After following the wizard Zelligar's familiar Mr Fuzzyboots to the pyramid of Cynidicea, the party met with the Brotherhood of Gorm, who sought to restore the lost city to its former glory. They offered to return to help map a safe path through the tomb level, and then headed off to Castle Gygar. There, they destroyed a decoy Bargle, battled a shadow monster, and met Scylla the medusa. After Echo seduced her, she gave them gold, and a map leading to the grave of Maeglin, where she believes the magic sword Anguirel is buried. She wants the party to use it to kill Bargle, since he's a massive jerk.

Well, the two of you could go to Cynidicea, or go to Gondolin to pick up a magic sword
>>
>>21780297
Hm. Echo called dibs on killing Bargle with the sword, so best leave that until he's back, in my opinion. We got two thieves, three fighters, and a cleric, along with four dogs. I think we can do okay in Cynidicea.
>>
>>21780297
MAGIC SWORD

Can the cleric use it, because McGuffin?

Also - can we get a dwarf/elf/wizard to reforge it from Anglachel to Gurthang?
>>
>>21780340
oh - well that's true, Echo called dibs. I just wanted to SECURE the sword, not use it to kill Barglies. Let's do Cynidicea for now, then! Jenai wants to infiltrate.
>>
>>21780362
It already had been, and shattered by Túrin's suicide. Bargle's master named it Anglachel again when he reforged those fragments, to try to compare himself to Eöl.

And it would take at least a month for the sword to be reforged but yeah it can be done
>>
>>21780362
Sword, thus cutting, thus me no use-y. Sad, but them's the shakes.

We can secure it if you want, I'm just guessing that with Cynidicea would be more traps, Gondolin more fighting.

>>
>>21781129

Would totally burn 4wis for 1Dex but I can assume that ain't happening.

He's your typical amoral thief.
He doesn't enjoy hurting people but he doesn't care if people get hurt either. Just wants to get paid for work. Hence the contract in his inventory.
>>
>>21781155
"Is it even possible to talk to these... Things? If we tried it, they'd probably attack us. I pray other travelers do not come upon them, if we leave them alone..."
>>21781176
You can do that as far as I know. Although you would wind up burning four wis for two dex instead.
>>
>>21781176
4 wis can win you 2 dex, or 2 wis for 1 dex

If the party agrees, you could have gone along with them. Levelling up has made Jenai skilled enough for the thieves guild to grant her a small territory and time for pickpocketing, and you could know her through being assigned as a lookout for her.
>>
>>21781223
I dun mind.
>>
Looks like Dredge wants to start off in town. Dredge, you know the first thing you have to do is find the "Thieves' Guild" as most criminal fraternities call themselves. They generally don't take kindly to outsiders working on their turf.

You guys still have to deal with the ogres, as they're in your path.
>>
>>21781223
Popping Dredge in town.
Dredge is your typical amoral thief.
He's evil, but content with it.
No brooding inner darkness
No gloating or obsession
It's just a thing he does, and to him, it's the most normal thing in the world.

Dredge shows up in Misty after being run out of his old town.
Dredge immediately starts searching for various business contracts in Mistamere:
The Local Theives' den. They'll get him started on jobs and stuff.
A Necromancer, Butcher, or someone who'll buy sentient kills
A Slave trader, Crime lord, or someone who'll buy sentient living
Connections to a Black market, to sell contraband such as evil items
Connections to a Fence for regular stolen shit
A means of hauling the items, corpses, and sentients
[if the above is not a stable] A seller of dogs and beasts of burden
Paid jobs for an amoral thief/murderer
Adventuring parties okay with an Amoral or Evil age
>>
>>21781366
Evil agenda. Last part got cut off.
Also, Dredge is on the look out for retainers that are either Obedient slaves or okay with Amoral evilery.
>>
>>21781349
Alvaro votes to kill them. "I do not feel right leaving these brutish things to do as they wish, to prey upon any hapless travelers they might chance upon. Killing them would make the the mountains safer."
>>
>>21781400
"Agreed. Gurx and Chuck and I can try to get the drop on them, while you guys do the choppy choppy."
>>
>>21781423
"Thank you. It always does me good to see those who want to make the world a safer place for others. We'll wait for your signal."
>>
>>21781423
If you do, make three move silently checks (one for you, one for Gurx, one for Chuck)

>>21781366
You easily notice a few thieves in town, and asking around are introduced to their boss, who agrees to look for an assignment for you. The fences in this town all work for him, and he works for Sammy, the Big Boss.

