These are the continuing adventures of a swank-ass watch and its amnesiac transportation. Just hours ago you awoke with only the memory of your name and a splitting headache. Almost immediately you acquired a rabid fangirl and were forced to kill her. Twice. Nothing personal. She was clingy and you don't fancy women with claws and tentacles (at least when they're trying to gut you).

As it stands now, you have just dispatched another of the monstrosities that roam this unknown city. The charred corpse is in two pieces, no match for a tastefully placed and unwittingly detonated shotgun shell. It was not an easy feat. You have a few holes in your back to remember him by.

Another explosion next door causes the building to tremble. The watch is beeping furiously, its diagnostic screen up. A large biohazard symbol overlays your lifesigns. Across from you, the one-armed russian giant still waits, his question filling the air between you and him.

You've been through a lot of shit today. A large portion of that shit involved walking corpses trying to harm you. The last one even succeeded a little. So it's not unsurprising when thoughts of violence, murder, and fleeing cross your mind. Though the thought of shooting him catches you off guard though. You don't even have a gun. Anways, you decide to talk this one out. Worth a shot, yeah? So you take a breath, loeer the TLK a little, and kindly ask the giant's name.

The large man is silent for a few moments more. It appears he expected some other opening statememt from you. Whatever it was, he didn't expect this. His mouth creaks a bit at the corners to form a half-smile: " Is joke, yes? Really Hazmat, you should not be playing such games at a time like this. I appreciate the attempt to lighten the mood though." You greet these statements with a blank stare. The man obviously knows you. But you'll be damned if you can dredge up a shred of memory about him.

The giant shifts uncomfortably under your gaze. His good arm reaches up to stroke his beard. "So...uuuuh...oh, where is Martha? I heard her from the other room. I came as quickly as possible." His eyes find the halves of Crispy strewn about the room. "It seems I need not have worried. You two are an excellent team."

Well, he does know you. And apparently you have a partner. Damned if you remember her, though.

>How do you respond?
>>
>>20347779
Martha. The name of No Jaw McGraw, maybe? If so, we have some bad news...

Sorry, this thing doesn't have spellcheck. I apologize for errors.
>>20347972
>>20347943
Time for answers. He knows Martha, you supposedly know her as well. Maybe he can help you remember. Where to start...how about hair color? You ask the large man if this 'Martha' was a blonde. He smiles at you again, a tad forcefully this time. "Really comrade, this joking around is not as endearing as you might think." Helpful.

You question him about flying cars this time. Surely that will get you answers. "Aircars, eh? Well, one would be nice here I think. Dracon is not a safe place for street walkers." He rubs his armless shoulder absentmindedly with this statement. "We should really think about relocating Haz. They will soon trigger the remaining explosives. Get Martha and let's go." He steps passed you, heading for the stairs. At the top step he pauses, looking back. "I'm glad you have found me friend. Truly, I was not expecting to make it much longer." With that he hurries down.

Well, that was informative. You adjust your sleeve and check the watch again. Still beeping and flashing, as usual. You give it a hesitant command: execute Restoration.Memory? The watch continues flashing a biohazard, unfazed by your request. You sigh and follow after the russian.

>what now?

>>20348281
Cobble furniture into a vaguely human shape and call it Martha. Bluff russian.

>>20348448
>>20348397
Sudden inspiration strikes you. That chair...that mop over there...and that lampshade...yes, 'Martha' will be down shortly. Yeah, the giant man will bever suspect a thing. Sure. You make a note to wrestle that imagination of yours under control.

He's right though, you have to move. Fighting more of those things does not appeal to you at all. But first you unstrap your pack and pick through its contents. Fuck the abominations, you have a backpack.
Inventory:
-stress ball
-mini-suitcase with six number combo lock
-plastic baggie with five unmarked pills
-18 feet of 550 cord
-handcuffs
-partial note
-magazine
-newspaper
-knife sheath
-watch
-table leg knife

Everything is where it should be. Good. You bundle it back up and head downstairs. The man is peeking out from where the door should be. "They still try to enter. Stupid things. We have some time." That's well and good, you say. Hey, I've got a pretty good hangover from last night. Any idea about who we are looking for?

This statement is absorbed with another smile. "You know as well as I do we are forbidden from drinking before a job, Haz. As for who we're looking for? Your great-great grandmother if we stick around here much longer." Another explosion rocks the foundations. "That was the last. Quickly now, you got in here well enough. Where should we go?"

The street outside is full of things trying to kill you. Luckily they are focused next door. There are some doors in the back of the house. Perhaps one leads to an alley or something...

What shall you do?
>>
>>20348924
That inventory also includes a clip of four shotgun shells...they somehow escaped your notice for a second.

You should be concentrating on leaving. You really should. But this whole Martha thing has really got you hooked. A team he said? Really excellent together? You may not have met any people like that, but maybe...you look at your watch. Surely not. It has been helpful, yes, but nothing about it screams 'team'. Or female. But still. Martha? Is that you? The watch face lights up again, its holograms flashing meaningfully. You turn bring it closer. Could it really be? The watch beeps, aaaand...returns to the diagnostic screen, biohazard flaring. No sudden realization. No tearful reunion. The russian man stares at you strangely. "You're starting to creep me out, man. Really, we need to go."

Yes, yes. But first you take out the bag of pills. Positioning it near the metal band, you ask it to scan the item. It beeps and complies.

[Bloom antiviral] Standard issue, purges system of bloom parasite forms. Should be taken immediately if infectious form enters blood.

