I know right? It's like they say, "bacon makes everything better".
Roast Beef is AWESOME, not gonna disagree with you there, but it's bacons sheer versatility that makes it so great. Roast beef is useless in a lot of sandwiches but the boost bacon gives is applicable to damn near anything, save jelly because jelly bonuses negate bacon bonuses.

Personally, though, I'm a fan of Dessert classes. I gotta sweet tooth, and i'm not afraid to admit it.

Philly Steak and Cheese with caramelized onions here. Complete with a great kaiser roll I got out of one of the splat books. I find it works great, the provolone cheese adds a great smokey flavor and the onions round out the savory with sweet. I wasn't trying to min-max at all, but now my group is complaining that my build is broken.

I don't see what they're complaining about, my build isn't good for any sort of light meal or sweet snack, but our GM really loves to use big-manly-satiating-meal modules all the fucking time, so if I'm dominating the game, it's really because he's not giving the other players a chance.

I always run with a roast beef build myself. You don't need to pile on condiments and seasonings to make it viable. Just make sure you take pickles and SOME kind of cheese or it's not going to be very interesting to run. My current build's got onions and barbeque sauce on an onion roll. (I know, I know, onion rolls enter splatbook territory but it's just for flavor, it's not like I'm doing that multi-grain crap.)

People keep telling me I need to multiclass into some sort of complex club sandwich abomination (one player suggested ketchup. KETCHUP. IN A ROAST BEEF BUILD.) but fuck that. Anyone who says roast beef isn't playable just doesn't have the meat or pickles high enough.

Eh, they're alright. Easier to pick up but you might as well just play a straight-up sandwich instead.

Burritos are fine as long as you have a Chef with some common sense. It doesn't mean a Chef has to accept ANY character with it regardless of their choice of fillings or the game's mealtime.

We had someone playing a chorizo/egg burrito at one point- that was awesome. Girl didn't need to apply hot sauce even once.

Higher risk, higher rewards!

Nitrates give penalties to Reputation and Healthy. You can get around that by going organic, but the the organic penalties to Value are horrific. That's why you only see "purists" playing organic, unless the GM is runs a lot of Hippies (not Stoners, Stoners have vulnerabilities to Value).

Im thinking of running a foot-long sub on my next high-cost picnic.

    Here's my setup:
    -Toasted Italian bread
    -Salami with pepperoni slices
-lettuce, tomato, raw onion, sweet peppers
-Honey mustard sauce to increase my
    "deliciousness (SU)"crit from x2 to x3

You know what I'm tired of? My KM giving all his NPCs Palate Feats. Seriously, I get that kids are going to have "Rudimentary Palate" and High Society Ballgoers are going to have "Refined Palate", but he said this was going to be a sandwich bar game. Buffet goers generally don't have either, at least not over half of them. I'm this close to quitting every time half the encounter is spent re-equipping because we're either going too fancy or too simple.

It's all about synergies. Raw onions are a little bit more universal, and mostly have a higher crunchiness stat. Fried onions have higher bonuses with other meals, add more to the Smell stat, but also have a higher Time cost.
With some obscure splatbooks you can also change almost any of the above points, with stuff like uber-crunchy fried onions or raw onions with a Smell higher than that of Limburger cheese
    >> Anonymous 03/29/11(Tue)17:56 No.14409081
Thanks, I've noticed the same thing, I really like the build though, maybe I should add a third one?

Second, Slaw on the sandwich is pretty awesome I've only ever seen it with BBQ stuff does it not go well with other stuff?

Bullshit. It's on the sidebar of page 53 in the basic Player's Menu. It's not meant to be a Player Sandwich though, it's really designed for the KM to use as a NPS. That said it's a legitimate, if usually retarded, build.
    >> Awake !!5frcmwAIRBT 03/29/11(Tue)17:57 No.14409093
Oh man, got a weird build that's been working pretty well for me. Beef hash, pepperjack, and mustard on a toasted grain bun.

Shit's delicious, but the cold penalties are horrendous, and it's a build that's mostly viable in Northern districts. On the plus side, it combos well with the vast majority of shit, and because of regional variations on beef hash, I can tweak for health or sheer flavor if I need to. Hoping it's not too OP or cheesy of a build, but it's been serving me well.

Well, nobody objected, so here's a good story for you: One of our players brought a salad to the meal.

That's right. A salad. I'm not talking about a meatless sandwich like that brie, sauteed onion, tomato, and shredded lettuce with honey mustard on dark rye build we talked about last time- an honest to goodness fucking SALAD. Even worse, she decided she'd make it spinach-based. And I'm not talking about a sandwich or even a CALZONE with a salad side either- the salad was her main course. She just wanted to try something a little different.

Well, we figure she's still new, she'll learn her mistake pretty early and we can just have her re-roll. Besides, if she wants to be a side-dish class all the more power to the rest of us, right?

So the first course of the meal comes up. I'm playing my roast beef build and go for the first bite, but it's no good; my sauce wasn't the right fucking kind to tantalize the foe.(Makes me all the more glad we switched to 4th edition rules.)

So instead of hiding behind us, the salad goes in for the next bite. We all think, well, this will be over quickly.

    >exotic ingredients feats
    >balsamic vinaigrette
    >blue cheese (Gorgonzola)

We all thought that shit was worthless but oh my god did she prove us wrong. And she wasn't a minmaxer either; she "Just thought it looked like a fun combination."

She's been welcome at every meal since.

Peanut Butter between two toasted waffles here. I know I can get more buffs by taking more fillers, but something about the romantic simplicity of the plain PB just speaks to me.

I've got this dark oat bread, dijon mustard, smoked turkey roll and jarlsberg build I'm thinking of taking to tomorrow's session... thoughts? Should I splurge on a couple of slices of tomato, or will that just kill the whole synergy I've got going?

Lye is overpowered though. You can make a lye roll lutefisk sandwich and win everything.

Anyone else ever realize how you can take a pair of sandwiches if you minimize both? I was playing a pair, one cheese sandwich and one ham. The bonus to overcoming picky eaters is worth the lowered taste on more precise palates
