"Look, check it out!" Clarissa says, pointing up at a billboard above the palm trees. On its flat surface Captain America and several other famous figures look out over the street, and below their faces reads 'SEE TROUBLE? BE SAFE, THEN CALL THE AVENGERS!'

"1-800-AVENGERS?" Atlas asks, tilting his head to re-read the number. "Shock me, there *were* a lot of powers in the Heroic Age!"

"No, it's a phone number-" Clarissa says, waving her hands to try and explain as Atlas looks on cluelessly. "You dial it with a telephone, and-"

"Oh, man, I saw one of those billboards in the city," Sam cuts in, snickering. "We should totally crank call it."

"Or not," Megan says, crossing her arms over her chest. "You do know the Avengers have amazing cutting-edge technology, right? I think they would probably be able to trace our call. You want to get beaten up by Iron Man?"

"OK, kids, here you go!" Sam's mom says as she hands out ice-cream cones to each of you.

"Thank you, Mrs. Binh!" the teenagers reply in unison, and as the six carefree tourists stroll down the Florida boardwalk crowded with vendors, surfers, bikini models, Midwesterners and muscle-builders, eating their ice-cream cones, amazed and enraptured with the spectacle around them, a double-wide splash page highlights each of them!

Aino Virta, aka Tachyon. Mutant time-slower. Spent her first day of summer vacation in the year 2099, and a few other whens.

Clarissa Smith, aka Remote. Mutant technopath. Currently crushing on...

Atlas, aka Charles. Mutant slave from the year 2099. That baseball cap hides a head full of electronics.

Megan Van Hollen, aka Tesla. Mutant bio-electric emitter. This is her first vacation since her powers kicked in.

Samantha Binh, aka Dragonfly. Mutant flyer. Aino's best friend.

Mrs. Binh, aka Mom. She's bankrolling this entire trip.

"We should start our own superhero business," Clarissa says while Sam's mom is distracted with a rack of dolphin-themed T-shirts.

"Pff, yeah right, you know how much cash that would take? The Avengers have a *mansion*," Sam scoffs.

"We *do* have a mansion," Clarissa shoots back.

"No, the Professor has a mansion. *We* have the privilege of living there as long as we keep our grades up," Megan interjects.

"Sam's mom could pay for our stuff," Clarissa smirks, poking her. "Just tell her we're gonna save the world and stuff!"

"Yeah, right!" Sam laughs, almost losing her scoop of ice cream. "I mean, she knows I'm a mutant who can fly, but I mean, come on, do you think I told her that we stole a plane and flew to Manhattan and Aino got shot by that Mentallo guy?"

"Pipe down, big-mouth," Clarissa says as Sam's mom returns, clutching a plastic shopping bag.

"Let's see... we have three hours before we need to be at the airport. Do you kids want to go to the arcade like you said earlier, or those go-karts we saw on the way over here?"

"This is so unsaaaaafe!" Atlas yells in fearful exhilaration as he tears around the track, bumping and weaving around the other cars, as you and everyone else tries their hardest to achieve victory!

"Hey, I wanted to go to the arcade!" Clarissa shouts as she takes a turn too wide and is passed by you and Sam! "No fair, mine's broken!" she pouts as she struggles to catch up with the rest of you!

"Sorry, chief, winner takes all!" you hear Sam say as she streams past you, accelerating as she creeps up on Megan-

"Yeaaaaah!" Sam cries in triumph as she overtakes Megan in the final lap, zooming into the pit ahead of everyone else, with Megan close behind! As you pull in behind her, Atlas' cart thumps against your rear bumper!

"Sorry!" he calls up. "This is fun! Do lots of people around here drive these things?"

As you unstrap the seatbelts and climb out onto the raised concrete above the pit, you hear someone shouting from the boardwalk nearby!

    "Look out! It's grabbing another-"

    *CRASH*

The other teenagers jump at the sound, and as the kids and Mrs. Binh step out of the shade into the bright sunny street, you see a towering figure made up of-

"Are those... palm trees?" Clarissa asks, watching the twenty-foot high figure smash a sunglass dealer's hut and uproot a palm tree out of the ground, somehow taking it into itself and growing even larger! "Maybe we should-"

    "Yeah, let's, uh-"

"Come on, Mrs. Binh, let's get out of here before someone gets hurt!" Megan says, leading Sam's mom

"You wanna stick around and see if the Avengers really show up?" Sam asks you as you flee the chaos with the others.

We should find some cover but stay as close as is reasonable just in case we need to intervene, but the rest of the gang should head to safer ground. Clarissa and Atlas's powers aren't going to be massively useful in a plant fight, and having Sam and Megan engage plant-thing would blow our cover.

...Not to mention that Sam's mom is both a unpowered civilian and RIGHT HERE, and she's probably wouldn't be too happy seeing her daughter charge off into battle. We can use our powers to slow down planty at the very least, and we can probably do so without being spotted. Someone else should stick with us to watch our back though. Pairs tend to be a lot safer than solo acts.

