Good evening /tg/! Good grief, looking back, we've come a long way and we still have a ways yet to go! I hope you're all still interested, because it's time for another Civilization Quest! Not a new one, that is. I think at the moment, this is the longest-running quest currently on /tg/, if I'm not mistaken.

Thank you for your time, now let's get started!

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

Previous thread is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24189387/

The full archives are here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Red%20White%20and%20Britfag

The IRC channel is #Longfangs

Who's ready to get started?

Also, remember gents, granary today. We need it because out food loss is ridiculous. I'd suggest building it this turn since next turn will be winter and our tribesmen are little girls about the deep freeze situation.
>>
>>24282512
There are other ways to mitigate food loss, you know. For example, more preservation sciences.

B. Hunt and Fish with Derrik and Rina. Again.

>>
>>24282652
Seconding this.
>>
>>24282652
Rina and Derrik both agree to assist the tribe once more, knowing how winter is on its way and the tribe will need all the supplies they can gather. Together, they manage to bring in an almost excessive amount of food for the tribe.

The wise ones return to, once again, attempting to make some headway with their research into using stone to build. Their progress is still almost at a standstill.

Realising how little headway they are making, some of the tribe's wise ones split their attention and instead focus on a more immediate problem; keeping food safe and free from vermin and rot. They believe that, given a little more time, they can concoct a design for a dedicated storage building, that should cut back on waste, particularly for grains.
>>
>>24283383
I think we should focus research on the food preservation and granary for right now.
>>
>>24283467
I concur, sir.
>>
>>24283467
Would it be wise to focus on more intellectual development during the winter? As mentioned, we know the tribe are bitches about going outside, and they would probably get more head way made into stuff like maths, which could in turn help with some of the masonry problems we have.
>>
>>24283566
Yea, winter is the perfect time for staying at home and doing some homework.
>>
>>24283608
Yeah, now that we have performed a trade action ourselves, we have the basis for math too. Extremely valid point.

EVENT
Just as the entire tribe thinks Gerin and the devouts are gone for good, the warriors make a sudden return! Just as the first few flakes of snow start drifting down from the sky, Gerrin and Sallina and most, though not all, of the devouts return to the village. They immediately set themselves apart from their families, taking timber, tools and clay from the village's supplies (leaving the reserves of lumber and clay rather low) and starting to build a small longhall, near the site of Groza's shrine. Though they do not act distant from their families, it is clear to all that they are much closer to one another now, than to the village.
>>
>>24284086
Great, now we have a religious sect.

E. Wise ones look into the science of food preservation.

F. Announce the start of a new festival around the Goddess of Winter Khione. Winter shall now be a time of reverence for the many things that have happened to our tribe in the past year and hope for the future.

The hope is that the expanded Priesthood of Khione will go amongst the less fortunate of ours and neighboring tribes and offer assistance during the cold, hard months of winter.

G. Craft the food preservation hut.
>>
>>24284270
Secondiiing. Too bad we don't have the scientific method yet.
>>
>>24284158
Looks like Gerin and the Devouts made it back just in time for Khoinemas!

F)The time has come for a new holiday. A holiday of love. A holiday of snow. A holiday of fertility. A holiday of cheer. A holiday of spirit. This time of year is the time for all the tribe to come together and realize that they are one people. Have the Priesthood go around and help those less fortunate. Encourage others to give gifts to their loved ones.

E.) Food preservation.

G.) Granary.

Seconding for Khoinemas
>>
>>24284270
Second.
>>
I suggest we encourage practice with the bows, we could do with at least a few archers. It would certainly help with the Bear hunting. We do need to improve the bows, but if we have people training with them, it will help when we want to improve them.
>>
>>24284270
I'd like to clarify that we need to get in contact with the other tribes about sending our Priests into their village and such. This first celebration is more for planning than actual implementation. A feast will still be held and all of that good stuff, but we only have one priest of Khione so this year will be our recruitment and training year for the new acolytes. With next year actually being the first year we provide assistance to outside tribes.

This year we focus on ourselves, as it were.
>>
Also, be sure to make it well known that Khoine is a welcome appearance at the feast. To Khoine we gifted a name, and in this time of thanks and forgiveness we wish to express our great sorrow at the loss of Svell
>>
>>24284705
Good catch. I think Khione would be rather pleased to have her priesthood set up to help others through hard times and her blessing would go a long way towards legitimizing our ideas of turning her into a sort of Red Snowflake type of charity.
>>
Hey there, just wanted to ask whether it would be possible to take an active part of if the playerbase is already set. (Sorry for disturbing the game)
>>
>>24285003
Feel free to join, champ. New players are always welcome. I will warn you, however, that sometimes this moves a bit "slow."

