Now we know Orkz can add moar dakka to Kushani Mothership, Progenitors can fuck everyones shit up and are the reason why the nids are running from their previous galaxy, given enough time Hiigarans can be a real pain in the ass or even a major threat to the IoM, and Karan S'Jet is hot and should become The God-Empress if she isn't one already.

Gonna derail by posting a moment of inspiration I had a few minutes ago:
Imagine a Myst clone done to expostulate on the day of the discovery of the stone. It's kind of like Dig too but in real time instead of point/click, because you're part of the search team that made physical contact with the ship. You don't just find the stone, you have to explore the derelict ship and find your way through the interior- solve puzzles whether it's decrypting old security systems or using power tools to cut through bulkheads, etc etc.
Just kind of thought about it because I watched the beginning cutscene on Youtube and thought about how awesome it would be to find that stone at the end of a kind of Myst like adventure.

Was gonna post this in the other thread as a reply, but you guys already moved on, so:

If DoW2 is any indication, I wouldn't raise my hopes for HW3 (if it ever gets released) being moddable. Either it's because of DLC or because of that the new engine actually is as mod-unfriendly as Relic says, but either way it doesn't seem likely.

The Progenitors are interesting in that they appear to have been human in form, or at least reasonably similar, similar enough that their ships allowed Hiigaran and Vaygr crews to live on and interact with them, and Sajuuk was quite readily compatible with Karan.

We don't get any canon pictures of Alien-looking crews from the other races, so it's at least not out of the question that Hiigaran, Vaygr, Bentusi, Taiidan, Turanics and all are offsprings of the same Progenitor species. The old story of the ancient race seeding the galaxy with life that resembles themselves.

I love that moment when Fleet Command and Fleet Intelligence sound so choked up, when they are normally so calm. The guy in Fleet Intelligence sounds like he's going to cry when he mentions the orbital facilities...I think he knew someone there.

(Fleet Command): No one’s left…Everything’s gone!...Kharak is burning!

(Fleet Intelligence): Kharak is being consumed by a firestorm. The Scaffold
has been destroyed. All orbital facilities destroyed. Significant debris
    ring in low Kharak orbit.

(Fleet Intelligence): Receiving no communications form anywhere in the

Essentially, you are 'Fleet Command', but Fleet Command can still think and act independently of you and in fact gives you orders whenever Intelligence isn't. Also, I enjoyed how Fleet Intelligence was often completely and utterly wrong about things. Just like in real life amirite.

The Deacon's baptism of fire came at the battle of Coruc Farr, when two Somtaaw Destroyers were left alone to hold off a Beast Heavy Cruiser and a full flight of infected strike craft. In the thick of battle, the lead Destroyer, the Naar-Tel, closed with the beast cruiser and was raked by an infection beam. As deck after deck of the Destroyer fell to the Beast infection, the Naar's Captain made a desperate decision to vent drive plasma into the infected areas and then out into space. At the cost of gutting a quarter of his own ship and killing a sizable percentage of his own crew, the Naar's Captain was able to keep his ship in the battle and help destroy the beast Cruiser.

It CAN be killed, but it has several times more hitpoints than the Mothership and usually it runs away before you can bring enough firepower to bear. But it's corvette class, and so it can be trapped by a Gravity Well Generator.

Never tried it myself, to be honest, but I hear the firepower you need is insane. Don't remember if the thing also has regen, if so you probably need a sizeable salvaged fleet from all the levels before Karos. I bet having those Multi-beam frigates helps quite a bit.

I know what I'm about to say is more /v/ related, but I trust the maturity of us fa/tg/uys more. Personally, I would love an MMO set in the Homeworld universe. I'd set it up like a combination between EVE Online and Mass Effect, but I would make the scale a bit smaller and I would center the game around exploration and salvaging from the Progenitor's shitpiles. When you look at the pictures from in-game and the concept art for Karos Graveyard, the utterly massive string of wreckage, on such a ludicrous scale, would offer so much hidden technologies and danger, kind of like the wild west or gold rush, but in space. You could command a ship(upgradeable, crew too) (although it would be pretty small, maybe a max crew of 50 or so). You could explore all around and inside these wrecks, filled with wonderful danger and potential glory. Any thoughts on that kind of concept? I think it would be pretty rad. I love the epic scale of the maps in HW2.

My one big problem with homeworld is that almost everything about them makes sense from a military standpoint except their ship design. It's fucking retarded, it's a bunch of flat shapes with all kinds of little important looking bits poking out. You need curves to help deflect ordinance, if it's poking out it's a shitload easier to destroy. The Borg had the right idea with sphereical ships, but then they decided to make their best ships cubes...

from leaving is to destroy that gate!

