You are the collective mind of a Bug Colony.
Your Mission: Survival and Proliferation of your Species. Using d20's and popular vote you will either make or break the Hive. Your colony begins with a Queen Bug, 5 Worker Bugs, 1 Hive Chamber, 1 Queens Chamber, 1 Surface Tunnel.
    >> GM !!rfSQtaw22xn 07/19/11(Tue)09:00 No.15633886

Spawning an overseer Bug will be difficult and take far longer than if you had more resources or alternate bug strains. Additionally it is ineffective to spawn overseer bugs with so few workers.

Expanding the Hive means digging, which means workers will have to be designated, the number of workers proportionate to the size of the project (unless you want slow construction)
Tunnels are free but take time depending on soil conditions. Purposed Chambers cost Resource as the workers are consuming more than they normally do.

Some Purposeful Chambers you can constuct
Soilder Hatchery -2pts: Speeds Solider Growth rate
    Hidden Surface Tunnel-1pts
Worker Hatchery-2pts: Speeds Worker Growth Rate
Fungus Plant-3pts+Fungus: Long-Lasting Resource gathering point for supplemental income or when mineral veins run dry.

Hidden Surface Tunnel:Can be used as emergency exit or for stealthy troop movement.
Fungus Plant: Requires found and harvested fungi, but provides quick nourishment and if managed properly can be farmed for long periods of time.
Breeding Chambers: Required for creating and modifying advanced strains of bug.

That sounds good. Also evolving venom/acid would be cool for warriors. If we could evolve some sort of secretion for our workers that would help with infrastructure (a la spider's web) I think that would be just dandy. Another idea is finding another species to live symbiotically with, perhaps.

Lets use the stick gatherers to dig down further for minerals. What can we do with the wood?

I vote we prepare floodgates to redirect the water, in case of rain, into a prepared chamber so we have an internal water source and arent endangered to drown

also, workers should remain on the ground, as should grubs (if we ever research them), but we should look into wings for our scouts and warriors, making them fast search and destroy units from which not even flying beetles can get away.

camouflage for our workers would be nice, and maybe an internal posion that makes them unattractive for possible other scavangers (like birds)

since we have all workers with webbing, would it be possible for the queen to be able to communicate with those workers using the webbing

i.e. the workers spin a giant cocoon web around the queen like a nerve center and the queen can send and receive information through the web to any bug that is in contact with the webbing

    >> Anonymous 07/19/11(Tue)17:17 No.15637766
I once read about a special species of termite that actually grew a caste that was used as nothing but a living water container.

No shit, those bugs literally were more-or-less transparent sacs of skin. They dropped those guys off close to a water source, let them fill up to 1000% of their original size, then used workers to carry them home again. The bugs just didn't want to lose any water to vaporization because they were living in the desert. and carryng singular drops would make them vanish in seconds. When they were back home, they just released some of the water each time someone was squeezing them.

I have two questions: can we have this sort of bug? (If not, at least not directly, can we modify them out of grubs or repurpose grubs to pull double-duty as containers and defenders?)
And the second: How much worth in Resource does water have?

Let's send the scouts and soldiers out to lay some web traps in the tall grass, then lure the beetles into them, where the soldiers will be waiting to kill them.

What can we do with the iron?
Let's have 10 workers gather minerals, 10 grab the iron, and 5 investigate the pit.

This and we need to have our all-purpose scouts
    - scout a wider area
    - spy on those beetles to check if we can trap them somewhere.
    >> Will 07/19/11(Tue)17:33 No.15637960
Deploy scouts to do some recon on the beetles.

Deploy 5 workers to find new mineral deposits

Deploy 3 soldiers to find Fungus.

Build second repository to increase population capacity.

Send the scouts up to scout the ??? areas from above, and see what those are! Might find something up there!

Work on entrance, send scouts up to spy on the beetles, then send a few down south to scout out that one ??? area, and lay web traps around the entrance, and lure the beetles there! What could go wrong?

I dunno how to archive properly but if we did it would be nice to have until the campaign is over then I could clear it from the archive and make space for other important threads.

Yes you can make water balloon bugs if you like, or pay 1pts and 1 stone for a reservoir inside the Hive. Water is valuable for a couple of things including supplemental nourishment.

    +1pts from harvest
    -1pts opening collapsed tunnel

3pts remain. Mineral deposits at 15%
    >> Will 07/19/11(Tue)17:41 No.15638053

Also, do we still have the beetle limb? We should study it, and add it to grubs so they can move faster. Also how much would a ranged attack cost for Soldiers? Or perhaps Venom?
    >> Anonymous 07/19/11(Tue)17:41 No.15638054

we should not build the beetle traps right near our door that could lead to catastrophe or reveal our position. I think they should be in the tall grass if i understand where the beetles are correctly.
    >> Will 07/19/11(Tue)17:43 No.15638078
Fool! our soldiers couldn't kill 1 beetle by themselves, let alone a group!

Gather intelligence for now, and build our resources, and by extension our army.

    Just as planned.
Send the scouts out to do recon, but split them in half and send ten to scout the northern ??? area!

As a suggestion, can't we evolve hibernation to save food? Put our soldiers sleeping and they won't use our food, and then we can support more workers.

Same for workers in times of war.

Why not use the wood and webs to build a redberry greenhouse?

The webs will probably let enough light through to feed the berries.

We would have to heavily guard those, as they would attract all kinds of hungry things, especially if we plant more of them in one point.
And no matter what we do, if deer or other large mammals come and eat them, we will be screwed.
And this will need a lot of time.
We have to eat in the meantime.

Investigation of the Pit yields the discovery of an empty stone pit, the walls of which are Incredibly difficult to dig into, even for the best Worker. The pit is 3 bug stories deep and fairly wide.

Sending a Soldier up the newly opened Surface tunnel (Tunnel 2 we will call it) they discover 'The Crevice' Map next post

Scout bugs to fly east, to lay web traps while remaining 4 Soldiers foot-slog to trap sites.

5 Workers to excavate new shaft in search of minerals

10 to harvest minerals, 10 to harvest iron

+1pts, +3 Iron, Iron vein now depleted

    4pts 3 wood 4 stone 6 Iron

I see 4 possible uses for the pit 1 garbage dump 2 as a fungus farm pit 3 a well 4 we could fortify it and move the queen there as it is likely much more secure we could then pace some stores there too.