You can't find any necromancers in town, and the slave trade isn't especially strong here. There are a few livery stables and kennels, but apparently there are only two trained attack dogs left for sale
>>
>>21781457
"Hm.. if Yrin leads you on a rope, giving the appearance of prisoners - mayhaps we can get the drop on them?

In any case, get ready to rush them. Our signal will be a flurry from afar into their ranks."

Yrin and the dogs will wait with the nonthieves, and if desired "lead" them towards the ogres as though leading a train of prisoners.

Echo, you there? Is Chuck comin' along?

>>
>>21781552
It's a d% roll. Level 1 thieves have a 23% chance and level 3 thieves have a 30% chance
>>
>>21781514
Well, first things would be to find a town where there is a slave or necromantic trade. I figure I'll ask the locals if any towns around the area are reknowned for slaves 'n' skellies.
Also bullshit at the local tavern searching for adventuring groups and retainers. There's bound to be some typical henchman types 'round here.

Dredge shows up at the Kennels, asks if anything's gone missin' lately. They's only got a few dogs aspite dogs bein' popular-like pets. S'anyone in the town kidnappin' their doggies?

Rollan. Jenai then Gurx then Chuck

Before they go into the underbrush, Jenai glances at the group

"If they notice us - just .. rush at 'em anyhow, ok?"
>>
>>21781571
"No, no, we've plenty of pets. There's just been a rush on attack dogs lately. But we have some terriers if you need something for rats or weasels."

You hear that that kind of thing sounds like the sort of stuff the northern barbarians get up to. Apparently when they come to town to trade away their loot, they generally also offer captured prisoners as slaves.
You can hire some retainers if you want to.
>>
>>21781592
Trying to clamber along a side path, your foot dislodges a loose stone, and the sound of it falling attracts the ogres attention.
"OI!" the lead ogre says. "Mans and goblin! No sneak past! You pay toll, or we break heads."
>>
>>21781646
"Oh? You keep this road safe for people to travel, then? There's some cougars up the way that tried to kill us, so we were trying to get past them without getting killed. You guys aren't doing that great a job keeping this place safe. How much is the toll?"
>>
>>21781670
He takes an appraising look at you. "Hunned gol'. Each. Fitty for the gobbo."
>>
>>21781627
Northern Barbarians, eh? Thanks.

Next step: Schmooze up the Thieves' Den. What kinda jobs they got, what kinda jobs they don't got. I'm cool with the sneaky-sneak and the stabby-stab. And anything really. I's ask how they's get more members for their Den. Like is this a vol-un-ta-ry basis, or do people get around to Owin' the Den their time, life, and services?
If there's any folk that Owe the den their time, life, and services - or just their money - I'd be lookin' to help 'em remember what they owe.
>>
>>21781670
"Dammit, he got seen... What is he doing? Talking? With those things? Gah..." Alvaro sighed, waiting for the signal to charge.
>>
>>21781687
"Wut iffin we dunna have 100gol?"
>>
>>21781687
"Oh, rats. That's too much - we spent most of our cash already. Guess we'll just have to go back. Damn, Sammy isn't going to like us not making it to the site in time.. come on guys, best we get in before dark."
>>
>>21781716
"Then you no pass!"

>>21781694
As a new member, your jobs will mostly involve acting as lookout for more important member, working as muscle, and helping with robberies. As for owing the den, they say people have to kick up a share of the earnings from their territory, but sharking isn't their department.

What class of retainer are you interested in hiring?
>>
>>21781694
Dredge also makes note in his thinky brain to chat up them containers [retainers] once he's done with schmoozin' the local pickpocks.

>>21781768
Dredge is kinda lookin' for a party o' guys like. What goes into towns or ruins or anywheres, kills everythin', and sells all the loot and survivors for moneys.
What class they is don't matters so much as that they kills everythin' and sells all the loot and survivors.

If'n Dredge has to put the party together his selfsome, he's gonna be watchin' to hire based on per-so-nal-a-i-ty more than job experience.

