THAT'S RIGHT, IT'S GAME OF THRONES QUEST.

You are William Bordain, Murderer Extraordinaire, Lord of Morderengard, and most Pissed off Lord in the Vale. You were given your lands for being a bad enough dude to flat out kill children for Robert Baratheon/Tywin Lannister. The problem is, nobody loves a kid killer. And your lands are full of people who hate you. Some for killin' kids, some for being A Lannister dog, and some because they hate anyone who doesn't shit in the woods like they do.

You've spent the last 2 years brooding in your castle, hating everyone, until two weeks ago, when you decided enough was enough, and went to war with everyone who hates you. If you didn't own a fantastic weapons-producing system, that might have been a risky decision. As it is, you've met your loudest detractor in the city, and beaten the snot out of him; you trapped and beat 300 Hill Tribesmen in a cunning pla, and soon your lands are going to be rolling in that sweet, sweet weapons trade money.

Although it appears your enemies are rolling in sweet, sweet, coin from realms you've never seen.

Which is worrying.
>>
>>23649496
We join our hero at his castle. His men have just returned from their trap for the wild-men, and revealed the strange coin.

(Using suggestion from last thread)
"Take half the coin, and share it among the men," you announce. "Grell, Finn, distribute 200 between yourselves and your captains, and 300 to the common man. Now that we're getting this under control, we'll be seeing a lot more coin in the future, and I want my men happy."

Finn beams at the idea. "Sure thing, Lord William."

You signal to Grell as he rises. He stops. You wait patiently for the coins to be gathered, and Finn leaves to start counting it all out. Once the room is you and Grell, you speak.
"Grell, We caught the man who was speaking against me." You pause, to let him respond if he likes. He does not. "And of all my captains, you are the best at getting information from unwilling sources. Will you...speak with the man?"
Grell smiles. "Yes. What you want know?"

>Well?

Silly me, forgot to include past threads in the first post for new people.

Here you go!
Thread 1: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23600893/
Thread 2: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23616738/

And here's a map of the Vale for you.
>>
>>23649789
Grell nods.
"That all?"
He pauses, then suggests, "You want come, ask yourself?"
>>
>>23649852
Sure why not We should also ask about the strange coins perhaps we should get our steward on that...
>>
>>23649889
Grell nods his understanding, and the two of you head down to the dungeon. On the way, he stops by the kitchen, and asks the head cook something. He sighs, and sends off two of his runners. He turns to you, "It'll make dinner a little late, milord, but I suspect that's no trouble, if you're up to what I think you are." He pauses for a moment "It's chill down there, milord. Do you want something to take the edge off?" He eyes Grell significantly, and you gather that he is not solely referring to the temperature of the rooms you are headed toward.
>>
>>23649972
You decline. Better to go into this with an empty stomach and clear head.

You continue down into the dungeon. Shamish, your head chef, was not wrong when he said it was chill down here. You gather your doublet a little tighter around yourself as you descend.

After a few minutes, you come to the chamber of Oskar Stone. Your guards nod at you and Grell respectfully, and with a touch of fear. Grell steps forward, and makes a series of requests of the guard to the right of the door. The guard's face tightens, and pales a little, but he nods, and departs.
Grell turns to you. "Will take little time, get what I need. You wish to speak with him first? Offer mercy, before my work begins?" He shrugs "Otherwise, we wait."

>Wait
>Talk
>>
Might as well talk, we lose nothing by doing so.
>>
>>23650083
Might as well talk.
Tell him that to our eyes, he looks perfect for the role of a man of the black, much better than the role of, say, a mangled corpse.
>>
>>23650176
>>23650301

You nod to Grell. "Better to give him a chance."

You step into the Chamber, and Oskar Stone awaits you. He is seated in a corner of the room, a chain around his arm connecting him to the wall. He looks up, and you see him go a little pale.
"Can't say I didn't expect you," he grumbles. His speech is thicker, and more breathy. "I think you cracked my damn breastbone with that hit, you whoreson."
You brush away the insult easily, and squat down to his level.
"Listen, Oskar," You begin. "I'm not an unreasonable man." He chuckles at that, low and dark. "I just need to know who you were working for. I know you're part of something, and I need to know who. Tell me, and I'll let you take the black. Don't and well, we'll have to put you to the question. And I can't guarantee you'll make it when Grell asks. So tell me what I want to know."

