that upgrading firearms is rarely worth the time invested compared to other projects, and it would require more time than using alchemy to produce a high-strength bow.

That said, firearms are still useful, be it against enemies that aren't physical powerhouses, in the hands of anyone without super strength, or just because they're guns. A high-strength bow, though, is a reasonably elegant solution to a ranged weapon that exploits all of Max's applicable physical augmentations. Javelins and increasingly silly Asian throwing weapons would be too.

I never said a giant gun. I said a really powerful gun. For most of the weapon all you care about is extreme hardness which isn't even correlated to weight; most of the superhard materials aren't particularly dense by materials standards. The bits you'd want to be ultradense are the rounds themselves and they'd be a tiny portion of the overall thing.

Femcock can veto the whole concept if she wants - it's her quest - but the physical principles are totally sound.

I am amused by people who instantly leapt upon the bow as a great idea when they were presumably complaining about the impenetrability of bullet shields a moment ago. It's not like a high-powered rifle round has more fucking power than an arrow, even one fired from a fancy bow by a superhuman. If it works on bullets, it works on arrows too, shitforbrains!

Diamond is actually a terrible material for something like this. It's hard and holds a good edge, but it's very brittle and we don't actually WANT super-sharp arrows, since they'll just wiff right through someone while imparting next to no energy, which is both a waste and risks collateral damage.

It is radioactive. Just less then refined uranium.

>>
>>24325774
Ultra-sharp arrows actually cut down where we can hit while still causing lethal damage. Blunt impacts tot he ribs, bad enough, can cause lethal complications. Slicing through the lower left area of someone's abdomen and maybe moderately lacerating their large intestines isn't going to kill them as quickly as an arrow with a ten pound steel ball on the end slamming into their chest and bursting it open like a chest burster with a party popper.
>>
>>24325740

Arrows have more volume, thus more possible mass, which means that there is more possible piercing potential.

>Fem already said that the time spent on creating a useful-ish gun like that would be better spent on self-augments.
We've demonstrated the capacity to trivially turn raw material into completely different elements and complex forms - with, at most, a few hour's work (see huge pile of rock into gold, any time we've fabricated something that isn't just a raw material, like the outfits for the maids [which by the way consisted of several components but we made them very quickly in single attempts, so it's not like we'd have to roll individually and spend an hour for every single bullet]). That is all that is necessary to create a gun of the type I have described. It shouldn't even be a full day's work for Max.

The guns can be vetoed, but I'd rather not be given bullshit reasons for it.

The risk of collateral comes from overpenetration. Sharp tips will cut though easily and just keep on going, leaving the target with a nice, clean, even hole poked in them. A wide, blunted tip, meanwhile, will cave in their entire rib cage.

>>24325819
Wow... no just no.

1. Depleted uranium is NOT radioactive.
Any radioactivity in mundanely manufactured depleted uranium is due to it being like... 99% depleted uranium and 1% radioactive one.
2. Enrichment is a misnomer, the enrichment process of uranium is actually filtering raw uraniuam and separating the radioactive from the depleted isotopes.

So depleted uranium is just a harmless non radioactive metal

>and it would require more time than using alchemy to produce a high-strength bow.

Oh. Oh. I see now!
People are assuming you would use alchemy to make a More Powerful Gun with magic.

Instead of like, actually interesting/useful applications of magic.
Like binding a lightning elemental into a firearm for a future wand that shoots lightning
or scrying-scopes
or a chamber that teleports rounds closer to/into the target
or binding a spirit of some kind to just manufacture ammo
or just plain enchanting it as a foci to aid in spells that guide bullets to the target with sorcery, to counteract barriers.

That explains a lot, actually. Yeah, augmented musclepower-to-damage ratios are probably better with a bow than through purely mundane science.
And alchemy-science on a per-gunpowder/casing/bullet basis is so extensively time-costly that it's not worth it

Thanks! that explains a lot.