"Yeah, Mom's safe - the others guys will watch out for her. We can just say we got separated. Come on, let's go," Sam says as the two of you begin to wade against the crowd of the last to flee the site.

"Hey, come on, kid, move your feet!" Sam says, pulling a small boy laying on the sidewalk back upright. "Where's your mom?" she asks the crying youngster, and as he sniffles and points at a woman looking in all directions frantically she rushes forward with him and hands him back to his grateful mother!

"*I* just totally saved that kid. He could have gotten crushed by that plant monster," she says as the two of you slip into the narrow space between a lime-green swimsuit shack and an empty pizza store, coming out on the far side of the block on an empty street. The two of you can just barely see the top of the creature's palm-covered head on the other side of the low buildings, but as you peek through an alley it seems like most of the people are out of the area - the thing's rampage seems to be concentrated largely on property!

"You think you can slow it down from here, or is that too far away?" she ask, as you hear the first gunshots of police crack in the air! The thing bellows in rage, and a moment later you hear the shouts of police as it smashes a patrol car!

We can't stop it. Well, we could, but that would look suspicious. No, I say we slow it down by 25%. That should cushion any of its blows against the police and property, and give anyone else time to get away from it, without anyone being too aware that it's not moving as fast as it could be. We're helping, slowing it until the Avengers arrive, and protecting police officers, but not blowing our cover. If we stopped it completely, someone would know something is up and look for us. This might be a decoy to flush out mutants in hiding.

One of the officers yells "Fire!" and the creature begins to roar just as the bullets impact against its tough wooden hide, when suddenly it pauses motionless and completely silent!

"You did it!" Sam says as you throw an arm around her and concentrate, holding a narrow band of realtime around the two of you while the twenty-foot tall car-smashing palm tree remains locked in the clutch of your tachyon field! "Wow, I think your range is getting better," she remarks.

"So how long are you gonna hold it like this?" Sam asks as the police shout orders at each other in confusion over their sudden victory.

"Hey, *there* you are," a voice behind you says, and as you and Sam look backward you see Clarissa standing behind you! "I told your mom I had to go to the bathroom. Somehow I knew you guys were going to do this."

"And if you keep this up for another two minutes the Avengers will be here," she says. "You know their plane is called a Quinjet?"

    Two minutes later...

A whispering roar is heard coming from the horizon, and a small blue craft streaks into view and slows, hovering motionless above the frozen tree-monster. As it lands, the girls on the far side of the alley can see three figures emerge - one in a red, white, and blue uniform with a round shield, someone in head-to-toe red and yellow armor, and a brown-haired woman in red!

As the girls watch, the three costumed figures circle around the frozen creature, examining it, and begin speaking with the police!

Just as Captain America is taking a statement from one of the officers, nodding as the man gestures wildly from side to side, Iron Man raises his hand and says something that makes all three of them spring to readiness!

As the palm-creature begins to move they hurl energy blasts and a metal shield at it, and while the ground underneath improbably collapses and momentarily traps the creature, it frees itself and grabs Captain America in one claw!

As the creature raises him up to its splintery mouth, someone suddenly springs up from nothingness on the sidewalk next to it, quickly growing to man-sized, then to the same size as the creature itself!

"And what a surprise, he's wearing red," Sam says dryly as the twenty-foot tall man punches the palm-tree creature, catching it off-guard. "Man, we should have popcorn or something for this."

The now-giant man grabs the palm-creature in a trunk-lock from behind, and shakes off a thunderous blow thanks to the strange helmet he wears! As he clutches it to keep it from escaping, the creature roars again... and begins to fall apart in chunks!

"Sorry, big fella, this is the best way to deal with you right now," the giant says in a booming voice, gradually shrinking in size as the tree-creature collapses on itself. As he does so, Captain America looks around and calls out "Thank you!" in your direction.

"Ohmygosh, do you think he knows where we are?" Clarissa asks.

"Maybe we should go say hi, right?" Sam responds. "What do you think, chief?"

From what it sounds like, a kid dug up a sprout on the beach... must have washed up near here. Normally they're a little smarter than this - might have been a malformed offspring of some kind. And we're trying to NOT out ourselves as mutants. The press will be here soon. Have Clarissa use Iron man's suit's speaker to quietly tell Cap 'you're welcome. To be fair, we should probably destroy it. Should being the relevant part.

We'd never destroy technology while there's SCIENCE to be done, because unless the world's going to blow, we'll get our fun. And though we wouldn't build a gun, we can make the suit run, for the mutants that are still alive. And believe me, they will stay alive. Stay alive.

Anyway, musical feature aside, we keep the suit. Idolization aside, we won't mention it in public. Doesn't Professor X have it now, anyway?

It's been speculated by Dr. McCoy that Aino might turn out to be an Omega-level mutant in the future, and from what we've glimpsed, he might be right!

Then again, her first night at the Mansion, she had a bit of an experience (see issue #1). Whether or not that might occur again, who can say?

    Sam is Korean.

    Aino is Finnish.

I'm not sure where the confusion got started, but there you go.
