That's nice and all, but there simply isn't enough crunch to match the fluff. You can go into detail about your special attack and all that, which is a generally good thing, but... then you end up just having the same effect as everyone else, prettymuch. It seems to me like, at the very least, a person should be able to type their magical girl to different sorts of combat... like melee/blaster/support or something like that, but you can't even go that far.

I don't know, maybe I just can't get into it when, after rolling dice, the results are based not on the character I want to play, but on the same cloth that every character is cut from in whole.

Alright, so this is what I've manage to mash together with my shitty imagination and lack of any creativity.

The girl is desperate to gain the love/respect/admiration of others (her mother's first and foremost).
Undoubtedly she's in a religious family.

Ended up a bookworm in the case of trying to become more knowledgeable and achieve high grades to impress mother/others, but failing to do so leads her to using books as an escape from reality, and thus she conceives a perfect imaginary lover who will always love her, no matter what.

Becomes the magical girl thinking it will get her all the love for being a super magical super heroine that saves the day blah blah blah.
Upon revealing the truth, her mother attempts(?) to murder her, believing she's a demon/witch. She's forced to kill her mother in self-defense.
She's forcibly forgets the event ever happened, acts like her mother is still alive (and that mother loves her very much), and will likely witch out on anybody who persists in telling her otherwise.

There could also be something about her "perfect lover" not being so perfect.
Yep, that's a witch out.

Lastly, she's already dead. She just doesn't know it yet.
When she does, you better believe that's a witch out.

Alright, here's my take: She's the head of the newspaper club at her school, and usually prints out various rumors and scandals, but went too far one time, printing out a rumor meant in good humor, but unfortunately, that resulted in her friend committing suicide, due to a youma manipulating everyone into taking the rumor more seriously than intended. After nuking it with the power of love, she resolved to try to make her columns more fact based and reputable. Compared to her climb back up, her struggle to wipe out every youma seems like a cake walk. A shame she can't spread rumors about the youma, at least not directly, it would've made for an interesting article.
