    Gentlemen of teegee.
I fear that I and our party will soon face the Tarrasque. I thought about it, for a long time, and have failed to come up with an absolute way to kill it. I could teleport it on a demiplane designed for locking it away easily, but that's easy modo. I want to annihilate the Armageddon Engine.
    So I come to you.
Let us think about how to kill this monstrosity.
Note: We'll be dealing with the pathfinder version. For those unsure about its stats, consult http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/magical-beasts/tarrasque

Best way to destroy the Tarrasque is through a slowly released cycle of naughty parchments published in every major city which depict it in ever more embarrassing and compromising situations. Who will find the Tarrasque credible when they've seen it slip over in horse manure and accidentally display its bloomers to a passing cleric, eh?

Depends on who you have on your team.

If you have a smith and some magic item crafter ask to create magically enchanted adamantine chains. All coordinate in attaching the manacles, do this in a stone cavern.

Have your cleric use Shape stone to create more bindings out of solid stone, and to hold the chains even better.

Then various other spells. Just look throught the spell list and find fun utility spells.

create a floating chunk of rock 150 ft in the air. create a permanent teleportation circle on it that triggers on contact. make the circle teleport whatever touches it 100 ft straight up. teleport the terrasque onto the circle.

the tarrasque is now stuck in an infinite loop 150-250ft feet above anything it could possibly hope to destroy. set up a few signs that say "beware of falling tarrasque spines" and call it a day.

    You're missing a golden opportunity.

Don't kill it. Use spell boosting abilities and save-lowering abilities to get it to fail one save. That's all you need. Get the whole party flying and mirror imaged and other stuff like that, and then keep them trying one trick over and over again until you beat it's spell resist and it fails one save.

    Trap the Soul.

And now you have the Terrasque inside a rock. Wonder how much that's worth?

Want to be truly awful? If you're a wizard, become a Lich and use that rock as your phylactery. Then just *dare* people to break it.

With PCs helping the AC isn't really that high if you're high enough level to be fighting this.

    >No form of attack can suppress the tarrasque's regeneration—it regenerates even if disintegrated or slain by a death effect. If the tarrasque fails a save against an effect that would kill it instantly, it rises from death 3 rounds later with 1 hit point if no further damage is inflicted upon its remains. It can be banished or otherwise transported as a means to save a region, but the method to truly kill it has yet to be discovered.

you pretty much have to set up a mechanism to continually damage it. keep it shackled and have the 10,000 soldiers keep stabbing it night and day in 8 hour shifts.

    To elaborate

The Positive Energy Plane has no surface and is akin to the Plane of Air with its wide-open nature. However, every bit of this plane glows brightly with innate power. This power is dangerous to mortal forms, which are not made to handle it. Despite the beneficial effects of the plane, it is one of the most hostile of the Inner Planes. An unprotected character on this plane swells with power as positive energy is forced upon her. Then, because her mortal frame is unable to contain that power, she is immolated, like a mote of dust caught at the edge of a supernova. Visits to the Positive Energy Plane are brief, and even then travelers must be heavily protected.

    Heal it to death

A disease is an abnormal condition affecting the body of an organism. It is often construed to be a medical condition associated with specific symptoms and signs.[1][2] It may be caused by external factors, such as infectious disease, or it may be caused by internal dysfunctions, such as autoimmune diseases. In humans, "disease" is often used more broadly to refer to any condition that causes pain, dysfunction, distress, social problems, and/or death to the person afflicted, or similar problems for those in contact with the person. In this broader sense, it sometimes includes injuries, disabilities, disorders, syndromes, infections, isolated symptoms, deviant behaviors, and atypical variations of structure and function, while in other contexts and for other purposes these may be considered distinguishable categories. Diseases usually affect people not only physically, but also emotionally, as contracting and living with many diseases can alter one's perspective on life, and their personality.
Death due to disease is called death by natural causes. There are four main types of disease: pathogenic disease, deficiency disease, hereditary disease, and physiological disease.
Diseases can also be classified as communicable and non-communicable disease.

