So /tg/, I haven't seen any Chapter threads in a while. And most of the good ones are for the most part done/need little active contributing. Rather then work on one previously established, I feel it is time for a new one. So if you care, shall we have a go? I'll sum things up as we go/maybe put a twist or take artistic liberty to try and make it interesting. So without further ado.

Why were we founded? Roll a d10.

    Crusade Chapter
-Founded in the 33rd Millenium around the time of the Beheading
-Geneseed is pure and from the Blood Angels and we revere our primarch
-Renowned for skill in melee and leadership under fire
-Our hero, is our chaptermaster, who Slew a daemon of note
-We are from a Temperate Feral World that we rule over with Direct Rule
-Our organization is unique with an emphasis on drop pod tactics, axes, and a large number of bodies but a disdain of ranged combat
-occasionally we fly into a rage
-we maintain a good relationship with the Adeptus Astra Telepathica and their psykers
-we have a hateboner for the Dark Eldar

Now this is how I see us going:

    1. We are the leftovers from a time of turmoil who took a rather revolutionary path. Liberating worlds as we go and maintain rule over them. Our crusade, being to unify the Imperium. Our methods are irrelevant. They simply allow for us to quickly overpower and convert worlds to our following. Our friendship is fostered by a high degree of psykers being trained and our abundance of numbers is necessary for us to control our territory.

My vote goes to a Space Wolf Codex army.

When a Lumbermarine is inducted into the Chapter, he plants a tree. As his career goes on, his tree grows. When he dies, his comrades chop down his tree with his axe, each in turn taking a swing, until finally it is downed. They then use the wood from the tree to make his funeral pyre.

As such, Lumbermarines that die after, like, a week, have unimpressive funerals. But ones that have been in the Chapter for centuries have a funeral pyre that burns entire cities to the ground.

Ah, the World Tree, we could have an Ancient Dreadnought, represented by Bjorn, who has been in service since the conception of the Chapter, his tree is said to be miles wide, and towers higher then many a mountain. This tree is a centerpiece of the chapter, a view that few see. Those that travel to the world tree, do so only in times of great need. For, the anger of the Dreadnought, is said to be capable of cracking the ground beneath him. Forests tremble at the booming of his manly voice. Waking him up in a time unneeded would be a terrible fate for the initiator.

    From a super religious site:

    Trees - represent prominent men.
Grass - represents masses of mankind.

"The first angel sounded...and the third part of the trees [prominent men] was burnt up [were converted], and all green grass [men sufficiently alive to receive or absorb the water of truth] was burnt up [were converted]." Revelation 8:7

Trees represent prominent leaders that stand above the grass, the masses of mankind. The righteous man is likened to a tree: "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water..." Psalms 1:3 The wicked are likened to the "green bay tree." Psalms 37:35

Grass represents the common masses of men. "The grass withers, the flower fades...surely the people is grass." Isaiah 40:7 It will require only a breath from the Lord to scatter all the might and glory and power of earthly institutions. All who oppose His plan will fade in the great Day of Wrath

I'm not trying to make a crossover or anything, but in Star Wars there's the theory that all the trees of Kashyyyk are connected as one large super-organism.

Maybe the Emperor's tree grew to be so large and expansive that its upper foliage is its own ecosystem and land. In other words, the trees that are planted by the Lumbermarines are planted on the Emperor's tree, which keeps the Chapter's base far, far above the ground upon a tree trunk the size of a large island. The Fortress Monastery itself is carved into the tree.

The chapter could have been founded after a passage of the Blood Angels, there, Veteran Sergeant Cleutin passed, and it is said, that blood of Sanguinus dripped from the Shroud that day, staining the earth beneath it, and from his blood, sprang a forest of red oak, crimson as far as the eye can see. Taking this as a sign, the Original Chapter Master and a few marines stayed behind to culture what would be the chapter to come.

Their growth and belief in the Emperor stems off the logarithmic spiral that is visible in nature. They as they grow, their shape is unaltered, despite any successive curves thrown their way. True proof that the Emperor's will, and Sanguinus bloodline live on.

Maybe they just have ties with forge-worlds outside their are of influence or whatever, and "import" them in?
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)04:11 No.15931611

Pretty much what I was going to write.

Better to have them import their stuff from far off, as well as make them less reliant on such things. They prefer to straight up infantry enemies.

    good plan.

Obviously it is in the boughs of the great tree that the teachings of Sanguinus are scribed. Some carved into the wood, others housed within codices large as a man. And, at the top, adorning the monolithic peak of nature, is the statue of their Primarch, visible to all with the magnification to see, overlooking the fortress and nearby towns towns, ever vigilant, keeping them under his protective wing.

I like the idea of the trees being planted by Sanguinius' blood, as well as the Emperor's Great Tree being the base.

So maybe a combination. Maybe Sanguinius sees the tree for the first time and weeps at the sight of such beauty. His tears fell and trees grew upon the great branches of the Emperor's tree. A young, rank and file Space Marine, sees this and is particularly moved by it. It is this marine that kept it alive until it becomes a major legend amongst the Blood Angels. Two or so millennium later, when a new Chapter is needed nearby such a place, it is decided that such a site must be the focus of the new Chapter.