And by slow I mean really slow.
>>
>>24285003

Yeah man, head on in!
>>
>>24285003
No worries. There's always room for more! Just join the Mibbit, or not. Folks will be happy to fill you in, but you should be able to pick up current affairs, if not the history of the tribe, fairly quickly.

>>24284270
The wise ones start their work on looking into food preservation and a better storage hut for the village's food. While there are no breakthroughs this moon, they feel they are very close to something significant.

The tribe also announces the Snowstouch festival! Named as such in honour of Khoine, the goddess of snow, the tribe is encouraged to give thanks and remembrance for the year past and to embrace hope for the year ahead, symbolised by the first snowfall. Knowing that the tribe is stronger together than apart, the festival is also a time of community and giving and there is much talk of sending aid to other tribes suffering in the winter. For now though, the festival is only local. Much good food is cooked, fires lit, songs sung and spirits are raised by the slightly more quiet and family-centred festival.

E. Continue food preservation.

G. Continue that food storage facility.

I. Expand our priesthoods Any which need expansion, that is. Especially Khione's since it will soon have a new role that will require more than single person to administer.

Also, ask Gerin about their journey and their extended stay in the wilds. Inquire as to what they found out there.

>>
>>24285511
As I said earlier, the priests need specific roles. Please refer to my post in the last thread Or was it the one before that? for more information. Actually, let me go dig the post up and get back to you on that.
>>
>>24285564
So as far as priesthood goes, we should begin establishing roles for the various temples and religions. Obviously, Groza is going to have the reigns in Warfare. Chani's priests are the Diplomats of the Riverlands, as well as the healers. Hrunti's priests are wise of the forest and of nature, and skilled in hunting all prey, man or beast. Think assassin druids with little powers

Yeneth's priests spread the love, officiating marriages and operating passion houses. Perwan's priests farm the lands and provide the tribe with food. Ermetha, as the Sun-In-Ascent, will take charge of those warriors wishing to rise to power through divinity. Think paladins of Pelor Marnath is the Sun-In-Descent, and his priests are the loremasters and guides to the more subtle magics of the Sun. Now think Clerics

I'm not sure what to do with Khoine though. Maybe her priesthood would act much like Marnath's, only dealing with Winter instead of Sunlight.
>>
>>24285511
I do believe we have a couple deities that only have a single priest or priestess. I meant with this option that we could ensure that in the eventuality that one of them dies, we don't need to train a new replacement from the ground up.

As we ask them to do more and more within our village, it only makes sense that we expand them a bit to meet demands and such to both the village and their respective gods.

I.E. Khione and Chani's priesthoods. They take on pretty good sized roles, or will, so expanding them makes sense.

>>24285551
This, yeah, an apprentice system. Not a full fledged priest.
>>
>>24285593
I would change Chani to Khoine. Chani's priesthood can be used for healing.
>>
>>24285608
Also, due to recent information, we shouldn't expand the Devouts for a while. They can replenish their numbers back up to 32 to make up for their losses during their pilgrimage, but no more than that for the time being.

As they do not hunt/fish/build anything, their continued expansion past their current 32 is becoming a burden to our tribe.
>>
>>24285635
>Khoine
She makes sense because we turned her priesthood into the salvation army, so they will probably be adept at spreading good relations.

Although Yeneth has something going for her as well.
>>
>>24285490
The wise ones make a great breakthrough! First, they find a few pieces of fruit that were dipped in honey during fall, have hardly decayed at all and are, in fact, a lot tastier; this leads them on the path to basic honey preservation!
>Honey preservation is not suitable for all foods, but lowers loss due to decay slightly.
Second, the wise ones come up with a novel idea for a granary, protected from the elements and constructed largely of pottery. Food inside will be kept dry and largely safe from vermin and should lead to it lasting a lot longer!
>The tribe can now construct granaries!

With the tribe enquiring regarding new apprentices to the priesthood, Yeneth's priestess, Naveen, agrees to look for an apprentice to teach the ways of her goddess. Likewise, Rina agrees it is time to look for a young protégée as well. Gerin nods and simply says that he will find his own successor, in time. Derrik has, of course, already chosen his trainees. Mikuhla, meanwhile, happily agrees to chose apprentices, to teach the ways of Ermetha and Marnath; he seems quite eager at the idea, in fact! Khoine's young priestess almost instantly inducts her two closest friends into the service of the snow goddess.