I am having second thoughts about the bow idea...
1. Semi-auto gun can fire so much quicker then a bow and hold many more bullets.
2. By the time a bow becomes superior to a gun our upgrades to body would be enough that we could literally run faster then the arrow
3. We are unlikely to fight lotus (hardened bodies). Our enemies instead will have kinetic deflectors (arrow just curves to not hit them) or space/time deflection (superior to kinetic since its impossible to penetrate with more strength, can only be penetrated via enchanting the arrow to counterspell).

The great thing about using extremely high mass arrows and putting astronomical force behind it through a heavily alchemized, ultra-draw-strength bow is that the kinetic impact is so extreme that standard personal kinetic shields will probably snap or exhaust themselves within a couple of impacts.

>Yeah, augmented musclepower-to-damage ratios are probably better with a bow than through purely mundane science.
NO THEY ARE NOT
And even if you charitably assumed these ratios were equal there is a reason modern armies fight with guns and not fucking bows and arrows, no matter how hench their soldiers are - guns are better for an overwhelming array of reasons, none of which are negated by the magical environment, and any defence which would apparently make guns useless is going to be equally applicable against arrows.

>>24326046
You know at first I was doubtful but your gif of a woman firing 12 arrows in about as many seconds is clearly far faster than even the finest of modern fully automatic weapons (for instance, a relatively standard fire rate of six hundred rounds per minute, or ten per second), let alone semiautomatic pistols (capable of emptying an entire magazine in a couple of seconds in the hands of a skilled user).

>>24326057
>>Gun can fire faster than bow
>Now when we get a few more levels of speed
We would have to get truly obscene speed levels to be able to match the fire rate of automatic weapons with self-powered attacks

If nobody else wants to use guns that's fine but stop pretending like they're totally unviable because making guns that would still be effective really is trivial. I'm only really upset that people keep making up these bullshit reasons that guns are unviable when the mechanics of the universe clearly show otherwise. I wouldn't have kept arguing about it if people had just said "sure, it's possible, but we don't want to do it", because there's tons of stuff we could possibly be doing but don't because we don't collectively feel like it.

Kinetic shields can still fail to stop bullets and arrows alike. Kinetic shields add bonus dice when defending yourself in combat, in exactly the same manner as your Shield augmentation. If you roll enough successes, you hit at the right angle, hit hard enough, hit the gap, hit the weak point, whatever, and carry on through to damage your target. There aren't perfect defenses against attack methods.

Automatic weapons are better at killing because they put more lead in the air and the more bullets you have going in someone's direction the more likely they are to be hit by one.

In addition, when you are firing a gun capable of penetrating the cover your enemy is using and still killing the person on the otherside, being able to spray a lot of rounds at the general area of a target you can't necessarily actually see the precise location of is more likely to kill them.

Also, since when would be being able to use suppressive fire be a bad thing? More options is better.

Yes. There are methods of attack that ignore methods of defense, but no methods of defense that completely ignore methods of attack. For example, using a spirit's True Name obviates their Mind or Soul stat in resistance rolls. Wards still apply, but that method of resistance is eliminated.
>>
>>24326649
Yes, because trapping heat in a solid kinetic shield traps the heat inside, turning the shield into a body-shaped convection oven. We could make Flametongue Arrows or something to do this. Arrows that shatter and cause a gigantic fire explosion.

Before we dismiss her, we should try to ask if there is anything she wants to be done. Even though we won't find John for awhile, we could just say if she wants to give a message just for the sake of helping her rest easier.

Or shit, we could even ask if she wants us to try to summon her again like this sometime. We aren't in any rush to dismiss her, so there's no loss in doing this.
>>
We could use our magic strength to carry multiple weapons, use magic to hide them or something. We shouldn't try to build a single weapon for all situations, we should analyze the threat to determine whether the silent strike of a bow or the pure destructive power of a grenade launcher is appropriate.

Sorry Fem, for even being a part of this discussion, but maybe I can make them realize we have so far only killed two scrubs with a rifle.

I know this isn't viable because of how shit they are, but imagine dual wielding bows with telekinetic hands.

It would be easier to do this by binding a spirit and linking it to our mind, actually.

