Good afternoon, ladies and gents, and welcome to thread three of Demi Quest. I watched several seasons of M*A*S*H to help get ready for roleplaying life on the base.

Previous threads can be found here:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23881341
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23911732

We are Alex 'Ace' Hanger, pilot of the Demi known as Imperator. In the last threads we completed our final test to become full fledged Pilots of the Imperial Legions, then were shipped off to the deep jungles of the eastern front. There we, and our comrade, Danny Melon, helped fend off an attack against our new home base, and met the twins Rock and Roll. They filled us in on the basics of the enemy here, and welcomed us to our new home.

Currently we are standing guard while waiting for the commander of the base, Retter, to return from taking out the circles that were used to summon the Abominations which attacked us. The twins, Rock and Roll, are relaxing nearby, while Melon patrols the wall and you sit up on a short plateau.

Do you wish to ask more questions from Rock and Roll? The other people who call the base home are busy trying to finish getting the base back in order after the attack, so those two and Melon are currently the only people you have to talk to.

Melon, as far as you know, still has your book.
>>
>>23946301
hell no we are on guard duty, we are ever vigilant and silent searching the tree line for a target.
>>
>>23946362
This, we can relax when the commander comes back.
>>
>>23946301
Can't think of anything else in particular to ask. We can talk to them in more detail when we're off duty.

This man is correct. We hold the line for the Empire until told we may stand down!
>>
>>23946435

Though I will admit I fear for the sanctity of our precious first edition Marshall Trials.
>>
>>23946522
All the more reason to stay alert, if we can neutralize any threats before Melon has to enter combat, our book remains safe.
>>
You decide your time is best spent keeping a careful eye on the tree line, watching for enemies. The tree line is a good fifty yards from the base's wall, the trees having been cleared out to that far to give a good perimeter.

I need a Mind roll. 3 dice. I'll go ahead and give +1 for Sniper, since it seems to make decent sense to me.

>>
>>23946570
You keep your eyes peeled. You can see them, here and there. There's three... maybe, MAYBE, four out there. The gorrilla like creatures. One shudders and dissolves. The other two make note of it, and one breaks off.

The other keeps watching. You think it's watching, anyway. No eyes on these ugly bastards. It slowely stalks the perimeter. You could phone this in to any of your comrades, or you could just take a shot at it. It's your choice.

You play it safe and call it in. "Rock, Roll, we have a target at the paremeter, circling. There were two more, but looks like someone got one's circle, and the other broke off. Should I take it out?" You ask, keeping it in your sights.

"Negative, Imperator. Keep an eye on it, but do not engage unless it breaks from the tree-line. Our supply train out here is pretty poor, so every shot counts." The twins order, finishing eachother's sentences. Is telepathy a thing? It might be, the way they talk.

"Confirmed. I think I saw another, but I'm not sure. Reccomendation?" You ask, tapping your radar. Damn thing doesn't have much of a range on it. Might want to talk to 098 about that.

"Keep an eye on yours. Cheshire, keep your eyes open too. Not many of the things have ranged abilities, but you can never discount anything." They order.

"Copy." Melon says, keeping her patrol.

And so you wait. It's another two hours of keep an eye out, watching, waiting. The Abomination dissolves a half hour in. Rock (or Roll?) trades out with Cheshire so she can take a break, but you are ordered to keep on watch, since you have the longest range. Eventually, Rock and Roll pipe up.

"Alright, Cheshire, Imperator. Commander Retter is coming in now. He's accompanied by Volunteer and Pitcher. Imps, don't snipe them on accident, eh?" They cheer.

I'm going to need... two 1d2 rolls. Accepting only the first two linked to this. One die per post, please.

Out of the woods, after several moments of waiting, stalks three Demi accompanied by a dozen infantrymen. The first is a tall, thin one with a large warhammer in it's hands, with large, sculpted eagle-head pauldrons. The second is short and wide, with an odd shaped weapon in it's hands, and far larger than average legs. The third has a similar weapon, but is much taller and thinner, with a large antenna on it's back. All three are slathered in dark green and brown paints.

"Retter to base, coming in from successful mission." A quiet, male voice announces. The gates are openned and the three come in with their infantry. "I see the new recruits are here. Welcome, I am Retter." The cockpit opens on the lead, to show a tall man in uniform. "Alright. Pitcher, Rock, you're on guard. Volunteer, Roll, head to the temple hangar. New guys, follow them, they'll guide you to my office for debrief."

The taller camo'd machine and one of the twins head to the largest building in the camp, and you and Melon follow. Dropping off your Demi and your Engineers, you follow one of the twins and a tall, dark skinned man with a shaved head out into the camp.

