    Previous Thread:

For saving the worker, you get a new skill.

Next, pick two from the following list. I'll take the first combination that gets 3 votes.

    Athletics [Basic]
    Firearms [Basic]
    Vehicles [Basic]
(Feel free to suggest new Basic skills)
    Any Basic Skill [Specialty]

You can upgrade a [Basic] skill with a [Specialty] in that skill, as per the following examples.

    + Mechanics [Automotive]
    + First Aid [Lacerations]
    + Athletics [Climbing]
    + Dinosaur Knowledge [Specific Species]

[Basic] skills are not required to attempt actions (i.e. you can still drive a car under normal circumstances without Vehicles [Basic]), but it will make more difficult actions easier to attempt or lessen penalties or failures. [Specialty] skills further this.

Additional [Basic] and [Specialty] skills will be largely chosen by the players, and will be acquired as you progress through the story or gain experience in an area.

    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)17:49 No.14077947

WHY would we want to know about the stegos? Let's pick an animal we're likely to run into frequently.

Also, we're a mechanic. I say upgrade that skill. It'd be hand to be able to repair our car if it gets damaged.

I agree about firearms, though, we're a lousy shot.

He's right, you did say pick two. But I agree, if it's just one, then Firearms [Basic]
    >> Fireaxe 02/28/11(Mon)17:52 No.14077979
Sorry, you said 2 in your first post.

    1) Radio it in that the Raptor is tranqed and still alive. Ask if any extra darts would be helpful to make sure it stays down until a DRT is out there.

    2) Anyways, talk to the guy through the wall. Say you just used the crossbow on the Raptor and put a few tranq darts into its neck. Assure its down since you saw a single tranq take out a that larger dino from the day before at the turbine.

    3) Try and calm him down and find out what happened.

    Done for now.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)17:54 No.14078001

I agree with this, but I say put an extra dart in the raptor to be safe, and don't even ask about that. Just ASSUME that's a good idea. Dispatch might not like it, but I doubt the DRT guys will fault us.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)17:57 No.14078031

I agree with all of this, but I also say that while we call out to the guy, we go shut the door to the cargo area. We only SAW three raptors enter the place on the security footage, we don't know for sure that's all that's in here.
    >> Emergency Chair Warmer 02/28/11(Mon)18:03 No.14078076
    Firearms [Basic] it is.

You shoot an extra dart into the twitching raptor, ensuring it's not going to be able to wake up anytime soon. The thing smells like blood and dead meat, it's slightly nauseating.

"Oh God, is it dead?! What about Frank?! He alright?!"
    >> Fireaxe 02/28/11(Mon)18:03 No.14078078

    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)18:07 No.14078113

I dunno. It might be dead. I electrocuted it and pumped it full of tranqs. It's either dead, or it'll be sleeping for a while. You wanna finish it off, I sure won't report you.

I... Don't think Frank made it. Come on out man, it'll be okay. We should have a dino reclamation team and a medic up here before long.

No, because then management gets pissed. We want this thing out but alive. Tell him to calm down. If they find out he killed the thing, he'll be in trouble. Not just a pay cut, but these guys are crazy and mean business. But if we play along, then we can get things under control.

Damnit. See, we shouldnt of told him the other guy was dead yet. Check inside the crack in the door to see if he's alive/shot something else.

We should secure the rest of the place if the guy happens to be dead. Then work on getting that door open to get he's shotgun.

If he's alive, get him out here if he's stable. If not, leave the guy, call dispatch about the situation.

    >No, because then management gets pissed.

Fuck management. They care more about the lives of these damn lizards then they do about us. Remember Perkins?

Look, like it or not management is in charge, and the last time we really pissed them off we had to retcon to get out of it. I don't like them either, and you're right that they're nucking futs. And if we get off this island I'll be the first to say that we should tell the world about this and get as much proof of this as we can before we leave, to get those assholes fired and hopefully get some actual regulations put in place, or better yet have cloned dinosaur zoos banned.

But until then, we need their help so it'd be good to keep on their happy list.