    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)04:40 No.15931816

We've pretty much agreed on Lumbermarines.

    Anything else we need?
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)04:43 No.15931829

Well we have most of the basics in here. The most important manner being ordering it up, writing fluff etc. Counts-as stuff if we need it. Drawfaggotry/writefaggotry. Maybe some elaboration on how we view other chapters/imperial groups/other races/armies

Emperor's tree that Sanguinius sanctified with blood/tears?
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)04:57 No.15931910
Well so far all we have is Chaptermaster Joseph Montferrand The Cleaver weilder of world feller, and his companion Smokey.

We've explained both our founding and our Sanguinus worship through the crimson forest mentioned in these posts.

We've also establish upon joining each Lumbermarine plants a tree and tames a bear cub of their own.

We have some basic fluff of Smokey.
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)04:58 No.15931923

I don't know about that. See, as much as they worship the Emperor, Sanguinus is their priority. I see them viewing the Emperor, as their equivalent of God with Sanguinus being Apollonius of Tyana/Jesus.

With the tree, personally, I'd prefer it relating to the Ancient Dread. But I guess that is because I'd like the Emperor slightly removed in a sense. See:

    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:09 No.15931970

*shrug* I just don't see why the Emperor should be removed in order to make Sanguinius a priority. How could one worship Jesus if you've removed God?

He may be THE focus of the Chapter's attention, but if we're likening Sanguinius to Jesus then there should still be a strong connection to the Emperor in the legend focused upon. Such as saying that the planet was chosen because of Sanguinius' actions upon the planet. But what Sanguinius did was because of the Emperor's before him.

    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:15 No.15932004
of course. so quick question, are we doing the bloodline thing, or the given as a cub thing, or just taming it thing with the grizzlies, if so, are the bears long lived or what
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)05:16 No.15932015

Of course. We just fluffed them different.

Understandable. But I was meaning, with regards to the tree. I like the concept of a legendary dread and his tree.
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:17 No.15932020
same the dread thing sounded so epic and relicy
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:17 No.15932022

Bloodline was my idea, but if we're making them supremely long-lived (and we should, I like the connection with the trees and bigger is older sort of thing), then it makes more sense to either just have the one companion.
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:17 No.15932024
    >Space Marines
    >worshiping the Emperor
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:20 No.15932038

Well I see no reason not to be able to do both.
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:21 No.15932057

But we still have the Dread and his tree as the Fortress Monastery, and the entire forest being made up of planted trees representing individual Marines that are cut down upon their deaths. As well as Sanguinius' trees. Having an all-encompassing, landmass-sized tree of the Emperor fits his role as the Christian God. It's not the focus, Sanguinius is, but it's everywhere and everything.
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:24 No.15932079
    so beard denotes rank
bears are lifelong pals that are tamed and respect is earned as one proceeds from recruit to marine
    axes are primary weapon
    prefer wooded settlements to forgeworlds/hives
tree is planted when one is initiated, cut down in ritualistic ceremony upon ones death and used as funeral pire
bears live REALLY long, older = bigger
revere sanguinus as much as the emperor
live on sylvanus in the ydraggsfbalidsg sector
chapter master holds title of cleaver
has epic bear smokey based on polish soldier bear
world feller, only axe capaple of felling world tree, only a few chapter masters have been able to wield it
    anything else?
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:24 No.15932081

We're talking about revering these individuals and using Christian motifs and symbolism as representations.

Likening Sanguinius as Jesus and the Emperor as the Judeo-Christian God, but of course the Chapter wouldn't actually view these individuals as anything more than supreme individuals, not divine.
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:26 No.15932093

Blood Angels being our founding chapter should have a fairly close relationship.
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:34 No.15932156

I see Salamanders and Space Wolves being okay with Lumbermarines on some level due to shared bro-tier.

Blood Angels: Unless we're openly against their way of things then of course.

Iron Hands: Friction because of our lack of reliance on tech and preference for untouched worlds.

Can't think of anything for the rest of the Chapters.

Sisters: No clue. We playing traditional 18th Cent. loggermen with independent and capable wives because the husbands are fucking gone all day and too tired to fulfill their traditionally masculine domestic role, or do we go with the typical view from back then of female inferiority (to a point)?

    Inquisition: Bro-tier might cause friction
Guardsman: Bro-tier might cause utter lack of friction
    >> OP !!v11kvgDbkWO 08/14/11(Sun)05:37 No.15932166
With regards to bears, how bout calling them Kainyn-Kutho (god bear) or Irkuiem (trousers pulled down). Those were both local nicknames for a cryptid known as Bergman's Bear. Which was likely a subspecies of brown bear or a cross between one and a polar bear. It was unusually large.

    for the most part.
    >> Anonymous 08/14/11(Sun)05:45 No.15932214

I could imagine Black Templar and Lumbermarines getting along well given their shared preference for melee; but there is some friction do to sword vs axe arguments and the templar's complete disregard for the local ecosystems and inhabitants.