We yeah (oblivion vs eternal bonfire? Not that tough a choice), but I suppose that crosses the moral event horizon for most posters...but at that point she'd be more a potential resource/security risk, so why would we banish her?
>>
>>24326912
exactly that is why we just have liz send her back to the other side.
After we Read her mind to learn Johns face.
>>
>>24326783
Why multi-wield when we can just use one monster bow with multiple magic arrows?
>>
>>24326978
We don't really gain anything by keeping her. Say we get liz to banish her and be done with it. We've told her her daughters are safe, we should let her rest.
>>
>>24326978
We calmed the flames from the bonfire. I've seen no indication that she'll start burning again when we banish her.

>We've told her her daughters are safe, we should let her rest.
AFTER we figure out for sure who the dad is, and if she knows the face of her killer.
As i mentioned before, we can deal with a box of enchantment strain
>>
fuck it, I'm not even going to argue about the guns anymore, I'm sick of people who don't get basic physics and have started ranting about how awesome a bow would be for exactly the same properties they said guns would be terrible for
>>
>>24327059
She said John is the Father, we aren't going to get more than that.

The killers are Dextra, I think they wore masks but I could be mistaken, either way it doesn't matter as we aren't going to do anything at all to upper circle Dextras because we're not dumb.
>>
So, if I am not mistaken current vote is
8 - ask liz to dismiss her (most of those were before the mindread suggestion)
4 - mindread her first then ask liz to dismiss her. (find out who specifically killed her, any living relatives, and who the father is)
1 - ask about her mother then dismiss her
>>

Whiiiich is why I suggested getting that information without ASKING. She clearly knows who the dad IS.(she recognizes him, but won't share more)
So we skip the asking and going right to the brainscanning. With enchantment. that I already mentioned.
>>
>>24327096
Good, arguing was achieving nothing. Sit back, chill out, and just enjoy the thread.
>>
If we're capable of reading her mind then do that, we may be better off just reading information directly than trying to get to understand what we want to know.

Otherwise, or after that, have Liz dismiss her, with an option on summoning her again next year.

Of course we could always ask Liz and Lin over and find out what they think we should do.

"Sure thing," Liz says, walking up. She pulls a little ziplock baggie of foci out of her pocket, gives it a shake, and its contents turn to ash as the ghost melts away. She pockets the now-worthless bag and gives you a smile as Lin comes strutting on out of class.

"So, where are we going?" she asks excitedly. "New York? LA? There must be some great party somewhere."

"I'm going home soon, actually," says Hera. You're slightly startled; you forgot she was wearing that illusion. "My little one needs to be fed and put to bed or she'll be a nightmare tomorrow."

"We still need to get pictures of Selene in her costume," Liz tells you excitedly. She's really proud of that costume.

1.I'm an Archer irl and bows are cool
2. a bow will be easier to enhance than a gun

4. a bow will take advantage of all of our physical Augments

>>24327143
That may be the real reason they're doing it. I would just like them to have admitted it instead of inventing fallacious reasons that bows are physically better than guns or that guns are just terrible, especially when those reasons also applied to bows.

I am totally okay with the majority being of the opinion that the bow is stylistically cooler than the guns, even if I disagree, but you are the only person so far who has admitted that it's just because you think it's cooler, and the rest of them are spewing utter crap about mechanics and physics nonsense to try and justify their opinions

>>
>>24327254
Look
We have Strenght+2
It gives us 2 more dice when using a bow and nothing when using a Gun
Ergo, Bows are plain better than Guns
Why is that so hard to grasp?
>>
>>24327259
>I think he means when/if we enchant the arrows
exactly, who gives a crap about mundane arrows or bullets but enchanted arrows would be completely worth salvaging unless they are exploding arrows.
>>
>>24327314
But the only arrows really worth enchanting are going to be single use.

Unless you can think of something that gives enough of a boost without destroying the arrow in the process.
>>
>>24327308
and enchanted ammunition could be salvaged and reused (if we don't make ones that open holes to extra-planar spaces we can't get to)
>>
>>24327243
if we enchant them we sure as hell have reason to salvage them but the mundane material ones are ok to just drop.