[Class? Any. Prefer a pre-assumbled team of 4 dudes who are basically attackmoving murderhobos]
>>
>>21781809
>>21781768
[Also specifying that in this arrangement, Dredge is okay with the retainers getting x1 the normal loot share. Even stevens 50-50 and all that for joinin' up with a pre-arranged group]
>>
>>21781768
Jenai will start to walk away - further upslope, with Gurx and Chuck in tow - making it harder for the ogres to follow if they decide to attack. Jenai will knock an arrow, nod to the two thieves, turn and fire with Gurx.

Havin' spent some o' his time checkin' out his con-tainers, Dredge tells them noice gentlemen at the Thieves' den that he's checkin' up on some leads out-o-town.

Dredge also gets their Retainers' Contracts and adds 'em to his scroll case. Only HALF share o' the loot? Not bad, not bad he thinks.
He signs 'em.

Dredge asks Two-eyes, the smarty of the group.
"Rightyo. Which way we goin' first? Check out the barbarians o' the north for contacts in slave sellin', or check out that other adventurin' party?"

>DM was given OBVIOUS MEANS TO POINT DREDGE AT PARTY
>>
>>21782339
Anyway, I think Mistamere just buries its dead? Yeah, then Alvaro starts digging with his shovel, unless the others want him to hurry.

"The other party set out on an expedition into the mountains and looked like they were prepared for a long trip. If we follow them, they might lead us to a valuable site not yet looted"
>>
>>21782414
Dredge spends 'is time checkin' out 'is leads on that Adventurin' group.
'e checks in with the local Thieves' den since 'e's on the way. If'n these folk are adventurin', maybe they got a local sneaky-sneak with 'em.
"Yo Boss. You know anythin' about some group o' adventurin' types? Recently set out into the mountains? They got one o' your lads with 'em?"
>>
>>21782405

Dredge makes super duper tacticool symbols that mean "booze" and "where's the latrine", that being the only signs he knew how to make during his short time at the Thief's guild. He sighs at his ineptitude.

[To Jenai, Whispered] "Boss says you're doing well enough to be offered some territory in town. You gonna take him up on that?"

"Nice to meet you Dredge, I'm Alvaro. I'm not sure if we have an official leader..." Alvaro ponders this for a bit. >>
>>21783114
"Aye good tah have ya, pull yer weight and we'll split the loot just fine."

"Oh! Hey .. their lair was near here.. maybe there's something of value in there. Oh, this is Gurx, and this is Yrin." Jenai gestures to the goblins. "And Sgt Vice and Officer Habit."

Jenai will clap Dredge on the shoulder in a friendly manner if it looks like Dredge won't dislike the contact - then starts to head over to the cougar lair with Gurx and Yrin.
>>
>>21783184
"Naw - like Alvaro says, we're sort of democratic, make decisions as a team, go with majority and consensus and stuff as best we can."
>>
>>21783202

>>
>>21783212
[Dredge doesn't like that]
"Well, who do I get to sign this contract? I sorta figured you professionals gotta have a leader."

Dredge shows you a contract, which is more of a picture story given his 7 int.

On it, several situations are depicted.
First: Dredge attacking and robbing a group, with a red 'X' on it.
This means "No fighting or stealing from the party"
Second: That group attacking and robbing Dredge, with a red 'X' on it.
This means: "No fighting or stealing from Dredge"
Third: Dredge and a group walking in different directions, away from a torn scroll.
This means: "You can walk away at any time if the terms aren't agreeable."
Fourth: A torn scroll, The phases of the moon, 30 crude suns, and then Dredge and a party fighting.
This means: "Have to wait a month after breaking contract before fighting each-other"
Fifth: The Party and Dredge attacking a monster.
This means: "The Party and Dredge help each-other fight".
Sixth: A pile of coins, surrounded by 5 faces, one of which is dredge's. The coins have been split evenly, as a pie.
This means: "Even split of the loot."
>more
>>
>>21783224
Alvaro nods at the find. "Poor souls. Hopefully they found peace." He then turned to the group. "Should we continue to Gondolin now?"
>>
>>21783224
"Damn. I was hoping for a baby cougar for my very own." Jenai shrugs, shares the loot, and then comes out of the cave.
>>
>>21783274
Seventh: A guy with a crown is smiling. Dredge is frowning. There is a coin, clearly showing Heads.
A guy with a crown is frowning. Dredge is smiling. There is a coin, clearly showing Tails.
This means: "If Dredge conflicts with the party, flip a coin to see who to follow".
Dredge looks at this, then at the group, kind of confused.
And Eighth:
Space for signatures. One signature is already present, next to a picture of Dredge's face.