"I'm Mara McGard. Tall, dark, and silent here is Vimes. No other name. No relation." The twin explains, happily skipping along. She's a head shorter than you, despite looking a couple of years older. "You're Danny Melon, obviously. And you are... a Hanger. You've got the nose and chin." She nods triumphantly. "So, I know you must have questions. Come, we can talk while we walk, the commander's office is on the other end of the base."

What do you wish to ask or say?
>>
>>23947377

" You've had experience with the Hangers?"

Also, nudge Melon and ask if our book is safe.
>>
>>23947377
"Questions? Well, we wouldn't mind knowing the situation here. Are there any non-hostile barbarians? I heard a rumor the supply chain is tenuous here."
>>
>>23947438
Inquire as to what the Commander is like, and ask if she has any plans for when she gets off duty. Also interrogate Melon as to the condition of our sacred tome.
>>
>>23947504
>a rumour
We just got told that, possibly by the twin who is currently with us.
>>
>>23947377
Ask about what sort of things we're likely to be doing round here, when we're not fending off weekly attacks.
>>
"Well, I wouldn't mind knowing what the situation is here. Are there any non-hostile barbarians? What's the commander like? Is the supply train as bad as I've heard?" You ask, proffessional curiousity overtaking you.

"Oh yeah, plenty of the tribes here are peaceful. A good number of converts too, most of the labor in the camp is done by them. Supply train is pretty weak, we have a hard time with the essentials. Fuel, ammo, food. THankfully though, like I said, plenty of converts out here. More than a few have farms." She muses. "Commander's a nice guy, kinda mellow, little lazy. He's sharp as all hell though, so don't think just because he's a nice guy he doesn't notice stupid shit." She warns.

"You work with a lot of Hangers before?" You ask, and she grins. "More than my fair share. Me and my sister, we did a lot of modelling for the Press corps. They liked the idea of twins. Especially cute northerner twins." She grins widely.

You nudge Melon gently, getting her attention. "Do you still have my book?" You ask, trying not to look TOO eager. She nods, patting her bag. "Yeah, right here. Don't worry, I'll take good care of it." She smiles widely. You contain your desire to dig through her bag and steal it back.

"And here we have the grand home of our dearest Commander, and I am not going in there, I'm pretty sure he knows what we did to the men's showers. Tata!" Roll says, skipping off.

Vimes rolls his eyes and opens the door of the small, one room building. Retter is at a desk inside, with a smaller side desk for a red eyed Engineer boy. "I'm glad you're here. Things are starting to pick up, and we could really use a new duo." He says, cheerfully smiling. "Hanger, Melon, hope you two are friendly, because you're working together from this point on. Sniper and spotter. Now, I've got reports here from several infantry and support on the events of the battle, so we'll skip that... Report to your barracks and set up your stuff."

Cont.
>>
>>23947897
"You're to report to your Demi and be ready for a mission at nightfall. You're first real mission. Hope you two are ready." He says. You both salute and are dismissed.

The base is yours to roam now. You could drop your gear off at your barracks or go ahead and look around first. It's up to you. You are free untill nightfall.
>>
>>23947897

Ask Melon is she'd like to see our bedroll and once seduced and in a post-coital haze steal our book back.
>>
>>23948085
How about we don't do stupid shit that will make our time here very difficult.
>>
Drop off gear, check on 098. Ask him to get details on the limits our our supply chain, and what it could mean for us and our combat style. See if he has his own place to stay. Find out if there's alcohol on base and if we can finally share a drink with the other half of Imperator.
>>
>>23947926
First things first, go drop our gear off, then go take a look around, see who we run into as we're exploring.
>>
>>23947926
Drop off our stuff and check up on the Demi for the upcoming mission.
>>
>>23947897
Talk to Melon as we head back with our gear, ask her what she thinks of things so far.

Then go check out the base.
>>
You head to the barracks. The pilot's barracks seem to be a collection of tents, each one housing two people. You try to find the one assigned to you (the number written on a piece of paper given to you by Retter), and end up in an olive drab one, heading in. Two beds, one stove, two shelves, the 'walls' of the tent are a semi-see-through mesh, made to be able to breath while keeping out insects and the weather. You drop your bag next to one bed (both are untaken, it seems), and stretch. Melon walks into the tent behind you.

"Find yours?" You ask, cocking an eyebrow. She still has her bag. Why is she putting her bag next to the other bed? Why is she taking the paper out of your hand and comparing it to the one in her hand?

"Yup." What? "I shouldn't be suprised, seeing as to the tents are pretty much see-through anyway." Wait, what? "What, don't want to be my roomie?" Ohgodwhat?