There is no easy way to kill a Tarrasque.
    But here's the simplest way.
    You get yourself ethereal.
You then glide inside the Tarrasque's lungs.
Make sure you've got Fly cast on you, as well as some means to breathe water.
You should be able to fit, though not comfortably there.
Now. Open a portal to the elemental plane of water.
The Tarrasque will drown. This does not kill it, but it cannot move, it's body creates no energy to propel it.
You could also Create Water in it's lungs, if you wanted.
Or teleport it into the Plane of Water.

Can we work the angle of killing it from the inside some more? As it has been pointed out, lots of the immunitites stem from its scales, so an internal attack would have some advantages. Summoning some kind of easily killed and tasty looking animal, booby trapping it with all kinds of explosive death, then sending it towards the Tarrasque? Even if you don't kill it outright, as long as it's exploded enough that it can't escape and regenerate elsewhere you can finish the job yourselves, seeing as the vulnerable insides are now very much on the outside. At that point, it turns into a bit of a case of "how do you kill Wolverine?", making sure there isn't anything left to regenerate from. Creative abuse of magic items would be the key here, methinks. Perhaps time to use the portable hole / bag of holding black hole trick.

Didn't read my post properly. I know black hole arrows already got mentioned, I was intentionally referring back to them. My proposition was that although they are unsuitable for destroying the best outright, they'd be a good means for disposing of the last little bits of Tarrasque you couldn't burn/smash/explode after blowing it up from the inside, to make sure there is nothing for it to regenerate from. The key is in the wording - the Tarrasque REGENERATES, not REAPPEARS. As long as there isn't anything left, you're all good.

    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)21:12 No.15762147
Actually. that would just make it regenerate somewhere else.
But we could do this, a combination of my idea and the arrow thing:
    Become ethereal.
Collapse the arrow where the Tarrasque's heart is.
Do this a couple of times, so that it collapses for a bit.
While this is going on, somebody drowns it by creating water in its lungs. It is unconscious and can't rip out its lungs, so we've pretty much permanently dealt with it.

    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)21:14 No.15762170
    Here is the thing:
    "Kill" bypasses the problem.
The "Tarrasque" is a "concept of a thing", if the "concept of a Tarrasque" is killed, there is no Tarrasque to regenerate itself.
Killing as it is usually reffered to is to merely destroy the physical entity of something until it can't regenrate back. It is something entirely different from making something "Cease to exist".

The same item with the "Kill" property could be used to destroy planes, planets, concepts, and a lot more. If the GM is nice.

Lube someone up with that alchemical grease, then have them carry dozens of vials of alchemists glue, be swallowed or appear in the tarrasques throat, glue shut, and either climb out or teleport out.

It collapses, proceed to hack it to shit, have a clan of dwarves mine it forever to create tarrasque armour and weapons of the highest quality.

In the original story the barbarian raged at the end and grafted tarrasque skin onto himself gaining regeneration and natural armour to boot along with getting a breastplate that reflected magic/SR/etc.

SImiliar to drowning it, but all you need is a dumb barbarian and some magical items the cheapest of which would be the teleportation ring or other such emergency device.

Dude, stopping (technically not killing, but stopping indefinitely) the Tarrasque is actually pretty easy in PF -- >>15761107 hit the nail on the head.

If you can determine its true name, you can get it with no save, no SR using the trigger item version. Get some chump peasant to walk up to the Tarrasque bearing the gem on a silk pillow. The Tarrasque noms the peasant, along with the gem. The gem touches its flesh, and bam -- Tarrasque in a gem.

