    Part 1 archived at

You awake to a stinging pain in your side. As you move to see what caused it, you feel a small hard object hit you in the leg.
Soon you see that a small green humanoid is throwing rocks at you. It is remarkably accurate, and throws them with more strength than you think it should be able to. Ouroboros is clearly awake, but for some reason has made no move to attack the creature, and is moving around as if looking for something.

Try to see if there is some way i can keep the cave without having to kill Douggle. Perhaps make him a slave. or at least a servant. it would be nice not having to leave the cave for trivial things such as errands.

in fact, offer him protection in return for the cave and being my servant. imply i mean protection from myself

    >> Lizard Quest GM 01/02/11(Sun)22:18 No.13378642
Two votes for this, so I'm gonna take it over running or just watching.

As the demon-dogs lunge at Douggle, you smash into the one closest to you, digging your claws into its side and ripping apart. For good measure, you grab its neck with your teeth and try to rip its head off. For a moment, you don't seem to be having any effect, but then you feel your tail touch your side and new strength flows into you.
Muscles burning with barely contained power, you pull your claws away from each other and yank your head back, effortlessly ripping the demon-dog into three pieces. The pieces fade into a thick black fog that obscures your vision.
In the few seconds you were distracted with the one demon-dog, the other ran after Douggle, who is now hiding in a crevasse while his attacker slowly grinds away the stone wall of the cave to get at Douggle.

As you are about to attack the second demon-dog, it seems to realize that its partner is gone. It turns to face you and looks like it is about to lunge when suddenly it lets out an unearthly shriek and dissolves.
From the crevasse, you see a bright red light, but it fades as soon as the fog from the demon-dog dissipates.

Ugh, goddamn bullshit took longer than expected. Anyway, I'm back, so let's carry on, shall we?

Several hours later, you head back to Henry's shop. It is clearly open. You knock on the door gently with a large claw, careful not to damage it.
After a minute or so, Henry comes out.
"Ah, it's you! I was hoping you'd come by to speak with me today, I had some ideas last night that I..."
He trails off when he sees Douggle.
"You!" he yells, face turning purple with rage. He fumbles in his pocket and pulls out a metal rod, which he points at Douggle.
Speaking a few short words, he activates the wand, sending a stream of blue fire directly at Douggle, who screams and falls off your neck in a frantic attempt to dodge the fire.

You lower your head so you are staring Henry in the eyes. He shrinks back a little, and you ask him why he attacked Douggle.
"That- that thing stole a powerful magical artifact from me! I've been trying for a week to get it back, I've conjured all sorts of hunting spells to kill it and get the item back, but it somehow survives everything I throw at it! Then again, it would be able to overcome even something as powerful as a devil-dog, wouldn't it, if it had YOU helping it!"
He raises his wand and points it at you, but as he begins to speak the words of power, a flash of light from your tail puts him to sleep. Ouroboros whispers in your ear, "He will awake in half an hour. We should carry him away from this place and find out what the hell he was talking about, and why he shot fire at you."
Your tail twitches to indicate the gathering crowd, "Tell them that Henry had an accident with a spell and that you're taking him away to heal him. Move. Now!"

    >> Lizard Quest GM 01/03/11(Mon)00:41 No.13380192
You grab Henry gently with one claw and sling him over your neck. Douggle grabs onto your leg and clambers up as well as you make your way to the cave. As you pass the townspeople, you tell them about the tragic accident, and explain that you should hopefully be able to help Henry recover completely, but only if you can move quickly.

You arrive at the cave and Ouroboros casts a binding spell on Henry. He cannot move (beyond the movement required to speak and breathe), and he cannot access his magic.
"He will awaken any moment now," Ouroboros says. "Any questions we ask him while he is in a half-awake state will be more likely to get honest answers."

    What do you ask first?

"What is Douggle? What did he steal? Where did you learn to summon the shadowdogs?"

whats goin on here cheif? what was stolen from you?

