We cannot measure how long the battle lasted. It is counted not in centuries or millennia, nor in lives lost, saved or spent, but in cycles and histories and eternities expended. When the battle was nearing it's finality it was measured in casualties, on both sides. First Q, J, and Z fell. Then X, K, and V. But to do so 9 and 7 were lost. Then there came a great victory and G, Y, P, W, and B all fell. In the counter attack 8, 6 died. The end came quickly after that, with a bloody melee lasting merely a century, striking down all but 0, 1, the first 2 Paladins, and E, and I the most powerfull and cunning of the Liches
The final confrontation streached al sides to their breaking points. I was destroyed first, drained of his power by E in a weak moment to insure E's survial. E then focussed all his efforts on 0, hammering his hated foe with stolen power until his weakness and failure was assured. But then 1 struck. He had built up his power and held himself for this moment, as it had been 1 who had counseled 0 with the origional plan of secret growth, and it was he who had perfected the art of holding power and realing it at the perfect moment. In that instance E was obliterated.