Your brain reboots as she heads back out. You follow her as she sets to snooping around the camp. You manage to reboot enough to "What?" She stops and shows you the slips of paper. Yup, both say the same tent, number nine.

It seems paired up duos are housed in the same tent. Volunteer and Pitcher. Rock and Roll. Imperator and Cheshire.

Will this be a problem, Pilot?
>>
>>23948338
No problem at all.

Think of the advantages...

By which I mean we can keep a closer eye on our precious book.
>>
>>23948338
No problem. How convenient that we're close. How about handing that book over?
>>
>>23948338
Not a problem. This is the military after all, got to expect this kind of thing.

You shrug and tag along. The base is a small place, but has a suprising number of locations. Mess hall, barracks, armory, office, temple hangar, officer's club, and the showers. You first head to the temple hangar to check up on your Demi and inform 098 of the impending mission. The hangar is far smaller than the one at the base you came from, able to house only a dozen Demi or so. Imperator, Cheshire, Rock, Roll, Volunteer, Pitcher, and Rampage (Retter's machine) are currently docked and not being repaired. 098 is busy painting Imperator carefully, working on getting a good camo in place. He slides down from where he is on the chest, and salutes as he stands before you.

"I understand there's an ammo shortage out here. How will this effect us?" You ask. He shrugs, and signs back. "Not so much a shortage, we just need to be sure of our shots and not waste them. As long as we don't shoot at every shadow, we should be ok. For a while, atleast. I have some free time, the painting is pretty much done. Is there anything you would like me to work on?"

You currently have 2XP from the Abomination sniping. Would you like to spend it on something? And if so, what?
>>
>>23948696
"Well there is one thing you might be able to assist me with...." Ace gives 098 a seductive look and says, "Melon has my First Edition MARSHALL TRIALS and she wont give it back!"
>>
>>23948696
I forget, how much did you say improved vision for our Demi would cost?
>>
>>23948836
2 for +1 Perception or Improved Range, 3 for both. Or 2 and then 1.
>>
>>23948696
no save it
>>
>>23948844
How about night vision, or would that fall under improved perception?
>>
>>23948864
Call it the same as the rest. 4 for the lot, or 2 for the first and then 1 for each other.
>>
>>23948895
I think night vision would be a good investment then, since we're about to go on a night mission.
>>
>>23948696
Can we get a way to remotely call our Demi?
>>
>>23948920
That, like the invisibility/cloak/active camo thing mentioned in the last thread, would be a special upgrade acquired in game for special missions.
>>
>>23948915
I second night vision. For a sniper operating in a jungle environment, being able to see in poor light conditions is a hell of a benefit.
>>
"I can think of some additions to Imperator I might want, but before that, want to get a drink?"
>>
>>23948946
I vote night vision.

what about a bird sized flying spotter robot?
>>
>>23948988
no drinking we have a mission tonight we need to be sober for.
>>
Considering that some people seem to be pushing really hard for Ace having some sort of relationship with 098, it does bear asking.

Doctor, what is the opinion within the Empire of Human/Engineer relations?
>>
>>23948964
Thirding the night vision.
>>
>>23948988
We have a mission in a few hours. Let's not turn up drunk.

Honestly, I wouldn't have such an issue with you 098 obsessives, if you weren't trying to push for something to happen with him EVERY... FUCKING... POST.
>>
>>23948946
I like cloak idea too. Also maybe we could look into getting some kind of thin silk or lace rode for 098.
>>
>>23949024
I am also curious because I think Twist and his engineer would be the cutest thing ever.
>>
>>23949024
Due to real world(ish) biological concerns, procreation between them is illegal, but relations are only discouraged.

>>23949002
To clear up any further requests: Anything involving even the simplest of AI would be a Special Upgrade.

While I am in favor of the 098 seduction I also want to seduce Melon if for no other reason than to get our book back.
>>
Where on earth is Marcus?
>>
>>23949135
>procreation between them is illegal
So how do they reproduce?

Are they grown?
>>
>>23949171
098 said he was made specifically for sniping, so I assume vat-grown.
>>
>>23949135
>but relations are only discouraged.
In that case, I'm against it, considering that Alex was fluffed as a stickler for Imperial law and a political animal, doing something that would make him look bad and possibly sabotage his career seems massively out of character.
>>
>>23949171
Procreation between humans and Engineers is illegal. Not between two Engineers.

Also. I am running and errand so posts might take a hit to quality.
>>
>>23949222
I wouldn't mind if it was a slow, gradual in character thing, as Alex and 098 fight side by side and come to develop feelings for each other, which Alex is deeply conflicted over against his desire to do his duty and make his family and the Empire proud.

