I am getting so sick of this Warhammer 2012 bullshit. My al-Qaeda army got gimped when Osama Bin Laden was removed as a Special Character option. Because of this, the complete removal of Iraqi Insurgents from the game a while back, and the rumors of the removal of Blackwater Mercenaries as a faction, I've since decided to switch over to building a Somali Pirate force. In the meantime, one of my WH2012 gaming buddies has decided to build a tank-heavy Israeli force.

Anyone know good ways for a Somali Pirate army to kill lots of Merkava Tanks with the impending 2012 edition right around the corner?

EU forces here with focus on Germany

I sold all my submarines to a friend who plays South Korea and one who plays Spain and Italy. I also had to give some to a friend who plays Israel for free, because I stepped on some of his minis.

Also sold all my tanks and artillery to the friends that play Poland and Turkey.
But economy is strong and I bought the new boxes of money. Guys, I love this new set! I know that it's not available to the US, Italy, Greece and lots of other armies, but Germany can field money in all FOC slots as a 1-100 entry!

If you look at the background fluff, you'll find that any system that relies on the absence of greed, ambition, and selflessness, and relies on people willingly working for the good of one another without reward or incentive

No way, dude. Blackwater Mercs kicked ass. No penalty to firing on unarmed units, and they could use ANY weapon in the game, AND be attached to any other force as an ally. So back when I played Somali Warlords, I used the Looted Vehicle rules to give my Warlord army shit like NATO and Russian tanks, and then had my Blackwater Mercs take up all my Elite and Infantry spots on my army list. The result was fucking insane, and I even put up a decent fight against a US Army list at one point.
    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)08:56 No.17680990

I like that they have high morale, good training and pretty decent gear but the "Peacekeeping Force" rule of engagement kinda crews them over, since i can't shoot first in a engagement but have to wait for the enemy to fire first.

The outcome was awesome! So many templates!!!

But the Taliban player claimed that none of his minis were among the civs.

In order to play that attack, I had to take a commanding officer, a scout team a civ informant and the current minister of defense out of the game, though

Speaking of China, once I finish paying off my credit cards, I might look into playing them. The models are quite expensive, but I heard it was OK to cast them.

That's why any NATO list has to avoid civilian casualties to stay competitive, fucking moral tracker and preferred enemy.

So i've been looking in to this, for a British army, are challenger 2s reflective of the fluff? where the only time one has been destroyed is by another one of it? (obviously i don't expect them to be that OP in game, but still some of the toughest out there). Also how do the paras and royal marines stack up? the country as a whole took quite a step down in overall power levels didn't it? can't even take half the auxiliaries you could before right?

Challenger 2s are quite well balanced, you get a very nice armour save, but you sure as hell pay for it.

Problem with the fluff is that the Challenger 2 never fought a proper up to date MBT, pretty much like every other western nation.

British standard troops aren't bad, but they're gimped pretty hard by the -5 to leadership tests when shooting at civilians, and their gear is pretty sub-standard. I haven't seen the new ed. yet, but unless they get some sort of scout ability they're just a lamer version of US standard troops.

Your best bet with a British list is to take the minimum of standard troops and bulk out on tanks and special units.

Guys, let me tell you what I found out!

You all know that the French army is unplayable, right? I found out that deeply hidden on the website, there's this small, official add-on called "French Foreign Legion".

Here's the deal: They don't use French stats but those of Germans, Americans and Asians, +1 for quality training. They are hardcore, heaving 2 wounds 11 Leadership (compare that to the 6 Ld of the French!!) and a rule named "Last one Standing". That's exactly the opposite of the French's "White Flag" rule! And no morale tracker beside the "Leave no man behind" rule. Sure, that's pretty self destructive sometimes, but I think it's cool fluff.

Lot's of people don't know about it so they are pretty surprised when I turn up with them, but they are 100% official and legal!

Oh, and they have this special unit of sappeurs. Bearded, axe-wielding motherfuckers!

Then again, I am the Nordic dude that's been on and off this thread, so the Swedish changes doesn't affect me too much, there'll always be a source of good troops no matter what type of recruitment the home country has.

Now, if there's one thing I hate it's how the current edition massively fucked my Cuban (FAR) Armor list through that damn Special Period bullshit and the tech increases. Only thing I've got left is the Machismo rule, and some uncompetative tanks.

Second edition man, having Soviet Support especially with the You want what, and where? rule was hilarious, while FAPLA auxiliares and the excessive machismo rule made my army awesome in second-tier competition, and one hell of a Tar Pit and a decent striking force. Hell, one time my buddy who played South Africans and I had a massive 5000 point match, which I swear to god lasted three days, playing almost all day. That was awesome, but we never ran it again.

Hopefully the next edition fixes this.

Yeah, but without the upgrade to the PG-7VR warhead or RPG-30, you can't take on western tanks with such a list.

Dude no. The Brits have the best Armor in the Challenger 2, followed by the IDF with fully upgraded Merkava IVs, while the Leopard 2A6 has the most firepower. Not that anything with the 120mm gun is lacking in firepower either.