Dredge shows this document to the party, and explains it.

"This is my employment contract. Seem okay to you guys?"
>>
>>21783296
>>21783274
Alvaro looks the contract over. "Well... I guess we'd sign as a group, stating that the group and all its members, meaning us, agrees to the contract." He shrugs. "I'd say the first two are obvious, as is the fifth and sixth. Can't have fighting between us, and we work as a group and fight as a group. We do well dependent on all of us, not just a few."
>>
>>21783398
But how we flip a coin to see who to follow if we ain't got no leader?
Everyone with strong feelings roll a dice?
>>
>>21783296
"I need a clarification on the "conflicts with party, flip a coin." Do you mean you'll flip to see what decision you'll make?"
>>
>>21783430
Naw, I mean, flip a coin to see what we all do
We work as a team. Gotta stay as a team.
>>
>>21783398
"Also the third. We won't force you to go with us if you don't want to, that's understandable." Alvaro chips in, after looking over the contract again. "Also, did you draw these by yourself? They're pretty good."
>>
>>21783427
"There are some things I won't do, though. For instance, if you're gonna kill an old lady, a one in four chance we have to help you do that ain't in the cards. I mean - I like the idea of you not attacking us, but I don't like the idea of having to do things that I think are crazy, wrong, or likely to lead to our deaths."

>>
>>21783487
"How about we work with eachother on agreed upon things? If you get payed to kill an old lady, tell us about it, and if we don't want to help you you do it on your own. Likewise, if we decide to try to rescue an orphanage and there's no reward for it, and it's dangerous - you can bow out after a discussion? Like - a contract sort of deal. Renewed per adventure, or whatnot. If things come up in the middle of a mission -we discuss them with the team?"

"To this discussion... While I don't like the example given, I wouldn't agree with the idea. Someone might have a bad idea, this idea might cause us to do something that would be a folly. It also seems to conflict with the "walk away" part. What's the point of the chance if those who disagree won't go with it?"
>>
>>21783575

'cause if you walk away that's it.
If you follow someone else's lead, then they follow your lead, You both get what you want and you stay together to get more of what you want.
Walkin' away's always an option. But if you take that option, then other people ain't gonna do what you want neither.

>>
>>21783736
>I don't like contracts, I prefer making things up as I go along.
An' what I'm sayin' is.
How does I set things up, so what you 'make up as you go along', ain't a knife in my back?
If yer only answer is "We always does what Jenai wants", then I don't agree with that.
And if ya don't have another answer, then I have to conclude that there'll be a knife in my back if I work with ya.
I don't want that. So's I can't work with ya if that's the case.
>>
>>21783786
> If worse came to worse we'd probably restrain you with rope until you stop trying to do what you were doing.
[Dredge doesn't like that]
So. What terms can you think of that gives me my share of what I want, and gives you your share of what you want?
Since you just proposed "Bully ol' Dredge out of his share".
I think that's not a good thing to agree to. Ya think?

Well. If your only options for going and helping you are "We'll beat you out of your rightful share", I'm thinkin' I don't want to go and help you.
>>
>>21783755
"Well, if there's time to use words it'll be words, but if you don't listen to me I might do wacky things like convince the party to nonviolently hug you until they can get away, or nonviolently buy your evil employers out of slaves and pay you more money than they pay you to enslave people to build up an orphanage for those whores' bastards, and then be security for a school for them or something. I mean - there's more cash in killing the bad guys than being the bad guys, in my opinion. I'd love to hear about your evil plans though - if all you care about is cash, I can pay you to ferret out the really awful stuff."
>>
>>21783810
"...I don't think you quite understand what we do. We don't attack people for no reason, we try to help people. Sure, we find money in the process, but that's secondary. At least to me. I venture because I want to make the lands safer and spread the good word, not because I want to beat up old women for their money. What do I look like, a thief?" Alvaro asks with an exasperated gesture. "Er... Sorry Jenai. You're a good one."