He pales even further. Apparently, the word of Grell's passion for this sort of work has reached the populace at large.

"l-alright. I'll tell you want you want to know. J-Just, keep him away from me!"

You ask about his employer.
"More of a Benefactor, you know? I mean, I was a squire to a Targaryen Loyalist, and he died in teh war. Suddenly, I've got nothing. I decide to come out here to the middle of nowhere, to be free of having to deal with that bastard Baratheon's edicts and ideas. Next thing I know, they put you in charge of the place. That was a burr in my saddle, and I mentioned it to a couple others. Then the news about...you know, came, and the people were afraid of you. Suddenly, I get this letter. Says that it's from a "friend" who feels the same way I do, and wants to help. Thinks I can rouse the people. Wants to support me while I do it. So I started speaking in taverns and stuff. Found people, talked to them."

"Then those filthy Hill people started attacking, and I saw it as a sign from the Seven. You can't defend your money, you can't control your people, the darkness was closing in."
He spits at your feet, and you note there's a bit of blood in it.
"Now I hear you're bringing down the hammer. Beat me in front of the whole town, some sort of trap for the hill men. There's no fuckin' justice in the world."

The logical choice is the Master of Coin Gilmont Redwyne. But he is in King's Landing, and that would take a while.
Closer to home, there's one man who could help you. Petyr, of House Baelish. He's known to be clever with coins, and rumor says he may be the Master of Coin in a hand's worth of years or so.

>>23650937
"Motivated? ..." He sighs. "With me gone? Not really. There was enough Targeryen sympathy to keep the people mad, and I kept it going. There's a couple folk, people who make their wealth through non-mining means, who dislike your preferential treatment to the metalworkers. I played on that sometimes. I had a couple people who met me regularly, and believed in my cause, but I bet they've burned those ties now that I'm caught. Other than that, bags of gold were sent to my room at my preferred inn, with letter encouraging me to keep speaking out, that the people were rising behind me. There wasn't like, a riot when you caught me, was there?" He asks hopefully. You shake your head.

He sighs again, and hangs his head
"I think I was played for a fool. Someone wanted the people riled, and I served that purpose. Gods, I am shit at picking people to follow."

"Well lets hope you'll have more luck at the Wall. Goodbye, Oskar Stone."
>>
May I suggest a middle ground?

He has spoken treason, but only acted against you. Therefore, clearly, the fault is with his tongue.

He can serve the Night's Watch, his tongue can be nailed to a post in the town square as an example.
>>
>>23651194
I don't think you understand what taking the Black means.
>>
>>23651230
I can live with this
>>
An effective demonstration. I agree with the tongue cutting!
>>
>>23651230
Let's leave the choice up to him.
Leave in relative dignity but serve the Night's Watch for the rest of his life, or be painfully and publicly humiliated for a comparatively brief period of time and then get on with his life.
>>
>>23651230
>>23651263
I think we should do it in the town square to make an example of him and then let him go off to the wall.

>>
>>23651321

Why would you think that?

I think it'd be more likely that he'd be flattered that he'd inspired somebody to start up a similar game.

Also, I think Page said that he plans to wrap up his quest by Saturday -- that's pretty damn fast.

Do you really think that Princely is going to show up so soon, and then as soon as he sees another Game of Thrones thread, he's going to abandon all hope and give in to despair, without even trying or what?
>>
>>23651346
Bets on us dying a horrible death?
>>
>>23651346

>>
>>23651230
>>23651108

I honestly think we should try using him. Have him talk to the people and say we're a miserable bastard, but not unreasonable.

See if we can use him to persuade the smallfolk into thinking less bad things of us. (Not saying they should love us, but at least not want to run a spear through our neck)
>>
>>23651242
>>23651263

Alrighty, glad we settled that.