So far I'm not getting that, I'm seeing post are post of "hey why not flirt with 098, we should totally fuck 098, let's go get drunk with 098, how about some sexy clothes for 098".

If Alex Hanger stops being the character he was fluffed up to be back in the first thread and becomes nothing more than a self-insert vehicle for some people's desires to fuck a fictional albino, I'm quickly going to lose interest in this quest.

"Our first operation is going to be tonight, and the jungle in general has poor lighting. Can you cook up some night vision in the next few hours?" You ask. He smirks and salutes, signing back.

"Of course! I'll have a prototype fabricated in the next couple of hours. A permanent rig will take more time." He promises, and climbs back up onto the Demi, pulling the curtain closed.

You decide to look around, Melon tagging along behind you, and head in the general direction of the mess. You note that Melon seems to be getting more confident, more calm, as she roams the base. She was incredibly shy and quiet at the last base, but seems to be coming out of her shell.

You spot infantrymen doing drills with spears off in a large lot. There's some natives in military uniform unloading a truck full of jars. The McGard twins are doing slow, almost dance light sparring in a dirt circle, and Melon breaks off to go chat with them. You finally reach the mess and wander in, getting a plate full of luke-warm food and sitting at a bench. The place is pretty empty, lunch was a little while ago, and dinner is not for some time yet, but you are hungry.

"Afternoon." A woman says, sitting down at the table. Wearing a pilot's uniform, she's tall and curvy, rather buxom, with long black hair. She smiles brightly. "You're Imperator, right? What's your name?"

"Alex Hanger. My friends call me Ace." You reply, setting down your fork. Her smile brightens. "I thought so! You have the chin." She says. "I'm Morda Sola, pilot of Pitcher." She reaches out and you shake her hand. "I wanted to welcome you to our camp! Things can be rough around here, but we call it home. I heard you have a mission tonight!"

"Yeah, I'm not sure what, but my partner and I are getting sent out." You explain. She nods. "First night and you're already getting thrown out there. Make sure and get some rest, yeah? Don't want to be dead on your feet out there."

Anything specific you want to say to her? Ask her?

Though we should certainly show 098 every courtesy, perhaps even share a drink and friendly conversation from time to time. The Empire teaches benevolence to the master, to better engender service in the slave. He is vital to us, and should be afforded appropriate respect.
>>
"Any idea what the mission might be about? Related to today's attack?" You ask, continueing eating. She looks around and leans in. "Yeah, I know exactly what it is. We spotted a rare breed of Abomination today, and couldn't find a circle connected to it. You're probably going out to hunt it down, or try to find the summoner." She explains, then sits back.

"Right. So you saw Imperator earlier, right? What did you think?" You ask, excited. She grins. "Sniper, right? That thing looked like it could do some damage. Were those shotguns on the wrists?" You nodnod. "Six inch flechetts, terror for soft targets, and no find day for armored." You proudly announce.

"That is so cool. Pitcher is a mid-range type, has this cool iron ball built into the right wrist that has a retractable chain. Good for crumpling armor, and pretty good at tripping people too." She explains. You nod. "Did I see you carrying a flame-thrower earlier?" You ask. She nods. "Standard issue for circle clean-up. Excellent for use against infantry, and has a way of just washing over cover." She explains.

The two of you talk shop for nearly an hour before she insists on shooing you off to go rest before your mission. You head back to the barracks and slip inside, coming face to face with Melon. "Hey. You should order some warm-weather uniforms." She muses, taking off the jacket of her normal uniform. Pilot's, on average, use a uniform that has loafers, heavy black wool pants, a long-sleeved cotton blouse, and a black wool jacket with a high collar. The uniform that Melon is changing into, you try to ignore that, is a pair of long black canvas pants that tuck into water-proof boots that go half-up the shin, and a short-sleeved shirt or tank-top that is made of cotton, along with an arm-band signifying a Pilot. Melon, you idly note, has chosen a white tank-top.

"Probably. I'm burning up in this thing." You say, taking off your jacket and tossing it onto your bag, which you have yet to unpack.

You lay down on your cot, sighing. "One of the pilots, Pitcher, suggested we should rest up for tonight. I'm going to take the advise." You explain, and Melon nods. "Wise. I promised to spar with the McGards, but I'll probably take a nap after. Talk to you later, partner!" She says, slipping out.

You quickly drift off into a dreamless sleep, hoping someone will remember to wake you up if you start to over-sleep.

And... I hate to do it, but that's where I am ending for the night. I have been ill most of the day, and I do not know if I can continue.