>>24327332

>>24327346

>>
>>24327380
an Aristotelian arrow would fly from a bow,
>>
>>24327298
I have no idea what you are talking about

>>24327308
If you want to use that meta argument.
The +2 strength means a mundane bow is going to be snapped like a twig, you must create a special bow to use it. And even then you are assuming the base non enhanced bow has identical dice pool then a non enchanted gun (bows are much harder to aim and shoot things with and are inherently inferior to guns).
As for recovering enchanted ammo... you can repack a bullet. But lets be reasonable, the arrows and bullets are most likely not going to survive reuse
>>
>>24327332
Selectively phasing arrows that warp themselves though walls but embed themselves in flesh, ones that secrete some magically-concocted ungodly poisons and acids, arrows enchanted with a variant of the sight-sharing spell that we can use as deployable spy cameras, arrows enchanted with tiny inbound teleport circles, all sorts of things. Use your imagination.

>>
>>24327380
Set it to have a delayed trigger after passing a certain amount of kinetic energy. Launch it with tens of thousands of Newtons of force and then trap the energy and prevent it from being reduced by air resistance or physical impact.

Suddenly, you have phase arrows, turning your bow into a handheld railgun.
>>
>>24327409
You are assuming that there's way more granularity in this shitty dice pool system than there actual is.
>>
>>24327395

>>
>>24327386
oh yes and tell her talking to grandma about grandpa could make her sad.
>>
>>24327429
I think they're talking about enchanting it to obey a completely different kind of physics, thus the 'Aristotelian physics' the one anon mentions.
>>

>>24327409

Why won't the arrows survive? I assume we use metal arrows with our metal bow

Beside, rule of cool
I'm pretty sure we can nail someone to a wall with a Bow

Oh hey, we decided to get a permanent kinetic shield on because the boost to sensory augmentation nullified the penalty from kinetic shielding.
But that means we are currently more vulnerable to heat (and I am guessing airborne toxins too?).
Might want to counteract those vulnerabilities too via self alchemy.

"Let's head home," you tell the girls. "We can figure out the details once we're there."

Fuck, I don't know. For one thing, you need weapons designed such that the shear force and leverage even allows you to hold them like that. Just because you're strong enough to carry it around doesn't mean you have the leverage necessary to actually use it when it's so awkward and mounted on a pistol grip. Your super strength isn't comic book super strength. A Lotus Master who tries to pick up a plane will just have his fingers tear right through it.

when dad cast the spell we still felt the pain but it wasn't actually pain-full it was numbed not reduced or turned off. It is still a trade off but that for as opposed to a total turn off may be ok permanently.
Clearly a great spell an ok aug with some risk.
>>
>>24327914
But that's sorcery.

We're better and enchantment and the emotion field is pretty developed. And we have lotsa foci for it already.
>>
>>24327920
ok thanks.
>>
>>24327948
no it's conjuration not that it's much better
>>
>>24327920
Also I expected longer answers on the last 2 that is why i said 5
I know what i need now in any event.
>>
>>24327995
Derp thought that said lightning bolt for some reason.

Point still stands though,
>>
we need to ask Dane about his flight powers at some point and Domino about Wakashu jumps.
>>
If we had a mind fork and the TK aug could bot our main mind and the fork control the TK points?
>>
>>24328184
We decided to not get the TK on the grounds that having all the powers of a hand for 5 levels of body aug is pure shite.
>>
>>24328204
Especially since it can be done far more effortlessly using Sorcery.
>>
>>24328204
>>24328245
We'll save TK augs for when Max has finished Scholomance, has a lifespan of tens of thousands of years, and has nothing important planned for the next decade.
>>
>>24328204
If it allows our mind fork to interact with the world thus helping her stay sane that side benefit may be worth it to her. I figure we tell her one aug then she pick one then we pick one together and then we pick one again and so on

>>24328245
can the fork cast and use foci? If not ant she can use the aug her getting some may be worth it.

TK is shit on its on worth the surprise value of 1 level at best. But if it helps the sanity of our mind fork it is pure gold.
>>
>>24328337
If it lets the fork interact with the world then if it goes crazy it might not just attack us, it might strangle Liz / Dryad babies / Dad
>>
>>24328366
I admit there are risks but if the fork can cast like >>24328245 seems to imply we have much bigger problems. Plus if making her slightly more dangerous and us slightly more powerful make her much more sane then i think it may be worth it.
Imagine you were the fork how much would you value the jump form no physical interaction to having a week fingertip in reality?
>>
>>24328337
>>24328459
I wasn't saying the fork at all, I was referring to TK effects through sorcery.