>>23651108

"You'll find no dissension from me, Oskar," you say. "Tell me, can you read and write?"
He nods.
"Good, you'll need that. For while your actions against me are forgiven by taking the Black, treason cannot be excused. Luckily for you, you have only SPOKEN treason against his majesty Robert Baratheon. Thus, your tongue shall be cut out in the town square, and affixed to a post, to remind the people of the cost of loose words. Then we shall send you off to the Wall, where you will live out your days."

He opens his mouth, clearly about to protest, then realizes he has no choice, and subsides.
"By the Seven, boy," he says. "The Smith forged you hard as your iron."

You step out, and gesture to Grell. He seems disappointed, as he stands there, surrounded by four buckets of water, and a variety of metal vises and clamps, but he nods his understanding of your choice.

>>
>>23651503

Sorry about that. Went to make myself tacos, discovered I didn't have tortillas.

Anyway, THE NEXT DAY.

You awake early in the day, and rise, stretching yourself. Today you hope to learn what you can from the captured Hill Tribes, and to banish Oskar to the wall. Your morning reverie is interrupted, however, by Egar.

"Milord, if you are free, we have Raw Iron in need of striking."

His words send a shiver of guilt through you. This was the customary phrase that signified another man was joining the Bloodsmiths, and you were needed in the ritual. Which means that one of them must have died in the raid. You had not thought to ask Egar of the few he had sent with Finn and Grell.

Will you tend to this duty before reviewing the reports?
>>
>>23651471

I maybe late for discussion about his punishment, but if I may suggest that we surprise him at the town square with the option to keep his tongue if he retracts all his previous statements and speaks against those who conspire against our rule. The poor bastard will most likely breakdown crying thanking us for our mercy and make the best speech of his life just to keep his tongue. And this will surely earn us good reputation with people.

But we will of course execute some hill men the same day to keep our reputation and cement our position. What do you guys think?
>>
>>23652218

Yes. Even if it turns out that nobody died, it's probably fairly urgent business that may be related to our other problems.

Dress briskly and go with Egar.
>>
Tend to the raw iron first. The men must have their leader.
>>
>>23652218

Yes, tradition most be observe also ask Egar why we weren't inform of someone in the Bloodsmiths dying.
>>
>>23652218
>Will you tend to this duty before reviewing the reports?

Yes
>>
>>23652218

This is not just a duty, it is one of our most important duties. We may be a butcher, but we hold our troops, especially our elites very close to us. We do this before breakfast. It's that important.
>>
>>23652364
>>23652375
>>23652379

"Of course, Egar!" You dress quickly, and descend the castle with him. "You did not tell me one of the Bloodsmiths fell, Egar."
"A slow wound, milord," he rumbled as he followed you. "He passed in the night. Gerwin. We will tend to him on the morrow. But today, you must not seem vulnerable. So Simmon will be struck."
"He has passed the other tests?"
"All of them, milord" Egar spoke with a hint of reproach. He was a man of great jest when the mood was upon him, but of such things, he would have been methodical to the ways of the Bloodsmiths.

Finally, you reach the Blacksmith's forge. Ilwin nods his head to you as you enter. No doubt he has been up for some time, aiding Simmon. A fine Greatsword rests against the forge wall, freshly smithed, that night and morning if you had your guess.

