"So there we were, right on the front! Brother-Rook Tancred had been reduced to a steaming pile of metal and holes, and we sought to have our revenge upon these heretics. As soon as my neophytes pulled their spears from the guts of the dying Voss rocketeers, bam!" Iksender's eyes went wide and his fist smacked into his hand as he recounted the story of the battle to the mixed company of Hellghast troopers, some looking on with rapt attention and others sparing an occasional glance. "The second wave of Voss troops had arrived! Ghouls, stormtroopers, tanks, and more! They quickly surrounded me and my neophytes, though we tried to kill a few as they came! We had thought it hopeless as we looked into those ghouls' lifeless eyes, their arms outstretched to tear our limbs out of our sockets. We were too far out in front for anyone to help us. We thought ourselves doomed."
"But then," Iksender's voice is toned down to a forced whisper, "something miraculous happened. The moon gained the strange grin of a skull, and at the top of The Fist, a blue light, pure and holy, shot upwards in a column."
"It was here that our rescuers were heralded by the thundering of cannon fire! Two Ragnyll jets roared past overhead, led by a winged man who cackled as the trio shot down the Voss Gargoyles. Behind us and farther down the front, Vanguard Knight squads had miraculously appeared, shearing into undead mass. And in the midst of our Sheperds, tanks and Ragnyll assault troops came, spreading their fire against our foe. It was Alexander's blessing that we were saved that day, and it was not put to waste."
Iksender allows himself another drink from his glass before continuing. "The amazing thing was, soon as we had claimed victory against the ghouls and the first light of dawn peered over the horizon, these soldiers faded away. Most of us would not be here today, were it not for those ghosts."