And unless the fork-users have a sure-fire method to it that doesn't have a chance to fuck us over (like the DS switch-twins, who are almost the same person, anyways) I'm against forking our minds.
>>
>>24328459
not to mention that TK one gives us teh ability to push things without touching them like flipping the coin counter in a vending machine or 1 finder typing. And TK 2 lets us pick up things without touching them. Like something that well down the sink or something that fell onto a vat of acid.
>>
>>24328577
Am i the only one who thinks that when the twins change who is dominant it is really that they switch witch body the yin personalities control and witch body the yang forks control? And that niter is a real switch but one personality is always dom the other always sub just swapping bodies?
>>
>>24328582
Why would we need that when a basic magic could do the same thing better?
>>
>>24328730
Even if the hands are complete shit compared to basic sorcery, they are a lot cooler.

It's a shame they're complete ass though.
>>
>>24328696
I can imagine the arguments.
>"You fucking retard, I've got blisters on my ankles now! I told you to take those cuffs off after we were done, but nooo~oo, you said they looked 'cute' and kept them on all damn day."
>"Well, that's for insulting my old boyfriend!"
>"Your old boyfriend was a shitty piece of ass, and you know it. I know I know it. Seriously, who thinks shampoo is a good substitute for real lubricant?"
>"We were both new to buttfucking at the time, so cut him some slack!"
>"I'll give him as much slack as I'm going to give you for the next four hours, bitch."
>>
>>24328730
reliability and lack of strain anything over 2 has obscene diminishing returns especially without a mind fork but they have a lot of surprise value. and if a mind fork cant cast but can control then they are wort something for the forks sanity,

I am largely playing devils advocate. But the surprise and utility in levels 1 and 2 are better than you give them credit for I would trade most augments (this excludes calm and focus) going form 3-4 for TK 2 and it would be 2-3 if a fork could use TK and not cast.

>>24328806
nah I be neither of them had other partners they didn't share to begin with.
>>
>>24328957
>nah I be neither of them had other partners they didn't share to begin with.
Or at least they shared without the other party's awareness.
>>
I don't get why everyone thinks TK is bad.

If I understood correctly, they add +1 to body scores per level whenever using an extra hand is applicable.

So it adds to blocking and hitting, and that's before you factor in things that need a third limb.
>>
>>24329067
Probably because it'll take a while and have the range of our hand
>>
>>24329067
+5 TK = olympian strength hand

+5 strength = strangle dragons

+5 durability = bulletproof

+5 speed = not quite the flash

+5 regen = not quite wolverine

+5 focus = genius

+5 anything else = better than a fucking hand.
>>
>>24329067
They take far too much effort to basically be another pair of (worse) hands.

They're not useless, but it's just time and effort better spent on other things.
>>
>>24329022
what are there genders I thought 1 was male the other female or are they both girls I know 1 for sure is a girl.

>>24329067
the one point not one hand per level turns a lot of people off.
you need 2 minimum to carry most things and 3 is worlds better for it.
also range and time

>>24329125
tk 3 is the minimum level to be a reasonable hand substitute. and you have indestructible near invisible strength 2 tweezers for 2.

I say over 3 is a waste for a very long time but 1&2 are reasonable right now or at least with a fork that can use them.
>>
>>24329147
They might be cool for multitasking if combined with a split mind, but that's another matter entirely.
>>
>>24329205
TK isn't really something we want offensively (for Max).

It'd be more useful to Liz, I'd think.
>>
>>24329205
Yin and Yang are both female.

Gah, the Librarian entry on the Wiki was awful, had to almost totally rewrite it.
>>
>>24329318
Wait, I thought Yang was Yin's brother?
>>
>>24329318
Both are female? Well they just got more interesting
>>
Remember how Pierre recoiled from looking at the Librarian's aura?