Your Bloodsmiths fill the tight space. Each of the twen- nineteen, now-in full regalia, their armor reflecting the light of the forgefire, their red gauntlets catching the light. Their aprons, long and red, with your insignia across the chest, standing where another unit might wear tabards. Simmon knelt before the fire, sweating from the heat this close to the flame. As you enter, the rest of the number kneel.
You've only needed to conduct the ritual a few times, but the words stick in your mind.
"Who is this before me?"
"Iron, milord" Simmon answers without looking up.
"Iron is a what, not a who."
"I am the Iron that will guard you from your foes, milord. I am the iron that has forged itself to a weapon against your enemies. I must be struck, milord, that I might strike in turn."
"Then I shall oblige you," you say, and you step to the forge, and draw the brand from it. The tip is red from the heat, and you can feel it a foot from your face. This close, the air smells of burning. "But recall, Iron suffers in silence. Do not cry out."
"I shall be as silent as the tomb that awaits our enemies."
The words spoken, you press the brand against his chest.
>>
>>23652639
There is a crackle, as when bacon strike a hot pan, and the air fills with the smell of burnt hair and cooking meat.
You see Simmon's teeth clench, and he inhales deeply, his back arching from the pain. You hold the brand just long enough, and then you withdraw it and cast it aside. The mark of your house burns red on his breast. You extend your left hand, and one of your Bloodsmiths fills it with a wineskin.
"You have been struck, and now you shall be tempered."
You pour the wineskin over his burn, the touch of the liquid causing him to flinch again. It is hot, and thick, and red. A mixture of mulled wine and Gerwin's blood.
"Now rise, Simmon, of the Bloodsmiths"
As Simmon rises before you, his armor is brought to him, and he dons it. He dons the apron of the bloodsmiths as well, and his new blade, forged by himself that night and day, is handed to him.
"You will be death to those who mean me harm, and when the time comes, I will bear the burden of your passing."
"So I swear, milord."
"It is done."
And with that, the other Bloodsmiths applaud, many clapping either you or Simmon upon the back, some both. One or two clap Simmon upon the chest, and he claps them upon the chest as well.

Your duty done, you return to your chambers to hear from your steward.

You sit with him, eating, and going over the new numbers. Now that you've taken a stance, and broken Oskar and wounded the Hill Tribes, order is beginning to come to your lands. And the last shipment of weapons netted you a great profit.

"Finally we aren't living hand to mouth, boy. It's great. Within year, we're going be a force to be reckoned with in the vale. What's your current plans for getting those uppity bastards in the Eyrie to notice us?"
>>
>>23653114

Looking over the table again, what you might want is to actually use your Power stat. You can transfer Power into Law on a 1:1 ratio, essentially turning all your currently soldier-ready candidates into law-enforcement.
>>
>>23653492

While I like this idea, what else can we do?
>>
Rolled 2 + 2

>>23653492
Is it possible to turn population into law? Exiling Oskar's supporters and driving out the Clansmen or something along those lines.
>>
>>23653438

First we most secure our lands, I can not play at court while my lands suffer from banditry, corruption and lawlessness. I could not do for Lord Jon's Steward at the Eyrie to admonish for the state of my lands. I want the hill men interrogated along with the traitor of the mine. Corruption while be deal harshly there and the hill tribes most be driven from my lands if proper order is to be establish. Once this is done we may begin to plan a resettlement of the local farms by the refuses.

>>23653583

Technically I think we kind of can, but we have to use influence with it I think, I'm really fuzzy on the rules for that.

Basically we turn Oskar's supporters into iron workers, up the law with power and use the influence to send them to the mines.

At least I think that's how it works in general.

If I'm wrong, then we can use a bit of our influence to bargain with the hill fucks and say to them, look, after that ambush, ya'll need to get the message and fuck away. Go bother someone else. We can use influence to force that. Hell, send them to our neighbors who probably were behind it to begin with.
>>
>>23653554
>>23653492

We should do this get our law back to a reasonable place.

Here's a list of all the options your house has on a monthly basis.
The resource exchange table is included.

While you decide on that, Korbis will press on with other news.
"I ask because you've got a letter from the Eyrie, lord. And another from your neighbors to the North, the Tolletts. You may want to look at those. Other than that, something came up in the dungeons this morning. But it can wait til you're done with the letters."

What first?
>Eyrie
>Tollett
>Dungeon
>>
>>23653711

We will not bargain with the hill tribes, we can easily drive out by force and give our troops experience with easy targets.
>>
>>23653757

Put something into law, and deal with the Dungeons first before the Eyrie, then the Tollets.
>>
>>23653757
Dungeon, then Eyrie, then Tollett
>>
>>23653757
>Eyrie

Plot ho!
>>
>>23653793
>>23653785

I'll handle the news, while you discuss how much to put into Law.

