    I was wondering something

What if you kill a number of trolls, cut them apart and then stitch the troll parts together

Would they regenerate as separate trolls, separate pissed off stitched together trolls or as OMNITROLL
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)21:59 No.13831887
each troll head would absorb the body parts it's attached to and they'd be separate trolls
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:00 No.13831899
Can trolls graft on extra parts?

    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:00 No.13831909
Oh my. This has piqued my curiosity. I'd say it turns into an omnitroll, if only for the AWESOME it would generate.
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:00 No.13831912
What is the troll HEADS where cut in half as well? Straight down the middle.

what if you took the brains out of the heads and stitched them together?

some kind of super intelligent 20 armed megatroll?

They merge into one giant troll with an HD equal to the sum of it's parts.

    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:05 No.13831974
I actually tried this with some paramecium in high school science...the experiment was to cut them in half and then - tada - they eventually grow into two.

I managed to cut mine's "head" right down the middle. Sadly it just grew back together rather than make a two-headed paramecium. :(
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:06 No.13831983
To bad Troll science equates to managing to not poop on themselves.
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:06 No.13831995
Brains are too fragile and messing with them would screw up the regeneration process, making it more unpredictable.

If you mashed them all into one brain, somehow, then maybe it'd be a omnitroll with extreme intelligence.
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:10 No.13832053
technically it would but it would be a living regenerating flesh golem

also what if you managed to graft them all together, would "killing" 1 head set in motion the regeneration process for the entire body thus making the thing impossible to kill unless all heads were killed at the same time?

obviously it'd take lots of time but then again trolls are common enough to SCIENCE a bit on them
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:15 No.13832125
and if brain merging worked maybe it could work on other regenerating creatures to

say grafting a troll brain onto the tarrasque and then giving it troll parts all over (hypothetically)

grafting enough brains you might even be able to create a tarrasque with enough intelligence to be able to cast spells with its hundreds of troll arms all over its body
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:19 No.13832185
I wouldn't say the regeneration process is bound to the brain. It's probably cell-based, any cell being able to regenerate.
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)22:21 No.13832218
this could make for some VERY interesting constructs

sphere's of annihilation don't go away just because they killed something.

how? He just has a bag of holding with a bunch of spheres of annihilation surrounding another bag of holding now. Doesn't hurt us.

Well, we have to assume that trolls have DNA, since it's safe to assume they share a common ancestry with humans and a variety of other fantasy creatures. And I think it's reasonable to assume that their regeneration functions in a similar manner to "ordinary" cell repair functions, with the exceptions that it occurs much more quickly (greatly enhanced metabolism on demand, perhaps? worth investigating), can repair catastrophic damage such as brain trauma or amputation, and is inhibited by strong acids and fire.

Given these axioms, it is reasonable to assume that trolls create new cells with their old cells' DNA as they replicate. As a result, new tissue would be recognized as foreign by old tissue, which could cause all sorts of problems with the immune system. It could be possible for trolls of similar blood type to undergo a blood transfusion or organ transplantation, but piling tissue from one troll onto another so that they "fuse" together is unlikely to work unless the trolls share DNA (identical twins, for instance).

    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)23:14 No.13832882
Chimerism doesn't have to cause problems for the immune system.
Look at all the sucessful organ transplants.
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)23:16 No.13832906
however with various magical healing abilities available it might be possible to heal the bodies together in such a way they accept the foreign tissue

wait a second if you could regenerate parts to the body

then what would happen if some smartass mage polymorphed into a troll, grafted parts to his body and waited for the spell to be over

would they stop functioning, fall off, depolymorph back with him or would he suddenly have permanent working troll parts?

In 3.5 (which i am assuming this takes place in since it has rules for this sort of shit) the mage would simply take a PRC from Lords of madness and graft the limbs on with out wasting spells.
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)23:29 No.13833054
this version would be largely unlimited and perhaps even possible with a whole lot of bodyparts that shouldn't be possible otherwise

like say grafting an extra brain somewhere or a few more lungs spread all over

all he'd need is a reliable yet crazy assistant
    >> Anonymous 02/08/11(Tue)23:34 No.13833107
How many hitpoints would an omnitroll have ? All of the added hit points combined or fractions based on how much of the original body was used ?

Because it could technicly, go and kill more troll by itself and graft them on. Thereby adding more power and intelligence to itself.
