If you are plugged in, try removing the battery. The empty space can help heat travel away from the computer, and some batteries generate heat.

    >Back. 'Ere we go.

You wake up on the couch, and Elsie immediately stands up and yells at Dave.

He comes over and gives you a once over, before shining a light into your eyes and helping you sit up.

    "What happened?"

"Looked like a seizure." He responds "Which is weird as hell, because I talked to your Mom and NOBODY in your family has seizures, and scans from your piloting don't show any signs of Neurological problems."

"....Our brains get scanned while we pilot?"

"It's a side effect of the synch process. Besides, it's not like we can read minds with it, just see how healthy brain tissue is."

You look around the room. Elsie looks really worried, Mooch and Morgan look relieved. Ari looks like she'd been crying a little, and Laurie is trying to comfort her.

    "Why don't I hurt? Didn't I fall down a staircase?"

"Not all the way, just a few steps before your foot caught the rail and stopped you. Besides, you've been out for two days. Bruises heal."

"....if I were out for two days, why am I on the couch fully dressed?"

"I was kinda hoping you could tell us that. You WERE in your bed about an hour and a half ago when I left and told Elsie to keep an eye on you while I got something to eat. When she got here you were on the couch, the IV was disconnected, and you had somehow acquired pants."

    "And remained comatose?"

"No, I just don't think you were fully awake or aware. Kinda like sleepwalking."

"So I half woke up, got dressed, and walked out to pass out on the couch, and don't remember this? Doesn't that strike you as... odd?"

"Not particularly. People with an altered mindset caused by drugs, hormone imbalance, or light neurological trauma sleepwalk. It happens. On the list of things that DON'T happen? Healthy people in their late teens with no prior history, genetic or otherwise, of neurological problems having a seizure without an obvious trigger."

"Welllll..... technically it's more like a day and a half since when you passed out we were getting into the afternoon by a bit and right now we're mid-morning."

"So, wait, what happened with the Arena? Didn't we have a match?"

"Yeah, that's where shit gets weird. When Mooch yelled at you to come talk, it was because they called to tell us that our match got delayed. The next day, we find out why. Those Mortal Wombat guys did some sort of sabotage all over the place, random vandalism shit, then they blew up a thankfully uninhabited ward at a local hospital and skipped town. Nine-Ball sort of 'dropped' out of the singles division to go after them, with his forfeiture dependent on whether he gets back in time, but he's pretty much openly stated he doesn't care about that as much as justice so who knows."

    "So that means..."

"Singles are still on, teams are suspended until further notice."

"Well, on the one hand, that's convenient. On the other: Are you telling me that I passed out and missed everything?"

"Dave said that.... that he had no way of knowing if you were even going to wake up. Apparently something like this happening is just so weird that he didn't know. He was hoping, since you have all the young and healthy stuff going for you, but...."

"Hey. Don't worry about it, I'm fine now."

"Yeah....." You pull her into a hug, then she continues. "I'm gonna go see Mom after this. Apparently she was the first person other than Mooch to see you out."

    You freeze. "How's she doing?"

"When I talked to her yesterday she was fine. She was worried, but just kinda had faith you would pull through."

Somehow, you don't buy it completely. "Well I should be better now."

"Be careful bro. We need you with us still." She whispers in your ear as she gives you a kiss on the cheek and goes to tell your mother the news.

As you eat you talk to Elsie. "So how bad was everybody freaking out?"

"Well, Ari and your Mom were the worst initially. After a little bit of freaking out, your Mom was fine when she realized you weren't exactly on Death's doorstep. Dave never really panicked, but he's been slowly getting more and more frustrated since he's never heard about something like this just up and happening. Laurie's been worried, but I can never tell if he's moderately inconvenienced or on the verge of an emotional breakdown. Mooch and Morgan.... Well Mooch is Mooch. I think he just assumed you would get better because he just had a hard time imagining you dead. Morgan's been sympathetic, but kinda awkward since she doesn't really know us that well yet."

    "I see. How about you?"

"I.... don't know. I mean, I'm worried, but I'm not sure what I should be worried about."

    "What do you mean?"