You're well aware that people far from civilisation can lose toes getting their feet soaked during wintertime. Everything is silent, and it feels like the frost has killed everything in the valley. Out from behind the trees, long pink ropes shoot out at the party!

Heading deeper into the swamp, you head towards where the map says Gondoril should be. However, the path marked is blocked by a great wooden gate, with overgrown plantlife around it. There is an image of a large round fruit on the door, possibly some kind of cantaloupe

>>
>>21785416
The door opens, reacting to the password pun. Beyond is a great ruin. To the north is a hill, surrounded by the broken remains of the walls. Atop it are the stone remnants of buildings, all else having been rotted or burned long ago. Ahead is a burial mound with a stone pillar atop it. There are skeletons and preserved corpses all around, the remains of the ancient battle here
>>
>>21785474
"Well, never mind the--Whew. That's a mess." Alvaro comments, looking into the door. "Guess we... Go in? Does the map say where the sword would be in the city?"
>>

According to Scylla, it should be buried with Maeglin

Alvaro checks over his gear again, before venturing inside the door. "Come on, best not make this long trip a waste. We have to get the sword."

You sure you want that? I mean, the chainmail is worse than plate mail. Everyone who can wear chainmail can wear plate, and everyone who can wear plate is wearing it. So... We have nothing to do with this. We could... Try selling it? That seems risky though. We could hoard it though, in case it might come in handy later.
>>
>>21787250
I am fully in favor of hoarding it!
>>
>>21787304
Same. We don't have a use for it now, but I'm sure we can think of something later.
>>
>>21787350
ya can bet your boots we will for we are
>takes off glasses
ADVENTURERS

Where to now? back to town?
>>
>>21787389
Yep. Unless you want to poke at some corpses some more. I don't think there is anything else of worth here, unless you want to fully dig up that grave mound.
>>
>>21787420
Lets get back, and pickup brandon's corpse on the way. need to give him proper enternment at mistamere
>>
>>21787475
Yeah. Next time want to hit up Cynidicea? That sword of your should help big time.
>>
>>21787512
If the party is lacking then yes, I dunna wanta kill bargle if everyone can't enjoy it too.
>>
>>21787536
Do we even know where Bargle is?
>>
>>21787576
WE DO! thanks to my fucksmithery. Scylla the gorgon woman i was lucky to share intmacy with instead of our happy band of murderhobos' wrath falling on her revealed that Bargle lives down the hall from her room. as does Samael, very close by.
>>
>>21787606
That was fake Bargle though. We went through the secret door from that room, but if we went through the other room we would of wound up in her room.
>>
>>21787618
she directed us to the legit bargle, who had the twin of this sword
>raises up black sword
and we are expected to fight against him with it as far as i can understand.
>>
Anyway, see you tomorrow.I'm playing Baldur's gate
>>
>>21787651
See you later DM, good luck with the game!
>>21787643
I'm pretty sure she confused fake Bargle with real Bargle, but you may be right. We can check it out tomorrow.
>>
>>21787661
Need to try and figure out how to convince her to stop having those skeletons anyway. I think it has to do with that drain, I bet there's more to it than she thinks. If purple was the cursed item, why is it helpful? I bet it has a more sinister function. Maybe Samael spies on her from it?
>>
>>21787651
have fun DM i love that game!

>>21787680
I'll bet there is a lot more to that drain, im thinking its the source of our magic detect water
>>
>>21787661
Oh, and we might have to have a small break in the middle of the game. I have to take an hour or so to help my mum move some furniture
>>
>>21787690
From what I remember, she said that it actually drains the magic out of the water. Its what allows her to cast her spells, but it has a cursed aura. That doesn't sit right, even though she uses it to raise undead, which was what I thought was the original reason it was purple...
>>21787698
No problem DM, real life trumps game every time.
>>
>>21787698
no worries, IRL first, mom's more so.
>>
Rolled 3 + 1

>>21787712
If the games ending, I'm going to cast Cure Light Wounds on Echo. BE HEALED BY THE SUN!

No use letting it waste.