The giant perks up. "Oh, you still have all your doses? Good. Bastard that took my arm cost me two." He takes another look next door. "They have started entering the house. Can we move soon?"

>New information. How will you progress?
>>
>>20349540
This guy is entirely too worried. Maybe he is hiding something?
>>
Can we use the fireball yet?
>>
Don't die on me! The pills, we need them. That burnt latcher stabbed us.
>>
>>20349540
Okay, just pop a damn pill and peek outside. When they've all entered the building make a run for it. "When they all get in the building, we run, sound good? I don't want to risk that back door."
>>
>>20350835
>>20350759
The wounds on your back give a twinge, reminding you of your hard-earned victory. It's probably best not to take any chances. Amnesia is bad enough. You'd rather not get infected with anything. You open the bag, take a pill, and down the hatch it goes. Nothing feels different. You suppose you'll have to trust it.

As to which direction you'll be taking out of here...screw the back, the street outside worked well enough for you. You sidle over to your large friend and tell him your plan. Wait for everyone to go inside. Then leg it. Simple. "Okay. Be ready to go then. They will soon be inside." He motions for you to wait.

One minute passes. Two. He looks out again, holding up his hand. Three minutes. Was that shuffling upstairs? Maybe a gasping grunt? Another minute. The giant man leans out further. Okay, you definitely heard something move up there. He looks back and nods, waving you forward. Outside it is quiet. They really did go inside. Without a word you both head up Liver to its intersection with Scent. You're unsure of where to go from here, but your comrade strides purposefully north. As you leave the row of homes behind, you catch a glimpse down a small alley behind them. It looks empty at first. Then you look up. More than ten of your friends are suspended above the alley. Yikes. The russian strides on and you follow. It seems you're coming up to a town square.

>Ideas?
>>
>>20351118
We should really explain the situation in full when we come to a stop, but for now, just follow and be ready with TLK.
>>
Has OP abandoned this?
>>
>>20351440
The large man seems to know where he's going. He swings into the square, hangs a left, and pushes into the very first building. A garish sign labels it 'The Sinkhole'. Charming. You folliw him inside, TLK at attention. The interior is less gaudy than the sign implied, thankfully. The russian is seated at a stool. "Funny thing, after the bloom got real bad, the first thing people went after were the bars. Sadly, this means that good drink is hard to find. It also means that these places are somewhat safe." He finishes dressing his wound and winces. "Everyone was elsewhere when it took them."

Fascinating. That aside, this man really deserves to know what's up. So, you tell him. The car. The closet. The amnesia. He responds with disbelief. "You can't remember anything? Only your name?" You show him your head wound and say yes, that's how it is. He takes a moment to absorb this information. "This isn't good. The others expect us to be well into our missions by now. With you not remembering and me crippled, things could go downhill fast." He stands up and starts pacing. "I suppose I should introduce myself then. You call me Titan. I am the demo expert for our team. Or at least I was, till one of them took my arm. Well, tried to take. I got it back." He cracks open his pack and shows you. Yep, that's an arm. It even has a watch like yours. Though this one is mangled. "As you can see, my deck is shot." That explains titan being unresponsive.

"Son of bitch, man. You really don't remember Martha? You hardly shut up about on her and now you have no memory. Amnesia must be pretty good." He sighs. "Martha is your gun, man. Imagine my surprise when I come through wall and see you cheating on her with that thing." He indicates the TLK.
>>
Oh. Well. You have a gun? And you named it Martha? If it is so famously attached to you, where is it now? This last is directed at Titan. "Don't know man. I've only ever seen it at your side." Helpful. And still more questions burn through your cranium now.

>What now?
>>
Argh, fell asleep, woke up, updated, and fell asleep again. Damn.
>>
>>20354209
Ask him about the suitcase and the mission.
>>
bumping
>>
>>20358395
You open your pack and fish out the locked suitcase, showing it to Titan with a question. Does he know anything about it? "Cannot say I do, Haz. Though something about it does look familiar. Maybe you found it somewhere?" He scratches his head, thinking hard. "Gah, it feels like I've seen it before but I have no idea where. A feeling you can sympathize with, I'm sure." Hoho, funny guy. Yes, your memory is a little fuzzy.

You also ask him about your mission here. What were you supposed to be doing? Titan looks a bit drained at this question. "Damn, Fardtech is not going to like this. I cannot tell you what your assignment is, sadly. We were all seperated and briefed. They launched us seperately, too. Mine was to collapse bridges connecting us to mainland. I never made it, though. One of those...mouth-beasts, whatever they call them...had a next at mylanding site. He was on me the moment I stepped out. I remembered to take pill before passing out. But when I woke, one of the dead was chewing my arm. Two pills in such short time! A waste. I made it to those homes. The other one had friends. There I waited for doom till you came."

Poor guy. Now that there is a bit less excitement, you can see that he is a bit under the weather. Very pale, and swaying a little. Better watch out when it comes to the mouth-beast. Whatever that is.

>All these answers, right? Next?
>>
>>20359697
ask him what the plan is now.
>>
>>20360587
Well things certainly aren't looking good from here. You ask Titan if he has a plan. "Yes. Me and you may only have shit luck, but I still worry for the rest. I think we should try to find the others. I don't know how much you've learned, so bear with me, but the deck on your wrist can be used as a communicator." You tell him that yes, you actually found that out on your own. And that the local comm node is down for maintenance. His was the only in range, and it was busted.