I bet she has squiggly aura tentacles going everywhere.

Would explain dad's shuddering over the memory of fucking her, Pierres shock, and it would be pretty useful for picking up books all the time without getting tons of sorcery strain.
>>
>>24329449
>the librarian tentacle raped dad

Blehrgrgg
>>
>>24329449
I find that fucking hilarious.
I bet she's a sorcery major too, making it entirely plausible for real non-shitty TK
>>
>>24329380
>>24329446
I've never read anything that says otherwise.
>>
>>24329511
Somehow I thought I read something that said that....

....not that I'm complaining....
>>
>>24329530
I could swear I read they were brother and sister at one point.

Oh well, time to scour the archives.
>>
>>24329511
Both are female. That's why /tg/ was so intrigued with them in the first place, /tg/ loves lesbians.
>>
>>24329449
Could be that she's a spirit too. Maybe some sort of demon.
>>
>>24327843
I read "QM" as "CM"
Cock Master.
>>
>>24329544
I just scoured the archives... The only reference I can find to either of their genders is this:
>Yin blushes, while Yang says, "I play games with my sister a lot."

They even go out of their way to refer to Yang by name instead of "he/her", stuff like:
>"Will Yang be free any time soon?" you ask.
>"Well, that all depends on Yang, doesn't it?" responds Yin.

Maybe I missed it, but we don't technically know that Yang is female.
>>
>>24329530
>>24329542
>>24329544
>>24329545
Went back in the archives, and Yang is never referred to by any pronoun. But by the fact they're identical twins, it's unlikely they're different genders.
>>
>>24329675
So they're both girls, if what >>24329654 says is anything to go by. How exciting, identical, incestuous bondage sisters. If they have white hair, my boner is complete.
>>
Went through and found

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23162303/#p23165929
>Yin blushes, while Yang says, "I play games with my sister a lot."
Yin confirmed for female here

Nothing on Yang yet.

>>24329675
Never said identical either, could be fraternal.
>>
>>24329692
Who host each others' mind fork that syncs with physical contact.
>>
>>24329728
and may switch witch set of minds is primary and witch is secondary.
>>
>>24329751
That's just speculation, though.

Regardless, we should investigate further.
>>
>>24329751
>"Alexander Lee," he says. "Our youngest Lotus Master. Studied physical combat in every continent, master of every weapon he could get his hands on.

Still nothing on Yang, but looks like Alexander is out bowmaster.

>Which reminds me; we should totally get to work on a healing focus before we start our training with Master Lee. I mean. No reason he can't teach us martial arts along with weapon training, right?

We also need to get Lin to show us her healing spell
>>
>>24329905
We made a couple strain.

And they should all be strain really since we won't be casting heal until after fights, so each strain is worth three skill foci for heal.

But more would be nice.

The Librarian and Wendi
>>
>>24330102
We barely know what Wendi looks like. And she'd still be a little kid at this point.

Which reminds me; we got any plans for introducing our dryads to their sisters?
>>
>>24330124
I don't see the problem.
>>
>>24330074
We accidentally restore breakfasts whole mind in a partle repair gone wrong. Then have angry confused sex and convince her she likes her new life even though she remembers her old one.
>>
>>24330074

>>24330102
"Shut up, Snapple." (laughtrack, fade to credits)
>>
>>24330161
She remembers a lot of her old life. It's just that so much got ripped out by the mindvirus that she has very little recent memory.
>>
>>24330189
Derp, ignore that, I thought you said Lunch.
>>
>>24330189
That's Lunch.
>>
>>24330124
all of them but Wendy for sure. As for her we need to subtly find out from the librarian if that is safe for our daughters.
>>
>>24330213
I rely feel bad about not setting up Play dates with Wendy. Next time we see the Librarian we should ask how she is doing and if her biting problem has cleared up if so we can have a supervised play date IMO. Wendy and Selene will like it.
>>
>>24330262
Why waste your time trolling like, four people? Not that I'm suggesting you should shit up the threads when they're active, just questioning your effort-reward ratio.
>>
>>24330296
Hey man, if I didn't know without a shadow of a doubt that Wendi would murderfuck Selene to death, I would totally be all for a playdate. What would be funny is if they had some sort of inborn knowledge that they were related and became best friends later on in life even without our intervention.
>>
>>24330296
I'm not trolling. Plus that would make a good bribe assuming Wendy doesn't hurt our girls.
It has risk but i feel bad for Wendy not having friends her age and being excluded from her 5 other sisters.
>>
>>24330344
I doubt that'd be a good bribe.
>>
>>24330296
It'd be good to improve our relationship with the Librarian without having to give her bribes every time we met up.

