"Sticking to your guns? Don't say I didn't warn you." He almost sounds happy, though. "Don't mind me if I get a bit philosophical here." He stands, and begins to pace. "Strictly speaking, magic is something everyone has. It is a force all life forms, even those from beyond our Earth, hold inside them. Did you know a couple of the Cyrean Empire's conquests had magic traditions, before the Cyrean's stamped them out? But I digress. Magi are simply born with an excess of this force, and an innate talent to wield it, and to shape it in tune with the primal forces of this universe. No more different than some folks who are born to have big muscles, or born to be real smart."
He stops pacing, and sits back down. "So, Alice, I'm saying that anyone, with a little help, can do a little magic. If you're prepared to see how deep this rabbit hole goes, I have some options for you." He taps the blank notebook. "First step to being a honest hedge wizard is knowing some rituals. Technically speaking, anyone with a mind, and the right focusing materials, IE, magic symbols, foci and material components, can learn and do ritual magic. However, at least the traditions I come from, it's a big faux pa to just hand an aspiring Occultist a full book. You have to write it down on your own, and understand it all on your own. I can teach you some basics, and so can the books in the library, but you need to learn at your own pace, if you're fine with that."