"That is not so good. We have problems now. First, we need comms up. Without them we'd just be wandering aimlessly through Dracon, hoping to find someone. Second...I fear that I may need some medical attention. My arm took more than my hand with it. And third, while less important, my deck is fucked. We do not have the means to repair it here."

All in all these make for a bleak outlook. But hey, at least you have your health! Oh wait...you touch your head again. Fourth, your memory. It would be nice to have that back.

>What shall you do now?
>>
So many choices...and Martha. Did we maybe leave her in the car?
>>
>>20361330
If we did, she's staying there. I don't want to go back to that little shop of horrors.
>>
Say, what does Hazmat look like?
>>
>>20361618
Agreed. Let's ask Mr. Watch if if knows where the comm node is. And if it can Identify what's wrong with it. Maybe technical malfunction, damaged?
>>
>>20361863
Well, good question. He has a name, a suit, and a watch. Anything else is up to you, really.
>>20361886
>>20361618
More certainly would be merrier. But as long as that node is down, it'll be hard to get the word out. You leave Titan to his thoughts and bring up your watch, or deck, whatever. Perhaps it can tell you where the node is? The watch beeps, cycles to the map, and pans west. Well look at that! It isn't too far away, just a few blocks.

Perhaps it might also know what is wrong with the node? The watch flashes, beeps, and...[data input needed]. Oh well. You have a heading.

You turn back to Titan and relay the new info. "Good, good. We may be able to survive this yet." You do feel a little better. Getting things done is a great confidence booster. Just imagine what it'll feel like when you actually do something!

>Now what?
>>
>>20362131
Well, let's head west.
>>
Maybe we should think about finding that gun. The table leg knife is nice, but CQC will probably waste pills faster.
>>
>>20362194
Well, getting comms up is the best plan. You hope. You relay your decision to Titan. He doesn't look to happy about it. "I need rest Haz. I can barely stand. I won't be any help to you out thete." He sits down heavily in a booth and opens up his pack. Fishing out two dull brown semispheres and a familiar looking cube. "Here. These are two bomb caps and some spare cr. With my watch like like it is, I won't need any. I'm sure you'll find a use for the bombs."

You stow the caps and present the cube to your watch. It beeps, sucks up the cube, and flashes [1100cr]. You thank Titan, and tell him to stay careful. "Do not worry about me. Just get our comrades." He slumps over and waves you away.

Outside again. You don't see anybody else out here, living or otherwise. Might as well get a move on. You can see three westward paths. One is the intersection you passed as you entered the square. The next is the closest, leading directly from the square. The final is on the opposite side, another intersection further north.

>What do?
>>
>>20362783
>Do you have a picture of bomb caps? I googled it and all I found were hats. Do you mean blasting caps?

>>20363760

>>
>>20363480
>>20363385
You decide to go further north. Might as well put some distance between you and the party you left. The square does not disgorge any shambling horrors to greet you as you cross it, so far so good. As you start down the westward street, you look around for any signs of movement.

The left side of the street is mainly the side of one building. A large mural decorates it. It shows a rose rising from a grave. A closer look reveals that the rose is made of flesh and bone. Beautiful. The right side is dominated by a parking garage, very large and dark. The street proper is empty of everything but a few pieces of trash.

The sun has started to dip below the massive skyscrapers. Shadows are getting longer. Alleys are getting darker. Streetlights that aren't broken or outright missing are beginning to glow faintly. Your wrist-mounted friend flashes up the time. 18:03.

You are struck by a sudden and intense phobia of dusk. Holy shit, this cannot possibly be a safe time to be outside. You briefly consider sprinting back to the bar...no, you won't make it. The dark will catch you before you're halfway there. Time to improvise. Throwing any and all caution to the wind you quickly jump inside the parking garage.

Inside. Safe. Away from the dark of approaching night. Yes, the sanity-giving fluorescent light is blissful. You take a look around as you move deeper inside. It's practically empty. A few vehicles are clustered around the right half of the space. A bit further in you see a small office of some sort, enclosed in glass.

At the back of the garage a lazy spiral of asphault rises into the next level. As far as you can tell you are alone. No out-of-place sounds. No sudden blackouts. Just the lazy whisper of wind curling about the area. Still, you grip the TLK a bit tighter. No such thing as too careful.
>>
>>20364461
We should check the vehicles and see if we can't either find the keys or hotwire them. I imagine being able to drive away from any sort of danger would be a useful asset. Assuming of course there's gas and the roads aren't clogged with monsters or abandoned vehicles.

We should also check the phone call option again to see if anyone is nearby. Even with his watch broken, Titan's appeared when it was in range. So we might be able to see if we are in range of anyone else.

Search the upper floor, search the vehicles and office. After that's done, find like a can or something that can make noise when moved/dropped, if the 2nd floor entrance or any room you can hunker down in, like a side room with a window, has a door, prop the can on top of the cracked open door. Boom, home made alarm. Once that's done, let's fiddle with the watch, see if it has a mute function. Because that's twice we've been compromised by it.

When in Rome, right? The vehicles are close already so you decide to check them out first. There are three of them; two regular four-seaters, the type you might expect from any average income, and a large van. The two average cars are devoid of any key or other mode of ignition. You suppose you could attempt to hotwire them...but you can't find anyway to go about it. These things are pretty solid. Still, you find another metal cube under the seats of one. The watch flashes up [1150cr].

The van is a bit of an enigma. It is fairly large, first of all. Taller than you buy a full foot. You try the doors but they don't give at all. The interior is hard to see. Some kind of dull red crust has plastered the inside of the windows. It also covers the ground around the van. It isn't trying to kill you, but it does make you uneasy. Whatever, you have an office to explore.