(Bentusi): Do not attempt to stop our translocation! Cease your attacks or be destroyed. Do you not understand what has happened? WE WILL NO BE BOUND!

(Tactical Officer): Kiith’s blood!!! More stations coming out of hyperspace. They’re powering up main weapons. We don’t have a chance! Prepare to
    engage hyperspace module!

(Fleet Command): Negative! Without that cannon working, we’re as good as dead. Better to be blown to atoms now than wait for the Beast to hunt us down.

(Fleet Command): You are killing us!! You and your precious stories! Who will remember the crew of that ship? Or are flicker-lives not worth remembering?

(Bentusi): You seek to trap us in a diseased Galaxy. This cannot be. This cannot be. Desist and we will allow you to leave. We . . . regret the loss of your memories.

(Fleet Command): REGRET?! We regret the loss of the whole sand-cursed Galaxy!!! Stop murdering us and help us kill the Beast!

monster is as good as another.

(Bentusi): We. . .are. . .not. . .monsters.

(Fleet Command): Aren’t you? Look around. Look what have you done to our fleet. All because we dared to get in your way! Look at yourselves--the Aloof
and Mighty Bentusi! Slaughtering the people who asked for your help. You’re worse than the Beast. At least the Beast doesn’t pretend to be righteous.

(Bentusi): We fear. For the first time in the countless orbits. . .We fear.

(Fleet Command): Join the Kiith! We’re not blind, just scared. As scared as you. Now are you going to help us, or are we going to have to ram this
mining ship down the throat of the first station that approaches?

(Bentusi): That will not be necessary. We see our own madness reflected in yours. We will do what we can to help.

Apparently, Kushan ship armour design consists of a layer of flexible kinetic armour used as a base, covered in an absorptive layer and then an ablative outer coating. All over the ship. And presumably between the outer hull and the superstructure.

I assume they'd put more, thicker layers on larger capital ships as well. Just for good measure.

And the explosions look a bit more like in space-based animè.

Maybe somewhere around Babylon 5? It has the ancient race thing and the pew pew guns and the hyperspace and some techno-telepathy and some low-yield planetkillers and the fighter physics are a bit similar.

I'm of the opinion that kith somtaaw essentially gave their race the finger after getting a few years of recognition, then everyone going 'so uumm.. wheres the minerals that your supposed to be mining, get back to work' leading to the kith striking out into unknown space to create their own empire of fuckawesomeness.

Well, Homeworld started out originally as a Battlestar Galactica game, but they couldn't get the license. So they fluffed out a whole new universe (and a better one at that) along a similar theme. A civilization destroyed, the ragtag remnants fighting it's way across the universe for a lost world of legend, the new home world.

With that said, would a Homeworld tv series reimagined like BSG work?

I can see it. Certainly, their ship designs are wildly different enough to make their own culture... and they've got enough badassness that anyone who fucked with them would be very, very sorry after a very, very short time. Also, fighters with ion beams to bail themselves out if they're really in trouble.

This is the Garden of Kadesh. For thirteen generations we have protected it from the unclean. The Turanic Raiders who came before you refused to join and were punished for this trespass. Like theirs, your ship has already defiled this holy place. If you have come to join we welcome you and will spare your ship until all have disembarked. If you have come to consume the garden you will be removed at once. What are your intentions?

Well, yes its GOOD. But there arn't any characters you can identify with.

Karen S'jet would be an important character, but she can't go anywhere. It would, however, be fuckawesome to see the series from her point of view, her only connection to the other characters in the series being through internal cameras and whatnot. Seeing them every day, no matter where on the ship they go, but never being able to see them face to face. technically she watches everyone, but there are a few that are her favorite to watch/ are important to the fleet.

Yeah, they're essentially the same thing. The Kushans were just exiled Hiigarans who eventually forgot about their origins. They then re-adopted their Hiigaran persona when they reclaimed their homeworld.

He then goes on to be the most important pilot ever, and even though his ship gets blown up damn near every time, he always survives.

Fact: there is only one salvage corvette operator. The other salvage corvettes you see are optical illusions.

So we need a shit-ton of great characters, but there will probably end up being a group of 10 or less that make up the "main" cast.

So... engineers, research personnel, and an ever growing group of easily recognizable "faces" who are people that are coming out of cryosleep throughout the series.

Imagine, going to sleep expecting to wake up on a brand new world you have only heard of in legend. and then you wake up, to find that you arn't at the Homeworld. The world you did know is gone, burned away by an enemy you have never heard of. And now you are needed to crew the ships that were built to fight back.

I think one of the characters could be a starfighter pilot. It could seem generic but the idea of seeing the story from the point of view of a young guy who's basically a front line fighter charged with the responsibility (along with many others) of securing the future of an entire race is a helluva POV.