But even without its true name, you can still do it without much difficulty at all. A PF sorcerer with the Destined Bloodline can automatically succeed on a check to beat spell resistance once per day, and the Tarrasque only has a Will save bonus of 12. A level 20 sorcerer is perfectly capable of casting Trap the Soul with a save DC of 32 (18 base DC + 12 Cha bonus + 2 Greater Spell Focus). This means you have a 95% chance of ending the Tarrasque with a single spell -- it absolutely must roll a nat 20 on the Will save. Get a second Destined Bloodline sorcerer ready with a Wish in case it succeeds the first save to boost your odds to 99.75% (or have Wish yourself, and take your chances with the SR).

this is somewhat campain specific, but since it was mentioned that this was pathfinder I'll throw this out there.
The Tarrasque is a demigod in his own right, the spawn of Rovagug, the 'destroyer of all reality' entity cliche thing, around being nothing before everybody else came and ruined his tea party of nothing by being something. Contained within a giant pit that may lead into a demiplane in and of itself, hes let out several spawn over the thousands of years yes been down there.

All of these attempts to physically remove the matter of its being wouldn't work, as it could regenerate regardless of not physically existing. Its partly in as a fluff mechanic of 'you just can't kill it', and an annoying attempt to make people try and be unable -> RP in ways of inventively killing it that Dm's would have to allow.
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)22:32 No.15762965
You wouldn't be able to increase its int (as some posts had mentioned) so that you could manipulate it, nor could you diplomacy it as it stands due to its int. But you can intimidate it, at one hell of a check, if you spend one minute trash talking it (as per the baseline time required to use intimidate). It has an ungodly DC for that intimidate, not to mention the perception it has and scent, with its move. you'd have to be living for 10 rounds, which means not directly fighting it and stealthing around its feet. If it gets within 5 ft of you its scent pinpoints you, and it has a really big move + you have to stay in range, so you're doing readied actions to walk away with talking actions to intimidate it. provided you live long enough and make all the intimidate check(s), it will treat you friendly for up to an hour. You then have to convince it that it doesn't threaten it to reduce its spell resistance and let it be willing to let you teleport it (since teleport spells require it to be willing) with you somewhere. Ultimate magic's 9th lvl spell of interplanitary teleport, either drop it off to some other planet or throw it into a star (either in space near it or directly into it). if you actually go with it be sure to be immune to fire and have a necklace of adaptation before you refuge back. the gravity of the star would pull it in and continually damage it, it wouldn't quite 'die' but it would take enough dmg to counteract the continuous regeneration to effectively hold it for several billion years till the star dies, if it doesnt give it enough matter to last forever since it continually regenerates and gets more matter for the star to use for fuel ( that goes into the physics of the internal part of the star...another board another disussion).

alternatively you could have some fun before you teleport into space or 'gifting' him to another planet, and teleport it onto any BBEG that you want to kill, it isnt friendly to everybody for taht 10-60 minutes! just be sure to leave before time's up.

or if you don't want to deal with all those skill checks and your DM will let it work (considering how colossal the creature is) core rule book's teleportation circle. No save, but it will get spell resistance, which is relatively easy to pump penetration for a good wizard so...just teleport him that way. that's a ten minute prep time spell though

i suppose if you abuse the rules in spell creation and whatnot you could 'make a spell' that kills it but the combined might of all of the deities of the pathfinder pantheon couldn't kill it, so good luck with your little mage having more power than all of them together.

though I will note that the previous spawns of Rovagug HAVE died in the past, been killed in some ways or another. One of them was large enough of a beetle that a city uses its molted shell as a dome, and other various redic' excessive stuff about them was written. I havn't read the campain book that discusses how they killed Xotani "The Firebleeder", but it was killed and buried. The campain setting might have its grave keeping it dead but again, i haven't read that yet. TLDR its up to the GM how your able to kill it, since the rules as intended were that it can't die via basically any means (though i guess tahts what this thread is about; ideas to throw at your DM or possibly use to kill it).
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)22:37 No.15763040
    >if it doesnt give it enough matter to last forever since it continually regenerates and gets more matter for the star to use for fuel

Won't that make the star die faster though?
I mean, stars start out fusing stuff like helium and hydrogen, but as they run out of that they get bigger and start fusing heavier stuff, like iron. This plan would effectively be pumping the star full of of heavy matter at a constant rate.