German here, too. Politics really fuck up this army. And don't forget the funds. Sure, in an economic war, Germany can take on everyone. In fact, we can buy the whole EU!

And yes, fluff wise we have the best equipment, best armour, best weapon companies and so on.

But the rule "no money for armed forces" clearly says that the most upgrades are not available for our forces. They Leo2A7 upgrade is only available to foreign armies, for example. If you still buy it as German, you are cheating!

With the fall of the "draft" rule, IQ stats from Grenadier ot Officer are going to fall down from 10 to 7. Discipline fell from 11 to 6 anyway. In the same time, politics rules don't allow for proper discipline measures to at least boost the discipline back up.

Sure, the lack of special weapons is annoying, but legionaries are all about plonking on an objective and forgetting about them.

That sounds alright. Don't just chuck your troops away, though, they're not bad, and Brit lists tend to be too small to play like that. Their BS and WS is pretty high end, so drop them in cover and the cover save means they can stand up pretty damn well against troops with superior equipment. It might pay to get them mortars, too, since Brits have no minumum range on them for some reason (error? there's been no errata on it so eh). Really useful for when big footsloggy armies start rushing.

I'm pretty sure there's a Brit HQ choice that lets you give two troop choices a a scout move, so get your hands on that.

Seriously? I know they're not a top tier army, but they have a decent track record in the casual warring world.

I can't be the only one that loves their Mechanics and the Schoolyard War Factory rule, can I? Their models are just so deliciously haphazard, and don't even have that many rules where things just fall apart mid-use. Hell, their stuff doesn't even jam that often--their accuracy compensates a little, though, by being lower than average.

This is a great conversion video--if you haven't seen it, check out what you can do with a few parts scavenged from other kits and some junk from around your house. It's pretty amazing.

Have you ever seen an isurgency army like the somali rebels played in a war scenario? In the cold war era they could be used as auxilliaries by the great powers via the "proxy war" rules but today they are not viable for war. Most people play armed conflict. The politics and metagame rules are not as strict as those used for insurgency but the insurgency-type codices are still viable. In a war you would never stand a chance with a force without air assets.

Eh, defensive forces are what the US is strong against.

Besides, if Iran does get the nuclear weapons than US players don't have to worry about ROE and a few other negative special rules.

Air assets are the whole reason I don't think the campaign is going to be balanced. Sure Iran isn't terrible on the ground, but any US force is going to take a lot of air and Iran can't counter the "stealth" special rule a lot of US craft can take.

Dude they've had them since the late 1800's edition.
In the fluff the majority of Canadian regiments are Highland Regiments.

Uh. you guys realize in the fluff and economic war rules, Germany gets Synthetic oil plants, Making them fully self suffiecent in that matter, right?

BTW, no one has mantioned it here, but what do you guys think about the "Black Ops" extension?

IMO playing on a smaller scale and micro-managing is fun for a while, but it gets kinda boring.

Also, Illuminati troops are so against the fluff, it's not even funny anymore
    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)12:48 No.17682959
Illuminati are exact copies of the KSK, just with a different colorscheme.
    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)12:48 No.17682960
Nope, they get the same equipment as the non-highland regiments, but better Morale.
I think they might not have as much heavy equipment as the non-highland regiments but that doesn't matter too much when you make smart use of the Leopard C2's that the Canadians recently acquired.

    >> Anonymous 01/26/12(Thu)12:50 No.17682973
Wouldn't that give Canadian players a rediculous advantage seeing as they're already used to playing as small forces of elite infantry?

Well, there are no reall "factions" anymore, you either play NWO or PMCs, so you can pick and choose charackters from every nation there is.

It really goes against the fluff, and plays a lot differently.

Get rid of the tank, and pick some MG-Pick-Ups instead.

    >HQ: hero of the Soviet Union.
    >5 Vega Group Operators with AK-200s and a Vintorez 500 pts.
    >5 Alpha Group Operators with BISON SMGs. 500 pts. NOTHING Can beat this army. Hell, I once stormed a highly guarded fortress on a hill, under fire. With 40 Alpha Group Operators, killed the 200 guards inside and only lost two men.

What new minis should I buy for my French army? I've just made a deal selling half my tanks to a guy who plays Oil Kings, since he can make them playable for his list just by swapping the engines.

And I'm still not done painting my aircraft carrier, so I mostly rely on subs with the Nuke upgrade.

Just go Codex Tibet and have two questions.

    1. Why are all my unit choices either unarmed civilians or unarmed protesters?
    2. Why do they all have a special rule that gives Codex: China preferred enemy.

    What a useless codex

Codex: US is vulnerable in close combat, they don't have the option to take Bayonets anymore (and they'll hesitate to call in airstrikes and artillery so close to their own units), Codex: China relies on numbers, it's possible to whittle them down with elite infantry and artillery, Codex: Russia relies on armor, you're going to need plenty of air support against them.