As you walk over to it you reach down and pick up a piece of trash. A can, delightfully clangy. Could be useful. You add it to your pack and carry on. The office isn't impressive. Just a desk, a computer, a bulletin board, and a trashcan. The door is locked. It is only made of glass...

Gods damn these overcautious voices in your head. Still, they might save your life. You do a quick search for any visible sensors or alarming-looking devices. Nope. Smooth as glass. From what you can see on the inside it is also freeof untoward noisemakers. But hey. You're no security expert. You might have missed something. In the glass. Can't trust it. Too transparent.
>>
>>20365527
An idea pops into your head. And it utilizes the ever-helpful table leg knife. You prop it against the lock and start jiggling the door. Almost...almost...got it! You're in! And no wailing sirens to drag down a fate worse than death on your head! Woohoo! You tone down the excitement and check out the inside.

As you saw from outside, it is a sparse affair. Desk. Board. Trashcan with novelty basketball hoop. And computer, screensaver bouncing slowly from side to side. Riveting.

>Well, you're in. Just going to stare?
>>
>>20365704
The computer is on? Well lets hope the guy died while logged in... Also, close the door behind us. This might be a good place to wait out the night, sleeping under the desk or something.
>>
>>20365704
Check the computer, desk, and trashcan. Yay, scavenging!
>>
>>20365724
after searching the computer and desk, try quietly moving the desk in front of the door as a barricade.
>>
>>20365724
>>20365722
Right. Time to embrace your inner scavenging rodent. Where to start...trashcan, of course! You stick your grubby fingers right into that sucker. Hmph. All you find is a candy wrapper. Oh well. On to the desk. Left drawer: empty. Middle drawer: dusty and empty. Right drawer: key ring with key and car remote. Ah, well, you can't be lucky all the hold the fuck up. Keyring acquired.

Next is the computer. You touch the keyboard and banish the screensaver. The screen now shows what looks like a security camera feed. Four cameras, two showing the office from different angles, the others presumably showing upstairs. There are also options for mail and-hang on, the watch is acting up again.

[Local network acquired], [Note added], and [Map updated] flash in quick succession. When it settles down, the hologram now shows the camera feeds in its corner, beside your lifesigns. Sweet. Well, the second floor beckons. You head up the spiral and take a look around. There are two cars up here, and what looks like an elevator.

>What do?
>>
>>20365930
Jump headfirst off the building. But seriously, do we have a reason to hate the night time?
>>
>>20365930
Again, search the cars. Elevator would make too much noise if we use it. could make a quick escape route, somehow.
>>
>>20365930

Must. Search. Everything. The thought just fills your head. Still, might as well be smart about it. And you have a cool new keyring to play with. You take it out and look at it. Two buttons on the little remote. One depicts a padlock, closed. The other, open. Easy enough to understand. You click the unlocked padlock. And are startled by a sudden flash of light. One of the vehicles just blinked its lights. An SUV. Black. Hm.

You sidle over to it and try the door. It swings open easily. Could you really be so lucky? You slot the key in, turnit, and presto. The automotive gives an encouraging growl as it rumbles to life. You lean in and check the meters. Gas is almost empty, but everything else checks out. You cut it off to conserve gas. Its actually quite nice in here. The seats are comfortable. Glovebox is empty and the interior is sparkling. It's almost too good to be true.

A harsh, resounding crash echoes up from the first floor.

OH SHIT. Time to hide. You spend a few seconds agonizing over the explosives you have, but another crash from below makes up your mind. Into that car you go. Doors locked for good measure. You shove up your sleeve and check the hologram and feeds.

Downstairs is almost exactly the same. Almost. Notable changes include the van being pulverized from the inside. As you watch, something shoves through the roof of the vehicle, pulls back in, and shoves out the side. Quickly, too. Whatever's in there is quite focused on getting out. Oh look, it found the back doors. And shoved them clear across the room.

Out of the van steps...well, it's not easy to place. It rests powerfully on four muscled limbs. Each end in a generous paw almost as large as a tire. A thick tail swishes behind it, crumpling the van's rear bumper. Toward its front raises a mound of flesh resembling a torso. Where a head might be is just a horribly twisted, tapering swirl of skin. At its right is another limb. An arm almost. But it does not end in a hand. Instead, it has a huge spur of jagged bone. It flexes this as it paces the room.

You've seen some fucked up things these past few hours. Whatever powers that be have made sure of that. But yet still more exists to drive you away from safe sane rationality. Seriously, what the hell is that thing!?! The beast in question is no longer pacing. It is relatively still, tail curling to and fro behind it. What is it doing? The tapered part is unwravelling, and some stalks are coming out. It seems to be raising its head...

Damn the watch and its psychic tendencies. As if aware at your general lack of knowledge, it kicks into action. It's already clicking and whirring, cycling thro-NO. Not this time. You draw down your sleeve, cinch it, and sit on your arm. You will not be accosted by that mind-bending creature because of this damn watch. Your quick thinking effectively hides all noise and light from the watch. Unfortunately, it also robs you of your video feed.

So you sit, arm under ass, hoping against hope that the monster leaves you be. And it is with no little jolt of cold fear that you hear it pad up to your floor. You duck down, uncomfortably aware of how easily that thing could probably smash into here. You hear it take a stroll around the room and stop next to the SUV. There is a large scratching noise aaaand...all is quiet.

>How shall you proceed?