It'd be best if we just asked about Wendy from time to time and, if we're sure it's safe and when we know our kids can take care of their selves, I'd be up for setting up playdates.

We're going to have a part-Jotunn daughter too, so she'd definitely be able to protect her two sisters in case things got....physical.
>>
>>24330344
She's imbued with the essence of one of the most don'tfuckwiththisthingever creatures on the planet and the librarian is patently insane and probably doesn't care about her or her daughter having friends.

So, trolling or dumb, pick one.

Although >>24330343 would be pretty funny.
>>
>>24330169
>Breakfast taking Pierre's virginity
It shall be done. I'll write a story about Breakfast discovering a recently-captured and -feminised Pierre while Max is off doing something else.
>>
>>24330360
We were able to get the Librarian to help us for free when we appealed to her sense of MOTHERHOOD by bringing up our dryad kids.
>>
>>24330343
Would you trust the librarian if she promised to keep Wendy from hurting our girls? I'm not sure ether way.

>>24330360
why we got in her good books talking about her daughter I'm pretty sure she loves Wendy. In a sick twisted way at least.
>>
>>24330390
The Librarian re-wrote her mind and put a spell on her that would gradually nullify Wendy's bad luck and improve it into good luck.
>>
>>24330418
And the librarian is a sociopath who thinks wendigos are cute. I wouldn't trust Selene alone with the librarian, much less the librarian and her wendigo daughter.
>>
>>24330418
And she only wrote out the murderous tendencies. To be honest, if the Librarian is capable of loving anything, what she did to the dryad is how I imagine she would show said love.
>>
>>24330449
That doesn't make her a sociopath.
>>
>>24330478
Snapple, I hate to break it to you, especially with your bright new shiny tripcode...
>>
>>24330418
exactly Wendy is much less dangerous than a normal Windigo dryad and that is much less dangerous that a real Windigo. She still is hot someone to fuck with though.

It would be hilarious if Wendy becomes best friends with our girls then when we open our school Selene convinces her to ask her Mom about her being our librarian that could be so cool.

>>24330449
>thinks wendigos are cute
I thinks she finds them impressive and wanted a near invincible daughter. That way she is safer to love as even another archmage would have a hell of a time taking her from her.
>>
>>24330449
She thinks Wendy is cute.

She probably fertilized the seed with a wendigo because of how much potential use there is in having a magic-eating berzerker daughter that you sic on anything.
>>
>>24330529
Shut up. Wendi is adorable.
>>
>>24330567
No, Snapple, you are the adorable one.
>>
>>24330567
We haven't even seen her, but we should definitely heed Dad's advice on Wendigos.
>>
>>24330532
I can't imagine there are even too many archmages who would want to tangle with her. But I guess she didn't get where she is now by having weakness, and she wasn't going to start with her dryad. So, admirable in a weird, shitty Scholomance way, I suppose.
>>
>>24330532
>I thinks she finds them impressive and wanted a near invincible daughter. That way she is safer to love as even another archmage would have a hell of a time taking her from her.

She may have even had other children and lost them in her rise or maintenance of power Dryads don't die of old age Love there grove mothers almost unconditional and if she uses windigo it is near unkillable the perfect child for an archmage.
>>
>>24330580
I don't need to see her. I know she's adorable.

Lunch Deepthroat training part two is now finished! It's a doozie, and really long, so forgive me if my cursory proofing missed any egregious typos. Probably the longest fapfic I've written since I started for this quest. It's got three whole scenes for your boners. A rather fun oral scene (for me to write at least), the "training" itself, and the "reward" fucking where I decided to have some fun with teasing Lunch.