>Dungeon

"Well, sir, turns out there was a reason there were so many of the bastards on that raid. Looks like they were lead by the son of the chief of the local tribe, and now we've got his ass cooling in a stone cell. He demands to talk to the "Chief of Iron". What do ya want to do with him? He says his father's a great chief, and will wage war on us for his return."
>>
>>23653757

We should exchange 10 influence into law and also try to ingress it the old fashion way hunting and driving the Hill tribes away from our lands.
>>
>>23653871

Oh, is that right? Well, we most speck with the boy, have him tell us where we can find his father so they can be reunited as soon as possible. They can will keep each other company in the cell and later on the executioner block.
>>
>>23653956

Do you think we could try to ransom him back? I'm not sure if the mountain tribes have anything we want in particular, and they may not honor any promises that they make with us for very long.
>>
>>23653871

Sorry, 4chan ate my post a couple times.

>Eyrie.

Apparently Lord Arryn is returned from his mission to Dorne, and in honor of his return, and to introduce his new wife, there is a fete at the Eyrie in four months. You have a month or two to arrange for your departure. Your attendance, while not demanded, is heavily expected from the reading of the missive.

>Tollett
He must have gotten his raven yesterday, because he write that he wishes you to come visit for a week before the fete, and for you to ride together to the Eyrie. "To better safeguard each other from these barbaric Hillman, and to foster good relations as neighbors"
>>
>>23653871

Interrogation is in order. Numbers, camps and raiding routes.
>>
>>23654067

We should attend the fete and I don't see why we shouldn't travel with Lord Tollett.
>>
>>23654060

They have stones and sheep they one thing they can give us are their heads and peace once we remove them. Just make sure to get the stolen shipments back.
>>
>>23654155
We need to instill order before we leave.

We should probably announce that we are leaving before we do so, and let Korbis take charge, with orders to be brutal to dissenters.
>>
>>23654067

What do we know about Tollett?

Does he hate us? Do we hate him?

For that matter -- what are our relations like with our neighbors in general?

We have a lot of Influence, but it seems that our character has a balance between being Influential, and being Hugely Unpopular.. What kind of people usually try to make Bordrain's acquaintance?

How do people usually react to Bordrain? How do they act around us?
>>
>>23653872
Are there any voices against this choice?

>>23653956
>>23654060

"Let's speak with the boy," you state. Korbis nods his head. You finish your breakfast, and descend the castle to the dungeons for the second time in two days.

Korbis leads you straight to his cell. You step in, and the captured man stands up. He's tall, as tall as you are, and a little thinner. But where your frame is clearly unfinished developing, his is lean and hard, like a steel cable wound tight. His body and face are painted, with red around his eyes, and a snarling fanged mouth on his jawline. His body bearing intricate patterns and whorls on his body. He wears leather pants and shoes, and a neckalce of bone. He smells like he killed someone in the raid, and hasn't touched water since.
"You. Boy. I Luuk, Son of Tor, Chief of the Painted Dogs. Send me your Chief of Iron! He will want to hear what Luuk say."
>>
>>23654185
Or we could crush their will and make them kneel before us.
'Chief of Iron' has a nice ring to it.
>>
>>23654067

Respond to lord Tollett that we will gladly join him on the way to the Eyrie and its our hope to foster good relations and friendship with him. I guess that only leave us two months to hunt the hill tribes.
>>
>>23654208
...We could play along, or we could punch him in the face.
>>
>>23654206

Bordain is a SINISTER and REVILED lord. Your very presence puts those who know of your deeds and history on edge. Which is not to say you do not have any friends, merely that most people's initial reactions are fear and disgust.

You are known to have spoken with ROBERT BARATHEON, and were once the squire of TYWIN LANNISTER. Many suspect you will be POWERFUL in time.

Of late, you have had little contact with outside forces. Remember, at the end of the war, you were a 15 year old boy who had to murder a 7 year old defenseless girl. You've spent the last two years MAD to outside observers, dwelling mostly within your grim castle.
>>
>>23654305

... Huh.