Fair enough, but I suspect the DRTs wouldn't report us for killing a raptor. Those guys are working grunts getting shafted by management too, and they don't love the lizards any more than we do. Probably less, actually. So long as we keep our mouths shut to Dispatch, we should be okay.

But it's a moot point now. I don't think the guy in there is gonna be shooting any dinos soon.

Also, why the fuck are you idiots trying to get into the supply room? If you want a shotgun that badly, there's another one back at the weapons locker!

Let's just make sure that all other entrances to the Desalination Plant are secure, then fish the bodies of the raptor and of Frank out of the water tank, then get to work on changing the filter.

    >> Emergency Chair Warmer 02/28/11(Mon)20:04 No.14079511

Actually, you remember the other worker grabbing a shotgun too. The only thing the locker had in it was ammo and batteries for the taserbow.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:04 No.14079518
Because a "storage room" implies that there might be useful stuff stashed away in there.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:07 No.14079536
Then it would be easier to see where the other shotgun is, such as near the water tank where Frank's body is floating in.

Anyway, are there any long poles or hooks that we can use to move the bodies in the water tank with? Cables we can use to help pull the raptor body out with?
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:07 No.14079538
Can we try using the forklift to pry open the door, or use it to move some of those crates/bags near it so we can use it as stepping stone?
    >> Emergency Chair Warmer 02/28/11(Mon)20:10 No.14079572

You figure that the forklift could easily batter the door down or move bags/boxes.

    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:16 No.14079623
Alright, are the wires on the taser-bow sturdy, or thin and fragile?
If sturdy, we remove the batteries and fire bolts at the raptor body in the tank and at Frank's corpse to attempt to drag them to where we can haul them up out of the tank.
If they're flimsy, we tie the more sturdy wire we have to the bolts and do as above.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:16 No.14079627
This is not MacGyver. Seriously. enough with the damn storage room, let's use the wire to get hold of the bodies and drag them out of the water and then put in new filters.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:17 No.14079638
The storage room may very well have spare filters in it and coming in from this side is likely more safe than walking, blindly, through a plant that very likely has at least a few more dinosaurs walking around in it.

Not to mention that tranquilizer doesn't last forever, and if we spend too long wandering around, that raptor is going to come to, and come traipsing after us.

There also might be rope or cable in the storage room to dredge the corpses out of the water with.

It's a good idea to at least check and if there's nothing in there of use, we've not wasted as much time as we would wandering around in this likely dangerous building.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:20 No.14079663
Who the fuck said anything about walking around? A: we have more traque darts for the dino. 2, we're not saying to go blindly walk around, we're saying to get the corpses out of the tank, and C, I can't think of anything to say but I wanted an excuse to use another letter.
    >> Emergency Chair Warmer 02/28/11(Mon)20:26 No.14079728
So are we trying to get into the store room or fishing the bodies out?
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:27 No.14079736
1 vote for fishing out the bodies.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:27 No.14079738
You didn't rebut the need for a filter, which we've been told to replace and don't have, currently. So, we're either going to have to wander around the building looking for one, or break into the storage room and hope there's one in there. The storage room is safer.

To the mention of walking around, someone mentioned there maybe being another entrance to the storage room from the other side. We'd have to walk through the building to find it.

There's also the chance of there being other things in the storage room that could help us with our current problems, like rope or cable to drag the corpses out.

    You're reaching. Or just can't, won't, or didn't read.

    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:29 No.14079762
Well, we need the bodies out, but that only solves one problem. Do we have filters to swap out the old ones with?

    +1 body dredging vote
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:31 No.14079788
The important question is what are we going to fish the bodies out WITH?

The only thing we've got right now is the taserbow, and I doubt that the wire has the strength to pull out a 200+ pound human and Raptor corpse. Plus, we'd risk breaking a valuable weapon.

I mean, isn't the point of having a storage room is to have a place to store the goddamn parts and equipment needed to keep the facility running?

    +1 for getting into storage
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:32 No.14079800
Not the person you were responding to, but another wondering why we're so concerned with the supply room.