This isn't so bad. Being hunched over in a car, arm positioned painfully beneath you. What's a little discomfort when it means not giving the warped beast outside the barest hint of your existence? Yeah. This just fine.

You stay that way for a while. Till the feeling in your left arm is gone. That's when the thought starts. Is it still out there? Is it just playing with you? Waiting until you can't take it anymore? That bastard! Well, you'll not be made a fool of. Slowly, carefully, you raise your eyes to the window. Even if it means losing your head you must know. Just a bit higher...

…nothing. You twitch your head around to the other side. Also nothing. Where is it? You shift position a little and look out the back. Not there either. Could it really be gone? What if it's hiding, taunting you to come out? Well it will be sorely dissapointed then. You tuck in for the long haul. It's going to be a long night.

After a few hours, sleep descends haltingly upon you.

>And I think I'll leave it here for tonight. Sleep calls for me, too. I'll continue in the morning. Till then, gents.
>>
>>20367634
Sounds good.

Is...is he gone? Okay. About the case. We should definitely try plugging numbers into it. And the line about columbus and martha...still not sure about it, but it's a start. One thing bugs me though.

Columbus sailed the ocean blue but Martha can beat him eighty-two

Nah. Probably something screaming in our face though. Most likely something horrid and mind warping.
>>
Back to harsh reality. At least there weren't any bad dreams this time. And hey, waking up in and of itself means that you're still alive. Hold on to those positives. Your body is staging a bit of a protest, though. Sleeping crunched up in a car seat has taken its toll. Well too damn bad. You were hiding from a monster last night.

Oh yeah. That...thing. It had busted out of the van, you had jumped into your current vehicle, then it had walked up here. Shit. You momentarily forget the cramping and curl up again. It had been right there. Any moment now it's probably going to bash through and rescue your head from your body. The suspense is killing you. Maybe more than that thing might.

You know what? The suspense IS a bit much. Screw this, time to face the music. You gird your loins, ready the TLK, and throw open the door. You take a moment to savor the sweet relief of fully extended limbs as you await certain doom. A doom that is taking its time. Really, horrible violent ends should at least be prompt. It's almost as if the beast hasn't been out here this entire time. There's some of that crusty red stuff on the floor and SUV, but no sign of your friend.

The watch blinks up 04:50 Tue. You lean up against the vehicle and consider the blessings of continued life.

>It's a brand new day! What's first on the agenda?
>>
>>20372347
I don't think we searched the other car yet. Let's do that. Once that's done, I think water should be the next priority, considering we haven't had anything to drink in at least 3 days.
>>
>>20372700
Actually, better yet, once we're done searching the cars, ask the watch about any military surplus stores and sporting goods stores within on the way to to the comm node. Would be better off getting a CamelBak and possibly a bigger backpack. Maybe even a Military Rucksack or assault pack and some Military clothes if we're lucky. More pockets ftw.
>>
Get in the car. Drive until this place is a memory.
>>
>>20372989
>>20372979
>>20372700
Well near death experiences are good and all but there is an unexplored vehicle across the room and you just cannot have that. On your way over to it you start wondering. You haven't had a drink in quiet a long time, as far as you can remember. Nor anything to eat, really. Yet you don't feel nearly as parched or hungry as you think you should. You wouldn't turn down a meal right now, but you aren't in dire need of one. Odd. Your thoughts flash back to yesterday, using the [Pizza] option on the watch. What had that really done?

Speaking of your wristbound companion, you wake it up. Did it perchance gather the location of a sporting goods or military store during its update yesterday? It once again flashes [Data input needed], and then shows your route to the node. A short distance before your destination it stops and zooms in on a large box in an alley, with the numbers 4511 hanging above it. Stupid watch. Doesn't even know what a sporting goods store is.

Well, on to more pressing matters. This car is a blue convertible with its top down. The inside is empty save for a bouquet of wilted flowers in the back. They obviously never found who they were meant for. Out of idle curiosity you flip open the card. And nearly drop it in surprise. From Columbus to Martha!?! No, no. Just your mind playing tricks on you. It says: From Conrad to Melissa. Still, that was kind of weird.

>What shall you do now?
>>
>>20373610
>From Columbus to Martha

You did that on purpose you bastard. You're lucky I can't into number riddles.
>>
>>20373610

>>
>>20373840
But we are driving there. We have car now.
>>
>>20373939
>>20373840
>>20373733 heh
Right. You have things to do. You saddle up your pack and get back in the car. At least you have wheels now. That monster. The flowers. You're really starting to miss Martha, even if you can't remember her. A gun in this city eould make anyone rest easy, you suppose. You start up the SUV and make your way back into the street.

It's still rather dark outside, but you can see the sky lightening behind up in between massive towers. The drive is definitely a creepy one. The streets are dotted with a few latenight corpses. Probably recovering from a night on the town, if their stumbling gait is anything to go by. Or, maybe, rotting muscles and tendons are impairing them. Hard to tell. A few of the corpses are actually still. Pieces of them strewn about the street. Lovely.

You find the appropriate alley in a quieter part of town. It's as inviting as any other cramped, dark space. But the map says there's something in there. It's too small for your car, so you cut the engine and wander in. It doesn't take long to find the box. Contrary to what the map shows, there are no numbers floating above it. There is, however, a number pad on it. Some distance into the alley, the wind rustles a plastic bag around.

>What do?
>>
>>20374457
try punching in 4511 on the number pad
>>

SOMEOME CRACK THIS CODE TO SPITE THE SMUG BASTARD.