"Well, we've all been under a lot of stress lately, and you've been acting a little different. Not way off, but enough that I notice it every once in a while. Is these things separate things? Or is it cause and effect? And if that's the case, what's causing what? Is the stress making you act different and causing some sort of neurological thing? Did you take a hit to the head and this is how it's manifesting? Both? I'm worried Alex. Not just about you, but what if this is just the start of some bigger problems? What if you just keep getting worse?"

He smiles and walks over to the corner stand you just left and grabs a pair of plastic spoons.

"Hold out your drinks." He instructs, and as the two of you do so he twirls the spoons in his fingers, and the twirls them in the drinks. After a moment he lets go of them, and they slowly spin to a stop. Pointing straight up. "Now pull them out." You give it a sharp tug, and the small juice drink comes out as a Popsicle. Elsie's face lights up. You are impressed, but slightly less enchanted.

    "Nice trick."

    "So who are you?"

"Oh right, my bad. I'm David Blaine. I do illusions and magic tricks. I figured I'd run around and do some street magic to kill time until my next show. Hey, if you kids want to come to it I'll let you in free for being such good sports."

    "When is it?"

"Sure, thanks. We were wondering how to spend the day."

"Best way to experience Vegas is to go out and experience it." He then puts both of his thumbs and index fingers into a rough rectangle and looks through it like he's framing a shot. He then clicks his tongue and flips his hands over to reveal a snapshot of the two of you. "I'll just hand this off to the bouncer, so he'll know to let you in."

While Elsie looks dazed and happy, you silently wonder how he did that.

You and Elsie come across a small group of buskers performing. They're surprisingly good.

After a few minutes they start playing a more upbeat tune. Then seemingly out of nowhere Steve steps in and grabs a girl out of the crowd and starts to set the improvised dance floor on fire. At first the girl is hesitant, but after a minute she gets into it and they start to swing right there in the street.

After a few moments you grab Elsie and go. She stumbles the first couple of steps, but then quickly adapts to it. After a minute Steve winks at you and you pass the two girls spinning between you and change partners for a brief time before swapping back for the last bit of the song.

As the music draws to a halt the band leads a brief round of applause for the four, which the crowd you've seem to have gathered joins in.

Steve walks over to you and a shocked, embarrassed, and smiling Elsie.

"Hey Alex. What're you doing here?"

    "Just wandering around. You?"

"Much the same my friend. So this is-" he nudges the girl who responds 'Kara' and Steve barely misses a beat "-Kara, and let me tell you, she's a FANTASTIC dancer."

    "I know."

"Indeed you do. And judging by your lady's moves you have good taste on the matter."

You glance at Elsie. Her embarrassment has faded slightly, but her smile's grown slightly bigger. "Thank you."

"I speak only the truth. Now, I may have just dazzled this lady here, but now I need to find a way to keep her around." He says to you in a conspiratorial stage whisper.

"Happens to be I have an idea, if the lady likes magic."

    "I LOVE magic." She responds.

"That'll do then." He says, "What's you idea?"

"I just ran into David Blaine, turns out he's putting on a show just down the way. We walk there we should be right on time."

The girl seems enamored with the idea of somebody knowing David Blaine. As the four of you walk there you make sure Elsie's fine with bringing along a guest, and she smiles at you. "You promised an adventure, and so far it's been a hell of a day."

"We'll do something for just us after this though."

    "Looking forward to it."

When you get there, one of the door watchers waves the four of you past the line, and points out a private table for you to sit at. Before long, David Blaine walks out onto the stage to open his show.

    >I think I'll end here for the evening.

Dervish stands at the balcony rail looking across the street at the Hotel his contact said he could confirm his suspicions.

He looks down as the man in white catches his eye, and zooms in with his digi-scope.

White suit. Pale red hair. AR glasses.

An involuntary growl escapes his lips as he flexes the fingers on his right arm, and hears the quiet whirr of the servos inside.

And if he's here, than Fraide is likely nearby. If the info he dug up is accurate, then whoever was behind that attack in Alaska has connections in Vegas. Not that that's surprising in and of itself, everyone has connections in Vegas.

But if these two are here.... he decides to play a bit more low key until he knows more. He stifles his desire for revenge, even as the scene replays in his minds eye; fire, screams and all.

He walks away while he can still force himself to do it.