So... Why would anybody want to have anything to do with us? Such as Tollett?
>>
>>23654290

Lets, hear what he was to say, then make him say what we want to hear.
>>
>>23654345

Maybe Lord Tollett wants to test how sharp his new sword is?
>>
>>23654345
Potential explanations?
-It's been two years, and you haven't invaded his lands. Maybe he assumes you got over it.
-Maybe he wants something, and hopes that being kind to you will help him get it.
-Maybe he's just a nice guy.

(As a note: Reviled just means everyone starts one disposition worse than normal. So if Tollet's normally an Friendly guy, he'd still be Amiable, which is above Indifferent.)

>>23654359
"You speak to the Chief of Iron, Luuk. I am William."
There is a beat. Luuk looks at you more closely.
"...Yes, Luuk heard The Chief of Iron was young. And a hard, sharp youth. You have seen much death. Luuk hears you slew the daughter of a great chief while she was still a child. Is this so?"
>>
>>23654476

>>23654476

I've slain sons AND daughters Luuk. And to be truthful, it would please me greatly to add you to that tally.
>>
>23654521

You nod your head.
"Yes. And I am also quite adept at slaying sons as well, Luuk."
He laughs.
"Good. Better to kill viper young than let her
grow and rise against you." He smiles. "Chief of Iron would be a fine Painted Dog. Now, Luuk offers deal. Tor, Luuk's father, has many many men. More than all the deer in the Vale. He will war with Chief of Iron if Luuk is slain. Luuk does not think Will-yam or Tor will survive if they war, so Luuk offer words of wise: Painted Dogs are bought with gold, but we are won with Iron." He nods his head, as if his point were clear to even a child. (SECRET DM ROLL)
And it is. Of course the Hill tribes respect strength more than wealth, they are a poor people.
"So I must show the Painted Dogs that I am Iron, Luuk?"
"Chief is clever. Yes. Send Luuk back. Luuk will speak to Tor. And the Painted Dogs and Your Ironmen will meet, and we will see if Tor's Iron is stronger than Will-yam's."
"And if it is?"
"Then all that Will-yam has is Tor's. Unless he wishes to make war to prove his Iron is in numbers, not his arms. Then there is war. But if Will-yam show his Iron stronger than Tor's...Luuk can convince chiefs of the Painted Dogs that it wiser to test our Iron against men who thought us weaker than Gold."
>>
>>23654682

I say we should agree to this.

Possibly a great alliance, plus I doubt we'd be able to muster up enough soldiers to fight them in a war.

And we can potentially stop a good amount of raiding as well as the smallfolk possibly seeing us as more reasonable than a blood-thirsty baby killer.
>>
>>23654682
In theory this sounds like a good deal...but I keep thinking about the duel we just fought and how /tg/'s dice nearly fucked us over there...
>>
>>23654747

You see I have my own proposition to you luuk, you tell me what I need to know or I will do this things to you and then return you to your people alive so that you may live your days a cripple in their care.
>>
>>23654798
They're just as likely to fuck us over if we do things the other way.
>>
>>23654850
None of that.
You can't threaten one of the Hill Tribesman with words.
And if we do it by actions than that entire avenue is closed.
>>
>>23654747
>>23654798
>>23654832

Hill tribes cant be trusted and our reputation with the rest of the lords of the vale will suffer and made us look weak if we made deals with them. Evidence and experience had show that even with superior numbers we can make piecemeal out of them. They steal from us and they most pay.
>>
>>23654893
>and they most pay

They will, in time.

But for now, an alliance seems the best option to me.
>>
>>23654908

Why? We have a lot of them capture, we can know where the rest of them are and deal with them easy enough by force. The rest of the lord of the Vale will think us weak for making deals with the tribes went every other lord drives them out. In the worse case scenario Lord Arryn punish us for helping enemies of the Vale.
>>
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html

Archived it.

Alright, it looks like the consensus is to agree to the alliance, and if necessary, go to war.

Following that course.