And yes, type in 4511.
>>
>>20374669
>>20374484
Well, this seems easy enough. You stoop over and punch in the numbers '4511'. Success! The box's front slides down and reveals its contents. There are a two things in there: a pile of glinting metallic cubes and a note.

The watch eagerly snatches up the cubes, flashing [1650cr] when it's done absorbing them. The note looks almost untouched; it is written on a sheet of tough construction paper:

MEL
TAKE THIS CASC TO THE CHECKPOINT
ASK FOR SGT. LEE ANNE DEROSE
SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE

Hm. It appears this was meant as a bribe. Well, Mel obviously didn't make it. You're definitely the first to open this. The sky is much brighter now. You can clearly see the SUV from inside the alley.

As well as the body that tumbles down from above, landing in a jumble between you and your wheels. It jerks itself up by one arm, the horrible bulging mass that covers its hand spontaneous growing creepers that slide under the skin. It positions itself with arm-bulge forward and fires a creeper your way.

You quickly step to the left...right into the path of the attack. The tentacle catches you hard in the gut, slamming you against the alley wall. It is not a good pain. It knocks you silly for a second, and the tentacle winds around your neck. Slowly it starts pulling you toward the dead man. His jaw creaks wide open and disgorges some familiar needle-tipped appendages.

You struggle vainly as it tugs you inexorably closer. There has to be something, anything you can do! Come on, think. The watch! The fireball option! You swipe your left arm to the front and try to hold it steady. Damn, only a few feet between you and the corpse. You gasp out two words:

EXECUTE FIREBALL

The watch blinks into life, furiously beeping and spinning. The air around your wrist seems to be sparking, and heating up exponentially. A fiery blue orb is growing above it. The heat is almost unbearable! It is getting harder to hold your arm straight due to the watch's vibrations. It gives a final beep and rockets the orb toward at your enemy.

You watch in slow motion as the violent ball of heat tears right on by the monster's face. You're speechless. This can't be happening. Surely not. You barely feel one of its tentacles wrap around your wrist and snap it in two. It pulls you upright in front of it. The last thing you see are the needles positioned in front of your eyes.

A few days later, Titan finds your body wandering the streets. He gives an exhausted sigh and brings up an interface on his deck. "I'm sorry I was not there, comrade." After a few moments dual explosions rip your corrupted corpse apart.

A feeling passes over you, as if in some alternate timeline you just died horribly and the reverberations are just now echoing across time and space to warn you. What an odd thought. Though you probably should be focusing on the situation right now.

You have an plan, and you hope it will work. With a massive effort you regain some footing, halting your progress toward the errant corpse. With a word that watch is up, heat building quickly. The dead man is pulling hard, trying to put you back down. You give him a tug of your own and put your foot down. Literally. Your foot secures the waving tentacle to the ground. At your side the heat reaches unbearable levels and the watch beeps with finality.

You let up with your foot, and the tentacle raises into the air, unsure of freedom. While it is hanging relatively still you bring up your watch arm in a beautiful flaming uppercut. The orb launches at the same time. It burns a path along the foul member straight to its source. With a blinding detonation the latcher evaporates in a cloud of ash.

The aftermath of the fireball leaves a hot wind tossing through the the alley. You check yourself for injuries. Your middle is bruised, your eyebrows are singed, but other than that you're a-okay. You make your way back to the SUV, watch snatching up a nother chunk: [200cr]

Well, the voices tried. Maybe they'll figure out that number soon. For now, there is a comms node that requires your attention. Whatever that is. You cut the engine and climb out. The doors to the main lobby swing open easily.

Inside it is dark. None of the lights are on. You find a switch near the door and flip it. Nothing. The power in here is out. The only illumination comes from emergency route strips, your watch, and what little light that filters in from outside. This is, of course, your favorite environment. Who doesn't like darkness? OH WAIT. Good thing the sun is eeking it's way up soon.

An information center is locayed conveniently in the middle of the lobby. Next to it is a hallway that leads further in. To the right, a stairwell. You grip the table leg knife closely. Time for adventure...riiiight.

>How shall you go about this?
>>
>>20378358
let's take a look at the information desk. Maybe we can find a floor plan.
>>
>>20378358
check the desk. maybe our watch has a light on it? so what if it gives away our position, we can't fight blind
>>
>>20378474
>>20378450
Information is always helpful. Might as well take what you can get. You wander over to the desk to see what's-what. First of all, nothing has jumped out and tried to kill you. That has to be a new record. The info center is chock full of little pamphlets, all about the wonders of communications technology. How interesting. There's also a small numbered box that turns out to hold more cubes. Sweet. The watch gobbles them up and flashes [550cr].

Perhaps best of all is the large display case that houses a nice map of the building. You hold up the watch to get a better view, and it beeps. The watch does. Not the case. That would be silly. [Map updated] appears on the watch's hologram. You continue studying it.

The map shows a few major icons: the most obvious is a 'you are here' icon, toward the back of the facility is a lightning bolt, and the rest of the first floor houses a large room marked with a circle, knife, and fork. The second floor has various symbols depicting stick figures in various activities: toward the front they are shown reclining. In theh middle: running, lifting, and swimming. At the back: showering. The top floor map isn't divided into rooms; it has only a large circle in the center with wavy lines in the center.

Armed with as much info as any small child on a school trip, you are. Now to hope fervently that none of the employees try and stop you.

