Over the next half hour, the rest of the group trickled in. When everyone had arived, Kai stood up and pulled out the banner he had made. "Okay everyone! Let the Warhammer 40,000 anniversary party begin!"
Each of the players took turns, reading off some of their favorite things about the game and giving a story or two of their favorite battles. Earl was surprisingly eloquent, and Mortimer managed to avoid talking about weird robot stuff. Bill and Tedd even delivered their bit via a drinking song. Jeff surprised everyone by not only refraining from insulting Ash, but he actually had some really nice things to say. Kai smiled the whole time. Alex's dad really did bring out the best in everyone.
After the last player had spoken, Terra got up and thanked all of the players for their continued support. She told them how the family was pulling through thanks to all their friends, that their friends were really part of their family. Then, one by one they started to leave. Terra had to take Alex home, Bill and Tedd had games to catch, everyone had lives to get back to. Kai watched them go, but he sat by the bed, watching the man in it intently.
As the last player left, Kai continued to watch, almost expectantly. He had seen this happen plenty of times before. He had done everything right.
"... You're supposed to get up..."