"Very well, Luuk, we will test my Iron against your father's."
Luuk smiles.
"Good. Chief of Iron is wise. Give Luuk one moon to arrange the meeting. We meet on the hills of Will-yam's land."
He gestures to his chain.
"Luuk will be freed now?"
You walk out of the cell, and have the guards release Luuk. You note that he doesn't ask for the other captives to be released.

Luuk goes on his way, and you write off ravens saying Yes, you'll certainly attend the fete, and you'd be happy to visit Lord Tollet and ride with him.

Finally, you call Merrick into your chambers, and you negotiate out a new regimen of guards for the town proper, a new magistrate, and barristers. It takes some convincing and wheedling, but you get it done. (10 influence exchanged for Law)

(NARRATIVE TIME: Having achieved this, you can now skip to next month, where you will roll for House fortunes, and then enact the meeting of William and the Painted Dogs. If you wish to focus/practice anything in this time skip, announce it now.)
>>
Even if we aim to eradicate them, it is best to make an alliance now. We gain some cheap muscle, and relative security with which to build up our holdings to their true glory.

If we really want to kill them we can do it later. Our reputation won't exactly nosedive for taking deals with the tribesmen or for betraying them, considering how we're thought of already.
>>
>>23655002

Where will we get the soldiers for this war?

Plus, in exchange for what is basically a statement of fact (That Will-yam's steel is better than Tor's), they're willing to stop raiding and looting.

I don't see why we need to waste lives to solve this issue when they're openly wanting the easiest requirement for an alliance that I can think of.
>>
I mean do you seriously believe the shit he is saying about us not surviving the war after the routing them as hard as we did?

Alright then, you proceed to the battle.

You muster Ser Clamon, Grell, Finn, and Egar. All told, your forces number 240 men, though 40 of those are cavalry or the Bloodsmiths. You functionally brought the equivalent of Four hundred men.

Tor does not have as many men as there are deer in the Vale. But 700 is an enormous force any way. You've heard rumors that maybe as much as 5000 people live among the Hill tribes. If true, that means that one of every five of them was a Painted Dog. You understand your mystery opponent's actions now. Such a force is worth a great deal. You're outnumbered three to one.
You and the Bloodsmiths ride forward, and are met by Luuk, and 6 other men.

Tor is broad and tall. Not as tall as his son, or you, but enough that some of the men in the counsel seem like children when compared to you three. His right eye is milky and white, and his beard has a hint of grey in the mustache. Unlike his son, he wears huge slabs of metal. He carries a sword and shield.

"You are the Iron Chief?" He asks, turning to Egar's massive form. Luuk taps him, and whispers in his ear. He turns to look at you.

"You? You are a stripling boy! Tor's Iron was hard when your father's rod was!"

For now, i kneal to the Chief of The Eyrie, and bow lower still to the King of Stags. You may laugh of a king of Stags, beasts men hunt, but this man is a walking battlefield, who's fury tore these lands asunder, and ground dragons beneath his heel. I've killed the blood of the dragon, let it's hot blood grow cold him my hands, yet i did not slay the dragon as the stag king did.

You wish to keep your wilds, do as i do. Build these walls of stone and make the people Want to give you their food. You can Feast, instead of starve, your can florish, instead of cower in the cold.

But most important, you must Kneal to the better man. I am a southern lord, and i have bested you. Yet, i kneal, to eagles, and lions, and stags. Those men, are better than a thunderstorm.

Lord Tor though, has a certain ring to it.

We could set him up as a bannerman, using out influence to set him up as a minor, minor, minor lord with his own lands, who of course, pays fielty to us. His lands? realistically as far as the mountains rise, so long as he can hold them with his mountain tribes, we teach him the southern way, sneak in the way of the seven while carousing and feasting.

He might grow antsy though, the want of combat not lusted by the hillmen that fight against it, That, is when we show him the Melee, and the Joust. Learning that when you beat the man from his horse, you win the beast, and his armor, will be a nice raiding homage for him.

In all honestly we don't give a fuck how he or his people live their lives as long as they stay out of our business and don't damage our reputation.
So if he and his tribe keep the 'southern ways' only when there's company, and go back to traditional ways when not, who gives a shit as long as they're quiet about it.