>What now?
>>
>>20378830
head to the lightning bolt. i assume that's the power, maybe we can get some lights on so we can see what kills us.
>>
>>20378830
We could first try to fix the power in the generator room where the lightning bolt is. Then scavenge for food so we don't have to waste [cr] on pizza in the cafeteria on the first floor. And then maybe clean up at the showering area depending on how dirty we've gotten over this adventure.
>>
>>20378893
>>20378876
First things first. Power. You're betting that lightning bolt has something to do with it. So you head down the main hall, further into the building. The lightning bolt was in the southwest corner, so you try to keep an eye out for any paths heading right.

On the way back you cut through the cafeteria. It is a large space filled with tables and chairs piled randomly into small hills. As you glance toward the serving kitchen you're reminded that, while you aren't exactly hungry or thirsty, consuming some real food would not be frowned upon. Though that smear of blood leading behind the counter doesn't exactly look appetizing...

You exit the cafe space and hang a right at the next corridor. At the end are a set of double doors, and various electrical danger notices crowd the walls. Pushing through them you find yourself on a catwalk, overlooking a large sunken enclosure. Down on the ground are four large domes, their surfaces shiny and reflective. To your left is what appears to be a control room. You can't tell from up here, but it looks like someone is slumped amongst the domes.

>Ideas?
>>
>>20379139
CAREFULLY check the guy slumped amongst the domes. Assuming the slumped guy isn't a monster playing dead or something it's probably the electrician or someone with proper access to the generator room and thus might have keys or codes to start the place up. Again, be on the look out for whatever made the guy slump there in the first place.

>assuming the slumped guy isn't a monster
>isn't a monster
EVERYTHING IS MONSTERS. NEVER ASSUME OTHERWISE.
>>
>>20379139
oooh, if we turn on the electricity, will the probably monster down below get fried? that would be very nice. let's try to sneak into the control room and turn on the power
>>
>>20379255
You. I like you.

I say we give the maybe monster a wide berth.
>>
Actually, I just realized, have we seen ANY normal corpses or have they all been infected? If we haven't seen any at all then it's probably safe to assume that the body slumped against the domes is a monster and not simply a body.
>>
>>20379215
this man has the right idea. That being said, let's try to make as little noise as possible and try to get electricity going. That'd be nice if that was the only thing keeping the comm node down.
>>
>>20379318
>>20379286
>>20379255
You consider going down and checking the poor bastard. Then you nearly bust out laughing. To think, you thought about getting close to another corpse voluntarily. No, not this time. You carefully walk up to the control room, making as little noise as possible and constantly keeping one eye and the prone form below. You reach it safely try the door. It opens!

Sliding it shut, you turn around and survey the room. It is walled on two sides by various switches and gauges, most of which are in the green. The other two walls are the door you entered through and a transparent overlook complete with computer and a single large lever. You touch the computer's screen, for lack of keyboard, and a prompt appears. [Power in standby. Begin restart procedures?] Yes, that sounds good.

You affirm this course of action and a great hum fills the air. The very molecules of oxygen seem to tremble with potential energy. The trembling becomes even harsher. It looks like the world is being split into different, incorpeal planes. Another prompt appears on the screen. [Generators ready. Please make sure containment is clear before thriwing master switch.] Below, the slumped form has risen to a standing position. The head has extended up a few feet toward the control room.

You decide and that it's clear enough down there. With a small smile, you push the lever forward.

-continued-
>>
>>20379582
The vibrations suddenly stop as the lever slams home. You have a clear view of the latcher throwing up a tendril onto the nearest dome, no doubt intending to scale it. Then the world bursts into blinding light as massive arcs begin jumping between the domes. The hostile abomination is starkly defined by the light as it twists and contorts in the flow of energy. Between the zaps and zacks, you can almost hear its terrible screams.

As you leave the control room and head back inside, the poor thing burts, unable to conduct the current any longer. A generous amount of reflective dust showers the catwalk, and it is absorbed by your watch in short order. [800cr]

>Next on the to-do list?
>>
>>20379654
take a shower. i think some of it got on us. maybe check out the food court, if we're feeling brave/suicidal
>>
>>20379654
>>20379582
Gentlemen, we did good.
>>
Go behind the counter and destroy any monster that could get behind you as you leave.
>>
>>20379725
Come on, it would have attacked us the first time. We're probably fine.
>>
Well we still want real food right?
>>
>>20379582
If the power is up can we call Titan now?
>>
>>20379805
Oh wait, his watch is still broken. Does the watch detect if any of the others are in range?
>>
>>20379765
See
>>20379215
EVERYTHING.
>>
>>20379654
Let's check if that was the only problem with the comm node. Maybe now that the power is on and we're near the actual comm node, see if the watch can do a diagnostic.
>>
>>20379813
>>20379725
>>20379718
What comes after popping a corpse that thinks it's clever? Dinner and a shower, of course! According to your map the showers should be right above you. So you take the first staircase you see up to the second floor.

Lo and behold, showering facilities! Fully stocked with all the amenities you could ever hope for. You decide that afterball you've been through till now, a nice ritual cleansing would be perfect. You install your totally-state-of-the-art-security-alarm-cleverly-disguised-as-a-tin-can above the door and then promptly get to scrubbing.

Once satisfied, you check out the wounds Crispy inflicted upon you. They're healing up nicely. The sight of them brings to mind your russian friend, and the others you've yet to meet. You wipe off your watch, which turned out to be waterproof, and bring up the call function again. The same maintenance message flashes up, as well as an unchanged list of names. Guess ther's still work to be done. You suit up, collect your alarm, and head back down for a bite.

The cafeteria is a bit less threatening when fully illuminated. Maybe that smear heading behind the counter isn't blood after all?