So could the GM label that as an Evil act for poisoning the sun?
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)22:42 No.15763106
so very very doing that for the next BBEG
would killing the sun effectively kill any sun gods? i'd love to off pelor.
and that raises another question, if i put out the sun and kill the evil god pelor, would that be considered a good act?
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)22:47 No.15763148
Just killing the sun wouldn't kill Pelor.
Sorry, but Pelor is a cover for Zarus.
If you can figure out were Zarus's main hideout is on the celestial planes, you can take out two 'gods' in one strike.

would be an odd thing to learn its 'true name', if that applies to it at all. Its not an outsider, questionably a mortal, though it might have a soul or considered a native outsider based on its origin (not included or listed in its profile). its only a dc 25 knowledge check to get a devil's true name, though a DM might say that the tarrasque's name wouldn't be in a specific tome, or that its true name is tarrasque and it doesn't that ppl say it aloud because its immune to the mind affecting aspect of it? gets kinda fuzzy there, since its name isn't written down anywhere and is just in its soul, provided its a mortal.

this would go towards it having a soul like a normal mortal, in which case soul trap would work. Its only classified as a magical beast, despite its origins so it Should, but most liekly you'd be without its true name due to existance/obtainability of research material for true names hidden within souls.

If your DM rolls his dice out in front for important saves, you can stock up a queue of 8th lvl fate domain clerics ready to use their reroll ability on the save.
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)22:53 No.15763229
But exists already a tarrasque mod.
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)22:58 No.15763276
it wouldnt' really poison the sun, it would give it different materials that would be continually disintigrated as soon as they are 'regenerated'. i dont remember the specifics of if it would atomize the material -> breaking it up into basic components (more energy released from breaking the bonds) -> burning the basic components again OR if it would just burn the tarrasque flesh for its atomic reactions. Guess it would depend on what exactly the tarrasque is made out of. But as per >>15763106 yes i guess you could (as the GM) say that after putting the tarrasque into your own personal demiplane (creation of demiplane, then create gate above tarrasque and antigravity him up into it, he wouldnt fit but could get sucked into etc) he went batshit evil and decided that he was too good to live on earth and poisoned the sun. (though maybe unkown to most hes keeping the sun alive, etc etc, now you have an UNDEAD STAR idea goinng around, have fun with the potential shitfest about that. Que undead baby gods floating by and bringing piles of hoards of undead across the planes with them to visit the undead star. horray for good intentions yielding bad shit happening
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)22:59 No.15763288
The idea is still hilarious though.
I mean sure, there are asteroids a thousand times larger than the Tarrasque that regularly hit the sun, but still, a constantly magically regenerating source of stuff that almost is a match for adamantium sounds like it be pretty deadly for a luminescent being.

    Heavy metal poisoning much?
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)23:02 No.15763319
Besides, how often do you get the chance to say:
    >So could the GM label that as an Evil act for poisoning the sun?
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)23:04 No.15763330
again, it wouldnt really 'poison it' so much as add matter to it. it would get puffed out in a very short time, but the matter/time would be relevent on a very very large scale in terms of time. hugely insignificant to the size of the star, even with how godzilla size it is, maaaaybe changing the emition of the star on a smale scale like a permanent sunspot where it is regenerating. depending on how the pathfinder planet orbits the sun, it could lead to an equater of eternal sunspot -> radiation poisoning for people on the planet. Desecrating the planet and pissing off all the druids ever, except maybe dessert ones?, and their gods of nature would probably put you up for a plotline of chaotic good or chaotic neutral deities/factions vs LG/LN factions.

yes, that came to my mind, though originally i had thought of robert herberts 'dune'. the spice worms being direct correlaries for the next spawns of Rovagug or w/e. Alternatively, you could do a shit ton of things like fallout + resident evil apoc (bad movie reference i know, but visual image thinking)
    >> Anonymous 07/30/11(Sat)23:16 No.15763434
I have an image in my head.
    Two opposing demiplanes.
One of Salty, the other of Sweet.
Not sure Where to go next with this.
