    Let's play a game, /tg/.

    You like Warhammer 40,000, right?

You like other things too, right?

Here's how it goes: Think of a story -- a game, book, TV show, anything -- and imagine what it would be like if it were converted into the 40k setting. Then, tell us about it. Other users will try to guess what story you're referencing and/or add their own if they feel like it.

A Rogue Trader's vessel is severely damaged and crash lands on an uncharted feral world with incredibly deadly native lifeforms; so deadly, in fact, that a local orkoid infestation has been kept in check and hasn't progressed beyond the gretchin stage. With his crew lost, and only a limited supply of oxygen on his person, the Trader rallies the gretchin beneath him and enlists their help to repair his ship and escape, hoping to return with more ships to explore the planet's many ruins and plunder their treasures.

Okay, let's see how you do against this.

An ancient necron tomb, spoken of in local prophecies as a force that would destroy the world, begins to awaken once more. Their programming degraded, they know only that they must march across the world in search of ~something~ at the bidding of their unseen C'tan masters. They break through the millenia-old wall built to contain them and destroy everything in their path, in spite of the humans' constant efforts to contain them. Before too long, the planetary governor is so desperate that she trades her soul and the world to the powers of Chaos in exchange for sorcerous power and daemonic allies, in the hope that this is enough to finally end the necron threat before they destroy everything.

I'm thinking it would work somewhat like fallout 3 or oblivion.
.... With lasers. And necrons being the main enemies; hence that way, factions might not all be purging each other while the greater threat of a common enemy is around. I'm thinking Tau, Eldar and Humans for the races. Orcs would be hostile npcs; chaos would be hostile/friendly depending on alignment/choices (IE, you roll a human psyker and he murders children for lulz and gets possesed; chaos gods digging his shizzle) and Dark Eldar would prolly show up as hostile mobs.
I'm thinking; Psyker, Marksman and Assassin for basic classes.

During th final days of the war of Vietus 4, three guarsman were ordered to rob the capital of all it's wealth. However, the man who ordered them was killed and noone else can verify their story. They would be tried and found guilty, and susequently executed the day after, but they escape from the facility where they were being held and went underground in New New Los Angeles. They then established themselves as Soldiers of Fortune. Their leader is Arch-militant John "Hannibal" Smith who is a master of disguises and has a penchant for danger. B.A. Baracas has a penchant for striking anyone who rubs him the wrong way and is so afraid to travel through the warp that they have to drug to get him on a ship and is also a tech-savant, and Templeton "Face Man" Peck, who is so good looking that he can charm a necron into killing iteslf. Amy Allen, an inquisitor, who hired them, convinced them to let her join them. H.M. Murdock flew dropships for them when they were in Vietus 5, but was not with them when they robbed the capital. He is so shell shocked by the war that he is confined to a psychiatric hospital, and Face has to come up with all sorts of excuses to get him released so that he could fly for them. Initially, they were being hunted down by Inquisitor Lynch, whose facility they broke out of, he would later be replaced by Inquisitor Decker, who is more aggressive. A few years later, Decker would be replaced by Grand Inquisitor Fullbright. Eventually the team would be caught by a man named Stockwell, who runs a covert spy network, and who promised them a pardon if they join his team and carry out some (dangerous) missions.

After fending off a psychic assassin, whom the apprentice frees from his daemon's control, he learns from the inquisitor that he is one of many psykers who have awakened recently, due to the sudden reemergence from the warp of an ancient and powerful Slaaneshi sorcerer who was once banished by the inquisitor's own mentor at the cost of his life. Together, they set off across their planet, experiencing a variety of strange local cultures while fending off constant attacks from the sorcerer's servants, before they reach his lair and battle him face-to-face.

An ancient out of the way Imperial planet is forgotten about, warp travel to it sealed up by a nearby warpstorm. Intergalactic politics heat up, the other races have more pressing things to deal with. End up tucked into a footnote in history, and eventually the distant warp storm dissipates: the warp current making travel difficult to that sector fades away. Or does it?

in the mean time, the planet survives on its own, some keeping their faith in the emprah, some not. One faction in this world eventually finds a curious device buried in their planet: A Teleportarium, with strange, alien script buried in the sand along with the device. A manual, in lingo from the dark age of technology, or parhaps something else entirely?

It takes several years for the politial and military branches of the planet to figure out how the device works, but, curious about their heritage and intrigued by the prospect of meeting new and interesting people with strange technology to trade, a galaxy to explore and research, a decision is made:

For the first time in centuries, using the teleportarium, brave souls will set foot beyond the borders of their world, explore, investigate, and report back their findings. Armed only with their wits, common sense, and whatever scraps of advanced technology their world still possess, these teams will go forth to bravely go where everyone else has probably gone before, but with fresh eyes.

The problem is, this world may be sticking its noses into the politics of other races, and the races of the 40k universe do not like meddlers...
Especially when they've confused a webway gate for a teleportarium.

After using her powers to first rid herself of potential rivals, she then turns her nefarious gifts upon the hapless children in her care. After contacting a sleeper cultist within the Hive, she transports the children to the Warp, where they are shown sights which finally drive their minds insane. Their father begins to suspect trouble and decides to take the children to work with him in a desperate attempt to shield them, but all he succeeds in doing is playing right into the pysker's hands by taking the corruption exactly where she wants it to be. The insane children almost immediately cause havok in the Hive's primary bank, leading to civilian rioting on the streets and mass hysteria. Unable to shield his mind, the father too loses his grip on sanity and returns to the bank to finish what his children started. His words twist the Chief Financial Administrator's mind beyond reason, and soon the man lies dead amongst the ashes of his monetary empire.

As the psyker flies off into the sky, her mission complete, her cultist agent on the ground co-ordinates a massive public spectacle where hive citizens fly kites upon which are scrawled blasphemous symbols of Chaos. This is the signal to the orbiting Chaos warships that the Hive's capacity to resist has been broken, and as the psyker disappears into the clouds, the faint outlines of dropships can be seen in the distance.

Oops, were we not supposed to tell the setting? Um.

An exiled Arch-Militant on a dead, abandoned Imperial world has to fight his way through a landscape slowly being corrupted by Chaos. As he chases a sorcerer of Tzeentch (or possibly Tzeentch himself) he encounters several low-level, deranged or addicted Imperial citizens who are kidnapped through sorcerous Warp portals. If they ever wish to see their planets again they must follow this murder machine to the tower he seeks.

Bonus points if the Dark Tower is actually a crashed Rogue Trader vessel whose Geller Field is the only thing keeping the entire planet from being consumed by the Warp. Or is that too over the top?