>What do?
>>
>>20380146
of course it's blood, and there's forty seven monsters waiting to rape/eat you. approach cautiously, maybe have one of those grenades ready
>>
>>20380146
assume it's blood, and find something reflective, like a broken mirror or a large piece of glass and duct tape that shit to TLK. You now have a way to look over the counter, Saving Private Ryan style.
>>
>>20380146
If that isn't blood, I'm an elderly scottish fishwife that goes on murdersprees with a banjo.

Ready TLK in stabbing position. If anything moves, attack with extreme prejudice. While yelling SKREEEEEE.
>>
>>20380291
>>20380276
>>20380226
Food would be nice. But they'll have to carch you pretty early in the morning before you ignore something like a bloody smear. You hold the TLK a little higher, ready to strike. You also cast about for any reflective item that might let you peek around counters. Sadly, the only readily available scenery are the piles of tables and chairs.

You resign yourself and creep closer to the counter. It definitely smells like blood, that's for sure. And there's so much of it, and oh shit a tentacle just quickly retracted out of sight. You hear the all too familiar gasp of lungs not meant to be breathing in their current state. There really is something back there. And the bastard is waiting for you.

If you're lucky, you might be able to take it by surprise. It still hasn't moved.

>Are you feeling lucky?
>>
>>20380542
haha luck. seriously, we have explosives. or if you don't want to wake everything/tear down building, we could try to stab it.
>>
>>20380564
The bombs would probably slap its shit but...yeah, everything else in here would wake up.
>>
>>20380542
hmmmm.....

Let's try drawing it out, hiding then ambushing the fucker.
>>
>>20377841
>>20377809
I may be a little late on the number speculation, but...why not try 82*1492? 122344 is six digits, and rather suspicious looking (at least to me)
>>
>>20380744
Oh damn it! It was so simple!
>>
>>20380789
Let's wait until AFTER we unlock it to start saying things like that.
>>
>>20380696
>>20380650
>>20380564
You briefly touch your pack, remembering that you still havevtwo perfectly good explosives. Yeah, those would probably do the job. As well as draw everything in this building down upon your head. You opt for a smarter, stealthy approach. Backing slowly away, you run over to one of the piles o' furniture scattered about the room. With a good shove it comes tumbling down. Perfect.

You dash behind another as the animate corpse rises jerkily to its feet, beginning a slow shamble toward your orchestrated disturbance. As it nears your hiding place, you have a clear view of the pulsing puppetmaster seated on its shoulder. In a few moments it'll be in the perfect position.

>>20381160
The voices in your head attempt to distract you with more numbers, and this one damn near shakes yoir head apart. Odd, you should probably get that looked at. Oh yeah there's a walking dead thing to violently murder.

With cold precision you jump out from your hidey-hole, TLK whining through the air in a graceful, dealy arc. As graceful as a broken table leg with a knife duct taped to it can be. But still quite deadly. A trio of tendrils aimed at your face make it barely four inches from the parasite before it and the corpse it controls crumple to the ground. The watch snatches up another shiny bit from the parasite's body as it dries up. [850cr]

That certainly went well. Imagine if you'd had a little time to prepare for your other encounters. The retrospects seem daunting. In celebration of quick victory, you raid the fridge. A few minutes later you find yourself enjoying a robust sandwich of various meats, cheeses, and leafy vegetables, as well as a delightfully fizzy juice drink. [Pizza] may have been good for a second, and sustained you thus far, but real food...it's just good.

And of course all good things must come to an end. You stand up, sated, and consider yout next move.

>What might that move be?

All I can gather so far is that whatever makes these monsters is called the bloom. The fact that they keep popping cr probably has something to do what one or both of these things are. I'm dreadfully curious about what happened in this setting.

You feel like something has just clicked inside you. Like a small portion of your muddled brain is finally making sense somehow. Could it really be? With slightly shaking hands you retrieve the case from your pack. Slowly but surely you type in the numbers.

>122344
[Confirmed]
[Welcome home, honey. I missed you.]

The lock disappears into the case as if it never existed. It is with no small amount of trepidation that you slowly flip it open, eyes wide ready to receive their first glimpse of treasure. You open it fully and bask in the of...nothing. It's empty. It looks like two relatively thick slabs of metal that just fit together. And you can't even close it anymore. The hinges went away too.

Well this is anticlimactic. You were all ready for something awesome to be in there. Instead it turned into a big hunk of nothing. What a complete waste of time. All those voices in your head, all that deliberation for a giant metal clam? Unfuckingbelievable. You have half a mind toss into the first incinerator you find.

-click-

You spin around instantly, TLK and open case ready to bash heads. Huh. Might just be the watch.

-click-click- clack

There it is again. Definitely wasn't the watch. You were looking at it.so what could it possibly be…?

-clickclickclickclick-

Is it the case? It is. The case is rapidly breaking down into small pieces, and those pieces are being folded into a recognizable shape. Some are elongating, others are seperating, all are moving much more than you'd be expect. Hell, you didn't expect any of them to move.

With a final click, the complete item rest easily in your hands. The smooth barrel, contour grip, folding stock, hologram sight. You grin, and for a moment, it's like someone else is speaking through you.

Hello, Martha.
>>

It was SO FUCKING SIMPLE. I made that riddle way, way more complex than it needed to be.

Kiss the gun's barrel. Oh, thank god, a gun. OUR gun. Wonderful.

Lets load it with those shotgun shells we bought, since I assume it takes shotgun shells. Then, lets see about buying more ammo.