Eh, its unlikely he could serves us but I am happy so as long he goes somewhere else to raid. With his tribe gone we can start resettling the farms.

Tor nodded his head.
"One chases a snake to its head. Sadly, I know not his name, or it would be yours. And you learn it, you may demand of the Painted Dogs that they pay him back as he paid you.I can tell you this much, he wore a pin in color of the dark bruise, or the setting sun-sky."

"I am told that your colored pins are like the paints of your kin, yes? Then he is of the bruise colored kin."

With that, his six chiefs arrive, and present you with the fee they were paid: gems. An entire chest of gems. Perhaps not a king's ransom, but a lord's, easily.

(Intimidate check: MARGINAL SUCCESS)
Tor looks at you with something like wonder in his eyes.
"This King of Stags is a fierce warrior indeed. And you have felled dragons? Truly your men's Iron is terrible and great."
He mulls over the idea.
"So Tor must kneel to you, and his people will have homes to shelter them from the wind and rain? And be given your great Iron, rather than be forced to steal it?"

He is silent.

"Tor cannot speak for all the Painted Dogs, for this is a new way, and a strange one. But, if you can speak to Tor's chiefs, and they assent, then the Painted Dogs will become Men of Iron."

YOU'VE GAINED: HOLY SHIT, A SHIT TON.
LIKE, +10 WEALTH
+5 LAW.
AND MORE NEXT TIME, ON KNOCK-OFF GAME OF THRONES QUEST!

If you're still here, feel free to talk about stuff. But that's the show for tonight.

Then: If you do not wish to starve, cease raiding my lands. Help my people, build my walls, till my fields, clear my farmlands. I will reward work and honest toil as a smith rewards raw iron - with shape, purpose, and care.
Hillmen you may be, and if you keep your wild ways I only ask that you serve me should I call in time of war. But if you aid me and mine, we will see that you are rewarded in peace, as well.
I may be fury. I may be hard, even cruel when necessary, but I will keep my word and I will see that you and yours are treated with as much kindness as you work to earn.

Ditto this. If we can push him into adopting more 'civilized' ways, thats good. If not, I'm content to simply have him as our vassal and source of troops in an emergency.
>>
>>23657047
Due to the brief nature of the quest, are we guaranteed a bad end?
Or are we allowed to leave William Bordain having sorted his shit out and being as happy as someone fueled by greed and hatred can be?
>>
>>23657047
Schweet. Side question, do we already 'technically' own the lands the tribes are on, or would them joining us add to our total landed holdings?
>>
>>23657100
I'm debating that at the moment.
I know that some of the benefits are going to depend on the number of chiefs you sway, and which chiefs you sway, and a few little twists.

>>23657095
Right now, I am aiming for you to get as close to a happy end as you can, with the Ivan Drago rule in effect: "If he dies, he dies."

Although I have been hiding your destiny points from you, so you have a few trumps.

Also, I need to look over combat, because you are terrifyingly good, and I can't tell why.

We are a walking god of war!

But anyway, thanks OP, catcha next thread.

We're the Iron Chief of Murder Keep, the squire of the Mountain that Walks.
Shouldn't terrifyingly good be expected of us?

Yeah, man it was really good. Cant wait for tomorrow.

We're good, because we've been in the company of some of the best.
If we were The Tywin Lannister's squire, when he was Hand of the King, we were present in King's Landing with men like Barristan the Bold, and the Sword of Morning. No suprise that a squire trained in the same yard as the King's Guard, that he doesnt pick up a few things. Think against, Tywin, when he could have any number of groveling lord's take their child to squire, he takes us? Does our father hold greath wealth, or has he built himself and his son up as loyal lions? The Mountain would be Tywin's Hammer, and us? "the Molehill"? His pick, his chistle. We chip away at the problem removing it from the source, while the hammer ensure's there's nothing left, not even rubble.

We're good, because we know who was our better, we watched, and we learned, like the stalking lioness does watch and wait, reading the herd before striking.
