I agree it would LOOK excellent, but what kind of topics would it cover? I can see it becoming some form of long political battle like many epic space themed genre's before it.

What would we like to see? Something like a rogue-trader group running around in the universe? Or discussion about the little known other empires?
    >> Anonymous 02/10/09(Tue)21:24 No.3674957
The more advanced tech was extremely stupid (lol you cant see me, lol we build gravity generators that are moar gravitatunul than a fucking sun) and should be cut out.

The weaponry was also ridiculous. Everyone who's seen the Galactica shooting should know this.

Just do an animated film about the first game. Expand a bit about the political situation of the Taiidans, and have them give the back story so the Kushans can remain ignorant.

We can have first an epic journey that is in the Homeworld, then a series about young Hiigaran empire trying to survive somehow and earn it's place on the starmap. Yeah, political story sounds alright. Then a prequel about the war that caused the Exile.

That depends on when in the timeline it would take place. There's a 5 year gap between the end of the first game and the beginning of Cataclysm. Lots of political turmoil and civil upheaval following the dissolution of the Taidanii Empire and the formation of the Republic, so that might be an option.

If there will be Homeworld anime you better pray it'll be like LoGH, as it's one of the best shows about space conflicts that ever existed. It has real politics, battle tactics and strategy, there is no mecha, no plotholes, no plotarmor, no angsty teenagers, no overpowered units, people die if they are killed, typical space battle claims hundreds of thousands lifes, it avoids cheap moralisations and one of the sides are fucking germans in space. That's why most anime fans don't like it, because it's not like typical anime. I love Homeworld from he bottom of my heart, and that's why I started al these four fucking threads, but Jesus, Sajuuk and God-Emperor help me if LoGH is not one of the best shows that graced my computer screen. By that I mean losing every ship I started with and then building more, then losing those, etc. In HW1 each frigate you lost was like a kick to the balls, in HW2 I felt like the Soviets or something, just throwing wave after wave of ships and taking tremendous losses to win by attrition. I understand the Hiigarans have hax resource collecting, but seriously I should have run out of people to crew the ships a long time ago. *sigh*

HW2 had some plot inconsistencies. The hyperspace cores were the big one. There were 3. So what exactly did they do? Smaller ships could already hyperspace around without it, even capships and clearly the Emperor's flagship didn't have one and it was jumping about nor other motherships on the counsel could have one since they were all owned by the Hiigarans, the Bentusi and Vaygr. So what did they do?

The Kun-Laan, knowing that the beast exists outside the galaxy, uses Bentusi technology to leave the galaxy and find and kill the beast once and for all.

They are never seen again, but to this day, if you are close enough to the galactic rim, and have your long range scanners pointed in just the right spot, you can detect just the faintest energy burst indicative of a siege cannon firing off in the distance.

So the story goes, at least.

Bentusi "unboud" means you are "bound" to your ships. Just like the beast does it but you remain yourself and you are in control. And Karan is Unbound too, at least as long as she is bound to the mothership as it's core.

Being "unbound" was strongly implied to be linked physically with your ship, like Sjet was.

They refer to her being unbound, as the Mothership becomes an extension of herself and she experiences space and existence on a differently level.

Presumably, death would end this, since Karan herself is seemingly immortal.

Unlike the Bentusi, Somtaaw developed a technology that prevented their capital ships from being infected. A little tinkering eith it and you just might protect even your fighters. Some little more research on the bentusi and the beast and you pretty much don't even need pilots for your fighters. So pretty much Somtaaw Fleet Commander can do it.

I don't see that being applied to fighters, because that was FLOODING THE INFECTED AREA AND ALL AREAS ADJACENT TO IT WITH SUPERHOT DRIVE PLASMA. That's why your capital ships took so much damage when the infection weapons hit, it was the only way to save the ship.

For an unbound, that would be like cutting out your kidney to prevent kidney cancer.

Rather than allow itself to be taken, it fired all siege cannons at once, with detonation range set to 1 meter.

If salvaged Vagyr records are to be believed, this Somtaaw vessel destroyed no less that 57 Vagyr capital ships, and countless smaller craft.

The differenci is that biohazard protocols leave the ship pretty much undamaged, so you can design and construd that kind of ship where upon detecting infection the infected part will be sterilized. The design will make it so that no one/minimal crew will be in the sector upon the infection, so loses in men will be minimal.

And given McGuyver capabilities of the Hiigarans they can design a ship that has beast-proof outer layer (something like constand sterilization) and lots of smaller in-ship sterilization protocols.

On the other hand, under the anonymous system, even though your opinion/information is criticized, you don't know with whom to be upset. Also with a user ID, those who participate in the site for a long time tend to have authority, and it becomes difficult for a user to disagree with them. Under a perfectly anonymous system, you can say, "it's boring," if it is actually boring. All information is treated equally; only an accurate argument will work.

    (Taiidan Emperor): Karan.

(Taiidan Emperor): You have taken one step too close to me.

(Karan): How do you know of me? How are you even speaking to me?

(Taiidan Emperor): I have watched you aproach, in you I sensed one like myself...there is no need to fight. Your people listen to you, have then throw down their arms and your people will prosper in ways they could never have dreamed of before.

(Karan): Your words are full of lies and nothingness, and even if they were not, I...no, WE would never forgive what you have done!

(Taiidan Emperor): ...you can feel my power, little one...you know you cannot hope to fight me on this plain...that I will break you in half.

(Karan): I know, and I don't care. You've already done your worse, this is nothing. Come and test my defenses, you will find me not as helpless as you might have hoped!

(Taiidan Emperor): So foolish, your race really doesn't know when to stop. So be it!

    (Karan): *Screams*

All of these individual characters detract from the story. Keep it simple and limit it to people who spoke in the games; ship crews should be anonymous and temporary.

One of these days I need to beat cataclysm. It's the only one I haven't beaten, but every time I try, I just get bored. HW1 was hard as fuck but fun. Cataclysm is stupid hard and not fun.

It sucks when you don't have any decent ships in between fighter and destroyer weight.

    >> Anonymous 02/11/09(Wed)01:43 No.3677205

Multi-beam frigate was good against fighters, yes. But you had Somtaaw's uberhax bentusi fighters to kill fighters. There wasn't a real good anticap ship till you got destroyers.

Ramming frigates? Mimic ships? Cute, but give me a good old fashioned assault or ion frigate any day. Most of the Cataclysm ships were too gimmicky and not very practical.

I usually captured that teladi heavy cruiser, missile destroyer and regular destroyer on that mission where the fleet is supposed to sneak past a research station.

Never really noticed the lack of firepower in the game because of this.

Alas, it looks like >>3676331 beat me to the comparison, and others probably beat me to them before in the other threads. Maybe I should have put more blatantly IT'S LIKE I'M REALLY PLAYING BATTLESTAR GALACTICA! AWESOME!, but you shouldn't have gotten so defensive or bloated. If I had put down "sage for /v/," by all means brag about a successful thread count that has been dwarfed by the amount devoted to fluffing out and statting sergals, but otherwise, as you put so humbly yourself, your topic is doing fine.

An anime series would be badass.

I'm imagining that an officer would speak to the assembled pilots using the movie scripts from the game.

"... the subject did not survive interrogation."