"what else do you use that metal rod for?" jk jk
but really "what is going on? why are you trying to kill douggle?

ask: can you teach me how to dougie?
    >> Lizard Quest GM 01/03/11(Mon)00:51 No.13380272
"Douggle? You mean that little beast? It's a filthy goblin, and it stole my talisman of void-walking! I was on the verge of a breakthrough that would have allowed me to harness the powers of the dragons of old, and that talisman would have protected me while I tested my theory. It takes years to make one, not to mention it requires magic completely different from that which I wield. I had to buy it from some death cult on the northern continent, and it took months to track them down. I don't even know that there's any of the talismans left in the world, or even people who know how to make them!"
    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)00:53 No.13380284
We ask our tail what he makes of this.
    >> tyedoris 01/03/11(Mon)00:55 No.13380297
"well friend, our douggle here isnt too smart, and it seems embarrassing that you werent able to simply take it back from him. even more embarrassing that you werent able to kill such a simple minded creature. so... perhaps there is a way we could prevent such an honourable and well trusted wizard such as yourself from being disgraced in front of the village?"

(at this point i dont really know why we should blackmail him, it just seems like a good idea)
    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)00:56 No.13380300

What does a talisman of void-walking do?
Why are you researching the dragons? They're extinct, aren't they?

    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)00:58 No.13380331

BAD IDEA. Ouroboros warned us that only a powerful sorceror can summon the shadowdogs. We don't want to threaten a powerful sorceror.
    >> Lizard Quest GM 01/03/11(Mon)00:58 No.13380332
"The talisman would protect me from being changed by the void. I would have to open a portal to the void on my own, but if I could do that I could truly learn the craft of magic, rather than just fiddling with the meager spells the dragons left us with.
    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)01:02 No.13380372
Ask him how are dragon robot thing is doing.
    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)01:02 No.13380373

I smell bullshit on the air. Either Ouroboros isn't telling us the whole story, or Henry dearest isn't telling us the whole truth.

Ask the King what the hell is going on?
    >> Lizard Quest GM 01/03/11(Mon)01:08 No.13380440
"It makes sense so far," Ouroboros says. "After the humans chased us out of this world, they realized that we were the only beings who had ever truly mastered the magical crafts. Some of them learned a few tricks from us, which they used to aid them in their hunt, but once we were gong they found that we hadn't really written much down. Almost all of the magic that humans now know, they learned from the scribblings of dragons creating unstable formulas while researching new magics. I don't think I would be wildly wrong if I were to say that I am the only being in this world who truly understands magic at all.
    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)01:10 No.13380470

Then why leave at all, King Tail?

If your mastery was so complete, why are the dragons all dead, and why are you back now?
    >> Lizard Quest GM 01/03/11(Mon)01:13 No.13380508
"The few spells they learned correctly from us, they used well. And there are minerals that dampen the effects of magic.
It was a war of many centuries, but they drove us off mostly through sheer superior numbers. We simply cannot breed as fast as humans or their kin. One thousand amateur sorcerers are more than a match for one master, especially if the master has been struck by a thousand magic-dampening spears."
    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)01:16 No.13380548

    Alright, then.

Tell him we'll help him on his quest to restore the dragons.

    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)01:19 No.13380576

convince douggle to give the amulet back. have ouroboros unbind henry.

    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)01:29 No.13380707

    Well, fuck.

Looks like we need a new one. Ask Henry if he'd like to go find some crazy cultists.
    >> Lizard Quest GM 01/03/11(Mon)01:30 No.13380724
"I- You what? That amulet! That was the only one left! No one knows how to make them!"
    >> Anonymous 01/03/11(Mon)01:32 No.13380743

    Does Ouroboros know how?
    >> Lizard Quest GM 01/03/11(Mon)01:42 No.13380848
"Of course I know how, but there's no way I'm going to help this human worm gain access to the power that is rightfully mine! I can only access a fraction of it in my current state, but as soon as we find an artificer and build my new body, I can take back my rightful place as supreme ruler and complete my miss- And rule."
Your tail flicks and a bolt of green lightning consumes Henry. He dies before he can make a sound.
"Come," Ouroboros says. "We need to leave this town now, and make our way to a larger city. News has already spread, so they should know of your good deeds, but if we don't leave soon we won't get there before word of your involvement in this mage's death spreads."

And on that note, I'm going to have to call it a night. I'll archive this, and continue Lizard Quest at a later date. Probably at around 8:00 PM EST (GMT -5)