I concede the need for a replacement filter, but ask why there wouldn't be a quick-change spare near the filters currently in use.
Besides, if the building is secured already, walking around inside of it won't be dangerous. If the building is not secured, then why would we want to create even more noise by breaking down the supply room door, before securing the building.
And if there's another dino already in here, then it won't matter; the sounds of this fight would have already attracted it, and it would be on it's way to the cargo room.

Actually, it was said earlier by Chair warmer that the forklift has wire.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:42 No.14079910
Because of safety concerns. If it falls into the tank or gets damaged from not being out of the way in a storage area it gets ruined. Comes down to, "we can't/won't afford to replace these more often than we have to, keep them somewhere where they won't get broken."

Both good points. We don't know whether it's actually secured, do we? Nothing's shown up yet, but you never know, it might be far enough away to not have heard the scuffle, or might be stalled or lost.

It's definitely not a good situation, but we have to do something. The filter is the more pressing concern, since we don't know where one will come from or if there will be any near where they get put in. But, to get started with that, we need to get the bodies out, which is why I voted for that

I think it's likely that there might be filters or a net or something in the storage room. We should see about getting in if we can. And if something comes for us at least then we'll have a shotgun in addition to our tranq.

Alright, you decide to ignore the storage room for now and head up to the catwalk to the water tanks. You notice that the tank next to the bloody one has a black smudge in it. The two bodies in the bloddy tank are floating just in front of the catwalk, they smell very bad.

How do you plan on getting the bodies out?
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)20:57 No.14080088
Swim over to the bodies and tie the wire form the forklift around them. The waters already bloody, our own bodies won't be adding to the stuff. Then use forklift to pull the bodies out. If I've been reading things right, the doors are locked so I suggest we not bother with decency and leave our clothes before the swim, so that we can have them dry when we get out.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)21:00 No.14080119
    Check the black smudge.

As for getting the bodies out, if they're close enough to the catwalk to reach, bring them in closer, tie one end of strong wire to an appendage, pass the wire around the handrail as an improvised pulley, and pull them up onto the catwalk.

If they're too far to reach, tie a strong wire to a bolt on the taserbow, remove the battery to prevent accidental electrocution, shoot a body and reel it in using the strong cable.

    Wire lasso.

Make a loop, get loop over body, fish body to edge of tank, try and lift body.

If the body is too heavy to lift, let's break into the store room and look for rope or something.

Easiest way to get into a locked door with a forklift is to drive the forklift so you've got one tine resting gently against the bolt side of the door frame, and angled to push frame away from door.

Then you back up a foot and ram the door frame.

Frame gets pushed far enough to let the door swing free despite bolt.

Easy to fix again later too.

Will the shotgun be able to penetrate very well though? I mean it is slug-loaded ammo, but still.

    It's bloody right?

Wash it in the water tanks. No one can tell since the water is already rusty.

I think you're grossly underestimating how much 00 or 0 buck will penetrate, I've had plated 00 buck out of 3in shells go through pigs at 20yd in the past.

Its not uncommon for people to use 12ga on bears. .44 mag out of a pistol really isn't better.

Still, couldn't hurt to have something we can quick-draw in case of an ambush. Let's get everything and do our fucking job.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)23:44 No.14082356
Ok ok, they're both good at killing things.....lets just keep them both. Now stop staring at that shit and do something. Something like changing the filters, then we can come back for our plunder

12 gauge magnum slugs will pierce through an engine block.

Will our hero successfully install the water filters?
Will Dispatch continue to be amoral assholes?
Will the raptors complete their plan for world domination?

I'm out for the night guys, got school. Someone archive?
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)23:47 No.14082389
    So, we're agreed then?
Tell dispatch about the three raptors (though they should already know about them, we told them about the 2 dead ones last session, they told us to capture the 3rd one as they send a DRT to the Plant).
Grab the guns and all ammo, put them and the letter back in the duffel bag.
Wash the chainmail, and maybe put it on?
Finally do our job and replace the filter.

Okay, it's been archived....and sorry, I didn't see Pt 3 archived, I thought it wasn't due to the posting problems from last night.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)23:52 No.14082449
note for tomorrow: unlock front door so DRT guys can get in
    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)23:58 No.14082533
No, we have them radio they're at the front door before we open it.
Who knows if there's still raptors around; better to not risk it.
